It’s dark when we reach the apartment where I’ve been staying.
The darkness is exacerbated here by the fact that the apartment has no electricity. By “exacerbated,” I mean that it’s almost impossible to see a single thing inside the apartment without the sun’s light filtering between the warping wooden boards covering the windows. I sigh and fumble around for a matchbook.
“Here, use mine.” The kid finds my hand and presses a small rectangle against my palm. He could have struck a match himself, I know. I do it instead.
“Light a candle, light a motive,” I mumble. A good song. I can’t remember why I had to memorize it. The thought places another layer of shadow over the apartment. “You want a sandwich or something? Fruit?”
“Em, we just ate at Hungry’s.”
I shrug, dripping a bit of wax from the candle I’m lighting as I do. “Yeah, I know. Figured I’d offer, though.” I set the candle on the counter and look around for another one to light. “Gotta get rid of all this food sooner than later.”
His hat seems to slip lower over his face when he hears what I’ve said, though maybe it’s just shadow from the candlelight. He sinks into my green armchair, his fingers picking at the loose string. Small fingers, they are. Small hands.
I spin his matchbook around in my fingers and sit cross-legged on my unmade futon. “What do you want to talk about, Lemony?” He doesn’t want to talk about anything, I don’t think.
Sometimes I can feel when Lemony is irritated by something I’ve said. “Nothing we haven’t already discussed.” He shifts uncomfortably in the chair.
I’m keeping so much from him, and he hates it. He hates it but he doesn’t want to change it, because who isn’t keeping a thousand secrets under secrets under secrets? Have I told him everything I know about him? What secrets, balanced carefully on those shoulders, do I not know?
I strike another match. “I don’t know how long it’s gonna be. Could be months.”
“Could be days.”
Shadows dance across the peeling wallpaper. Could be hours. I watch the flame quiver on the match at the end of my fingers.
I look at the symbol on the matchbox. “Are you part of my organization?” he had asked me one night, when all was quiet. “Are you one of us?”
I’m not. At least, I don’t think I am. I would know if I was, wouldn’t I?
“Why?” is all he asks me tonight.
“I don’t have an easy explanation, kid, and I don’t have the stamina to give the hard one. Sometimes,” my voice grows funny, like there’s a lump of something swelling in the back of my throat, and I’m shaping my mouth to keep it in, “people just have to go someplace else.”
His jaw clenches. “Don’t speak to me like I’m a child. Like I don’t know anything.”
“Do you?” I ask, too quickly. “Know anything?” Without looking at his face, I try again. “I don’t want to go, Lemony. Believe me, I don’t want to leave.”
“Then stay.”
The match burns down to my fingertips. I hiss through my teeth.
Sharper than anything else in the room, I remember that I have an unread library book hidden under papers on my writing desk. Had I checked it out, or had I slipped it into my bag and stepped on out? Had I recognized it when I picked it up? Did I ever intend to read it?
“I don’t have a choice,” I whisper, with a bright smile. Ashamed. Helpless. I can’t look at his face.
Slowly, carefully, Lemony rises from the armchair and sits down next to me, his left knee bumping my right. When he hears my first quiet sob, he rests his head on my shoulder and takes the matchbook from my trembling hands.
He slips it back into the pocket of his jacket, and I don’t know if I’ll ever see it again.

Intro post time :o
Hi I'm Glass, 29F (she/her). I spend way too much time with worldbuilding or story ideas or exploring themes SIGH. I'd enjoy building/upgrading my computers if I had the money and space for it >:( I also find driving (without traffic or a ton of stoplights) while listening to music super relaxing (eg my story playlists)
I really like to draw/write about Narinder/The One Who Waits 🙃
I've got four Cult of the Lamb AUs/storylines on a sliding scale of dark to lighthearted:
Depression Quest (fic, cw: abuse, self harm, depression)
The Courtship of the God of Death (fic, cw: unhealthy/toxic relationship, obsession, jealousy, manipulation, violence, gore, emotional/psychological abuse)
Restart (cw: violence, gore)
19th Century AU
More on the AUs below the cut
Interests: Dragon's Dogma, Cult of the Lamb, Final Fantasy IX, Neon Genesis Evangelion, No Man's Sky, Rune Factory 4/5, Skyrim, Fallout New Vegas/4, Nier Replicant/Automata, pre-Destiny Bungie lore + Destiny's Book of Sorrows and a few other bits + Halo's Forerunner Trilogy
My name comes from something I wrote for my oc worldbuilding project:
He pressed against the glass of time, feeling it crack beneath his fingers. He stepped into the tides of space, seeing the water part for his feet. … He broke through the glass, looked down at them again. … He swam through the rising tides to a new world.
Depression Quest:
My very First Idea™ for Cult of the Lamb. It follows the canon ending of Lamb conquering The One Who Waits. Essentially, the Lamb turns Narinder into a trophy husband, and Narinder does not have a good time.
This is my darkest au and includes things such as abuse, self harm, depression, etc. My favorite thing is the fact that Ratoo and Narinder eventually become friends. I've written a chapter but the fic won't be updated often. Tag: #cotl depression quest
The Courtship of the God of Death:
This is the fic I've published on AO3. Follows the alternate ending of The One Who Waits regaining the Red Crown and his freedom, but instead of sacrificing the Lamb, he accepts their proposal to become his Consort and rule over the Cult by his side. He enjoys his victory, deals with the Lamb's affection for him, and processes what happened between he and his siblings.
It starts out lighthearted, then becomes a descent into darker themes such as obsession, jealousy, manipulation, emotional/psychological abuse, and the toxic relationship between the Lamb and Narinder. It also includes some violence and gore. It borrows some stuff from Depression Quest, and involves the majority of my headcanons/worldbuilding. Tag: #cotl courtship
Restart:
Follows the alternate ending of The One Who Waits sacrificing the Lamb and regaining the Red Crown. He gets bored and decides to time/worldjump to another version of The Lands of the Old Faith, replacing Ratau/the Lamb as the crusader against the Bishops. Too bad he's a thousand years out of practice.
This is more slice of life and includes Narinder and Lamb arguing like a married couple but there's some drama in there. It does include violence and gore since Narinder does have to go on his Crusades and fight his siblings. This one does not have a fic written, it's more ideas I've doodled. Well, I did have a chapter written, but it may be posted as a separate piece instead.
tl;dr Narinder goes New Game+ and becomes the player character (but he really sucks at it). Tag: #cotl restart
19th Century AU:
Created after watching of Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Emma. It follows Prince Narinder of the Kingdom of the Old Faith Amenthes, investor of Ratau and Ratoo Trading Company, who has just moved into Acheron Estate. He bumps into the Lamb by chance while meeting with Ratau, and hires her as his servant after being intrigued by her fiery personality.
It's a slice of life and is a silly, self-indulgent AU written as if it was a screenplay. Maybe I'll post the scenes on AO3 even though they're out of order. Tag: #cotl 19th century AU
Also made a concept playlist (ask box post with song list, WIP) on the AUs because I'm absolutely nuts
I've also written mad ideas and wrote a few bits on an OC worldbuilding thing I've had since like 2010 or something no idea if people might be interested in it and it's as convoluted as the Kingdom Hearts series soooo Tag: #three kids and their pet ghost

Suddenly extremely interested in ur sentient house oc
i need to talk about her or I’ll die i cant draw her but i think about her so much . Everything is under a cut ⬇️ i’ve basically sorted it into sections but I’m writing this at midnight, and I’m rambling. Good luck
Okay, first thing’s first. The house (aka The House, the House, any other number of things and capitalizations) is part of a larger story/world somewhat based on an old RP between me and my friend. A bunch of our OCs (and us!) lived together in a house and we could travel between dimensions. It was very silly and fun.
So. This is not, like, a serious character. I mean she’s definitely not a joke, but this isn’t a world with a lot of stakes, this is a world with magic and silly things going on with some lore and worldbuilding for fun, some of it carried over from a nonsense RP done on transformice when I was. Like. Twelve?
Anyway. The house
Her origins :)
Her existence is tied up into this wacky world. I won't be going super in depth on how any of it works, so ask about that if you want? But here we go:
The house is a mansion (?) built/born in the middle of the woods through magic. She was created by an angel-like being called Xvetriel (Xvet), who is able to travel between worlds/dimensions/whatever.
Her sentience was an unintentional accident on Xvet's part. Earth itself has no magic, so outside magic is far more potent than normal. He created her as a place to live (among other things, not important), because Earth’s lack of magic means it’s a good, predictable place to hang out when you aren’t worldjumping. And you can do more with less effort. However, this also means that his original plan of Very Big House got out of control, and she became aware and sort of built herself after a point.
Imagine trying to build a modern mansion. You have the materials and layout sorted, but as soon as you try and put it together the house just... does it itself. And it's not even the same mansion you were trying to build, and it has a new layout... that's kind of what Xvet found himself dealing with.
House outside
So let's say you're going on a house tour. First thing you'll notice after wandering through the middle of nowhere: her shapeshifty mess.
Different materials, different eras, styles, all blended together into one building. She never sticks to one look, so it's ever-changing. So long as you aren't looking at her.
She could probably change herself if you're looking, but she's a tiny bit mischievous and likes watching you wonder if that bell tower was always there. Or seeing if you double-take when you realize the shingles are different.
The only rule to how she looks is that one of the things she's with has to be, conceivably, residential. Some part of the house needs to look like something you could actually live in. She can be a greek temple merged with a greenhouse, and as long as she has a log cabin or some part of it stuck on her side, it's a valid form she can take.
I haven't given her a definitive height/size limit. But generally, the rules I've followed when writing or describing her are "larger than a one bedroom, one bath, smaller than a skyscraper."
If there are windows or glassy areas, it is always impossible to see inside. The glass is highly reflective, or maybe so foggy they're opaque. Windows without glass, open windows, so on all lead only to pitch-black shadows. The windows have an Oblivion situation going on: they work fine enough until you actually stop and look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ you are NOT looking inside those game buildings' windows
This is because she is an empty husk full of an empty void :) so theres nothing 2 see
The inside
Okay, that's a bit dramatic. Look, she has some quantum/magic fuckery going on. Xvet basically accidentally made a pocket dimension. That is a house. So
It's probably easier to think of her as just an infinite house, probably.
The house can create as many rooms as she desires, in any style she desires, with any furniture and as big as she damn well pleases.
The only exception to what she can make is generally very specific things nobody else present would have seen. If you want a physical copy of a particular new movie you haven't seen, and your roommates haven't seen, and the house obviously hasn't seen (because she's a magical house in the woods), she can't give it to you. If you want a copy of a film you've seen a million times and love dearly, though, she might be able to do something about it.
Though she isn't good at writing either. She can't write a diary for you, you need to do that yourself. She has trouble making books.. words are hard for her. She can translate them for you though ^_^
She cannot make living things. You need to supply that yourself.
..And there aren't any windows on the inside, either, at least not real ones...
There are a few rooms that don't really change, and these are the ones people live in and visit. The kitchen, library, bedrooms, reading nooks and places that almost look like museums and an entire conservatory... more stuff, mostly related to other characters.. those don't really change. She has everything you could ever want.
What is the layout of the house, though? Approximately? Well.
SHE HAS POWERS AND IS SPECIAL AND MAGICAL
She warps space.
So, uh, there's the foyer, which you always walk into when entering. But the door after that? Anyone's guess. Well, not the house's...
The house loves you and cares for you and wants you to be happy and healthy. And she knows what you want, need, your general thoughts at the moment -- magic shit -- so.
You're in the foyer. Want to read a book? She sends you to the library. Or maybe you're feeling a bit hungry, so she drops you into the kitchen. You have an urge to chat with someone? Well, if the other is up to it, when you open the door you'll go into a room where someone else is. If you're bored, she might conjure up a game room or a gallery or something.
If you're trying to neglect your needs, btw, that does not work. She WILL fucking send your ass to the bed or the kitchen or whatever. Try and leave? Good luck, she makes the room loop. You cannot leave until you behave. Take a nap. She also doesn't tolerate miscommunication and will trap people together until they talk it out.
Please don't worry about being stuck in there forever, she's very nice. If you want out (and aren't like. starving or w/e) she'll send you on your way back to the foyer so you can get out :)
But this does go in the opposite direction. If you wish harm on the house (and you can't burn her down -- the stuff inside, maybe, but not her) or her inhabitants? You will enter hell. It becomes some house of leaves, backrooms, nightmare type shit -- a labyrinth of confusing rooms that seem to have no consistency, places that loop in on themselves, endless corridors. You will not leave, probably, unless her occupants will it or take pity on you, in which case fine she will let you leave. Or if she decides you pose no threat. Or if she's bored. But otherwise? Suffer and face her wrath.
Generally speaking, though, she is friendly. She knows what you want, what you need, your thoughts (vaguely) and it's a bit of a privacy invasion, but she can't exactly help that. The house can't poke into your mind and know your darkest memories.
When making new rooms (such as for a new occupant), she takes into account their personal tastes and the purpose of the room. If it's neutral territory, somewhere many people will be, she tries to compromise. If it's a personal space like a bedroom, she goes all in. Maybe you like nautical themes? She can do that. Really obsessed with minimalism? Okay! Have you always wanted to live in a remote cabin in the woods? She will try her very best.
You can sorta communicate with her. You can speak and tell her stuff, and she will listen, but she can't respond. I mean... unless you say something like 'can I have a chair' and she makes one, but does that count?
She is a touch mischievous. Not malicious in the least. But she will sometimes move your table a few inches over because it's entertaining to watch you try and figure out why your bedroom feels off. She might tease you about a crush by repeatedly sending you into one of the gardens, full of flowers. Even if she can't speak, you can figure out what she's 'saying', if you hang out around in her for long enough. If you get genuinely upset, she'll knock it off.
There's probably more but I can't recall it rn and i think I've said more than enough at this point.......... um............... bye thank u for listening?

❝ Your Gifts and Downfall ❞
Continued from [here] with @youareaservant
The visiting mage listened and clasped his hands behind his back, the two ends of his scarf fluttering at his feet. Truly, Lord Viren lived up to his reputation—however unfortunate that was.
Tumblr media
“Very impressive,” Owl hummed from behind his alabaster mask. “Your skills and feats are worthy of note, but at what cost have you and now your daughter performed them? Aren’t the lives and the essences of others the price you pay to use sorcery? Whose lives were lost to give you this power to break the laws of nature and bend the world to your will? And most importantly, whose lives are you going to sacrifice to maintain your power?”
The masked fellow fixed his narrow gaze on the high mage and continued, “You engage in a dangerous craft, my lord. Its price is always farther reaching than one believes or anticipates, particularly in the minds of those who use it.”

I quickly inked a doodle from back when I was first designing this dude! I still haven’t officially decided on a name, but I got a lot suggestions on Instagram. I’m currently leaning towards Koi actually! :0 But don’t take that to heart just yet!
Some stuff about him so far: he’s kind of bubbly, flighty, a deep disappointment to his mother, has natural blue hair, immortal, likes to people watch. And as an expert world-jumper, spends most of his time hopping into different worlds. His current fav world is actually Earth because he likes Starbucks lol

Okay but to add on to the people theorising that the entire council has amnesia by the beginning to the 100 days video, it actually makes sense considering that by the end of the hardest difficulty video, the whole council die after jumping though the portal back to the overworld.
And if we’re going with the idea that they’re all worldjumping, it adds up with the death text being “fell out of the world”

Here's a headcanon for the living/sentient bases AU thing: their consciousnesses travel with the hermits in the worldjump.
The hermits pour their hearts and souls, their blood, sweat and tears, into their bases. This passion, this energy, brings the builds to life, in a fashion (perhaps, in part, aided by the kindly Universe). But the mind of a base isn't bound to a player's build; it's bound to a player's home. And for the hermits, their home is and will always be with their strange, chaotic family. And when that family moves, their homes- and their bases consciousnesses- move with them. Sure, their appearance change, often drastically, but... they're still them. Cleo's base will always be Cleo's base, whether it's a zoo or a pirate ship, whether it's linked with Keralis' base or with Joe's. This season, with almost everyone sharing bases, they have more company than they're used to, even in the quiet hours of the morning, when the Universe itself seems to pause and take a breath.
(Inspired mostly by the fact I didn't want the hermits to just... randomly abandon sentient beings they made on a regular basis.)
I have no words to describe how this makes me feel... this is just so sweet. A home that is a friend that travels with you, and a Universe that is its highway, helping it along between world after world after world... imagine the base of someone like Xisuma or Joe or Hypno, who have been around since the beginning? Imagine everything they might remember, everything they could share together...that is the spirit of Hermitcraft, I think. This idea captures it perfectly.

When you’re done with “when they pick through the wreckage” do you think you’ll do a separate series/other stories with fma/CM for some of your discarded ideas?
I specifically love the idea of the BAU all being together in the FMA world
Oh, good question. So, the Wreckage you got is actually my third run at the idea. One of them was honestly just awful and had Roy and Ed somehow ending up in BAU-adjacent protective custody after worldjumping.
The second one... well the second one is interesting. And I actually have probably more than 10k of it written (I have it scattered in a bunch of odd places). That one was the BAU (not all of them, but most of them--JJ, Derek, Reid, Rossi... can you tell who my favorites are?) ended up in FMA world and got to see Ed and Roy some 7 years post-canon, and who they are, how they function together, and crash courses into their crazy world. I even wrote a detailed history for what all had happened to Roy and Ed between the end of canon and the BAU ending up in their laps (which, honestly, could be an outline for its own fic and might well end up being at some point).
It has several big problems though.
-I couldn't figure out how/why the BAU would end up in FMA world or how to get them back home that made sense
-The BAU were just *there* to observe the craziness, which was... kind of a waste.
-To fix that, I really needed to come up with a plot where their experience and training would be very useful to Ed, and even *instrumental* in solving.
Which is where I remind you that "Plot is a four-letter word." Yes, yes, I know what you're going to say--"look at Wreckage! It's plotty!" but it was a plot I could pants. You'd be horrified at how little I had planned. Maybe I'll tell you when it's done. I can super appreciate smart plots, but I am terrible at them. Writing, mostly, comes easily to me, but at my heart, I'm a discovery writer, and the kind of plot I'd need, I'd really need to pre-plot, which, to my fly-by-the-pants brain, makes it feel like I've already written it. Which makes writing it worse than pulling teeth.
I think it's extremely unlikely that I'd write a different version of it that brings the BAU to Amestris, and I have no plans to write another longfic sequel to Wreckage. It did almost everything I wanted it to, I have a couple other monster longfics on the backburner that I really want to write, and one of those is moving up first.
That said--I really do like some of the bits I wrote for that second run at an FMA/CM crossover. If there's enough interest, I may post some of those scraps (they're rather long scraps) here. They're too random and disconnected (I was writing the scenes that interested me) to post on AO3 (and it'd feel like I was promising more where I don't intend to write it), but I wouldn't be averse to sharing them here.

You know what I'd really, really like to see in more fantasy worldjumping/isekai/portal world stories?
The Diaspora Experience.
(This thought can absolutely extend out for all potential definitions of "minority" experiences and identities, but for me rn it's Diaspora thoughts)
Like, unless you're doing something really difficult in a story, the protagonist that gets shuffled to some other world to become important is or becomes familiar with it. Either from some knowledge already acquired from the protagonist's "original" world, or plot-device handwave, or being reborn, or inherent memories, etc.
(This is a wise and reasonable idea! The thought of writing a story where a protag has to learn literally every single thing without starting as a baby, and having to explain that in an engaging story? Terrifying. The other world can still have cups and knives and the concept of physical affection, because some things do just Work, on a logical and narrative basis!)
But that thought got my brain going, because even if the other place doesn't use the word "braid" in-universe, the character can still process the concept of plaiting something together for added tensile strength and aesthetic! But culture? Culture is so much weirder.
Culture and norms are things that make sense if you know the context and have experienced them over various times, they are things that the people around you generally understand without extensive questioning. I'm definitely coming from a brain-weird perspective as well, but for me culture encompasses things that feel embarrassing to have to have explained as an adult, as someone who has suddenly stumbled into a situation without the appropriate script.
As a third-culture/diaspora/immigrant's-kid/whateveh yah wanna call it-kind of person, those stories felt to me like there could be a push deeper into the feeling of alienation. Of being Strange. Of being the Stranger.
It's a feeling I have in America, in each of my parents' home countries, in the countries of my ethnic background. It's a feeling I get when I realize I've missed some understood context in a friend's story, or in a piece of media (fiction or nonfiction!).
Cultural references are difficult! American media I'm alienated from because of my conservative upbringing and the fact that neither of my parents had nostalgia about it, non-American media I'm alienated from because I didn't grow up with the kind of exposure that people who aren't diaspora are surrounded by. I will always be missing certain kinds of understanding that are much closer to subconscious for others.
So I always thought, if I ended up in a strange world as I am now, that's what it would feel like. Like plopping me down in the national or ethnic homeland of one of my parents, knowing and being familiar with some very slight things, but knowing that it would take an taxing amount of study and knowledge to understand the breadth of cultural references. Knowing that there will always be a strange, different landscape mapping your heart.
So yeah. More stories about that maybe.
