Ring-necked Pheasant Norfolk Woodland Walk..
flickr
Ring-necked Pheasant Norfolk Woodland Walk.. by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: Ring-necked Pheasant Phasianus colchicus..Because they live in tall vegetation and old fields, Ring-necked Pheasants can be hard to see even in places where they’re numerous. Keep an eye out for them running between patches of cover as you travel through agricultural areas—particularly along dirt roads where the birds often forage in weedy areas. Winter is a good time to look for Ring-necked Pheasants, when vegetation is at a minimum, crops have been harvested, and some areas have a snowy backdrop for the birds to stand out against. In spring and summer, listen and watch for males performing their calling and wing-flapping display in open areas

Some nice brittlegills (fungi of genus Russula) from this year, mostly from Celtic rainforests of North Wales. Those last 2 are the 1st green-cracking brittlegills I've seen irl 💚

Fungi and lichens...Two Toned Pholiota by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: Magical and mistrusted. Toadstools and mushrooms are associated with ancient taboos, dung, death and decomposition. But trees rely on fungi and we're just starting to understand how close this relationship is: great networks that link and support trees and woodland life. They come in dazzling shapes, colours and sizes; even working with other species to produce different organisms.

Nestled within the cozy hollow of a tree, a family of mushrooms basks in the subtle light. It's like a secret garden, uncovered in the heart of the woods.

Ring-necked Pheasant Sussex
flickr
Ring-necked Pheasant Sussex by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: The non-native Pheasant is easily the most common bird roaming the UK countryside..The male Pheasant is a handsome long-tailed bird with metallic iridescent plumage. His courtship display, an explosive double pitched bark and vigorous vibrating of wings, is intended to woo multiple brown-coloured females. Sharp spurs on the back of male's legs are used to fight-off would be competitors. The birds prefer fields and farmlands with brushy cover, though they also inhabit woodland undergrowth and some wetlands. Females nest in fields or in border habitat and lay a dozen or more eggs, which they incubate with no help from the cock. Young pheasants grow up quickly and can fly within two weeks
