Day 8: Discovery
“Hey, he’s your ancestor too. Why don’t you hop in the animus?”
Desmond and William’s fight after the discovery of Haytham being a templar just sickens me in the best way possible. Desmond is so tired and wants to just live for himself for once, and William can’t see beyond the bigger picture. It definitely feels like intentional parallels between Ratonhnhaké:ton and Haytham’s story, though Desmond and William do ultimately find some sort of a resolution (I still don’t like William though).

Never seen anyone more confidently wrong than those people who call Haytham the worst father ever when he lives in the same universe as William Miles

Okay, we've all heard abt Desmond accidentally calling Shaun "Leo" or "Malik" and Shaun freaking out. And that's fun and all, but allow me to propose:
- A very tired Desmond called Rebecca "Claudia," and Rebecca's heart melted a little.
- Shaun brough Desmond some tea after a long session in the Animus, and he said, "Thank you, Shay." It took Desmond a good ten seconds to realize why everyone was staring.
- William was being Awful as per usual, and Desmond snapped in a perfect English accent. "Charles, control yourself or I'll have to ask you leave." The resulting explosion was heard from Abstergo headquarters.

Random thing: I just wanna imagine that scene where Desmond gets hit by Bill and just the second that his fist connects Desmond’s mom appears ready to go mama bear on this jackass for punching her son.
Desmond has no idea what just happened.
One moment, he felt then the pain blossoming from his cheek, his feet staggering a few steps back, his mind reeling as his body reacted instinctively to weaken the blow he just received.
Then…
Shaun and Rebecca shout.
For a moment, he had thought they screamed because of what happened to him.
But that was impossible.
Their reaction was a second too late.
They did not expect Bill to hit him but they also didn’t believe they had any right to go between them.
His head was still ringing when he saw her slap Bill with enough force to topple him to the ground. She wasted no time, kicking him while he was down.
Their shout had been a warning of her appearance.
Her movements were meant for speed, not strength, but she had always used that to her advantage. She tried to teach him that.
She also taught him to fight dirty and always aim for the weak spot. And that was what she was doing.
Her first kick was aimed between his legs.
As was her second.
Her third.
On and on, she continued to focus her quick strikes between Bill’s legs.
It was the Assassins who came with her that tried to drag her away from Bill, begging her to stop and to calm down.
It took three of them to drag her away.
He recognized them.
They were from the Farm.
What were they doing here?
Desmond has no idea.
She didn’t bother to say anything, pulling away from their hold and walking away from Bill who remained on the ground, twitching as he coughed up saliva.
She walked towards Desmond and placed her hands on his neck, his hands warm.
“Desmond…”
When he was growing up, he had always found her to be cold and distant.
But reliving Altaïr’s memories…
He finally recognized the softness in her gaze. The way her tone would becomes a bit gentler.
She reminded him of the many Levantine Assassins Altaïr had seen, unable to show their love for their children under Al Mualim’s reign.
So he smiles even if his cheek ached.
“Hey, mom.”
(Desmond’s mom’s main combo is Altaïr’s bitch slap followed by nuts or nothing)

Sense Ubisoft decided to give us jack shit on Desmond's mother I wanted to do my own little head-canon of her.
Desmond's mother is a cold, no-nonsense woman. A prodigy in her own right who was probably one of the options for the next mentor, but preferred field work. Her acts of love are through services and what is a better service to those she loves then ridding the world of templars. The longest she probably went without being out in the field was when Desmond was born and it isn't till he is 5 or 6 that she goes back out. Now she is working twice as hard. Not just for her fellow assassins, but now she has a son. A son who will be forced to do this same exact thing if she doesn't do something.
So she is around less and less. One day here, two days there. And maybe she thinks she is doing her family a favor. She deludes herself into thinking this will push Bill and Desmond closer together. Desmond will love Bill more because he is there and she is not. But it has the opposite effect. As he gets older Desmond starts to resent Bill. He can never be good enough. Never strong enough or fast enough. He is subjected to a constant stream of belittlement from his father. Bill works all the time and Desmond hates that he is forced to have dinners at an empty table all alone while Bill is in his office. So close but still too far.
But his mother? Oh his mother is his hero because all this time he has been building in his head the idea of what his mother is. An ideal mother. "Yeah she isn't here cause she is keeping us safe. Everyone says how great she is. The best of the best." He tells himself. Then as he gets older he starts to compare Bill to this idea of his mother. "If mom was here she'd be able to explain this better to me. She is really smart.", "When mom gets back I'm sure she can help me with this move. She's the best.", "Once mom gets here we can have dinner like a family, maybe we can cook together." on and on.
Finally, at 16, his mother is home for the first time for a longer than a day. Two whole weeks in fact. And he is so excited only for that reunion to be awkward and kind of cold. He doesn't get those meals together like he hoped. Training with her is worse than his father. With Bill he had learned when the man is actually paying attention and where, which allowed Desmond to slack in other areas, but with his mother she is always watching. She nitpicks every movement and doesn't seem to understand why he can't get something on the first try. She pushes Desmond well past exhaustion and makes him train even past that. Desmond's carefully crafted view of his mother is destroyed in just a few days leaving him empty and convinced that neither of his parents actually love him.
From Desmond's mother's point of view the reunion is "cold" because she doesn't know what to say to her son. She has been gone for so much of his life and the only things she really knows about him are through Bill. She knows he has potential, but he is "disinterested" and "never takes anything seriously" so in training she pushes him. She has been a field agent this whole time. She knows that a single misstep can mean death and Desmond is already 16. In a few more years they will send him on his first mission and she will be damned if she lets him die. Those missed meals together? She is with Bill in his office helping with his work and on occasion they will sit there with a bottle of scotch between them, talking about life before. Before he had to be mentor, when they had at least a little time to themselves. A little time for each other. She doesn't see what she is doing to Desmond.
When it's time for her to leave again she doesn't question Desmond's lack of smile or how he says he is going to go "train", she only thinks 'Good. He is going to start taking things more seriously.' She doesn't think anything is wrong when she gets off the plane and she drives to the safe-house. She doesn't know that Desmond has snuck out. Ran away from the home he believes never even cared about him. Nothing is wrong until Bill calls her and says the three words the shatters her world.
"Desmond is gone."

A silly comic why William Miles was kicked out of the Brotherhood. 😆 Bayek has no tolerance for abusers.

Listen, I hate William Miles as much as the next person, but I hate how the fandom makes him out to be this horrible abuser who hates his son.
He didn't hate desmond. He loved him in his own frustrating way. Was he the best person? No. But he still cared for desmond.
Whenever I bring this up, so many people will mention the fact that William punched desmond. However, they fail to realize that William was under a lot of pressure.
The world was going to end soon, and the only person who could save them was being difficult at every turn.
Was desmond justified in being difficult and rude? Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that he was still difficult.
So many people make him out to be some heartless monster, but a few things that will always debunk that is the voice recording in ac3. When desmond talks about one of his training exercises, and when he messed up, his dad didn't punish him. Instead, he praised him for being patient. Or when desmond saves William from abstergo, or when desmond speaks about clay memory of William, or when William admits that when desmond left, not a day went by where William didn't think of him.
Is William Miles a good parent? No. But in no way is he the worst

William Miles is somehow the worst father in ac3, a game about a guy who has to kill his father.
Imagine being worse at parenting than Haytham "got stabbed by his own son for being an idiot colonizer" Kenway.
"I am nothing like the Templars."
Buddy, the Templar we followed for most of the game cared to some extent about his son's survival. That already makes him a better father than you. The bar was on the fucking ground, and yet here you are, playing limbo in Hell.
You're worse than the Templars.

Been playing AC3 again lately and, for some reason, listening to Bill. It's great to hate him for his father of the franchise thing, but he seemed pretty sincere about trying to find Desmond beofore Absetergo. I'm kinda curious what would have happend if the Assassins did get there beforehand.
I agree that Bill was being sincere in finding Desmond before Abstergo did. I always saw him as someone who wanted to do what was best for Desmond and tried to protect him the only way he knew how. But that didn’t mean he didn’t hurt Desmond and his actions can easily be misinterpreted (especially by someone as young as Desmond was during that time) so yeah… Bill wanted to protect Desmond and he loved him in his own way but that didn’t mean he wasn’t a bad father.
And that would show even if he was able to find Desmond before Abstergo managed to capture him.
You did write ‘get there beforehand’ and I’m going to assume this means that they’ll be able to save Desmond from being abducted by Abstergo or get there before Abstergo captures him.
If it was the latter, Desmond would try to run away from the Assassins as well and probably won’t believe that Abstergo was trying to capture him (it would be funny and annoying if Desmond get captured by Cross because he was busy running away from the Assassins sent to get him) so…
We’ll have Desmond get saved by the Assassins during the time he was being captured by Abstergo. Cross and his goons would be surprised and the Assassins would use that to get Desmond out using the van Abstergo was about to use.
From there, Desmond would be escorted to the nearest hideout but, here’s the thing…
Since Lucy is staying with Abstergo, this means that Desmond would be saved by other Assassins and it can’t be Shaun and Rebecca because they’re more on the support side (until around Unity) so…
This means that the Assassins who would save Desmond would be those who tried to save him and died in AC1.
The ones to have been ‘implied’ to have been from the Farm.
It would feel like he was back on the Farm, surrounded by people he knew.
Would they be happy to see him?
Would they see him as stupid and foolish?
Those would be the things Desmond would be worrying about and he would want to run away, far away.
He would now understand that Abstergo does want him because of who he was but he would refuse to be an Assassin and he doesn’t want to be one, not ever.
Which means when he meets with William Miles…
Both of their voices would start to raise.
Words would leave their mouths that they may or may not regret later on.
Bill will call him the life he had spent living away from the Assassins as meaningless and without direction.
Desmond would say that he had been happiest away from the Assassins and that he didn’t want to be part of this shit.
In the end, Bill will raise his hand and hit his son.
And that punch will break whatever ‘foolish’ dreams Desmond held onto about making up with his parents, of finding some kind of middle ground.
And Desmond would do it once more.
He had done it before.
And he never forgot the lessons.
… that night, Desmond Miles disappeared once more.
And this time…
He was making sure no one would find him ever again.

Holy shit! Remember when I asked about that one crossover?
Red Dead Redemption 2 x Assassin’s Creed?
I’m gonna refine this shit a bit so stick with me here:
Desmond Miles, we love to fuck with this guy’s shit, I love this silly little guy in general, so, what if the events of Rdr2 happened because of a POE???
Like, bro? It works way too well, because ofc the Pinkertons would be Templars or something, it fits too well. The Van der linde Gang aren’t Assassins, but Arthur and John might have a bit of Isu blood in them. (Cough Dead Eye/Eagle Eye connection cough)
Lets say that Dutch “found” (read: stole) or was given a Piece by Micha (fuck that guy) and goes batshit crazy, and you know the rest.
So, either Desmond is in his time travel era and inadvertently saves the gang or he’s got enough time/is alive to see the memories of John or Arthur (yeah, Arthur’s only known kid died, but we can fudge some shit here if we wanted)
I just imagine the Assassin Crew talking about the gang and the legend surrounding them (because like several of the members survived so there has got to be rumors floating about), like that one Buzzfeed: Unsolved x Rdr2 fic!
That would be so dope, just saying.
