Kung Fu Panda 4 somehow revived me to the fandom, but it isn't like the Book of Bill where I am loving every preview of it, no sir, it's more of a "how fucking dare you ruined a perfect trilogy" revivement.

Some KFP4 thoughts
I been thinking about this for a while...
Tumblr media
Hear me out: I think the reason why opinions on Zhen are so divided (leaving out her VA) is because at giving her the "Dragon Warrior" title in the rushed way they did in the film, everyone is putting expectations on her to be "The new/next Po"
And... obviously SHE IS NOT PO,
SHE IS ZHEN, AND THAT'S OK
Tumblr media
SHE HAS POTENTIAL
But they didn't took their shots to make her shine AS A CHARACTER. On the one hand I think that, YES, the mistake of this movie is that EVERYTHING feels diluted, like everyone's arc is rushed and only told by the surface, since they never take their time to explain important things, like... Why Po should leave the "Dragon warrior" tittle to become the spiritual leader?
As far as I remeber, KFP franchise core, was about find yourself through the way of martial arts and the equilibrium between body, mind and spirit. And now that Po is the expert, he gets the task to guide!
And what means Guide?
Tumblr media
And how do you show to others an hability or an advice?
BY TEACHING, OF COURSE! PASS YOUR KNOWLEDGE AS A MASTER!
And the main issue about the plot of the film is that:
Tumblr media
PASS KNOWLEDGE ≠ INHERIT A POSITION
This is why the premise falls apart dramatically. Both can be related, YUP, but again, we never get that explanation, imagine this...
⫸ What if once he is named the Spiritual guide, Po can't fulfill both roles at the same time?
This could make him put his feet on earth, having a crisis about feeling not enough without his team, something like "imposter syndrome" which can fit with the shapeshifter theme of the villain.
Missing the old times, this following the line that the Furious five or Shifu will not be there forever to cover his back, because they have their own duties and responsabilities too, making that change something hard to accept.
And after meditate about his situation he decides to look for a sidekick to train. Like, comme on is something that Po could do, he always takes the initiative and that's one of his strong points, a usefull one for a leader.
Tumblr media
⫸What if they developed Shifu's jelousy for Po getting everything he (Shifu) searched FOR YEARS and never got?
They imply it, but again, another exploration missing, so he looks just like the cranky crazy man that tries to piss off his student for a whim. When he already had overcome that phase, accepted the change and aparently got a regression...
YES, BECAUSE:
Personal development has its high and low seasons.
That could be a good lesson to play on a movie, when depression, anxiety and some issues of mental health are so common these days
PLEASE, SOMEONE TAKE SHIFU TO THERAPY OR I WILL DO IT PERSONALLY, HE NEEDS IT ;^;)
IDK, I just felt like I wanted to write o(>ω< )o

SPOILERS FOR KUNG FU PANDA 4
This is a massive rant btw. I have a lot of thoughts about this movie
(TW: Bad spelling and not remembering any names 💀)
Tumblr media
...
Yh so I'm ranting rn
Like it was good, but not great 🕴️. Does not compare to the first 2, DEFINITELY not the second one, that one was just 🙌🏽 . And u know, that's ok, it's hard to pull a puss in boots and do better than the originals, but still the movie was lack luster
These are my points for why:
1. Plot was SO obvious. As soon as I saw that fox I knew she d be the new dragon warrior, cuz yh. Just obvious. And you know what? I wouldv been fine with that if they developed her character more. Like her bond with po SHOULDV been developed SO MUCH MORE. It felt like their whole dynamic was she was sarcastic and he went 🥺 n that's it. Like, why couldn't they have bonded more on them both being orphans ? How she feels unwanted because the world has rejected her and KEEPS rejecting her, but Po (who has gone thru a very similar thing) can teach her that yes that may be true, but that won't always be the case and once she finds her found family she can feel accepted, just like what happens to Po.
2. The villain and her daughter - so much potential but not enough done for them. Like just. I loved their dynamic, just SO MICH POTENTIAL BUT NOT ENOUGH GIVEN. There was one flashback of them meeting. That's it. There was basically only r4 interactions between them aswell: the betrayal scene, the "I'm using you" scene, the flashback and the final fight. And in NONE of these does it show how strong of a connection they have what about their relationship makes the fox betray Poe for the chameleon??? I wish we had a shi fu and tai lung type flashback where it showed the chameleon raising her and them developing a bond so that we know how hard it is for the fox to go against her orders
3. The villain herself - what motive ? U cannot convince me that "I'm evil because all the kung fu masters rejected me because I was too small" WHEN THERES A SNAKE THE SAME SIZE AS HER AND A F*CKING BUG WHO ARE BOTH AMAZING KUNG FU WARRIORS . like no. Just no. Someone would accepted her. U can't use her size as a reason for her becoming evil, just no. Instead, why not explain her reason being that she was poor/living in the streets ? A large portion of the movie is set around how there's a large group underground who have turned to crime, and poverty is often rampant in cities, so why not use that ? It also allows her to bond more with the fox as they have the same upbringing, but instead the chameleon was never able to get past how no one helped her and everyone rejected her, whilst the fox is able to accept where she is and find ppl who will accept her. Then they could've had a rlly impactful scene in the end where the fox accepts change and wanted the chameleon to change with her because SHE loves her and would fight for her, mother daughter style. Like writing that out just rlly made me think about how much they missed the mark, almost all 3 KFP movies are about father-son bonds, this movie could've had an impactful mother-daughter bond n it blew it 😩. So yh, I don't think the villains motive was fleshed out enough, I just don't think that her being small should have been the main centre for her character. Compare her to all the past villains, her motive is too simple and not developed enough
4. Tai lung and shen. NOT USED ENOUGH. How dare u bring those GODS OF VILLAISN back and not use them properly. And also have Po barely be surprised about them . SHEN IS THE MAN THAT COMMITTED MASS GENOCIDE AGAINST UR SPECIES, KILLED UR MOTHER AND LEFT U AN ORPHAN, Y R U NOT SHOCKED OR WORRIED THAT HE S HERE. And on top of that, ain't no what that peacock would simply bow and go " 🙂" and leave. He ain't bowing to Po, why would he respect him ? Shen doesn't CARE about being the dragon warrior, that wasnt his calling or whatever. Like, i could hav accepted it if he at least had a sentence apologizing for his actions, just ANYTHING that explains why he s so calm. I'm not angry that he is calm, I'm angry that it wasn't explained 🕴️(and tbh, I don't even think he needed a redemption arc much. He did horrible stuff, yes he has trauma, doesn't explain his actions. His death was a result of his arrogance and karma for his actions, I just think his character was fine (stressing him as a character was well written) the way it is, of anything this movie and taken away from his character )
And tai lung. Most of his character in this was comedy. And him going from "you are a mistake🙄" to "actually ur not a mistake 😏" within 10 minutes was annoying. I wish there was more interaction between him and Po. Then fighting together, bonding. Have them BOTH grow to move on from the title of dragon warrior together, since that title is such a grand part of both of their identities that they both have had a tough time letting go of. Once again, I'm not angry that he made jokes n was acting goofy (that was fun, I liked that), I'm annoyed that the movie didn't explain or provide context for why he was able to get over his past feelings and beliefs.
I can understand that they died and were able to let go of their actions in their mortal life, i just wish that it was addressed or properly shown. Especially shen, in his last moments he was given the chance to fess up n be good and he still refused. Bro died with u finished business, I would like to see how he came to terms with that or at least hav it b addressed
Overall, the bringing back of the past VILLAISN was fumbled. So much potential, but not used and on top of that it just kinda makes a joke of them and their original actions.
--> quick add on that I just remembered. Where r the five ? Like, I understand that they could've get the actors back or whatever. Ok find. But why not hav the chameleon capture all of them at the start and then they remain captured/past out/in a coma the rest of the movie until they R rescued :/. Like. That's such a better way of writing them out cuz a. It gives Poe even more incentive to want to take down the chameleon B. It makes the chameleon a much more threatening villain, cuz all the chameleon does in this movie is push one dude down some stairs, and then bring back so dead ppl, lick them n put them in a cage 🕴️. I would appreciate more stakes. ALSO PO SHOULDV TALKED ABOUT HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH THE 5 MORE, cuz this guy is a yapper, ain't no way he ain't talking bout them. It couldv once again been a way he bonded with the fox, if both of them had looked up to the 5 or something like that, or maybe even just about how Po can't wait to accept the fox into his found family
ANOTHER SIDE NOTE: wish they developed po and the foxes friendship. I might hav said this b4, I hav bad memory. Just there could've been more bonding , wish there was but alas 😪
5. Poe s trauma ? Now, I'm a psychology student. I love seeing mental health and depth show in movies so I kno I'm being a bit picky. I just wished that we could see more of Poe coming to terms of all the stuff that has happened to him. Or at least referenceing it. I just think that he was way too jokey and light hearted the whole time. Like, there was a scene where fireworks suddenly went off next to him. I wish he flinched or anything like that, since fireworks were such a big thing (almost a trigger) for him in the first movie because of the mass killing of his species by shen. Like, even if he has gotten over it all, it would have been great to have him reference everything he s been through. It could hav been one of the things he bonded over with the fox, how yes, times get tough but you can get thru it if u r supported by the right people
Like tbh I think it wouldv been rlly cool if this movie focused on love :both the healthy and toxic types. Bringing back old villains can reference old baggage , like the toxic love between tai lung and shi fu, and the chameleon and the fox. It could be about breaking those toxic habits and changing to move past them and let the last go. Po couldv acted as the message of that, he could show his surroundings characters how to let go of the past to move on to a better future . Like, after everything he s been through that wouldv been so impactful.
Overall, just a lot of missed potentials in this movie. Still liked it tho. So here are some things I liked.
Visuals: fun visuals . Tho I do think some of the scenery wasn't as memorable as previous movies. Like comparing this villains hideout (wrong word but oh well) to shens, shens is so much more memorable and impactful. Looking at it you feel intimidated. In this movie, not so much. But it was still very pretty and u can tell some hard work went behind it, had some great animations, very smoothe, so yh :)
VIOLA DAVIS AS THE CHAMELEON 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 LOVE HER, LOVE THE VOICE ACTING JUST 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽 like, the chameleon wasn't fleshed out as much as I'd hoped, but I still love her because I can FEEL that's she could be AMAZING cuz everything else was great except for the lack of backstory. Like I love her power, I love her character design, I love her voice .
The gay dad's 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 I loved them. Highlight of the movie for me🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 every scene I saw them I smiled. I just loved them so much, that was so cute, I love how they cared about Po so much AND CARED ABOUT EACH OTHER!! That was so cute. Loved that so much. I would watch an entire movie of them cuz just 🙌🏽🙌🏽 loved them so much.
So yh, that's it. Gonna go rewatch all the other movies now

I kinda hate Dreamworks-stans (
No, not Dreamworks films persay, especially the ones I haven’t seen that everyone is so hyped that I do see (The Last Wish, Rise of the Guardians, Kung Fu Panda 2-3). It’s just...
The attitude -some- Dreamworks fans have about these franchises is a real turn off for me. They mostly say only good things about these movies but...they're kinda...snooty? I don’t want another Paranorman situation, is all. Before I go any further I will say, I definitely think Dreamworks films objectively look better than Disney’s modern movies-.Dreamworks’ artists are more at home with cgi where Disney’s fantasy films don’t look or feel right in that medium, compared to How to Train Your Dragon, that is. And yet...
I’ve really never liked Kung Fu Panda as a series. I disliked the first and didn’t feel anything for it all, so I've never watched the second even though everyone assures me it's better. Yeah. I'm sure it is. Part of this is all because of inner-fandom petty nonsense; baby-faced KFP stans were saying Skunk Fu! is a ripoff of KFP. Objectively YES, KFP is a better moviestory but what if I just straight up don't like it or feel obligated to like it ((this debate was always stupid regardless of what franchise was 'better' or 'worse' than the other. The idea of furries doing martial arts is a popular trope in animation cuz different styles or martial arts are even NAMED after animals sometimes.)). Either way, despite it looking cool and having a peacock as the main villain I have no desire to give KFP any attention kind of BECAUSE you all are so obsessed with it being "JUST SO GOOD".
But the thing that really irks me about Dreamworks fans is how obsessed they are with design and aesthitics >> character development and appeal.
While I liked How to Train Your Dragon a lot, I really didn’t like the second movie. That film had WAY too much going on in it. It was overstuffed and gave me a headache. It had no room to develop itself properly and sns I hate the character of Valka. I hate how she’s written to be this actually a loving mother to Hiccup and really loved Stoic deep down. To me, that cheapens her character and her son’s uniqueness for bonding with Toothless if it’s really just that his mom is just like him. I read somewhere that she was actually supposed to be a distant, kind of “wild” character who was more interested in dragons and didn’t feel that natural maternal instinct because not all women are motherly and that’s fine, and now with Stoic changed (and then dead) and Hiccup needing her she’s got to face her past and connect her dragonrider side with her family. No idea if any of that's true but WOW. I would have like that way more. But instead- I found Valka really bland and kind of awfully written, just like the rest of her movie. Oh, but everyone just "LOVED" that movie because Stoic died or whatever. I didn’t feel anything for Stoic’s death despite me liking him in the first film. I thought the second movie was a good story in theory, BUT the execution was so bad I'm sorry. It all went by so fast and so clunk that I didn't actually feel anything for this shocking and dramatic character from the first film at the hand of his son's hypnotized dragon. Believe me, I GET where people are coming from about this scene. Again I get what the emotions were supposed to be. I’m saying I found the storytelling and pacing horrid and it, by virtue, ruined the character(s). Just to add salt in my wound, everyone and their mom seems to love Valka cuz she doesn’t have same-face syndrome like the modern Disney women all have. Again, objectively Dreamworks has a better eye for style. BUT YA KNOW WHAT? I really think some of you are way too locked into this “looks generic/basic pretty woman = bad character” philosophy which kinda makes me want to scream.
Sns Moana, Maribel and Elsa > characters than Valka and that girl from the Croods.
You don’t have to love or even like them or those movies, but I mean objectively I think they’re better written story-wise. To better explain it’s the same logic that badfaith reviewers apply to Illumination: people hate the characters for their made-to-be-appealing designs and grafted personalities as opposed to their actual shortcomings as characters in the writing. Same face syndrome, manic pixie dream protagonists and EVERY Disney movie being about a man and a woman going on a wacky three-day long adventure is annoying, but if the blowback from Wish is any kind of indication, people are not going to love it “no matter what” and Disney-adults aren't sheeple.
I’ll believe fans when they tell me How to Train your Dragon 3 is awful. Yeah, I don't doubt that. Bu,t can you all kindly eff off with the implication that everything wrong with that movie stems from how Toothless’s mate is a pretty girl whitedragon version of him? Can you all shut up about how the 'Light Fury' (stupid name) ruined your life?
I too hate the trope of “girl = lighter and pretty”, but of what I’ve read that’s not the problem with her, character wise. Frankly, given how some of you act, I’m not convinced you would have any of these hang ups about her had she been better designed and not just white-Toothless. From the way some of you sound, it kinda feels like if her design was actually good, you would be stanning her character even after her movie/character turned out to be bad. It's why I also don't trust ya'll when it comes to that Elsa-looking fox girl in the new KFP 4 movie and how 'bad' she looks. Yeah, she DOES look bad...but I don't know by what margin you're talking about.
In the end, where Disney adults are their own kind of hivemind of shallow - believe me, I know - I kinda hate the unself-awareness of Dreamworks fans. They remind me of that side character in Mean Girls who gets the main character to spy on the Plastics because she hates them. They’re their own kind of shallow and mean. I wish they would at least be aware of that.
Also, Jeffry Katzenberg is NOT your friend. He's an AI-advocate and it's his fault Disney made Pocahontas.

I saw Kung Fu Panda 4 yesterday and it was alright, I guess. Fun but a bit unnecessary.
Things I Liked
The animation is beautiful. I originally thought it looked off in the trailers but seeing it on the big screen really makes it pop.
Jack Black is great as always. I've only recently noticed how great of a voice actor he is. He really embodies his roles and it becomes easy to see Po as as character rather than "Jack Black Panda."
Speaking of Po, I like how he has to learn to give up being the Dragon Warrior to be something greater. I feel like that's a natural evolution of his character arc. I also appreciate how Po is clumsy and awkward but not incompetent. The movie shows that despite his nature he's also extremely skilled.
Relating to that, I love Po's buddy-cop friendship with new character, Zhen. Teaming up an extremely moral character with a slightly amoral character gives the two a nice dynamic.
Action sequences are great as always. Got a couple laughs out of me too.
Things I didn't like
Zhen is a bit of a mixed bag. While I like the concept behind the character, it feels like the movie didn't take full advantage of her. We get a brief look at her past, but it is very brief. Her arc also happens way too quickly and an important part of it is OFF-SCREEN for some reason? Not to mention Awkwafina is supposed to a crafty, sneaky, amoral thief but she just comes across as...just Awkwafina. Her design also felt a little out-of-place with the rest of the KFP world.
The Chameleon is seriously underdeveloped for being the main villain. Her reasons for her villainy are bleh and a weird way to try and tie her to Po thematically. And that sucks because I love her powers and her big evil plan isn't too bad on paper either.
This movie is fast. Not incredibly fast, but it goes by pretty quickly. Doesn't really let things settle. Just try to get to the next plot point or action sequence as quickly as possible.
Po's dads (but not in a gay way) feel forced into this plot. They get some laughs out of me, but their little side-journey is pretty pointless.
The Furious Five are completely absent here save for a short cameo. I feel you could've actually tied into the plot in some way, considering Po has to choose the next Dragon Warrior.
It's way too predictable. I could see where the plot was going miles away. I could tell how things were gonna wrap up I think about 5-10 minutes into the movie. I also guessed a big twist that happens near the end of the movie.
In short, fun movie that has some flaws. If you're a pretty big Kung Fu Panda fan (and/or a small child) I think you'll have a pretty good time. If not then...eh?

Why It Worked: Kung Fu Panda
Tumblr media
Introduction: Kung Fu Panda is a 2008 animated film staring Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, James Hong, Jackie Chan and Ian McShane. Directed by John Stevenson and Mark Osborne, the film was released on June 6, 2008 after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15 of that same year. The film went on to receive critical acclaim from critics and audiences (Rotton Tomatoes collected 183 reviews and 87% of them gave and average score of 7.2/10) and grossed $631.7 million on a budget of $130 million. It spawned 2 sequels, 5 shorts, 2 TV shows and 5 video games. It was DreamWorks Animation’s highest grossing non-Shrek film domestically until it was surpassed by How To Train Your Dragon 2 years later (KFP made $215 million in the U.S. and Canada while HTTYD made $217 million domestically). I’ve always enjoyed this movie and as the years went by I’ve come to love it more as an adult. In this post I’d like to explain why this film defied the odds and became one of the best movies from DreamWorks Animation’s filmography.
Tumblr media
The Plot: Kung Fu Panda has a rather bizarre premise even by animation standards. A panda is chosen to be the protector of ancient China (this China has anthropomorphic animals living in it) and must learn to master kung fu before an evil snow leopard comes to his village to reek havoc. To make things even stranger, the leading panda is played by Jack Black, 1 half of the raunchy rock duo Tenacious D and at the time was mostly known for playing the eccentric rock star in School of Rock, the bumbling lucha dore Nacho Libre and Lenny the shark from the polarizing animated film Shark Tale. This sounds like it couldn’t work, and yet the filmmakers pulled it off by making a genuine story about a guy who loves kung fu but feels he’s not good enough to master it even after he’s dubbed the Dragon Warrior. The film goes to great lengths to show Po’s struggle to learn how to be a kung fu master in the most hilarious ways possible. From him losing a tooth to a practice dummy to him being pumbled by the Furious 5 and Shifu during training, Po takes several beatings during the film and the visual gags always land. Speaking of visuals, the animation in this film is some of the best work from DreamWorks Animation and still holds up to this day. The Valley of Peace looks so authentic to ancient Chinese cities and the character animation is so fluid and lively. This is especially true during the fight scenes, which are all nothing short of dope. One scene in particular that stands as one of the best action set pieces in cinema (yes, cinema) is Tai Lung’s prison escape. The tension rises the higher he climbs, the cinematography follows his every movie, he perfectly makes mince meat out of all the rhino guards and just when you think they got him, he turns the tables and annihilates them with their own dynamite. One of the greatest lessons this film teaches is towards the end when Po is given the dragon scroll and he finds that it’s just his reflection. He then learns that his father, Ping the goose, didn’t put any secret ingredient in his Secret Ingredient Soup. Po learns that there’s no secret ingredient not just to the soup but to who he is as a person. He’s already special because Shifu, Oogway and most importantly he himself believed he was special.
Tumblr media
Cast and Characters: Jack Black was not just the best man to voice Po; he was the ONLY man to do this character justice. Everything from Po’s mannerisms, his eccentric attitude and his happy-go-lucky attitude are all because of Jack Black. It’s clear Jack loves voicing the character and it even shows during his most emotional moments. Po feels like such a relatable guy as he has his self doubts but never truly gives up. Dustin Hoffman plays an excellent Master Shifu, making him sound old and grumpy, yet also quirky and funny in parts. The Furious 5 are all integral to the development of Po and stand very strong on their own. It also helps that they’re all played by great actors in their own right. Angelina Jolie brings the perfect amount of sternness to Tigress, Jackie Chan was perfectly comical as Monkey, David Cross was funny and relatable as Crane, Lucy Liu sounded so sweet as Viper, and Seth Rogan brought his best family friendly humor to the role of Mantis. Randall Duk Kim sounded so wise and quirky as Oogway, James Hong was funny and relatable as Ping and the late great Michael Clarke Duncan was especially entertaining as Commander Vachir. Then there’s Tai Lung, who’s most certainly among one of DreamWorks Animation’s best villains. He’s so fierce, intimidating, powerful and also empathetic. His backstory is excellently handled and he’s hyped up brilliantly as this fearsome foe and he does not disappoint. Ian McShane was brilliant as the film’s main baddie, bringing such gravitas and pride to this character.
Tumblr media
Where It Falters: I only have one gripe with the film as a whole: GIVE ME MORE FURIOUS 5!!! I cannot be the only one who thinks these characters could easily hold their own movie. The Secrets of the Furious 5 shorts were good, don’t get me wrong, but I want to see their first mission together, how they learn to be a team and become the masters they are now. I recognize that a spin-off to Kung Fu Panda isn’t going to happen immediately (considering where DreamWorks Animation’s focus is these days) but I’d definitely pay money to see a Furious 5 film.
Tumblr media
Conclusion: Kung Fu Panda is very much one of the prime examples of “don’t judge a book by its cover” personified as a feature film. Despite its odd premise, it makes for a funny, action packed, emotionally resonate and wonderfully written film with great cinematography, amazing animation and stellar voice acting. It very much stands on par with DreamWorks Animation’s best films and is more than worth of its cult status. Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you soon. Skadoosh! ;)

Me just trying to predict things Kung Fu Panda 4
Predicting the villain:
This is just some common sense stuff but I’ll say it anyways.
For species it’ll most likely be another animal native to China. Most likely not a feline, bird or bull since it would draw parallels to prior villains.
The main enemy will probably be female, as to break the series of male villains. They’ve done it to Shrek, with fairy godmother.
Dreamworks said, during the creation of Kai, “He cant go brawler, since Tai Lung was brawler. He cant go smarter, since Shen was smarter. Where can we go? You have to go supernatural, bigger, and even more intimidating.” Just like the Averngers franchise, there’s a constant law placed where the villains must get progressively stronger the more the series progresses. Without the villain getting stronger, there’s no conflict —or at least not enough conflict to top the lmovie before it. The villain in Kung Fu Panda 4 must be at least different from the other three villains, or attains two out of the three assets that make up for prior villains. For example, the villain can be both smart and supernatural. Or be a brawler and a smarty. I think particularly for this one, the villain would need to have supreme authority and immanent or supernatural powers. While Kai worked in solidarity in terms of mind, it might be possible that the next villain might actually be villains with one superior guiding over them (the main enemy Po will fight). A regime-styled cooperation, with a leader. Each person in the group is bound to have a one on one against one of the Furious Five. This way, the group can actually do something without compromising the relevance of Po since he’s still the one who’ll defeat the main villain.
In this light, what might be the conflict?
The problem is that Po is nearly a perfect character. Oogway said it himself: he is both sides of the ying and yang. To reach such equilibrium, the soul must be stable, and Po would have been ridden of all evil (check my mirror of yin and yang theory out if you havent already pls). This means that Po would have to break pretty darn bad on the next movie. Every story has a scene where it shows a character’s breaking point. But to break a character who’s both sides of the yin and yang... well, that character would have to put through a lot of hell. That’s why I believe someone’s gonna die in the fourth movie [insert Mr. Ping], or someone’s gonna be temporarily taken away from Po [insert Tigress]. And here’s another thing: the first movie is about body, the second is about mind, and the third is about spirit. What’s left? The heart.
Tumblr media
So... these are the core factors that make a human. Flesh is where the soul lives. Mind and heart is what makes a person. You know what heart means? Love. You what love mean? Either romance or family. Now the third movie was already a little bit about family, so does that means theres a little, you know, romance? You know. A certain Tigress that can make Po master the concept of heart. 😏 but in reality, I don’t think drreamworks will make Tigress hostage. It’s not enough catalyst for Po to break, unless they make it seem like Tigress died. And I just cant see it either... too cliche for a story so anticipated. It’ll make sense of Mr Ping would die.
It doesn’t necessarily mean someone’s gonna die though. But the internal conflict must have magnitude near beyond repair, and will damage his heart more than anything else.
What’s the settings?
They always try to change the settings. Valley of Peace. Then to Gongmen. Then to Panda Village. The valley was more a traditional chinese suburb of sorts. Gongmen was an industrial, probaby tech-savvy city. And the panda village was a playground. This one is unpredictable. They might start the movie of at the panda village instead of the valley (which is sad); they took the thousand mile bridge to Mongolia, so the panda village may border Mongolia. And that may mean they’ll travel upwards to the bordering country.
Will the movie fail?
The movie has been delayed till 2020. All three movies have above 80% in Rotten Tomatoes, which is extremely high for the website.
Shrek 3 was rated 48%, which is nearly half of the rating it earned in shrek 2 (89% —ok, not really nearly half but it’s a major dip!) Kung Fu Panda 3 was actually rated higher than KFP 2, which bodes well on the series’ consistency. Luckily (and unfortunately for dreamworks) this high rating perpetuates the pressure of making better kfp movies, to keep all the KFP movies clean And untarnished, to finish strong and not to taper at the end in quality like Shrek. They had four years to work on it. So we’re just sitting here pretty. Financially, the series is doing phenomenal.
But something else worries me. KFP 3 was waaaay to kid friendly for the series. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a childrens show. But a dark underlying plot lay deep in both 1 and 2. Heck. Kfp 1, Shifu lost a child. In kfp 2, implications of genocide. It seems kfp 3s light heartedness was a reimbursement for the darkness they placed in kfp 2. Hopefully, this big bane of appealing to the younger audience won’t negatively affect the deepness and the plot of the fourth movie. But with panda kids, with dim and sum, with mei mei, and with ling or whatever panda father Po has, I think that won’t be the case. If you compare kfp 1 and kfp 3, you could really see a huge difference in tone.
What will happen to the Furious Five:
Them failing after trying to fight the main villain without Po is to repetitive. It seems dreamworks likes it so that Po is the only one who defeats the villain, while the furious five just stands there and lets him skadoosh his way to da top. It’ll be nice, like I said, if they fought a group instead of just one villain. So that everyone has a share if villains, and Po can still take the main villain.
About Shifu and Tigress’s relationship. It’ll Also makes sense if Shifu would pass away, giving Po no choice but to accept full responsibility as the head of the Jade Palace and the teacher of the Furious Five. Or, it’ll also make kind of sense if Tigress is gone temporarily, making Shifu want to spend time with her. If kfp 4 is the last movie then their relationship would be mended. If kfp will really go up to the sixth, then theyll have to prolong the conflict because then there’s really no thread that keeps all the stories connected and make all the stories a one whole story. If they wanted the movies to essentially be a obe whole story, it would make sense if there’s a similar conflict transcending all films and wrapping at the end. With the rise of new characters, the furious will definitely have less screen time. ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️😠😠😡😞🙃
Anyways, these are just my predictions. What do you guys think would happen?

What’s something you would change about the franchise, either in story or character or how it affects the real world/fandom?
there’s a lottt about the third movie i’d like to change story- and character-wise, but a more general thing that’s always bothered me a little is that all three main villains meet their end at the end of the movies thinking emoji
in shen’s case, of course, this bothers me less bc i’ve always felt his story is very satisfying. as interesting as fan-created works where he survives and works toward redeeming himself are, in canon i think it would have felt… cheap, or too quick. he’d made it clear on multiple occasions that he wasn’t going to change and that he was a vile, spiteful creature intent on succeeding or dying trying, and that’s exactly what he did. plus it was a nice parallel to po, who did move on from his sad past and look to the future in a way shen never could
i guess i sometimes wish there was more of a connection between the individual movies. and i can’t complain too hard about this bc as far as franchises go? kfp does this wonderfully with chaining their movies together and yet moving the story forward. but there’s still a sense that these were all imagined individually with only certain characters connecting them all. tai lung had to be defeated in a way where he wouldn’t return for the second, bc a new villain would need to be created. and the same for shen. the same for kai. i think it would have been interesting to have a few more connecting, unfinished strings between the movies
to say nothing of how the third movie seems to. not acknowledge the second at all ._.
i can’t really think of anything else off the top of my head that doesn't relate specifically to the third movie. i think the first two films are real solid films and while the third is definitely flawed and maybe. not as solid, i still personally enjoy it (mostly for mr. ping shhh)

🥺: Oh, boy. There are most of my characters interact, and I like to create their feelings more realistic and impactful to their family/friendships.
What's impacting me more from my WIP is the bitter connection between the father and son. Not long ago, I made the first draft of my latest chapter for my original character paying his visit to see his father one last time. One of his father's crimes was domestic violence, which Le forced his son Wang not only to make him a student as a flawless warrior, but he abused him once his son never liked what his dad did to bully anyone, even his own students.
I kept thinking about a heartwrenching scene that did make me reflect on them most of all: in the beginning, they were a happy family until a complicated crime went down south which Le never did anything wrong. It's a long story from their backstories, but I can't share this spoiler.
I do have a few characters that I am related to their personalities. While I am good at angst and friendship, a main character of mine will encounter one in future volumes.
🙋: I do, not gonna lie. My friends in real life I hang out with do read my fics. As much as they inspired training in a martial arts class, I wrote my first fic for my teacher and my companions. We all are fans of KFP (Kung Fu Panda). Now the second book (I am currently writing) for my cousins (they are my sisters we grew up with each other) and my grandmother. They do not know yet, but someday I will, as the sequel's hidden element presents something that each of us souls means in our hearts.
🎶: Oh, yes indeed!! There are like mega lists I wish to list all that I jam while writing. Classic rocks at first, then on youtube if you see videos of several-hour themes like melodies, meditations, writing, etc.
During writing an action scene, I use Snyderverse Adrenaline Cut (pieces of music from Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman, and Zack Snyder's Justice League), any rhythm music that maintains the pacing of the action sequences. And those will be looping when I am at the climax!
For sad scenes, I would find a few that can let me manifest in my characters going into difficult paths, and dramas.
Writing something calm, I search for Chinese melodies as I am currently in the Kung Fu Panda world, writing quotes at first before describing visual scenes. I also found music for villains' purposes while writing from their perspective or about them.
There are several, but these are the links I recommend for writing and inspiration as well.

💖: This is a very good question.
Ever since I was in high school, maybe around junior or senior year, while having a new journey of writing, I started a very first fic (which, to be honest, I was terrible at grammar) when I thought of my favorite cartoon movie, featuring my childhood heroes Charlie and Itchy from All Dogs Go to Heaven. I used to write an old fic before but lost my inspiration, so I scrapped it (I still have All Dogs Go to Heaven fic in my vault).
At first, when a teacher I knew said that writing is hard, she was exactly right that when you write a novel at first, there are always going to have mistakes here and there, but coming back to revisit your drafts for correction is a must. But still, even writing a book is a hobby for fanfiction (or work if you are publishing your original works with your editor or beta readers, receiving lots of money, and having your constant readers from around the world), it is challenging.
Not all of us are gifted writers (unless you are a popular horror novelist who wrote 2000 words a day), but we all like to become authors, each of us to share incredible stories. At first, FanFiction is where I started there, doing my best as I may be a good novelist as that does practice my writing. Not only the website but reading books that Stephen King said is a tool for the best use of writing. And I strongly agree. Reading books, including good fanfiction stories, sharpen your mind, even keeping your words flowing like wine. While there is also complex words in books, you wish to know, Google is all there for dictionary websites. Research is your best friend!

That's all I can answer questions, including links for musics! Thank you for asking four questions, Shey! Time for me to get back writing KFP fic! Have fun listening the links!
