watched berserk (97) on a whim after reading someone's tags on a writing advice post on how to justify Big Fucking Swords in stories. have started reading the manga. there's a lot of triggering visuals to me so i imagine this is what it's like to be lactose intolerant and decide to eat so so so much ice cream

It's important to me that Steph (Stephanie Brown) is hot. Like drop dead gorgeous bombshell BUT you wouldn't know it because she spends 99% of the time wearing her ex-boyfriend's sweatpants and a sports bra she's been stretching out since she first got boobs and nothing else. Hair up in a bun on top of her head that she actually made like 3 days ago and refuses to redo, so she just keeps tightening it. She puts effort in like 1 day out of every year for a Justice League party and people are too swept up in how beautiful she is to notice that she's tipping an entire tray of chicken wings into her clutch (zatanna made it bottomless for her as a favor). Also she knows she's hot and is incredibly confident in it and has told Dick to his face that she's the prettiest one in the family but it's nice that he puts in such an effort anyway. She always volunteers for any mission that requires flirting because "I'm everyone's type" so of course she'll succeed. However she also thinks it's funny when she overhears people playing fuck marry kill with the batgirls and they choose to kill her, so, you know. She contains multitudes.

boston2 anniversary is kind of crazy

#kind of was the start of the worst miserable downfall of my entire life #but also was kind of the only surface break in a full year of drowning #so mixed feelings bc i feel like were it not for the post concert crash i feel like my sophomore slump would’ve been much better #but in a way if i hadn’t had mcr or boston2 that year i would have probably died #i was shocked when i saw it had been a year #bc i feel like that felt so far into the school year and my depression last year #and this year it’s only the first week of school! #but emotionally it feels like it’s been 2 or 3 years #like my soul has aged like 5 years since then #i am making no sense bc im high but idk i feel like i need to commemorate it #one of the saddest and most special moments of my life and triggered so much feeling in me #like i was the weirdest worst person in the world for not fitting there or here #it sounds like im ragging on it but i really needed the change in my worldview and my thought about my place in the world and at harvard #it was my lifesaver. it was the best day of my life last year. it was the first and last time I felt beautiful in 2022 #my hair is like that again after a year of growing out. not to gush or seem as though i’m hyping up ONE but i really do adore his imagery and symbolsim he uses

there’s stuff used commonly such as plants and flowers (cactus for ritsu and the bouquet in confession along with everything with the divine tree) as well as the use of hands for just about anyone but particularly reigen and teru come to mind (could be read as a means of keeping up and breaking their facades respectively)

but then there’s things like trash and garbage used when we see kamuro (very direct in its means but i really do love this example because i feel like i don’t often see garbage used to tell or reflect anything about a character or their sense of self. it’s wormed it’s way into my art and i think about it quite often.) and light but mostly water in relation to reigen. there’s also teru’s hair but since that’s way more direct i don’t really know if it fits here i’m more talking about stuff that is simply shown but not expanded on much within canon. it’s simply there as a visual aid

but i really do enjoy the way one presents these things because 1) they often look wonderful in the manga panels and are some of my favorites when these things are shown. but 2) none of it feels like it’s just surface level and slapped on top.

this is one of favorite like pairs of panels in the manga bc i am a sucker for botanical imagery but also i love what’s chosen for them. ritsu with cacti and the narration given is pretty explanatory but i still love it. but kamuro with roses makes me giddy bc for fucking once it’s not a stupid romance flower. worst romance flower sorry i hate roses. but to lean into a rose’s association for passion along with its usual dark red coloring makes it perfect for both his character and this arc being sinister and obsessive with cleanup. i love it so much

oh not to mention spoons too! i don’t have a cohesive explanation or personal reading on spoons but obviously it’s strongly correlated with ritsu and his mental state and mentality towards himself etc. it’s kind of like a punching dummy that later reflects the emotions he takes out on ppl thru his powers lol.

i cant really think much of anything else as of rn i just really like when it’s clear that the author of something doesn’t necessarily abide by typical outlines made for common symbolism or imagery and rather make up their own canon and meanings for things commonly used to uncommon and mundane objects, body parts, or other things like animals and nature in relation to their own story and universe. that’s what makes these actually feel like they are rooted in these characters rather than just assigning vague random things that loosely fit a character. hope that makes sense.
