Another installment of “Christian” reality TV hell

I don’t know if I’ve posted about this show before but I’m on a roll since posting about the Duggar documentary so here it goes….

Basically the premise of “Preachers Daughters” was to publicize the private sex lives of mostly underage girls so that the secular world can joke about how even religious girls are still secretly dirty sluts who totally want it. 🙄

God only knows why any preacher would want to publicize his daughter and her personal drama like that but these families seemed willing to play the part with the girls winking to the camera in these posters and advertisements. 😒

It feels like young women from religious backgrounds are torn between 2 types of sexism. Old school religious sexism that says sex is bad; and modern reality tv pop culture that mocks them for being repressed and expects them to be hyper sexual as if that’s the more “sex positive” option.

There are better ways of saying “purity culture is damaging to girls” than by publicizing underage girls sex lives and the resulting family drama as salacious reality tv, while winking and implying that all teen girls are inevitably horny sluts and fetishizing the “loss of virginity” myth narrative.

All so their preacher fathers can make money!😡 these girls deserved better

I was watching a clip of the nutcracker on youtube and someone complained about the ballerina dancing as clara because "an adult playing a 12 year old is creepy" and guys. I think we need to shut down takes. No more takes until we figure out what's going on.

CHILD LABOR?#profesional ballet is incredibly intense both mentally and physically #12 is a really young age to go en pointe in the first place let alone for HOURS on end every day #like i can understand this shit in like. tv or movies but on LIVE PERFORMANCE???#on camera you are so close to the actor appearance matters a lot more and you can make more forgiving schedules for child actors #in ballet you CAN'T account for those schedules #and the dancer's... you know. DANCING matters way more than how young they look. you're sitting 50m away it DOESN'T MATTER #i'm not sure how to like... tag this beyond the rant #im not even sure if it was purity culture or just a pure hatred for adult women #because the commenter went to complain that the dancer (who was 24) 'looked in her 40s'#ballet #the nutcracker #the dancer was Sae Maeda for the record who is BRILLIANT

*DEEP BREATH* OKAY SO! tldr there's a giant moral panic in the legends arceus fandom from purity culture/antis about a super niche incest pairing of side character warden ingo and his (notably absent) brother emmet. except the sheer SCALE to which this spitting, vitriolic (...and performative: see the giant shitfest when japanese fanartists started blocking people with ‘proship dni’s and suddenly those dnis ~mysteriously disappeared~ like hmm! might be something there!) hatred means that basically any fluff piece that gets posted also comes with a giant “ALSO I KILL INCEST SHIPPERS I MUST CONSTANTLY REMIND EVERYONE OF THE FACT AN INCEST PAIRING EXISTS WITH THESE TWO CHARACTERS FUCKING ON ANY AND ALL G-RATED FLUFF PIECES”

yeah so that’s the background. like ive literally seen fics of the teen sidekick getting railed by the entire adult cast float around but nah, it’s only this one, niche pairing that gets plastered all over the tags on the genfic tags on ao3. (which, again, shows how performative out the wazoo it is with these people. seeing ‘proship dni’ tagged on a fanfic on archive of our own, the site literally built by a wincest shipper to host Problematic™ Content™™ the first time absolutely sent me... but the six hundred times after that were much less funny. also the death threats that some come with. yeah. not funny.)

anyway i noticed it started spreading into parental ingo&protagonist fics where emmet is literally not even mentioned whatsoever a few weeks ago. and now i have found at least one fic that’s at the point where neither character involved in the pairing are even present in said media. and the fucking ‘bLaNkShIp dNi’ tags are still there.

I’m always so fascinated by fan culture.. is there like genuine research on why people act the way they do to normal human beings.

Stars in “A Walk to remember” which is a surprisingly sensitive and realistic portrayal of being a religious teen girl who is ruthlessly bullied and has badly photoshopped ironic porn of her spread throughout her school to mock and shame her for not having a penis inside of her yet. She also loves studying science especially astronomy because science doesn’t inherently conflict with her faith and she LITERALLY DIES OF CANCER at the end.

Stars in “Saved!” Which is a mean spirited, condescending, patronizing, bad faith satire of religious girlhood where OF FUCKING COURSE a religious girl gets pregnant as a teen after a failed attempt at converting a gay boy. Her pregnancy is later publicly revealed to the whole world without her consent to mock and humiliate her because come on isn’t that funny guys????? Mandy Moore is NOT the one who gets pregnant but is one of the religious bullies.

Teen girls just can’t win can they? Make it make sense Mandy Moore 🙄. You’re either bullied for being a sexually repressed prude or you’re fetishized as a porn category or called a hypocrite for having sex.

My fellow white people are frighteningly good at believing that any anti-racism action that crosses their path is "problematic" and considering themselves as critical thinkers for rejecting the need to support it until it does a better job.

Almost as good as they are at ignoring PoC when they say something is problematic and needs to change before it should be supported.

Me: Wow, I’m having a difficult time right now with med changes and things.

Me: Now is an excellent time to want to figure out how to run a Star Wars OC Server. Because this fandom is clearly made up of stable, rational people who don’t regularly piss me off with the most rancid takes imaginable. There’s no way this can go horrifically wrong at lightspeed.

Anyway, I’m probably gonna watch youtube videos on how to do this. I’m brand new to actually setting up a server with the intention of being any sort of public. If I do undertake this I want to know what in the fuck I’m doing. Because I like to be as smart as possible when making the stupidest decisions.

I know I’m just an old fart, but it really gets me seeing YouTube media critics under the age of 18 just…completely misinterpreting what a show’s message is. And not just that, but also assuming that the writers are constantly “walking back” earlier seasons as if the story wasn’t planned like this from the start.

Just because you didn’t like a story doesn’t make it a bad story.
