i rewatched fury road and it is not penciled in on my daily agenda to type too much here even though i can't keep anything brief but like. i mean as ever: furiosa: everything to me
i had just recently been musing on like. the Connections and Interactions from Afar, like, maybe close enough to see someone rather than Necessarily scores of miles away type of farness, but wherein like, intimacy, A Dynamic, a Connection, Significance, etc, can all be happening at peak like depth and importance and genuineness without this being correlated with increasing physical proximity or direct contact....the way that the dynamics that are developing and shifting with relationships in fury road being like, so little of this is happening through Speaking. there's such non normative interacting / socializing / communicating from all these mfs like this Pwns. furiosa's pure "i am here behind you and shoot you a quick silent Gesture without even looking directly at you b/c i saw you in my peripheral vision look back enough to see me in Your peripheral vision" like. the way she and nux are perfect comrades mode in the end without her having spoken to him since pointing a gun at him, with her prior interactions being: [spit in face], prior to that, [knife at throat]. but it all makes perfect sense when it's about shifting from "are you at least not someone who's immediately trying to kill me" to "our goals are parallel / not at odds rn" to truly sharing Thee Same goal, beyond any more tentative alignment.
like there's not that much of like, showing us how relationships have developed via displays of Verbal Rapport, though there's varying illustrations of people's ease, and style, with Talking....nux quickly becoming quite affably relatively chatty, presumably from having always been around a bunch of peers, the girls having a somewhat more "strange" way of talking amongst themselves, the other girls having more humor and talkativity when there's been more of them and living more freely, furiosa also fairly isolated but presumably having regular opportunities to talk, if even just in her capacity as imperator....the Nonspeaking speaks to me, the way What People Are Doing for each other, what they Aren't doing to each other, all matters beyond anyone needing to go "you're alllllright!" only after some like, cooldown messing around usual Rapport Building scenes or anything like that, though of course it's relevant that they hardly have time or space for that anyways....just like, it matters first and foremost that people aren't people who want you dead, and it matters that people are people who are trying to live, and they're listening and paying attention to each other even beyond "this person is directly &/or extensively conversing with me"
i can't go on all day ugh i love how little Conversing matters lmfao. i love how What Really Matters is what really matters. the entire arcs happening despite nobody's "normal" socializing with each other....toast becoming like, closer to furiosa, taking to the Fighting & Weapons Handling of it all, standing near her, talking to her, having that peak position of relevance during the climactic events....thinking like damn f for the valkyrie every time and that gayass reunion (hell yeah) and dying 5 min later, but eventually finally noticing in full like my god the fact that she took out a few mfs who furiosa then did not later have to battle while losing blood, air capacity, that Interaction of Great Significance from afar....thinking about the journey of "does knowing my name matter" to "sharing my name as this manifestation of [sips water HUMANITY RESTORED] but via, like, having [HUMANITY] of others' shared with you, finally, as well as your sharing your own, the interactions based on That vs nothing beyond 'you are not going to kill me in the immediate future / i don't yet have to fight or flee over anything from You'" like, in my still like "wow. driving" enhanced sensitivity and just like ready to think of things re: Autistacity it's like, truly this realm where [who can you know isn't about to kill you or only Just willing to ignore you for now at best?] where [to whom are you not only a possible threat or merely an obstacle] where [whomst is caring about What Matters and what people are Actually Doing and pursuing Actually Getting To Live. all versus someone's superficial affect of warmth or charm or Normality or w/e tf all that hardly matters that much, sure not More than what they Actually Do and their Actual Goals] the [fr how it's so not like Speaking Is Everything out here, fuck yes] like idk cried hard at that My Name Is Max moment beyond any degree before lol like might've gotten momentarily misty as is easy enough for me to do, but shed two whole tears this time. fury road you're so much to me....furiosa you're soooooooo Everything

2! 7! 14! 22! 26! 35! 41! 50! 63 [LDOMLK]! 72! 74! 77! / I'M SORRY 😭😭😭
these are GOOD questions 🫠🤠
OMG SARAH!!!! STICKING MOST OF THIS UNDER A READ MORE... YOU DEMON...... (thank you and i love you 😭😭)
2. Where do you get your fic ideas?
legit anywhere, everywhere. sometimes in movies or tv shows, sometimes from songs, sometimes from random shit i see on the internet, sometimes from my personal life 🤭 and sometimes my brain just goes "hey wouldn't it be wild if X" so like i have to assume those come straight from god lmaooooo
7. Post a snippet from a wip.
one day i'll finish park and ride 3..... but for now i'll give you the intro ~under the cut~ 👀
Tumblr media
14. What is your favorite location and position to write in?
in my mf bed lmaooooo or on my couch. i'll write basically laying down with my laptop on my stomach bc anything else makes my back hurt because i'm NEARLY 30 👹
22. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process?  How do you come up with titles?
this can happen anywhere along the line. sometimes i'll steal the title from a song, either one that inspired the fic ("party on you" comes from charli xcx's party 4 u, "heartless" comes from the kanye west song) or didn't but the specific song line feels correct ("the shape of your body" comes from taylor swift's cruel summer, which.... does not fit the plot at all but i thought it worked well for the themes of bodies/art). sometimes the title comes first and i build the fic around that theme ("babygirl"). sometimes i finish a whole fic and i'm like what the fuck do i call this and i pick something that feels obvious and fits with the story ("park and ride", "two in one").
26. What’s your least favorite part of the writing process?
the first draft 💀 i LOVE outlining, and i LOVE polishing/detail editing stuff once i have a first pass written, but getting that first pass out.... it's like pulling fucking teeth. every time. like do i even like writing 🤣
35. What’s your favorite fic you’ve posted?
WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME CHOOSE A FAVORITE 🔪 i love all my children for different reasons.... we'll go with the shape of your body for now just because i really didn't know if i could write something like that, it was such an undertaking, and i've reread it in bits and pieces multiple times because it's so comforting to me 🥰
41. Who’s your favorite character you’ve written?
i have an insaaaaaane soft spot for fratboy jk from the spins. i wanna write something else with him SO BAD. i wanna give him a motorcycle 😩
50. How would you describe your writing style?
ashdfjkadf this is hard !!! i strive for realistic, character-driven, humorous, thoughtful, accessible, poetic, honest, and horny. so hopefully.... some mix of those 🤣
63. What was the hardest part of writing [LDOMLT]?
heavy emotional bits aside...... it's probably going to be writing the fucking grammys like i have any idea what the fuck goes on there LMAO 💀 gonna need to watch some youtube videos for research
72. What’s your favorite writing compliment you’ve gotten?
anytime i get compliments on queer aspects of my stories and specifically hear that it resonated with someone or allowed them to better understand/embrace a party of their identity, i just.... fucking melt 🫠 i've heard that several times with the shape of your body and it kills me every single time. it is the highest honor of my life 🙇‍♀️
74. Do you have a fic you wish got a bit more love?
babygirl lmao!!!!! justice for jk with his butterfly clips 😭 but i get it that one is uhhhh. deeply self-indulgent
77. Why do you enjoy writing fanfiction?
so many reasons! i love to connect with people. i love to capture my thoughts on the world and the human condition and how we interact with and treat each other. i love to make myself and others feel less alone and more seen. i love to manifest the shit i'm trying to find in my own life 😩 and of course i love to pay my own little horny artistic tribute to OT7 given that their art has done soooo much for me!!! 💜

Alright:
Adam x Lawrencij
oh boy. these mfs.
💊 Adam x Demise Headcanons ⛧
Tumblr media
base info(?)
💊 these two are very ???????? together ⛧ no really their dynamic is super "what the fuck" 💊 are they healthy? no. ⛧ are they a good representation of queer relationships? no. 💊 do they deserve each other? y. yeah. ⛧ because honestly nobody else should ever have to endure the misfortune of having to deal with these two 💊 the both of them are so deranged, they actually formed some sort of connection ⛧ they don't consider themselves to be in a relationship, even though what they have technically is one 💊 unfortunately they are both so hardwired to be depraved and selfish that if they stayed together for too long, the relationship is basically doomed to fail ⛧ if one gets in the way of another's goals they'll cut each other off without hesitation 💊 because in the end, everything they do is largely in their own interest ⛧ yet they do, somehow, genuinely love each other 💊 as a result they always keep breaking up and getting back together again ⛧ really, it's unclear whether that's a good or bad thing as they consider such feeling to be a weakness
affection?? in my household????
💊 because they literally are not made to love, they have great difficulty expressing such feelings towards one another ⛧ so honestly if they say "I hate you" they really mean "I love you" 💊 compliments are always backhanded because if one displays pure positivity they will literally explode ⛧ which means you get things like "I hate humanity, but you're so disgusting I don't think there's any humanity left in you at all 💖" 💊 they do manage to mutually display their feelings for each other properly sometimes ⛧ keyword: sometimes 💊 it means they're probably in a funny mood for that to happen ⛧ in many cases, it probably also means that one has something on their mind, and as much as they don't want to rely on each other they sometimes really do need to huddle up together
woo feel free to send in more rqs! Adam belongs to @sanityisforlosers Demise (unfortunately) belongs to me

THE PLANETS #3 MERCURY (IN THE HOUSES)
Sweet Mercury. Our baby celestial, dying to be understood. There’s more to little Mercury than meets the eye, so listen up.
If you take only one thing away from this shit, let it be this: Mercury represents an internal process - where Mercury falls points towards where you’re using your brain. Bullshit Astrology will try to convince you that Mercury shows how you communicate and how you express yourself. Yes, but also no. Don’t succumb to this basic ass understanding, people!! Mercury is deeper than this - literally. Mercury gathers up the goods and sets up shop inside your mf brain. Yes, communication and your ability to small talk stem from your thought process, but all that shit is secondary. Stick to the primary source you little history babies.
The best way to think about Mercury is to think about Venus. These two are peas in a damn pod. Why? They’re both judgemental. But. While Venus is your typical mean girl, Mercury just sticks to the fucking facts.
For example, take this given: the sky is blue. Mercury looks at the situation and says: okay, the sky is blue, the sky is not green. Venus looks at the sky and says: I love the color blue, green is fucking ugly good thing the sky isn’t green. They’re both making a judgement call, but Mercury’s call is a purely objective understanding, and Venus’s is based on a personal preference. Mercury sits in your brain and helps you differentiate between this and that; Venus sits wherever tf she sits and helps you respond emotionally to shit that you value.
Put another way: why does Mercury rule Gemini and Virgo? Judgement calls. Gemini is all about you discovering yourself. The Mercury influence there helps you differentiate between “you” and “not you” - Gemini goes out and does all these things to figure out who it even is and Mercury is behind the curtain going, “yes, you hit on something real there,” and “no, that wasn’t really you bitch, drop the act.” Same shit is happening with Virgo. Virgo is all about self-improvement - we need Mercury behind the scenes, making the “yes, this will move us forward” or “no, this will set us back” decision or else we aren’t improving shit. A Mercury judgement is objective - it takes in all the facts and makes a call. It’s not personal, it’s all business.
Mercury represents how we understand the world, mentally. Mercury is the sweet little computer in our brain that’s taking stock and running metrics and not giving a fuck because there are no feelings involved in Mercury’s process. Mercury is black and white, yes and no, this and that. No in-between. The only time Mercury goes from “right on” to “completely wrong,” is when it trades in objective analysis for personal taste. Stop. Leave the feelings to Venus. Mercury works best when it’s calm, cool and collected.
As always, particulars for the party people:
MERCURY IN THE FIRST (1) YES: these sweet freaks are unleashing the beast on their inner life - every thing that has ever happened to them getting analyzed to the point of no return; they believe they’re different than everyone else and they are gonna prove it. NO: one day decided all facts were irrelevant and took up permanent residence inside their own mind, made it their job to feel intellectually superior to everyone else.
MERCURY IN THE SECOND (2) YES: these sweet freaks are testing out every belief system and mental approach ever used to solve a problem, choosing the most effective ones, and thinking their way through every challenge they come into contact with without even breaking a sweat. NO: fucking rude, totally intolerant of everyone around them, deep-throating Traditional Thinking & Outdated Values’ dick for no reason - get over it.
MERCURY IN THE THIRD (3) YES: these sweet freaks are seeing straight though your shit, because they can find patterns in everything. When they’re not fixing every problem in their vicinity with practical solutions they’re adjusting to their environment like a damn chameleon good Lord where are they are they even still here? NO: using their mega-rationality to justify gross behavior, taking zero responsibility for their actions, denial level 10000.
MERCURY IN THE FOURTH (4) YES: these sweet freaks are getting in touch with their values, and once they do look out because they will not deviate from what they feel is Right. These deep, creative minds are hot-wired to find connections between all people, places and things. NO: too scared to figure it out, falling back on thinking that’s culturally/ socially/ religiously narrow-minded, RIP to their sense of self.
MERCURY IN THE FIFTH (5) YES: these sweet freaks are getting their fucking feelings out and everyone is loving it. Their sweet little brains are made to create and they are ready to relate, no one can express themselves like these bitches. It’s just the truth. NO: can’t just have a regular fucking experience because they’re too busy thinking about how they’re gonna sell that shit later, overly self-conscious, stop it you’re doing way too much.
MERCURY IN THE SIXTH (6) YES: these sweet freaks are a whole new kinda leader - their brains are totally focused on dealing with personal changes and social issues, crystal clear thinking let’s these babies soar through emotional shit with clarity and an organized plan. NO: True Life: Living Without A Backbone, self-sabotage level 10000, lacking the inner-strength to look at their shit objectively - get it together dammit you should be fixing the world.
MERCURY IN THE SEVENTH (7) YES: these sweet freaks just have a really strong mental approach to life, they’re lookin at all kinds of shit without getting in their feelings about it, they’re out here chatting it up, down to participate in life and always open to learning from other people’s experiences. NO: took it way too far, fucked around and isolated themselves in a sweet mind prison, one day decided different viewpoints were useless and totally lost sight of reality.
MERCURY IN THE EIGHTH (8) YES: these sweet freaks fucking love relationships (of any kind, don’t have to be human-to-human) - their brains are locked in on seeing past surface level shit and into the core of their connections, working through relationship issues is their favorite pastime. NO: one day decided you weren’t trying to cooperate with them and got fucking ruthless on your ass and/or completely lack the sense of self to apply their resolution abilities, let everything go to shit, then blamed you for it.
MERCURY IN THE NINTH (9) YES: these sweet freaks worship clear thinking and objectivity, they’re fucking ready to plan and discuss their goals, your goals - all the goals all of the plans all of the values - these bitches are going to write about them, sing about them, whatever. It’s going to be real and it’s going to be good. NO: the most closed-minded to ever live, picked the wrong hill to die on, bleeding out over some shit they don’t even understand, lost in the sauce.
MERCURY IN THE TENTH (10) YES: these sweet freaks can focus (I mean, for real, they will not be deterred) and focus they will on solving complex social problems and adjusting to meet the intellectual needs of their crew. These babies are quick as a whip and got serious intellectual versatility. NO: second-guessing every decision they’ve ever made, zero accountability for their social position, completely emotionally repressed mess.
MERCURY IN THE ELEVENTH (11) YES: these sweet freaks got intellect and they are not afraid to use it (to work through all kinds of cultural issues), on the look out for other smarties to check out all those beautiful, imaginary-but-hopefully-not-for-long horizons and ponder progressive ideals with. NO: never focused a day in their life, acting clever laughing everything off but actually dying inside and refusing to do anything about it.
MERCURY IN THE TWELFTH (12) YES: these sweet freaks are flipping the script and revamping every outdated collective ideal that crosses their mind - a healthy level of seclusion let’s these babies speculate way out into the future, so that they can formulate fresh social attitudes and actions. NO: Academy Award for Victim of Their Own Self-Created Loneliness, "what’s the use” oh my God shut up already and just try to change. Just try it.
Happy Charting, bitches. Unleash your brains.
XO BULLSHIT FREE ASTROLOGY

Heyo, so I love nothing better than reading through you posts about Byler hehe. I actually have a question about the post on DID disorder about Will etc...did you say in a part that you think he turns into the mindflayer?! Sorry if I’m completely off..I’m not very smart lols. Anyway if you do get back tk my questions tysm!!
Thanks :)
No . I’m saying Will’s alter named “will the wise” turned into the mf. Since perpetrator alters (who are agressive to the host and others alters/ people) start out life as a protector alter . This transition from protector-alter to perpetrator-alter usually happens between the transition of childhood to adolescence. And in d&d mindflayers are created by inserting a tadpole into a human (like what we saw in s1) .not to mention with st’s mf- he has powers resembling that of a d &d wizard . And the numerous other hints (to long to list here) connecting Ww to the mf that I mentioned in the original post .
I thought I made that clear. I’d REALLY recommend reading the original post again. But , the confusion probably lies in the fact I think the mf (unlike the other alters) “fronts” Will’s body. Alters when not in control of the host body are in the “innerworld.” some innerworlds are towns, cities,  different planets/dimensions etc .And the alters will have their own lives and adventures there (instead of being in the “outside world” where they control the host body.) often the locations of the innerworld are very symbolic to the host’s positive/negative experiences/memories. One person with DID can also have many “innerworlds” that look quite different from one another. Like alternate dimensions. It usually starts like a black void before it becomes these “innerworlds”. The innerworld is also where alters can talk to one another (along with npcs- human characters who aren’t alters but are part of the innerworld.) This is also where visually alters have the appearance they believe they have.
Ex) the host kid with DID (in outside world) is a blonde girl- but one of her alters is a red male demon-alter (yes ‘demon alter’ is a common type of protector/perpetrator alter ). Then in the innerworld that alter will look like a male-red demon (and can talk with other alters /npcs of hers). But when NOT in the innerworld- but instead “fronting” and controlling her body to protect her (in the outside world) - he’ll appear as just the blonde girl to outside viewers (but it’s still him controlling her body not the girl). Sort of like with what we saw with the mf possessing Will in s2!
Will doesn’t become the mf. The mf “fronts” / “controls” his body like an alter. I think most of Will’s alters escaped into the real world as tangiable people (similar to the x men storyline involving proffesor x’s son who had DID. That story even has a “shadow Phoenix (shadow monster)” who violently tried to force the alters to re-integrate back into 1 personality and also had alters escaping out of his head and into the outside world . Professor x’s son’s alters also had their own unique powers - like kali/el). In st- they mention professor x along with the dark Phoenix.
But Will the wise (mf) is too connected to Will’s identity to just ... leave and go to the outside world (unlike the other alters /Npcs who escaped ) . He’s like Will’s other 1/2 -who deep down actually wants to re-integrate back into Will.
I think because of Will’s powers ...some of these alters, npcs, and segments of these innerworlds came to life via “leaks”/ “opening the gate”. A “gate keeper alter “ is even supposed to make sure certain alters don’t front the body in the outside world, or go into different segments of the innerworlds (where they don’t belong) , or make sure bad memories don’t seep into other alters or the host who aren’t ready to remember certain tr*umas . Aka El isn’t doing the best job at being a gatekeeer alter by opening the gate and leaving it open/ never sensing it open (being too preoccupied over Mike).
Again I’d recommend re-reading the original post.
Cause I already explained all this in way more detail there. Hope that helps anon . :)
Also for future reference (not to anon) - please read the original post before asking me questions about my did theory. I explained the whole theory in detail there. It’s way too long to try and condense it here. Some questions I totally understand . But sometimes I get questions about it -that make it clear they didn’t even bother to read the theory (which just hurts my feelings) :(

alright everyone. after my rush of emotions after that season, i’ve had time to decompress, and make an actually cohesive list of my thoughts about the season. as you could probably guess - MAJOR SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!
first, let’s get the (much) shorter list out of the way. here’s what I enjoyed:
the acting. i want to mention how good millie was, because she was fantastic, but i almost feel like i shouldn’t, bc el took SO MUCH screen and plot time, that millie was given every opportunity to be good. she doesn’t really need any more special mention. otherwise - noah (with the little he was given) and sadie were particularly great. so were winona & david, but that goes without saying.
the elmax friendship. these two deserved it. and max bringing el out of her shell, showing her how to become her own person.... incredible. 10/10 i love them both
alexei. feels weird saying this, but he was probably the new addition I enjoyed watching the most. it would have been kind of cool to see him live past season 3.
an lgbt+ confirmed character. this one is a little.... tricky for me. as happy as I am that there is a queer woman written into the show... I feel like it’s a cop out to not have to confirm will’s sexuality. robin confirms her sexuality in less than a season, but after three with will, we still only get ~subtext~? still, this is a positive portion, so.... I guess that was something I was happy with
el moving in with the byers at the end. finally. this is one of the only things that is keeping me excited for s4. i guess i can only hope for there to FINALLY be some good willel interactions next season, but if this season has taught me anything, it’s not to get my hopes too high :-)
jancy ending s3 on a good note. parts of their storyline were fantastic, some were disappointing. but i really dug their dynamic, and the realistic struggle between the two of them, with nancy not really understanding jonathan’s class struggles, and jonathan not grasping the weight of the misogyny being thrown at nancy. their final moments at the empty byers house at the end were especially lovely.
el no longer being OP, and not being undefeatable. i love el. i really, genuinely do. i love her character, i love her traits, i lover her power. but the duffers were relying too heavily on her to constantly save the day with her powers, and it was happening too often. one of the faults of s2 was the constant thought of how easily el could’ve fought off all these threats if she was just there. i think it’s incredibly interesting to not only see her get completely worn out, but totally lose her powers. like mike said, i’m sure they’ll come back, but i want so badly for el to not just be defined by her powers.
a platonic m/f friendship. yes, one of them is confirmed queer, and they would’ve probably been romantically linked if she was straight. but i’ll take what i can get when it comes to this. platonic opposite sex relationships?? r i s e
now for the meat of my thoughts ~ what I didn’t like:
mike’s characterization. the writers completely made him into a dick this season. i get it, he’s a teenager, so he’s going to be an asshole sometimes. hell, in a recent post, I defended that, saying it’s good writing. but I underestimated just how awful he’d be, completely blowing off his friends for any chance for a second alone with el. I understand that he loves his girlfriend of course, but s1-2 mike loved his friends just as much. he was so utterly unlikable this season, that it seemed like he was a different character.
lucas as comic relief. this is so lazy, and i’m so angry for both the character and caleb, both of whom deserve so much better. he really had nothing to do if it wasn’t related to max, and the writers further reduced him down to a one-dimensional, kind of dumb, mediocre boyfriend, and that is not the highly intelligent, brave, kind lucas that i know and love.
will’s sidelining. god, this made absolutely no sense. noah fucking shined last season. he stole pretty much the entire thing. every critic, even those who disliked the season, had nothing but good things to say about his performance. furthermore, will has so much potential in so many different directions in so many aspects of his character. however, once he revealed to his friends that he was feeling the upside down/MF’s presence... they may as well have written out his character. he was sidelined almost to the point of background character. they gave him very little to do emotionally after that castle byers scene, and even fewer lines.
total lack of willel scenes. phew, if this wasn’t a bummer. will spoke a single line to el, and maybe one or two throwaway lines about her. if there is one thing most of the fans can agree on, it’s that will and el have the biggest connection to the upside down, the biggest unspoken connection, the most parallels, and the most intriguing potential relationship... and they really just said “fuck it” and didn’t have them interact at all. (that’s poor writing folks!) they better make up for this now that they’re living together.
amount of eleven scenes. i love her so dearly. i really do. and i’m so happy she grew into her own, not through mike or hopper. but the amount of el plot and screen time this season was actually difficult to watch. every other scene centered around her. so many characters and so much of the story went undeveloped, while she got way, way more than was necessary. additionally, take any kid’s plot (other than dustin), and guaranteed, it revolved around el. people were starting to catch on that the show was favoring her character more than even most shows’ mains.... and this season took it to a level i actual didn’t think it would.
the comedy. it was so awkwardly written. so much of it threw off the pace of the show. it seemed forced, and just... not very stranger things-esque, where the comedy was typically well-written and blended into dialogue.
the baddies. this was a huge letdown, too. i understand that the monster was large, but it was far less menacing to me than, say, the MF’s physical form. it had gore points, sure. it felt incredibly boring and predictable. in the same vein, i thought the ‘zombie’ style storyline of heather & co. would be deeper than that, but that was literally all it was. again... not interesting to me. billy was a rehash as well. the russians definitely had potential, but even that plot wound up being incredibly one-dimensional.
billy’s screentime. this was one of the things i was absolutely furious about. he got more screentime than the party (minus el) combined. they wanted for us so badly to empathize with him, to humanize him... i’m sorry, but you wrote a character that almost killed a boy for being black, that abuses his sister, and is a misogynistic asshole. abuse doesn’t excuse that, and it’s insulting to abuse survivors to say that billy inevitably became this way because of his dad, and that he deserves our uwus for it... and actually got el’s. he took screen time away from characters who desperately needed it, and that’s something i will never look at the duffers the same way for.
the scoops troop. I wanted to love erica... but i feel so indifferent to her. she was way too much this season. and robin. again, i love that she’s confirmed queer. and i dug her character more. but even then... i don’t know. i would have rather never had her introduced, and allowed established characters to have been better developed. and as a whole, the whole storyline of the troop was just what I feared: underwhelming and awkwardly placed.
high steve & robin. won’t elaborate on this too much, bc there’s not much to elaborate on. it just felt so wildly out of place and unnecessary.
that dustin/suzie number. what the hell was that? what could have been a 20 second joke was stretched out WAY too long and was bizarrely placed. just because you have an actor from broadway, doesn’t mean he needs to sing. and even if he does sing... you couldn’t have found a better time or situation? i literally was just staring at my screen in disbelief as that whole thing happened. entirely unneeded.
the amount of flashbacks. i understand most casual viewers wouldn’t remember certain things because of how long it’s been. but they literally put a recap at the beginning of the season. that’s what it’s for. and there were also plenty from like.... the episode before??? the amount they included took away so much time, that it almost just seemed like they didn’t have enough footage, and they had to fill their time stamp somehow. at some point, it just becomes insulting to the audience’s intelligence.
the overall tone. this season did not feel like stranger things in the slightest. off the top of my head, the castle byers scene and the byeler scene in mike’s garage were the exceptions. the first few episodes did have some moments. but overall... it kind of felt like some weird, high budget commercial or something. the charm, distinct aesthetic, and nuance of seasons 1 and 2 was non-existent.
the post-credit scene. there was some last-minute hype up in the reviews for this. was that supposed to be shocking in some way? i suppose this is more the fault of the reviewers who hyped it, but... really? a demodog? we’ve seen that before... i guess more the point was to show that the russians officially have some kind of technology for this. but still, an underwhelming reveal. more intriguing to me, was if hopper was the american in the cell he mentioned at the start of it. or maybe brenner?
the neutral:
that ending. on one hand, it was incredibly predictable. they literally placed an obvious shot of it in the trailer (easy to deduce that the byers had moved out, and that it was fall, so it was an epilogue scene). i was convinced that there would be a twist element they weren’t showing us, but nope. on the other hand, i thought some things were done beautifully (which wasn’t exactly a trend this season). as i mentioned, i loved the jancy moments. i really did like the hopper voiceover, although it was a little trope-y and heavy-handed... i still got a little emo, ngl. those goodbye hugs were somethin’. and, as i said before... el! moving in! with the byers! gimme
so uh... that’s it, i guess. no one really asked, but i needed to get my thoughts out. what did you guys think of the season?

top 10 berserk quotes?
lol this is a tough one. ok i’m trying to think of quotes that are good in and of themselves, bc it’s way too easy to pick lines that are just representative of scenes i like. but here goes.
10. “Not good enough, just two or three broken bones. If you wanna stop me, you’re gonna have to crush my skull or pierce my heart. Just like you, slug!“
That double whammy of badass and delightfully on-the-nose wrt Guts’ black swordsman monstrosity.
9. “The power to protect someone and the power to be with someone are different.“
So in part this is just selfish lol because it’s one of my defenses against the “Guts, protector of the branded girl” shit. But more generally I do love this as a distinction and it’s a theme that we see a lot of in Berserk - protecting/saving people vs actually being at their side.
8. “Those who die on the battlefield are not royalty, nobility, or commoners. They are the defeated, who die.“
This is just a really cool line lol. I mean it’s relevant to Griffith’s focus on equality from an interesting angle, like it’s great as an insight into Griffith’s mentality. But mostly it’s just cool af.
7. “Don’t talk to me in that same voice!“
It’s an obvious little line but to me it really sells Guts’ inner conflict and how agonizing this reunion is for him because he still loves Griffith. And it highlights the way Guts draws a distinction between human Griffith and Femto/NGriff. Also it was this or the “I’d forgotten my urge to kill” bit and I went with this for the sake of variety lol.
6. “Because people fear the unknown, they speak the same words to one another. Because they fear the unknown, they distrust words they don’t understand. Because they fear the unknown, they believe in a doctrine. Because they fear the unknown, they reject other gods. People must cope with their world because of the unknown. Because of fear, they label outsiders. Paganism. Foreign languages. Different races. All manner of social classes. Everything that separates people is here at this place. And so is that which proves that all this is mere child’s play. The ultimate unknown. Yet… why is it? My chest is filled with… no. Everyone here is filled with exaltation. What a radiant chaos this is!“
This is a nice climactic speech to usher in Griffith’s utopia, and a pretty good illustration of why it’s not going to turn out to be secretly evil lol. At the very most there may be positive and negative aspects, but this is p emphatically portrayed as positive. Also it’s just an epic speech to punctuate humans and apostles teaming up, and I dig this whole sequence.
5. “Even so… incidentally… I found someone I really wanted to have look at me.“
Oh Guts. This is the heart of Berserk right here.
4. “May we run rampant with hatred and wild joy just to crush with these fangs the true light that burns us.“
The true light that burns us is such a fucking line man. Guts wants to kill Griffith for the same reason Griffith made the sacrifice. To escape their feelings.
Like, yk how Ganishka and Griffith’s final confrontation had that whole high fantasy, spiritual connection between godlike beings who are the only beings that exist on the same level vibe? Complete with the whole apostle instinct to love their god, yk kind of like some takes on angels’ relationships to god/god’s light, yadda yadda yadda? And the climax of the MF arc has that grandiose line about “it’s within darkness that true light is discovered”?
Well I picked this version of the true light line because I swear all that intense thematic fantasy stuff is straight up just a metaphor for Guts and Griffith’s mundane, very human relationship. Like NeoGriffith’s magic aura that draws people to him is symbolic of what Guts felt for him, and he felt for Guts, completely without magic influence. It’s a not uncommon way of heightening the intensity + significance of a relationship/love in general by paralleling it to world changing fantastical magic stuff, and imho Berserk is playing completely into it, with Griffith and Guts’ relationship specifically.
3. “The life you couldn’t take by your own hand, the life of the person you loved the most and hated the most! You gave it to us! So that you could bury your fragile human heart.”
The purpose of this line is to tell us why Griffith sacrificed Guts, and I love it. I love going into the Golden Age knowing this. I love how the Black Swordsman arc sets up Guts and Griffith’s relationship so effectively. It’s so good.
2. “Man takes up the sword in order to shield the small wound in his heart sustained in a far-off time beyond remembrance. Man wields the sword so that he may die smiling in some far-off time beyond perception.“
Berserk.txt. I love it when a story lays its themes out for you like a welcome mat, and this is a great one. Swords as coping mechanisms is right here.
1. “Among thousands of comrades and tens of thousands of enemies… you’re the only one. You’re the only one… who made me forget my dream.”
This was the inevitable first choice lbr. It’s basically a description of my number one favourite romance trope as the immensely satisfying climax to an all around fantastic arc about these two dudes and their feelings for each other. It’s perfect.
Bonus:
“I’d forgotten that the night was this vast, this deep…”
especially paired with the title of the following chapter, when Griffith ruins his life: “Start of the Everlasting Night.”
I just cannot get enough of that light imagery in relation to Guts and Griffith, and vast, infinite night as an illustration of their lives without each other is ideal.
(Also just include Griffith’s torture chamber monologue in this list in spirit. I didn’t add it because there’s like 5 separate lines I could consider faves in it lol, and also it’s obvious and I’ve talked about it plenty before. But yk, that whole monologue is side by side with #1.)

* ↪ taehyung kim. he/him. male. ╱ i thought i saw jinsol lee getting questioned by the police. the twenty-one year old is in their second year at west bridge studying art. they were at manon’s party because he was there to retrieve his jacket from a previous hookup. do you think they had something to do with her death? + fingerprints of paint smeared onto an old t-shirt, books with wilted pages stacked into a lonely corner, flickering bulb of a street light down a deserted street.
muse tag * connections * pinterest
hewwo everyone .. sorry i’m late getting this up it’s hard to convince my two brain cells to work together!! i’m nine (21, cst where are my cst laid ease at) and this ... is jinsol?? ya that’s ... what i got ajdslfsj . i love namjoon. that’s my personality idk! ( my discord is joon's left tiddie#6106 if that works better for you! )
history
jinsol was born october 31, 1997 and grew up not far from wisconsin in chicago, il. he had two loving parents and ... unfortunately for them they gave birth to this headass. he’s always been a troublemaker, since he was in his underoos. like he just thrives when he can test authority & boundaries, and rebel even in the smallest way. he gave his poor parent such a hard time ajdflsjd pour one out for mr. & mrs. lee please! he was definitely that kid growing up that if another kid’s mom saw them playing together she’d be like “maybe we don’t want to hang around jinsol, billy!! we can get new friends!!” adsld. had a couple stints in juvie during his youth (mostly 4 being a lil thief and stealing .. a car ) and ran away from home TWICE (......just like TT). how he even graduated high school is a mf MIRACLE friends ... he has literally no sense of responsibility and no desire to be a functioning member of society !!! his parents moved back to south korea, their home country, when jinsol turned 18 and he doesn’t speak with them a lot these days.
he’s always been really skilled in one thing and that’s art. he’s a real art hoe. he was always very secretive about it during his school years and just kept his little doodles to himself, so now’s his time to shine!!
personality
+ optimistic, instinctive, ambitious, temperamental, insecure, stubborn, impatient, magnetic, energetic, active, adaptable, passionate, prideful, masterful, authoritative, frank, loyal, open, sincere, vain, arrogant, presumptuous, disdainful, courageous, brave, independent, sensual ( bratty & demonic too but i’m trying not to bully my own muse )
jinsol is messy and a mess. no matter what the situation, he puts himself and his own needs first and foremost. he thinks a lot of himself, very vain. he’s loyal to the people he holds close but has an awful way of showing it!! like he lies, cheats, & manipulates when it’s convenient for him but if he gets caught he’s just like “oopsies uwuw it won’t happen again!!” (spoiler alert: he probably will). he likes to keep busy & is very like ... obsessive with the things he’s passionate about?? his sleep schedule is garbage bc he’ll just stay awake until the wee hours of the morning painting or reading, etc. he’s so reckless like kid will do anything just for the thrill of it, esp cause trouble. i wouldn’t say he parties or goes out a lot but when he does it’s usually because he’s in a troublemaking mood and just wants to fly off the handle and stir the pot. he’s independent almost to a fault, he withdraws sometimes and won’t like ... open up to anyone or let himself be vulnerable which ... might be healthy for him probably adjlfskd
he’s not ALL bad though .. mostly but ... not all. like i said he’s very loyal, and when he loves with his WHOLE heart. he doesn’t do anything half-assed. he can be a good person to be around bc he’s generally positive and fun-loving!
he reads a lot and just hoards a lot of books, especially and MAINLY true crime. he’s really intro true crime and researching cases, etc. he loves horror movies too, but he’s a Big Scorpio Bitch so this is to be expected. he probably would’ve gone into psychology or criminology. despite being one of the most self-centered people to exist he’s very interested in the human brain!

First of all I'd like to start by saying sorry if my grammar or spelling goes to s*** . It probably means my hands were shaking from all the tears rn . I thought I would ask you this before I forgot .... I'm not the best at asking things but how come we can be so passionate to bands or people we have never met (mostly MFS) can you try to give me a little bit of an explanation please
Hello 😊
Sorry for taking so long to reply. I was on holiday and had been taking a break from Tumblr that whole time. Sorry again.
Hmm …. I would say that us passionately liking people beyond our reach such as celebrities, is all down to science. It’s human psychology.
1. You program your own brain
Don’t quote me on this but I read somewhere that if a person occupies 45% of your mind/time per day, you will develop a tendency to fall in love with that person 😍. Something like that 😁. You’ll need to read proper psychology books to understand this though. So, imagine the effect it has on our brains when we listen to a band everyday and watch their MVs or looking at their photos on a daily basis 🤔.
I don’t have band photos as my phone wallpaper or lock screen BUT I am sure the majority of my readers do. With our phones being the centre of our daily lives nowadays, imagine how many times that you look at those images of those band members every day!
2. Sensory pleasure
Humans are naturally stimulated by what is deemed pleasing by our senses. What we see, hear, touch, taste. With musicians, we get turned on by their music and when they also have the looks that we aesthetically find pleasing, the attraction gets doubled. I won’t underestimate the power of a pretty face or a hot body on our attraction towards a person (*1). Then when these musicians also do or say things we are pleased by, that attraction is magnetized even stronger (*2).
*1. I fell head over heel over Teruki Nishizawa after going to my 1st MFS concert. It wasn’t even my intention to be near him BUT he was 90% of my view from my standing position that night. He was all I thought about 24/7 for the following 2 weeks or maybe a month. Amazing considering he was the MFS member who excited me the least in their 1.0 phase. Also, the fact that he had grown out of his rather annoying childish phase and blossomed into a man now is a big plus point to me 😊.
Tumblr media
*2. SWANKY DANK’s Matsuo brothers are good-looking men. That’s an established fact for years but YUICHI Matsuo single-handedly stole my heart away from his brother KOJI simply for being super nice to me the night I went to SWANKY DANK’s show on my birthday in 2016. To these days, YUICHI remains the one I message to the most online and the one I think of first each time the band faces a hurdle in their path 😊.
Tumblr media
3. Searching for that kindred spirit
It’s human nature to look for a companion with similar interest or someone who can emphatize with us. With musicians, fans often find that connection in the lyrics they write. For me personally, as I get older, lyrics interest me less and less as I see each person’s life as being unique to that person. Those lyrics are the artist’s own story. Not mine. Nobody else can write my life story. If you have a strong core within you, there would be no need for you to find solace in song lyrics.
4. Not having a fulfilling life of your own
We all have issues in our life and for a lot of us, music and fandoms are our escape. The more we immerse ourselves in the escapism, the more we feel that we can alleviate those issues, albeit temporarily. I see a lot of fans like this online. Behind a fan account, there is the possibility of a depressed person running it.
Some fans let the escapism take over their lives and end up not being able to separate fantasy from reality 😕
i. No, your ships aren’t real no matter how much you want that singer and guitarist to marry each other.
ii. No, combining two band members’ names together in every hashtag, GIF, artwork and multiple fan accounts don’t magically turn the real persons into a couple.
iii. No, you have no reason to be mad when other fans call you out for being “fake” ….. (*insert a rock star name here) … because you really ARE “faking” being someone else with that “roleplayer” account.
Work on your issues first, find your inner happiness and you’ll find that music or any form of art is nothing more than what it is. A piece of art that you appreciate but it’s not your life and death 😊.
Channel that passion towards supporting the artists
By that, I mean buy their music and official releases even little by little. That’s the biggest gift you can give to them and in the long run, yourself when 20 years down the road, you look back at your collection and see it as the treasure from your yesteryears 😉.

[su_quote cite=”Demo Taped”]We’re only here for a fraction of a fraction of a second when you look at the whole grand scheme. Make your fraction of a fraction count. Make someone smile, keep good energy close, and always try to bring about positive change.[/su_quote]
-What inspired the track Insecure?
I have this tendency to push romantic relationships away based on my own insecurities. Insecure is about letting those negative thoughts about yourself blind you from the truth. The truth in the song is that the person really likes me. Insecurities can blind us. They can change our perception.
-How did it feel to work with your dad on this song?
It was a great moment. When we were recording his bass parts, it all came together so easily. We talk about music a lot, but it was great to talk musically and apply it to a song. -Recording it in a place that is filled with history and that is special to your family – How was it to record in the church?
It felt right wrapping up the song there. We recorded organ parts at my grandfather’s church. It was the last thing to go into the record which was pretty overwhelming. I was stressed out up until hearing Paul Anderson’s ideas and organ parts.
-Would you like to continue the legacy of your father and grandfather with your music? How do you think this can be done?
I definitely would like to. To be honest, I think and hope it will just shine through. That’s blood, you know? I think being honest and true to myself is the best way to go. It’s something both my father and grandfather have taught me.
-Of your upcoming EP is there a track that you just feel connected unlike any of the others? What is it about?
Most definitely! There’s actually a track about a moment in the past with my father. I have a very vivid memory of riding in the car with him and listening to music. The song is really just about that moment and how I feel it has shaped me.
-When can we expect this EP? Excited?
Very soon! It’s all wrapped up so I’m so ready for it to be out.
I’m really proud of it which feels great.
-How does it feel to know that a creation of yours is going to see the light? How was the process of taking it to this point?
It’s beautiful but also terrifying. I’m ready to release new music and show everyone what I’ve been doing. There’s also a vulnerability to it. You never know how people will receive it. I try not to think about that too much. You go crazy if you do. Making this EP was a journey and I’m so grateful to everyone that made it possible.
-Any live show experience that has stayed with you ever since it happened?
Once, during a show my table with all my gear on it collapsed. It was crazy. Someone in the crowd near the front helped me catch it. We got the table back up, but everything had been disconnected so it took awhile to get going again. Everyone in the audience was really cool about it. After that, I played the rest of my set and people were singing along. That was the first time that had ever happened. It was really special. All love to Ghent, Belgium.
-When it comes to songwriting, where do you get your inspiration from the most?
Before I get into writing, I try to write down all the questions and ideas I have in that moment in time. I narrow it down to the thing that I feel the most and start to write about that.
-Best place to sit and write some music?
Anywhere outdoors. There are a lot of great parks in Georgia that I go to. My back porch is always great.
-Artists that inspire/motivate you?
George Clinton, Junie Morrison, Herbie Hancock, MF DOOM, Hendrix, Dylan, Bowie, etc. 🙂
-Personal mantra/philosophy that you follow as a person and artist?
Treat everyone with respect. Don’t ever trick yourself into believing you’re better than someone. We’re all equal and struggle with the human condition. I believe it’s important to recognize that we all won’t be here long. I don’t say this with sadness. We’re only here for a fraction of a fraction of a second when you look at the whole grand scheme. Make your fraction of a fraction count. Make someone smile, keep good energy close, and always try to bring about positive change.
-How would you describe your sound?(It’s open to the old school lovers and also embraces your youth which is a unique endeavor)
It’s electronic music. I use a lot of live instruments and field recordings and weird sounds, but electronic is the base.
-What must you do before any gig always?
Call my parents.
-With people listening to your music and all the positive reactions, what keeps you grounded?
You have to find the constants in your life. Family is a big one. I have a few friends that I can always go to and know they will keep everything real with me.
-10 artists that you would recommend in a heartbeat?
Steve Lacy, LCD Soundsystem, MF DOOM, NAO, Elohim, Daniel Caesar, Mura Masa, Toro y Moi, J Dilla, Curtis Mayfield.

R&B/Soul: Melanie Fiona
INSTAGRAM: @melaniefiona
Two-time Grammy-winning Canadian singer and songwriter Melanie Fiona, or “the Singing Nurse,” as she’s referred to on stage thanks to the healing components of her music, unites elements of lyrical storytelling with soothing rhythms. Her soulful vocals are fueled by themes such as living with a higher purpose and becoming more self-compassionate.
Yoga Journal: Who’s your biggest inspiration right now?
Melanie Fiona: Oprah. She has always used her platform to be vulnerable, share her truth, and enrich and heal people’s lives. I also relate to fellow artists Jhené Aiko and Lauryn Hill—two very spiritually powerful women. It’s beautiful to see them share their perspectives and practices through their creativity.
YJ: Can you walk us through your daily meditation?
MF: I find myself interjecting quick moments of stillness and gratitude throughout the day. It can be as simple as saying “I am protected” as I get into my car or sitting still and just breathing for 30 seconds. In the evening, I meditate with my son before bed. We use the Simple Habit app, which offers quick guided meditations for welcoming sleep. We love it because it allows us to bond before bed, and it helps me teach my son about calming and meditative practices at an early age. I also use the app's meditations for waking up with positivity and enjoying rainy days.
YJ: What’s currently helping you to change and grow?
MF: Low-frequency encounters—a.k.a. the tough times. Practicing compassion and patience with difficult situations or people has taught me to be less reactive. A lot of discomfort and un-learning is necessary for real growth. These days, I’m OK with that.
YJ: What’s your go-to mantra?
RA: I am Happy. I am Healthy. I am Creative. These have been the guidelines for anything I do, especially in my career. If a potential opportunity doesn’t align with this affirmation, I will not participate.
YJ: What do you want people to take away from your music?
RA: That there is strength in vulnerability.

EDM: Krewella
INSTAGRAM: @krewella
Sister duo Krewella is a trendsetter in the electronic music scene. Yasmine Yousaf, 27, and Jahan Yousaf, 30, rose to stardom when their hit single “Alive” hit number 32 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 2013. Now, their new album “Ghost” broadens their independent spirits and worldly approach to art while channeling their liberated sexuality and creative experimentation. Expect references to Shiva in “Mana” and hear the sisters’ father sing a Pakastani raga chant in “Ghost”, a melodic framework for improvisation and composition used in the classical music of India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Krewella brings their yogic practices into their personal and professional lives through acts of service with their KREWmmunity, a service initiative that invites fans to work alongside Yasmine and Jahan with local nonprofit organizations, and in their daily meditations to center themselves, accept the chaos that is the music writing process, and to feel more attached to their roots.
Yoga Journal: What's currently helping you to change and grow?
Yasmine Yousaf: Breath work as much as possible. Pranayama techniques have been shifting around a lot of stagnant energy within and bringing up questions and thoughts that have been buried inside of me for ages.
YJ: What's your go-to mantra?
YY: “Dedication to self.” If you can put your time and energy into creating the best version of you, the most peaceful and grateful version, that will seep into every other facet of your life.
YJ: Who inspires you, your sound, and your spirit?
YY: Life in general inspires us. Our experiences on tour, the loneliness of a hotel room, the fullness of being with family, and the pain of loss that creates space for newness. Other mediums of art, too—because what humans can create from nothing is boundless and fascinating: love for self, friends, and strangers; connection to nature; and tapping into every living thing in this universe. The list is infinite!
YJ: Why does your spirituality make its way into your music?
Jahan Yousaf: I think often what is expressed creatively are reflections or manifestations of inner dreams, unconscious beliefs, memories, unresolved emotions, or different personalities within the self. Sometimes there is no logical explanation for how an idea, visual, vocal melody, lyrical juxtaposition, or symbol is surfaced. So many of our songs are written in a stream of consciousness and we honor the process of letting the spirit flow.
YJ: What techniques do you use to teach your loved ones about spirituality, mindfulness, and meditation?
JY: My words for others are often lessons for myself, as I will forever be in a student position when it comes to practicing mindfulness. Since I am my own worst enemy on this journey to my higher self, I find myself intervening with my own destructive habits and negative inner voices. Remember: be gentle with myself, patient with change, and guide your actions with love and respect.
YJ: Can you walk me through your daily meditation? Where do you like to be, do you use any props, what affirmations do you recite, how long does it last?
JY: I set a goal to practice 30 minutes in the morning, alone in silence. Most of the time my mind is chattering away, so sometimes I observe what themes keep surfacing, and analyze where the root of those stories are coming from. I do find that I tend to spiral into psychoanalyzing, so I have a personal mantra to re-center myself back to a complete blackout. Somedays I drag my feet into the practice, but when I come out of the meditative state, I am always grateful that I took the time to be with myself with no stimuli to experience rare moments of blissful nothingness.

R&B/Soul: Melanie Fiona

Q&A With Broke Face
1. Where are we talking from today? I am currently writing from the kitchen table as I've been gently nudged out of my home studio, dubbed Found Sound Laboratory, by my daughters and their friends while they have an impromptu jam session on drums, an old Casio (named Casios Clay), pink ministrat, and a cheap radio shack mic plugged into an even cheaper tremolo amp. It's polyphonic insanity that sounds better than anything I could spend months trying to perfect in GarageBand. 2. Where did you get your artist name from? BrokeFace is a name that came out one day while I was writing lyrics and I dug it. It's become a persona I can use to really get to the crux of something I'm meditating on. I personally might not be able to point out a very painful truth about me to myself, which I consider one of my responsibilities as a writer, but BrokeFace has that freedom and it's been quite liberating, if not a little harrowing. 3. Music-wise what are you working on right now? Are you currently promoting a single or album? I am currently finishing an album titled Dirty White. It's a mixtape of pieces I've been working on since I started writing my own music about 4 years ago. I've recently felt a very strong sense of what my sound is, which is something I haven't been able to grasp since I began to make my own music. As I was putting the album together, it was shaping up to be a chronicle of that journey. I was also able to find a through-line sound wise so, to me, the album sounds like one long song that goes all over the map but feels whole as well. I haven't figured out what to release for singles but Love Beast, Grasshoppers, and Swear Off are strong songs. 4. Who or what were the most significant influences on your musical life and career? Well, the Dirty White album is very much influenced by albums like Beasties Check Your Head, Radiohead's O.K. Computer, Kendrick Lamar's Damn, and to some extent Zappa and P-Funk as well as Prince. There's a Purple Rain cover on the album. As a child growing up in the Massachusetts suburbs near Plymouth, I first started piano then, wanting to be John Bonham, on to the drums, but slowly realized that John Paul Jones was the spirit of Zeppelin. Those discoveries, along with all of the music of the 50s and 60s (Rock (Chuck Berry), r&b (Otis, what?!), Jazz (Monk), country, (Dolly), et al.) got me wanting to learn all instruments so I picked up keys, bass, guitar and anything else I could get my paws on, including the accordion which made its way,  almost unrecognizable, on to a couple of ambient songs on the album. In the 90s I was taken over by all the music coming out from Pixies to GnR to INXS to cheesy stuff too (I'll sing Seal's Kissed By A Rose at the top of my lungs if it comes on so watch out). At the same time, my brother gave me the Zappa albums Sheik Yerbouti and Chunga's Revenge which blew my mind. Then, I heard Rage Against the Machine which lead me to Public Enemy and Tribe Called Quest and there was no getting me back once I start down that road. Today, I have really opened up to everything and anything. I'm absorbing music at an insane rate and it's awesome, there is so much good stuff out there. 5. Who are your favorite musicians? Right now I'm going back to school to get a music composition degree so I'm deeply entrenched in the classics. It's cliche, but JS Bach was insane. Insane. You listen to his stuff and you hear Metallica's One, you hear Wu-Tang busting out polyphonic layers over some harpsichord beats. It's still in everything. Other than that, I'm listening to Kendrick, TV on the Radio, Lizzo! (New album is so good), my girls turned me on to Mattiel, Nathy Peluso, Ariana Grande. I think Cardi B's tunes are pretty good, the production is great on her stuff. And sorry but I like LilNasX's song C7osure (damn you Spotify for your algorithm!). I would like to say I hate Charlie Puth, but I don't have much say to what songs get stuck in my head. I really dig MF Doom and everyone he worked with like King Ghidorah (Tic, Tic is amazing). Black Star May have an album soon so I'm mostly freaking out until that happens. Vampire Weekend's new album is good. Kevin Abstract is good. I've also been going through old tunes I liked as a teenager and seeing if they hold up - Smashing Pumpkins were so good... that C&C Music Factory, though... 6. What have been the greatest challenges/frustrations of your career so far? I think it was the point at which I was writing music and not knowing what my sound was so I was all over the place but not finding a connection between them all. I found myself asking everybody around me if something sounded good or just completely hiding it away and not showing anyone. Which was extremely frustrating, like I was ashamed of just being me. It's a much longer connection to many things throughout my life where I looked to others to approve of what I did, when they said I probably shouldn't do something that I was getting into, I made the mistake of listening all the time and not knowing the right kind of person to listen to, or most importantly, not finding my inner will. Dirty White is very much a turning point from that unsure area to the "oh, this is my voice, it was here all along" and just owning it, which is so fulfilling. Dirty White explores a great deal of having a voice taken away, whether I watch it being taken from people most susceptible to the overpowering and unequal distribution of wealth, or I watch white men, like myself, take their own voice away as they slip into their own protective skin color and economic place. This album is really my own meditation on my feeling of impotence when it came to bringing needed change to us as humans. I joke sometimes, get a white, liberal man mad enough, he'll start a podcast. I made an album. It doesn't fix everything but it feels like a start and maybe it will help someone, who knows. 7. As a musician, what is your definition of success? Getting up every day and being aware as much as I can be; aware of when I'm present, when I'm not, of what my gifts are and how I can cultivate them so they can help me and others. Awareness affects everything I do; writing music, hanging with my family, friendships, work. It puts the quality of life into whatever quantity of life I may have left. 8. What is your idea of perfect happiness? Being awake for all of it, all of what life is, whether it is joyful or unpleasant, which goes in tandem with the success question. Happiness is a very interesting term that I spend a great deal of time meditating on - how it's defined for the purposes of consumerism, which controls our lives and the hot button political topics of today; economic racism, women's control of their body, wars with oil-rich countries, etc. Maybe another album is in there. 9. What is your present state of mind? I always have musical ideas happening in my head but I have, like any other person does, a very full schedule where I'm not working on music, so that can feel hectic, but at least I feel, right? I made the intro song on Dirty White, called Crazy Diamonds, as a wake-up song for myself. Like, literally something to wake up to. It is over the top in its good feelings and positive reinforcement, which kind of prepares the listener for an album that gets into some deep, dark areas. Like doing some cardio before going into therapy, get the blood moving. I need that positivity reminder because I can get overwhelmed and just want to be cynical and binge watch Netflix. That thing where you 'just say positive things until you feel better' works for me and that's where I am right now; calmly hectic with cynical positivity. It helps to have a rhythm and keep busy at all times. This album is built around rhythm, the first song is morning or springtime and it works through the darkest part of night/winter to the very last song being the sunrise of the next day/return to spring. It may sound like it was super planned but I'm not that good, it really fell together in that way naturally. 10. What is your most treasured possession? Two gifts every day when I open my eyes. Also, I really like coffee. 11. What do you enjoy doing most? Writing music while my kids make an insane amount of noise around me. I use their sounds to make ambient beats and all kinds of craziness. When you can't have silence, make music from the noise. 12. Where would you like to be in 10 years' time? Making music and being aware. That sounds boring. How's this; living on an Elon Musk owned space station with my family and friends, floating around the earth like that Fhloston Paradise cruise ship in Fifth Element and we get free lodging because I'm part of the house band. Mos Def, relaxing from his retirement, is the band leader and a still-alive Tom Waits provides spoken word and other noises while I, like some crazy Dick Van Dyke a la Mary Poppins, supply beats and ambient sound with the Roots and Keith Richards as a backing band. Keith is in better shape than all of us and the ship is propelled by our music. That sounds better. 13. Where you @ online? For The Fences: Logic, “Everybody”
For The Fences is a series including speculation and hopes on an albums concept or direction based on the singles and all other information released about the album. The title comes from the old saying to “swing for the fences”, which means to put your all into something, to take the big swing, and hope for the best. Yet be prepared to look idiotic if you miss.
Tumblr media
The Pitch (The Setup)
With controversy (if you’re a Freddie Gibbs fan you’ll already be in the loop) Logic has given light to when we we finally get the release of his junior studio album, now known to be titled “Everybody” as opposed to the previously spoken of title “AfricAryaN”. In recent interviews with HardknockTV Logic has spoken of the album being a full dive into the talk of his race and how that has effected him in his life. With race being a hot button topic in America and with it being an undertone to most of Logic’s previously released music, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise. But how deep will this journey be? The release of the title track has given a peek into the forthcoming album. “Everybody”, the title track, carries the theme of experiencing racism from white & black people do to his biracial background. The overall sound of the record stays within the futuristic yet minimalistic production from his sophomore project “The Incredible True Story”. The connection to “The Incredible True Story” is one that i’m hopeful for. The discovery of Paradise never happened at the of True Story, but the cover of “Everybody” shows a world of futuristic prosperity, possibly the world that the people of Babel have been searching for since leaving Earth. Within the cover is also the main characters from True Story, captains Quentin and Will, feasting in the center. Hidden within the cover are other artists and people suspected to be featured on the album including Killer Mike, Khalid, J. Cole, PatrickStarr, Alessia Cara and Neil Degrasse Tyson to name a few.
Tumblr media
My Swing For The Fences (The Breakdown Of What’s Coming)
We see the return of human space travelers Quentin and Will, as they discover the planet Paradise. Landing on the world they had only dreamed of they are questioned heavily because they do not look like the people of Paradise. Quentin being white and Will being black stand out to the aliens on Paradise, becoming a metaphorical way of Logic to step in and speak of his race and how it has effected him throughout his life. As the story continues the aliens get to know our futuristic explorers and they realize that what they look like means nothing compared to who they are as people. With the barriers broken down Quentin and Will send a message back to Babel to have the rest of the remaining humans to come to Paradise to live together with the native people. The feature from J. Cole plays into the subject of the album due to his biracial background, while Killer Mike comes in to speak of the oppression of the black man in America. All singer features have little to do with the story. Neil Degrasse Tyson’s role comes into play as the leader of the human race and speaks to the Paradisan aliens from Babel, speaking of the high character of Quentin and Will helping to boost their case for freedom from the prison, and probably drops some knowledge ala Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince style at the end.
Tumblr media
The Crowd Reaction (Real World Reaction To The Album)
As far as real world impact this will be Logic’s version of “Late Registration”. It is the further refinement into the sound given to us from “The Incredible True Story”. More layered and complex production, classic level skits, and possibly Logic’s first big hit. With the ever changing music industry what is deemed a hit varies, but to this writer his hit is an iTunes starred track that leaves people talking, and eventually gets some radio play. Nothing along the lines of “Gold Digger”, but the closest one can get on a song from a concept album. Think Kendrick’s “Alright” as far as chart performance goes. This album will also push Logic more into the forefront of the conversation about who are the best rappers of his era, a toning down of the biting conversation that has always surrounded him, and a furthering of his fan base leaking into the realms of J. Cole fans. (Yeah, it’s going to get unbearable at times, but the loyalty will just further deepen, so we might as well get used to it.)
Tumblr media
Final Inning (Closing Thoughts)
The idea of what is coming is based on the same feeling the people of Babel have had since leaving Earth; an uneasiness covered up by hope. As a long time Logic fan i’d be lying if his overt positivity and nerdy image didn’t make me dry heave on many an occasion. That being said his music alone is well constructed and i love it. Yes the claims of sounding similar to Drake, Cole and Kendrick are easy to be backed up, but none of that matters to me if the music is good. And that is something Logic has delivered consistently, is quality. Great production, storytelling ability, and the crafting of good songs are the qualities Logic has shown as his forte’s, and these characteristics are what I as a fan hope are put into the limelight with the release of this new project. Logic sounds like no one, and yet everyone within his songs, and who knows, maybe this is all a game. Maybe Logic has crafted this image of positivity to make people weary of bashing him for copying Cole and Drake. This could all be an elaborate story equivalent to the one told on his albums. It’s not unheard of for artists to craft images of themselves aliken to Hollywood’s method actors. Shit, MF DOOM probably hasn’t actually performed since the 90′s for all we know. Logic’s deep nerd culture infatuation could be a key in decoding him as rap’s biggest anti-hero, the way DOOM’s Fantastic Four love has given him away. But who’s to know the real answer, and to be honest who cares. *shrug*
“Everybody” is coming May 5th, so on May 6th please don’t flood me with mocking comments.
