Simplified Summary :
When it comes to haircare, it truly does depend on each persons hair, no product is one fits all. If you like a product, and your scalp feels clean while your ends feel moisturized, continue use.
Healthy hair habits take priority over products. Keeping your scalp clean is number one, to do so depends on how often you wash. There is no right amount, it is okay to wash daily or weekly. If washing daily, use a shampoo that is lower in surfactants, aim for ones that say “okay for daily use”. If washing once a week, or twice, use one with higher surfactants (clarifying shampoo). If at any point your hair feels as if there is product buildup or the scalp is itchy use clarifying shampoo. number two is to condition frequently, you can condition before or after shampooing. It is helpful to pre-oil your hair 30 minutes prior to showering with coconut oil, coconut oil is the only oil proven to effectively enter the hair cuticle and can help protect against water damage. if you are going days without shampooing, spraying it with conditioning spray or oil on the shafts only is helpful. number three is small habits, dry your hair with a microfiber towel. keep shampoo only on the scalp and conditioner on the ends. squeeze out any excess water out prior to applying conditioner and let it sit for at least 2 minutes, longer if you can. use gentle hair ties and claw clips. put your hair in a protective style before bed. eat properly, get enough rest, and make sure you are hitting protein goals for biotin production. never brush your hair while it’s wet, and don’t over brush. use a leave in conditioner after washing, and avoid heat styling.
ingredients : shampoos and conditioners have a team of hair chemists formulating them carefully, so most haircare products are safe to use, but some are better based on added ingredients. ingredients like proteins, peptides, keratin, butters, oils, silicones, citric acid, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acid can improve hair. when choosing hair products, aim for ones that have these ingredients higher on the ingredient list
despite fear of silicones and sulfates, they are recommended by dermatologists and trichologists. the only ingredient you should avoid is formaldehyde. formaldehyde has different names, so avoid at all cost anything that says formaldehyde, methylene glycol, formalin, formic aldehyde, paraform, formol, formalin (methanol-free), FYDE, formalith, methanal, methyl aldehyde, methylene oxide, tetraoxymethalene, oxomethane, and oxymethylene. these are mainly found in special treatments and heat products, legally these can be called “formaldehyde free” if using it in a different form. (the ones listed above that are not verbatim “formaldehyde”)
affirmations
i love taking care of my hair, it’s so soft and fluffy. it never tangles and always is super shiny. it never breaks, my split ends always repair immediately. it grows so fast, inches every week. my hair smells so good and feels so bouncy ૮꒰ྀི⸝⸝> . <⸝⸝꒱ྀིა

Fanfic ask game: 🍄🔪🦴
Ask and ye shall receive @ruddcatha!
🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
Hehe, I am going to give three naughty headcanons for my favorite pairs! I am going to start with Hua Cheng and Xie Lian from Heaven Official's Blessing, and Victor Nikiforov and Yuuri Katsuki from Yuri on Ice. There are no "defined roles" for either of these pairings in the bedroom. They give, they receive, and who is top and who is bottom all comes down to whi is in the mood for what. I also believe that both pairs spend as much energy on aftercare and snuggling and tenderness after they have sex because the intimacy is as cherished as the sexiness.
For InuKag, I think Kagome was the one to instigate, and Inuyasha is shy and a little overwhelmed the first few times, in part because touch starvation --> intimacy is such a jump. Kagome helps him through and ultimately he loves sexy times, also because the post-sex snuggles are amazing.
(Seeing a theme? 😅)
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
That has got to be ancient forms of lube. If you're wondering, it's called carrageenan 😏 and it's made from seaweed.
🦴 ⇢ is there a piece of media that inspires your writing?
Oh there are so many. I don't know if others have the same style of "get into this media" way my hyperfixated brain can work, but it needs to have compelling characters and have an "incomplete" plot. Incomplete meaning not that it does not end well, but that there are holes in what the original story gave us that I desperately want to fill in. That seems to be the recipe for inspiration.
Thanks so so much for the Truth or Dare asks!

Rules every cat/dog owner should know:
Get your animals fixed(unless you want them to make some babies you get them fixed asap)
Indoor only. This is non-negotiable. Keep your cats inside and if you leave your dogs in the yard on a leash all day; congrats that's animal abuse.
Don't get your dogs groomed at Petsmart. As capitalism sucks the life from the front line workers, so does it for their pets. https://projects.nj.com/investigations/petsmart/ Groomers there are barley trained, barley paid, and overworked. When that happens animals die. Take your business to a place that pays its people and gets them properly trained so you don't end up losing your pet.
On similar lines, don't feed your pet anything from Purina. They are a garbage company that is owned by Nestlé, and they have had numerous recalls, lawsuits, and God knows what else. I guarantee they overwork their staff and that means things end up in your pets food that is potentially hazardous. Don't trust a company that doesn't care if it poisons children, bc they don't care if they poison your pet.
WET FOOD IS BEST. There are dry foods that are getting better with nutrition, but the majority of dry food is carbs and filler. Cats and dogs need meat. Vegetarian diets should NEVER be enforced on your cat/dog unless your vet explicitly says so.
WET FOOD IS BEST BUT STILL DANGEROUS!!! If you're cat food ingredients contains the words "carrageenan" then its not food, that's poison in a can. It causes cancer in cats and I can personally say that you do not want to find that out the hard way. Spend the extra money and get your pet real food. https://littlebigcat.com/carrageenan-a-common-pet-food-additive/
Your pet should NOT BE FAT. This isn't fatphobia, humans have many different body types and we know that humans can be fat and perfectly healthy. A fat cat/dog is not a healthy cat/dog, they are different from humans and their bodies have different needs.
Dogs are bred to do jobs. Let them do a job and they will be happy. Keep them from doing their job and their lives will be miserable.
Putting down a pet is hard, but sometimes necessary. Pets are your friends, your family, and they will love you unconditionally, but they are also animals, and it is vital to remember that nature is cruel and sometimes it is just the best thing for them to not have to endure suffering. Some people don't think it is right to play God, if that is you, get over it. Your pet doesn't believe in God, they believe in you. You are their God and you have to do what is best for them.
Don't scratch at the base of the tail on a cat. It's not comfortable for them and it is better to just pet their head(this is not all cats. Some do like it but in general stick to petting the head and shoulders).
Get your pets vaccinated. Dogs especially, because they go outside they can spread so many harmful things around and rabies is not a joke. Watch old yeller and remember there is no cure if you or your pet get it, you are going to die.
Feel free to add to this list. I wish I had it before I fed my kitty Purina poison. I wish I'd known more about cat behavior. If you have a cat watch my cat from hell and follow Jackson Galexy in YouTube. He can tell you how to make sure your cat is healthy and happy.

Food Crisis
Nutrition is really a science in itself, with countless theories, opinions and counter-opinions.
On New Year's Eve, the only day of the year where I eat unhealthy things like chips, I also eat peanuts. And I've noticed several times that peanuts give me flatulence and stomach pain. So I searched the net and found:
»
Peanuts are usually contaminated with mold toxins called mycotoxins and aflatoxins.
Too many peanuts also often lead to bloating and stomach pain.
If you regularly consume peanuts, you weaken your immune system and the risk of cancer increases significantly. Liver cancer and cirrhosis are often the result.
If birds find peanuts left in the field and eat them, they die after eating them.
The mold toxins in peanuts are far more dangerous than the residues of pesticides.
Just 1 mg per body weight is enough to kill a person.
«
Ugh…
This reminds me of how I get bloating and stomachaches from whipping cream. But I found out that it's not the cream itself, but the crappy carrageenan that the industry artificially adds so that the whipping cream doesn't form a top skin in the cup. However, the carrageenan damages the intestines.
THIS IS SO FUCKING STUPID! What bothers me the natural behavior of dairy products? Why do they have to add chemicals everywhere just to make it appear more homogeneous or more colorful! Something like that should be banned!!! Most of the stuff in the supermarkets is the very last shit that even animals wouldn't eat.
So I only buy natural whipped cream when I need it. For years I have even been baking my own bread from organic flour because conventional flour is totally contaminated with glyphosate and industrial baked goods are incredibly inferior anyway. It's really hard to eat halfway healthy, especially when you barely have time.
At least in the EU there is a strict labeling requirement for food made from transgenic plants, while in the USA pretty much everything is sold without any care, even food made from genetically modified plants. Corporations like Monsanto have done a great job of destroying healthy agriculture.
Currently, EU and Federal Republic of Germany legislation is making life even more difficult for local farmers. As a result, more people will give up their farms in the future, meaning we will have to import more lower quality food instead of growing higher quality food locally. It's such madness. They talk about "climate neutral" policies, but promote things like importing apples from New Zealand instead of picking them locally. The plantations are there, it's just too expensive to manage them! Sick, absolutely sick!
It is simply intended to destroy small farmers in favor of a few large agricultural corporations. At least we don't have this genetic engineering threat on our plate in the EU, but we do have enough problems.

It occurred to me I can post the rambling notes at the end of each fanfic chapter here on Tumblr and just link to the post so that I don't overfill the whole AO3 end notes box. And then I can be EVEN MORE RAMBLING if I want to be, without feeling stressed about it! *lets ADHD brain off the leash*
...anyway, um. I contained myself to a sentence or two with chapters 1 and 2, but it started getting out of control with chapter 3.
Notes for A Matter of Duty - Chapter 3: May have overestimated myself
Someday I will end a chapter on a positive note, but today is not that day. Tomorrow isn't looking so good either. It'll get better eventually, I promise a happy (ish?) ending and some comfort for all the hurt, it's just... going to get a lot worse before we get there.
My Google search history is a ride right now. This fic is spurring the strangest research. Have a sampling of the more interesting stuff for this chapter:
Ichigenkin: A video of someone playing the single-string zither that Ayato prefers.
Koto: The most *delightful* video of a koto master teaching a very enthusiastic, nerdy guitar player about the koto and how to play it. Their joy is infectious.
MA - The Japanese concept of space and time: A beautiful reflection on ma.
The history of lube: Genshin has elemental oils and they're too easy to incorporate into porn, but I found this fascinating. The equivalent period in Japan (Edo period / Tokugawa Shogunate) would have used tororo-jiru, a substance made from grated and mashed yams. Or clove oil (...I feel like that would burn? Mixed with camellia oil, it's traditional for lubricating Samurai swords and knives from tarnish and rust, so maybe the camellia oil makes it less, uh. Burning?). Before that, they used carrageenan from seaweed (also in China).
Japanese sex toys as portrayed in ancient Shunga: NSFW Edo-period graphic texts about sex toys in Edo period Japan. It's fascinating. I can't find any evidence of butt plugs in that period of Japan but they had them in Han dynasty China, and I'm sure Fontaine has had something like that for ages, so we're going with it for the sake of convenience.
A Beginner's Guide to Bottoming During Sex: I had an entirely different plan for this chapter, but then I learned it can take up to 3-6 weeks of consistent dilating practice to be comfortably ready to have anal sex. Plenty of people get there much faster, obviously, and Thoma probably won't take that long. But not being able to jump right to anal sex immediately made for better story anyway, and the fact that pushing too fast can injure you opened up story potential such as, well... what happened in the above scene.
At the beginning of the chapter, Ayato is practicing mindfulness meditation, and he's labeling thoughts that he notices before returning his attention to the object of focus (his breath). Specifically, he's practicing Ānāpānasati, because that's the kind of meditation I was trained in and know intimately (thanks, hippie Tibetan Buddhist-founded graduate counseling program), so it's easier for me to write about. Historically speaking, he'd probably be more likely to practice the Japanese Zazen meditation, or maybe a Zen version of anapana, but I'm unfamiliar with how it shows up in Zen; the version I wrote is probably closer to anapana in the Theravadan (common to south and southeast Asia) or Tibetan traditions.
Fanfic summary, warnings, and link beneath the cut before you decide whether or not you want to read it.
A Matter of Duty
"Back then, I had no choice but to accept the position I was in. While I desperately looked around for powerful supporters, I endured smear campaigns and attempts to exploit me. I had no other choice... I didn't mind what became of me, but my family... No one can ever be allowed to trample over my precious family."
How Ayato secured powerful supporters, endured exploitation, and weathered the storm of the years following the death of his parents... and how Thoma helped him contend with a bunch of self-serving, degenerate public officials.
And how, after much stilted fumbling and well-intended sacrifice, they learned the truth of one another's hearts.
Note: Mind the tags. More specific content warnings will be given at the beginning of each chapter, and the story tags will be updated as needed. All characters involved in any sex scenes are adults.
Rating: Explicit. It's porn with plot. Porn as a vehicle for plot, or plot as a vehicle for porn, you can interpret it either way. (I prefer: porn and plot as a vehicle for ~feels~)
Tags that I'm not actually turning into tags here, but it gives you an idea of what you're in for: Kamisato Ayato/Thoma (Genshin Impact), dubious consent but not between Ayato and Thoma, slow burn, sex ed, first time, self-sacrifice, humiliation, exhibitionism, oral sex, anal sex, bdsm, bad bdsm etiquette, rough sex, breath play, impact play, bondage, service kink, abuse, sadism, codependency, shame, guilt, jealousy, possessiveness, trauma, ptsd, dissociation, political sex work, or sex work for political maneuvering, or political survival sex work if that’s a thing, exploitation, blackmail, political machinations, political intrigue, no aftercare, maybe someday some aftercare, hurt/comfort, mostly hurt for a long time but eventually comfort, oblivious disaster gays, for such socially savvy people they are terrible at personal relationships, dominant Ayato, submissive Thoma, top Ayato, bottom Thoma, Ayato is incredibly parentified, Thoma has no sense of self-preservation, self-sacrifice isn't a contest but don't tell Ayato and Thoma that, it's like the snipe-the-check game at restaurants but with sex and politics, Kushiel's Impact, no really this was in my drafts for the longest time as Kusheline Thomato Fic, everyone's an adult in this timeline except Ayaka, she gets protected at all costs, original characters out of necessity, finding appropriate existing Inazuma npcs for some of these roles was impossible, no beta we die like ayato's parents
Full fic: A Matter of Duty on Archive Of Our Own
Chapter 3: May have overestimated myself: Ayato helps Thoma prepare for a meeting with a Kanjou Commission official. It doesn't go well.
Chapter 3 contains: sex education, first time anal play, anal fingering, unspoken D/s dynamics, teasing (verbal and sexual), sensation play, sex toys (butt plugs), oral sex, poor communication, guilt/shame, hints/allusions to past sexual trauma, crossing one's own boundaries / pushing oneself too far to try to please the other person (it's not really self-harm but it's possibly something in the neighborhood), feelings of betrayal and rejection

The Ocean AKA Biome Project
The ocean covers up Earth by about 70%
Ah, the ocean.
A place that is just water, fishes swimming around. And if you're lucky, you might see a beautiful and colorful coral reef.
Tumblr media
Characteristics of the Ocean:
The temperatures in the ocean are pretty low depending on how deep you go. Anywhere from -40 degrees Fahrenheit to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The coldest parts are the ones closest to the North and South poles.
The average precipitation of the ocean is 100 inches per year if it's average. Oceans also carry most of Earth's rain because the ocean is large and the water cycle runs quicker on oceans because oceans are made of water.
The wind in the ocean is pretty harsh because it's mostly happening on the surface, hence why fish tend to go with the currents of the ocean.
Yes, oceans do have seasons. Because it is caused by cycles in evaporation and precipitation that change in the weird thing known as the global weather cycle.
Plants in the ocean:
Seaweed is a plant near the surface parts of the ocean. The entire species adapted by evolving roots tough enough to avoid the ocean´s strong currents, but light enough to produce seeds.
Tumblr media
Good seaweed.
Mermaid's wine glass is an type of algae that is one huge cell that is native in the Caribbean and southern Floridan oceans. This species adapted by evolving to grow on small rocks and coral.
Tumblr media
Halimeda is an type of algae that is native in some parts of the Great Barrier Reef. This species of algae has evolved by becoming more tolerant of growing on dead plants and sand.
Carrageenan moss is a type of red algae that grows on the shores of Ireland, Scotland, and Britain. This species of algae evolved to persevere the cold weather of the British Islands by keeping it's roots within the rocky shores.
Animals in the Ocean:
Humpback whales are aquatic mammals that feed in the polar regions of the ocean and migrate to more tropical waters to reproduce. This species adapted to their environment by resting at the surface horizontally to prevent water going into their blowholes because they still need land air, even though they swim way more than they ever walk.
Tumblr media
Pacific Oysters are saltwater mollusks that are native in the Pacific coasts of Asia. However, they can also be bred in North America, Australia, Europe, and New Zealand. This species evolved to stick tightly onto rocks with algae via their suctions that they have on their inner bodies.
Tumblr media
An average Pacific Oyster
The Blue Tang is an blue and black fish that is native in the reefs of the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, to name a few. This species evolved a poison and brighter colors to deter predators from consuming it or any of its offspring.
The Red Comb Star is a starfish native to the East Atlantic Ocean near the Mediterranean. This species has evolved little combs that stick onto the ocean floor and catch mollusks at the same time.
Threats to the biome:
Yep, you already know the threats. But I'm going to explain them anyways.
A ton of plastic is thrown in the ocean. One of the reasons why is because of littering. Plastic is a lot more lightweight, but that doesn't stop the wind, rain, or people from throwing them into rivers, drains that lead directly into the ocean, or anywhere that isn't the recycling bin. So imagine a pile of plastic in the ocean with turtles chocking on plastic bags and fish eating the microplastics. This is what you see on the surface.
Tumblr media
This is only the surface level. The cute turtles and their babies could eat some of this plastic stuff and die!
Oil from man-made oil platforms can spill out into the ocean, or the oil could spill from recreational boats run by people too careless about the environment. This is a threat because the oil could suffocate the many water-breathing ecosystem and the community of different species living there. Don't believe me? Look up the Deepwater Horizon spill of 2010 on Google.
Why You Should Visit:
As long as you are wearing non-faulty scuba gear, then you are gonna have a good time. Because there are a ton of coral reefs with a community of unique fish living in the coral crevices. You can hear the whales sing their majestic songs and the dolphins chirp and play. You can even look at the little seaweed plants float with the current.

is carrageenan a bad ingredient in wet cat food that could cause inflammation or even serious health issues like cancer? I've seen this passed around as an absolute fact but I can't find any actual sources behind it? just a lot of assumptions and maybes.
I've never heard of this being a problem, and the only 'sources' I can find are a bunch of pet food blogs. Usually if I cant find the articles relating to it, and if they arent relayed back to a trustworthy veterinary organization, I take information like this with a huge grain of salt.
As far as I know, the carrageenan used in human and pet foods is safe for consumption. Its in a lot of things as a thickener. Its not an ingredient that I would be super worried about avoiding, but if you're anxious about it, there are probably alternatives out there.
There are a billion and a half things in the world that can give your cat cancer, or issues with chronic disease and inflammation. Your cat is probably more likely to develop cancer due to genetics or age than anything else. (Unless its an outdoor cat, then there's Feline Leukemia, which is literally a virus that causes blood cancer in cats. Just one more reason to keep your cats inside.)
Feed a good, balanced diet that doesn't 1. Advertise itself by comparing to others 2. Advertise itself by boasting that 'its what cats would eat in the wild' or 3. Advertise itself as a better alternative than the 'evil ingredients like grains and by-products used in other brands' (lookin at you, Acana and Blue Buffalo). If you're worried, talk to your vet. We don't always push for a prescription diet. Pet store brands can be absolutely fine as long as you're looking for the right one. (UNLESS YOUR CAT HAS A MEDICAL PROBLEM THEN ITS NOT FINE DO NOT FEED PET STORE FOODS IF YOUR CAT NEEDS A PRESCRIPTION DIET THEY ARE NOT THE SAME)

Are Sea Moss Gummies Really Worth Including In Your Diet? Let’s Know — Dr Bucho
Sea moss gummies made up from Sea moss, commonly referred to as Irish moss, are a sort of dietary supplement rich in Iodine, calcium, potassium, etc these are just a few of the minerals that are abundant in sea moss, a form of seaweed. Sea moss gummies are on the rise in the Diet world due to the buzz and appreciation from celebrities and people. But some Experts advise us to remember that sea moss gummies are not a replacement for a balanced diet and should not be used to treat or prevent any illness. so it is important to take into consideration that Before ingesting sea moss or any other dietary supplement, seek medical advice as All sea moss supplements are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Tumblr media
What is Sea Moss?
sea moss (Chondrus crispus) is found on rocky shorelines along the Atlantic coast in the British Isles, continental Europe, and North America. proper up arrow. It is a tiny, frilly or spiky seaweed that looks similar to red leaf lettuce, although it can be any colour from yellow-green to dark purple.
Similar to other seaweeds, algae, and well-known green sea vegetables, it is an edible sea plant. Sea moss can be found in several hues, including different tones of green, yellow, purple, red, brown, and black. The most prevalent species that flourish in the warmer waters are often red and are frequently referred to as Irish moss.
There is a long history of using sea moss for its alleged nutritional and therapeutic properties. As a food thickening agent, sea moss has been used for a very long time. Carrageenan, a thickening used in products like ice cream, cottage cheese, nondairy milks, and even infant formula,
Sea moss Nutritional Values
According To Food and Drug Administration, consuming four tablespoons (20 grams) of uncooked Irish sea moss provide:
Additionally, Iodine, a micronutrient needed for thyroid health and is naturally present in sea moss. Sea moss and other red seaweeds are rich in antioxidants, which are substances that help shield your cells from oxidative damage that can lead to disease.
Potential Benefits of Sea Moss
The supposed health benefits of sea moss have led to its widespread use. It’s crucial to remember that many of the advantages of sea moss in particular are anecdotal and devoid of reliable scientific support. It’s necessary to make it clear that additional study is required to prove the health advantages of sea moss.

2. May support immunity
According to one study, Atlantic salmon that consumed sea moss had a more effective immunological reaction than salmon who did not. Since humans and fish have quite different bodies, no study has yet demonstrated that the same effect occurs in humans. Still, a sound immune system is linked to a sound digestive system. Additionally, sea moss has significant levels of iron and antioxidants, both of which support a healthy immune system.
3. Supports thyroid health
Iodine, a vitamin essential for optimal thyroid function, is abundant in seaweeds. You can only obtain iodine through diet because your body cannot produce it on its own. However, most individuals get enough iodine from dairy products, shellfish, and iodized salt.
Compared to most vegetables, seaweed has a higher fibre content, which is advantageous because fibre has a variety of health benefits for the body. Some studies have shown that seaweed lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol and shows anticoagulant activity thus works as a blood thinner, potentially lowering your risk of developing chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease. It can also improve blood sugar regulation.
5. Enhances Gut health
There are both beneficial and dangerous bacteria in our digestive tract. Balancing out those bacteria is a crucial part of your wellness because gut health is linked to overall health. Seaweeds are a good source of live bacteria and fiber, which both support a healthy gut microbiome
There are other potential benefits of consuming sea moss but as we cleared above already that more studies are required to prove the health advantages of sea moss. one of the other benefits of eating sea moss is traditional fertility benefits
Side effects of taking sea moss supplements
When ingested in moderation, sea moss, commonly known as Irish moss, is generally regarded as safe for most individuals. However, taking a lot of sea moss can have a few negative effects, such as: Large doses of sea moss might upset your stomach and leave you with symptoms including gas, bloating, and diarrhoea.
Iodine, which is essential for thyroid function and is abundant in sea moss, can help with thyroid issues. Iodine overload brought on by consuming a lot of sea moss might result in hyper- or hypothyroidism.
Medication interaction: Some medicines, such as blood thinners and thyroid hormone replacement treatment, may interact with sea moss.

It's weird that labelling for carrageenan as an allergy and putting "carrageenan free" on products is what took off considering that it's a *significantly less common* allergy than the gelatin that it's meant to replace, which never has to have its own labelling

Friend told me that nobody in their right mind would drink condensed milk, much less in coffee, which is exactly what Hawks' coffee can is made of. "Sweetened condensed milk, sugar, coffee/flavoring, caramel coloring, emulsifier, sodium caseinate, stabilizer (carrageenan)" it's something for desserts, and I can't believe this is Hawks' idea of a lunch break meal.
Hawks coffee can sounds like it's an insult to coffee.
And I'm saying this as someone who hates both coffee and milk.

Cassia Gum Powder Gel (Synergy) with Carrageenan or Xanthan Gum
Cassia gum powder, derived from the Cassia Tora Seeds, is an effective gelling agent widely used in various industries. When combined with other hydrocolloids like carrageenan or xanthan gum, the synergistic effects can enhance the texture and stability of numerous products, particularly in the food and cosmetic sectors. This synergy not only improves the quality of the end products but also optimizes the cost-efficiency of formulations.
Synergy with Carrageenan
Carrageenan, extracted from red seaweed, is renowned for its excellent gelling, thickening, and stabilizing properties. When combined with cassia gum, the mixture forms a gel that is significantly stronger than what either hydrocolloid could produce alone. This combination is particularly beneficial in dairy products like ice cream and cheese, where it prevents syneresis (water separation) and improves the mouthfeel.
The interaction between cassia gum and carrageenan is particularly notable in water-based systems. Cassia gum acts as a stabilizer, while carrageenan forms a strong, flexible gel. Together, they provide a smooth, consistent texture that is ideal for vegan jellies, puddings, and meat alternatives, enhancing the structural integrity and palatability of these products.
Synergy with Xanthan Gum
Xanthan gum, a polysaccharide secreted by the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris, is another popular food additive known for its thickening and stabilizing abilities. When used in conjunction with cassia gum, xanthan gum enhances the viscosity and elasticity of food products. This combination is especially effective in gluten-free baking, where it can mimic the properties of gluten to improve the texture and volume of bread and other baked goods.
In sauces and dressings, the synergy between cassia gum and xanthan gum helps maintain a homogeneous consistency, preventing the separation of ingredients and extending shelf life. This makes it an indispensable combination for commercial food manufacturers aiming to meet the demand for high-quality, stable products.
Applications in Non-Food Industries
Beyond food, the combination of cassia gum with carrageenan or xanthan gum finds applications in the cosmetic industry. In products like toothpaste, lotions, and creams, this synergistic blend offers enhanced textural properties and stability against phase separation under varying temperature conditions.
Additionally, in the pharmaceutical industry, cassia gum and its combinations are used as a binder and disintegrant in tablets. Their natural origin and non-toxic nature make them suitable for use in direct contact with medications, ensuring the controlled release of active ingredients.
Conclusion
The synergy between cassia gum powder and other hydrocolloids like carrageenan and xanthan gum is a testament to the innovation possible in modern product formulation. This combination leverages the unique properties of each component to create superior products that are stable, cost-effective, and appealing to consumers. As industries continue to seek out natural and efficient additives, the role of cassia gum in these synergistic relationships is likely to grow, reinforcing its status as a versatile and valuable ingredient in a wide range of applications.
