#what can we know about thunderman

Fuck it, can you expand on your thoughts regarding What Can We Know About Thunderman?
Tumblr media
One of the funniest and most horrible things I've ever read partially because like 60% of it is just pages and pages of Alan Moore stating industry facts and names with the serial numbers filed off, and if you have enough comic book brainworms to be reading Thunderman in the first place there will probably be at least one or a dozen references here and there that will spring out of nowhere and hit you like a punch in the gut (the one I remember was the Jack Cole one). A lot of the stuff in Thunderman that reads as absurd funny parody or metaphors too stupid to be real are actual industry facts that Moore has knowledge of, and even the stuff that isn't you can trace a direct line of what exactly it's referring to or who exactly this is referencing.
This is a story in part about how horrible it is to be a sicko with comic book brain worms that is mainly understandable if you're exactly that kind of person. Besides all the references to real-life people and events, most of the modern stuff he's making up are still just as incisive and accurate because literally nothing changed, not even in regards to the movie paradigm ("At last he has attained a semblance to a religious figure. Can we stop now?"). Much of this is Moore dunking on Certain Industry Guys he probably knew and interacted with and indirectly bullseyeing on more recent guys, because a lot of these guys are the same. There are your extremes like the one con-goer here who is pretty much just Max Landis verbatim, but there's also so much that's brutally on-point for industry practices and writers ("What if we had Thunderman do something, and then something happened?") that you can fill in your own names.
It's also an incredibly personal and tragic piece because the core story of it, in between vivid descriptions of Greg Land's office space porn oceans and self-destructive daydreams and rolling catastrophes, is about a guy who deeply loves his art form, deeply loves the creators and artists who gave him so much for so little in his life, and deals with so much horrible toxic bullshit that the only way he finds to live, the only way he finds to not be complicit in the pigsty, is to leave it all behind and work the poison out of his system forever. Like he very openly talks about the protagonist leaving it all behind to go write the next big novel and writing that note, and the non-superhero ideas that will come after, as something that nobody is going to care about, but that he has to do. I don't think I could fully appreciate the sequence where he quits his job at comics and walks out of the office feeling better than ever, until I myself got fired from an incredibly stressful job that made a thing I love (video editing) into the bane of my existence, and no amount of money worries in the world could make me not feel at that moment like I was walking home to the sunniest day of the year.
It wasn't only how much better life was without comics that had startled him, but also how the comics business looked, viewed from outside. How small it was; how cruel and how ridiculous. All the warped personalities the industry either attracted, or else bent and fashioned for itself out of naïve enthusiasts who'd been expecting something else. He couldn't understand why he'd not bailed out of the business years ago, though in a way he could. Part of the answer was just plain human inertia, and part was the fact that, from the inside, comics people and their weird behaviour could seem almost normal.
Dan was grateful he'd escaped in time, though he'd admit that even that escape was qualified. Removing himself from the comics field was one thing, stopping thinking about comics was another. Constantly, he'd find his mind alighting on some decomposing gobbet from the mental garbage-tip of trivia that his career had left him with, when that was the last thing he wanted to be thinking of. He probably should have anticipated some sort of reaction - thirty-something years in any field would leave you with a lot of baggage, and especially an enterprise almost designed to be obsessional, like comics -
His fantasy that he could be a proper literary author, living miles from anywhere and shunning interviews like Salinger or Pynchon, had congealed over this last few months from idle dream to psychological necessity. He'd put his farewell dossier together, and it was published without eliciting much in the way of a reaction or response, but the important thing for Dan was that he'd written it. His lip was better and he could speak normally again, since, for some reason, having quit the comics world, he was no longer trying to eat himself alive. Dan was committed, now, to his new life, and there could be no vacillating. Change or die, those were his options.
And putting aside the fact that "Dan" is killed by the Vince Coletta stand-in and the story itself ends in a much bleaker and more horrible note, to me that feels like Moore being very honest, as depressing as it may be, that nothing else he ever does is gonna get the kind of buzz and following and money and praise that he did for his corporate superhero droppings, and he still doesn't regret one bit what he left behind, and he's going to make the weird magic lizard stories he actually wants to do until he dies and try to not think about superheroes ever again even though he will obviously never fully succeed. Not just because it won't leave him alone, but because it's a part of his life. He loves stories, he loves art, he loves comics, and if not now, he very clearly deeply loved superheroes once, and maybe he still does if he can put aside the sheer nightmare bullshit toxicity attached to them that he's dealt with. I'd even point to a recent occasion he did try just that, with the character of Captain Universe, who accomplishes maybe the only real heroic act in LOEG: Tempest when he stops an atomic bomb from leveling England and ends the story with his big heartfelt wedding.
Tumblr media
LOEG is the dead last place you'd expect Moore to place a heartfelt send-off to his superhero work, and much of it gets obscured by that asylum sequence where he savages existing IP capes and the farcical elements of the team and other criticisms at the genre, but it's there, and it's maybe the only story that has a happy ending in the book even. With Captain Universe, a character who has no real history, Moore is able to put all feelings for superhero IP and the big two aside and do this platonic ideal of a superhero and the creative possibilities and hopeful fantasy of a superhero. He's willing to poke holes in the guy and ruthlessly make fun of his shitty allies and villains, but LOEG affords Captain Universe an almost shocking degree of dignity (plus the existence of the canceled Superverse, which was going to be a LOEG-esque project with superheroes done with Rick Veitch tying in to The Show, showing Moore had plans to try writing superheroes again on his own terms even after everything). I think Thunderman in large part is about conciliating these feelings with a large degree of autobiography.
That's one emotional core of the story, but mainly I remember Thunderman for being really fucking funny. The EC Comics hearing. The porn ocean odyssey. Stan Lee Stan Lee-ing so hard he nearly gets killed by gangsters over it and one chapter detailing his transition from person to Character. Marvel was all along a CIA conspiracy to promote radiation poisoning. The chapter that's entirely dedicated to Moore stopping the story to riff and review the Superman movies. This books swings widly and it's an incredibly entertaining read.
And maybe the most horrible thing about Thunderman isn't in the way it's protagonist meets it's end or in the final chapter or even *gestures broadly at all of it*, it might just be the chapter before Alan Moore drops his Superman movie reviews, because with it comes the realization that yes, Alan Moore has been to Reddit, and has looked enough into reddit superhero discourse to be able to plausibly imitate it, which means he probably has sat through at least one argument about him too many. The stand-out of that chapter is the bit where he's riffing on Cavill's mustache fiasco and the DCEU, but it also includes some bits that now read as pretty perfect bullseye jabs at the MCU's current state of affairs.

It should be illegal for anyone to ask Alan Moore about DC Comics ever again, or at the very least it should be made a condition of the interview that the interviewer read  "What We Can Know about Thunderman" in its entirety before submitting their list of questions to The Original Writer.  Moore makes his feelings about the Big Two crystal clear in this novella, sparing nobody in this withering portrait of the emotionally stunted man-children who comprise the moral and artistic black hole we call the “comics industry.”  The names have been changed to protect the guilty, but anybody who’s been in comics fandom for a while can easily connect the dots to the characters’ real-life counterparts.  Nobody should ever ask Moore why he quit comics; the real question is why did he stay so long.

Perfect for me (Max Thunderman x GN!Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: Max Thunderman had his eyes on you since your friendship began but ever since your friendship with Phoebe you guys haven't been 'friends' necessarily. When he gets a moment with you, will he let his rivalry with his sister get in between you guys? Part Two: Imperfectly Loved Pronouns: You/Yours They/Them Warnings: None other than fluff to angst Word Count: 6.8k
Phoebe welcomed her friend, you, in with a bright smile and a short hug. “So, I was thinking, movie marathon with tons of snacks, some karaoke, and then we end the night with a sleepover!” The wavy brown haired girl told you, closing the door behind you as you walked in and sat on the couch.
You tapped on your knees with a smile to her, “Sounds great!” you responded, looking around the colorful home before turning your attention back to Phoebe. “I didn’t bring any of my stuff though, I didn’t know we’d be having a sleepover.” You told Phoebe honestly, shrugging your shoulders slightly but Phoebe simply laughed it off. “We can pick your stuff up later, no worries.” She comforted, putting a hand on your shoulder before going to the kitchen to prepare some of  the snacks the two of you would have. Suddenly she let out a rather loud groan, “Darn, I think I left my checklist in my bedroom, I’ll be right back okay?” Phoebe told you, already heading up the steps of her staircase. You yelled out an ‘Okay!’ as you watched her figure retreat upstairs, quickly turning back around and opening your phone to scroll through it in silence.
Footsteps were heard, echoing on the wooden floors behind you. You assumed it was Phoebe who had come back from her bedroom, so you turned around but were met face to face with Max Thunderman, Phoebe's twin brother. “Oh, hey Max.” You greeted, turning back around to sit properly on the couch, continuing with the activity you were doing.
Max slightly narrowed his eyes, “Hey…” He mumbled, going to the kitchen whilst looking at you suspiciously. “What are you doing here?” He asked, noticing the counter filled with tons of snacks. He tilted his head and filled his arms with about half of those snacks, planning to hideout in his lair. You were still looking down at your phone, not necessarily interested in whatever Max was doing. “Sleepover with Phoebe.” You said simply, not even looking up until you heard the rustling from the kitchen. “What are you doing?” You asked, raising your brow and turning off your phone. Max had snacks filling his hands, up to his chin. “Getting food.” He stated obviously, trying to walk from the kitchen to his tunnel that slid into his lair. You saw how Max was almost about to topple over from the amount of food in his hands so you finally stood up, “Are you going into hibernation or something?” You asked him, slowly walking to him as you noticed a few of your favorite snacks in the pile-up. “Yes.” The boy grumbled, trying to walk to his lair.
You shook your head and rolled your eyes, standing in front of him and grabbing the top portion of the snacks he had taken so he could at least see while he was walking. “Lead the way.” You told him, gesturing with your head. He walked only a few feet to a love seat type thing, he opened his tunnel by kicking a button on the wooden loveseat with a yellow cushion and matching pillows. The cushion opened up vertically, exposing a slide of sorts, your mouth was opened wide in shock. Max tossed his grouping of snacks down the slide, holding his hands out for the group you held. When you weren’t handing them to him, he looked up and noticed your shocked expression which caused him to smirk in pride. “You know, if you ever want a tour, I would gladly show you around down there.” He hummed, taking the group of snacks you held, throwing them down the same way he did the others. He then positioned himself to go down the slide, but he didn’t go down yet, he looked at you. “Do you wanna take up that offer now?” He asked, holding his hand out.
You contemplated it for a bit but your thoughts were interrupted by Phoebe coming back down the stairs, “Got the list!” She said happily, making it about halfway down the staircase before noticing you and Max. “Max! Leave them alone, go and be obnoxious somewhere else!” Phoebe sneered with narrowed eyes, walking to the bottom of the staircase to where you stood next to the tunnel. Max rolled his eyes with a smug grin, “Later.” He told you, winking slightly before sliding down to his lair, the entrance way closing.
Phoebe sighed, “Hopefully he won’t come back up here.” She mumbled, leading you back to the couch and turning on the tv. You sat on the couch quietly, smiling gently and shaking your head at the antics of the two siblings. Phoebe walked over to the kitchen where she left the snacks and her expression dropped, “The snacks.” She said bluntly, looking up at you, you turned your head in the direction of the entrance Max just went down into. “Of course.” Phoebe groaned, bringing the rest of the snacks to the living room table. “No worries, we still have plenty.” She reassured, though you didn’t need the reassurance, it was still appreciated.
The sleepover was successful, a night filled with music, movies, eating, and overall fun. You saw Max a few more times in the night, but it was nothing more than shared glances.
The next morning Phoebe and you said your goodbyes. Phoebe pouted, “I wish the night lasted longer.” She sighed, upset you had to go. You laughed, “I’ll sleep over another day.” You reassured, giving her a tight hug to which she returned. Max had entered the kitchen for a moment, walking back to his lair, he looked up to you and saluted a small goodbye, winking once again before going down the slide to his bedroom. You rolled your eyes at his exit and pulled away from the hug with Phoebe with a smile. “I will see you at school, stop sending me off like I’m going to war.” You laughed, scrunching your nose, hand gently holding your friends. Phoebe chuckled and shook her head, “I’ll see you at school tomorrow, be safe on your way home.” She told you and you nodded. “Bye.” You said your final goodbye, leaving the Thunderman household, making your way home.
Over the next few weeks, you had been at the Thunderman household for a good chunk of days during those few weeks. During one of those visits Phoebe had to leave in the middle of it, she told you to just hang out there until she came back from whatever errand she had to run.
You sat quietly, occasionally making small talk with some of the Thunderman family. You fixed Noras bow for her, picked a game for Billy to play, you said ‘Hellos’ to the parents. The only person you hadn’t seen pretty much all day was Max, which was surprising since he usually came up by this time.
You stood up and walked over to his lair entrance, biting your nail as you contemplated opening it. Unbeknownst to you, someone coming up the basement stairs noticed you near the lair entrance and smiled slightly, making their steps quieter. You were so in thought that you were unaware when that person came up behind you. They roughly placed their hands on your shoulders, “Boo!” The person said as you jumped practically ten feet in the air. You turned, clutching your chest, and trying to catch your breath. There was the perpetrator, Max Thundermand. “Max.” You sighed out, still taking deep breaths, calming your beating heart. He hummed, hands behind his back innocently as he tried to stop himself from laughing. “You’re at my entrance.” He told you, raising a brow, head tilting to where you stood. You laughed gently and shook your head, hand lowering from your chest, “I haven’t seen you all day, for all I know you could’ve died down there.” You teased, crossing your arms.
Max nodded, “True, true.” He spoke, looking at you to the entrance, then back to you. “You want to take up that offer of a tour?” He asked, noticing how Phoebe was nowhere in sight. You couldn’t control how you broke out into a smile, nodding quickly. He laughed, pushing the button and opening the hatch, “After you.” He spoke, hand extended to you so you can position yourself. You took his hand, stepping up the two steps before putting both your legs into the tube. You were a little nervous, sure you’ve seen him do this a thousand times but there was still a small pit of anxiousness in the pit of your stomach. Max noticed your hesitance and released your hand, whistling slightly as he stepped down behind you and gave you a push, sending you flying down the slide. He could hear your original screams of fear until they turned in delight, your giggles echoing up the slide to him.
He smiled to himself, getting into position as he grabbed the top of the hatch, “Move out the way, I’m coming down!” He yelled, sliding down, closing the hatch in the process. Blue lights flashed by as he made twists and turns, sliding right down and falling onto his bed, lifting his head and seeing you holding your stomach, laughing on the side of the bed. “Was it fun?” He asked you, scooting to the edge of his bed. You nodded, calming your breaths from laughing and looking around.
You looked around his desks and bookshelves, noticing a few experiments , gadgets, and other things. Max watched as you looked around, a small smile on his features. He leaned forward, hands clasped together, “So, what do you do around school now?” He asked, trying to make conversation. You looked back at him with an unimpressed expression, holding some sort of orb. You hummed as you played with it a bit, he didn’t mind. “You don't have to act like I'm a new person just because I hang out with Phoebe.” You told him, turning back around to put the silver orb back where you found it.
Max looked down, soon looking around his room again, “I know, but, she’s a goody two shoes, she probably rubbed off on you, I haven’t seen you one on one in months.” Max told what he believed to be his ‘former’ friend. You frowned a bit, turning and sitting next to him. “I know, I'm sorry.” You apologized, bumping shoulders with him which caused him to smile a bit. “I’ve actually been busy, me and Phoebe finally got a hangout for that sleepover because my schedule cleared up.” You explained to him, standing back up, looking at his bookshelf area to see if he had anything actually readable. He looked at you as you looked around more. He cleared his throat, bringing your attention to him. “Since your schedule’s free now, I can show you around a ton of other places too.” Max said, putting a hand through his hair, smirking. You rolled your eyes at him but smiled anyway, “Oh, can you now?” You asked blandly, putting his books back. He nodded, putting his hand behind him to prop himself up as he leaned back. “I sure can, I know all the best spots.” He bragged to you.
You walked over to him, crossing your arms, “It sounds like you're trying to ask me on a date.” You spoke, tilting your head and he flushed since you caught him. He didn’t change his expression or position, “And if I was?” He asked you, he was met with slight silence. He was a little worried due to that but you finally spoke up, “Maybe you should ask instead of dodging it.” You told him, arms still crossed.
Max was looking up at you since you were standing in front of the bed and he was sitting on his. He smirked, now being the one to roll his eyes at you. “Okay, okay.” He said, holding his hand out in surrender, “Would you like to go on a date with me sometime?” He asked, smiling at you, his cheeks a soft pink, his eyes soft. You smiled back at him, “I would love that.” You respond, ruffling his hair. His eyes widened, genuinely not expecting that response. He looked at you with another smile, this one a little dopier, “Really?” He whispered to you, standing up and meeting your eyes for a bit more proper eye contact. “Really.” You whispered back to him, biting your lip.
Max decided the best place for a date was an abandoned museum in Hiddenville. The objects were covered in dust, no security systems, some of the glass was even broken. That wasn’t why he took you there though, he pulled you up a ladder to the roof, carefully sitting the two of you somewhere stable. You had a beautiful view of Hiddenville, the warmth of the sun on your face and the cool breeze made it all perfect.
After your visit to the abandoned museum you guys made your way back to the Thunderman household, hand in hand. Once you guys returned, Phoebe still hadn’t returned, it had been hours, the sun was practically setting. You and Max sat on the livingroom couch together, Max’s arm around you as you talked about the abandoned building, the sunset, anything you guys saw, everything.
You smiled, looking up at him, him looking down at you since you were leaning on him slightly. “That was fun.” You told him, smiling gently, “I guess you do know the best spots.” You said, admitting that he stuck to his word. Max laughed slightly, “Wasn’t it cool? I knew you’d have fun.” Max told you, rubbing your arms gently with the tips of his fingers. You shivered slightly at the feeling, looking at the table in front of you, but you didn’t pull from his grasp. You inhaled slightly, catching the smells of grass, metal, and a slight whiff of chemicals. None of which was surprising you since you saw his bedroom earlier. “It was really fun, it was amazing.” You told him, “You’re amazing.” You said suddenly, not noticing how you made his gaze soften even more to you.
He took his free hand and played with your hand, “You’re nice to be around, you always are.” He said to you, his voice quieter than it usually was. You looked back up to meet his gaze, “You think so?” You asked, fingers interlocking with his. Max nodded his head, licking his lips slightly, “I can be comfortable around you, that might sound weird.” He spoke, his voice gentle, which you were not used to. You shook your head, enjoying this quiet little moment between the two of you, “No, no.” You reassured, thumb rubbing the back of his hand. “I feel comfortable around you too.” Your comment made the tips of ears turn red and you laughed slightly, taking your free hand and messing with them.
Max shook you off his ear and looked at you blankly but you laughed at his expression, leaning more into him. Max shifted a bit, “Would you like to do things like…this, more often?” He asked you, referring to the current position they were in and the day as a whole. You gave him a toothy grin, “More dates?” You asked innocently and he squeezed your hand gently, chuckling a bit. “Yes, more dates. Would you like to go on more dates more often?” He asked you, and you thought about it. You had done this earlier so he just raised brow, turning your chin to make you meet his eyes once again.
You pursed your lips, “How about this question…” You began, backing out of his grip to face him and talk to him more comfortably. “Would you like to date me and see how that goes?” You asked, the question causing Max to pause, sitting up a bit. His mouth opened a bit in shock, “Yes…” He whispered, but you acted as if you couldn’t hear him. You cupped your ear, leaning towards him, “What was that?” You asked, smiling wide as he pulled you in by your waist. “Yes, I would. I would love that.” He responded, his eyes shining once he met yours eyes. He brought his lips to yours, his soft lips meeting yours, he couldn’t control it when he smiled against your lips. “This is all I need.” He mumbled against your lips.
After a little bit the two of you pulled apart and you sat next to him, the two of you just talking. Soon enough, Phoebe walked through the front door, looking up and seeing you before quickly looking back down and putting her keys in her bag. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t expect that to take so long.” She said, walking as she looked down, “Do you wanna have a sleepover?” She asked, completely stopping in her tracks when she looked up and noticed Max next to you on the couch as you guys talked. The two of you looked back at her, but you had a message lit up on your phone. You frowned, scrunching your nose, “Sorry Phoebe, I gotta get home since it’s late.” You said, standing up and brushing yourself off. Phoebe pouted and hugged you goodbye over the couch, “Okay, be safe on your way home. Maybe next time we can have a sleepover.” She said, you nodding in response, smiling at her sweetly. She waved goodbye, walking upstairs.
You walked to the door, Max seeing you out. He leaned on the doorway, “See you next time?” He asked, his face bright red, but his eyes were dilated. You nodded, smiling at him for the millionth time that day, kissing his cheek gently. “I’ll see you next time.” You said, starting your walk home.
Max closed the door, holding his cheek softly, a lovesick smile on his face. Phoebe rushed down the stairs and glared at him, “Stay away from my friend.” She grumbled to Max, pointing to him menacingly with a glare before running back up the stairs. Max ignored her and went back down to his lair.
You and Max, after establishing a sweet relationship, had been hanging out more. You guys had been going on more dates, breakfast, lunch, dinner. It wasn’t every single day but, it felt like it, not that either of you minded. The two of you didn’t hide your relationship, you just chose not to mention it, it wasn’t either of you guys’s obligations to share the information of your newfound relationship.
Eventually the weeks passed, you hung out with Phoebe, you met with Max, it was a routine. Sure, you hung out with your other friends, but it was mainly the Thundermans
Phoebe had hung out with you occasionally, not as much as before though. She had noticed you saying you couldn’t hang out more and more so she messaged you. She asked you if you were free the upcoming Saturday and you responded with an energetic yes. You and her made plans to meet at Splatburger for lunch to talk and maybe arrange a sleepover the same day, just see where the day takes you guys.
At Splatburger Phoebe sat in a booth, looking around for you as she looked down to her phone, typing out a message. Within the same minute you saw across from her, “Hey there stranger!” You greeted, smiling ear to ear when the girl in front of you looked up. She gave you a toothy grin, “Hey!” She greeted, shimmying her shoulders. “It feels like it’s been forever.” She told you, looking at the tablet and ordering a drink. You hummed in response, nodding as you also ordered a drink, setting the tablet to the side. “You’ve been busy?” Phoebe asked, also setting her tablet to the side. You smiled at her, your eyes shining, “Yeah,I guess so. I’ve been hanging out with friends.” You told her, tilting your head ever so slightly. Phoebe's facial expression kind of dropped at the mention of that, but she didn’t say anything.
The waiter came by, giving the two of you your drinks. “Enjoy your meal.” He said, walking away to clean tables or go to the kitchen, whichever.
You took a sip of your drink, cheeks warming since the drink was so cold. Phoebe was messing with her straw, her expression looked as if she wasn’t having a good time. You knocked on the table slightly, “You okay? You’re zoning out on me.” You asked her, eyebrows furrowed, a small frown on your face. Phoebe snapped out of it and looked at you, contemplating as if she wanted to say something. “What’s wrong?” You questioned, a little worried since she was so quiet.
Phoebe licked her lips and made brief eye contact with you. She inhaled a bit, getting some air before speaking. “I noticed you and Max have been..” She paused, biting her lip to find the right words. “You guys have been hanging out a lot.” She said, finger slightly tapping on the table. You didn’t understand why her question was toned so strangely but you brushed it off, continuing to sip on your drink. “Yeah, he’s fun to hang with.” You said after swallowing, pushing the drink to the side, a small smile on your face as you looked over a bit, thinking about the Thunderman you had hung out with the day before.
Phoebe noticed how you looked and rolled her eyes, groaning. She leaned her head on the back of the booth, “Ugh,” She began, tilting her head forward to look at you properly, “Don't tell me you like him, I’ll barf.” She continued with wide eyes to emphasize her disgust. You looked at her with a raised brow, not saying anything. Phoebe almost choked on her drink, covering her mouth as she properly drank her drink. “Oh my god, is that why you’ve been ditching me?” She asked, fists lightly hitting the table as she tilted her head, mouth open a bit.
You were confused about this entire conversation, you crossed your arms at her accusation. “Ditching you?” You asked, shaking your head, trying to process what she was saying. Phoebe nodded as if it were obvious, “Yeah, you’ve been ditching me.” She said slowly, her mouth spinning into a frown. “Is it to hang out with him?” She asked, a little louder than her previous comment, hands clasped together in front of her onto the table. You dropped your crossed arms, placing them on each side of the seats. “First of all,” You spoke, voice harsher than you meant it to be, causing Phoebe to put her hands in her lap. “I haven’t been ditching you.” You continued on, closing your eyes to take a deep breath. “Second of all, I have friends other than you and Max.” You informed Phoebe, reminding her that you have plenty of other friends who wished to spend time with you.
Phoebe looked away, refusing to look you in your eyes. She blinked, nose twitching slightly, “I see you guys, when you hang out.” She spoke quietly, facing you once more, not looking in your eyes. “The museum, the park, even here!” She continued, listing it out. You tried to get her to look at you, facing yourself in her eyesight. “Okay? Is that really that much of a problem?” You asked honestly, your eyes soft. Phoebe looked in your eyes immediately, practically yelling out, “Yes!” Your eyes were slightly wide, you expected that response, you just didn’t expect her to say it so quickly. “Why?” You asked, breathily, shaking your head in disbelief. “He’s my brother!” She whisper yelled, face slightly irritated that you weren’t getting it. All you could think and say was, “So?”
Phoebe leaned back into the cushions of the booth they sat in. She took a deep breath in, sighing the same one out. She closed her eyes, “I’m sorry.” She mumbled, looking at you once again, with a more apologetic look. “I’m  just worried he’s hanging with you more to get under my skin.” She expressed, taking another sip of her drink, almost as if she didn’t just say that. You paused, biting your lip, eyes searching Phoebe's body language for clarification before resorting to just asking. “What do you mean by that?” You asked, looking down at the ice in your drink. Phoebe lifted her brow, messing with her straw, not looking at you once again. Not like you were looking at her anyways. “I mean that he hasn’t hung out with you until me and you did.” She told you, a frown on her face as she spoke. “You guys being together more is concerning.” She continued on, eyebrows furrowing and mouth cornering to the side. “He would do anything to torment me, he doesn’t care who he hurts along the way.” She finished off, putting her hand up, leaning on it.
Your eye twitched slightly, still looking at the ice swirling in your cup, “Why would you say that?” You whispered, looking up at her. She looked up at you as well, noticing your sad tone. You put your hands up on the table, putting them on top of one another. “Why can’t you just believe he wants to be around me?” You asked, your expression was unreadable to her. Phoebe sucked her teeth, rolling her eyes, “Please, Max has this whole thing where he tries to be ‘edgy’ or ‘evil’.” She spoke, nodding her head along with her words, “He doesn’t have a bone in him that's good.” She continued on taking another sip of her drink. She picked up the tablet to order food and a refill since she was finishing her drink. “I think he does.” You spoke quietly, still looking at her even though she wasn’t looking at you anymore. “I live with him, trust me, he doesn’t. Mom and dad say it’s a phase that will pass.” She kept speaking of him like you didn’t know who he was, like he was a stranger to you that Phoebe was ranting about. You shook your head, “I think that’s a bit much, I don't think he’s evil.” You spoke lowly, confused as to why Phoebe was acting like this. “He likes hanging out with me.” You told her, enunciating each word with narrowed eyes. Phoebe laughed slightly, “Sure…right.” She said, smiling a little, not noticing how her friend was looking at her.
You grabbed your items and stood from the booth, “If you’re just going to keep dogging on Max I think I’d rather pass.” You told her, a blank expression on your face. Phoebe put the tablet down,
“What are you talking about?” She asked, clearly confused, standing up as well. “I’m leaving Phoebe, when you want to be mature, come back to me.” You explained, leaving the booth and the restaurant, leaving Phoebe to stand by herself in Splatburger.
You left Splatburger, texting Max that you wanted to talk to him. He invited you to go over to his place, so you accepted, walking over to his house. You knocked on the door and Nora opened the door, “Hi!” she greeted, waving slightly and letting you in.
You said your hellos to her, walking inside, waving to Billy who waved back to you. “Hey!” He said to you, stepping up the stairs. You walked to the lair, opening the entrance and sliding down, the doorway closing behind you as you landed on Max’s bed like you have multiple times before.
Max was standing, putting a few items together. His ears perked up, hearing your entrance. He turned around and greeted you with a smile, walking to his bed and crawling on it slightly, engulfing you in a hug. Your hardened expression softened as you inhaled his scent, “You smell good.” You mumbled against his shoulder, slightly pouting as you pulled away from him. His eyes shined when he looked at you, “My shampoo does wonders.” He joked, fixing his position so he was just sitting next to you.You smiled gently at him, leaning on him, your mood slightly off, which he noticed. “What’s going on?” He asked you, his bright smile faltering, arm going around your shoulders to hold you close.
You sighed and pulled back, looking down to your hands then back up to his brown eyes. “I was at lunch with Phoebe and…” You paused, hands playing with Max’s blanket that you sat on. He urged you to go on, hands propping himself up as he leaned back slightly. His expression didn’t really tell you much, it was overall neutral. “She was saying some really bad things about you.” You continued, biting the inside of your cheek, looking down sadly. “Saying things like you’re going to hurt me, that you’re with me because you want to torment her.” You continued on, looking up and seeing how his brows furrowed and he was now sitting forward, looking concerned. You waved your hands a bit, “I don’t believe that though!” You reassured him, this comment making him sigh out in relief, holding his chest slightly. “She was just talking really, negatively about you.” You told him, frowning as you shrugged, unsure of how to feel about it all.
Max stood up from his bed and rolled his eyes, sighing. “Of course she was,” He said, completely used to it. “she doesn’t have a good time unless she’s showing her superiority to me.” He sneered, his face a mixture of disgust and anger towards his twin. You looked at him, your eyebrows knitted as you stared at him. “Don’t talk about her like that.” You told him with a frown, disliking that he was now talking about Phoebe. Max turned to you, eyebrows raised, his hand gesturing to you. “You just left lunch because she was talking badly about me!” He spoke in confusion, wondering why he can’t just state how Phoebe acted. “That doesn’t mean I want to hear the same sort of talk about her!” You said in the same tone, eyes wide.
The two of you sat in silence for a moment, neither of you looking at each other. After a little while, after thinking for a moment, you stood up, standing in front of Max. His eyes lit up as he looked into your eyes, searching them and your expression for how you felt right now. You smiled gently, that made him feel comfortable.
You took his hands in yours, “Max, Phoebe is my friend,” You began, the comment making his gaze flicker elsewhere for a moment, “and you are my boyfriend.” You continued on, wanting his eyes to stay on you. He looked back to you, squeezing your hands, “Okay, so… you choose me over her?” He asked, because that’s what he was getting from this. You shook your head which made him even more confused. “I’m saying that because both of you are trying to make me pick sides.” You told him, letting go of one of his hands and placing it on his shoulder. He shook his head, “No we aren’t-” He tried to start but you cut him off, “by speaking bad about each other, trying to make me think less of each one of you. That’s basically making me pick sides, pick who I think is better.” You told him bluntly, frowning. He tried to lightly shake his head but he realized you were right. “You hate when I hang out with her, she hates when I hang out with you. I hate when you guys act like this.” You continued, letting go of his shoulder and his hand, backing away. Max stayed quiet, trying to study you to see your next move. “Since you guys keep putting me in the middle I don't want anything to do with either of you.” You explained, going up his stairs, Max chasing after you. “Wait!” He called out as you walked into the living room past Nora and Billy who were throwing a football around.
You walked out the door without saying goodbye to the two kids, Max trying to get to you, leaving the front door open as he followed you. Nora and Billy stopped playing their game, Billy holding the football as they listened out.
In the end Max couldn’t reach you, you had gotten away. He cursed in his mind, putting his arms over his head, kicking one of the pots they had outside. Max walked back inside his home, rubbing his hand on his face. He turned and closed the door, forehead on the wood of it, his arm raising and his fist resting above his head.
Steps were heard near him, but he made no other movement. “Max?” His little sister's voice called out, this caused him to turn his body to her, arm still leaning on the door. He took a deep breath and put on a small smile. “Yeah Nora? What’s up?” He asked, biting the inside of his cheek, looking at the girl with a rather large bow in her hair. Nora looked at the door and then to Max, looking up at her older brother with a frown, that’s when Max knew she was going to say something about you. “They looked so…” Nora paused, trying to find a word, her brows furrowing, fingers messing with her palms. Max sighed, taking his arm off the door. He brought the back of his hand to quickly wipe the underside of his nose slightly, a simple action many do, but Max did it to muffle the sniffle he let out. “Sad? Upset?” Max gave ideas to the girl to what emotion might’ve been expressed on your features. Noras face was softer now, a frown still present, “Angry.” She told him quietly, the word caused Max to look back at the door. “Yeah, that also makes sense.” He sighed, putting his hands into his pockets. “Why does everybody look at you like that Max?” Nora asked, that question caused him to freeze. He bit his cheek even harder as he looked down, tears burning his eyes, “I usually deserve it.” He mumbled out, walking past his sister and pressing the button to his lair, quickly going down the slide, the hatch closing as his figure disappeared.
Nora watched as Max went down to his bedroom, the hatch closed so she was able to see her second oldest brother, Billy. He stood on the end of the staircase, a worried expression mirrored from Nora to his own face. “He looks..really upset.” Billy said, walking over to Nora, both standing and looking at the hatch. A piece of them hoped you would walk back through the door, or that Max would come back upstairs. Neither happened. Noras eyes shifted to Billy, “I think he was about to cry.” She told him, and the older boy looked at her with sad eyes, his lips downturned. Both of them showed pure concern for their older brother, not knowing what to do.
The rest of the day was passing and the sun had set in Hiddenville. Barb, the mother of the household, and Hank, the father, had been setting the table for dinner and calling each of their kids down to eat. Nora and Billy had sat at the table, and Phoebe was walking down the stairs to go eat. Brab stopped her before she sat down, “Phoebe, honey, get your brother and tell him dinner is ready.” She told her daughter, taking a seat and passing around some bread rolls to the youngest. Phoebe's eyes narrowed as her neutral expression contorted to one of annoyance, “Why do I have to do it? Besides, he never likes eating with us anyways.” She said simply, rolling her eyes as she continued walking to the table. Barb gave Phoebe a look, raising a brow and sticking her tongue into her cheek, “Phoebe Thunderman, go get your brother for dinner. Now.” Barb ordered, daring Phoebe to try to speak against it. The girl didn’t even attempt, she held her arms up in surrender before going down the stairs to the basement.
She was clearly annoyed with the fact she had to be the one to get Max for dinner, or the fact they had to get him at all. She opened the door and noticed it was dark, the only thing lighting up the room was the blue LED lights around the ceiling, some on the desks he had around, and in his slide. Phoebe looked around and saw Max’s figure hunched over the edge of his bed, the side furthest from the door and turned away from the doorway as well. He was looking down at something, for all Phoebe knew he could be working on something to prove how ‘evil’ he was, like usual. She knocked on the wall to make him aware of her presence, “Max, Dinner.” She said bluntly, but received no sort of response. Due to that she snapped her fingers at him, “Hello? Dinner, upstairs, come on.” She stated, rolling her eyes and dropping her hand once he didn’t respond, again. “Whatever.” She said, turning to go upstairs until she heard a sob escape Max. She turned back to face him, not moving further into the room. “Max?” She asked, softer than usual.
Max was on the edge of his bed scrolling through his phone, looking at the messages he had been sending to you all day that were left undelivered.
He couldn’t contain his sobs, he started crying the moment he got back into his lair, and he was finding it really hard to stop. “They were perfect for me, Phoebe.” He muttered out, “They were perfect, they are perfect.” Max whispered, eyes glossed over as he gently sniffled. “I like them so much, I…” He gasped out, hand to his nose to stop himself from breaking into uncontrollable sobs in front of Phoebe. “I love them.” He spoke, his voice cracking as he tossed his phone to the side, putting his face in his hands. “I loved them so much that I wasn’t thinking about anything or anyone else, just them.” He continued, his voice was raspy, scratchy. Phoebe's eyes widened, she was blinking, lost in his words. “Were you guys?” She asked, not finishing her thought, closing her mouth once she heard his sniffles start up again. He wiped his tears, clearing his throat, “You ruined the one good thing I had.” Max stated, blinking back more tears.
Phoebe stood quietly, the statement caused her to blink slightly in confusion. She didn’t know how to feel at the display in front of her, he’s never talked so openly about his feelings with her.
Max sighed out, messing with his fingers in his lap. “The one person who didn’t try to change me and actually liked me, actually listened to me and they’re gone.” He continued on, looking to the ceiling. “Max you…” Phoebe started but paused, trying to find the right words, “They were my friend Max.” She mumbled, kicking the ground. Max turned to her quickly, his eyes were red and puffy, he looked terrible, “They were my everything Phoebe!” He yelled with a glare, before hiccuping a sob. “They were everything to me!” He said, much quieter, his voice hoarse so it didn’t get any louder. Phoebe could see his eyes glossing with tears, like they would pour any second. She looked down to the floor, she didn’t know why she couldn’t look at him. “You talk about them as if they can’t be friends with you and be with me at the same time, that is exactly why they broke up with me!” He yelled, pointing to his phone that showed his lines of messages to you that were left undelivered due to you blocking him. He put his hands on his temples. “God, and I thought…” He started, choking up slightly, he sniffled harshly, clearing and calming himself for a moment. He placed his hands down, looking at her. “Thank you Phoebe.” He suddenly said, a frown on his lips. “For what?” Phoebe asked, her voice quiet as she slightly looked up at him, they made eye contact. He nodded slightly as he spoke, “For showing me which one of us was evil. Because you really proved that it’s not me.”
Phoebe was hugging herself, tears brimming her eyes. She covered her mouth, her face covered in shock. She tried to speak, “I’m-” She was cut off by Max turning back around, “Just go, I’m not hungry.” He mumbled to her. “Max-” “Get out Phoebe!”
She rushed back up the stairs, the family all looking at her, expecting Max to be following her. Phoebe bit her lip, blinking back tears, looking away from them, “Max isn’t hungry, I’m not either.” She said, running up the stairs to her room.
Barb and Hank looked at each other and sighed, shaking their heads at their two eldest children. Billy and Nora on the other hand, were even more worried than they had been earlier.

Tumblr media
In the thick silence of the spacious den, Max sat on the couch with his father, Hank, fidgeting with his fingers as Hank flipped through a magazine.
"Dad, I've been thinking.” Max awkwardly began, choking on his own saliva, "What other powers do I have? You know, like… other than lifting stuff with my mind, and setting things on fire?”
Hank looked up from his magazine, his face riddled with guilt. He’d been keeping a secret from Max for far too long… and, hearing the heaviness in his son’s voice, he knew that it was finally time to come clean. Preparing to rip off the band-aid, he took a deep breath and looked into Max's eyes.
"Max.” He sighed. “You do have… another power. Um… your mother and I didn’t think it would ever come up again, but I can’t do this anymore. I can’t lie to you. Your secret power is… the ability to get pregnant, gestate a very powerful life-force inside of you, and give birth to super-babies at a highly accelerated rate."
Max's eyes widened in surprise. "Wait, what? Are you serious?"
Feeling a huge weight lift from his shoulders, Hank nodded solemnly. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, this time. It's just... I know it's not the type of power you'd expect, and I was worried about how you'd react again. I didn't know how to tell you, Max. Your mother and I thought that it would be best if we just kept it a secret."
Max processed the revelation fairly quickly, as though it was something that he’d already experienced in a series of strange dreams. "So, you're saying I can, like, impregnate myself… and progress through a whole pregnancy in only a few minutes?"
Hank nodded again. "Yes. That’s it. Actually, you've had several babies before… and they’re all super-ing around, somewhere out there… but we had your memories wiped, so that you wouldn't remember the experiences.”
A mix of disappointment and intrigue clouding his thoughts, Max decided to put his unique ability to the test. He had always wondered what his hidden ability was… truly… and, while his father’s answer might not be what he had imagined, it was undeniably fascinating. With a mischievous grin, he couldn't resist the urge to impregnate himself on the spot, curious to witness the rapid transformation firsthand. He focused, feeling a surge of energy coursing through his veins. Within moments, his belly began to expand, swelling with life.
'I can feel it, Dad!” Max exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement. "I can feel the baby growing inside of me! Woah!”
Hank watched his son, realizing the impact this revelation had on him. He felt a pang of remorse for keeping Max in the dark for so long.
Max's disappointment transformed into a sense of pride. He may not have had the traditional powers of a superhero, or the great adoration and respect from the public that his father had, but he did possess the miraculous ability to bring life into the world in a way no one else could. And in his eyes, that was pretty cool.
"Max, I know it might sound strange, but I need you to understand that your power isn’t as useless, or frivolous as it may seem.” Hank explained as his son’s face beamed, his tone gentle. "If the Thundermans ever find themselves needing to recruit an army, you would be the guy for the job."
Max's eyes widened in realization. "You mean, I could create an entire army in a matter of minutes? Just by impregnating myself?"
“Exactly! Now, go to your room and give birth to that baby. If this time is anything like the last, your contractions are gonna start soon. Oh, and bring the kid back down here when you’re done. I think we’ll let you keep this one.”

Okay can we talk about something for a moment???
(Warning: Spoilers for the new Thundermans movie)
The Thundermans have a LOT of things they introduced into the series but never touched in again.
So I made a list of things I want them to revive or at least expand on-
- Billy and Nora (or even Chloe) getting their thunder sense. They only mentioned it in season 1 episode 13, and literally never talked about it again (from what I remember.) I want to see them expand on, use it in battle, and more importantly, I want to know if it’s just a Thunderman trait or if other heroes have that trait. Do villains have that trait? After all, they did reveal in the movie that superheroes and villains get their powers from a plant.
- speaking of the plant, is there multiple plants? Why was the thunderman family chose to keep it safe? How many generations ago did people get powers? Why those people? What created the plant?
- also I’m just saying it now, I need Max and Phoebe to hang out with Billy and Nora. Like we barely see them interacting. I’d literally do ANYTHING for an episode of Max and Nora hanging out, Phoebe and Billy hanging out, vise versa… I know there was like one episode in the series, but that’s only one and Max was being a dick.
- I NEED to see an episode of what it would be like if Max did take over the world. Like how he did it. Did he become a superhero to get a bunch of secrets and feed them to Dark Mayhem? Or maybe it’s just an alternative au when Phoebe failed to turn him, and said the original uncut scene instead, where she asked him if he’d rather be a hero or a villain. Obviously we wouldn’t be able to see them as teens, but maybe they could explain it in the beginning. Like maybe Colosso is telling a story. Like clue style.
- OH. SPEAKING OF CLUE, maybe a murder mystery episode??? I think that would be awesome. Kinda like the blue bean episode where max turned blue. But like. ✨murder✨
- So… I can’t be the only one that wants at least a little queer rep, right…? And I’m not the only one who thinks Max is a little… fruity… (as long as Jack Griffo is okay with it) give him a boyfriend or something PLEASE 😭
- Because Max and Phoebe are I think like… 25…. I’d like to see them attempt being adults. Key word: attempt. (basically I just to see them get an apartment and what not, and obviously the Thundermans are sad, and their siblings find it hard not having their older siblings in the house.
- And I think maybe even Chloe not knowing much about cousin Blobbin, their pop-pop, or grandma (I forgot what they called her) would be interesting as well.
- also what happened to Blobbin???
- anyway
- I’m just kinda writing stuff out
- I think they were already thinking about expanding on it, but since several of the Thundermans friends +Wong have powers, I’d like to see how they deal with keeping it a secret or if they somehow get the powers removed. Like maybe they use that ball thing they used to trap Dark Mayhems powers. OH. WHAT IF THEY ACCIDENTALLY GAVE THEM MAYHEMS POWERS IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO TAKE THEIR POWERS?!
- Okay this kinda goes into Phoebe and Max becoming adults, but I wanna know if they went to college or if they are going to college.
- also, Max talks about having Evilgram in one episode (maybe a couple), and I’m curious if he kinda just forgot about it or deleted it. He probably deleted it, but I think it would be cool seeing Max find Evilgram on his old phone and miss that phase of his life. Maybe that could even tie in with an evil Max episode.
- ALSO I WANT TO SEE MAX USING HIS GADGETS IN BATTLE. HE SPENT SO MUCH TIME MAKING THEM IT’S UNFAIR IF HE CANT USE THEM.
I’m probably missing a lot of small moments but honestly I’m just going back and rewatching some of the episodes and I’ve been kinda jumping around so i do t remember all of them-
Anyhow I think it’s awesome that the Thundermans are coming back to life (that is if the movie gets good reviews. PLEASE LIE AND SAY IT WAS GOOD EVEN THOUGH THE CGI WAS CRAP. THE PLOT WAS ACTUALLY GOOD.)

The Thundermans Return - Review
All right, as I already stated in Part 1, I really liked the movie. It was great how fast it got released, after they officially announced it back in 2023, less than a year later. I could even enjoy it with the mexican spanish dub (with the same voice actors and everything), as soon as it was available on Paramount+, which by the way was awesome.
Tumblr media
However, I think they had a few problems to work with all these characters in the same story, and this is what I think...
The art of nerfing
From time to time, they seem to be forced to nerf their powers for the story to go on and putting about 15 characters with superpowers in a movie like this, quite frankly, is not an easy task. We would expect to see the twins stronger and experienced than ever and probably they are, but its more likely that they tried to balance things up.
Tumblr media
I think this is like creating a Superman game, which by the way, is something people have been discussing for a while. You could try to make it perfectly accurate to how powerful he can get to be, which is practically a god, but this is just a lot to work with and that's why they need to nerf, either his superpowers or the city. Otherwise, the game would be boring.
Tumblr media
All right, let's get to it. These are my thoughts...
Losing a lost battle
First of all, when the family go to stop Blue Flame, the Thundertwins didn't even use telekinesis against him. Only close range atacks like heat breath from a long distance, which has no sense. Especially for someone like Phoebe.
What about Max's gadgets? All we saw was the jetpack but none of his new inventions, maybe a repulsor gauntlet or something like that. I know the Thundermans were meant to fail on this save, but I just think it could've been better executed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A lost opportunity
Also, when Max and Phoebe get caught by the V-Team, I would've liked to see an intense fight between them, maybe not as good as the one they have, later in the movie and then get defeated by a bad decision from one of the twins, for example.
Besides, they could've left a huge mess all around the headquarters, for President Kickbutt and her team to find and start to investigate the V-Team.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A missing fight
During the Thundermans house break in, again, it would have been cool to see a small fight before they show how Max and Phoebe were being tortured. Maybe even turning Dr. Colosso back into a human, to help them out or something.
The amount of destruction inside of the house with all those powers, would've been amazing. By the way, did you notice how Chloe walks out of the scene, right before the V-Team get in the house?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Prison break
Near the end of the movie, we learn that the V-Team had broken their parents out of prison, and again, a security camera shot of them taking a few guards down and breaking out of prison together, would've been enough for me.
We've only seen Metroburg Super Jail from the outside and the cells area, but that building looks massive. Also, did you see they forgot to add the Metrobug Superjail sign at the top of the building? This screenshot is from "Tunder In Paradise".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The band and the mothers hunter
Other things I would've liked to see, is Max and his band playing a song at Splatburger again and not only talking about rejoining the band. Maybe even having Gideon still dating Sarah, instead of trying to become the next Paul Finch, still obsessed with his friend's mother, I mean... come on dude, chill out! 🤣
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Weird relationship
And of course, how could this be a Nickelodeon show/movie, without the mandatory awkward scene? Dr. Colosso, a grown ass man turned into a rabbit, had been using Max's old suit as a sooting blanket. It was funny though.
I think sometimes the writers jut forgot that Dr. Colosso was not a talking rabbit. Oh, and by the way... what happened to his son, Balfour? They didn't even mention him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interesting origin but bad executed
And last but not least important, I'd like to talk about the reason I said in Part 1, that the Power Plant was a terrible idea.
But don't get me wrong. The origin of superpowers was interesting, but if Hank and Barb had this source of powers at home all along, then why didn't they use the blue seeds to go stop Dark Mayhem after Max took their powers away with the power-sapping orb?
Obviously, this was years before the movie came out, but still, it kind of ruins the moment, now that I look back and know what was really there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Budget and filming
Now, I don't know if the budget was pretty low for the movie to last only 1 hour and 10 minutes or if it was filmed in a short span, but maybe that's what happened, because I remember people saying the filming was over in less than a month, so that may be the reason we didn't get to see more cool stuff, but I don't know.
I'm just speculating.
Music
As for the music, I gotta say I really liked it, except for the V-Team's song. It was funny, but not my thing. The new version of the theme song played during the closing credits, was so cool and I don't know if you're gonna be with me on this, but the song we could hear during the final battle against Dark Mayhem, was great.
I even turned on the subtitles while writing this and look what it says in the background. Damn! I thought the movie was for kids 🤣
Tumblr media Tumblr media
VFX
And finally the VFX. I did have in mind that the movie was family friendly, so the special effects we see during the entire movie, are practically an improved version of the ones we've previously seen on the TV Show, which is cool most of the time, but sometimes... it doesn't.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thundercest
Did you really think I wasn't gonna talk about Thundercest here? Well, guess again. It would've been awesome to have another big hug between Max and Phoebe, just like the one we saw in "Thunder in Paradise", but we can't have everything, right?
It's weird, because Max and Phoebe share a lot of screen time together, but something feels different than the tv show vibes. Don't you think? Anyway, here's a couple pics of them together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Errors
I wasn't sure if I should share these two errors I found while writing Part 1 and Part 2 because this is not a movie rant, but it's kind of funny now that I think about it. So here they are:
Did you notice how they changed She-Crab's claw from one arm to the other?
Tumblr media
Or how Phoebe's footage was duplicated while blowing freeze breath at Dark Mayhem Jr.?
Tumblr media
And as Forrest Gump would say: “That's all I have to say about that”.
Colosso, the skater
Oh, wait. I almost forgot... All of the promos and posters had a small picture of Dr. Colosso on a skateboard. Is a deleted scene or something? I guess we'll never know.
Look at that. I wanna see Dr. Colosso performing a few tricks on a skateboard.
#SpingarnCut
Tumblr media
Ranking
All right, I rank this movie 8/10.
And this is it, guys. I hope I'm not forgetting something important. I've been writing Part 2 and this post for the last three days, so please tell me what you think about the movie, about my review and if you'd like to see more of The Thundermans soon.
How would you rank the movie?
Let me know all your comments.

“I think that sometimes people have this picture of me as this dark, gritty, dystopian guy. I do actually live in a dystopia - I'm in Northampton, which is a bankrupt and collapsed Middle England town - but humor has always been at the forefront of my work. Even in my grimmest work there's usually a few good jokes.
That story was a bit of a gift. I just started thinking about what the implications of entropy were, that if everything's going to end in a completely disorganised low energy state of freezing blackness and ruin, then that kind of implies that it must have started in a very ordered and complex high energy state. We know it didn't - or at least not the way that I've imagined it - but once I'd got that idea and I'd remembered about Boltzmann brains, I got a pretty good story out of it.
I love science for a lot of very worthy and respectable reasons, but the thing that I really love about science is the ideas. It doesn't really matter whether they're true or not - just as ideas they are often beautiful and useful. It is a fountain of just extraordinary concepts.
(…)
And I'd also had other vague thoughts going through my head. I'd been thinking about superhero costumes and neurological addiction since reading some interesting articles in New Scientist that seemed to suggest that a logo can actually imprint itself upon a child's brain, which I suppose shouldn't be surprising, that's what logos are designed to do!
Most superheroes can be reduced to just a color combination and a chest emblem. I had a strange image that was like something from an old Superboy comic, and I had no idea what it meant. It was an image of a normally dressed person walking in from the left of a kind of an archetypal 1960s comic book panel with a sort of a bland Midwest landscape and, on the other side, a fantastically-costumed superhero, and they're just walking towards each other as if to shake hands. That became the seed for the final scene. It was a really interesting experience writing that story.
(…)
You're retired from comics and you've talked about your bad experiences with the industry before. So why return to the subject now? Is this an exorcism?
That's exactly the word. I've disowned most of my comics work, including stuff like Watchmen, V For Vendetta, all of the ABC stuff, everything that I don't own. The only active thing I could do was disown it, which was painful. I put an enormous amount of work and energy and a great deal of love into all of those projects and it felt like a bit of an amputation to disown them.
At the same time, that was the only way to cut out the poison. I don't have a copy of any of those works. I'll never be looking at them again. And even thinking about them, all I've got is memories of having my intellectual property rights stolen and then when I complained about that, being typified as a crazy angry guy; "Alan Moore says 'get off my lawn.'" And yes, alright, I was quite cross, but I don't think without reason and also to suggest that I'm angry about everything is an evasion. It's a means of going, "Oh well, if he's angry about everything then we don't have to worry about what he says about the way that people are treated in the comics industry, he's just angry about everything."
And once these things have been taken from my hands and made into franchises then they can be given to anybody to do what they want with and that will somehow still be associated with me.
The comics medium is perfect. It is sublime. The comics industry is a dysfunctional hellhole. So why did I want to return to it in this story? Like you say, it's exorcism. As one of the characters finds in 'Thunderman' it's one thing to quit comics, but quitting comics is a different thing to being able to stop thinking about them. Writing this got an awful lot out of my system. It said a lot of the things that I'd always wanted to say but I'd never really had the right context to say them in. But doing them in a Kafka-esque satire, that worked perfectly. And when I say a Kafka-esque satire, what I mean is that Franz Kafka, while he was reading his stories to his followers and appalled friends, he would be laughing almost too hard to get the lines out. It's horrible, hideous, appalling - but the author was probably giggling when he wrote it.
You called comics "sublime" just then and it really does feel like, despite everything, you still have a love for the medium. Is that fair?
Absolutely. I hope that my love of it comes across; my love of Jack Kirby and many of the other artists and a couple of the writers of his generation. The descriptions of a six-year-old kid glimpsing a comic book rack could not have been written without being able to tap into my memories of what that was like, a first exposure to comics.
The medium can do anything. Its potential is still almost completely untapped. So it was attempting to express my love of the medium, some of the wonderful people who worked in it, and to also express my horror at the fact that this this little offshoot, the superhero genre, has become a monoculture that's in danger of taking down at least a considerable part of the comics medium with it when superhero movies finally aren't interesting. When that happens, my worry is that a lot of the comic shops won't be able to continue and a lot of interesting independent comics would perhaps not have outlets.”

NoveList Reading Challenge: December
Read a collection of short stories or essays by a non-American author!
Bliss Montage by Ling Ma
What happens when fantasy tears through the screen of the everyday to wake us up? Could that waking be our end?
In Bliss Montage, Ling Ma brings us eight wildly different tales of people making their way through the madness and reality of our collective delusions: love and loneliness, connection and possession, friendship, motherhood, the idea of home. From a woman who lives in a house with all of her ex-boyfriends, to a toxic friendship built around a drug that makes you invisible, to an ancient ritual that might heal you of anything if you bury yourself alive, these and other scenarios reveal that the outlandish and the everyday are shockingly, deceptively, heartbreakingly similar.
Illuminations by Alan Moore
In his first-ever short story collection, which spans forty years of work, Alan Moore presents a series of wildly different and equally unforgettable characters who discover - and in some cases even make and unmake - the various uncharted parts of existence.
In "A Hypothetical Lizard," two concubines in a brothel of fantastical specialists fall in love with tragic ramifications. In "Not Even Legend," a paranormal study group is infiltrated by one of the otherworldly beings they seek to investigate. In "Illuminations," a nostalgic older man decides to visit a seaside resort from his youth and finds the past all too close at hand. And in the monumental novella "What We Can Know About Thunderman," which charts the surreal and Kafkaesque history of the comics industry's major players over the last seventy-five years, Moore reveals the dark, beating heart of the superhero business.
From ghosts and otherworldly creatures to theoretical Boltzmann brains fashioning the universe at the big bang, Illuminations is exactly that - a series of bright, startling tales from a contemporary legend that reveal the full power of imagination and magic.
Life Ceremony by Sayaka Murata
With Life Ceremony, the incomparable Sayaka Murata is back with her first collection of short stories ever to be translated into English. In Japan, Murata is particularly admired for her short stories, which are sometimes sweet, sometimes shocking, and always imbued with an otherworldly imagination and uncanniness.
In these twelve stories, Murata mixes an unusual cocktail of humor and horror to portray both the loners and outcasts as well as turning the norms and traditions of society on their head to better question them. Whether the stories take place in modern-day Japan, the future, or an alternate reality is left to the reader’s interpretation, as the characters often seem strange in their normality in a frighteningly abnormal world. In “A First-Rate Material”, Nana and Naoki are happily engaged, but Naoki can’t stand the conventional use of deceased people’s bodies for clothing, accessories, and furniture, and a disagreement around this threatens to derail their perfect wedding day. “Lovers on the Breeze” is told from the perspective of a curtain in a child’s bedroom that jealously watches the young girl Naoko as she has her first kiss with a boy from her class and does its best to stop her. “Eating the City” explores the strange norms around food and foraging, while “Hatchling” closes the collection with an extraordinary depiction of the fractured personality of someone who tries too hard to fit in.
In these strange and wonderful stories of family and friendship, sex and intimacy, belonging and individuality, Murata asks above all what it means to be a human in our world and offers answers that surprise and linger.
Love in Color by Bolu Babalola
A high-born Nigerian goddess, who has been beaten down and unappreciated by her gregarious lover, longs to be truly seen.
A young businesswoman attempts a great leap in her company, and an even greater one in her love life.
A powerful Ghanaian spokeswoman is forced to decide whether she should uphold her family’s politics or be true to her heart.
In her debut collection, internationally acclaimed writer Bolu Babalola retells the most beautiful love stories from history and mythology with incredible new detail and vivacity. Focusing on the magical folktales of West Africa, Babalola also reimagines Greek myths, ancient legends from the Middle East, and stories from long-erased places.
With an eye towards decolonizing tropes inherent in our favorite tales of love, Babalola has created captivating stories that traverse across perspectives, continents, and genres.

Note
no clue how active you are here but sending you an anon ask because I'd feel weird about DMing you on twitter. anyways if you haven't read Alan Moore's short story collection Illuminations from near the end of 2022 you gotta. the highlight of the entire thing is when he stops the short stories and includes an entire like 250 page novel in the middle of it called What We Can Know About Thunderman. it's Moore writing a scathing history of fictionalized versions of DC and Marvel and fictionalized versions of the people involved with both companies. it's absolute peak.
Wait this sounds gas thank you!

20 questions for Fic Writers
Thanks for tagging me @talkstoself
1. How many works do you have on A03?
42
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
102,210
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently Miraculous Ladybug, Batman, and Maribat, but I've been known to dip into Doctor Who, Austin & Ally, and the Thundermans (though the Austin & Ally can only be found in the Internet Archive because middle-school-me was wild. And it has a different username so happy hunting lmao)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
5. I'm Gone, Gone, Gone, Gone 4. 1 - Sofa 3. 7 - Breeding Kink (Honorable Mention: Babies) 2. Buzz Buzz Bitch 1. Tag Teamed on the Tower (I really should have seen that cumming)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! Because I feel guilty if I don't Because I don't honestly get a ton, so I can't be overwhelmed by it. If I was a big name, maybe I wouldn't reply to as many, but I don't get a ton, so I find it easier to handle. This is not me fishing for comments, I swear. I'm just as guilty of not commenting (I'm trying to do better, but I don't always remember, and I don't always have it in me. I do always kudos, though). I write for me (mostly), but if you enjoy it, great! If not, to each their own. But never feel obligated to comment on my fics. I would rather you read and say nothing than feel stressed/guilty for not commenting.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
...hm. Considering the majority of my fics are either unfinished or prompted oneshots, I don't have a lot with angsty endings. I do have a lot with angst, though. Angsty ending? Hm. I'm going to have to go with I'm Gone, Gone, Gone, Gone.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Again with the ending thing 😂 It doesn't help that a lot of them are open-ended. And what kind of happy are we talking? Happy😁 or Happy 😏? But also you've asked one of the most indecisive people on the planet. The last one was easier. The whole thing is angst. (And I generally try to stick to happier/hopeful endings.) This, though? Pass. Someone else pick.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not on AO3? But AO3 is also bigger, and I don't post a lot. I live in my dark little corner on the interweb. I think most of the hate I've gotten was on FFN, and even then, I don't get a lot. Perks of writing for big fandoms, updating inconsistently, and generally having shorter fics. You get lost in the mix. (This is not a brag, but it's also not a complaint. I'm happy in my corner. Well...I'm content. Not ecstatic, not suffering.)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Lots of smut. Does it all get posted? No 😂 Half, no, more than half of it doesn't even get written. You can guess on the kind. I have things that I won't write, but I feel like those are pretty limited. If I don't know it and it isn't a limit, I would probably at least try. (Ex: my most popular fic is a threesome, which I've never had, with a hemipene, which I've also never dealt with (I mean in the toy sense, I know human people do not have hemis.))
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I don't write a lot of them. I'm just dipping my toes into writing them (for now, solely Maribat). I've had a shit ton of ideas for them (years ago I had one for a Doctor Who x H2O: Just Add Water fic, but that remains an idea in my OneDrive)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
If I have, I don't know about it. I'm a singular grain of sand in a whole beach of authors. I'm harder to find, and I'm certainly not well-written enough for it. (At least, not to me.)
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope :)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope. Sounds scary. :)
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
As a general life rule, I don't have favorites lmao. Mostly because I'm indecisive as hell. Minimally because then something will be left out.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Gonna steal TalksToSelf's answer and go with: All of them 😭
16. What are your writing strengths?
Porn. Porn and Depression. Angst. Occasionally fluff. Mostly Porn, though.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Flow. Word variation. Consistency. Inspiration/Motivation. I could go on, but those are enough for now.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Mostly, I'll write in italics/bold/(not quotes but I'm blanking... the two different apostrophes???)'these' and indicate what it was spoken in, but if it's a singular word/phrase, like a nickname, I normally just use the word itself, with an explanation for it at some point in the fic.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Austin & Ally
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
I do not have a favorite child. I love and hate them all equally.
No pressure tagging @hamsteriffic @miraculouslymundane @littlemourningstar @izanae @boldlyanxious ... I'm done. Someone else take over tagging people.

Since I’m thinking about it: Recent reading I’ve done:
Everyone always seems to really love Discworld so I gave it a shot last month. Per popular suggestion I started with Mort and really liked it! The immediate sequel I didn’t care for as much but it was still good. I went back to start from book 1 in release order and the first one is pretty rough, the second one is a little rough, hopefully the third will be basically smooth. (And then Mort is the 4th and I know it’s smooth sailing from there)
A year (two? three? idk) ago I read China Mieville’s Perdido Street Station and it was a good book saddled with a bad author. Despite this, I recently took a chance on a collection of his short stories and they’re a supremely mixed bag. Some good ones some very bad ones. Only halfway through at the moment and it’s picking up in quality a little.
Earlier this year I read Alan Moore’s Illuminations (more short stories) and it was really, really good mostly. A couple of the stories were distasteful or lousy but none missed completely. Halfway through the book, you hit a “short story” that’s actually a full 200+ page novella, covering a multi-decade fictionalized overview of the comics industry’s history - What We Can Know About Thunderman. Really good, though more as a series of vignettes than as a cohesive story.
Devon and I checked out a local book club last month and read a #1 Ladies’ Detective Agency book for it… it’s a slice-of-life story set in Botswana written by a white, English, legal professor who was born in an English colony in Zimbabwe and I will charitably describe it as appalling when read with the author’s background in mind. The book club’s next book was John Grisham’s Sparring Partners which I finished yesterday and liked considerably more.
I also re-read (listened to) the first Dirk Gently book and this time around none of it made any sense… until I realized I’d accidentally found an abridged version. Oops.
I’m still working on the Mieville short stories… after that I have a short story collection by Cixin Liu that I’m sooooooo excited for

i   just   rewatched   the   crossover   episode   between   the   thundermans   and   henry   danger   "danger   &   thunder"   and   there   are   so   many   reasons   why   that   crossover   is   a   failure   and   just   utterly   wrong,   i   don't   even   know   where   to   begin   lol
first   of   all,   captain   man   should   not   be   able   to   move,   let   alone   use   his   superstrength   once   frozen.   you   are   literal   solid   ice.   physically   and   mentally   you   have   been   turned   to   stone.   you   cannot   break   out   of   it   because   your   powers   are   frozen   WITH   you   lmao   i   would   cut   them   some   slack   on   this   issue   in   particular   because   it's   a   mistake   the   thunderman   writers   have   made   before   too   when   they   had   nora   use   her   heat   vision   to   unfreeze   herself   even   though   it   wouldn't   have   worked   since   her   eyes   were   frozen,   but   it's   a   recurrent   problem   throughout   the   episode   to   the   point   it   becomes   impossible   to   ignore   that   the   writers   of   henry   danger   not   only   toned   down   but   practically   ERASED   the   twins'   superpowers   and   abilities   in   order   not   to   make   captain   man   and   kid   danger   look   absolutely   useless   in   their   own   tv   show   next   to   thundergirl   and   max.
you   can   tell   max's   plot   wasn't   really   thought   of   at   all   because   telekinesis   already   contains   the   ability   to   do   what   the   weapon   he   wanted   was   meant   to   do   in   the   first   place   lmfao   and   again,   he   could   have   easily   stolen   said   weapon   with   telekinesis   without   having   to   lift   a   single   finger   and   waltzed   out   of   the   villains   meeting??   even   if   the   baby   villain   tried   something,   max   could   have   just   frozen   him   and   bounced   💀   the   scene   on   the   train   when   he   struggled   so   hard   not   only   to   get   the   weapon   but   also   to   free   his   foot   when   it   got   stuck   was   absolutely   pathetic   because,   again,   HIS   TELEKINESIS   WOULD   HAVE   SOLVED   EVERYTHING   IN   A   MATTER   OF   SECONDS.
now   onto   phoebe;   i   actually   like   that   she   keeps   tabs   on   neighboring   towns   through   the   news   to   see   if   any   other   heroes/places   in   general   are   in   need   of   her   assistance,   but   she   wouldn't   have   needed   captain   man's   permission   to   attend   the   villains   meeting   lol   and   it   was   very   dumb   of   him   to   even   try   to   refuse   her   offer   in   the   first   place.   she's   thunderman's   daughter,   not   a   mundane   kid   like   henry,   so   she   knows   exactly   what   she's   getting   herself   into,   and   she   has   a   variety   of   superpowers,   one   of   which   is   a   literal   umbrella   to   several   other   superpowers   ?   ?   she's   extraordinarily   valuable   to   them   !   !   !
there's   a   handful   of   different   ways   phoebe   as   thundergirl   could   have   SINGLEHANDEDLY   shutdown   the   secret   supervillains   meeting.   it   wouldn't   have   taken   her   more   than   five   seconds   to   freeze   the   whole   place   and   everybody   in   it   besides   her,   captain   man   and   kid   danger.   there,   saved   the   day.   she   could   have   used   telekinesis   to   manipulate   all   of   their   bodies   at   once   or   to   hold   them   in   place   or   to   make   them   get   on   the   ground,   not   to   mention   maiming,   if   we're   getting   real   (   which   we   aren't,   since   this   is   a   kids   show   ).   but   again,   saved   the   day.   she   could   have   used   her   heat   breath   to   scare   and   fight   them   off,   and   i'm   being   really   humble   about   the   capacities   of   her   superpowers   right   now   lol.   .   .   THE   DAY   WAS   SAVED!   but   what   did   captain   man   do   instead?   sent   thundergirl   away   so   he   could   deal   with   everyone   himself   and   then   got   captured   in   the   process,,,   i'm   not   even   a   hater,   but   that's   just   dumbass   energy   lmao   and   again,   kid   danger   left   because   he   was   given   an   order,   but   thundergirl   doesn't   take   orders   from   captain   man   because   she   doesn't   work   for   him.   she   wouldn't   have   left.   it's   canon   that   phoebe   is   way   too   competitive   and   stubborn   for   that   lol   she   would   have   stayed,   fought   and   won.   i   cannot   stress   this   enough.
and   the   whole   scene   on   the   train.   .   .   the   issue   of   her   freeze   breath   not   working   because   of   the   wind   (   i'm   not   even   sure   that's   an   actual   thing   because   it   never   happened   on   her   show   before,   and   i   don't   remember   reading   anything   about   it   on   the   page   about   freeze   breath,   but   let's   work   with   it   for   the   sake   of   the   scene   )   could   have   been   easily   solved   if   she   just   changed   her   position,   then   the   wind   would   have   worked   in   her   favor.   it   wasn't   an   ACTUAL   problem   lmao   if   they   didn't   want   thundergirl   to   easily   handle   the   situations   at   hand,   then   they   should   have   just   said   that   SJSHSJDSKSJ   and   her   struggling   during   the   physical   fight   literally   goes   against   the   canon   of   the   thundermans   where   she   has   been   showed   to   be   able   to   easily   fight   off   MULTIPLE   people   at   once.   WITHOUT   USING   HER   SUPERPOWERS.   which   wasn't   the   case   on   the   train,   she   was   using   them.   which   means   she   wouldn't   have   struggled.   at   all.   AT   ALL.   they   literally   showed   her   throwing   a   guy   off   the   train   with   telekinesis,   what   was   stopping   her   from   doing   that   before   ?   ?   she   legit   could   have   handled   everything   with   telekinesis   alone,   she   wouldn't   have   even   needed   her   other   superpowers   which   were   still   AT   HER   DISPOSAL,   i'm   sorry   she   is   simply   overpowered,   we   must   accept   😔
anyway,   this   episode   was   a   disservice   to   both   phoebe   and   max,   their   superpowers,   abilities   and   even   personalities,   and   i   can't   comprehend   such   a   huge   failure   on   a   crossover   between   superhero   shows   when   the   crossover   with   the   haunted   hathaways   was   so   good   and   managed   to   do   both   tv   shows   justice   with   a   lot   more   characters   to   deal   with   and   a   whole   different   dynamic   to   introduce,   without   erasing   the   powers   and   dynamics   of   either   tv   shows   and   characters   !   "the   haunted   thundermans"   remains   superior   in   every   way,   even   plotwise,   and   i   love   that   for   them   ♡

New blog + short statement
Hi everyone, I created a new blog: https://www.tumblr.com/backtothethunder2023
On this new blog I will talk exclusively about the Thundermans (upcoming movie, character discussion etc.) If you’re interested in that, please feel free to follow this blog and send me asks there (someone pls try that, because I’m not sure if the option is activated correctly!)
As the new Thundermans movie is approaching, I would be very happy to discuss it with you (people who have been in the fandom before, but also people who newly joined the fandom!) =)
But I want to make a short statement beforehand, because it’s important to me:
Many fans of the Thundermans are kids/young teenagers. This was the case back in the day when the show first aired (my friends, that was TEN years ago omg!!! In 2013), but it is also the case now, because recently  the show gained many new fans due to streaming. I am also aware of that because of the type of new comments I still get on my old content I made for the Thundermans (on youtube etc.), which are very obviously written by children as can be noted by the interesting spelling and grammar (XD).
While I don’t plan to take any of this old content down, as an adult, I still feel a responsibility to not mix it with more serious  stuff (e.g. posts about political issues etc.), that is clearly not meant for children.  Of course, in an ideal world, parents would not let their kids roam the internet by themselves, but we all know that unfortunately this is often not the case.
That’s why I am starting a new blog about the Thundermans and new posts on this blog about the Thundermans will be reblogged to it as well to gather everything at one place.
To be in a fandom with such a broad audience consisting of kids, teens and adults  always requires extra caution. I would encourage everyone to add tags, a rating and (if necessary) TWs to any content you make within the fandom and to just always be mindful of what you post.
That’s all for now.
Thank you for reading! =)

Our Hope
Backstory for this: was in the mood for some good old-fashioned thundercest and came across @bbshipper21‘s fic “Brownies, kisses and confessions.” (https://bbshipper21.tumblr.com/post/163974197028/brownies-kisses-and-confessions) Then I was scrolling through to see if there were more pieces farther back in their blog and came across this (https://bbshipper21.tumblr.com/post/149347920933/max-and-pheobes-14-yo-daughter-her-power-is-time) prompt. I don’t know if the people they tagged ever wrote anything, but I really wanted to try. I’ve never written for this ship, and I normally write in the first person, not the third, so this is probably a little bit awkward, but I figured I would post it anyways. I don’t know if @bbshipper21 is still active, but if they see this, I hope I did it justice.
Our Hope
Ships: Max x Allison (briefly), Max x Phoebe
Trigger Warning: Brief Suicidal thoughts/actions
Word Count: 4123
“I love relaxing with my girlfriend,” Max said as he reclined on the couch, watching the hockey game. He honestly felt a little bit guilty about not watching it at his girlfriend’s house, but parents and him did not mix well, even if it disappointed her.
“You missed the puck!” What Allison said next was missed because he happened to glance around the room and watch as fourteen-year-old Hope appeared on the stairs. Eyes widening in panic, he’s quick to speak.
“Uh- Allison, I’ll be right back. I just forgot I needed to check something in my lair.” Hope’s eyes snapped to Max at the sound of his voice, but when she heard him mention his lair, she opened up the tunnel and slid down. Max watched, even more concerned by this random girl who apparently knows her way around his house.
“Oh, do you need any help?” Allison asked, glancing at him.
“No, I should be fine. Hopefully, it won’t take too long.” He brushed off, heading toward the slide as quickly as he could without looking suspicious.
“Okay, hurry back. You don’t want to miss too much of the game,” she called after him.
When Max landed on his bed, he saw Hope looking around at everything in wonderment.
“It’s so different…” She muttered.
“Who are you?” He demanded, causing her to whirl around in shock. He quickly lifted her using telekinesis, and used power-neutralizing handcuffs to restrain her to the desk chair. He wasn’t taking the risk of her using whatever power she did upstairs to escape.
“Dad!” Hope panicked. Shit. This isn’t my dad, yet. And who is that girl upstairs? Mom and Dad said they started dating around this time… This is what I get for wanting to know how my parents got together.
“Last I checked, I don’t have any children. My girlfriend upstairs can vouch for that.”
“Girlfriend?! That is not my mom!” Maybe not the thing to be focused on Hope.
“And I’m not your dad! You’re only a couple years younger than I am!”
Hope takes a deep breath, realizing this is getting her nowhere.
“Let’s start over. Hi, my name is Hope Thunderman. I’m from the year 2033. I was born December 21, 2018. I am currently fourteen years old, and I’m your daughter.”
Before Max can respond, Allison calls down to him.
“Max?”
“Coming!” He turns to Hope, “Stay here.”
“As if I have a choice?” she responds, shaking her restrained arms to prove her point.
Well, this blows. I wonder if he’s even met mom yet…
While Hope was left to ponder on her parents’ circumstances, Max made his way back to Allison.
“What’s up?”
“Your dad went to change his shirt and said he would be back to watch the game with us, but I need you to meet my parents tomorrow.”
“Allison, I’m a rebel. Whenever I’m around adults, especially parents, I just start insulting them.”
“You don’t have a choice. My parents said if you don’t come to the opening of their business tomorrow, we can’t see each other anymore.”
“What?”
“To them, no boyfriend is good enough for their sweet, little Ally-wally. Please, don’t give them a reason to break us up.”
Max sighs in defeat. “Fine, I’ll go to their grand opening.”
“Great! I’m going to call and tell them.”
“I’m going to go downstairs to prepare, I guess. You can watch the game with my dad when he gets back.” Ignoring the fact he basically just blew off his own girlfriend in his house, he went back to his lair using the stairs, locking the door behind him. He then blocked the slide to make sure no one else could get in.
Hope watched all of this lazily, quite bored.
“Are you done?”
“Look, I do not want to explain why there is a random fourteen-year-old girl in my room.”
“I’m not a random girl; I’m your daughter!”
“Well, let’s just put that to the test, shall we?” He walks over and plucks a hair from her head before going to one of his gadgets to test the DNA.
“Ow! You couldn’t just ask me questions like a normal person?”
“People lie. Science does not.” A few moments later, he looks at the results. “Okay, you’re my daughter. Although, your DNA is a lot closer to siblings…” He brushes that off before looking at her in excitement. “Am I ruling the world in your time?!”
“What?”
“Come on, you can tell me. Am I the world’s greatest supervillain? Is your mom my dark empress? Actually, who is your mom?”
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard you call her that... and why would you be a supervillain?” Max’s world stopped. “As for who she is, I don’t know if you’ve met her yet, since you said you’re dating what’s-her-face upstairs.”
“Hey! That’s my girlfriend.”
“Not for long, based on what you told me. You told me that you and mom started dating around this time. That’s…kind of why I’m here.”
“What?”
“You and Mom are so in love… I just wanted to know how it began. But every time I ask… you guys just… avoid the question. As if it’s some big secret. So, I figured I would use my powers to get answers on my own. Plus, I get to meet my grandparents! I’ve never met any of either of your families…”
“Why not?” Max looks confused. He can’t imagine his family leaving him alone for fourteen hours, much less fourteen years.
“You guys always said that you didn’t get along with your parents… Then, Grandpa Thunderman had a heart attack, and Grandma couldn’t be in this house anymore, so she moved. When you guys found out, you bought this house, saying you guys spent a lot of time here before you had me.”
“Yeah, but what about your aunts and uncle? Why haven’t you met them?”
“You have siblings?!”
“…yes?”
“Can I meet them? Please, Dad?” Hope made the doe eyes she knew her father could never resist.
“Okay, fine! But first, you can’t call me that. At least, not around anybody. There will be way too many questions.”
“Got it. Max it is.”
“Second, you can’t tell them about the future. If anyone asks, you’re a student I was told I had to mentor to avoid failing math.”
“You’re great at math, though.”
“Just go with it.” Hope rolls her eyes but agrees. “Third, you have to tell me who your mom is.”
“You have a ‘girlfriend’.”
“I just need to know if I know her or not! Oh! Let me get you out of those cuffs.”
“Fine. Her name is Phoebe.” Max drops the keys in shock.
“What did you just say?” He whispers in shock.
“Her name is Phoebe? I don’t know her maiden name. She told me she prefers not to think about before she married you. I could never find it when I snooped, either…Dad? You okay?” Max shakes himself out of it. There’s no way… it can’t be.
“Y-Yeah. What was I—oh the cuffs.” He quickly releases his daughter.
“Thanks. So… do you know her?”
“…The only Phoebe I know is my twin.” Hope stares at him in confusion.
“That’s not…there’s no way…you wouldn’t have kept that from me…” Hope looks at her dad’s teenage self, begging him to agree with her.
“It’s not possible! Even if I wanted her,” He scoffs nervously, “which I don’t, Phoebe hates me anyways…”
“Can I meet her first, then? Just to be sure…”
“There’s nothing to be sure about. It isn’t possible! How long are you planning to be here for, anyways?”
“About that…”
“Hope…” He mutters threateningly.
“I don’t actually know how to get back…”
“What?!”
“I didn’t come here on purpose! I’ve never traveled more than a few minutes forwards or backwards. I’ve never had to make a return trip.”
“Wouldn’t returning just be another trip forwards?”
“I don’t know! I don’t want to risk it and get stuck somewhere. At least here, I know you. I could land anywhere and not know anyone.”
“Fuck. Okay. Let me call Phoebe. She’s more likely to know what to do, as much as I hate to admit it. Tell her I said that, and I’ll… ground you.”
“You’re not my dad yet,” Hope scoffs in annoyance.
“You think I’ll have forgotten this when you get back to the future? Ha! Try me. I’m great at holding grudges.”
She rolls her eyes, “Fine. Just call her so we can figure out how to get me home. In the meantime, I’m going to take a nap. Time travel is exhausting.” She trudges over to her father’s bed and lays down, falling asleep within a few minutes. Max looks at her fondly. That’s my daughter. His face turns more conflicted. She said her mom is Phoebe… I know how I feel, but there’s no way Phoebe feels that way. She’s too…pure. There’s a reason I’m dating Allison. To get over Phoebe. But if this is Phoebe’s daughter, too… Max shuts down the thought before it can even be completed. There’s no point to getting his hopes up. He picks up his phone and dials Phoebe.
“Max, I’m literally in my room. You couldn’t have come up here?” He can hear the annoyance in her voice.
“I didn’t know if you were home. And it kills me to say this, but I need your help.” He whispers, not wanting to wake Hope if she’s a light sleeper.
“Ha! That’s hilarious. Now what’s the real reason? And why are you whispering?”
“Just come down to the lair. This is something you need to see for yourself. I’ll unlock the door. But be. Quiet.” He hangs up before she can respond, knowing if she wasn’t going to come, she definitely will now, if only just to yell at him for hanging up. He quickly unlocks the door and moves to sit in the desk chair, staring at Hope pensively.
A few minutes later, Phoebe opens the door.
“Alright, I’m—”
“Shh!” Max quickly shushes her.
“Don’t shush me!”
“Phoebe!” He aggressively whispers, trying to get her to lower her volume before Hope wakes up.
“You called me here!”
“You’re going to wake her up!”
“Wake who--?” It’s too late. Hope stirs.
“…Mom?”
Max’s face fills with fear as his heart picks up speed. He can’t decide if he’s happy that it’s his twin, or if he’s dreading her reaction as he looks back and forth between Phoebe and Hope.
Phoebe looks at the girl on the bed before looking at Max. “What. Did. You. Do?”
“Phoebe…”
Hope is fully awake at this point, and her eyes are filled with tears.
“So, you did lie to me.” Max turns to her and feels like his heart is ripped out of his chest.
“Hope…”
“Save it, Dad! You both knew I would come here! Why wouldn’t you have told me?” She shouts, sobbing. “Why didn’t you trust me?” She whispers.
“Hope, please! I didn’t know!”
“But you did. Maybe you didn’t when I got here today, but you did before I left. You’ve known this whole time.
“But—"
“What’s going on?” Phoebe looks faint.
“Phoebe… this is our daughter, Hope.”
“…Th-this is a joke, right? I’m your sister. Your twin sister.”
Max hands her the DNA report before looking at Hope. “This explains why your DNA was closer to siblings than to offspring, I guess…”
“This isn’t possible!”
“Mom…”
“Don’t call me that!”
“Don’t talk to her that way! Can’t you see how upset she is?! Clearly, she didn’t know!”
“She’s upset?! I’m upset! I just found out that, at some point in the future, I fucked my twin! She shouldn’t exist!” Phoebe’s voice rises hysterically, while Hope sobs in the background.
“Get. Out.” Max’s voice is low and threatening.
“Excuse me?!”
“Get OUT, Phoebe! It wasn’t her choice to be brought into this world, it was ours! And you just said she shouldn’t exist! She’s having a hard enough time coping without her own mother telling her that!”
“She’s right…” Hope whispers.
“Don’t you dare, Hope. This is not on you.”
“Maybe I should try to go home… If-If I get lost, then Mom will be happy, right? I won’t exist…”
“Hope!” Max fills with panic.
“Now I know why you never told me… because I shouldn’t exist at all,” she laughs sarcastically. “Don’t worry. I won’t anymore.” Before she can go anywhere, Max grabs the power neutralizing cuffs and stops her from leaving. “NO! Let me go!” She sobs, struggling against Max’s arms around her.
“Shhh. It’s okay, Hope. Just breathe…”
“She doesn’t want me…” She sobs, leaning into Max. Max glares at Phoebe from where he holds his daughter protectively on the bed.
Phoebe is filled with guilt. “I—” She reaches out towards the bed, but Max holds Hope tighter in attempt to protect her from more pain.
“Just go, Phoebe. I should have known better,” Max says disappointedly.
“We need to talk about this!”
“There’s nothing to talk about. I called you to help me send her home. Instead, you told her she shouldn’t exist. I always knew you hated me, Pheebs, but this is a new low, even for you.” Max has tears running down his face, but his crying is silent, resigned. He doesn’t want Hope to worry.
“…you think I hate you?” Phoebe has never felt smaller in her life.
“Don’t you? You just told our daughter that she shouldn’t exist. You all call me a fuck up on a daily basis. I have never belonged here. If anyone shouldn’t exist, it’s me.” Hope can hear the pain he’s trying to hide, so she turns to cuddle farther into him, unable to wrap her arms around him while cuffed.
“I love you, Daddy,” she whispers, just loud enough for him to hear. He tightens his hold on her even more in response.
“Max...”
“I have always known my feelings were wrong, Phoebe. Why do you think I’m dating Allison? Why do you think I don’t want to meet her parents? I don’t need them to tell her that I’m just using her to get over someone else. Someone I can never have. Link left, and I was happy, Phoebe. And I knew it was fucked up. You were devastated. And it just proved you would never see me that way… so when you pushed me towards Allison, I said yes. It’s what you wanted. And I’m trying so hard to accept her… but she isn’t you. She never will be. So maybe the best thing…would be for me to not exist. Then I don’t have to lose Hope… and you don’t have to deal with me.”
“Max.” Max doesn’t even hear her anymore. He turns to his daughter.
“Be strong for Daddy, Hope. You were the one thing I did right.” Using telekinesis, Max slits his wrist with a knife from his desk.
“NO!” Phoebe’s scream of terror comes too late. The blood is spilling from his wrist, and Hope is starting to fade away, flickering in and out of existence in Max’s arms. She locks eyes with Phoebe.
“You always told me I was named because I gave you hope… I’m sorry I couldn’t do that for you anymore. Goodbye, Mommy,” she whispers, crying.
“No.” Phoebe whispers as she shakes her head. “No! This wasn’t supposed to happen…” She sobs, falling to her knees. “…I should have told you the truth…”
The blood is still seeping out when something in Phoebe ignites.
“And I will. I’m not losing Hope.”
She uses her freeze breath to stop the blood from coming out more and checks Max’s pulse. It’s weak, but still there. Hope stops flickering.
“Hope?” Phoebe calls out to her, their, daughter.
Slowly uncurling, Hope looks around in confusion. “…Mommy?”
“Hope!” Phoebe sobs, wrapping her arms around her. “You’re okay…” she whispers, crying.
“Daddy!” Hope shrieks, seeing the blood. “Daddy, wake up!” Despite Phoebe stopping the blood coming out, Max isn’t waking up, and his pulse is still very weak.  Hope turns to Phoebe in determination. “Mom, I need you to take the cuffs off of me.”
“No! You’re my daughter. I am not losing you!”
“I can save him! But we’re running out of time. If you don’t get me out of these cuffs, I’m going to start to fade again, and you’re going to lose us both.”
Seeing the resolve in Hope’s eyes fills Phoebe’s chest with pride. She’s a hero. Phoebe quickly grabs the keys and unlocks the cuffs.
“Okay…” Hope took a deep breath. “I can do this. I’ve never done it with another person, but there’s a first time for everything.” Her nerves start to creep in, and she looks to Phoebe for strength. “I have to reverse time. And I need you to save him.”
“What do you need me to do?”
“Hold my hand. We’re going back to just before he summons the knife. I need you to stop the knife from making contact with him.”
“Won’t more than one of us being there cause problems?”
“As long as we exist in the moment we travel to, we end up in those bodies. I didn’t exist in this time, so I guess that’s why I appeared as myself. If I had traveled to when I was four, I would have my current mind in my four-year-old body. So I’m going to end up back in the cuffs in his arms, and you’re going to be free. You need to stop the knife.”
“Okay.” Phoebe takes a deep breath to settle her nerves before grabbing Hope’s hand. “Let’s do this, baby girl.” Phoebe watches as the world around them turns to white. The next thing she knows, she’s watching Max say goodbye again.
“Be strong for Daddy, Hope. You were the one thing I did right.” Time slows as Max summons the knife, Phoebe watching in fear. I won’t lose you. I won’t lose Hope. As she thinks that, she throws the knife across the room just before it touches his wrist.
“I did it…” She whispers in shock.
“Phoebe…” Max whispers in shock, but also in pain.
“You did it, Mom!” Hope cheers in relief, jumping off of Max and going toward her mother. Phoebe quickly undoes the cuffs and pulls Hope to her, stroking her hair as she hugs her.
“You gave me hope,” she whispers in her ear.
She wipes her daughter’s tears before turning to her future husband, her twin. She marches over to him and slaps him.
“Don’t you ever even THINK about pulling that shit again!” She says, crying.
“Phoeb—”
“NO. It’s my turn to talk. Yes, I loved Link. And I was devastated he left. But… I loved him as a friend. I tried to want more. Because loving you was wrong. But nothing is more wrong than a world without you. And without Hope. I love you. I know our family doesn’t understand you… and I let them get in my head. I let them influence how I treated you. And I’m so sorry, Max. You are not a fuck up. You are everything I have ever wanted and never let myself have. And I am done standing in my way.”
“Wha--?” Phoebe doesn’t let him finish, pressing her lips to his. She wraps her arms around his neck, tangling her hands in his hair as she climbs on his lap and deepens the kiss. His hands wrap around her waist, pulling her flush to him.
Hope stood off to the side, heart filled with joy as she saw her parents kiss for the first time. This is why their love is so strong. It stood the test of everything in the world being against them, including themselves.
As Max and Phoebe start to get carried away, Hope clears her throat to remind them she’s in the room.
“I’m not supposed to be born for another two years, so maybe you should put off making me. At the very least, wait until I’m not in the room.” Phoebe blushes bright red, while Max chuckles.
“Definitely my daughter.”
“Our daughter,” Phoebe corrects him.
“Our daughter,” He agrees, staring at her lovingly.
“Still here,” Hope interjects.
“Right. Well, Hope, I think I know why we never told you how we got together…” Max says, smiling.
“Because we needed you to give us hope that we could,” Phoebe finishes.
Hope looks at her parents with tears in her eyes before flinging herself into their arms. “I love you guys,” she whispers.”
“We love you, too.” They hug their daughter, still in shock of the day’s events.
“Now, when are you planning on going home?” Phoebe asks.
“That’s why I called you to start with, Pheebs. She doesn’t know how to go home.”
“Wouldn’t she just travel forwards?”
“That’s what I said!” They both turn to Hope, eyebrows raised expectantly.
“Okay, so I might have told a teensy tiny fib to see how you guys got together,” she mutters sheepishly.
“Hope…” Max warns.
“But hey! Now we know I will definitely exist because of it. Who said lying never solved problems?”
“Hope,” Phoebe admonishes.
“Yes?”
“Thank you,” Max said. “Without you… I wouldn’t have your mom.”
“And I wouldn’t have your dad.”
“…so can I meet your family?”
“Why haven’t you met our family?” Phoebe asks. Max looks away, now understanding.
“I guess…now that I understand your relationship…that they didn’t accept you. I won’t actually know until I go home and ask, but in my time, neither of you ever mentioned siblings. I’ve never met my grandparents… I can’t meet Grandpa anyways, but you don’t talk to Grandma.”
“…why can’t you meet dad?” Phoebe asks hesitantly.
“…he had a heart attack. Grandma moved after that, and you guys bought this house.”
“Dad’s gone?”
“…I’m sorry, Mom…”
“…no, it’s okay. I’ve still got time with him.” Hope doesn’t remind her that they don’t talk before he dies. She doesn’t want her mom to break down again.
“So, can I meet them? I know they can’t know who I am… but I want to know where I come from.”
“Sure. We can say you’re a transfer I’m showing around.”
“See, Dad? That makes so much more sense than you helping me because you’re failing math.”
“Max, you’re great at math,” Phoebe looks at him baffled.
“That’s what I said!”
At that moment, something occurs to Phoebe.
“Max… what are you going to do about Allison?”
“I guess… I’m just going to have to tell her the truth. I didn’t want to meet her parents because I didn’t see this as lasting. I knew I was still in love with someone I knew from our last town, and I tried to get over her, but I can’t. And if she doesn’t buy that, I’ll tell her I love pollution and cutting down trees.” Phoebe laughs.
“That will work great. She’ll never talk to you again.”
“Good. I’ll have more time to focus on you,” he whispers flirtingly in her ear. She pushes him away by the face before taking her daughter’s hand.
“Ready to meet your family?”
“Nervous.”
“Don’t be. We’ll be with you every step of the way. And then, you’re going to go home and find out what happened to all of them. Not for us, but for you.”
“Yes, Mom.”
“Phoebe. And Max. No need to cause a fight.”
“Right. Phoebe and Max. Nice to meet you. I’m Hope.”
They went upstairs and spent the night playing games. Hope ate dinner made by her grandmother and watched her aunts and uncle use their powers to tease each other. Her grandfather made a few digs about Max being a supervillain, but otherwise seemed friendly. When it was time to leave, Hope hugged her parents tightly.
“When I get home, I’m going to give you two the biggest hug.”
“We’re looking forward to it. We’ll see you soon, Hope.”
“I love you.”
“We love you, too.”
Hope vanished, leaving the twins to process the events of the day.
“You know, Pheebs. She just said we couldn’t make her. She didn’t say we couldn’t practice.” Phoebe smacks him in the arm.
“No way. You need to earn it first.”
“Gladly.” He pressed his lips to hers happily, finally at peace with himself.
“Hey, Max?”
“Yeah?”
“What do you think is going to happen to our family?”
He takes a deep breath. That’s a loaded question.
“I think… that we’ll have each other no matter what. And if this family doesn’t want us, we’ll make our own. Our daughter showed me that.”
“She really is our Hope.”
The end.

The Thundermans Return - Part 2
SPOILERS AHEAD!
Previously on my review...
The Thundertwins are taken to Dark Mayhem's old lair, to be tortured by an AI and unfortunately for them, nobody else knows where they really are, so they're on their own.
Tumblr media
Later in Hiddenville, the V-Team break into the Thundermans house to find out where the Power Plant is and once again, nobody was able to even face them. I mean, Billy could've knocked them out in a second, but they only saw Hank getting tased by a plasma beam.
All they had to do to get what they want, was showing the family a live stream of Max and Phoebe getting tortured, so Hank and Barb decide to give out the plant, which was hidden inside of the penguin butler all this time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The V-Team take the plant and leave the house to continue with their plan and even though Hank tries to follow them as always (by flying out the roof), the Thundermonitor informs that Hiddenville is being covered by a powerful dome, so now they can't get out of the city, even with Chloe's power.
By the way, I wonder if the squirrel they used to test the red seeds, was the same one Dr. Colosso lost to, after their short encounter in "Breaking Dad". It was funny though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back in Metroburg, Max and Phoebe are in a worst danger, as Dark Mayhem's AI has started to fill the booth with liquid mercury to kill them, and since the cell is un breakable and their powers doesn't work on the liquid, they'll be practically doomed once the booth fills.
Let's pretend that their suits are mercury proof and that freeze breath and heat breath can't reach 234 K and 630 K respectively.
Tumblr media
That's when they finally open themselves up to each other, about their reasons to work so hard as superheroes and realized that they're not that different as they thought.
Max was focused on getting famous on social media, because he thought he could never be as good as her, and she was so obsessed with being the best superhero, because that way she could get to feel special again, like when Max was a villain and she was the favorite.
Tumblr media
After having this talk, they figure out a way to break the crystal booth from the outside with telekinesis and once they're safe and sound, they find out that they're still trapped in the lair due to the security system and they only have 20 minutes before it gets destroyed, along with them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back in Hiddenville, Colosso is still dealing with the evil squirrel as the Thundermans gather some of their friends and neighbours at the park, so they can help them out to go save Max and Phoebe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At first, Bardford and Mrs. Wong, were hesitant to help since they've always despised all of the Thundermans, but Chloe manages to convince them and this is when we learn that Gideon still has a crush on Barb. Dude...
At the end, only five citizens are given blue seeds to get superhero powers:
Cherry = Pyrotechnic Manipulation Oyster = Super Burp Gideon = Iron Fist Mrs. Wong = Super Tornado Principal Bradford = Super Strength
They all use their powers along with the Thundermans to hit the dome repeatedly, until breaking a hole out the park. Now that Chloe is able to use her powers, she teleports with her family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They get inside of the not-so-discreet lair, just in time to save Max and Phoebe, but they're still trapped inside with an inevitable explosion and they only have 15 seconds left.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With no password to be used, they were expecting to use Chloe's power to teleport out, but she says that she needs a minute to recharge.
And this is when I said... WHAT?!
We've previously seen baby Chloe using her powers two times in a row in "Are You Afraid of the Park?" or multiple times in "On The Straight And Arrow". The only explanation I can think about, is she only experience this limitation, when teleporting more than one person at a time.
But she's like 12 now, so her powers should be stronger than before, but yeah, I'll let it go.
Tumblr media
The place is about to explode, but Hank saves them all by using brute force to deactivate the self-destruction sequence. But there's another problem, since the V-Team is still out there.
Tumblr media
And right before they go save the day, Billy finally has a moment to show he's not the dumb they think he is, by helping them to figure out where the villains may have gotten to end with their evil plan; Mount Metroburg.
Tumblr media
Far away from there, the villains are all together on the top of Mount Metroburg, ready to launch a giant drone with the red seeds turned into dust and spread them around the whole city, but the Thundermans appear just in time to stop them.
I wonder if the Hero League was aware of the V-Team identity at this point, because I really doubt the guards would just let them walk out of the Superjail next to the V-Team, but considering how easy they must've defeated Max and Phoebe, they probably just knocked out all of the guards in the blink of an eye.
Tumblr media
Anyway, they start fighting each other and we fiinally get to see what Kira was talking about, when she said the movie had a lot of fighting scenes. I really liked it, especially because now we see the Thundertwins using all their powers and skills.
Telekinesis to push the enemy in the middle of the battle or throwing back plasma balls, and heat breath and freeze breath to break some plasma shileds and explode a few rocks during the fight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At first, I kind of felt Hank and Barb's powers were a little bit nerfed here. I mean, they're practically veteran superheroes and still were struggling to defeat King Crab and his daughter. But in "A Hero Is Born", Hank was able to defeat three villains without any help, but here... well he was using a stick to hit the bad guy.
I guess they were trying to balance the fight to not make it boring or easy to win and that's why they find another way to defeat King Crab and She-Crab.
Also, I liked to see Billy and Nora working together to fight back Strongdor and his son, Krondor. They didn't look like they were holding back, but the way they beat them up was kind of weird. I guess that's the price when heroes try to stop the bad guys, instead of killing them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, Dark Mayhem is the last man standing and the Thundertwins keep fighting against him side by side, until they're close enough to freeze him and the fight is over.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, Dark Mayhem Jr. manages to launch the drone at the last minute and even though Max freezes him too, now they have to stop that thing from spreading the red dust around the city.
Hank quickly mentions that the drone is faster than him, so there's only one way to stop it; Chloe's teleportation powers, that's when Hank and Barb finally make the hard desition of letting her youngest daughter take a risk for once, and she teleports with Max and Phoebe.
Tumblr media
Now they're flying on the drone as Max shuts down the energy so Phoebe can get the red dust container out, but at one point she slips her hand and is about to fall, so she hands Max the container, getting ready to sacrifice herself in order to save the city. Max refuses and Chloe keeps struggling to thouch her hand to teleport back safely.
Did anyone else notice how Max was holding the container under his right arm, but on the next scene it's gone and he's just grabbing the border of the drone instead, but once they teleport back with the family he's holding the container again and gives it to Hank?
Tumblr media
Back in Hiddenville, the family is spending time together at home and talking about their new life at their old town. Everything seems to be back to normal, when President Kickbutt arrives to apologize and get all of them back into the Hero League.
Tumblr media
Max and Phoebe ask her to turn their house into the new headquarters of the T-Force, to give their family the place they deserve, to which Evelyn agreeds, along with two more bratty requests from the twins.
Tumblr media
We then see that Cherry, Oyster, Gideon, Mrs. Wong and Bradford still have their powers and it is implied that the Thundermans were meant to take their powers away, but they decide to freeze the problem (just like old times) and have a family night together, while enjoying Hank's chilli.
On the last scene, Dr. Colosso is alone at Max's laptop, talking to a misterious voice that seems to be recruiting him for a secret mission, which leaves us wondering if they're actually planning something in the not too distant future, such as a new season or another movie.
Tumblr media
And this is it.
"The Thundermans Return"
I was gonna write all the things I needed to point out in this post, but I wanted to elaborate my opinions with more pictures, which I can't add due to the 30 pictures limit, so I've decided to write all I have to say about this movie in a new post, which is already published, by the time you read this.
See you there.
