Hello my friend ❤️ I wrote something particularly fluffy for you!

It was late.

Or maybe it was early— Wylan couldn’t tell. He was far too comfortable to care. Jesper was solid and warm along his back, the curtains were blowing gently with a light spring breeze, and the moon left a long shaft of silver light across the rug. He couldn’t be bothered to count the distant chime of the clock in the hall, and it didn’t really matter, did it? Wylan wasn’t moving from right here for anything short of mortal peril.

But that didn’t mean he could sleep.

He rolled over, tangling his legs into the long, lean ones beside him. Jesper’s arm was sprawled across the pillow as if he was waiting for him, even in sleep, and Wylan was always helpless to resist a Fahey invitation. His chest was warm, and his pulse was steady under Wylan’s ear. He kissed the skin over his heart, just to hear his lover’s sleeping sigh.

I’ve never been so at ease. It was a realisation he wasn’t prepared for. He was so deeply comfortable, wrapped in soft sheets, resting on a warm, loved body. He felt so utterly… safe.

He felt safe, in his father’s house, no less.

No, he corrected, in our house.

This was their home— somewhere along the line, it happened. Between taking the portraits down and agreeing on the wallpaper pattern, replacing the ugly old parlour sofa and tuning his mother’s piano… Wylan felt like he belonged here. He lived here. With his betrothed, and with his mother. This was a place where all his friends had a room of their own.

These halls had held more laughter in the past year than Wylan had heard in his entire childhood.

It had changed. It was no longer Jan Van Eck’s house.

It made him think about it— change. Not for the first time, of course, but… he’d always been so afraid of it. And now here he was, relishing in the things it brought. Breaking from what was expected of him had helped him reclaim a happiness he had never known could be his. From pastel to bright jewel tones, from winter to spring, from boyfriend to betrothed to…

Husband.

His ring winked at him in the moonlight.

And he wasn’t quite done with change, but he didn’t want to do it alone.

“Jes?” He whispered, craning up to press a kiss under his lover’s stubbled jaw. Jesper huffed. “Jesper.”

He grumbled, scrunching his nose as he turned his face into Wylan’s curls. He could feel him nuzzle into his hair like he might fall right back to sleep there. Wylan couldn’t stop smiling long enough to roll his eyes properly.

“Jesper, I’ve been thinking.”

“Again?” His voice was sleepy. “Merchling— no thinking before the sun. We’ve talked about this.”

“It’s important.” Was it? Even if it wasn’t, it was too late now— Wylan wouldn’t be able to sleep until he said it.

That got Jesper’s attention. The arm of his under Wylan came to wrap around Wylan’s back, pressing in close.

“Bad important?”

“Good important.” Oh, Ghezen, he couldn’t stop smiling. His cheeks nearly hurt with it, and he felt like he might start glowing in the dark. “I want to take your name.”
