he probably pulled some out himself. laid one hand on the side of sam’s neck, his thumb pushed up under his jaw to keep him steady but also as a sign of reassurance.

he’d dig his fingers in but hold himself back from moving the pad of his thumb along his brother’s tongue and lips.

“good boy sammy” when he managed to pull the stubborn bastard out. he’d make sure sam put it under his pillow and that the tooth fairy rewarded him heavily for it.

he’d put the teeth in a little plastic bag and carry them around for years. neither john or sam any wiser about it.

dean keeps sam’s milk teeth after they find john’s storage locker, he treats them like something fragile, delicate little things. the pads of his paws trace over the sharp pointed ridge and god they look so tiny, it’s hard think sam isn’t a pup anymore. he cradles them in his palm, sniffing the teeth, reeking of puppy breath and something rotten. he eye’s sam in the opposite bed, still sleeping soundly with his precious coat ruffled every which way. dean goes for it, sucking a couple of the off white shards into his mouth, rolling them between his tongue and roof of his mouth, digging into the soft, wet muscle. he swears it tastes like sam, tongue tracing every little crevice. a particularly loud snore from sam startled him enough to make him realize he should probably put the box back in his bed before sam catches him, always the light sleeper, had to be in this life. he spits the puppy teeth back into his palm, wiping them quickly with his shirt and back into the box they came from. he works quickly and quietly enough to lay back down on the springy hotel mattress before the guilt can set in, letting himself dream of the taste once again.
