I dont know anything about Final Fantasy but I wanted to say that drawing of you in the wedding dress (i think it is?) is so so cute

thank you!!!!! i’m seriously so happy with it, it was once again done by @constellor whose art i ADORE and who made the art for the initial Remake playthrough too. it’s actually not a wedding dress to get a little semantic with it!!! it’s specifically a combo of these two aerith looks, the white coloring and flower accents being from Rebirth but using the style of the red dress from Wall Market in the first game which i slightly prefer.

I do have a Burning question on my mind, namely Karl's hat. Does the spoon and the red color combo hold any symbolism for something?

The spoon in Karl's hat is a reference to a painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder called The Peasant Wedding. The man on the right carrying the tray behind him has a spoon in his hat. This was also referenced in The Return of Martin Guerre (film) by a character who wore a spoon in his hat.

Here we go, a guestbook for my little brother's upcoming wedding! With the way bookbinding has consumed my life, my mother, unsurprisingly, turned to me and asked if I'd be willing to do the guestbook. Yes, of course! Handbound leather 3/4 binding, natch.

But I also am very bored by empty notebooks, and I also learned that the recommended number of pages for a wedding this large was like... twenty pages. If I'm paring leather by hand, the book is not going to be twenty pages. So I thought, and went back to my mother and suggested, 'what if each signer was prompted to draw the bride and groom?' She loved it. My brother has no idea, but I'm confident he'll love it to. He has no taste, and if my babiest brother forgot to constrain his eldest sibling, it's his fault if things run off the rails. When I asked what his wedding colors are, he said 'weddings have colors?' so any problems are on his head! 🤣

We're not a particularly artsy family, but we are a boisterous one! And it's the first marriage among his siblings and his fiancees, so things will be exuberant. And I wanted to set this up to be fun for participants and for the couple, while still generating an aesthetically pleasing book interior. I set out to find an antique woodcut-looking page frame, and ended up with a combo of editing one frame, tracing/drawing rose decorations from a different frame, and stealing some ovals from a third frame to incorporate and decorate to blend. That frame goes on the recto side of each page, with a banner for the name of the signer (and two smaller banners with the names of the couple, which i whited out). On the verso side, to add length to the book and avoid risk of bleedthrough, I traced some animal couple photos and dressed them up for a wedding. Now, i just have to make instruction cards for the guests and distribute them to the tables, which means i also get to come up with a bunch of silly demo photos, hahaha

I'm very pleased with how it turned out! And naturally, the finishing touch, this is why I was learning the k118 style, to have this nice pretty book that still opens BEAUTIFULLY flat for writing. This was a fun project, and I'm super excited to show it to the rest of my family!

A Tale as Old as Time.

"Yo, Sebek!" Ace called out to his fellow first year. He thrusted his thumb at a painting. "Check this one out."

"Do not 'yo, Sebek' me," he bellowed angrily. "I do not take kindly to orders from humans, nor being summoned in such a casual manner!!"

"And yet you still stomped on over here when I said your name," Ace teased, pulling an even more intense glare from Sebek. "Anyway, cool your jets and take a look."

Again, he gestured to the platinum frame. It held the image of a maiden with long, golden curls and a wicker basket, leaning wistfully upon a low tree branch. Chin propped up on the back of one hand, she, with various animal companions--a squirrel, an owl, a flock of colorful songbirds--gazed off into the distance, as if caught in a wonderful daydream.

"Kinda reminds ya of a certain sleepyhead, huh?" Ace snickered, his grin turned a shade mocking. "Silver-senpai's totally got the same vibes."

Sebek's nostrils flared. "In what way does this woman resemble Silver?! You will retract that insolent remark at once!!"

"Uh, you don't see it? The checked-out expression, all the forest friends... It's definitely him, man."

"W-While that may be true, I would hardly compare Silver to a layabout like her!!"

"Whoa, that's harsh. What's got you all worked up?"

Sebek crossed his arms, mouth wrenched into a frown. "I have read about this woman in a text. She sleeps for long hours of the day--"

"Reeeeeally not helpin' your case there," Ace interjected.

"--and thinks of nothing but her dreams!! In this painting, she is even speaking to the animals about her most recent ones, where she meets a prince in the woods. He whisks her away upon his noble white steed, and they are happily wed."

"What's wrong with that? Isn't this the kind of stuff girls dream about anyway? True love or whatever."

"The content is not what matters!!" Sebek insisted--he was positively fuming. "What is absolutely infuriating is that she remains idle in her pursuit of that dream!! Rather than chase it or make efforts to make her wish come true, she sits idly by and waits for it to happen to her.

"Silver is, meanwhile, nowhere near that level of indolent! He is a man of action!! We have both diligently trained since childhood to serve as worthy attendants to the young master. To imply that he has not earned his position is tantamount to--"

"Okay, okay! I get it already, you don't have to shout," Ace grumbled, rubbing at his ears. He put on a gruff, loud voice, imitating Sebek. "Sheesh, for all the 'You're BELOW us great and proud fae, human!' talk, you sure are quick to jump to Silver-senpai's defense, huh?"

A smirk.

"Guess that means even hardasses like you have soft spots too."

"Hard work should be properly acknowledged and commended, regardless of who performs it," Sebek replied dismissively, "and there is a high standard set for those who serve the Draconia bloodline. Silver would not be where he is today, were he truly unworthy! Having undergone the same grueling training as he has... I can say with confidence that he has done his utmost to make his 'dream' come true."

This time, it was Sebek's turn to smirk.

"Perhaps the concept is foreign to you, seeing as you're one to skimp on effort. I've heard many a tale of how you cut classes and shirk your responsibilities in Heartslabyul--shameless!"

"Haaah?!" Ace planted his hands on his hips and glared. ""You've got a real talent for pissing people off, you know that?"

"Hmph! If you're going to be mad, then be mad at yourself for a lack of trying. As Lilia-sama says, you must take charge of your own destiny!! Fail to do that, and you've got no hope of attaining your dreams."

"Big talk comin' from someone who barely follows that advice! At least I go and put myself out there."

Sebek drew back, appalled, his expression curdling. "Unlike you, I am extremely punctual and thorough with my tasks, whether academic or professional!!"

"Not THAT, you idiot! I mean that you don't step out of your own comfort zone," Ace retorted. "You wanna be the best knight you can be? Then how's about you quit making excuses for yourself and be honest for once in your damn life?"

"Are you accusing me of dishonesty?! You, who constantly makes trouble for his own dorm members to clean up for him?"

"Look in a mirror, cuz you just described yourself too, buddy! Why don't you clean up your own act before you start pointing and starting shit with me?"

The two boys' voices grew increasingly louder and louder. More and more agitated. Other gallery goers passed looks in their general direction, shuffled away to free themselves of the noisy corner.

"SHHHHH!" a museum curator hissed at the duo from around the corner. "Quiet in the gallery! You're disturbing the other guests."

"I-I sincerely apologize for the disturbance!!" Sebek hurriedly called back, his cheeks warming with embarrassment. He bowed--a perfect 90-degree angle, an attempt to hide his furiously pink face.

Beside him, Ace cracked a smile most wicked. "Heh, there we go. Now that's more like the Sebek I know."

Happy Lockwood & Co. Big Bang!!! :D I had the absolute pleasure of collaborating with @The_Dreamer_Half_Alive (on Ao3 :) on her fic for the @lockwoodandcobigbang2023 event; set post TEG, it’s truly so lovely and heartwarming, and I had so much fun doing a piece for it! We very much hope you enjoy :)

Okay, so I tried to put a bunch of little easter eggs from the fic and just in general in here, so if you’re interested:

Alright, to start off, I was generally very inspired by them getting a record player; I thought it was very sweet, and I loved the idea of them finally getting to relax and hang out in the library (the lack of chairs, I know; I couldn’t figure out how to put them in without blocking people lol) and locklyle dancing, with the record player on in the background, so that’s what I took as the basis of the scene!!

We had discussed that the characters were kind of a combo of both show and book versions, so I tried to add a smattering and hints of both when doing their designs!

The record is, of course, an Ella Fitzgerald record as mentioned in the fic (the record drawn is her Souvenir Album)

Holly is wearing her engagement ring, and wearing shades of pink and cream because that’s what she wears at her wedding (although shifted in hue to better match the color scheme of the piece lol)

Everyone (minus Flo) of course has their white strands of hair (which is *always* one of my favorite details to draw)

Lucy and George bake in the fic, but I think I had just read the Christmas mini story when I was doing my thumbnail for this, so Kipps ended up being the one bringing in baked goods; however, the baking mitts are orange and monogrammed with George's initials because I couldn't let that slip by, could I?

I wasn't quite sure what to put Flo in, because in the books she never takes off her boots or puffer jacket, but I wanted to throw in some sign that she was living at 35 Portland Row and becoming closer to all of them, (and her close relationship with George,) so I let her keep the boots, but traded the puffer jacket in for one of George's plaid shirts :)

The chess game also made it in because of the Christmas short story, lol

Lucy's blue star jacket!! When I read the fic, I was planning from the start to have her wearing the jacket, so of course it made it in :) I wasn't really sure what style it should be, though, so I ended up with kind of an odd mishmash of designs, but I think it turned out working alright!

The sapphire necklace, because, of course

I adore that Lockwood wears his pink socks throughout the entire show (well, most of the time they're the pink ones ;) so I wanted to include them (and then gave Lucy blue ones to match :)

The chipped blue mugs that Lockwood brings to Lucy for her tea after she wakes up from nightmares are on the bookshelf, and I couldn't find a way to directly include the Earl Grey tea they have, but I made the tea bag tags grey in honor of it

The green glow is the ghost lamp outside because if I can find a way to incorporate cool glows in my art, I will (and also on a more narrative-driven note, symbolizing the past danger they've been through and how some of it is definitely still present, but they have each other to heal with and finally be able to have some simple fun with, and are now curled up in the safety and comfort of 35 Portland Row :)

And finally, a big theme of the fic is them healing and building a happy life together, so I just wanted them to all be happy for once, and hence I put in my best efforts to draw them as such :)

mortimer's closet

i want to ramble about the sense of style i have in mind for morty. this is more for my own reference than anything but feel free to read if interested. with the previous version of mortimer, i never felt inspired to develop any looks for him, his appearance just didn't speak to me. i did not have a strong inspiration/direction when i was making him either.

this new version is a much better muse.

colours: red and black is obviously morty's signature combo, but i wanted to work some more colour into his wardrobe. i thought some muted cool colours (blue and purple) would actually suit him really well because of his pale skin and black hair. i also thought cream (a sweater or some trousers) would complement the black and red colour scheme but i didn't make any outfits with it. for some brighter colours i could see him wearing teals, emeralds, and golds. i feel like earthy, warm colours (oranges, browns, greens, pinks, beiges) and neon colours would look very out of place on him.

everyday 01: sports coat, turtleneck sweater, wool or tweed trousers. his outfit for running errands where he'll be seen in public. comfortable, relaxed but still quite mature and luxe to reflect his personality and background.

everyday 02: a shirt with rolled up sleeves and slacks. he's not a fan of jeans. this is as casual as he gets.

formal 01: pinstripe double breasted suit. i always associate pinstripe with mortimer's old school vibe. this look is very vintage wall street yuppie. this is his power suit !

formal 02: a sleek, modern charcoal suit for any formal occasion. business meetings, weddings, funerals, divorce proceedings...

outerwear: this peacoat just suits him so well.

athletic: a long sleeve shirt for working out because he'd be too embarrassed to show any skin up top. all his workout gear is monochrome. sadly, no neon spandex for him.

sleepwear: a pair of silky red undies because red is his signature color! i added gold lettering because his TS4 default outfit has a bit of gold in it. and you know this man only wears designer underwear.
