"I've told you before, it's my money. I can do whatever I want with it!"
"But-"
"And no buts! This is my house and if I say we're going out to the fair then that's what we'll do." The young man smiled down at his girlfriend as she pouted up at him in a sulk.
She knew how much he loved this time of year, when all the local businesses would set up stalls around the town square for people to come along and buy their wares from them.
It was like Christmas on steroids, with everything being open until late into the night every day of the week. There were rides, games, food stalls and so many other things to see and do.
“But you know I don't like crowds," she whined. "And there's bound to be lots of drunk people who might try something."
"I promise I won't let anyone take advantage of you while we're here. And besides, everyone knows me. They'd never dare mess with us." He gave her a kiss on the cheek before standing up and pulling her up by the hand. "Come on, let's go."
She sighed as she followed him out of the door and towards the car. He had a point though; he could probably handle any trouble that came his way if it did arise.
Even now, they only needed to look at each other for a few seconds and they both knew exactly what the other one was thinking.
They drove through the town centre and parked up near the edge of the market area.
“We should get some tickets first," he said as they got out of the car. "That way we can ride all the rides without having to wait in line."
"I suppose so," she replied. "But you know I'm not really that fond of rollercoasters or anything too fast."
He laughed as he took her arm and led her over to the entrance gate.
A few moments later, they were inside the grounds and walking amongst the stalls which lined either side of the walkway.
Most of them sold clothes, jewellery and other accessories but there were also plenty of food stands selling hot dogs, chips and candyfloss.
"It looks busy already," he commented as they made their way slowly through the throng of people.
"I think we're going to have to fight our way through. But I think I know a shortcut."
"Oh goodie!" she replied sarcastically. "How exciting! Let's go."
The finally found the ticket booth.
“Two please," he said to the lady behind the counter. "For two adults."
She handed them each a paper ticket as well as a plastic bag containing a pair of wristbands.
He slipped his on and watched as his girlfriend did the same.
Once they'd put their bags back in the boot, he looked around and spotted a small kiosk on the far side of the field.
"Come on," he said excitedly. "Let's go on the merry-go-round."
He grabbed your hand and pulled you along after him as he made his way across the grass.
You could hear the music playing as you walked towards the brightly coloured horses.
When you got to the front you realised there was a queue leading onto the ride itself and several more queues waiting to get on once the previous ones had left.
"I knew i should've bought out the fairground earlier," he muttered.
"Oh hush, it doesn't matter," she whispered sweetly in return. He started pushing the people in front of him aside until he reached the head of the queue.
As soon as his turn arrived, he held your hand tightly as you stepped aboard the ride.
You held on to his waist firmly and gripped tight the metal bars above your head.
Then, the whole thing began moving round and round, faster than you thought possible.
Your boyfriend's hands tightened even further as you squealed with excitement whilst trying desperately not to lose grip of the bar.
After about five minutes of dizzying motion, the ride stopped again and you felt yourself start falling forwards as it slowed right down.
Luckily your boyfriends strong arms kept you from plunging off the seat completely, although they couldn't keep hold of one hand for very long.
“Wheeee!! That was fun," you cried breathlessly. "Let's do another!"
“We should go on one of those little bumper cars next," he suggested with a chuckle. You nodded your agreement eagerly.
They headed towards the exit and went outside where there were dozens upon dozens of these miniature vehicles racing around a large wooden track.
You choose a vehicle and climbed inside. Your boyfriend choose one nearby, hopped in beside you and wrapped his arms around you protectively.
"Hold on baby," he growled softly in your ear.
"Ooohhhhhh!" you screamed in delight as you careered around corners, narrowly missing other cars on numerous occasions.
You bounced up and down against the seat as you spun around, laughing madly, feeling safe in your boyfriends embrace.
Eventually he released his grasp on you suddenly and you fell forward as you tried to grab the steering wheel. The force sent you hurtling off the seat and crashing to the floor, hard enough to knock the wind out of you.
"You alright?" he asked, looking concerned.
"Y-yeah I think so," you stammered between gasps for air.
“I love you," he told you as he leaned down and kissed you tenderly.
After a moment you recovered your senses enough to smile at him and reply.
"I love you too."
A short time later, you were sat back down enjoying yourselves on one of the benches whilst he was feeding you ice cream.
You were giggling like children, holding hands and talking about all the stupid things that happened to you during the day. Eventually, the sun started setting and the crowd started thinning away.
“I know sometimes we argue but it makes me happy to spend time with you," he told you earnestly.
"It does make me happy too," you admitted. "I wouldn't want to change a thing."
"You’re so beautiful," he continued dreamily. "So caring and compassionate too. If you weren't so shy, I could tell you how wonderful you are to me."
You blushed deeply, embarrassed at having been spoken to quite so openly.
But still you felt your heart begin to beat faster as the words sank in deep within your mind. He leant in closer, his voice dropping even lower.
"I've fallen in love with you," he mumbled quietly into your hair. "And I intend to marry you someday."
You froze up instantly and stared wide eyed at him. His face dropped slightly and he cleared his throat awkwardly.
“Well, it’s getting late we better head home," he said with forced jollity. "It's a long drive tomorrow."
You nodded dumbly and allowed him to lead you back towards the car.
Once they were both seated safely inside, he turned towards you with a big grin plastered across his handsome features.
"So..." you murmured uncertainly. "Are you sure...you meant that...?"
His mouth split into a huge grin and he shook his head playfully as he spoke.
"Yes, of course. What kind of idiot do you take me for? Now buckle up, sweetheart, 'cause it's gonna be a bumpy ride!"

Unspoken Part 1
Simon "Ghost" Riley x Mactavish Reader
Part 2
---
The calming pitter patter of rain cascading down the cold window dulls my senses as I stare outside at the dark road. A shitty street light flickers weakly at the edge of the concrete. Other than the occasional blur of a passing car, the night is empty and cold. I tap a finger on the cracked window in thought before a tug of my sweater pulls me out of my daydream. I turn in the seat of the booth to look over at my obnoxious sibling incessantly tugging on me. My brow quirks up as I meet the bright blue irises of my grinning brother.
"Hm, Johnny?" He looks at me with a wide smile, nudging me in my side.
"Thought we lost ya there lass. We're supposed to be celebrating, remember?" I roll my eyes, trying to hide the smile forcing its way on my face. I look around at the booth, eyes flickering between everyone. Price and Gaz laughing in the corner, Johnny seated next to me, and him at the end of the table watching everyone carefully. My eyes meet his gaze momentarily before I turn back to look at Johnny.
"I am celebrating, just not the way you do." I counter, raising my bottle as I take a sip of my chilled beer. I look down at the glass, fiddling with the silver rings taking up space on several of my fingers. Johnny shrugs, turning to join Gaz and Price in their heated discussion. I can feel him watching me again, and my eyes quickly flicker up to meet his gaze. I try to smile softly, holding back the bubbling feeling of anxiety in the pit of my stomach at his stoic expression. He only nods in response, looking down at the glass in his hands. I can't help but watch the way his hands grip the glass tightly, wondering how the skin would feel on my own. I stand up from the table, moving quickly to walk outside for a cigarette. The cold air surrounds me and I shiver at the temperature change. The rain has calmed down by now, light droplets hitting my skin softly as I stand by the wall of the pub. I tug my sweater over the edge of my wrists as I fumble to try and pull out a cigarette from my pocket.
"Cold?" His rough voice calls out from behind me. I whip around to face him as he walks over to stand by me.
I muster a nod. "Yeah." Great, one word. I can only manage a single word in his presence before turning into a bumbling idiot. I swear I see the fabric of his balaclava move in the shape of a grin as he takes off his leather jacket and plops it on me. I try to hide the pink blush on my cheeks as he pats my shoulder. "I...thanks, Simon." I mumble.
He only nods, standing beside me as I look out into the dark street. My breath hitches as his arm rests against mine, my brain short-circuiting at the sudden contact. "I thought you quit smoking." His brown eyes narrow as he looks at the cigarette in between my fingers. I stuff it back into my pocket haphazardly.
"Don't tell Johnny." I reply softly, wrapping the leather jacket closer around my body. I inhale, trying to avoid the sudden staggering of breaths as I smell him around me.
"I won't." He looks down at me, and I swear I see his balaclava crinkle again. My heart beats rapidly as we stand in close proximity. I don't know if my mind is playing tricks on me, but I swear I feel his hand brush against mine. Before I can turn to question him, loud laughing catches my attention. Johnny, Price, and Gaz stumble out of the pub and walk toward us.
"I guess that's our queue to leave." I look over at Ghost, whose brows are now furrowed in thought. Instead of a reply, he quickly walks toward the car we came in. I watch him walk away with a frown, sighing as I meet the rest over at the car. We drive in silence, me at the wheel as the only mostly sober driver. Gaz snores in the backseat and Johnny giggles to himself as I grip the wheel tightly. My eyes flicker over to Ghost in the backseat, although he seems to avoid meeting my gaze. We reach base quickly, and after putting Johnny to bed I sit down in my own quarters.
I decide to get some water and after changing into a tank top and pajama shorts, I walk to the kitchen. As I pour myself a glass of water in the dark kitchen, I hear footsteps. My eyes flicker over to see Ghost walking in. I immediately avert my gaze as I realize he is only wearing his balaclava and sweatpants. "Hi." I squeak out, mentally yelling at myself for sounding so nervous. He only grunts in response, walking over to grab a glass from the cabinet. He leans against the counter top as he sips on some water, his eyes never leaving my form. I try to hide the pink blush spreading across my cheeks as my eyes look over at his bare chest to the ink spreading across his arms. "I like your tattoos." I say quietly, trying to fill the awkward silence with conversation.
"Is that why you're staring?" His gruff voice startles me for a moment and my cheeks redden further.
"I'm not staring." I set my cup down and cross my arms stubbornly. My heart skips a beat as he laughs, walking toward me to place his hands on each side of the counter behind me. He leans down, looking at me carefully. My breathing quickens at the close proximity and I quickly think up a lie. "I was admiring your tattoos. I've been thinking of getting one." This time, he chuckles, shaking his head as the balaclava covering the lower portion of his face stretches. I begin to imagine all the possibilities of what his smile looks like under that fabric.
"Oh really? What were you thinking of getting?" His hands move from the counter to rest on my hips and I gasp.
"M-Maybe a flower." I reply, feeling his rough hands trace the exposed skin between my top and my shorts.
"You aren't a flower kind of girl." He whispers, leaning closer.
"How would you know?" My brows furrow as I stubbornly try to hold onto my lie.
"Because I know what you like." My hands find their way to rest against his chest as his find their home at my waist.
"Simon?" I whisper hesitantly.
"Hm?" He murmurs, resting his forehead against my own.
"I-" Before I can continue, the heavy footsteps of someone walking toward us appear and we quickly step away from one another. Gaz tiredly stumbles into the kitchen, sending us a confused expression before grabbing some chips.
"You two still up?" His voice is muffled as he stuffs some chips into his mouth. I roll my eyes, nodding. I look over at Ghost, who avoids my gaze. I sigh, turning on my heels and heading back to my quarters. I jump onto my bed with a groan, rubbing at my head as I try to make sense of the night as I fall asleep.

Welcome to Chaos?!
I have no impulse control so have fun with these ones~ 😎
It was a regular day.
"KIM ARI! PUT IT DOWN!" A heavily accented voice yells chasing the younger child around as she laughed. They were holding a lighter in their hand.
Or not.
"NO! I'M SETTING YOUR POOL ON FIRE!"
"NO!" Greyson growled a really old friend of Jooheon and Jay as he chased her around.
"Hey where's your-" Said tall man opened the backyard's screen door before stopping in his tracks. "I think that's my queue to leave..." He slowly started walking backwards.
"You BETTER NOT! COME BACK HERE AND DEAL WITH THIS CHILD!" Jooheon just whistled as he looked around walking further back before slowly closing the screen door.
"KIM JOOHEON YOU BRAT-" He quickly out smarted Jay, picking her up and slinging her on his shoulder.
"Let me go you old man! I want to set your pool on fire again!" She wiggled around as he walked back inside.
"No you're not- I'm not scrubbing scorch marks off my pool side again." He shook his head as he sighed. "Now you're going to sit in the living room and colour in a colouring book while me and Jooheon cook or you get no cookies."
"Curse you."
Somewhere else more peaceful...
"So I add this..." Bonnie's heavily accented voice spoke as Emilia nodded her head proudly.
"Yes and now what else?" Bonnie looked over the different herbs, practicing her potion making was a lot harder then she ever thought it would be.
"Um...this..." She said more unsure as she picked up some twigs. Emilia squealed and clapped her hands nodding quickly.
"Yes exactly! You're making so much progress!" She hugged the younger girl who just giggled and blushed embaressed.
"Thank you Em, I have the best teacher after all." She smiled up at her before going to write some stuff in a journal and to continue the potion.
Somewhere homey and warm!
"Acey did I put too much on my face-" The shy boy asked as he looked at Ace, both of them having headbands pushing their hair back from their foreheads.
"Hmmmm nah!~" Sky smiled big as he nodded and finished up his face mask. Ace was on the ground sitting between Skyler's legs as said man sat at the edge of his bed. He had been putting little butterfly clips in Ace's hair while they did face masks. Sky squealed and back hugged Ace.
"I'm done! My turn for butterfly clips princess!" Ace snorted as he hugged his arm back.
"Alright move over cloud.~"
Somewhere in the city!
"Alone day is best day.~" Marci hummed to themselves as they walked down the street. They were doing some window shopping on their own, enjoying the cool summery breeze as they walked. They had a pair of headphones in, their last destination for the day being a nearby park. They were going to have a small picnic by themselves and preparing to do some sunbathing.
"A good day indeed.~"
In the shopping district...terrible idea.
"Leo I'm not sure about getting ANOTHER dress..." Ani said as she pouted looking at the bags the man was holding. Said man propped their sunglasses on his head and raised an eyebrow at her.
"You need another one for the dinner we're going to next week."
"Why can't I just wear one of the other ones-"
"No." He grabs her hand and drags her around. "Now let's go~ Shopping never waits for anyone~" Lelani whines but follows her best friend around with a pout.
And lastly somewhere well...unknown-
"This is why we don't do things without Jay around-" Set muttered as he cleaned up Angel's face. The halfling pouted giving him puppy dog eyes.
"That tree came out of no where." Loki rolled their eyes as he handed Set a band-aid.
"You have to get your wings under control you anti Angel-" He hissed a little as Angel glared at her.
"Yeah yeah, just finish so I can tuck them away." They pout with a tiny whine before standing up fully. "Let's go home. I need to lay down and stretch my wings-"
Now give a warm welcome to...

Protectors AU
Mirabel meets Bel
Mirabel was standing near the staircase when all of a sudden, a tile fell. She walks over to it, sits down, and leans over to pick it up but before she could, a familiar yet quiet voice was heard.
"don't touch that"
Mirabel jumps from the sudden noise and looks behind her. She freezes in place and stares at...herself.
"Hola Mirabel" the girl continued
"Who...who are you" Mirabel shuddered. Mirabel could tell this wasn't Camilo, the Aura around this entity was...strange.
" I'm bel...I'm here to...be your friend" Bel duly replied
"you're not possible...this isn't possible" Mirabel backed away
"ask your house" Bel motioned her hand to Casita's floor
Casita clicked and moved its tiles, clearly agreeing with Bel.
"let's talk Mira"
Mirabel and bel talked the entire night well...Mirabel asked questions all night and bel answered them.
"so casita made you?"
"yep"
"for me?"
"yep"
"wow...how long will you stay?"
"for however long you want me to Hermana"
"we're sisters?"
"if you want to be"
Mirabel was still finding it hard to believe but she was happy nonetheless. She still wanted to ask questions but she couldn't think of any at the moment.
"Are you ok, you seem a little sad?" Mirabel asks
"It's...just who I am Mira, how about we get some sleep" Bel was Mirabel's true feelings, she came from Casita, yes, but she also came from Mirabel's heart. Bel didn't feel like telling her that just yet.
"wait...will my family see you? also...I don't have another bed" Mirabel adds
"I can sleep on the floor Mira, and yes....they will" And with that, they went to sleep. Bel didn't necessarily need to sleep but she tried.
Casita was so happy that Bel was successful, they didn't plan on Bel being so...sad and dull in the clothes but hey Mirabel's happy. Breakfast was very surprising and eventful, to say the least.
Luisa meets Lulu
Luisa was getting ready to sleep but before she could, she felt something sit down on the edge of her bed.
She looked up and saw herself, who was...crying? at first, she thought it was Camilo but why would he do this right now? She sits up and examines what's happening in her room. While doing so Lulu looks back and sees her staring.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to disturb you it's just that...we need to talk" Lulu shyly says while wiping away some tears.
"Um...what's happening?" Luisa asks
"I'm a gift...from Casita, or a second gift in your case" she softly chuckles
"A second gift...why" Luisa questioned
"well...just to have someone to talk to from time to time I guess, to just have a friend" Lulu inquired
"Well...I guess that's cool um....what do you want to talk about?" She asked
"oh boy well...this will be a long talk so...how about you get some rest? I'll still be here don't worry" Lulu gestured
"oh...ok well um goodnight?"
"goodnight!" Lulu beamed "oh my name is Lulu by the way" she added.
Luisa didn't really sleep because well...you know why. She wasn't sure if this "Lulu" person. Sure she looked like her and sounded like her but this was still strange.
Lulu slept on the floor beside Luisa's bed. Luisa kind of felt bad but Lulu was sound asleep and snoring so she couldn't say anything. After a few hours of making sure Lulu wasn't a monster, Luisa went to sleep. Unaware of the events of tomorrow
Isabela meets Bela
Like everyone else, Isabela was getting ready for bed but before she could get in bed. Somebody was already sitting in it, Bela.
"Ugh...Camilo, I'm not in the-" she was cut off
"I'm not Camilo my name is Bela, and we have a lot to talk about" Bela had vines grab Isabela and throw her on the bed.
When Isabela regained herself Bela began to introduce herself a little more.
"Now that I have your attention, I'm Bela, I was made by Casita to help you with personal things and queue the questiooonsss now"
"....WHAT?" Isabela shouted
"yeah I know it's a lot to take in right now so I'll give you some time" Bela affirmed and layed down on Isabela's bed.
"where...how?"
"oh casita made me, they thought it would be a good idea for you to have someone to talk to" Bela explained
"talk to?...for what? what is happening?" Isa questioned
"we'll get to that in the morning, my energy is a little low, which is shocking since I was made by a magic house but what are ya gonna do, also while I'm sleeping I'll make myself temporarily invisible so you can't show Abuela I'm here...goodnight" Bela plopped her head down on the pillow and went to sleep.
"GOODNIGHT?"
Yeah, the "protectors" sleep like the dead so there's no waking them up. Only Casita wakes them up and it's hard for Casita to do it. I will be writing the yellow siblings next, and the triplets last.
Not gonna lie they’re. A lot better than me,p. Would’ve start screaming at the top of my lungs like a three year old 💀💀 ANYWAY. VERY COOL <333 Definitely an. Interesting conversation the next morning. But like what can you do. Mfs are crying too, why does Lulu lowkey remind me of Gyomei 😭😭

"Humans have very limited ranges of motion," Sunny complained.
The Titan lifted her head and found Sunny 'matting into view in her cockpit between matches. "Yeah? I mean. We're attached to ourselves," Freija responded. "I'm sorry I can't detach my hands? I mean, I can't and still use them?"
Sunny flickered at her Guardian. "Well, I was trying to come up with a way for you to dance with me, and copying didn't work at all, so I was trying to translate my things into your things, and then I was just going to change your things into mine, but both of those feels impossible because you only have four major limbs and none of them can rotate or move three hundred sixty degrees."
Freija blinked at her Ghost. "I mean, we're attached to ourselves," she repeated. "Tendons and shit, you've seen 'em."
"Yes," sighed Sunny.
"It's okay, we're used to this one," Freija cheered, and she took herself out of the queue and punching in new coordinates in the Dreaming City.
"What-- where are we going?"
"Eh, nowhere, exactly? Private space outside, lots of those shrines and platforms and mountains and shit--free to practice unabashed for both of us. Guardians don't go often, and I know lots more hiding places than everyone else."
Sunny hung silent and Freija grinned at her. "I don't have very good armor for this," she admitted, "and I don't want to take it off while I'm there. So this will just be us trying to make stuff for better practice later."
"You've got to stop making excuses," Sunny teased.
"Yeah yeah yeah."
~
"Okay."
The white stone stuck out in the midst of the surrounding wildlife, almost as badly as the shining, fiery Titan standing on it.
"Lucky for you," Sunny declared, "I needed to find new ways to rotate my new shells."
Freija cocked her head to a side. "How did you do that, anyway?"
Sunny wheeled at her Guardian but didn't speak. Instead, she rotated to put her back directly into the sunlight and line her eye up with the shadow beneath. She wheeled her petals, then stretched them all out, wheeling front and back 180° in opposite directions. "These are much more fan-shaped, so I'll be able to do flowers better, but my stars..." The Ghost drifted off as she stretched her petals in four sets, front and back sets twisting in pairs. The different edges lined up to make points, so she stretched all eight up and turned them all to layer like scales in a circle, creating rounded points. "It'll pass," she murmured, turning to her Guardian, who stood with her mouth pursed shut and her shining eyes wide.
"You're not clumsy," Sunny told her before she got started. "You just don't realize how often you make difficult things look natural and easy."
"Practice," Freija grumbled. "Yeah yeah yeah. So, show me something simple that doesn't mean turning a limb into a picture? Or maybe go ahead and let me see if I can copy it. I can make shapes with my hands?"
Sunny wheeled thoughtfully. "I like the idea of you dancing with me, and I don't know if your hands count."
"Puppets count as far as I'm concerned, dancing is dancing."
Sunny giggled. "I can pull your strings? Hamstrings?"
The pair laughed and Sunny considered the steps she knew, and how many of them didn't involve full circles. (Not many.)
"Okay. You can't laugh at any names. But there's one that's Short Wave where I..."
She sent her petals out in arcs, moving each ninety degrees back and forth, back and front together.
Freija nodded, then moved her left hand ninety degrees from the elbow, then from her shoulder, then mixed the two where she lifted her elbows then folded her arm to touch her shoulder and stretched it out. "Any of those look good? Any kind of energy I'm trying to put forth? Or whatever? You know, artists are so fucking weird?"
Sunny giggled at her Guardian. "Most of the things we're going to translate easily are going to be fast paced and high energy, because the short motions usually are. I can double their count to slow them down, but they'll still be high energy."
"Ssssso, dance moves as invented by my Sunny Bunny Sunbeam," Freija teased. "So how about, instead of my translating one by one, you show me a short routine and we take that apart? Or did you need to make one up?"
"Actually-- yes, but you can definitely come up with your own footwork while I do that. There's--"
"Nine points on three layers, basically a cube, though you stayed pretty well in the middle," Freija interjected. "I noticed that one."
Sunny bonked Freija's chest, but the Titan just laughed. "Anyway, I can duck for the low points, but the high ones can only be jumping. I can hold for a bit, but you'll have to lower sooner or bounce for me."
Sunny wheeled and swung in the air, considering possibilities.
"But yeah, if I start mid-back left, I can follow with single steps and tap or wiggle something on off beats."
Sunny swayed again. "Shoulder wiggle would be good for this one," she suggested. "I use similar points of reference for my shell, with myself as the center of sixty-four points."
Freija gave a huge revelatory nod as her mouth opened wide. "Ohhh! So." She put a hand at her head, then stretched right above it, then extended her arm straight up.
"We're getting there," Sunny laughed.

I keep trying to write this but I don't know how to dance and I can't make any up for actual human-shaped people. The bit keeps making me think of the Simon Says emote, though, and I love the idea, so I keep trying.

No. 6: “Do or die, you’ll never make me; Because the world will never take my heart.”
You don't need to read the whole story. Every day can stand for its own. And that poor soul has to suffer through every single one of them, I promise!
Hummingbird 06
(Story starts here) previous
...He screamed from the top of his lungs. His heart wanted to jump out of his chest in painful jumbling beats. His arms felt like dead weight, his legs giving in. The torture stopped. Little electric impulses still on their way to leave him and slowly his world turned black.
His mind floated away to a point in time roughly 2 days ago.
...
"You don't need to come in tomorrow, Cooper."
Sam was dumbstruck and just stared back. More satisfaction in Harolds eyes. "We're letting you go."
...
'Yeah, he had lost his job! He had lost his job?'
Frantically Sam sucked in oxygen, as he suddenly came too again. 'What just happened? He was at work and now he was... strung up? Where was he?'
A firm slap to his face and he unfortunately remembered, that he had been drugged in the club, where he had tried to drown that shitty day. 'So he HAD actually lost his job.'
His mind was back and his body finally realised, that he was currantly being tortured by this freak, that was now and again calling him a fucking hummingbird.
Before he could get a complete picture of his situation again, the cattle prod was jammed into his other calf. His legs jumped again. He jerked in his restains. The pull on his wrists let him think, his arms were being seperated from his burning body. As if on queue his agitated left arm was also regarding his attention.
His heartbeat actually hurt with every frantic thud. His body was violently trembling, chains rettling loudly. But he could hardly hear his own screams above the rushing in his ears.
The buzzing stopped, his body was still slightly thrembling. Sam's head had lolled forward, too heavy to lift it again. Sweat was dripping from his face. His eyes closed and he tried very hard to keep conscious.
"So, now will you be my good little hummingbird again or do we have to go another round?" The voice was almost cheerish, but there was an undefinable edge at the end of his question. If Sam hadn't been too out of it, he would have almost mistaken it for some kind of plea. But his mind was playing tricks, despite his own blood rushing in his ears was muting the outside world almost beyond recognition.
Sam could hardly breath, even less speak, but he wouldn't barge. Gravity and limb muscles kept him hanging in his restrains, but he wouldn't give this creep the satisfaction of winning. His head was lifted slowly by the man's gloved hand, tears of pain and drops of sweat glistening on his cheeks. Sam's glacy eyes fixated onto his perpetrator. "Nee-ver. Sooo go'on... Aand s-s-eee. You jj-st made my pp-oin-t, mm-ister fuuckfac..."
The cattle prod was jammed right into the old scar above his heart. The man was furiously screaming at him.
"So, it's DO or DIE for you! YES? But YOU’ll never make me! Because the world will never EVER take my HEART! So, I'll just have to make you understand then! YES HUMMINGBIRD?"
The fizzling electrodes burning the cotton of Sam's sweat soaked shirt. His heart was surely ripped apart from the inside out right now. The pain was unbearable. The smell of burning flesh reached his nose. Another flash of white agony, like someone just pushed a gleaming knife right through his heart and the world stopped.

Implementation
Hardest part of any programming assignment. In
Plan your program
????
Profit!
Implementation is very much the ???? line.
Today's task is making something that can find its way around on a map and generate driving directions.
And it's worth breaking down what we're asking for, here.
For reasonably good first-try pathfinding, Depth-First Search (especially if you have the starting coordinates) works well, but if we want to be consistently finding the shortest route and don't mind a bump in how many nodes we look at to get our answer, Breadth-First Search will give us better results more easily. I've got a theory of how one could do DFS and modify it by slicing it up and testing each sub-path BUT a) that's literally only theoretical at the moment and b) I'm pretty sure that if I can get it working and it's superior to BFS for this task it'll still be harder to code, like how working with a search tree is more coding than working with a list.
TL;DR: BFS for now.
Breadth-First just means we put new info about our surroundings at the back of a queue and work with what we already found first. If you've got a robot in an open field (of what it sees as 5x5' squares because you apparently taught it spatial awareness using tabletop RPGs), its process will be,
Check for paths: North, East, South, West. We check both "has this space already been visited" and "can I walk here." If it's already been visited then going there will never be the shortest path because you're doubling back. Refusing to backtrack also precludes one possible kind of infinite loop.
All the valid paths get added to the back of the queue in the order they're looked at. They're also added to the "visited" list so that you can't have accidental double-visits: Picture 3 houses in a triangle. You check for paths, and add the paths from A to B and C. Then you go to B because it's next in the queue. If you haven't already counted C as visited it'll be added to the queue a second time. Note that if your question isn't "shortest path" you might want to record the presence of multiple paths to a goal including the longer ones.
Then you repeat this process from each location in the queue. So if you were at 0,0 your queue would be 0,1 - 1,0 - 0,-1 - -1,0 and then you'd go to 0,1 and add 0,2 and 1,1 and -1,1 to the back of the queue, and then you'd go to 1,0 and because you already added 1,1 to "visited" you wouldn't add it again, and so on.
Each time you do this you'd also check whether you were standing on the goal. If so you could return the path you took to get where you are as your driving directions, because the nature of BFS is to find the smallest number of hops. It's worth noting that if all hops are not created equal in terms of length you may need a different approach. I predict we'll get into weighted edges on graphs in a later week of this course.
Anyway you have two possible outcomes for this loop. If the queue runs out and you haven't found the goal, it's not on the map - or at least, isn't accessible with your standard movement options.

There is a light tilt of her head as she focuses back in, then the pain starts to register in her brain. Lottie winces as she looks down at her leg, the huge cut that she must have gained when he hadn’t noticed. It’s been getting harder to hide away that part of her - hard when she can’t access medication to help. But, she’s trying her best. “Shit!” She says as she looks at the cut, she almost says When did that happen? but stops herself as she realises how that could sound. Lottie thinks she must have walked to close to a broken brunch or something. “I... fuck it hurts.” She bends to try and get a better look at it.

yknow that scene in ca:ws where bar and steve kiss on the escalator?
what if that was you and bucky
I was watching this movie last night when you sent this in, and god I love the idea of this so I ran with it the best way that I could
"Stop doing that!" You hissed, and Bucky's head snapped back to you as the two of you swerved through the crowds as efficiently as you could.
"Well, I'm sorry for being a little worried that our cover has been blown." He rolled his eyes at you, but he did stop the incessant glancing around he had been doing, suspicious in the way he seemed quite so on edge.
"We're almost out, okay? Just a little further, and Nat is waiting outside in the van." You accidentally caught the gaze of a man in sunglasses, who was sitting alone at one of the coffee tables outside of a Starbucks within the mall. He wore a heavy frown, a coffee that was no longer steaming but the mug was entirely full as he stared, and you made sure your glance was fleeting.
Running your hand down his arm as the two of you approached the crowd that was gathering at the top of the escalator. As your fingers wove with his flesh ones, he stiffened, head snapping back to look at you once again as your bodies slowed to join the queue. "What are you doing?"
"I'm holding your hand."
"Yeah, I get that, but why?" He pressed, and you scoffed, a fonder roll of your eyes as you giggled in front of him, a little louder than normal to make a point.
"Because, Buck," Your voice dropped a little as you stepped in closer to him, his fingers instinctually curling back around your own, even if he was still confused about why. Despite the frown on his face and the furrow in his brows, you offered a wide smile, as though he'd said something funny, and his expression softened. "People don't look at couples as long or intensely as they do at individual people. So put your damn arm around my waist, and pretend you're in love."
He huffed, face smoothing out as you reached a finger up between his brows, and his eyes crossed as he watched you rub the worry lines away. Instead, he let his smile come through, swallowing thickly, and the crowd thinned, and you tried to ignore the skip in your heart as one gloved thumb slipped under the edge of your shirt to rub on your waist.
As you turned, stepping onto the steps of the escalator, you did a quick surveillance. Coming up in the reverse direction was two more men, similar to the one you'd seen at the coffee shop. Another in glasses, one in a leather jacket, but both had the same tattoo poking out from under their collars.
"Two more, coming out way." Bucky whispered, and you hummed as you turned back to him.
"Kiss me."
"What?" His voice sounded strained, eyes wide as he looked down at you, and you pulled him closer with a hand on his cheek.
"Public displays of affection make people uncomfortable,"
"Yes, they do!"
"Shut up." You muttered, pulling him closer, and pausing to take a breath when the scrape of his stubble against your cheek made you shudder. He closed the gap, warm lips pressing hungrily against your own, and he didn't hold back. It almost felt real, the enthusiasm and vigour with which he kissed you, lips coaxing your own to work with him. You melted a little, the arm around your waist all that was holding you up, even as he towered over you from standing a step taller in addition to his height, and you were spinning.
As you approached the end of the escalator, a beep sounded, the pair of you snapping apart as you did, just in time to disembark. His lips were shining when he ran his tongue over the lower one, hand squeezing your own tightly now, and you were weak in your steps, breathless as you took a few steps away from the automatic stairs.
There was a tug on your arms, the door only a few steps away, you could already feel the cold breeze from outside sweeping in, and you turned to face him. "What is it, Buck?"
"Nuh-uh, just c'mere." He tugged you closer, with enough force that you fell into his chest as you did, and his hand cupped your cheek. His lips crashed against yours, a soft moan spilling from your mouth as he sucked lightly at your lower lip, and this time, you really did melt. You rested against him, letting him hold you up like a pillar as your hands gripped at the jacket on his shoulders, scrabbling for anything just to ground you.
His tongue tangled with your own, lips a fervent dance as his hand slipped down from your face to your waist. It was stabilising, something you sorely needed as the scrape of his stubble left stings along your skin that felt like electricity. Your lungs were burning, and yet when you pulled away, you couldn't stay away for more than a second, gasping breaths before moving back in to steal more kisses from his lips, and he groaned into your mouth each time you did.
"Y'know, I've been rooting for you two for a while, but we really need to get a move on." Natasha was loud in your ear from your earpiece, a startling voice that made you jump, and as Bucky's forehead pressed against your own, his pants were washing over your lips with every heaving breath. "Any time you're ready."
"So, good tactic."
"Thanks, yeah." You couldn't find a voice anything higher than a whisper, and the tip of his nose brushed lightly with your own for a split second, before standing back to his full height. "We should practise that more."
"Definitely." He nodded, a serious look crossing his features, and something soft flickered behind his eyes as you grinned, though. "Later? After dinner?"
"Chinese food and a movie."
"Deal." He dipped his head down, sealing it with a kiss, just a peck, but it still made you giggle. Natasha coughed loudly into your earpiece, and you knew you should move, because anytime now you'd be surrounded on all sides, and so you forced yourself to walk, even if you were still dizzy from his kisses.

this is me trying; t.holland
Tumblr media
» pairing: tom holland x reader » song: this is me trying » word count: 1.6K
"Hey, you want to join us for movie night today?" Zendaya's voice brought you back to reality. You glanced at her, she was holding the door open while leaning her head in through the small space. There was a small smile on her face like she was too scared to show too much emotion in case it triggered you.
Shaking your head, you leaned further into your bed pulling the covers closer to your chin.
"Are you sure?" she asked again. Usually, she would've given up, but this time she was persistent. There weren't many nights left.
"I'm sure," you said blankly not looking at her. You turned your back towards her bringing the covers over your shoulder. You heard a small sigh followed by the door closing. You felt your throat tightening, the familiar knot making it difficult for you to lay in peace.
The warm tears started forming and it wasn't long before they were streaming down your face.
"I don't understand what the big deal is," his voice echoed as you walked down the hallway. Your hands were fists at your side and all you wanted to do was disappear. "I'm talking to you," he called out again hoping you would stop.
But you weren't stopping.
"Tell me why that's wrong?" he asked again. His voice settling into a softer tone realizing that raising his voice wasn't going to help. He was quickly walking now in the hopes to catch you. His fingers wrapped around your arm gently and you stopped.
"What's wrong? I told you I didn't want to go public, you went against what I specifically told you I didn't want. Why would you do that to me?" you asked the hurt in your voice piercing through his heart.
It hadn't been his intention. It'd slipped. It wasn't something he could take back now.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-" he rambled, but you jerked your arm away shaking your head. The last words you spoke directly to him rung in his head.
"It's over. We're done."
Sinking deeper into the mattress, you held on to the comforter tighter. The tears had dried, but the pain was still holding on tight. You'd seen Tom since then. Obviously, you had to. There was no way of escaping him while you promoting the film, but you hadn't spoken to him. Not directly. Not intentionally.
There was a knock again. This time you didn't react so you were surprised when the door opened slowly and in came the familiar figure again.
"It's not the same without you," Zendaya said sitting at the edge of the bed. She wasn't leaving this time. "Why don't you talk to him?" she asked. She knew everything. She was the one person you ran to, but recently you'd started to slowly isolate her too only leaving the hotel room when you had an interview or special appearance.
"He doesn't want to talk to me anyway," you mumbled. Your voice was muffled by the comforter.
"How do you know? Has he told you that?" Zendaya flopped on the bed, she rested on her side watching the back of your head. Her hand came up to the covers trying to them from your face.
You groaned pulling on the cover.
"He doesn't want me back. I was awful to him," you said remembering how everything went down. The look of hurt he had on his face. The way he'd tucked his hands into the pockets of his trousers and slowly backed away like you'd just accused him of the most horrible crime. The way he turned around and didn't look back. Not once.
"Did he say that?"
"No, but I know." That was the end of the conversation. And the last time you really spent time with her. Or with anyone no the cast for that matter.
"He's not here tonight, just come down for a bit." She pulled on your arm. Finally, you gave up. You let her lead you to the rest of the cast. Sitting down on one of the couches you pulled your sweater sleeves down so your hands saved in the fabric.
There was laughter and talking, but you spaced thinking of the times when you were on this very couch with Tom making jokes with everyone. Back before the world knew about the two of you. Before your world seemed to come down in flames.
-
It'd been almost a month. A month without Tom. You'd think a month would be long enough to forget about him, but time did not heal your wounds. You'd tried texting him. You missed him. But he never replied. You had no idea where he was or what he was doing. Did he go back home for a break or did he stay in the country to work?
He hadn't posted on Instagram. It was like he'd vanished into thin air, just like you'd wished for when you broke up with him. Which you had to remind yourself, you broke up with him. It didn't make it any easier.
Have you heard anything from Tom?
You'd given in and texted Zendaya, with who you'd patched things up. You couldn't bear to lose her too.
He's actually in town.
The reply was quick and it almost caused your heart to jump out of your chest. He was in town and you didn't know. She hadn't told you without prompting. Had he asked her not to?
The address to the hotel he was staying in flashed on your screen and your heart started jumping again. Thumping loudly, so loudly you could hardly hear yourself think.
It was late. Late enough that paparazzi wouldn't follow you. Late enough that Tom would probably be asleep. Late enough that maybe he wouldn't even want to talk to you if he was awake.
After pulling a few strings, you were standing outside his hotel room. Your hands cold in the pockets of your jacket. Taking out a hand, you formed a small fist knocking on the door gently. No response.
You waited, biting your lip and debating whether you should just go. Shaking the defeatist attitude, you knocked again. This time with a little more force.
It took a few seconds, but the door opened slowly and a shirtless Tom peaked his head through the small crack.
"Hi," you exhaled. You hadn't realized you were holding your breath until you saw him. There was a warm fuzzy feeling in your chest. Your heart was happy to see him.
"What are you doing here?" he asked rubbing his eyes. He had been sleeping.
"You didn't answer my text," you almost whispered. It was as if you'd forgotten how to speak, how to put words together to form a cohesive thought.
"What?" he said furrowing his brows, he still hadn't opened the door completely and you were standing outside his hotel room awkwardly playing with your fingers.
"I text you-"
"You broke up with me. Am I obligated to respond? I've been busy..." he added almost as if to soften the blow.
Stepping back at the sound of his raised voice, you nodded. "You're right. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have come." Walking backward, you apologized again turning on your heel, walking back towards the elevator. You heard the door close as you walked away cupping your hand over your mouth to block the ugly crying noises that were desperate to escape.
Pushing on the elevator button aggressively, you waiting for the ding. It felt like the longest seconds of your life. When the doors finally opened you stepped in. Again, the wait felt like an eternity. They were finally closing, but you saw an arm stop the doors.
It was Tom with his disheveled hair and a shirt. He'd put on a shirt.
"I didn't reply because it hurt too much," he confessed standing in front of you as the elevator doors closed. Your bodies shook as the elevator moved down and you held on to the railing to hold your ground.
"I wanted to. I wanted to reply, but you broke up with me." His voice cracked. You wiped some of the tears that'd started falling from your face. He was right.
"I'm sorry," you said finally looking at him. The tears were back, but you weren't wiping them this time. "I want to-" your voice cracked and your chest tightened. You stopped and inhaled deeply watching Tom stand in front of you with confusion.
"I want to try again. Please." Stepping forward you tried reaching for his hand, but he retracted it quickly running both hands through his hair and cupping one over his mouth.
"We can't-" he said softly the elevator doors finally opening. This was your queue.
"It's fine," you smiled forcefully shaking your head as he tried approaching. "It's okay. I'm going," you said pushing past him quickly leaving him dumbfounded on the elevator.
The air was cold as you stepped outside. Your tear-streaked face was faced with the cold wind and tucked your hands into your coat again silently sobbing as you aimlessly walked down the street.
"Wait!"
Were you hallucinating? Turning you saw Tom standing by the hotel entrance. He was walking towards you. Your feet worked quicker than your brain, you started walking towards him too. Each step quicker than the one before and soon enough you were face to face.
His breathing was heavy, his hands cold as they made contact with your cheeks.
"Let's try again," he whispered as he brushed his nose against yours. His lips only centimeters away from yours. Wrapping your arms around his body, you closed the gap. The tears that pooled on your cheeks coursed down your cheeks as you closed your eyes. Losing yourself in the kiss, you tightened your grip around him and his thumb gently wiped the tears.
You didn't know how things would work out, but you knew you wanted to be with him. Publicly or not. You'd never stop trying.

It's Gonna Be Okay

You giggled to yourself, a little delirious as you followed the directions through the queue. Scared of what you'd lived through, scared of what was coming, but hoping to suck it up and be strong.
At the end of the queue you were directed to your station, and the man in the scrubs turned in your direction. You could tell he had a big smile under his mask. For a moment you forgot everything that lead you to this point, but then you saw the syringe and felt your body tense up.
"Hi, I'm Bucky!" He was cheerful, calming, and he took your hand to bring you the last few steps to the chair. "What's your name?"
You mumbled it, and he leaned a little closer and asked you to repeat it and oh wow he smells so good but wait, wait needle Oh God ....
Repeating your name in a louder voice, edged in panic, you felt yourself squeezing Bucky's hand a little as he helped you sit. "Are you scared of needles?" He asked softly.
"Y-yes." You nodded, looking up into his eyes. So blue, gosh he was so handsome - you'd never been attracted and scared at the same time!
"Don't worry, I got you." He smiled, and picked up your other hand, swinging your arms with his lightly. "It's gonna be okay. Let's loosen up - loosey goosey, right? Nice and calm."
Your smile was back under your mask, a little giggle escaping. "Okay, Bucky."
"Now tell me, once this is done, what's the first thing you wanna do? Where do you wanna go?"
In some part of your mind you knew he was trying to distract you. Vaguely aware of the cold and wet alcohol swab on your upper arm, you were still able to focus on his question, looking only at him as you answered. "There's this bar by my apartment and I haven't been there in a year. It's a rooftop bar and you can see the skyline and I miss it so much." You described it a little more, mentioning the name, getting lost in the memories and the look of concentration on his face before you felt a pinch. It was over before you knew it, and you glanced at your arm as Bucky carefully placed the bandaid. He caught your eye, giving you a wink, and took your hands again to help you stand.
"Okay, doll," he squeezes your hands and you caught your breath, "you're all set." He explained where to go to sit for the 15 minute waiting period. "And I know that place - I live right by there."
"You do? We're neighbors?"
"Yeah! Maybe I'll find you there soon, and we can chat without me stabbing you in your arm."
You laughed, reluctant to let go of his hands and walk away. "I'd like that, Bucky. Thanks for taking care of me."
"It was my pleasure," he waved as you backed away, turning to greet his next patient and you drifted on a cloud to the recovery area.
Maybe the world was getting better...
