Having recently review Knowing for my Nicolas Cage series, I was weary heading into this Alex Proyas joint. But I am pleased to report that this is totally worth a watch and earns its status as a cult classic. For a movie called Dark City, let this be a lesson for contemporary filmmakers in how to LIGHT a film, if nothing else.

The plot is somewhat convoluted (but never that confusing). If you can hang tight through the opening act, which is just an onslaught of information, then you'll be fine. Because it's in that onslaught — some of the most creative and interesting visual storytelling I've come across — where the rewards lie.

Kong (PAWAT CHITTSAWANGDEE aka OHM) arrives at the condo and is joined by Phali (HIRUNKIT CHANGKHAM aka NANI) who is also naked but with a reason.

Apparently he was with a woman with a boyfriend. A boyfriend that caught him with his lady and wants retribution.

Borrowed towels ends this naked run. Well the running continues but at least now they are partially covered.

Che cosa ho fatto quest'anno?

Sicuramente ho lavorato. Tante ore, tanti giorni. E per altrettanto tempo mi sono sentita stanca e stressata. Ho messo da parte un po' di soldi ma avrei voluto fare di più onestamente.

Ho preso un sacco di treni, sono stata a Padova e Treviso un sacco di volte. La maggior parte delle volte è stato bello, soprattutto Padova. Soprattutto per le persone con cui uscivo (ma anche le città in sé sono belle, lo devo ammettere). Vorrei conoscere meglio Padova, e scoprire tutto ciò che ho dato per scontato di Treviso.

Sono stata a Bassano del Grappa per la prima volta.

Mi sono tinta con l'henné per la prima volta (e conto di rifarlo presto).

Sono entrata in un gruppo BDSM, ho partecipato ad un play party (troppa confusione, ma istruttivo), sto conoscendo gente nell'ambiente.

Ho fatto l'undercut. Speriamo bene.

Gloria mi ha fatto anche iniziare "A League of Their Own", non so se riusciremo a finirlo entro il 31 ma I regret nothing 'cuz it's really beautiful e poi sarebbe un ottimo modo di iniziare il 2023.

#Anime visti: abbastanza, considerando che ho iniziato anche cose più lunghe tipo HxH. Cruncyroll it's a bitch perché ti mette gli episodi gratuiti fino ad un tot e poi devi pagare, ergo ho in ballo 2/3 cose che non riesco a finire (ma a sto giro non è colpa mia). Pazienza.

#Libri letti: pochi, ma interessanti. Non quelli della lista, ma ci sto lavorando. È difficile trovarli, e poi da giugno a ottobre praticamente lavoravo e basta quindi non avrei potuto leggere neanche volendo.

Overall I really liked this show. I went in with low expectations because their remakes of shows have been so bad recently, but I was happily surprised. This review is about a week late cause I hadn’t had the chance to do this.

Thoughts *includes spoilers*

I am very much a multi shipper with this one, including just aroace Wednesday in general: Wednesday and Enid, Enid and Ajax, Bianca and Lucas, Wednesday and Bianca, Wednesday and Xavier, really anything

I really liked that they had the Wednesday from the movie in show and that she wasn’t just a cameo either

I had an idea that Tyler was the Hyde but honestly I thought the master was going to be the therapist

I’m going to miss the therapist and the principal. Especially the principal

I want to know why Xavier and Tyler have that connection

Mortician was hot. The hair, the dress, the everything. I too would get framed for murder for her

I loved the disparity between Enid and Wednesday’s sides of their room. It showed how different they are but how they work anyway

I now have to figure out how to knit or crochet some of Wednesday’s clothes for me and my boyfriend

so tonight iiiiii ripped up the transport network in my CS city and am in the process of turning the metro into trains and relocating the station in Bottom. and i moved central station to where the uni was, and moved the uni to a little bit left of where central was... anyway everything is broken, and i shut the game so that i could watch the auction end on wot, and now it’s 2.36am and i’m too lazy to open the game again. but yeah i am finally learning everything that moveit is capable of?! finally/about fucking time lmao. so now i’m obsessed with ctrl+h-ing everything. i’d use the slope tool too, but it only worked once for me, and now it’s fucking up by dumping a node 5000 metres into the ground

(i forgot to take screenshots before shutting the game.) anyway i may turn central station into a ground station... but you know what? no. i’ve just decided i won’t. i think. lol. because i want to use the underneath bit for trams. or do i.........

urgh, actually, tomorrow (or whenever i next play), i should make the train bridge across the inlet thing, like, right next to the big bridge, and then perhaps that will dictate the height of the rails/stations all around the ... bay. yeah. 

and i should finish off the ground line through Bottom, Unique Factory Valley (need to add station), Forestry/Oil, and Farming (also need to add station), and then maaaaybe add the Airport station at the end of that line, and connect up the airport, and watch the traffic clog everything... hahaha. (and going in the opposite direction from Bottom, i’m gonna call that next station Town Hall, and then perhaps it terminates at the stadium/sports area. maaaybe. i might not use that stadium with the in-built train station then. or mAYBE I WILL). Also, i want an express from Town Hall to Airport eventually.

I turned this off less than thirty minutes in. Shocking that the debut film of Vin Diesel (who also serves as writer and director!!) about a crew of immensely homophobic NYC degenerates (and Mike Epps, who is too good to be anywhere near this crap) didn’t hold my attention. This is further proof that literally any indie movie could get made in the mid-90s. It’s also proof that I need to have my head examined for putting this on the watchlist to begin with! What the F is wrong with me?! Just take a gander at the editing/writing in the intro…

Verbatim from my notes: “This is the worst thing I have ever seen.” And though I didn’t stick around to definitively prove that statement, I still have no qualms issuing Strays (1997) the uber-rare score of ZERO.

WIP wednesday

Back on my bullshit (sad brassian in under-described liminal spaces) and actually have a WIP on WIP wednesday for the first time in ::checks calendar:: we do not speak of it.

In which Cassian hits a snag on the way home from Mimban, but luckily Brasso has terrible taste in men.

The code sending the comm belongs to Pellan, a hook up from months ago; a Pre-mor flunkie on a stopover between outposts, half out of uniform when he met Brasso and keen to lose the rest.

The face when he opens it, though, is a stretched-out, scruffed-up version of - “Cassian?”

“Yes! I fucking told you.” This is to someone off screen, presumably Pellan, and in a voice several tones lower than Brasso expected. In profile, Cassian's face is sharper and grubbier than it first seemed, and framed by an embarrassing set of adolescent mutton chops that dream of one day becoming a beard. It'd been Brasso's situation, the last time they saw each other. Maarva has a holo of them from that time, and looking at himself in it makes Brasso feel old.

“Do you know this person?” Pellan asks, shouldering his way on screen.

He doesn't know Pellan that well. He can't tell where they are from the background of the holo: it's just their faces and a patch of suspiciously sterile patch of wall.

“He does! Brasso, you know me and you know how sick my mother is -”

“Stop talking.” Pellan's tone isn't mean enough to raise Brasso's hackles. It's the tone he remembers everyone taking around - fucking hell, Cassian - back when he was mouthy and undersized and keen to bite the underbelly of every bigger kid on the block. “Just. Sit down again. Brasso -” 

There's some shuffling and a floating shot of Pellan's jaw as he takes himself and his comm out of Cassian’s considerable range of interference. It has the same mutinous set Brasso remembers from the bar.

“We have a slight situation here, and I do not want it to end up as a full situation, because in full situations I fill out sixteen different scandocs and people with ‘sector’ in their job title learn my name. Your friend is trying to get through the corporate border on a military pass, which is legal but -” a tired grimace “- against company policy, so I'm supposed to tell him it's faulty and he has seven days to fix it, after which I can bust him for loitering if he doesn't find a new chip or falsifying access information if he does, and he'll go to Imperial custody and toward my arrest number, or he can lodge an appeal under the long term residency exemption, which will automatically be approved but he'll be on an undisclosed Imperial watchlist for five years and someone will have to file a report on his movements every forty five days, and that someone will not be me, but that someone will unlock a cross team performance incentive if they achieve a ten per cent uplift on watchlist detentions cycle on cycle, so good luck with that. And then of course you're a named associate of a detained watch listed individual, so you go on the list, and someone reports on you every forty five days, and you also count toward our detention uplift target for the quarter, so.” 

There's a pause for Brasso to react. When he doesn't, Pellan feels compelled to add, “That's bad.”

“Right.” It was almost definitely the wrong call to answer this comm before getting dressed. 

“Right! So I suggested maybe he'd had his scandocs stolen and I could issue him a temporary pass if he just had a few key details, but they were issued when he was in prison - I should not have heard that he was in prison, Brasso, that's 101 - and he's never seen them, so he doesn't know the most basic things -”

“His mother will have -”

“His mother is apparently deathly ill and cannot possibly get on a shuttle to bring him anything, which would be terrible if it were true. My sympathies to that woman, in potentia. However, because he is technically an unaccompanied minor for the next, uh, seventeen hours, I can notarise an individual known to the family to collect him and produce a copy of his stolen documents on her behalf. So this is me officially notarising you, and also letting you know that if you take seventeen hours to get here I'm going to strangle him.”

Brasso has several questions about an unaccompanied minor being on a military pass and that not being a flag unto itself, but at least he knows how old Cassian is now. “Where are you?”

“Gate B, so like, two moons from you? Hey, should have called more, sorry neighbour. But seriously, whatever operation you're running needs to tighten up because ‘prison’, pri-son, is an extremely automated red flag and if I had bothered to do any basic system maintenance in the last six months there would be a half dozen alerts on their way to Pre-Mor by now.”

Operation, Brasso mouths, dully. He's starting to think he and Pellan remember that night very differently.
