I partnered with LocallyGrownAvocado for the Vikturri Fluff Bang! Their fic is titled Codetta, and it’s an AU featuring Victor as a violist. I played for a long time, so this was a really fun, nostalgic project. I’m glad I got to be part of it!

You watch over the spines in a neighboring aisle as I giggle at the same jokes I’ve read over hundreds of times, as I yell at the protagonist for his unending stupidity, as I cry over the cliché ending where the love interest dies too soon. You watch as I close the book, hold it reverently to my chest, before I slip it back on the shelf and leave, a smile creasing my face and tears dripping from my jaw.

You see me, but you never say anything.

I wish you would.

You continue to watch me day after day, this bookworm that can’t get enough of a story that drowns me in misery. You read your own books - mysteries, tragedies, romance - but mine is always the same. You grow curious, until one day you wait until I leave, go and read it for yourself.

I’m not there to see you. How you laugh and yell and cry. How you fall in love with the same book I come back for day after day.

The next day I come back, but you aren’t there.

You aren’t there to see my surprise when I find the note hidden between chapter three and four, stuck right below the first line where the protagonist meets the love of his life. You don’t see my smile as I whisper to myself what you wrote with the pen you keep tucked behind your ear.

“I fell in love on a Tuesday in March watching a man fall in love with a story. I wonder what his name is, this beautiful person that laughs and cries with his whole heart. This person that makes me smile without even trying. This person that is a slave to the writings of a man that died decades ago. I envy his joy, his wonder that never fails to grow though the story never changes. I envy this book that holds his undivided attention as he cradles it so gently.

“Listen,” Victor says as he takes Yuuri’s hands in his. They’re rough and calloused, tiny scars adorning his arms from his time in the laboratory.

Victor thinks they’re beautiful all the same, kisses the parts where the small specks of flesh are marred with jagged white.

“What?” Yuuri laughs, and Victor reaches out to him, tucks a lock of his hair behind his ear.

Having his heart beat this fast because of a boy is such a foreign feeling, Victor realizes. It’s quite different from when it’s pounding against your ears because somebody is out to get you, different when you’re not on high alert looking out for booby traps hidden in the ground.

He feels every beat, every pulse of it flowing through him, and he embraces it.

He feels like home.

“We’re going to come out of this alive. I promise you,” He says, and he means it. He and Yuuri raise their palms together, and the soft glow emanates from Victor’s hands, sealing the promise as he places a kiss on Yuuri’s lips. “Okay?”

“Okay."

Summary:

Yuuri carried the box to Viktor’s room and placed it along the wall next to the others.  As he turned to leave, there was something about the quality of the light and the way it spilled across the bed and the pillow Viktor had used.  The rest of the room was dark, except for that one sunbeam, highlighting where Viktor had slept when he was there.  

Sighing, Yuuri sat down on the bed and looked down at Viktor’s pillow, remembering a time when the light had been just like this and how it had cast a golden glow on Viktor’s skin and lit up his hair…   Yuuri reached out and let his fingertips caress the pillow case, wishing again that Viktor was there with him.

He pulled out his phone and snapped a picture of the light on Viktor’s pillow.  He sent the image in a text to Viktor with a simple message: I miss you.

The reply was almost immediate: a wide angle selfie of Viktor lying on his bed in Saint Petersburg, his hair tousled and a faint smile on his lips.  His head rested on the left hand pillow and his free hand pointed at the pillow to his right.

 I miss you, too.  This one is for you when you get here.

Yuuri wiped away sudden tears.  Two weeks?  The waiting was killing him.

The story is now FINISHED!!!!  YAY!!!!
