Your blog feels like somewhat of a safe haven because you seem like a very reasonable person, which is why I feel safe saying this here only. Some of the responses to L*udna calling Im*gen sister make me very uncomfortable. People literally saying that m*risha is wrong about her character or that it doesn't mean anything, or that laudna doesnt know how she feels. It reminds me of my least favorite aspect of the Fandom, where people will decide how they think the characters feel or think about something or how they would act in a given circumstance, and then in their minds it becomes Canon and they get frustrated when the actors (who in dnd are the storytellers) don't act upon their Canon. This is different than just being disappointed that a ship you like didn't become Cano, IMO. I really like Imogen but I LOVE laudna, and I feel like a lot of the times she is reduced to just be Imogen's other half, and now that people denying what marisha says her character thinks, saying she's wrong, being mad at the choice, it makes it hard to interact with the fandom on this site because I feel like I can't talk about Laudna or Imogen without it circling back to their relationship. My favorite pairings in C1 were Vex and Percy and Vex and Keyleth and I feel like I didn't have this problem as much with them but also I wasn't as deep on the internet or in fandom back then. :(

Thank you so much for this - it’s really nice of you!

I don’t have a ton to add or say about this, honestly; the post I reblogged about it said it better than I could. This has always been what put me off the ship as it exists in the fandom: I’m not opposed to Imogen and Laudna becoming a couple, but the fanon is deeply boring while also being all consuming and crystalized before the end of the first episode. It’s frustrating, as someone who enjoys both Imogen and Laudna, to try to talk about them without getting obnoxious responses to anything that even hints there might be misunderstandings or conflict between them. It lessens their characters and the work both Marisha and Laura have put in. It makes it impossible to explore their flaws, and it makes everything about them uncompelling, when they are both very interesting characters. I’ve found Laudna especially to be coming into her own in this Team Issylra arc.

The fact is, Laudna said what she said. It doesn’t mean a romance is impossible, but I think it’s genuinely indicative of how Laudna feels at this time. Which to be honest matches how I’ve felt regarding Laudna’s feelings about Imogen from early on! I think Imogen is romantically interested in Laudna, but I think Laudna has always seen Imogen in a more familial way, and I don't know if it's fair to her to try to explain that as just Laudna's insecurities. I also think it's possible Imogen has exacerbated those insecurities - if I were Laudna, I’d be feeling a certain way about Imogen’s exploration of the validity of the Vanguard, and I might even still be feeling the unresolved pull of the gnarlrock fight.

I can’t speak to Campaign 1 ships specifically since I watched that campaign after it had already finished, but at the very least Imodna has felt notably different to me in that usually people talk about at least one of the parties of a popular ship as an individual, even if they reduce the other to nothing. Here it feels like they both get folded into ship fodder. I’ve also seen a really strong trend of people tagging fanart of one of the characters alone, without the other, with the ship name, and that feels new compared to past campaigns and popular ships though the obvious cynical answer is just that the ship is more popular than the characters on their own and so artists are just trying to get eyes on their work in the most effective way. And as I’ve said a few times, the fact that Laudna’s death was more than once referred to as throwing the ship away has stuck with me as an illustrative moment. I think the fandom response to this ship is different than some past ones, and not in a good way.

With that said, I am trying, despite myself, to practice good faith here. I’ll admit that I’ve had enough bad faith interactions with fans of the ship such that it’s no longer an option when I get reblogs on my posts or anons in my inbox. But in terms of what might transpire in the hypothetical situation where Imogen and Laudna end the campaign without becoming romantically involved, I would like to give those who ship it the chance to respond with grace rather than assuming they will not.

the thing about keyleth waking up and not remembering where Vax is:( I don't know if she calls him, or post freak out remembers where he is, or maybe he left a sticky note on her phone reminding her he's not there right now. but imagine if she did call him and he tells her he's just at vexs, and how it hits her that she Forgot and she was so distressed and how that must feel when she tries so hard to fight through and hide it😭

and off topic ish it got me thinking about her struggling to sleep alone (I mean she already had a hard time being alone before the earthquake bur I imagine being isolated, in the dark and being Very hurt for a long time would only make it worse) but also during recovery how tired she is all the time cause of the meds and the stress of her body healing, pt, trying to work etc, maybe on some of the harder days she'll call percy and he'll come over and work while she sleeps beside him? let's be honest ontop of him:,) IM SORRY THAT GOT LONG OK BYE -crispy

I imagine her calling him and him reminding her of where he is, and her face just falls and she wants to cry so fucking back but she doesn't want him to worry so she just laughs it off and apologizes. And she does have a little cry to herself.

I think that sometimes it is actually so nice to laugh about it. It takes a little bit for her to convince the others that it's fine to joke about her memory issues and it actually makes it easier not to take it as hard when she forgets something if they don't make a big deal of it and make a joke instead.

And Percy builds her a nightlight that makes it so much easier to sleep because when she wakes up, it's not dark. And I absolutely love everyone tag teaming it and making sure someone is staying with Keyleth during her recovery so she never wakes up alone.

its called "if i went and hurt my body (would you love me the same)" on ao3 and i literally spent exactly two years writing it!

its a Soulmark AU focused on Vax'ildan and his relationships to his Marks and the people he loves.

there are allusions to vax's relationships with all of vox machina, most of which can be interpreted as romantic or platonic according to preference, except for three.

vax and vex have each other's Marks, but their relationship is NOT romantic.

vax has gilmore's Mark, and has explicitly romantic feelings towards him.

vax does NOT have keyleth's Mark, but has explicitly romantic feelings towards her.

this fic is meant to be an exploration on (what i see as) vax'ildan's polyamory and his own self-esteem, specifically in relation to being polyamorous. im poly myself, and i related very deeply to vax's struggles with his feelings for gilmore and keyleth when i watched c1. and even though its been years since i last rewatched c1, i wanted to write something about this character i had fallen in love with.

over the past two years, this fic has received so much genuine support, attention, and love from the critrole community and i couldnt be happier. ive been a part of the cr community for around 2.5/3 years, and it is one of the kindest most loving fandoms ive ever been a part of. writing this fic was a hell of a journey, and every single person who commented, left a kudos, or even just read it means the world to me.

On a similar grumpy note, I wish I could stop being recommended all of these posts talking about how Im*gen will recognize V*x because she looks just like La*dna. That's not - those bodies were very loosely similar to VM at best. They cut L's ears. they slapped red paint in the hair of one of them to look like K. They covered L in furs and put her next to a bear. The gnomes were children who were not gnomes but happened to be the right size and hair color. These were not exact - some weren't even close except in height and whatever designs got put on them.

I get the urge to maximize the drama here, but it wasn't like that. Folks are digging holes for angst in dry wells. Im*gen isn't going to look at V and hate her for what L could have been, certainly not by looks alone. If that happens it will be due to some serious bending of canon - and to great effect, I'm sure - and on top of that, we don't even know if L told her about VM or, if she did, that Im*gen even knows that's who they might meet. I can't stress enough - we don't even know they're going to meet anyone but Keyleth and Pike. Idk where everyone got that we were gonna see Vex and Percy from. Keyleth said to follow her to someone who could help. Keyleth is a high-level druid who could do a lot of this herself and if she's calling on someone else it's probably Pike. And I really don't think Matt is gonna run the entirety of VM unless as an expression of love to his players. I really don't know what will happen. But I am baffled that everyone else seems to think they do.

Edit: I've been informed this is showing up in tags for L and Im*gen even though I'm specifically working to avoid that. I don't want to have to asterisk everything in order to be able to have a private vent but I guess I will if I need to. Before anyone else comes to call me names, know that this was always intended to be for my blog only.

Stress waved Jevin inside. "Is that everybody who's coming?"

"I think so, yeah."

Stress led Jevin to a sizable room deeper in her castle, decorated heavily with purple glass and allium flowers, where Xisuma and Joe waited and Doc paced.

"This must be everyone," Doc agreed anxiously. "Whatever's killing us even took down Falsie with barely a fight! How many of us could possibly have gotten away?"

"There are a few hermits who didn't feel the need to come here for security," Joe replied. "Tango and Cleo, of course - Jevin, I'm surprised you dropped by, although of course there's nothing wrong with that - and then Zedaph, TFC, and Iskall have all found safety in their own homes."

"I fink Iskall's comin' here, actually," Stress corrected.

Joe perked up. "Oh that's fantastic, then! Hopefully he makes it here with all his blood where it's supposed to be."

"Yeah," Stress answered absently, poking through some chests. "Better 'ere than goin' for somebody else, that way I can deal wiv 'im."

"Wait," Xisuma realized. "You said deal with him?"

They were interrupted by an angry hissing near the door - not the single rush of air of a creeper, but something harsher, somehow both more human and completely inhuman.

"That'll be 'im, then. Ah!" Stress finally found what she was looking for: a wooden sword. "Right, I'm going out there."

Jevin eyed Stress's choice of weapon skeptically. "Do you... want some backup?"

Stress unfastened her allium flower crown and looped it around her neck. "I got a handle on this, fanks! You can come along if you want, though, seein' as I don't fink 'e'll go for you. Here, hold this."

Jevin took the allium offered to him. "Uh. Okay."

Stress strode out to the entrance of her castle. There, the two of them saw... Iskall.

He stood at the doorway, not approaching further. His right eye was red, and there was a reddish glow behind the diamond in his left. As Stress came closer, Iskall bared sharp fangs.

"Iskall is a vampire??" Jevin blurted.

"Yep." Stress walked right up to him. Iskall made a motion as if to lunge, but halted some distance from her neck. Stress rolled up her sleeves, showing off another allium tied around her right wrist like a bracelet... then plunged the wooden sword directly into Iskall's heart.

Iskall let out another hiss as he vanished. Stress breathed a sigh of relief and returned her allium necklace to her head with a pin. "An' that's that. I hate to do it, but sometimes 'e just gets like that."

"What." Jevin stared, dumbfounded. "What just happened. What about the other hermits?"

"Oh, now that the vampire what drained 'em is dead, everyone will have the chance to respawn normally," Stress explained. "Includin' Iskall himself. 'E'll feel kinda hungover an' probably really guilty, but 'e'll be actin' normal again for a while."

"How did you know that... any of this would work?"

Stress laughed. "Are you kidding me? Wiv how long I've known Iskall? This ain't the first time this has happened. It's 'alf the reason I keep so many alliums around, besides the fact that they're pretty. Gotta be careful when you're neighborin' a vampire!"

So we've been talking for weeks about how this is a doomed story with no happy ending, no way of winning. But watching this last episode I feel like thats not actually right? These characters will die. These few stories we know won't have a 'happy' ending. But even if every single person from this city die before this calamity is over, they didn't lose. This is the the very start but everyone fighting here is the reason even a third of Exandria does survive in the end. A third survives, we know exactly how far Exandria manages to regrow and they do win in the end.

Trick Foot

Based on the events of C1 episode 8! Liam said Vax was ticklish and later said Vax giggle-snorts and well. I had to do something about that. Wrote this in fifteen minutes like a man possessed and did not proofread it. Enjoy!

“Pike, we can talk about this.” Vax holds his hands out in front of him, a smile wobbling on his lips.

“I would love to.” Pike’s grin is absolutely devilish. Shed of her armor, she perches upon Vax’s calf, hands glowing with gentle divine light.

“This doesn’t seem like—mmph!—good healing practice!”

“Stop questioning Pike and start staying still.” Vex scribbles her nails up his other foot before disappearing out of their little alcove, still searching for Grog with her Hunter’s Mark.

“I still can’t believe you’re ticklish.” Pike takes gentle grasp of his injured foot again, dragging unbearably light fingertips to restore the melted flesh to its full capacity. Vax flinches hard, burying his smile into a white-knuckle fist. Pike pauses again.

“I, for one, am grateful. It’s rather effective pest control.” Percy grins where he’s cleaning his guns, glasses glinting mischievously in the light of the campfire. Vax sticks out his tongue.

“Well, Percival—“

Vax’s remark is cut short by his own squeal as he crumples. Pike readjusts her iron grip to account for his squirming legs. He reaches up for her, squinting through mirthful eyes, but her knuckles raking rapidly across his foot send him crashing back down. She scratches with gentle, evil fingers, and the scarred bits of flesh flake away to reveal new skin underneath.

He lets loose a slew of syllables and half-baked pleas, drumming his heels into the makeshift-cushion beneath them. Her raw power would be decidedly awesome if it didn’t tickle like hell.

“Does this one have a volume dial?” Percy sighs, strapping Bad News back into its holster.

“Sorry.” Pike doesn’t sound the least bit remorseful. “It’s gonna take a while.”

“Oh nohoho,” Vax whines, trying to yank his foot away, but Pike is strong—stronger than he gives her credit for. She starts pinching at the remains of his little toe, sculpting it back into shape like a sad lump of clay.

“Say, Pike, do you require assistance? Wouldn’t want you to bear the terrible burden of healing alone.” Percy saunters over and stretches, the perfect picture of bullshit nonchalance.

“Oh, no I’m—“ Pike looks down at Vax, then Percy’s wicked grin, then understands— “I would love some assistance.”

“Perfect.” He promptly takes a seat by Pike.

“No, nonono, stay away assface—“

Percy grabs hold of Vax’s good foot, the perfectly fine one that doesn’t need healing, and pulls it into his lap. Vax tries to bring it down on Percy’s groin, but his grip is far too solid.

Percy scribbles his fingers curiously over Vax’s foot. Vax giggle-snorts and curls his toes, ignoring the light sting emanating from his damaged foot.

“Oh, now that’s adorable.” Percy actually beams, just endearing enough to earn a tease, but Percy quickly divests him of his ability to speak with fingers worming beneath his toes.

Vax clamps his arms across his torso and gives his most convincing impression of a worm. Percy’s calloused hands are almost worse than Pike’s, gods above. He arches his back and tosses his head, dark hair falling loose from its ponytail.

“T-Tickles!” Is all Vax can manage through a squeak, kicking hard under their grip. He manages to squirm away, but Pike and Percy reel him back in with ease.

“Like herding cats, this one.” Percy bumps Pike’s shoulder.

“You’re telling me. He kicked me earlier.” Pike grumbles, wiggling her fingers a little more than necessary for a brief moment. Vax bucks and almost catches her jaw again.

“Vax’ildan,” Percy mock-gasps, stilling his fingers enough for Vax to speak.

“I said s-sorry!” His voice landed somewhere shrill long ago and can’t seem to drop to its usual octave.

“So ungrateful for our wonderful Cleric here.” Percy kneads into his calf, which is illegal on all counts, and Vax shrieks with all his might.

Pike’s hands continue their dastardly work, scritching at a spot just beneath his toes that coaxes more snorts from him. Percy travels upwards towards his knee, the bastard, and Vax manages to knee him in the chin. Accidentally, of course.

“Aaand, done!” Pike releases him with a flourish and a proud grin. Vax instantly reels his legs close to his body, residual giggles rising out in waves. Percy chases the retreating limbs with deft fingers, then reaches up to cradle his jaw.

“Next time, we should make more progress. This was a good start.” Pike’s hands flare quickly as she brushes them off.

“Next time?” Vax’s voice breaks.

“Oh, yeah. You’re good to go for now, but we’ll have to keep tending to this. The last thing you need right now is an infection.” Pike stands and cracks her back.

“You’ll be the death of me, both of you.” Vax rubs a hand over his face, a few chuckles bubbling out. Pike tucks the stray hair behind his ears, which would’ve been sweet if Vax didn’t immediately crumple into laughter again.

“Better us than anything else.” Percy claps Vax’s still-shaking shoulder. “Get some rest, Giggles.”

“Sleep with one eye open.” Vax narrows his eyes at Percy as he retreats to his makeshift workstation.

Okay, I cannot take the time to flesh this out properly right now, but just, a single, percolating thought, about Vex vs Jester, specifically:

Vex being a deeply defensive character- in motivations, in actions, in how she loves people and how she approaches the world.

Versus Jester, who takes everything and everyone on with an inherently offensive approach- in love, in socializing, in kindness, in danger and deals with hags.

There are lines between acting protectively, being a protector, and trying to protect (yourself and others). And I can’t give it the words it deserves rn, but oh there’s something there, isn’t there.

i think almost every single issue i have with the cr fandom can be summed up with the responses that i got when i said “molly is yasha’s soulmate”.

there’s so many problems with this one i’ll just take it from the top.

yasha was not confirmed a lesbian (by someone else, btw) until we were in the triple digits. this fandom hates the possibility of bi women so bad it’s embarrassing. y’all know how often i see people call keyleth and vex het? and allura a lesbian?

yes, AND? how does her being a lesbian invalidate her having a soulmate who isn’t a woman. how. i’ll wait. as far as i know “lesbian” means “is attracted solely to women/women adjacent people”. why do soulmates have to have anything to do w attraction.

“gross, yasha is not attracted to a man”

sigh.

first off, see the first point, soulmate does not necessitate attraction.

second off, even if it did, mollymauk is not and never was a man--or at least not solely. and he’s not a cis man, goddammit, which is what the more insidious version of this argument looks like--”yasha isn’t attracted to a cishet man”. also he’s BI.

this wasn’t a late reveal or anything either. in EPISODE GODDAMN TWO we have confirmation of nonbinary molly.

i don’t have the time energy or brain to get into ace shit here and trust me i’ve been treated horribly by both allos and aces alike for how my identity presents itself but i will just say this

i have never been sexually attracted to anyone i’ve had sex with.

i have never been ROMANTICALLY attracted to anyone i’ve had sex with.

i like having sex.

i also know kind of a LOT of people who have sex with people who are “outside” of their identity. this isn’t an uncommon thing, very online tumblr gays.

for some reason people HATE that here. but my point is: if yasha and molly were fucking it doesn’t change anyone’s identity and it didn’t have to involve any attraction at all, and if you don’t want to see that that’s absolutely valid but it does NOT give you the right to read every thoroughly tagged fic and leave nasty hate comments or worse for the author because of it. (i’m looking at you, allos who decided to run ace fjorclay shippers off the internet.)

and last but not least, the fact that so many people violently object to this statement that i made--angry, indignant, accusing me of hatespeech, etc, when it’s word for word something that ashley said, right next to where she was comparing molly to, y’know, yasha’s literal wife. so. i can’t imagine how mad certain people would get if i made that comparison myself.

which brings me to my final point: i’m not sure that some of y’all are actually watching the same show as i am and it is very annoying for the rest of us.

As you warm up to them and begin attending their practices daily and getting closer, Aran just starts getting more and more impressed about how funny you can be.

Your antics and pouts totally make him laugh.

Suna probably strikes this relationship with you where he plans pranks and you're just gutsy enough to execute them. You're also more likely to get into trouble but whatever. While he's just recording you from somewhere

So he thinks you're really cool :] and you can really just tease him mercilessly and he wouldn't mind.

Kita just finds you so capable and brilliant, but he's also pretty shy by how confident and cool you are.

So this is a school for rich kids, luv I think everyone is rich and unfazed 😭🤚

You become the team's manager because your teacher says it's a "hard position" and "no one has managed to keep it for long" which definitely just fuels your need to be the best at it.

But it doesn't go without careful planning, you wait at the gym to greet the members without revealing yourself as their manager.

You meet Ushijima first, and he's as silent and stoic as ever, which leads you to start teasing him and asking for attention.

Which he doesn't grant you. As you know Ushijima, he's probably gonna get annoyed :(

Ugh farmer boy doesn't know how to loosen up and have fun can someone teach him how to be cool?

So NGL you're a bit disheartened, until you meet your next favourite human being, Tendou Satori.

He just starts cracking jokes and matching your energy pretty well, you guys vibe so well together!!

And you feel like thinks might just be looking up. You plan on telling Tendou you'll be their new manager, when you meet another member of the team.

Goshiki is just a blushing mess when he sees you. I feel like he would not know how to act around girls and his brain just short circuits when he sees someone as BEAUTIFUL as you are.

You probably spot his nosebleed and joke with him, gently wiping his face with a tissue.

Which of course, causes him to faint on the spot, can we get an f in the chat for him?

Tendou helps him up and you're just laughing silently whilst coming face to face with Semi Eita.

So you're totally the type to be vocal about things and if you find someone cute, you aren't beating around the bush, so you're just like “hey I think you're so cute!”

And Semi is just like “omg okay what”

He definitely laughs it off and finds you brave and cool, and you kinda earn his respect for being so straightforward.

And he's pretty happy about the compliment.

You follow them into the gym and introduce yourself as their new manager, and they all promise to work hard and cooperate with you.

You get along well with the whole team, but for some reason, you and Ushijima just don't have the same connection you share with the others.

Like your jokes with Tendou, or your playful and mischievous nature with Semi.

Or even how you tease Goshiki.

You're determined to fix it.

So one day after a match, you round the whole team up and bring them to your house, instructing they wait by the dining table.

And you whip out some really fancy food you've just prepared, calling it a celebration for winning :)

They don't know you've cooked it yet, so you tell them and they're all just so impressed but not surprised, since they know you're capable and amazing at anything you do.

But Ushijima is just like?? Wow??

Because the flavours and way you've prepared the food touches him and he's just so proud to know someone who can make other people happy with their cooking.

And he tells you so, causing you to blush for the first time in your life.

The team is so soft when they see you flustered over something their captain has said, and they're glad you guys are slowly growing closer.
