It was likely that this blond student was referring to her colleague and that made this question complicated to ask. On one hand she understood Goro's reasoning and why he wanted to be bold and brash about it, but on other hand this was a bad move from a media standpoint. She didn't agree on this approach and while she'd shown up at the news station during interview Goro had given to show some support she had no plans to give any bombastic opinions on her take.

As if she'd say that out loud to her colleague she held some respect for and saw flaws she'd had earlier. He'd chosen to act like this and wouldn't back down, and would need to carry the burdens of his actions on his own.

"Hm... I am assuming this is about Goro Akechi, my acquaintance in Tokyo PD. I feel free to correct if I am wrong on this thought of yours, but the telltale signs imply to his recent interview on recent 'menace' of Tokyo. I have seen the interview in question and while I think he has good intentions he was rather too direct in my standards. Being that harsh on a case what does sound concerning and isn't as clear cut as he makes it seem can be dangerous to both parties." She was admittedly curious on why she had been asked this and asked if he had an opinion on this topic as well.

But whomever is selected for the case to hand (more likely by chance as much as appointment), expect the whole case turning out to have some resolution.

Even where the result in the end turns out having come about in hilariously Funtastic manner.

❌ "put your hand inside the puppet head" - they might be giants

the opening verse makes reference to leaving one's job and how "it's sad to say, you will romanticise all the things you've known before. it was not, not, not so great". according to flansburgh, "the lyric revolves around the idea that looking back on anything colors it in sentimentality".

❌ "I'll sink manhattan" - they'll need a crane (ep)/miscellaneous T

this is a flansburgh song, but linnell explained its meaning in a 1989 interview with NME as "a song about a guy who somehow figures out how to sink the island of manhattan just to kill his ex-lover, so it's his apology to the other people he's gonna kill in between. he's just gotta do it!"

❌ "meet james ensor" - john henry

it's about james ensor (belgium's famous painter).

❌ "wicked little critta" - mink car

from the tmbg unlimited collection: "forged in the crucible of an eastern massachusetts junior high, this song expresses the dreams, fears and hopes of a new england young adult" the lyrics seem to suggest said young adult fantasising about being a sports star alongside bobby orr and john havlicek while goofing off outside.

❌ "working undercover for the man" - mink car

from flansburgh: "it's more a meditation on the "mod squad" [a 1968 crime series about cool undercover detectives] than anything else. the idea of the narc just seems... like, those episodes of "dragnet" where they have the young undercover dress in a hippie suit."

the lyrics illustrate an overly-cautious family shielding their very gifted child from others, to keep him studious and soak in all the glory, and is heavily implied to be little albert einstein through puns on relatives and relativity. it's not by them, tho. it's by the band sparks. it came 2nd, so I think many of you recognised it (or really wanted to see the results!)

❌ "bee of the bird of the moth" - the else

"this is a song about a creature called a hummingbird moth, which imitates another creature, which imitates yet another creature. it's completely fucked up, and can only be explained in song!" so they did.

❌ "2082" - join us

thewrap's review of the album describes this song as, "a science-fiction short story (...) a protagonist who travels into the future, finds himself hobbled but still unhappily alive all the way into the next millennium, and travels back to the title year to smother himself with a pillow in a mercy killing". fun!

❌ "call you mom" - nanobots

referred to by linnell as an "oedipus pan" song, the lyrics follow an unfortunate young man beginning a relationship with a woman, getting dumped due to his behaviour of treating her like a mother figure, then infantilising a possibly younger woman in a different relationship and in turn leaving her, who goes on to experience the same issues. fun! (altho, the final chorus actually still refers to her Mom leaving, not her dad, I got the details wrong there in the poll).

❌ "gudetama's busy days" - dial-a-song / my murdered remains

yes, that's a real song. quote flansburgh: "(...) it is really just about feeling isolated from the world, even if you are in a crowded place and manically trying to keep up with your life. the character of gudetama appealed to me because he is such a mopey sad sack."

❌ "marty beller mask" - album raises new and troubling questions

this is real, too! it's just about how marty beller was actually an alter ego of whitney houston the whole time. he's not, but wouldn't that be interesting. the song name-checks multiple of her own in the lyrics. it was temporarily retired out of respect following houston's death (4 months after its release), returning to live performances ten years later in 2022.

Do you have any theories to share with the class? I remember the Huntington's theory you had came true!

I have A LOT OF THOUGHTS and thankfully @thisbuildinghasfeelings indulges them and helps me map them out.

I think the biggest theory I have is Carlos has a new job- but I have like 2-3 theories on what it is and why. They've been hinting at a career change for him for like 3 seasons at this point. Do I think it will stick? idk

I think my main theory is that Carlos is working dispatch or something along the lines of that. I know it seems kind of random, but if Carlos isn't going to be police anymore- he will most likely still be in a first responding position because that's just how the 911 verse works. The thing that kind of helps me with this theory is that Rafa talked about it being something different than he has ever done before and I think anything Texas Ranger-y is too similar to what he's done before with police and the detective stuff.

Also the angst hoe in me wants Carlos to be on dispatch and hear TK get injured (as told he gets injured at the Chicago con) and be able to do nothing about it because he's not there. Also- more grace and carlos scenes PLEASE!

Second theory is that he's working undercover on Gabriel's murder case- which ALSO fits being different than anything Rafa's done before. We do know that figuring out what happened to him is supposed to be apart of the season, as told by a cameo from earlier this year and that Carlos has a five episode arc- which I'm assuming and i know you're not supposed to, is about that. My supporting theory about that is kind of what Jen's ( @strandnreyes) V-day fic was about. Like Carlos is living somewhere away from TK- but I'm kind of theorizing that they meet up every episode or 2 to check in with each other and have *steamy* scenes. Kind of fits with Brian talking about how relationships kind of turn on a head and imagine they act like they're apart through the first episode and we see them reunite at the end happily in love but carlos undercover!

This also culminates to Carlos either seeing or hearing about TK getting hurt and he cannot react. I want the ANGST. The evidence for this one other than just speculating is I have a theory that the party at the loft where they were all nice and fancy in the Cameo vid is a "welcome back" Carlos party and TK makes a spectacle of putting Carlos' wedding ring back on him because they're THAT cheesy in love. (the easy answer was that he wasn't wearing it yet before they film but i'm taking it a step further).

I think these are the main ones I have now just for carlos and tarlos, so I'll be curious if they pan out! Basically if they're making TK get injured again- they better indulge my angst whore ways and have Carlos be unable to do anything about it and see him internally or externally freak out because Rafa is so good at that and it's just *different* now that they're husbands.

the whole thing with 6th and the detective... yes, i adored them. the idea is that en works with the detective frequently to do undercover operations. they barter info and provide safe areas for each other. en and the detective first met when en was around seventeen, I believe. it's a very father-son esque bond. en has been invited for dinner a few times, and en is like the cool uncle for the detective's kids. there's the whole angst about not getting too close though, in case it'll get the detective hurt.

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE; Isaac is a conman / cult leader on the run from miami, fl. upon discovery of a cult he created out of sheer mistake / opportunity (?), the sordid and sinister biddings that were carried under his name led him to flee and change his name. he got into some random's car he unalived and drove off. his connection with the sawyers / slaughters stems from sissy; a former cultist in his merry band of psychos once upon a time. upon entering austin, he reunited with sissy and has been staying with her on the family's property with plans to leave again soon. either with or without sissy.

ii. FALLOUT; Isaac is a raider. He was born and raised in the wasteland. He can be anywhere in this verse really. Being a raider is a pretty versatile role. He is relentless, murderous, and takes joy in chasing victims. he has a pipboy and enjoys the radio. he loves to sing the classics while in pursuit of who he is after. in any faction, he is seen as the unhinged and unpredictable ally that bodes useful in interrogations, or getting information from unwilling informants. he's a master liar, manipulator, and deceiver.

iii. MODERN VERSE / FANDOMLESS; Isaac King was raised in the system. Seen as a success story for finishing school despite his challenges with petty crimes in his adolescence. though, all were pardoned when he joined the miami police academy to become an officer. he quickly climbed the ladder and became a detective. he was attracted to the power he had as a man of the law. however, when undercover for a notorious drug pin, he found the lifestyle addicting. he quickly fell into addiction with drinking and drugs. but was hired on as a useful asset. though his unpredictable nature would often get him in trouble, he was determined to overthrow and take over the organization. but he is on thin ice with the higher-ups.

I love when I love my original characters so much I make AUs for them...

Inspired by too many fics about "the detective goes undercover in the mob/mafia".... I wanted to make an AU for "a mafia guy (Brent in this case) going undercover at the police station (where he works in canon)". The AU then spawned Brent's cousins, Caspian (taller guy) and Atticus (the bundle of sunshine).

In the canon-verse, Right and Luca's plots are coexistent which means that in canon, when Luca visits a restaurant he thinks is sketchy and probably a cover for shady dealings, that's canon for Right's plot, too. So in the AU, I have it owned by Brent's aunt while her kids Caspian and Atticus basically run it. There are other employees but it's mostly them in charge. So that's why Atticus is pestering Brent to bring a cop at the bottom.

Sherlock Holmes: verses

(Note: Will add more or remove some in the future. Also a possibility of Gemini appearing in these verses too.)

Verse: Changed Man (Post Season 2 AU)                        After faking his death, Sherlock Holmes went on a mission to bring down Moriarty’s empire with Mycroft’s assistance. When he finished the last strands of the consulting criminal’s empire by means of going undercover, he was then captured, realizing too late that he stepped into a trap. This caused for him to lose contact with his brother who was under the impression that his radio silence meant he’d been working under the radar.

Months of torture upon capture, thanks to alternate usage of drugs keeping him high at one point while keeping him pliant on another, it messed with Sherlock’s brain. Having to hang onto the fact that he needed to survive, Sherlock Holmes had to make the hard choices, causing him to stand to the brink of sanity. Eventually breaking him, giving his enemies the opportunity to build him back the way they wanted him be. The way he’s intended to become.

Now back in Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes had no memory of who he used to be. Now he is placed back in London under orders, working to fulfill his duty and his thirst for blood as what he’s been told.

Because wouldn’t it be fun if the consulting detective comes back from the dead, high-functioning and looking all well in appearance but willing to kill in order to survive?

Verse: Six Months (Post Season 3 AU)                        Without John Watson’s knowledge, shooting Charles Augustus Milverton meant death for Sherlock Holmes. The consulting detective was placed on MI6 and work with them as his punishment for shooting the man, something he will never regret if it meant to save John. This means that Sherlock Holmes will have to work with everyone in the MI6, going out to the field for missions and even providing assistance within the HQ at times. Mycroft’s verdict is that he’d last six months. But if he’d been working with the best of the best, would it be bold to assume that he could last more than that? After all, shooting someone in cold blood for the safety of others would also mean something, wasn’t it?

Verse: Frailty of Genius (MI6 AU)                        Sherlock Holmes was recruited to work in MI6 and decided to accept the offer when he realized that he’d encounter more idiots in New Scotland Yard than people like Greg Lestrade who’d take his advice into account.

With a mission he had however, Sherlock was hit in the head hard after discovering something crucial for MI6. When he gained consciousness, he had no memory of his life as a consulting detective nor with the people whom he held dear in his life.

Though he’s back in the MI6, he barely remembers the people. Interestingly enough, he apparently made a connection to some of them prior to his accident.

For a while, he was to stay within the HQ and work behind the desk or in the lab as he once again goes through the process of knowing every single people he worked with. Though sometimes, he’s being sent to the field still but only to assist, since his brain is still surprisingly sharp after passing the examination given to him before reporting back to work. Whenever he tried to remember, Sherlock tend to suffer headaches especially when put under pressure. Was it necessary for him to remember the past? Or was it something that he shouldn’t bother anymore? Things are going well after all. Yet somehow, there are moments where he feels like there’s a hole within his brain that he craves to fill. And somehow, his heart feels the same too.

What had he forgotten about?

Verse: Left Behind (Vampire AU)                        Sherlock Holmes walked the Earth for more than he could remember. He was once human; he knew that fact. But the person who turned him into a creature of the night, his maker, was someone he couldn’t recall. At least not anymore.

Now working as a consulting detective, he decided to live his days in Baker Street while keeping a good amount of supply in the blood bank for him to live and survive. He wouldn’t want others to suffer his own fate and though he never denied that he wasn’t human. He never raised the discussion to anyone either.

Though sometimes, he had to live with the boredom. After all, he’d seen it all. The rise and collapse of humanity due to their own doing.

🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they’re lying?

( Ironically, Saya, Masaru, and Shintarō are good liars although they can be blunt as well! Chantelle is also a liar because Pisces people tend to appear polite but they talk behind people's back. For Saya, she may sound a little hesitant when she is telling a lie but since in modern days, she has a reserved nature in canon, people may think she's just being awkward. One time when Chantelle lied when I was writing with @sportbaes , she had a lot of pauses while talking lol. Masaru may act a little exaggerated when he is lying / acting but I'm sure his acting skills will improve since in his main verse, he is an undercover demon slayer. As for Shintarō, he's mastered the art of having a stoic face so he's the hardest to detect he is lying except when Kazunari Takao ( tagging my dear Takao in here @ervaurem ) tells the truth about him being shy or actually wanting to wanting to be with the others and he goes "No!" That's the only time he's obviously lying.

😨 FEARFUL - when scared, do they go into “flight” or “fight”?

Masaru is a fighter so his reaction in most verses is to fight, especially since in most verses, he's been trained to.

Beneath that sweet demeanor that Chantelle has, lies a woman who becomes competitive and cunning on the court. Dolphins are evil and she has the wild instincts of the Bottlenose dolphin and she's earned them by fighting against people on the basketball court with her skills even if she does get a little scared in the beginning. She won't fight back when her elder sister, Constance, is bullying her at school. Which while writing with you Jenny, my brain started to headcanon that Shintarō once witnessed it which is why he no longer not considers her as a friend because of her blood type. I'll eventually have to drabble out the bullying and it'll be part of my Senshi no Basuke crossover.

Shintarō wasn't much of a fighter growing up. He's probably gotten bullied for carrying lucky items and I headcanon that my oc sister for him, Mika, had to call his bullies out and catch them in the act for them to stop. It wouldn't surprise me if seeing Mika's bravery inspired him as he got older and with his lucky item, he's fearless and depending how high Cancers are on the astrological ranking, he's unstoppable. Look at the time the Generation of Miracles encountered a bike thief in junior high, he just thought rationally, took Atsushi Murasakibara's ice pops, and did a three pointer that he knew would hit the thief. In Replace Plus, guy just used his Daruma to throw it at the guy who tried to throw a cup at Satsuki Momoi. As long as he has something to use for three-pointers, he can fight. I think he would only be afraid if his lucky item wasn't around since his bad luck is out to give him painful karmic retribution.

🖍️ CRAYON - what advice would you give to them?

For canon! Saya, I want to advise her to not see all Chiropterans as evil. Some humans have good and bad in them too, it's the same with her kind.

For Masaru... I'm sure he can advise me better since he's a lawyer but he does need to cool off with his jealousy.

For Chantelle, I want to tell her to not try to aim for acceptance wit her her elder sisters who hate her but she's so giving that she'll probably not listen to me anyways and somehow she and her sisters will reach an understanding but I'll have to figure that out in the future.

For Shintarō, I want to tell him to not be so closed off since there are people he can trust but he probably thinks of me and Chantelle as foolishly kind and too trusting anyways and he has gone through pain. Hopefully as he grows and does meet people who he can care for, his character will grow and lo and behold, actually apologize to others properly as @ervaurem once mentioned! )
