What is the one thing about your job that you wish people understood that they generally don't seem to?

Probably that we aren't trying to hold your meds hostage from you, the patient. As techs, it would genuinely be easiest for us if we could just... get you the meds.

A strange number of people, if something isn't covered or in stock or is too soon, will act like I'm intentionally trying to screw them over and I have no idea where this comes from. If nothing else, my job would be easier if I could just give everyone every single med.

And also maybe that prescription insurance isn't the same as medical insurance and it can be stupid-complicated, especially Medicare. God I fucking hate Medicare; the amount of unnecessary hoops they make patients jump thru is unreal and a lot of it is outside our control.

Another good one to know is that we don't have any special way to get ahold of your doctor faster than you do. Actually, as the patient, you're more able to get ahold of them than we usually are. With insurance, we do often talk to a different dept, actually, so sometimes we can help with that. (Altho insurance phone calls suck cuz they take too long.)

vaspider and callouts

People are adding likes to my post about when vaspider had a freakout and blocked me. Spider had reblogged from someone who was stereotyping a gay guy who didn't enjoy Brokeback Mountain for being yet another story where a gay man gets beaten to death. I pointed out the op was just expressing prejudice towards another queer person, Spider got super angry about it, etc etc.

You've all seen the pattern before, even if you don't know it yet. Spider basically pulled the 'don't you dare talk back' card because I challenged his sense of entitlement. People like that tend to have a real problem when someone criticizes them, because fragility. Dish it out but not take it, that sort of thing.

And like...that's okay? People get angry, they say mean and stupid things sometimes, and getting blocked isn't a big deal. No real harm done.

So, now that people are finding my old post, I went followed the threads to see why. Why are people interested in searching about Spider again? I saw some people voicing complaints that sounded legit and reasonable. My own experience with Spider is that he's a little arrogant and a little fragile, so I get it. And there are certainly positions he's taken, both in terms of politics and culture, that I think aren't great.

But then I came across the people who going after Spider for being Jewish. I saw the blogs still trying to spread lies involving abuse. And it reminded me of how easy it is for prejudiced and hateful people to join into the dogpile when callouts and criticism are involved.

If you've got a real, legitimate problem that you want to hash out, doing it on tumblr probably isn't a good idea. It might be better to just block and move on, because writing a callout means adding to a conversation already featuring liars and antisemites.

I definitely don't disagree with the idea that people 23 and younger are more conservative in regards to sex than they think they are, but I definitely disagree that 30-50 year olds are being essentially persecuted by this younger group, especially by teenagers.

The idea that kids or teens are calling anyone who they view as an adult a pedophile because they watch kids shows? Given the history of fandom, I would like to know how the adults are engaging with the show? What kind of content are the adult fans making?
