Whumptober Day 11 - "Masters and Slaves" (JJBA Vampire Hunter AU)
Today's @whumptober fic is the first part of a 2-parter (2nd part will be posted on the 27th)
This fic is from my Pt5 Vampire Hunter AU set between Monsters and Fallen Saints and Something Wicked so you don't have to be caught up in the series to read this one.
Buckle up, guys, we have a ton of angst and dhampir lore in this one.
~~~~~~~
Prompts Used: Captivity, 'no one will find you' Fandom: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 5 Character: Giorno
~~~~~~~
(Excerpt)
Giorno woke to a sharp pain in his wrist. He flinched, eyes fluttering open as he tried to pull away from whatever had a hold of him.
But he could only go so far before something tugged on his burning wrists and he realized his hands were bound in silver manacles, the chain between them linked around the bars of a cage.
A baton slammed against the bars, startling him and making his head ache. "Easy, half-blood. You're not going anywhere now."
"Where am I?" Giorno demanded, glancing down and seeing a bleeding cut on his wrist. "Who the hell are you?"
He was ignored as his captor straightened up and handed over a cup of Giorno's blood to another man standing to one side. "Is this enough?"
"That's fine. If you would?"
The guard grunted and pulled off his glove, making a small cut across his palm. The other man dripped some of Giorno's blood onto it and the man hissed before he chuckled. "Well, would you look at that."
"Indeed. It is a rare find to have a dhampir with healing powers. He will fetch a very good price."
Giorno pushed himself to his knees and gripped the bars, shaking them furiously. "I am a registered Hunter under Capitano Polpo and Bruno Bucciarati. You have no right to sell me," he spat.
The man who had inspected his blood turned to him with disdain. He was dressed in an expensive suit and Giorno suspected he was likely the head of this operation. "Dhampirs have no rights unless they belong to a master. Without documented proof that Polpo or any of his Hunters own you, it is not illegal to sell you to a new master."
Giorno gritted his teeth, feeling his fangs lengthen in fury. As disgusting as it was, he knew that there was truth to the man's words. He had been so careful for years to hide his true nature for this very reason—had barely escaped his parents before they had decided to sell him off for money. Still, he was sure that Polpo would have enough sway to get him out of this situation, if only he could get in contact with Bucciarati.
"Please at least let me send a message to my boss," Giorno tried. "He'll tell you—"
The guard slammed his baton down on the cage bars again as Giorno barely got his fingers out of the way in time.
"That's enough out of you, fang!" he snarled.
The head man glared at Giorno for a moment before he turned to leave. "Get him ready with the other goods. A muzzle might be a good idea."
Giorno gritted his teeth in helpless frustration. "When the Hunters find out what you're doing—Agh!"
A burning spray flew across his face and Giorno barely shut his eyes in time, realizing the man had thrown holy water over him."
"That's enough out of you, blood-sucker! Milano! Come help me get this freak ready for tonight."
Giorno struggled as they opened his cage, but with his hands still manacled to the bars on the door, he was forced to shuffle forward out of the cage. He shifted and kicked out at his captors, but they grabbed hold of him and forced him to the ground, one of the men sitting on him to hold him down.
"Watch your fingers," he grunted to his companion as the man got the muzzle ready.
Giorno glowered up at him, and hissed. He snapped at the man's hand, but the guard grabbed a fistful of his hair, wrenching his head back painfully before shoving the muzzle over his mouth. It was the kind that had a plate inside that forced its way between Giorno's teeth, pressing uncomfortably against his tongue as the leather contraption covered the lower half of his face.
It was secured tightly behind his head, the straps digging in painfully.
Giorno glowered up at the two men as they released him and locked him back into the cage.
"Sleep tight, little blood-sucker. You're gonna meet your new master tonight."
Giorno didn't like the sound of that, and simply prayed that Bucciarati and the others might know where to find him, because, if not, then he was going to be in deep trouble.

I loved your FRWAD story and all the stories that came after it and I came up with an idea that idk if you'll like so I lowkey had to ask this anonymously cuz I don't wanna ruin my reputation 💀
Imagine sometimes after Y/N has her baby she gets seriously injured, idk what girl was doing maybe she just starts to have health issues that even Diluc's money can't avoid, then shes practically on her deathbed and then Diluc is just sitting next to her, listening to her heartbeat get weaker and more unstable. He can't deal with the idea of losing her so in a moment of weakness he decides to try and turn her so they can stay together.
See? Told u it's so dumb but I can't stop giggling, kicking my feet over the thought. Also I'm kind of an angst wh*re HEHEHEHE 🥴😈
Also I hope ur feeling okay... Idk if this was the wrong time to request something like this... 😔
if HK started having health issues, diluc wouldn’t hesitate to turn them tbh. i think he’d struggle with it, but HK doesn’t have the same moral qualms about vampirism that he does.
more food for thought, however, is that a child they have together while HK is still human would be a dhampir. there’s a million different interpretations of vampires and dhampirs, but some of them follow that dhampirs don’t have the same immortality that their vampire parent does. i haven’t settled on which path i want to follow for the AU, but either way diluc has to grapple with the mortality of his own family. compared to that, the moral shortcomings he has about ensuring that they will live by his side seem small.

// Blood TW
playing around with how healing works for Lucia ft. a sick eye scar... It works as a little bit less of a "get outta jail free card" but still makes her a little more durable/capable of bouncing back than a normal human would be.
Some important notes;
She heals at a normal human pace unless she drinks blood, followed by a period of heavy sleep depending on the extent of the damage.
Body parts that are lost can be regained only after drinking blood, but the scars left behind don't fade completely. Basically, it restores her to a functional state, but she's too human for it to be as if it never happened, UNLESS she drank from a live human, as opposed to a blood bag.
In cases where something like her eye is able to heal back, she'd lose her normal amber color and it would come back red, like a vampire's (sick heterochromia dude!!).

Blood Moon Sky: A Work In Progress
My gothic novel-inspired project starring Amsel and my self insert, who I’ve decided to name Vincent (even though he’s basically me). I’ve been working on this project quite a lot as of late and here’s what I have so far.
(Trigger warning: brief mentions of intergenerational trauma, dysfunctional family relationships and death in childbirth)
The novel is divided up into four parts, titled Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue.
The “Something Old” section is more like a prologue to the main narrative, as its entire purpose is to set up the lore of this fictional world, explain how vampires work and explore the lineage of the Bloodmoon family. This section also provides Amsel’s backstory, how he’s regarded as a harbinger of doom by his kin due to a prophecy stating that “the end will come” when he, the seventh son of a seventh son, is born and his subsequent exile from nearly all of his kin except for Micah, one of his brothers.
The “Something New” segment switches to Vincent’s point of view as he’s backpacking across Germany in search of the perfect material for his novel. As he travels into increasingly remote territory, he begins to hear rumours of vampires from the locals, who urge him to turn back while he still can, but he loses his bearings while in an allegedly haunted forest and encounters a pack of Strigoi, the evolutionary cousins of vampires, who are basically like bloodthirsty bat/ape monsters (think the Crawlers from The Descent).
While running for his life, Vincent hears a voice guiding him to the safety of a castle, the sight of which frightens the strigoi away. When he enters the castle, Vincent discovers the owner of the mysterious voice: Amsel. Vincent is fascinated by his rescuer, wondering how he was able to communicate telepathically. Amsel offers to let the author stay for a while until he’s ready to return to civilisation. The two become friends and this becomes a romantic relationship.
“Something Borrowed” takes things up a notch, as we see these two at their most vulnerable, not just physically, but emotionally, too. Vincent opens up about the prejudice he has faced due to being transgender. Amsel also reveals that he is a dhampir, as well as another reason why his father and most of his brothers despise him; they blame him for his mother dying in childbirth, which they take a sign of the aforementioned prophecy due to vampires being pretty much immortal. He also doesn’t understand why he’s half human, unlike his brothers.
Throughout these chapters, a lot of time passes, as Vincent and Amsel grow closer and more intimate (Vincent pretty much moves in with him). They develop a soft BDSM dynamic in which Vincent learns to trust someone else and Amsel learns to trust himself. Towards the end of this segment, Amsel plans to propose, but Vincent has to abruptly leave and return to civilisation (the reason why is still very much a work in progress). Shortly after he leaves, Amsel basically spends each night yearning for his return. When he hears a knock at the door, he rushes to see if Vincent is back, only to be greeted by none other than Micah! *cue dramatic music*
The final segment, “Something Blue”, begins with Micah, who is an accomplished scholar in vampiric history, revealing a discovery he made to Amsel after tracing their family history. It turns out that their mother wasn’t a vampire, but was actually a dhampir as well (albeit only due to distant human ancestry, but a dhampir nonetheless), which not only made her mortal (although still immortal in a biological sense) but explains why she passed away after Amsel was born.
With this revelation, along with several others, the prophecy is recontextualised: the ominous statement “The end will come”, doesn’t mean the end of the lineage, but instead the end of a curse that plagued that bloodline; the cycle of abuse. As Amsel is trying to process all of this, a currently unspecified event reveals that Saul, Amsel’s oldest brother, has captured Vincent and his holding him hostage.
Here’s where the plot gets a little fuzzy, as I haven’t fleshed it out that much yet, but in essence, Amsel and Micah come to the rescue, narrowly avoiding a sticky end at the claws of the strigoi, where Amsel finally stands up to Saul and the rest of his family, calling them out for the torment they inflicted on him as a child, how Matthias (Amsel’s father) and Saul let their grief and prejudice blind them and how they perpetuated the Bloodmoon Curse.
Most of them begin to rethink their actions, helped by Micah’s revelation of the prophecy’s true meaning, but Saul instead doubles down on his malicious mindset, revealing that he drank some of Vincent’s blood, thus initiating the painful process of transforming into a vampire. Vincent tries to escape despite his weakness, Amsel and Micah protect him and a fast-paced chase scene ensues as Saul telepathically commands the wild Strigoi to attack the heroes.
Specific events and their chronological order are currently a little unclear, but essentially, the chase takes them outside into the sunlight, which turns the Strigoi to stone, Saul is defeated (haven’t decided whether or not to let him live yet) and Vincent’s transformation seems imminent. He and Amsel have a heart to heart as they hide from the setting sun, swearing that they’ll love each other no matter what. Amsel proposes to Vincent, who accepts. They mention the phrase “till death do us part”, to which Vincent replies that they’re probably past that point. He becomes weaker as the transformation begins to play out and he and Amsel kiss.
After the sun sets, however, a blue moon rises and its enchanted light (angelic beings called Moonfolk play a part in this story too) heals Vincent and transforms him back into a human. The curse is lifted and Amsel and Vincent prepare to get married, with Micah giving them his blessing (no pun intended). The fate of the rest of the Bloodmoon family is left ambiguous, but ends on the hopeful note that the next generation, Amsel’s nephews and nieces, will break the cycle and pave the way for a more stable future.
The final chapter focuses on Amsel visiting his mother’s grave, telling her that the curse is broken and that he and Vincent are about to be married. He tells her he loves her and bids her farewell, placing a white rose on her grave, before flying off to his castle, where Vincent - his future husband - is waiting for him.
Ofc there’s other details and snippets of lore that I haven’t mentioned in this summary but that’s more or less what the plot entails and I’m very happy with how it’s turned out. Still needs to have a few plot points smoothed out and some expansion on the characters, but I think it’s not too bad at all, if I do say so myself. I’ll be working on it more in the coming months.
Also there’s a footnote revealing that Vincent and Amsel co-wrote the entire novel. Just thought it’d be a neat detail.

D&D Vampire Lore Dump #2
"Biology" Their "metabolism" and their physical body, their senses, why they're not aging and "vampires actually make fantastic torture victims, if you're a monster: vampire healing and how to inflict scars on them."
OBLIGATORY DISCLAIMER FOR FIRST TIME READERS: There are two things to note about the lore presented here: First, while the standard stat block in the monster manual is the default, in terms of lore vampires have this annoying tendency to be incredibly, stupidly varied. They are magical monstrosities ruled by the power of symbolism and superstition above anything else.
The next is that D&D is decades old, spans five editions, several settings and hundreds of writers. One guy establishes a piece of lore, and then the next picks it up goes "nah" and writes something else. I collected info from four different source books, all from different editions, which naturally don't entirely agree on how vampires work. Lore never stays consistent and may contradict itself. You may see information somewhere else from a source I don't have that contradicts what I wrote here. If you read this and like some of this stuff but not other bits, take the good and ditch the rest. Larian themselves have not written BG3 totally compliant with some established D&D lore or the original games.
Basically, in D&D, canon is what you decide it is.
Feeding | "Biology" | Hierarchy | Weaknesses and Cures | Psychology
The transformation into a vampire causes little physical change, except for the fangs, and the fact that their facial features seem take on a permanent hardened expression, appearing more "feral" in a way that is likened to a starving wolf. Spawn moreso than freed vampires, and in 5e they have claws despite the fact that freed vampires don't. Sometimes a vampire's eyes turn red upon changing, but this doesn't always happen.
Most of the vampire's five senses are sharpened by undeath. They can see perfectly in the dark, for example, and are very hard to catch off guard. The only one that gets duller than it was when they were alive is the sense of touch - "a blunt, phantom sense of touch, more mechanical than biological. It is a pale, crude approximation of a real tactile sense." They don't feel the effects of physical exertion and their ability to feel pain is dulled (but not nonexistent). They're not particularly bothered by high or cold temperatures unless they're at extremes (like frostbite levels, or "standing by a lava pool" levels). They're also largely unbothered by electric shocks.
They don't breathe, though they do actually have a heartbeat as their blood still gets pumped around their body. It doesn't provide any biological need of a living circulatory system, but is possibly part of keeping the body animated via magic.
Vampires do not produce body heat and tend to be room temperature to the touch unless they've fed within the last 24 hours, in which case they appear alive.
Lacking brain activity on account of being dead, vampires are immune to mind effecting spells and psionics. The fact that Astarion is affected by the tadpole is likely due to Netherese magic. The parasite is canonically modifying his undead state to its needs and has shut down his vampiric abilities, as he observes in one banter.
Their physical abilities massively increase. They have superhuman strength, speed and reflexes and are far more durable than the living.
Vampiric blood looks like humanoid blood at first glance, but takes on a golden sheen when held up to a light source. Also if the vampire it came from is still alive, then that blood can have strange magic properties… which are random! Maybe it burns like acid, or puts you under mind control if you touch it, or explodes into flame when exposed to sunlight! You won't know 'til you find out, it could do anything or nothing.
Vampires are capable of siring partially-undead children with the living (Dhampirs). Dhampirs are alive but as they grow up and their undead heritage starts to manifest they begin to share their vampire parent's cravings and feeding habits and are not terribly fond of said parent, as a rule.
Vampires are the only undead that require sleep. That turned out to be a very long topic of its own though, so maybe I'll focus on the details another time. Short version: Vampires have an instinctive knowledge of how close sunrise is. Some vampires can chose to sleep much like humans, others will immediately shut down the second the sun appears over the horizon and be dead until the moment it next sinks below said horizon, at which point the vampire is 1000% aware and awake again. They are bound to soil from their grave/homeland and must sleep on/in that or be destroyed. In BG3 specifically, looking at Cazador, elves still reverie (trance) in undeath. (In reverie, elves relive their memories of years gone by in vivid real time instead of dreaming. It's how elves avoid forgetting their own lives while living 700+ years) Vampires also hibernate, where they chose to go into a deep sleep for an unknown and uncontrollable length of time reaching centuries in length. Usually due to depression.
A vampire's body is frozen in time, and they will always have the same appearance they had when they died. The magic that keeps the vampire frozen in time, unageing, also gives them regenerative properties as it tries to reset them. Within minutes of receiving a wound, the wound has closed itself as if it were never there. "Wounds close, broken bones reform themselves, even missing limbs regenerate…" Reducing a vampire to 0 hit points also does not kill them, but that's for a later instalment. If one were to torture a vampire one could get both incredibly creative and make it last indefinitely.
They also can't get new tattoos or piercings, as the body heals them over again and pushes out the ink/metal. On the same logic if they had body modifications before they died then they'd never be able to get rid of them - if you scrape off the skin a tattoo is on or tore off a pierced lobe, the skin that grows back will still have the tattoo and the ear will have the hole for the earing still there.
However, there are forms of magical damage that inflict permanent marks on a vampire, which are called stigmata. Sunlight, holy water, holy symbols and the like are known to leave a scar. A silver plated blade might also do it.
There are two energy planes: Positive and Negative. Also known as the Planes of Life and Death, whose energies infuse the Prime Material Plane (which contains worlds like Earth and Toril). Living creatures are powered by positive energy (also called "radiant"), while the undead are animated by negative energy ("necrotic"). It's actually theorised that the undead somehow exist on the Prime Material Plane and the Negative Energy Plane simultaneously, though this seems gets into a lot of planar lore and conflicting information that I'm not going into. Traditionally, due to this difference, the undead are healed by spells made of negative/necrotic energy such as Inflict Wounds spells, but in reverse would be harmed by healing spells. 5e has not included this detail, that I've seen.

what is the plot of the dampire annabel or the monster au you made 🤔
Okay, bear with me. This gonna be a very long post of me explaining Dhampir AU to the best of my abilities.
~
Dhampir AU Lore
An AU about a young dhampir sent alone to hide in America and a runaway woman; Lenore ran from her future responsibility as a wife and a matriarch like her father expected her to be and Annabel’s existence stirred chaos within the vampire society. Both will fall in love every step at a time. Monsters don’t like a half-breed like Annabel, and surely don’t like a human within the monster society; Humans don’t like the unexplainable like Lenore’s eccentric mannerism and Annabel’s occasional thirst for blood.
TL;DR summary
The story starts with Lenore in the storm (This is the moment Theo died in canon but in this story, his death is prevented), she ran away from her family due to her father marrying her off to a suitor he found and Lenore is heavily against the idea of her being married and a matriarch. So she ran away on horseback during a dangerous thunderstorm.
[Theo did chase after her, but to no avail he lost Lenore in his search, thus him living in this current AU]
Running away resulted in Lenore getting lost in the woods and getting attacked by wolves. She got injured BAD; so she sets off on her own, in this treacherous weather; she didn’t expect her life to end in this fashion. She passes out in the harrowing weather in the middle of the woods.
Cut to Annabel in a carriage on the same night. Spotting an unconscious woman on the side of the dirt road, her curiosity and worry convince. She got out and approached the unconscious woman; Lenore looked so tired and beaten from running away. Annabel brought the unconscious Lenore to her carriage without a second thought.
On their way to Annabel’s secluded cabin (Lenore is still knocked out cold and she’s resting on Annabel’s thighs; Annabel is wiping all the blood and dirt on Lenore’s face) an internal monologue within Annabel; and Lenore dreams of a nightmare. She’s back at her old home, sitting in front of her suitor as her father makes a speech about the success of the family.
[note: There will be a POV switch between Lenore and Annabel.]
Annabel’s POV)
The moment her carriage entered the property gates. Annabel finished her job at cleaning Lenore’s face with her handkerchief. Her mind racing the possibilities on why this woman on her lap is bleeding, dirty and unconscious, she moved on from Lenore’s face and into her long raven dark hair; removing the twigs and dirt on the sleeping woman on her lap.
Over the following week. She has ordered all of the staff not to enter Lenore’s chamber, Annabel has personally taken it on herself to take care of Lenore for the whole entire week.
Lenore’s POV)
[Her POV starts a week after Annabel found her.] She found herself on a queen size bed, warm, and well kept in new clothes rather than rotting on the side of the dirt road with bugs crawling over her like roadkill. Lenore freaked out, thinking her nightmare is still ongoing. Curiosity led her to jump out of bed and explore her new environment.
As she was walking around the large Victorian mansion, she noticed how pristine and posh it looked. The mansion staff looked at her in bewilderment. Why is a human inside the mansion?
Fanfic and written stuff
[Kronk: There is a fanfic, but it's only at chapter 1.]
Read the tags before reading, please.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/53076466 first part of the fanfic
Also, some scenarios written down:
“You were the moon that brightly lit my dim soul; ‘*Lest this woman lay upon your arms, love her dearly for as she is the night dew to your dark nights, as you wept alone.*’ I fondly recall, wholly remembering the night I laid my eyes on you. Giving me a spark of life that I believed I never had in the first place.” Annabel’s Lesbian yearning about Lenore.
[Kronk: Another one, lol]
So when Lenore and annabel had a friends date, Lenore placed a gentle peck on Annabel's cheeks. After their friend date, annabel quickly ran to her office, looked for a piece of paper, meticulously placed the paper from where Lenore kissed her in her cheeks so the lipstick would transfer over. After she's done, she didn't fold it but put it in her secret journal.

Thinking about (Dad) Astarion related to pregnancy/birth itself as an experience and how he reacts and how it affects him, because that’s what my research is focused on right now, so that’s where my brain is. (So, obvious warnings for pregnancy/birth.)
I’ve been reading some of the older material connected with D&D/lore, to get a sense of how Astarion would instinctively react to fatherhood—regarding his elven nature, not just his trauma, because I think about that enough. Even in my own canon, where that baby is very much discussed and agreed upon (but happens way faster than either Astarion or my Durge anticipated, with both of them doubtful on whether or not they could have biological children or not), there’s a lot to unpack, and it’s not always easy for him to work through it.
I’m a sucker for Astarion relearning or reconnecting with his elven attributes that have been pushed down by Cazador for so many years, so much so that he surprises himself quite often.
For instance: Elves, both male and female because gender roles are whatever to them, are very involved in pregnancy, per some old sources like Dragon Magazine. It’s almost a natural response for them. And having the baby is a group activity if born in an elven community, because it’s something they take as a chance to come together. Tav/Durge (regardless of race, but bear in mind that my Durge is a half-elf, so a lot of my writing and research has that bias to it) and he are their own little community, and his elf brain is clear on what he needs to be doing before he even really has time to process.
Astarion himself is shocked by how involved he is from the moment he finds out that they’re having a baby.
Of course he was always going to invested—it’s his baby with the first person he ever truly cared for. And of course he’s terrified, who wouldn’t be? Even standard pregnancies aren’t simple, he knows this one is undoubtedly going to be even more complicated thanks to his vampirism, which is a delicious vein (no pun intended) for angst and character study. But, like so many people have pointed out, especially with a Durge partner, he can be and is very supportive, especially during tense moments.
Is he going to be dramatic about everything? Absolutely. He’s still Astarion, after all.
He also starts making concerted efforts to learn more about vampirism in general, because there’s still so much about his condition he doesn’t know, and if he doesn’t know about himself, he’s not going to very helpful when their child is older. Sure, dhampirism will have its own nuances, but he has to start somewhere. And there’s a lot more text out there about vampires than their rare instances of producing children.
He learns early on in the pregnancy that dhampirs can crave things other than blood to feed their hunger (spinal fluid, even dreams being among them), though they can also eat as any non-vampire can. However, some sources seem to insist that blood during fetal development is good for them, regardless of what diet they follow later on. Most sources are confident that a dhampir can feed from a vampire, but if a vampire were to bite/feed on a dhampir, the vampire would be left unsatiated, and the dhampir would likely not survive, the act sending their genetics into shock (*note: this isn’t strictly lore-compliant, because I’ve read too many conflicting things, so I’ve developed my own canon.)
Astarion absolutely starts bleeding himself for them to have blood on hand, just to be safe. After all, Tav/Durge has given him so much of their blood over the course of their relationship, if his can be good for something, he’ll gladly share. Besides, if we’re talking Durge, they’d probably be fairly thrilled to try his blood. It’s not the first time they’ve consumed flesh/blood, after all.
And with their medical proficiency, a Durge partner has a field day finally getting to stick his veins. He’s just happy they’re happy. If it helps the baby, and if it entertains Durge enough to distract them from all their aches and pains, then all the better.
Astarion does his own fair share of needlework, too. He starts teaching himself how to make blankets, the idea being that he wants something warm for the baby to associate him with, given how could his touch is. He isn’t sure how reactive they’ll be to body temperature, but he doesn’t want his son or daughter not liking him because he’s too cold. Besides, his scent will be all in the material, and he knows that’ll be good for anyone with any kind of vampiric nature to make associations.
Of course, he sees to altering Tav/Durge’s clothes over the months, too. If they’re self-conscious about everything happening, he’ll even do it exclusively. No need to pay a tailor or seamstress when he can do what they can better, by candlelight if needed, and he only charges in kisses, not gold.
He also tries to learn different ways to help physically. Someone teaches him the bump-lift trick for back pain at about seven months, and if Tav/Durge wasn’t hopelessly in love before, they are now. He takes bribes for foot rubs, but he’s always available for back rubs. He’ll make tea when they don’t feel like getting up to do it. He’ll lay in bed all day if that’s what they want to do. Snuggles? They’re already wrapped in a big old blanket together. They don’t want to be touched that day? He’s got books to read and a quip about being too beautiful to be ignored, but he won’t mean it.
He tries so hard not to panic when labor starts, but he’s so convinced all his good fortune is finally going to catch up with him if things have gone smoothly. And, in his subconscious, there’s been at least some illusion regarding the reality of it all, even as he’s watched his partner change physically and felt the baby move over the months.
But there’s no more hypotheticals.
Still, he would be insistent on being involved during the delivery itself (with bells on, no doubt, if you’ve seen my previous post.) He’s more scared than he’s ever been before, but he knows Tav/Durge is scared, too, and they’re the one in pain and doing all the work. The least he can do is be with them, and he can definitely do that. If he can offer them comfort when they’re actively trying to kill him thanks to Bhaal, then he can certainly put his own nerves aside when they’re having a baby.
He’ll make jokes about blood and the mess to cover up the fact that if he wasn’t already pale as a ghost, he’d be absolutely blanched, but he won’t let go of their hand, he’ll do whatever he can to make it at least marginally better, if it’s possible. He’ll crack jokes (“You put up with me everyday, this should be nothing.” “You’re going to be fine, because if you’re not, I’m going to kill you myself.” “It’s probably too late to back out of this now, but, I mean, we could try.”) All the back rubs. Hand holding, no matter how intense that gets as things progress. He’ll even share random relevant facts that stick out in his mind from months of research. (“Did you know dhampirs do have pulses despite popular belief, they’re just so faint that they can be hard to feel? Which is good, because if a vampire were to try to bite them, they’d have a hard time finding a vein and initiating paralysis and—” “Astarion, let’s have the baby before we start thinking about their camouflage tactics.”)
Hells, if the preferred attendant (I’ve seen Halsin, Shadowheart, Jaheira, an unnamed midwife, a combo of them—I’m partial to Miss Former Head Physican herself, Dalyria), tells him he’s catching the baby when it comes, then he’s doing it. (And he’s going to be crying more than the baby afterwards.)
It’s A Lot, for sure. And there’s a lot more nuance to it all than I can fit in one post, and this one is already getting too long, but I couldn’t help myself.
Bonus: Tav/Durge cuddled up and getting in those new baby snuggles and skin to skin after everything is cleaned up and everyone’s more or less at ease, and Tav/Durge looks at him and goes: “Well done catching him/her, by the way. It was very twee.”
No, he’s never living that one down.

the funniest lore you can give a dhampir character is that they dont have any weird powers or are super strong or whatever. its just that they happened to be a vampire from birth and nothing else. all their powers are normal average vampire powers. and vampires still act like theyre a problem

What's a delta au btw? I've been scrolling through tvdint fics and i see it pop up sometimes
The Delta AU is one of the many semi-canon AU's for the series! (Semi-canon in the sense that tvdint's mangaka Bonnoki was the one who came up with it, rather than just some fans) It's one of the most popular AU's and one of the most developed ones, aside from Uso
Basically, the gist of it is that every character (with a couple of exceptions) is shifted one role to the left, IE:
The vampires are all Vampire Control Division
The Vampire Control Division are all vampire hunters
The vampire hunters are all vampires
Tumblr media
Draluc is the captain of the VCD and is a dhampir in this AU. He has a wicked good ability to sense vampires, except using his ability gives him terrible migraines. He and the rest of the VCD are investigating a sudden invasion of superior vampires (Ronaldo and the rest of the former hunter characters) in Shin Yoko, and Draluc is eventually tasked with monitoring Ronaldo. He's very overworked and very tired, but is still his usual hedonistic self (and still has John).
Ronaldo is a vampire who is stupidly powerful, and it seems as though absolutely nothing can kill him: not garlic, not crosses, not silver, not sunlight. He is actively looking for a way to die, so that he can resurrect himself and become more "vampire-like" like his brother. He seems a lot more enthusiastic and puppy dog-like in this AU, so far not showing any sort of violent tendencies towards Draluc and actually seems to kind of respect him to an extent
And it basically plays out as a "what if Ronaldo was the one who barged into Draluc's quiet lil life and mooched off him instead?" theoretical. Fanon likes to depict this AU as kind of like a silly slice-of-life office AU, in a sense, but in general a lot of people view Delta as a slightly-to-greatly darker/more serious storyline than the canon tvdint, given Ronaldo's obsession with wanting to die and Draluc's mortality as a dhampir, among other aspects.
There are two 4 page comics about Delta in the official kyuushi fanbooks as well as a handful of little lore droplings from Bonnoki on his twitter and in a couple of his radios on youtube.
A compilation of most of the information about Delta can be found here!

So, unpopular kink (opinion?) -
I love breeding kink....without the pregnancy. I know! It seems counterintuitive. I just love the thought of him breeding you and telling you about how he could and the fantasy of it. However, the rarity of a dhampir kinda rides that line of both. So, I get it.
Also, Dad!Astarion...but not with bio kids. I would want nothing more than this man loving his found family and bonding/loving/protecting a charge that he is not biologically connected too.
That being said.
Bonus Horny Astarion Thought (C) -
The crew finds a baby (say in the underdark, so not many mammals around). After trying to find its parents without luck, Tav figures out a way to lactate to feed the baby. Spell? True polymorph? Hormones go crazy, who cares its dnd, this game is goofy and vague. Anyway, Astarion is annoyed at the risk of having a baby in the camp, he doesn't see the point in risking their lives to save a random loud baby. She makes some comment about feeding him and yet they keep him around, which passes him off, until he sees her nursing and that breaks something in him. The fact that she's willing to take in and save someone helpless and selflessly give her body to nourish them. It mirrors their current situation and his past where no saved him, no one cared enough to see he was in trouble. Stuff happens and they find the baby's parents, but now Astarion has conflicting thoughts/emotions, especially when feeding on Tav. The lactation hangs around, he's hopelessly intrigued and has no idea what to do or how to tell her about it. Until Tav leaks all over him while he's feeding....
Idk where I was going with this, it just sort of happened?
Astarion brain rot. It's so bad. When does it end? Does it end? Will I ever be normal again?
Sorry for yet another rambling ask!
Someone on discord mentioned that there is nothing in D&D lore that suggests dhampirs are rare because they are difficult to conceive (and I searched around and it is true). I think they are not that common because I assume not many vampires are interested in mixing themselves with humans to produce an offspring that could potentially kill them and their kind. Cause yeah... in lore, dhampirs are very skilled monster hunters since they know first-hand how a vampire behaves and how to exploit their weaknesses 😅
I tend to have that premise in my breeding kink fics cause I just love the idea of Astarion having to keep trying and trying again 🤭
But I do love your ideas tbh! I can see why the breeding with no consequences is hot 👀
And that cute scenario with Tav breastfeeding the baby and Astarion just falling in love because of how selfless she is.... 🥹

We all know cybird is awful when it comes to running ikevamp but RN I have a whole thing about the demi-vampire and the dhampires
Demi-vampire does in fact mean half and half
And so does Dhampire
But they are different kinds
Slight spoilers
Dhampires are fully human on a new moon and are fully vampire (basically pureblood) in a full moon. Blood lust goes crazy and all. And for the rest of the month they are somewhere in-between.. they still need food, but I think they can be sensed by a pureblood as if they are a lesser (not 100% but that's what it seems)
But as far as I am aware.. we get no explanation on Napoleon being a demi in his sequel.
And I feel like demis were supposed to have a bigger impact, but then they had the idea of the racism in vampires and realized they needed to make it a bit more dramatic and made dhampires.
Bc Napoleon didn't need blood at all until the very end. Man was basically just human.
I wish they could go back and change Napoleons route and be like "yeah no.. he's a Dhampire" bc if we aren't getting any demi answers then he might as well be.
I also feel like it was a bad thing to have Napoleon as the first route if they wanted him to be a demi. They weren't 100% sure where the game was going yet, and maybe having a bit more lore premade into the game would have meant that we would have had time for answers.
They wanted to go hard with their first routes but it ended up creating a lot of plot holes and things not adding up.
Like I feel like if Leonardo was a later route it would be SOOOO much better, I don't think it's bad.. but it could have been even better. Or maybe they could have made another demi.. idk. But they wanted Galileo and Drake to have a story behind being half and half and with Napoleon being a demi, things wouldn't have added up so they needed a whole other breed of vampires
Even tho demi literally means half and half in this case

Astarion and Lorena
Art credit: @a-cabin-in-midgard (thank you so much for creating this lovely art piece for me)
Astarion and Lorena had been married for sometime. They had been able to save some money they earned while adventuring all over Faerun and still had some savings from their time before defeating the Netherbrain. With this money they were able to buy a nice home in Baldur’s Gate to settle down for a bit.
Their home was beautiful, big, and filled with windows so that Astarion could enjoy the sun. After receiving the Sunwalker’s Gift ring from Lorena on their wedding day, Astarion soaked in as much sun as he could, never taking it for granted.
One morning, Astarion catches his Lore looking out the window pensively and nervously. He approaches her hugging her from behind settling his face on her neck to take in her delicious scent. She always smells of jasmine and lilies. Her neck is by far his favorite spot to settle in. Lorena is startled, she was so lost in her thoughts, she didn’t realize he was behind her.
Caught off guard by her sudden reaction, Astarion asks softly, “Darling…are you alright?”
Lorena turns to look up at him. Tears in her eyes. Astarion bristles, while still holding her, he looks at her with worry in his eyes. He holds her face with both hands gently, wiping the tears off her cheeks and asks ever softly, “My love…whatever could be the matter?“
Lorena looks up at him, “I have something to tell you, but I just don’t know how you will react. This has caught me by surprise and I think it will catch you by surprise as well.”
“Darling, you know you can tell me anything. What is it, my love?”
Lorena takes a deep breath, “I’m with child…we are having a baby, Astarion.”
Astarion, looks at her in shock. He doesn’t move, doesn’t say anything for a while. Lorena places her hand on his cheek, “Star? Star? Star! Oh…please say something?”
“Are…are you quite certain?” He asks. “Very…” she says. “But how…I’m a vampire…I thought I couldn’t…” Lost in his own thoughts, Astarion suddenly remembers reading about Dhampirs. If a vampire drinks enough blood from a thinking creature, and Astarion drinks plenty from his lovely wife that she gives to him willingly. It is very possible for him to sire a dhampir child.
He hugs her tenderly, with tears in his eyes, placing a gentle hand on her belly, and softly says, “A baby? We are having a baby? I…I can’t believe this could ever be possible.” He places his other hand behind her head, gently tugging at her hair, “Darling…I…thank you, thank you for making me the happiest man in all of Faerun. You have giving me yet another gift I never thought possible.” He had lost his family centuries ago, he doesn’t even remember who they are and the thought of him having a family of his own, it is so wonderfully overwhelming, he can’t help but cry joyous tears.
A sigh of relief comes out of Lorena’s mouth and she sobs, “You’re happy? I honestly didn’t know how you would react, I thought maybe you wouldn’t want a baby due to our adventuring lifestyle.”
Still in tears, he manages to chuckle, “Darling…of course I am happy! Naturally, I don’t know the first thing about raising a child, and I never saw myself as a father, never thought it possible. But this baby is our new adventure.”
Lorena holds him in tears as well. “My love…we get to have a family of our very own. Can you believe it! And you’re going to be a wonderful father. This child will love you so much just as much as I do.”
Astarion, still in tears, says softly, “A family of our very own? A family…MY family…MY child…OUR child. Gods, I love you, Lore. You have given me everything…more than I could have ever hoped for.” They stay like this for a while, hugging, sharing tender kisses, both never wanting to let go of one another.
