pspsps tlt fans wanna take a survey for my class 👀
it's 11 questions (mostly multiple choice) inquiring broadly into how fans reacts to TLT's religion. it does touch on religious trauma, but only in-depth if you choose to provide in-depth responses, which you absolutely do not have to
you also do not have to be religious to answer! just to have read the series. responses and sharing would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi friends!!
Some of you may know I’m a psychology major, and currently I’m doing a study on how noise sensitivity and learning styles may or may not predict academic performance in undergraduate college students! This is to fulfill some requirements to earn my degree, and in order for this study to be successful, I need at least 107 participants. If any of you who are undergraduate college students are interested in participating, all it is is taking a survey to assess your noise sensitivity level, learning style, and academic performance level. No personal information is collected, there is an option to have your email recorded if you want to be entered in a drawing for 1 of 4 $25 Amazon gift cards as a thank you for participating, but this is by no means required :)
I would really appreciate it if any of you would consider taking the survey, and I will post the link to it in a few weeks when I have IRB approval to launch the study! This is completely voluntary participation and please do not feel obligated to participate, only if you want to!

study diary —
Today I met with my research group for four hours as we made final revisions to our paper. It’s incredibly exciting to think that, if accepted, I may soon have my first academic publication.
Tomorrow will be back to business as usual - it’s time to begin preparations for my final exams.

The End of the Road
by Elisa Miller, Student Historian 2022/2024
Hello, hello! It’s hard to believe we’re past Thanksgiving, and I’m sure 2024 will be here before we know it. I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with the UW Archives over the last year and I’m sad to be saying goodbye to this position in the coming weeks. I had a last minute opportunity at the start of the semester to study abroad, so I’ll be participating in the Trinity College exchange program this spring. Unfortunately this meant my time as a student historian was cut short this year. The ever-supportive and flexible Cat was kind enough to give me the space and support to decide how I wanted to move forward. We ended up deciding on a semester-long project with me wrapping up my post at the end of the semester.
I spent the summer doing general research and thinking about potential topics for the year. I had wanted to continue working with the Asian American experience on campus. When the Supreme Court reversed Affirmative Action, it got me thinking about the admissions process for Asian Americans. My parents often joked that I should just put my ethnicity as caucasian while I was applying for schools because of the model-minority stigma against Asians in admissions. This idea was fascinating to me and I fell into a deep dive into UW admissions.
After some time in the archives and the UWDC, I realized I was hitting a wall due to the confidential nature of admissions. There was simply too much information I was never going to get access to, so I doubted I would be able to complete a full project on the topic. Then, I thought about taking my research and putting it towards an oral history project instead. This was a great workaround to my research block, as I could just speak directly to the sources. Troy and Cat agreed it was a good topic for oral history and, thus, I started on the process.
Having completed an oral history interview earlier this year, I felt relatively comfortable with the process. Of course, this would be more extensive than the one I did, so I spent some time refreshing myself on oral history and how to go about coordinating multiple interviews. Unfortunately, after weeks of work, I was unable to find enough participants to go through with the project. While I’m disappointed I won’t be able to continue working on this topic, I am still incredibly happy with the work I’ve done this semester.
Now, I’m looking at the end of the journey. It’s been a great one, and I’ve been so honored to share it with all of you. I have a few more things up my sleeve, so you may hear from me again about a more in-depth look into an unfulfilled project. Thanks for reading as always!

So I'm trying the same reaction with another EWG to hopefully get the same cyclization reaction to happen. Unfortunately there was some impurity in my starting material and I'm really concerned that it messed up the reaction but I'll find out tomorrow.

July 16th - coffee shop day ft. ramen from my roommate's birthday
Visited a cute local coffee shop with my roommate! I got a latte with almond syrup, which was good, but not as good as hazelnut. I finally got a plot to show the overall results of my project, and it shows interesting stuff (that I can't explain in detail because it's confidential 😭), so that's super exciting! I also got a start on my final presentation slides. I'm glad I have an overall conclusion to make instead of just a bunch of random observations. Tomorrow is for working on the slides more, which I unfortunately no longer really have an excuse to put off.

Sometimes I think about how from the outside I must look like a ridiculously ambitious undergraduate researcher, because I have an independent project that's been going on for two whole years and now involves traveling around the country to collaborate with a national multi-million-dollar NSF project. People keep mistaking me for a grad student and for a while our building's facilities guy was convinced I was the lab manager.
I did not ask for or plan any of this. I just tentatively asked a professor two years ago if I could maybe help out with his research. And ever since then he just keeps handing me projects and being like "Hey do you wanna do this thing? It'll be really cool." And I keep saying "Yeah, okay, sure."
I am having a fucking blast, though. It has in fact been really cool and I love my job even on days like today where I'm so stressed I'm nauseous because I did budget calculations wrong and there's a research scholarship application due tomorrow.

Senior Research Project
Tumblr media
Hi everyone! My name is Katherine and I’m a senior at Warren Wilson College currently finishing my bachelors degree in psychology. As someone with experience with a chronic illness, my undergraduate thesis is focused on how connections with media figures, loneliness, and chronic illnesses interact or influence each other. To take this survey, you don’t need to have a chronic illness (mental, physical, or noncommunicable; such as diabetes, cancer, respiratory issues, and heart disease). Likewise, if you have a chronic illness such as those mentioned previously, you don’t need to have a connection with a media figure to take this survey. Don’t have either? You can still take it! If anything I’ve said has intrigued you at all, click this link and give the survey a look :)
Thank you for reading and for your consideration in participating!
Are you not interested but know someone who might be? Send them the link!

How do plants breathe?
These tiny “mouths” in the picture are stomata, the pores on plants’ leaves that allow plants to “breathe”. Plants need to take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Stomata facilitate gas exchange in photosynthesis by letting these gasses in and out of the plant tissue. Plants are able to open and close their stomata, which is important since water vapour also escapes via the stomata. Closed stomata help prevent the plant from drying out.
These images are from my undergraduate research project which focused on the molecular signals controlling stomata opening and closing. These picture are the epidermis of Arabidopsis thaliana peeled off and seen under a light microscope.

Hello everyone!
My name is Amina and I am a BSc Psychology with Honours student at the University of Hertfordshire. I am also the principal researcher of a study that aims to investigate whether judging category relatedness within semantic memory can be influenced by the level of typicality the items have alongside whether high versus low autistic traits have any effect on the performance of different types of processing.
I am currently taking volunteers for this online study. Any adults aged 18 to 65 can volunteer and you do not need an official Autism diagnosis to take part.
In the study, you will be given an item/ definition/ scenario at the top of your screen and will have to decide which of two following words match best to that using your keyboard. After that is completed you will be given the RAADS-14 questionnaire to complete.
It will take roughly 15 minutes to complete. However, a maximum of 30 minutes is given for the entire study to be completed including the information sheet, consent form, debrief sheet, and the “breaks” given (which are just for momentarily resting your eyes and hands), otherwise I cannot use your data. Please note that this study cannot be completed on a mobile phone or tablet, it must be done on a computer/laptop as the keyboard is required for the study’s completion.
You can completed this study at anytime until 23:59 GMT on Friday 1st of March here:
https://research.sc/participant/login/dynamic/0D915D45-8D85-44F9-9B63-376AF0C70573
This study has been approved by the Ethics Committee at the University of Hertfordshire and is also being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Nicholas Shipp.
Your participation is very important for this study and is very much appreciated.
Thank you for your time!
Many Thanks
Amina
EDIT: Study is now no longer taking participants!!! Thank you all who took part and spread the word of my study, it definitely means a lot to me 💟

Hello there, friends!!
Good news— the study I previously posted about is ready to launch!! For those of you who did not see my last post, I’m doing a study on how noise sensitivity and learning styles may or may not predict academic performance in undergraduate college students! This is to fulfill some requirements to earn my degree, and in order for this study to be successful, I need at least 107 participants. If any of you who are undergraduate college students are interested in participating, all it is is taking a survey to assess your noise sensitivity level, learning style, and academic performance level. I would really appreciate it if any of you would consider taking the survey! This is completely voluntary participation and please do not feel obligated to participate, only if you want to! If you do not wish to participate and/or or not eligible, you can still help me and my awesome research partners out by reblogging this post and spreading the word, just like some of you did with my previous post (and even if you do participate, reblogging will help us out even more)!
Thank you again everyone! Here is the link:

The cyclization worked!!!! For once it worked! we used a different diazo starter so maybe that's what did it but I'm really happy about it working. The column was a little ridiculous though. If you're interested, the top spot on the TLC plate is the product, and the bottom is the starting material. There's still some left, but very little.

Yet another rainy library day - 6/21/23
If I'm honest I did not realize it was raining until I went to take that picture. I'm finally getting a handle on data frames and I've successfully plotted my data! Tomorrow is on to regressions!
