I hate to say it but 9 times out of 10 the toh fankids are some of the most unoriginal and bland fankids I’ve ever seen especially when it goes to naming them.

The h/l ones in particular have been so bad it hurts, but nothing will ever top the lum ity fankids I found whose names were Azura and Mittens.

I knowwww. I'm kind of undecided on how I feel about lumity kids being named Azura, because on one hand it's the thing that kinda brought them together so it's cute, but on the other hand Luz used Azura/Luzura as a pseudo-name the whole series & it's written into the plot as being important so like??? You know? But I agree wholeheartedly, the designs and the names,,, just say you only like the ship for one character/to make a mini-me from one of the characters that you can do whatever you want with story-wise. It's sooo bland and uncreative.

Also the grimwalker kids ones make me,, almost sick. Like what the fuck is wrong with you? You think Hunter would be okay doing that? Or want to do that? You think that wouldn't be traumatizing? I actually used to even follow the person you're talking about because they're someone that admitted to drawing hunt//low just bc it was popular and they wanted notes on art/popularity and didn't actually like the ship even, but the grimwalker kid after not looking at their blog for a while is what made me block them. alright i haven’t watched TOH since it ended and i’m gonna be honest i thought all the hexside stuff was boring and i didn’t pay much attention to the coven stuff. oops

Answering @septemberofgenders' ask in a new post bc I deleted the original ask on accident.

The general idea is that Luz, King, Willow, and Hunter all somehow end up on Sodor. Gus, Amity, and Vee all stay in the boiling isles though. Another important note is that the "present day" events for the kids on Sodor takes place during the cgi series. Exactly when I'm not certain, but the current idea is maybe a year or two before the BWBA era would've started. I've also debated on pushing TMR to take place a little closer to the beginning of the cgi series for this au, maybe a few years prior to Hunter's arrival.

Luz and Willow both got there around the same time when they were just a few months old each. Luz ended up being adopted by Sir Topham Hatt as his daughter, and Willow became the adopted daughter of Jenny Packard. Neither of them remember anything from their birthplaces, and they actually have completely new names from their adoptive parents, I just haven't solidly decided on their new names yet. So for now I'll call them by their birth names until their new names get decided. Luz loves Sodor and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. She's fully aware that she is adopted but has no urge to seek out her birth family. Why would she need to? She's got everything she could want right here! She's grown up seeing the engines pretty much every morning, the engines' drivers and firemen think she's a good kid, and Luz considers the steam engines to be her family. She especially likes hanging out with Gordon and Thomas, they're likely her favorites out of the entire group. Willow sometimes wonders if her birth parents miss her but tries not to think about it too much. The construction crew considers her their baby sister and they love her to bits, she does have a crush on Hunter, though the two don't see each other that often due to the odd living situation he has. Luz and Willow are the BEST of friends and they go to the same school, Luz would stand up against kids who tried to bully Willow, and Willow would help Luz understand school assignments she struggled to grasp. They're always there for each other and they especially love hanging out during the summer.

Hunter ended up there at 6 years old, he hadn't become old enough for Belos to start doing major damage to him, so he was incredibly desperate to return back to the boiling isles and his "uncle". Mr. Conductor stumbled across the poor kid and when Hunter explained his situation, the kind man offered to look after him and help him find a way back to his home realm…that is until MC noticed that Hunter displayed obvious signs of having grown up in a less than fantastic household. So, MC gave up the search and convinced Hunter to come back to Shining Time with him. MC made sure he got the poor kid a licensed therapist and lots of love so that he might start to heal. Hunter now lives in his own special room at the Shining Time train station as MC’s younger brother. He remembered that he'd been training to be the Golden Guard, so he gave himself the label of the Golden Conductor as he was now training to be a magical conductor like his older brother. He has his own uniform and supply of gold dust, and he's one of the few who knows about Lady's existence. He's definitely a lot better off than canon Hunter was at his age. Hunter remembered his name just fine, so he's pretty much the only one of the crew who keeps his birth name (again, King, Willow, and Luz's new names are undecided).

King was transported there when he was just a year old. In this au, Eda had found him not long after he'd hatched, and she took him home to raise him as he'd reached out to her just as any baby witch would. Her poor heart just couldn't say no to the little guy. He was her whole world and she'd constantly brag to her friends about her adorable little "demon" son, whom she'd named King, and he made her life so much better. Which is why Eda became a shambled mess when King disappeared and she couldn't find him. She became a rough and closed off witch, doubling down on her criminal acts and hesitating less to attack coven members as she was confident they had taken King from her. Eventually she met with Raine again and the two became allied, slowly re-kindling their relationship…and then Darius crashed in and became the third member of the alliance! Raine and Darius are pretty much two of the only people that Eda trusts nowadays. She's a pretty closed off person and both of her partners (yes they are a polycule in this au, I am not immune okay-) worry about her a lot, but they do their best to help her out with the grief that she just can't seem to let go of. Eda's commonly referred to as "The Owl Witch", as the emperor didn't think "owl lady" was serious enough. She's not just a lady, she's a dangerous wild witch with a curse that turns her into a monster that only two people can control…but Belos has never seen the faces of her two assistants. They're always wearing masks to hide…

King, however, has a very happy and comfortable life on the island of Sodor. While he was a very strange and shocking surprise that Luz brought home one night, King became a welcomed addition to the Hatt family and was treated just as Luz had been: one of their own. He's much more comfortable wearing clothes as Eda had put him in onesies when she had him and the Hatt family kept it up, he's one distinguished little guy! He's pretty close with Topham's grandkids, seeing as they're closer in age than King is to his older sisters and brother, especially considering that Charles and Barbara are both adults and don't live with their parents anymore. He and Luz do know them though! They get along pretty well. *Important Note: King's horn wasn't broken in this au, he very much still has both horns with no damage to either of them.

Amity ended up being the one to find and comfort Gus back in the isles. He clung to her from then on out, and Amity became his protector against bullies. They train together and Gus is a lot less insecure about his illusion magic having Amity at his side, he's the only one that she's soft around, and she's constantly encouraging him to get better and showing him books to improve with. They're pretty inseparable, and the only reason Amity's parents don't disapprove is because Odalia had witnessed Gus' power firsthand once. The kid's got a lot of potential, it just needs to be trained.

Hmm. Oh yeah, forgot Amity's parents are assholes. That kinda explains the twins being like that sometimes. Also, the genetics + memories suggest that Amity has her father's hair, but she dyes it to be more like her mother's, which already says a lot. Or maybe it's just witch genetics.

Hahah, figures Lilith would love being back in school. Also, interesting way of seeing how Eda would usually mix her magic.

I've been thinking about the "Making those things just to destroy them" line to Belos. Because it's true. The "kid" Belos was leading Luz and Hunter exactly to the memories that would almost certainly shake Hunter's belief and make him betray Belos. Damn.

Also, the name "grimwalker" suggests some sort of necromancy to me...

Gosh, you guys had years to analyze and speculate, I only have days, okay?! But my speculations have been pretty accurate so far, so. Shrug.

Raine destroying Eda's arm so that she lives, but also so that she can practice wild magic... Because they wanted to keep her safe and also promised Luz... Augh... But also I know in my heart of hearts that Eda is going to have the coolest collection of hooks. Once everyone lives and everything is ok. Right???????

About the Collector: I liked his shadow design much better, but oh well. What does he even collect? Also, note to self: a chaotic neutral with enough power might be functionally indistinguishable from a chaotic evil.

Ok, I've been thinking about what Belos said - that it "hurts every time" the grimwalkers decide to betray him, and also that he "doesn't want more people corrupted by this land". So I'm thinking: the "original" Hunter, whoever he was (brother?) and Philip disagreed on the whole witch hunting thing, and... Something happened, whether it was his intention or not. I've also been thinking about grimwalkers, and the lines "you were the most similar of them all", and "many of my ancestors didn't have magic" - if there is variation in looks and in powers, then I'm thinking that it might not be a case of straight-up necromancy or test tubes, but somehow... Transforming existing witches? Might be easier than creating one from scratch... Idk, I'm just spitballing here.

I'm probably gonna make a separate post about this, but wow this show is. Very good. Especially with developing every single even slightly important character, and giving them an interesting dynamic with the rest of the group. I was thinking about the kids that got sent to the Human Realm, and whether there was anyone there who hasn't interacted with each other... And the only thing I can really think of is Gus and Amity? But otherwise, they all have an interesting dynamic/relationship. I even see some possible interactions with Hunter and Vee, if they have time for it. Just... Man. This show is good. Also, it subverted my expectations so many times. I was like "in any other show, this would not have happened", but it did!!!

I love this show. I'm gonna watch Good Omens 2, but after that passes, I will watch the 3-part finale, and let myself actually join the fandom. Better late than never, eh?

Added later: Ok, now that the GO2 phase has died down, I think I'm gonna watch s3 soon.

listen, listen. the idea of the kids staying in the human realm for over a year and losing hope of ever going back is SO good. listen.

Luz definitely obsesses over finding a way to make a working portal again. She dedicates the rest of her life to it, definitely. This causes a rift between her and the rest of the group. By now, they’ve lost hope and just want to start building their own lives in the human realm

It causes a bigger rift between her and Amity. Amity wants to move on, but she holds onto Luz’s hope and promises. For a very long time, Amity sticks by Luz’s side even when everyone stops believing a thing Luz says. But they’re in school and soon enough, as they plan for college, Amity tries to get Luz to stop and just keep moving forward with life. There’s an argument where Luz doesn’t think Amity believes in her and Amity’s trying to salvage their relationship but even that’s hopeless in the end. (Don’t worry, I love a really good getting back together trope)

The kids do expand their hobbies and interests but in the end, they all trickle back down to their roots. So basically Willow: plant scientist, Gus: filmmaker and/or actor, Amity: engineer. And not going to lie, I really love the idea of Hunter becoming a paleontologist. Vee becomes a veterinarian like Camila.

I really like the idea of all of them being really good at these subjects and excelling enough to earn themselves scholarships, YES Willow gets a full ride on an athletic scholarship. She ends up going to a university outside of Connecticut. Amity wants to stay in state, in hopes of trying to help Luz, but things are still sour and she leaves in the end, following Willow. Hunter, who is the first to go to college, stays in state to stick close to Gus. Once Gus graduates high school and gets accepted to one of the many colleges he’s applied to, Hunter transfers out and follows him

Of course Vee stays in state. Her and Luz end up going to the same college and Luz, who stays undecided for as long as possible. (Saying this just because I want her to go into STEM, but also idk what type.) They don’t room together but Vee insists on sticking close because she’s worried for Luz because it’s been years and she’s still trying to get back to the Demon Realm

Eventually, they all really do start their own lives and are able to ignore the absence of their families. Hunter is the only one to really keep up with the Nocedas, and even then, it’s only through scarce texts that Vee sends him. She updates him on Luz, and at first, it’s still concerning until it starts to seem like Luz is making some sort of progress. By extension, Gus is the second one in the group to keep up with Luz and Vee through Hunter. He receives any information on them secondhand and Hunter doesn’t tell him that Luz thinks she’s found someway to get back because he doesn’t want to get Gus’s hopes up.

Nearing 30, Hunter is secretly very scared of Luz finding a way back to the Boiling Isles. He doesn’t want to know what the aftermath of the Collector is like, if there even is an aftermath. He doesn’t want to imagine what it would be like to go back and not have Darius or Perry there to greet him. Not to mention that he’s got a stable job and he’s got friends, and a possible budding romance. He’s gotten so far in the human realm that he doesn’t want to lose it. He doesn’t want to know which realm he’d pick if he was forced to choose. He doesn’t want to know that if he picked one, that Gus and the others might pick the other.

When Luz is overworked to the point of getting sick, Vee calls Hunter, first and only. Hunter drops everything and gives Gus a lame excuse as to why he has to leave so suddenly. Luz is sick and her family is worried. She ignores her life in favor of getting Hunter to tell her all about his. She’s happy for him, she loves him and hopes he knows that she’s doing this for him. For all of them (and definitely not for herself). She’s being kept under tight watch. Her mother, stays as much as possible, and her newly ex-girlfriend sticks around a bit longer to help out. Vee can’t do much, after a few years working in Connecticut, she had moved out of state and has her own family to worry about.

It’s fine. This is fine. Hunter can manage using his PTO to stay with Luz a little while, especially when her ex really has to leave. And it’s fine. They’re friends, ones who haven’t seen each other in very many years. They’re both different people now and yet they cherish the few similarities they find in each other. They both have long hair that they hate but won’t bother to cut. Neither have had much success in their love lives. They’ve done good with their degrees. They’re content where they are, for the most part. Then

Then Luz confesses that she’s close. So close to finishing the portal. Hunter is in shock and he both loves and hates this information. Luz just about begs him to finish it for her. He’s made a portal once, with Belos. He could do it again, for Luz, for all of them.

He doesn’t want to, but at the same time, he does. In the end, he agrees. In the end, he finds himself quitting his job and coming up with excuses for Gus, for his potential partner. And he finds himself in that fixed-up old, abandoned house turned into Luz’s workplace. He finds himself reading off her findings and working through her instructions. He finds himself not getting enough sleep and when he does, he gets nightmares about his time as the Golden Guard. And within I don’t know, a few months? A year or two? It’s undecided, but in some time, he finds himself with a functional portal. He doesn’t know if it’s a good or bad idea to tell everyone. They’ve all got lives, they’ve all got jobs and homes. Would they leave it all behind if they realized they could go back to the Demon Realm?

(Luz doesn’t like it. Camila had been slowly moving his things down there, but the one day when everything that reminded her mom of her dad went down there, and then they held the funeral, and-)

Luz goes down there when she’s sad one day. There’s a ton of books, a ton of supplies, and even a few costumes. Luz can barely remember when her mom wore one of these.

She wants to keep Luz safe.

Luz opens up a book, and has her first encounter with her father being a man of wild magic. Officially he was undecided, many older people were, but she looks into his books, his diaries, and she knows.

He studied all types of magic to use for good. To help others. To become part of a community she didn’t even know about before he passed.

Luz, too, starts to use different types of magic. For herself, yes, and it makes sense that limiting magic would be weird... but also because that’s something she can take from her father, after his disappearance/death.

It’s something she’ll always be proud of.
