I haven’t drawn a mermaid since like…2020. This was delightful.

Why does this drawing exist? Well because I thought mermaid tella would be cute and I thought “I should write a fic”. Then I remembered I can’t write, so I made this instead

As mentioned I can’t write so I’ll just dump the headcanon things I had here

Tella can’t talk, he whistles and clicks like a dolphin but billy is teaching him morse code as a means of communication.

Billy is an ex-pirate who lives by the beach with Tatiana. I had the silly concept of billy wearing two eye patches as a pirate, just to screw with people and hopefully throw them off with the “ he definitely can’t see me” thing (which tbf he can’t )

I had 2 separate first meeting things, one is Tella singing and billy getting distracted and falling off a boat and tella dragging him out of the water to stop him drowning and the other is Billy coming across an injured mermaid and going from there. I like to think wound treating is a big deal to merfolk since being injured is basically a death sentence as a fish so having someone help with that is … important.

Tella isn’t a name, I like to think it’s a translation thing, mer don’t have conventional names epithets are more common. Tella doesn’t sing due to… tragic reasons I haven’t fleshed out yet… so they refer to him as “one who speaks “ or something like that, which billy interprets as teller (Tella).

Billy : I don’t have the equipment to pronounce that, got anything else?

Tella: <it more or less means speaker >

eyes emoji... i started writing the fic a while ago and then lost track of it because. waves hand. life happened ritsuhokke infested my brain etc etc BUT yeah :3 i was rly excited to make natsume interact with hokuto and souma i think. like. souma is just this very specific kind of take everything literal and very earnest loyal to a fault im sure natsume would find it rly endearing and fun to play around with? but then also idk. gestures at souma mika koga hokuto they're all the kind of guys to have like ... an unexpectedly earnest and genuine and meaningful compliment come from them at the funniest of times and it would take natsume completely by surprise. i think initially natsume is like "what if i just . dated all of u. both because itll make my nii-sans mad i outplayed them and because i had fun on all of our dates" and its just natsume dating the other four and then as they all hang out more they find reasons to start dating other members of the natsume harem....... the idea of all of them showing up to one of hokuto's theatre club performances is fun. i think puddle windypuddle the beloved suggested kamegorou and leon meeting which still lives in my head rent free <3 but yeah theyre so silly in my brain i love them
