the older I get, the more the technological changes I've lived through as a millennial feel bizarre to me. we had computers in my primary school classroom; I first learned to type on a typewriter. I had a cellphone as a teenager, but still needed a physical train timetable. my parents listened to LP records when I was growing up; meanwhile, my childhood cassette tape collection became a CD collection, until I started downloading mp3s on kazaa over our 56k modem internet connection to play in winamp on my desktop computer, and now my laptop doesn't even have a disc tray. I used to save my word documents on floppy discs. I grew up using the rotary phone at my grandparents' house and our wall-connected landline; my mother's first cellphone was so big, we called it The Brick. I once took my desktop computer - monitor, tower and all - on the train to attend a LAN party at a friend's house where we had to connect to the internet with physical cables to play together, and where one friend's massive CRT monitor wouldn't fit on any available table. as kids, we used to make concertina caterpillars in class with the punctured and perforated paper strips that were left over whenever anything was printed on the room's dot matrix printer, which was outdated by the time I was in high school. VHS tapes became DVDs, and you could still rent both at the local video store when I was first married, but those shops all died out within the next six years. my facebook account predates the iphone camera - I used to carry around a separate digital camera and manually upload photos to the computer in order to post them; there are rolls of undeveloped film from my childhood still in envelopes from the chemist's in my childhood photo albums. I have a photo album from my wedding, but no physical albums of my child; by then, we were all posting online, and now that's a decade's worth of pictures I'd have to sort through manually in order to create one. there are video games I tell my son about but can't ever show him because the consoles they used to run on are all obsolete and the games were never remastered for the new ones that don't have the requisite backwards compatibility. I used to have a walkman for car trips as a kid; then I had a discman and a plastic hardshell case of CDs to carry around as a teenager; later, a friend gave my husband and I engraved matching ipods as a wedding present, and we used them both until they stopped working; now they're obsolete. today I texted my mother, who was born in 1950, a tiktok upload of an instructional video for girls from 1956 on how to look after their hair and nails and fold their clothes. my father was born four years after the invention of colour televison; he worked in radio and print journalism, and in the years before his health declined, even though he logically understood that newspapers existed online, he would clip out articles from the physical paper, put them in an envelope and mail them to me overseas if he wanted me to read them. and now I hold the world in a glass-faced rectangle, and I have access to everything and ownership of nothing, and everything I write online can potentially be wiped out at the drop of a hat by the ego of an idiot manchild billionaire. as a child, I wore a watch, but like most of my generation, I stopped when cellphones started telling us the time and they became redundant. now, my son wears a smartwatch so we can call him home from playing in the neighbourhood park, and there's a tanline on his wrist ike the one I haven't had since the age of fifteen. and I wonder: what will 2030 look like?

soft headcannons with tr
♡ I grant a wish for whoever summons me and take one thing as a payment ♡   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ♡when Baji gets bored gets bored, he doodles on your hands. but if you don't like that he will draw all over your scrap papers that you're using to finish your homework ♡if you have a favorite scent (pumpkin, lavender, ect..) Mitsuya will spray it all over his room to remind him of you. especially when you come over so that he can make you happy with the smell ♡Chifuyu calls you late at night to ramble about the thoughts that are keeping him up (an anime or manga he finished), and he loves it when you do the same ♡Souya links pinkies with you whenever you’re out in public but Nouya prefers holding your entire hand ♡Inui is a sucker for when you play with his hair or massage his scalp ♡Wakasa likes when you trace random shapes and letters over his skin, and it becomes a game of some sorts for him to guess what you're tracing ♡Izana is the type who’ll set up a blanket on the roof of some penthouse for you two to lay on and look up at the stars together  ♡Sanzu is going to melt if you kiss his scars and making a comment about how all of him is beautiful  ♡if you come over to Souya to give him a hug, Nouya will ALWAYS pop up with a grin and says, “what about me?” ...they're a package deal :)) ♡When you need Kakucho’s opinion at a clothing store for if you look good, he will always say “you look wonderful in that” because he looks at you like you're a god from another realm ♡Koko will tell you if something isn't your style. he isn't afraid to tell you because he’ll magically have something in his hands that looks a million times better ♡Koko will always buy you the newest product from this beauty line you like before you even learned something new was out  ♡you know how they say when someone is in love, they tend to copy habits of who they love? Sanzu does this by having notifications set on his phone that involve your likes because he's starting like almost everything that you do ♡Inui loves when you hug him from behind. it doesn't matter if he's cooking, talking to Koko, or doing anything really. he likes having you close to him and enjoys the feeling of you nuzzling into his back ♡Shin is a total simp for you. he has a picture of you on the back of his phone, a picture of you in his wallet, an album on his phone that's just photos of you, and even has one in his coat pocket. at this point it's like he walks around with a shrine of you ♡Mikey learned from his older brother, and when he's talking to his friends and all of a sudden, his eyes will light up and he’ll say “oh this reminds me of this thing y/n did the other day” which then begins his long ramble about you. even if the conversation has nothing to do with you, he will always find a way to bring you up ♡Mitsuya has a sketchbook that is only filled with wedding dresses/suits with the idea and mind that you will walk down the aisle wearing one of these ♡Izana likes it when you sing as he plays his guitar even if you're awful and have so many voice cracks. he finds it adorable ♡Chifuyu has a picture in his phone somewhere of you napping with Peke J on your chest ♡Sanzu has your coffee order memorized. whenever he goes out to get coffee, he always orders you a cup as well. it's become such a habit that he's accidentally bought you coffee when you already had one ♡the first time Ran saw you doing skincare he was mesmerized. so, he wanted to join you and dragged Rin into it (despite the younger’s protests). now it's become a habit to do skincare with the Haitani brothers  ♡Mitsuya may be the caretaker in your relationship, but it’d just make his entire morning if you were to give him breakfast in bed ♡Chifuyu enjoys laying his head on your lap and hearing you read the light novel version of his favorite manga ♡Ran likes when you braid his hair for him. he secretly swings his braids around more harsh and crazier than usual when you do his hair just so that he can see you sigh and start to do his hair again and feel you brush it and stuff ♡Rindou loves cuddling but is too nervous to initiate so he’ll just sit and mope next to you on the couch until you realize. luckily you notice rather quickly because he won't stop fiddling with your sleeve ♡if you're cold Kakucho will IMMEDIATELY try to warm you up. this man is putting his scarf around you, trying to warm your hand by holding them in his, even giving up his whole coat and setting it on your shoulders, ect ♡as we all know Mitsuya takes care of Luna and Mana, and he just loves seeing you interact with his sisters. he likes seeing how comfortable they are with you and how they always ask, “when's the next time y/n-san comes over?”. It’s one of the things that made him realize he's in love with you ♡when you and Mikey cuddle, he’s lying on top of you and falls asleep to the sound of your heartbeat  ♡if you and Hakkai are out doing something together and your mom calls you to check up on you, he gives you the perfect silence you need. but right before you hang up, he’ll quickly exclaim “tell her i said hi!” ♡whenever Kazutora wants to hug you or give physical affection he always asks for permission first. for example, “hey baby can i-and you don't have to say yes- can I hug you?” please let him hug you and kiss his forehead :((

valeria as your girlfriend headcanons
Tumblr media
summary: just valeria being silly and unserious for all of these.
author notes: i don't know nothing about cod.. all i know is based off fics so don't blame me if this a little inaccurate. anyways there isn't enough of silly valeria out there so i had to do it 💪🏽 lack of spanish because im not that good at it just yet
Tumblr media
━ she's a BULLY. always teasing you about something even if it's super small
━ texts like "Okay." which always makes you think she's mad at you but in reality she's just old
━ prefers call over text 100% because she likes hearing your voice
━ ever since those tiktoks that are like "when my girlfriend always takes facetime photos of me" yeah that's valeria after you taught her how to take facetime photos. she got a whole album in a gallery just of the facetime photos she taken of you
━ has you saved as "mi esposa 💞" but use to have you saved cabezona when you two first got together
━ loves matching pajamas but always end up only wearing the shirt and some boxers because she gets hot easily
━ runs hot and doesn't care if it bothers you because she's all over you
━ always want cuddles from she come back from business trips
━ everytime y'all are apart she facetimes you at night. really late too so you most likely aren't even talking just setting the phone up before you sleep and she's content with that
━ can't sleep that well without you. use to not care for sleep, but once you fixed her horrible sleep schedule she can hardly sleep without you in the bed
━ speaking of sleep, will drag you to bed when she's ready for bed even if you aren't
━ her gallery is full of just you because she doesn't use her phone for much else but you related things
━ loves forehead kisses from you. find them so romantic
━ she's actually such a romantic once her trust issues got figured out
━ sorta moody almost all the time and gets all annoyed if you don't try to make her feel better
━ low-key (high-key) jealous whenever she sees you with someone else. especially if you hang out with them without her. "what position are y'all in?" type of woman
━ calls you amor, mi vida, chiquita, chula, and baby when feeling romantic / just general
━ and calls you bighead, dumbie, and princesa when she's teasing you or annoyed or being sarcastic
━ clingy but won't admit it
━ everytime you ask her to do something, she be like "im a grown woman i don't take orders from you" before getting up and doing it right away because she loves her woman
━ when valeria is inlove and feeling all safe she is INLOVE like wants to be around you all the time, already planning the wedding
━ got your name tattooed on you two's fifth anniversary. if you can deal with her for that long than you are definitely the one
━ always smacking your ass
━ overall a secret lover girl in disguise

So while stepdad!aus aren’t my cup of tea I will posit the question to the group….
Isn’t Lloyd Hansen a very stepdad type of guy that gets into the family for some work purpose but ends up walking away with you? He’s just giving the vibe 😳
dear goodness… all holy beings look away

Tumblr media
“T-Too full,” you try to get away, clawing at the bed sheets as his thick, red tip prods at your creamy hole, “can’t—not again.”
“You can,” Lloyd spits on your cunt as if you weren’t already a wet, sticky mess. His head traces up and down your slit, paying extra attention to your sensitive clit. “Remember? You promised me a special gift for Father’s Day.”
Through blurry vision, you spot the handmade card and photo album on his nightstand. That was the gift you spent weeks making, between fussing (and failing) with the card multiple times, and collecting and arranging the perfect album of your stepfather, Lloyd has been in the back of your mind in more ways than one.
The gift wasn’t your idea, it was your mother’s. She wanted Lloyd to feel welcomed to the family despite it all being business, just a marriage between two of the city’s most influential people for security, power and status.
She wanted him to feel at home and ultimately, like he belonged. And to do that, she wanted you to be a sweetheart, to create and gift it to him yourself.
“He’s your stepfather and the reason we aren’t back in that terrible place again.”
You know she didn’t think he’d fuck you in their shared bed.
“Remember when you used to avoid me? Go out whenever I was home, I heard you even wanted to skip the wedding.” He whispers in your ear, the low creamy tone makes you melt. “Thought you hated me—now look at you, taking my cock like a good girl.” He presses on your stomach, pinning you down as he pounds into your sloppy cunt. “So full of my cum, you gonna let me fill you up again, sunshine?”
“Didn’t hate you…” You trail off to a moan as he kisses your jaw, slowly working down your neck.
“Well, you didn’t like me either.” Lloyd murmurs against your skin, groaning as your legs wrap around his hips and pull him deeper. “Fuck—you were such a daddy’s girl, huh? Didn’t want me taking his spot?”
He wasn’t wrong. You weren’t sold on the newest addition to your family, especially so soon after your parents divorce and your father’s arrest. Regardless of how grateful your mother, and the rest of your siblings were, and Lloyd’s reputation and wealth, this new man would never amount to your father.
But as your mother stated, you needed the label, protection, and image.
She was a woman who never faltered, even with the rumors of her cheating husband, and his untimely arrest for fraud. She will stand unwavered, and unaffected by the publicity.
She remains steady with resolve, and will happily marry another high status man within a few months. Even if that man happened to be far worse than your father, neck deep in shady businesses and bad things. To the public, Lloyd was a clean, sophisticated CEO who was the perfect replacement for your cheating and lying father.
Right now, he’s your stepfather fucking you into the bed he shares with your mother, pumping you with another load while you squirt all over his length. He doesn’t stop or slow down, if anything, the oversensitivity makes him more ravenous. He loves watching you tremble on his cock, caught between begging for a break and pleading for more.
Your arms shoot out, yanking him down for a messy kiss full of clashing teeth and warm breaths. “Wanted you so badly. Please—don’t stop.” You moan, twitching under him when he pulls out, plugging you with the heavy tip before ramming forward.
With every thrust, your head brushes the headboard. Lloyd fucks his cum into you, forcing you to take the previous loads and his fat girth, he wants to mark you from the inside out. Your cries are music to his ears, he wishes he could watch his cum dribble out around his dick, and smear down your ass to the once-clean sheets. But, he doesn’t want to move, this position with your breasts against his chest, your fingers digging into his shoulders, and your pulsating walls milking his cock—if he had a choice, he’d never move.
“I know, your new daddy knows, baby.” He coos, lowering his body until his balls touch the filthiness between your thighs. He’s pressed to the hilt, you can practically feel him in your guts. With slow grinds, he watches as you sink into the mattress, small hiccuping breaths escape your parted lips. “Poor baby, those college boys don’t know how to fuck you. They don’t know how to stretch out this little pussy, make you a stupid mess—bet they leave you high and dry.”
You can’t do anything but take his pounding, tears trailing down your face as he rams into your spot. Your whole body tenses, and your cunt sucks him deeper, hungry for more despite there being no room left. Squelching noises bounce off the walls and make you cover your face, weeping into your hands as he splits you apart.
He leans back, and between your fingers, you watch his abs flex and his neck tense. A guttural groan rumbles from within his chest, a stark contrast to your blubbering of daddy, daddy, daddy. Lloyd moves your hands and brings one to his mouth, sucking your fingers and swirling his tongue.
“You’re going to come for me again.”
You immediately shake your head, but make no movements to escape, all too lost in the pleasure. Your hand is pulled from his mouth soaked with his salvia, and as if in slow motion, you watch him bring it to your cunt—and that’s when you try to get away.
Lloyd easily tugs you back, pounding harder and deeper. He’s rearranging your insides, pulling you to meet his thrusts, then reaching down to collect your cream that’s formed a ring around his base. He shoves his fingers between your lips, fucking your mouth as a mixture of your salvia and arousal drip from the corners of your lips.
“Look at you, getting fucked from both ends. All that’s missing is something in your ass.” He hooks your knee over his shoulder, stretching your sore hole, and exposing yourself to the hot air. You can only imagine how filthy you look down there. “Slap your clit before I do it for you.”
The next few moments have faded into one. Between his unrelenting thrusts shoving your sweaty body higher on the bed, and his demands of harder, and to spank your clit until it hurts—you fall over the egde again.
“I know no one knows how to make you do that. That’s it, such a good girl for daddy.” He leans back, watching you squirt and cover his lower half in your release. Your whole body convulses as a silent mewl pours from your mouth, tears of pleasure and pain stream down your face. His thrusts have slowed into thorough grinds as sticky strings connect your most intimate parts.
You allow him to move you as he pleases, dragging out your orgasm as it bleeds into another—you can barely breathe as he rubs your sore clit, his rough fingertips are cruel on your overworked button.
His face his inches away and blush blooms over his skin. “I’m going to leave your mother, and you’re going to come with me.” He promises, swooping down to kiss your tear-stained cheeks. Lloyd can’t reisst licking a few. “You’re going to be my little wife, and I’m going to fuck you like this everyday, fill this tight cunt with my cum, and you’re going to make me a real daddy.”
His hips rail forward as you lay a limp mess, still crying as he pumps you full. His cum spurts along your sore walls, trying to find space but there isn’t any left, and it seeps out around his girth, leaking down your ass and his heavy balls. These sheets will never be saved.
Then, the door downstairs opens, and your mother’s voice rings out.
Lloyd pulls back with a smile, sweat brimming at his hairline. “Looks like it’s time to share the news, pumpkin.” He takes pride in your dazed expression, you probably can't even hear him now, let alone process his words. Slowly, he starts fucking his cum into you, desperate to knock you up for the final nail in the coffin of his marriage to your mother.
Wet noises seep into your foggy mind, playing dully in the background to your Lloyd-filled thoughts. He’s successfully fucked you stupid, and you’ve never felt so good.
Your cunt is filled to the brim, his seed coating your core, marking you with his scent and presence. Each grind sends shocks throughout your body, your pussy is a pathetic mess—there’s no doubt that he’s got you pregnant already—and that brief realization shoves you deeper under the surface of pleasure.
Lloyd groans as you start to meet his motion, although weak and stuttering, you silently tell him you want him too. “Or maybe, she should catch us, hm? Wouldn’t that be interesting?”

mamma mia (again) ! daniel r. x ofc (måneskin member! ofc)
“they ask me why i’m so hot, ‘cause i’m italiano.”
summary: a series of video clips, but it’s only just danny ric being in love with a certain lester alessandro.
content warning: hint or two of suggestive comments (nothing detailed or graphic), use of explicit language, filler blurb or something, danny being a simp for few videos straight (“have my kids” type beat), lester being an etsy and pinterest enthusiast, literally posted this blurb from my phone so they’re crazy about their image limits 😩
note: THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THE 105 FOLLOWERS?! UHM? seriously, i’ve never been so happy. i honestly only started posting these because i have them ingrained in my brain and won’t let go until i write or make something. just indulging my imagination you know? enjoy xx

𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐔𝐁𝐄 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓: 𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐘 𝐑𝐈𝐂 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐒𝐈𝐌𝐏
【VIDEO ONE — daniel ricciardo is a gatekeeper】
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[1st image: yeah, i dunno. everyone just found out that i made it official with my girlfriend and i’m pretty sure i just saw lando weeping in his room. max was the second to react to it and i’m so sure he recoiled. he did say that he didn't want to know what happened in imola few months ago.]
[2nd: interviewer: what happened in imola few months ago? daniel: *chuckles* wouldn’t you like to know - nah, i’m messing about. nothing happened in imola besides from me retiring to my bed early. i think we were both drunk when i posted that photo and i know it looks lewd but there's no way we could've done anything questionable.]
[3rd: d: but yeah. we didn't really want to catch that much attention until maybe i don't know... when we're married or something *chuckles* i: keep it a secret until the wedding? d: yeah. but charles, the absolute fool, posted videos during the concert with me in the background. It would've been real nice if no one caught onto it until we had a mini ric running and racing, you know? just to wreak havoc.]
【VIDEO TWO — daniel ricciardo talks about lester’s love language in his gq video】
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[1st: i got this journal from lori. it has my initials "DR" on it for daniel ricciardo*laughs* it's one of those many first gifts that i’ve gotten from her throughout our first few months of dating. her love language isn't just shitting on my life -she has every single aspect of love language within her and this is one of them.]
[2nd: when she gave this to me, all she said was "you can write out your thoughts if you can't let them out through your mouth. *giggles* "she clearly had her thoughts sorted out that time especially when she showed me a page with an embossed phrase or nickname, "tasso di miele" - it means honey badger. she apparently bought the custom embosser from etsy and almost fought tooth and nail just to get it in time. *laughs even more* i love her so much, i honestly wanted to cry that day.]
[3rd: lori actually has a laptop with *laughs* itunes on it and she still got some playlists from 2010-2014? yeah. she’s put a lot of old taylor swift songs in my ipod during the christmas break. my favourite album right now is speak now. she loves red.]
【VIDEO THREE — lester hates ashy hands confirmed】
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[1st: daniel: i think i should just cover my hands with gloves all the time. lando: that literally has nothing to do with anything that we're about to do. d: lori tells me that my hands are rough whenever she holds them.]
[2nd: l: or you know... you can just use a hand lotion all the time because your hands dry up real fast? d: ah that's true. i wonder if that's why lori just casually put a bottle of hand cream on my travel bag. the thing smells nice though. it’s chamomile.]
【VIDEO FOUR — it’s okay to spoil your partner; even if it’s an accent chair from her pinterest board】
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[1st: d: lori just sent me a picture of an armchair from ikea. l: why was she randomly in ikea, by the way? I saw the text. d: window shopping. but anyway, she saw this armchair that she had on her pinterest board. she asked "pretty or no?" with the green velvet chair. l: what did you tell her?]
[2nd: word to word? I texted her "LOL you should see the accent chair I've gotten you for our flat in monaco." l: are you serious? *laughs* d: she wouldn't tell me what she wanted for her birthday. I only got a brief idea when she left her phone in my pocket once and gave me a free access to her pinterest boards.]

What Was I Made For?
| this story was inspired by the song ‘What Was I Made For?’ |
| a companion to ‘Pretty’ |
The roundness of her stretched-out stomach brings a mix of emotions to Soarynn’s throat.
She cried when she noticed it. Her period was late. Not that she was used to getting her period altogether, only for a few months. Ever since Coriolanus made her get the implant in her arm removed. He insisted on it, insisted on finishing inside of her and knowing that it could lead to a child of his growing inside of her.
Sometimes she loves it. Loves her child. How could a mother not love her child? She hasn’t even met him yet and she already loves him so dearly.
But on the other hand, she’s deeply terrified. The birth itself scares her the most. She doesn’t have a mother anymore because of her own birth and while she doesn’t think it would affect Coriolanus the way it affected her father, she knows it would be a significant loss nonetheless.
She also worries for her child. Her unborn son. Coriolanus had been elated when they found out that they were having a boy. An heir. A son. Another thing to dangle over her head. She worries about how their son will be treated, that he’ll grow up under the same type of roof that Coriolanus did, and that their child will be a horrible, terrible person who takes advantage of people and their kindness.
Coriolanus knows all about that.
People thought she had been crying tears of joy at their wedding, thought that she was overcome with emotion and she was. Just not in a good way. Watching him slip that ring onto her finger was like watching him slip a noose around her neck.
Soarynn was trapped.
No getting out. Ever.
Being married to Coriolanus was the end of so many things for her. She belonged to him now, mind, body, and soul. He dictated what she wore, what she said, what she ate, and where she went.
Soarynn often looked through old photo albums of her when she was a little girl. Sure she had been a bit awkward but she was happy.
Her fingers trace the pages of one of the albums as she sits in their library, reminiscing on the good times she had before Coriolanus. Most photos just consist of her. No friends or family. But she was okay with that.
She’s sitting in his favorite chair. The chair he sat in while he watched her fall apart over her books burning up in the fireplace. It still leaves a sour taste in her mouth whenever she’s reminded of it. Not that Coriolanus reminds her. He simply moved past it and expected her to do the same.
Soarynn smiles at a photo of her in the backyard of her old townhouse. She has ribbons in her hair and she’s wearing a pink dress with the biggest smile on her face.
“When did it end?” She whispers to herself as she turns to the next page, “All the enjoyment?”
Coriolanus doesn’t like to linger in the past, not when he’s got such a bright future ahead of him. And she really can’t blame him for that. For his ambition. Soarynn has lots of things to blame him for so she put aside his massive ego.
He’s at work right now. Once it hits six o’clock he’ll leave work and be home by six-thirty. Soarynn will serve him dinner and they’ll sit at their dining room table and discuss their days. Coriolanus will tell her about work and Soarynn will tell him about all the places she went to today.
At the beginning of their marriage, Soarynn did her best to ignore going to public events without Coriolanus. Despite how horrible he was, he was a source of stability in hectic scenes such as Capitol parties and social gatherings. Soarynn was more than happy to stay glued to his side as long as she didn’t have to talk to anyone.
But once they got married a certain precedent was set upon her and she was left to go to many of these things alone. Soarynn loved to be alone but going to an art gallery alone was a different thing entirely. Many other high society women would approach her and to their credit, they tried to make small talk. But Soarynn would freeze like a mouse in a trap. Make up some lies and leave early.
She got away with it for a good two months until Coriolanus found it and confronted her about it. “No wife of mine is ever going to be seen leaving an event early ever again. Do you understand me Soarynn?” He’d snarled, grabbing her throat and nearly slamming her into the nearest wall. Soarynn had been terrified of her husband, a man who could now inflict as much pain as he wanted onto her because they both knew she was trapped.
Soarynn had nodded and then she cried. Coriolanus comforted her in that sick twisted way he always did, the same way he did when he took her virginity or burned her books. He had whispered all sorts of deceptive words in her ear after fucking her senseless and then witnessing another breakdown over her books.
Soarynn’s books had been her one escape and he took that from her.
“I know, I know darling,” he had whispered, rubbing his hand up and down her back all whilst still inside of her, “it hurt me more than it hurt you, I need you to understand how hard that was for me Soarynn.”
Soarynn had tuned him out for the most part. She did that a lot lately, just nodding her head and putting on that pretty smile he loved so much. It was much easier when she didn’t argue back, didn’t put up a fuss over something he deemed “so insignificant.”
The grandfather clock in the hallway struck five, pulling Soarynn from her reminiscent thoughts and she slowly shut the album. “We should get ready for dinner,” she says softly, resting her hands on her rather large bump. She’s tried every trick in the book to ensure that their son arrives happy and healthy and that includes talking to him as if he can hear or understand her.
Sometimes it feels like he’s the only one she can talk to, can trust. Coriolanus has turned everyone against her it seems in one way or another.
His mother had told Soarynn all about her pregnancy and how boys were much more difficult to carry than girls in her opinion. She had also been elated to find out that Soarynn was pregnant, that she would soon be gifted a grandchild. Crassus Snow didn’t seem to share the same sentiment, he was pleased but that was about it.
Soarynn slowly pushes herself up from her husband’s chair and rests her hand on the top of it as she steadies herself. Being pregnant was absolutely exhausting. And she had gotten to the stage where she could no longer see or reach her toes. Coriolanus of course, loved this. Loved how helpless she was now that she was pregnant. He loved bathing her, dressing her, slipping on her shoes. And because he was oh-so selfless he even took it upon himself to ensure that she was properly groomed in all places. It was horrible.
Soarynn sucks in a deep breath as a pain shot throughout her ribs. She rubs her stomach, in hopes of alleviating the pain but it persists. Soarynn nervously eyes the telephone that sits on the fireplace’s mantel. She could call Coriolanus at work, but he’d be furious. She’d only done it once to inquire about an event they would be attending later that night and he berated her over the phone and in person once he got home.
“Do not ever call me at work Soarynn. I don’t give a fuck if the penthouse is on fire. There are lots of people you can call before calling me,” he’d said so sternly, grabbing her jaw and forcing her to look him in the eye. She never called again.
But the pain was getting worse and didn’t this constitute an emergency? Soarynn let out a pained moan as she began to feel light-headed. She stumbles towards the fireplace, nearly falling to the floor but she manages to catch the edge of the mantel. “Oh, fuck,” she whispers, resting her head on the mantle's edge, “oh goodness.”
Perhaps she should just go to bed early. Coriolanus will call the doctor who will come tomorrow and most likely prescribe her some vitamins or supplements. Soarynn has taken a plethora of pills throughout this pregnancy, all given to her by the doctor to ensure it goes as smoothly as possible.
That might be her favorite thing about being pregnant. The fact that Coriolanus can’t make her take those awful pills that leave her limp like a ragdoll. He tried to make her take one on the night of their wedding but eventually gave up once he saw how upset it made Soarynn. The wedding itself had been awful enough so to see her newly wedded husband pull out those pills sent her over the edge. Soarynn had experienced what Coriolanus called a “panic attack” where she cried so hard that she couldn’t breathe and then she threw up.
What a wonderful night to remember.
Soarynn lets out another hiss of pain and nearly falls to the floor as her vision turns spotty. If Coriolanus wasn’t so against hiring maids or a cook then Soarynn would have called out to someone for help. But she’s all alone in this place. Besides Petunia who’s fast asleep in their bedroom.
He likes that she's all alone with nothing to do but wait for him to come home.
Something is wrong, something is very wrong but Soarynn's never done this, been through this. Did her own mother ever deal with this? Is this something that happens during pregnancy?
Soarynn feels something trickling down her leg and for a moment she wonders if she's lost all control of her bladder. She heard that can happen when you're pregnant due to the pressure of the baby. She looks down at the floor and nearly throws up when she sees blood running down her leg.
Not an accident, not her water breaking. Blood.
Soarynn chokes out a sob as she grabs for the telephone, her vision becoming more and more spotty as more blood trickles out of her and down her leg onto the hardwood floor. She should call Coriolanus. This constitutes an emergency. But didn't he mention a big meeting that was happening today? What if he gets mad? Or says she's making it into a bigger deal than it is?
More pain shoots through her body and Soarynn cries out, attempting to hold her stomach but failing as her knees buckle out from under her and she's forced to grip the mantel with all her strength. She needs help, needs to call someone. But who? Who does she know? She doesn't have any friends. Not real ones anyway.
And most people are at work. Who does she know that doesn't work? That could help her in this state of emergency?
The Vickers. The Vickers who helped the other Mrs. Snow when she was bleeding out. Soarynn frantically dials their number, praying for someone to answer. She hasn't really spoken to Lysistrata since that one afternoon when Festus called them those nasty names. Coriolanus didn't like her hanging around them so she didn't hang around them. Simple as that.
Soarynn whimpers as the phone rings, and rings, and rings until finally, someone picks up, "Vickers residence, to whom am I speaking?" Soarynn doesn't recognize the voice which means Lysistrata isn't home but she's desperate for anyone at this point. "Hello?" She gasps, the pain causing her to grit her teeth, "Hello this is Soarynn Snow." The line goes silent for a second and Soarynn fears they might have lost a connection. "Soarynn? Soarynn Nightingale?"
Hearing her maiden name is an all too painful reminder of the girl she used to be. Coriolanus took everything from her, including her last name.
"Yes," she says, "yes that's me. I...I need help." In the moment she realizes how crazy she must sound. Coriolanus would be furious if he heard her talking just now, heard how rude and informal she was being but she doesn't quite care at the moment. "What's wrong dear? Is your husband home?" Soarynn nearly laughs at the question because for once she wishes her husband was home. "No," she says, "no he's at work and there's blood and I'm pregnant and," she stops herself for a moment, debating on whether or not to admit her fear, "and I'm scared," she whispers, tears falling down her face.
She's scared for herself, for her baby, and how Coriolanus will react.
Whoever is on the other line begins shouting all sorts of things and Soarynn can hear people in the background, "Soarynn? Soarynn you stay right there sweetheart, okay? We're coming."
Soarynn feels some sort of relief knowing that help is on the way but she's still scared. And what will Coriolanus think when he comes home to find her missing? She needs to call Festus.
Festus is practically her husband's right-hand man, he was the best man at their wedding and he even has a key to their penthouse. Soarynn knows his number by heart. She also knows that he's already home from work. She feels terrible for hanging up the phone but her guilt doesn't stop her from doing it before she's dialing the Creed's number.
Festus thankfully picks up immediately and she can hear him arguing with his wife Persephone, "Just give me a fucking minute Persephone," he hisses, "anyways, sorry about that, what do you need Coriolanus? More drugs? A freakier wife?" Soarynn pales at his vulgar questions but chooses to ignore them for the time being, "Festus," she whispers, her strength fading away by the second. "Soarynn? What's wrong? Is Coriolanus home?"
Soarynn bites back a pained cry and she looks back down to see a pool of blood has accumulated on the floor and she feels herself slowly fading into unconsciousness. "I...I'm having a miscarriage," she whispers before the world goes black.
꧁ ꧂
"Soarynn? Soarynn can you hear me?"
Everything feels so far away. Soarynn can hear people, feel her body being moved but she only sees black.
"...need to go to the hospital..."
She thinks she can hear Festus but she's not sure, everything is moving in slow motion.
She can see flashes of memories in front of her, memories of when she was a little girl, happy and carefree. She sees her younger self running in their backyard, smiling and chasing a butterfly. Soarynn can feel the warm summer breeze on her skin, the grass beneath her bare feet. She watches her younger self roll on the grass, giggling without a care in the world.
Suddenly she stops, she looks up at Soarynn. Neither of them quite knows what to do for a moment before her younger self pushes herself from the ground and runs towards her with a smile on her little face, "You're me!" She says, stopping right in front of Soarynn.
Soarynn swallows and nods, "Yes I am." Her younger self tilts her head, "Why are you here? I don't think you're supposed to be here." She's right, she shouldn't be here and yet here she is.
"Something bad is happening," Soarynn says softly, realizing that this little girl has yet to be subjected to the worst years of her life all by the hands of Coriolanus Snow.
Her younger self frowns, "Well can we fix it? Fix the bad thing?"
Soarynn feels a sad smile tug on her lips at her naive ways of thinking. If only it were that easy to fix. "No," she tells her, "we can't fix it. I'm sorry." She can feel tears in her eyes, "I'm so sorry," she whispers, "so sorry for everything." She wants so badly to protect this little girl, to take her inside and pour her some lemonade and braid her hair.
Her younger self shrugs, "It's okay, whatever you do, it's okay."
Soarynn nods and wipes her tears with the back of her hand, "I should go, I...I have a lot waiting for me when I wake up."
"You should float up," her younger self suggests, "you know how we float in the bathtub?"
Soarynn nods, remembering when she'd fill the bathtub with bubbles and float in the water, imagining she could fly. She can hear a beeping sound, it's from some medical equipment. She has to go.
"I used to float," she says, watching her younger self drift away from her mind.
"Now I just fall down."
꧁ ꧂
Soarynn wakes up in a hospital bed.
It's so bright. She reaches up to shield her eyes and lets out a groan when she feels a strange pain in her stomach. Soarynn looks down at her bump and it's not there. It's not there.
Soarynn feels her bottom lip trembling as she runs her hand over her hospital gown, her stomach smooth as it was before she ever got pregnant. Where is her baby?
She slowly looks up at the foot of her bed and she sees him sitting there, watching her.
Coriolanus.
He's so quiet. There are bags under his eyes. His perfectly styled golden curls are unruly and tangled. The look in his eyes is so hollow.
For a moment neither of them say anything. Words can not convey their grief, their loss. Soarynn likes to think that her baby boy is somewhere safe but she knows that is not the truth. He's not safe in the way she intended at least.
The doctor breaks their silence by knocking and coming into the room, a clipboard in her hand. The woman gives her a sympathetic smile and looks down at Coriolanus, "Why don't you let me talk to your wife for a moment?" Coriolanus silently stands up and leaves the room, not sparing Soarynn a glance.
The doctor closes the door before she sighs, "How are you feeling?"
"Where's my baby?" Soarynn asks, her voice scratchy. The doctor grabs the chair that Coriolanus was sitting in and pulls it up to Soarynn's side before she takes a seat.
"When you were found in your apartment you were lying on the floor, unconscious in a pool of your own blood. The Vickers and the Creeds found you and brought you here where we attempted to save you and your baby. There was...a complication with the pregnancy, undetected until now. We had no choice but to perform an emergency cesarean section to deliver the stillborn child to ensure that you survived."
She survived. Her son did not.
Soarynn is overcome with emotions as she begins to cry, her body racks with her sobs as she grieves the life of her unborn child. "Why...why didn't you save him?" She gasps, looking at the doctor through tears, "You should have saved him and not me." The doctor frowns and shakes her head, gently placing a hand on Soarynn's shoulder, "Mrs. Snow, your life was of more importance. People need you." Soarynn lets out a bitter laugh, "No one needs me."
Her son would have needed her. But he's gone.
"This type of grief is normal, all of this is perfectly normal considering what you've been through," the doctor slowly says, "losing a child is never easy." Soarynn looks around the room, her vision blurry with tears, "Where is he? Where is my baby?"
"Mrs. Snow, it is not suggested that the mother of a deceased newborn sees her ba-"
"I want to see him," Soarynn says, cutting her off. Her voice trembles but she says it, she means it. She gives the doctor a determined look, one she hasn't worn in years. The doctor purses her lips for a moment, "Alright. Would you like your husband to be here to offer you some comfort in your time of grief?"
Soarynn stares at the wall in front of her and shakes her headas she answers, not even hesitating. "It's not what he's made for."
꧁ ꧂
Neither of them says a word as Coriolanus unlocks the doors to their penthouse. Soarynn keeps her head down and rests her hands on her stomach, thinking about the little boy she held in her arms one day ago.
He hadn't been ready, ready to see her, to meet her. He didn't look ready. He was so small, so fragile. The doctor said that he might have been born with a physical deformity if the pregnancy hadn't been fatal. Soarynn wouldn't have cared. She would have loved him with all her heart.
They're both dressed in black. She hears voices as they walk into the penthouse, people are here in the living room. Soarynn rubs her stomach, thinking of the white line that now runs up the middle of her abdomen. The doctor gave her a cream to apply so that the scar would fade completely. Coriolanus will want it gone as soon as possible.
He had only spoken to her once in the hospital after she held their son and they took him away. He'd placed a hand on her head and let out a deep sigh, "What did he look like?" Soarynn had thought for a moment of what to tell her husband who had been as desperate as she was to meet their son. "He looked like a Snow," Soarynn had replied.
That was all they spoke of in regard to their son. Soarynn knew how this would go. Coriolanus would want to move forward as soon as possible. They'd have the funeral and that would be it. This wasn't the first child that the Snow family had lost.
Soarynn feels herself shrinking into her shell as they walk down the hall. All she wants to do is sleep and forget all of this, not talk to people. Coriolanus places his large hand on the small of her back, "Just for a little while," he says as if knowing her aversion to people right now. Soarynn nods, knowing that she doesn't have a choice.
They're greeted by several mournful faces when they finally enter the living room. Her inlaws are here, of course, the Creeds as well. Clemensia is also here along with the Vickers.
"We apologize for the delay," Coriolanus says, his voice distant and hard, "there was a bit of paperwork that needed to be filled out before Soarynn was discharged." He's met with understanding nods, all eyes watching as he leads the two of them to the loveseat in their living room. Soarynn slowly sits down, remembering the doctor advising her to move slowly for the next few weeks.
Mrs. Snow is the first one to speak up, "I'm so sorry my darling."
Soarynn keeps looking down at her lap until Coriolanus nudges her shoulder and she looks up, unable to hide her look of surprise when realizing that Mrs. Snow was talking to her, not her son. Soarynn puts on a small, forced smile, "Thank you."
Festus clears his throat, "So what did the doctor say it was exactly?"
There's an awkward shift in the room but Coriolanus answers his friend, "A chromosome abnormality." Festus widens his eyes slightly before nodding along with his wife. Persephone is pretty, but she's also quite dull in Soarynn's opinion. She's superficial and vapid which makes her perfect for Festus.
"Perhaps it was for the best then," she says softly, giving Festus a knowing look and he nods. Soarynn furrows her eyebrows, "Excuse me?" her voice is sharp, sharper than it's ever been when addressing people.
Persephone swallows and nervously looks around the room but no one meets her eyes, "I mean, clearly your child would have suffered greatly had the pregnancy been successful. He would have been socially hindered in several aspects."
Soarynn doesn't consider herself an angry person but she's downright furious right now. Persephone Creed has some nerve insinuating that her son would have been a social outcast.
She doesn't have to take this, doesn't need this right now. She just lost her son. Soarynn slowly stands up, ignoring the look Coriolanus shoots her. She first walks over the the Vickers who look as uncomfortable as she is right now. Soarynn has no doubt that they were invited out of sheer politeness, especially since they helped save her life. "Thank you for everything," she says gently.
Mrs. Vickers gives her a small smile and reaches out to gently take her hand, "We are truly sorry for your loss, we'll be praying for you and your family." Soarynn nods, she's going to need all the prayers she can get. She pulls her hand away and turns to face the Creeds, those horrible, horrible people.
She can't be mad at Festus. Well, not as much as she'd like to get mad because he did in a way help save her life as well. She focuses in on Persephone who's looking up at her, wide-eyed. Soarynn doesn't hesitate to hold her head up high as she addresses the woman.
"Fuck. You."
She can hear Mrs. Snow gasp but Soarynn pays her no mind, "I'd brush up in my manners if I was you," Soarynn continues, "because it is highly frowned upon to berate someone's dead child one day after their death."
Soarynn doesn't wait for a response before she turns on her heel and storms out of the living room, down the hall, out the front doors, and into the elevator. She manages to hold it in until she gets into their car, "Take me to my father's house please," she whispers, her throat already closing up. The driver gives her a nod along with a pitying look, "Yes ma'am."
And in the backseat of the car on her way to her childhood home, Soarynn finally allows herself to break down.
꧁ ꧂
Her father didn't know what to say when she stumbled onto the front doorstep, her familiar baby bump now gone. Coriolanus hadn't told him. Of course, he didn't tell him.
Soarynn had cried in his arms and for once, was offered genuine comfort. Her father knew all about loss, they both did now.
Once she was done crying she went up to her old room and curled up under the safety of her covers. She'd have to come clean to her father, tell him about Coriolanus and his abusive, controlling nature. She had to get out. She had to get out.
She was deep asleep when she heard male voices. Two voices. One belonged to her father, a man who tried his best to protect her. The other belonged to her husband, the man who was supposed to protect her.
She only caught bits and pieces from their conversation.
"...didn't tell me where she was going..."
"...just seeking out comfort Coriolanus..."
"...try again soon..."
"...didn't even call me when it happened..."
"...back in two days..."
꧁ ꧂
When Soarynn woke up her mouth was dry and her mind was foggy. It was strange to be back in her childhood bedroom, surrounded by all the things that used to bring her comfort. The space was slightly tainted by all the things she and Coriolanus had done in here upon his demand.
A soft knock at the door alerted Soarynn of her father's presence as he slowly opens the door. She can see he's brought tea and for that she's thankful. She probably needs it after all the crying she's been doing as of late. "How're you feeling?" He asks gently, sitting on the edge of her bed Soarynn shrugs, "I don't feel quite like myself anymore." Her father nods, "Well, that's to be expected after what you just went through."
Soarynn bites her inner cheek because she's not talking about the very recent loss of her unborn son. She's talking about every moment she's spent with Coriolanus Snow in her life, controlling her life, dictating her life.
"It's not the miscarriage," she whispers, her voice is hoarse. Her father frowns and places his hand over his, "Then what is it, honey?"
Soarynn can feel it all bubbling to the surface, all these years of mental and sexual angst building up and it all spilled out.
"It's him," she breathes, feeling like a weight has been lifted off her chest, "it's Coriolanus. I...I'm miserable, absolutely miserable with him. I can't go back, I don't want to go back."
Her father shakes his head, "Soarynn he loves you, he...he was so worried about you, he even came to find out where you'd run off to." Soarynn cards her fingers through her hair, "He's a liar. He lies to everyone, manipulates everyone."
Soarynn watches her father's face and she can see him fighting some internal debate on whether or not to believe his daughter.
"He raped me."
She was prepared to take it to the grave but she has to say it once, has to know that she told one person.
It feels good to say out loud, to admit, to acknowledge.
Her father's face morphs from one of concern to one of anger, "He what?" Soarynn stares at her duvet covers as she remembers what Coriolanus did to her all those years ago. She's so far removed from it now, but she knows what he did to her. "I went to his penthouse, and he had these pills and...and he took everything from me," she whispers the last part, tears falling down her face, "and if I go back then he's going to make me have another baby and I can't." Her voice breaks as Soarynn realizes what she'll be subjected to when she returns to the penthouse.
She knows her husband well enough to know what he'll do and say, how he's going to act. She can't do it, she can't. She looks up to find her father still in shock, "I...Soarynn I can't believe you've carried this with you all this time. It's been seven years." Soarynn laughs, it's a crazy, delusional laugh but it feels good to laugh, "Who would've believed me? The quiet, timid girl with no friends? He's a Snow, no one would have believed me."
Even her own father had fallen for Coriolanus and his charms.
"You need to file for divorce," her father says, his voice so steady and determined, "it's domestic abuse, it's...it's unforgivable. We'll go to the courthouse tomorrow and then we can call our lawy-"
"I can't," Soarynn cuts him off, "I can't go through a public divorce. He won't leave me alone, I know he won't. I'm always going to live under his thumb."
Her father swallows, "Then I don't know what to do to help you, and I wish I could Soarynn. But divorce is the only option."
No, it's not, she thinks to herself, but the other option is entirely too selfish.
Soarynn gives him a reassuring smile, comforting him with words she so desperately wishes to hear, "It'll be alright. But promise me that you'll look after Petunia should I consider divorce. I know Coriolanus won't want anything to do with her." Her father sighs but nods, "Of course honey. He actually dropped her off when he came to visit." Soarynn feels a sense of relief wash over her when hearing that.
"Good," she decides, "you two can keep each other company then."
꧁ ꧂
Soarynn lays in the bathtub of her childhood bathroom, staring up at the ceiling.
It's all been done, been written. She feels horrible for leaving. Leaving Petunia and her father, she knows that they'll be okay. They'll forgive her.
She's written letters to those who deserve them, those who showed her an ounce of kindness over these seven years. It's a terribly selfish thing that she's about to do but for once, she deserves to be selfish.
Soarynn takes one more deep breath before sinking down under the warm water. It's like a warm hug. Then slowly, she pushes all the air out of her body, her lungs slowly emptying.
It's not painful. It's quiet. Like her.
She feels so happy. Something she forgot.
Something she's not
But something she can be.
Something she waits for.
Something she's made for.
She's floating now.
She wonders when her father will find her. What people will say about Coriolanus Snow's wife killing herself in the bathtub? He won't care. He won't grieve her or miss her. He'll remarry, have a perfect family with a perfect wife. But when he looks down at her in her casket, dressed in her favorite dress with her hands perfectly folded, what will he think?
Will he think she looks pretty?
꧁ ꧂
Coriolanus, Since the day I met you, I've yearned for an explanation. Why did you do the things you did to me? Why did you pick me? What did I do to deserve that? I suppose I'll never know the truth, you've never been good at telling it. But I'll leave you with this explanation of why I left. I think it's the easiest thing I've ever done. It's the first thing I've ever done for myself. I chose myself. I don't expect you to mourn me, it won't be genuine. I don't expect you to keep my things, my books, my clothes. My father will take them. Petunia as well, I don't think she's ever liked you. I'm sorry about our son, I truly am. I hope you are too. I'm going to see my son. I'm going to see my mother. I'm going to see your sister. I'm sure we'll all agree that I deserved better. - Soarynn

Wake Me Up When It's All Over
Going through Tim's things is a long, arduous process, made longer by the occasional stretch of time in which Bruce has to pause, gather his strength before he can continue his search. He commits to the act like he would any other case, even with his throat thick with emotion and fingers stiff from abusing the punching bags.
What he finds paints quite the picture.
Tim's room has always been slightly messy. While Bruce wouldn't quite call it a pigsty, he has to admit that Tim doesn't really commit to ordering his things as much as Jason might. Maybe that's why when he finds the boxes filled with items from Tim's parents, all neatly organized and carefully separated according to their type, he's a little taken aback. (The Drake's wedding photos, a small collection of baby photos, some small family heirlooms; all put into different boxes with black permanent marker scribbled over the top saying 'To burn'. As if they meant nothing, as if no one would come back to appreciate them.)
He finds Tim's photos, of course. These boxes are nearly enough to make Bruce stop working altogether, albums filled with Jason's smiling face taunting him- Every single one obviously well taken care of, adored as if they were treasured pearls (not like the photos of his birth family, the ones he's willing to part with. Bruce has never been stupid, it's not hard to notice the considerable lack of family photos of Tim with his parents.)
They find the will after three days.
Bruce doesn't want to read it. They haven't notified anyone yet of Tim's demise, worried it would be connected to the rather public death of one Red Robin, but he knows the time will come eventually. All too soon, at that, and while Bruce is always one to prepare ahead of time, he doesn't-
Bruce cards his hands together as he stares dazedly at his third son's will. He hadn't even realized Tim had made one. He was- He'd only been twenty years old. Most twenty year olds never thought to write themselves a will just in case... Maybe Tim had thought it pragmatic, with their volatile nightlife, or because he didn't want to risk Wayne Enterprises falling into the wrong hands. But Bruce had never made himself a will that young. Even a paranoid bastard like himself hadn't even-
To distract himself he scans his eyes over the names written out over the extensive will. He recognizes most names listed out, even though he arches a brow at how much money Tim leaves for Jason, or the grant to be sent to the zoo of Damian's choosing. It's little details like this that remind Bruce that for all Tim's brothers hurt him... he'd still loved them, thought of them even in absolution.
At the end of the will, however, Bruce comes across a name he doesn't recognize. He tries wracking his brain for answers, but he still comes up with nothing. So far most of the superhero community has been notified of Tim's passing, and the civilian friends in Tim's life will likely follow soon enough, maybe just before the public announcement so that they aren't taken off guard.
Nonetheless, Bruce looks into this unknown name, almost religiously, trying to pay respects to yet another son he'd failed to save in time.
---
He finds Daniel Draper on a farm in Scotland, skin sun-kissed even under the dreary skies. It takes a considerable amount of time to find him, due to all the safeguards Bruce ran into along the way. he recognizes the codes and habits from Tim; Tim had been the one to hide this man away as much as possible. It's not hard to figure out why. There's a little boy scurrying around in the chicken pen, maybe not even three years old, giggling as the tinier chicks hobble around his feet.
The man Bruce assumes to be 'Daniel Draper' looks up at him when he's close enough. He can't be much older than Tim, even if he's just a few inches taller.
The man calls out, "You must be Bruce! Tim warned me you might come around one day." He speaks so cheerfully, almost cheekily as he pads over to Bruce, climbing over a wood fence to get closer.
Bruce's mouth is dryer than a desert.
"Tim is dead."
Daniel's face falls in an instant.
In the distance, the little boy snaps his head up.
Bruce knows without seeing that the little boy looks exactly like his dead son.
---
"Did you know he was Red Robin?"
"I met him as Red Robin first, actually."
"He never told me..."
A snort. "What, that you're a grandfather? We couldn't risk it, what with Ra's..."
"Tim was sending you child support checks every month."
"He would have done it every week if I let him, honestly..." Quieter, softer: "He always was a paranoid one."
"...What will you do now?"
A sigh this time. "I'll figure something out. I'm not worried about financial stability right now. Do you want to stay for the night? I'm sure Jackson has plenty of questions for you..."
"Yes, I- I would like that. Thank you."
---
"Is Daddy really dead?" Little Jackson Draper (also known as Jackie Drake), named after two fathers that could've done better for their children but didn't, peers up at Danny with his wide, wide eyes and to this day Danny still hasn't figured out who Jackson inherited it from.
Danny reaches out, marveling all the while at how his hands don't tremble or shake, and brushes some of the errant hair out of Jackson's face.
"Daddy isn't dead..."
Yet.

because i have a lot of headcanons to do with the kiddads given they are npcs that we dont tend to get much information on, especially in season 2, heres a shit load more! a lot of these are sad because these guys make me sad
- Sparrow starts wearing glasses in Middle School a little after they get back from Faerun, Terry Jr. starts wearing glasses when he gets to his 30's, and Grant started wearing glasses when he was in Elementary school
- When Nicholas starts to remember stuff from the Nick timeline, (basically 'becoming' Nicky if you will) scars he'd gotten from stuff in that timeline start showing up on his body, notably one is a burn scar on one of his hands from him spilling acid on it in s1 ep 34
- Lark has very scarred hands from when he was buried in the rubble in Neverwinter, though his mobility stayed relatively the same because of how quickly the wounds were healed, there was a lot of left behind scar tissue
- Sparrow has a scar across his mouth from when he was latched onto Boreanaz by his teeth when the pyramid fell
- Grant takes video games way too seriously and has in fact made his friends cry over it (Most specifically Sparrow and TJ)
- Terry didn't tell any of the other kiddads how he was going to die, just that he knew how
- Terry also knew Grant was going to be the one to kill him, but he never mentioned it, Grant was very confused on why all of a sudden TJ was becoming distant
- And he found out how he was going to die before he met Veronica, so when he met Scary he almost debated not marrying Veronica, not because he thought it would prevent his death but because he wanted to spare Scary of that pain
- Lark is incredibly confused like half the time (with basically anything) and to cover it up he usually acts stoic and tough
- Nicky is the type of person to do anything if someone phrases it like "bet you wont do *insert thing here*" no matter what it is
- Sparrow has a ton of tattoos that Nicky did for him
- Lark is colorblind but hasn't told anyone because he's too embarrassed to admit it
- For Grant and Marco's one year anniversary the kiddads all got them Titanic themed gifts, (Nicky got them sixteen dvd copies of the movie, they dont own a dvd player)
- Terry was Nicky's best man at his wedding, and Nicky was going to be Terry's best man but the betrayal happened before Terry even met Veronica,
- to add onto the angst none of the kiddads attended the wedding because it was after code purple and after they'd decided not to be involved in eachother's personal lives outside of D.A.D.D.I.E.S.
- to make this at least a little funny Veronica just doesn't think Terry has any friends-
- On the topic of weddings, Lark got so drunk at Sparrow's wedding that for his best man speech he just started reciting the Declaration of Independence (he opened the wrong tab on his phone and didnt notice)
- Grant has claustrophobia (from being inside the chimera)
- Lark used to be way better at pretending to be Sparrow but now he lacks too much spirit and gives up way too quickly for it to be convincing to most people
- Terry Jr. is extremely gullible and is usually the one Nicky would prank and trick the most just because literally everything works on him
- Nicky activated the sprinkler system at D.A.D.D.I.E.S. so much they took it out
- Terry used to talk to Jerry the Whale like he was his therapist
- Nicky would take a bunch of polaroids of the other kiddads all the time, he kept a photo album at his desk at D.A.D.D.I.E.S., it still sits there because none of the kiddads had the heart to clean it out
- Terry had beef with Darryl for a while as a teenager, for literally no reason (it was probably because he still had a lot of emotions and didn't no where to put them so he decided to just hate on his friend's dad)

His Story
harry has a story he is finally ready to share
Word count: 13,782
A/N: hi friends! this story I got the idea for in January and it took me forever to finish. it's different from what I usually write so go easy on me. I'd love to hear your feedback. and remember that I love you
_____
Harry Styles - The Rockstar has been loved by all. Not a single person could miss him as he had sold out tours from his days in One Direction to when he went solo. Styles started in small venues and has now built up to stadiums. Styles could be doing stadiums on every tour run, but he always seems to have new surprises up his sleeves. Styles’ biggest reminder is to his fans that he would not be where he was today without them.
And that is why many people continue to love Harry Styles because it is not only about him but the fans around him.
Today’s story is not about the rockstar. No, it’s about the father and husband that he has been for the last twenty years and not a single soul knew about (except his family and close team.)
Today on his twentieth wedding anniversary (a few days after), Styles is here, ready to share a story that no one could ever believe. How he created a family with no hint from the media? Well, we’ll find out together.
At twenty-five, Styles became a father to twins Milan (17) and Siena (17). At twenty-eight, he became a father of four. Another set of twins. Edin (14) and Camden (14). But the most important date to Styles that changed his life is that at twenty-three, he married the love of his life.
The question is, how did Styles hide a marriage and family for so long? Well, he can thank his wife. Everyone knows her name, no need for me to say it. She has not left the news since Harry dropped a wedding photo on his Instagram that had not been used in a few months since his last tour ended three months ago.
Fans thought it was an album announcement, but to their shock, it was a wedding announcement. Styles left a trail of broken hearts, except everyone knew he was off the market, just never with who. Her face is always hidden, and we admire him for that.
He decided to share because he lost a bet with his children. Styles has let me disclose that it included his wife and how much money she would spend if he got her the right kind of mad. His children were adamant she wouldn’t touch a dime, and Harry was sure they’d be thousands short.
His children won, and Harry slept on the couch for the night. Or so he says.
There is not a single image of his children online, and he says it will stay that way until they decide. And well, the Styles children do love secrets just like their father. Styles shared that growing up not involved in that world allowed them to see their father differently. They’d seen him on stage countless times, but no one would ever see the father who stayed up to finish the last-minute science project because someone forgot to mention it or bake different types of cookies because his daughter wanted to enter a bake sale and only reminded them three nights before.
It’s safe to say we know the rockstar and not the father, although few have had the pleasure of having him as both.
The interview is taking place in Styles’ estate. There was a coded security and triple identification check before I was let in. Not that I minded, not one bit. I was about to do the interview of my life.
Exiting my car, I grabbed my leather bag that had seen better days, ensuring my recorder and notepad were inside, and a few different pens were.
As I walked to the door, I tried my best to calm my nerves, I knocked on the door, and to my surprise, Mr. Styles answered. He was dressed in casual (expensive in my eyes) white linen pants with a few paint stains that were not noticeable at first glance. His top was a lovely yellow Bode button-up we saw him wear while filming “Don’t Worry Darling.” Styles’ hair was styled to perfection, and it left me wondering if he did it himself or if his management had him bring in a stylist knowing the article would be privileged one photo, and I was hoping we’d score one with his wife, but alone would work as well.
We’d have to wait and see (unless you scroll to the bottom or flip the page, you’ll see.)
Styles welcomed me, and to my surprise, there was not a single soul around. We heard tinkering in the kitchen as he led me to the living room, stating it was just his manager. I was taking it all in; the house was well taken care of but was lived in if the small dent on the door had any say. It didn’t have an empty feeling. There was a table by the entrance for keys and a fresh vase of hydrangeas blooming as if just picked from the ground. I looked a little closer, and it seemed there was a chip on the top of the vase. I didn’t dare ask but knew that it had a story.
Walking into the living room, it was spacious with lots of room to sit and walk around. The first thing that caught my attention was a large mahogany bookcase that seemed to have been refurbished as part of the wall. There were an endless amount of books. It was organized in a way I didn’t understand. It wasn’t colored, it had to be authors, or by the look of the top row by the year it was published.
On the velvet green couch that was calling for someone to sink into were two cats on a creme blanket. The all-black cat with one white boot was dozing on the blanket as the other orange, and dotted white nose was on the arm gazing at me, sizing me up, I assumed, until it rolled over, no longer finding me of interest.
There was a large dog bed by the bookcase. I assumed they must have been running around. I secretly hoped it would make an appearance.
As Mr. Styles offered me a seat, he settled on the couch with the cats, running a ringed hang over one, and I watched it stretch out, never opening its eyes. I sat in a love seat diagonal to him, and that’s when I caught sight of the most beautiful backyard view with French patio doors. There were flowers in full bloom as well. A rocking chair that seemed to fit two people had knitting supplies next to them, and I could only assume the couple spent lots of time there.
Styles was very welcoming, asking me how I was and if I found the drive okay. He was easy to converse with, as if we were old friends just catching up. I expressed how much I enjoyed his last tour and how creative it had been with the stage stating it was great to see the band together.
He joked, saying it was Sarah Jones’ band even now, stating that Mitch Rowland wouldn’t leave him alone.
We segued into his life and if he was ready to share the story.
Personally, I was excited.
Professionally, I was calm and ready to listen.
Now here is Styles to tell you his story.
Please note that I got to hear it in person while you, the reader, get a written copy. There are some winners in life, and I’m glad to be one of them.
I can’t believe I’m telling the story–
As Styles is speaking, a woman with beautiful hair that rivaled anyone I knew and clothing that looked new yet well-loved adorned her body. (I would come to learn she was wearing a custom Dior. Her husband liked supplying her with the best even if she fought him on it and lost.) She set tea and water on the coffee table scattered with different poem books, many even I hadn’t heard of.
She smiles politely before looking at her husband, “thought you’d both like something to drink. Know you like to talk.”
I see Styles’ gaze soften as she takes him in. Styles reaches for her hand, placing a kiss on her palm before leaning into her hand. “Thank you, my heart.”
She tries to hide her flush, but I see it. It’s as clear as day how in love they are.
Twenty years and it’s like they are the only two people in the world.
“Hello, a pleasure to meet you.” I address her politely.
“You as well.”
“We have it on record you’re Dr. Styles.”
“Correct.” She confirms.
“Is that how you’d like to be addressed?” I ask courteously.
“Mrs. Styles is fine.” “Dr. Styles is good.” They both reply at the same time. They turn to look at each other sharing a look.
Mr. Styles raises his hands, “Mrs. Styles, it is. She’s the boss.”
“Noted, thank you.” I offer.
“Would you like to stay?” He asks his wife.
She smiles, “I’ll be around. Can’t have you get parts of the story wrong.”
“Because you know it perfectly,” Styles teased.
She laughs, and Styles lights up like a Christmas tree at the sweet sound. “I’m the writer, dear.” She leaned in, pressing a kiss to his forehead before he squeezed her hand, letting her walk away.
Right, I'll begin. Our story begins in 2015 after my last show with One Direction. After that show finished, I was set to take a flight out to LA. There was a party my friends wanted me to attend, and I loved a good party. I had some time before boarding and decided I needed a book. Thankfully, there was a small bookshop I noticed, and I had about an hour to kill. I didn't have a large suitcase, only traveling with my duffel.
There was someone with a broken carry-on, a book tag as their identification. But that wasn't what caught my attention. It was her multicolored scarf that looked well with her outfit and not like she was puked on by a kindergartener with markers.
I knew I had to learn more, so I approached her. I felt confident. When I walked toward her, I saw she had a Bukowski book in her hand. She flipped it to the back, reading the summary, and I jumped in.
"That's a good book."
"Is it?"
She doesn't even look up at me, but it doesn't stop me.
"Yes. My friend recommended it to me?"
"Was this friend a man?"
I am getting nervous now, "yes."
"That explains it."
"Explains what?" I asked.
Finally, she looked up at me, and I forgot to breathe. She has the most gorgeous eyes, and they were looking at me, and I wanted to wrap her up and keep her forever.
"What authors have you read?"
"Uhh…Bukowski, Rob Sheffield, Murakami," I listed.
She frowns, "did you notice a problem?"
"No."
"Well, this is a gift for a colleague. He's a reader, and well, we don't get along. I got him for secret Santa and decided to gift him a book he'd hate, but he's too polite to reject in front of others."
"Kind of devious."
"Good."
"What are you getting him?"
"I have just the book."
She walks away, and I can't help but follow.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure, stranger."
"Would you like to go—"
"Going to stop you right there, mister."
"Oh."
She smiles; at least, I think she did. I was too busy mending my heart, trying not to panic.
"I've got to go."
Then she's off to pay for her book, and I lose her in the crowd.
I think that's the end. I'll never see her again.
Instead of trying to find her like a creep, I wallow, grabbing Alaine De Botton's book Essays in Love off the shelf. Walking to the counter, I placed my book, and the woman at the register looked at me hard. And I think she's a fan until she says there was a book I should buy.
Joan Didion's The White Album is placed in front of me.
"Who?"
"A girl with a colorful scarf. Said you had to buy it."
I don't think twice before paying and leaving. I opened the book, and on the dedication page is writing hers, I assumed.
It read: Not the best taste in books, but I can teach you. Know you wanted a date, so here's my number. Give me a call.
I did, right that second.
His wife laughs, "you did not."
Harry turns, pouting at her, "I did."
"You called me a day later."
Harry lets his shoulders drop. "Fine."
I went to my gate and read the book, deciding I needed to give it a chance if I ever thought I could stand a chance.
Well, we didn't stop talking after that.
We went out on a date two days before Christmas. Ice skating. Worst idea, she was good, and I was clumsy. She held my hand while I kept to the side like a child. It got to the point where she let me sit down, and she skated for a while longer, saying they had to get their money's worth.
"Sorry to interrupt," I voice. Mr. Styles just nodded, gesturing for me to go on. "Did she know who you were? The band was huge, like them or not. Your fame was undeniable."
Harry sighed. "She said she didn't. My wife has her doctorate. She's a professor or was for a long time. Her head was always stuck in a book, never time for new music."
I laugh, and he joins me, "she's a fan now. All that matters."
I'd like to say we fell in love that winter. We didn't say it until Spring when the flowers came, and I was set to leave for Dunkirk in May and focused on my album.
Have in mind we spent every day together, much to my liking, and her fake complaining of falling behind on work. Something I'd feel terrible about until she confessed, she got it done to focus more time on me. I whispered I love you, and she let me get on a plane to France, and then I didn't come home until August. I was in Jamaica obsessing over how she did not say it back.
It scared me.
We'd talk like usual, but I was petrified while I was away in Jamaica writing my first album that she'd find someone new. Every song I've ever written is about her since we met, and it continues.
It wasn't until I came back nicely tanned and album complete that she told me she loved me. I can assure you there were lots of tears that night.
In case you didn't catch that—the tears were all from Mr. Styles.
After that moment, everything changed. I could not see myself without her.
I knew if I lost her, I would not be the same. I was sure I'd never recover.
I knew she was it for me.
That she was meant to be my wife.
While she had all these walls up (or so I thought)  keeping me out when in reality, I was so far in, she wouldn't let me leave, which is something I'm forever grateful for.
End of the summer of 2016, we met each other's families. My family went first because I was so excited about sharing her, and I wanted to prolong meeting a family of six—seven, counting my wife.
So I drove us down to Holmes Chapel, and there it was, the house I bought my mother in the town where we grew up in more secluded lots of space for flowers and future homes of cats. My wife had the best poker face, so if she was nervous, I wouldn't know it. It was not until we were well into our relationship that I learned to read her emotions like a book. The slightest nose scrunch and I would know what she was feeling.
In the car, she'd tell me she was nervous. I always spoke of my close relationship with my sister, mum, and stepdad. While I knew very little about her family except that she had two parents, four siblings, and a grandparent who loved her fiercely.
The trip home, to keep it short, was perfect. Everything I never thought would happen. Even more, she charmed them when my sister asked for Instagram and said she didn't use any. Something her family chastised her over for wanting to keep up with her. Then offered her number to my family, saying she'd love to be in touch.
I was sweating, thinking she'd be closed off, but she bloomed right before me. I was ready to get down on one knee in that instant.
She made them love her and laugh, which made me feel over the moon. I think I'm funny, but she has me beat by a long shot. Yes, so that trip solidified my love for her, as well as the deciding factor to one day marry her if that was something she wanted.
It was.
After tackling and meeting my family, it was time to meet my wife. She was a wreck assuring me we didn't have to if I was nervous. She came from such a large family that, although they loved her, made her grow up independent and alone. That's the one thing that hurt me to find out, to know she felt alone in her childhood, having four older siblings. I couldn't imagine my life without my sister, but the same sentiment wasn't felt for her as the youngest.
My wife grew up in Brighton in a lovely Victorian home in Hove Park that is passed down to the eldest child. My wife is the youngest, so we didn't get a free house.
I stifle a laugh as his wife slaps his shoulder softly, causing Styles to laugh and turn to her with a large dimpled smile.
"Excuse my husband. He's forgotten how to speak to others above the age of five."
"Rude," Styles mutters childishly.
Back to the story, she grew up in a large home with many family members. She had a difficult time bringing me home not because I was famous but because no one bothered to ask how she had been doing. Each of her siblings had postponed the meeting, which made this day even more stressful as it had finally arrived.
It was a Sunday afternoon; I had a bottle of wine and flowers in one hand and my wife's clammy hand in the other. Walking into her childhood home, it was easily noticeable what she spoke of. It was still her parent's home, and photos were everywhere, from the bookshelf to the door entrance. Twins mostly, and the occasional sibling photo of five. If you asked her parents, which I did, the answer was that she didn't like pictures.
That was true because they made her feel not included. Because the girl I met loved posing for me no matter how much she blushed. I forced her more times than not because I wanted to look back at times in our life together from the start. Also to show our future children, which we have done.
So I was ticked, but I hid it well. My wife says I have an excellent resting face. Moving on, there are hugs and handshakes. A wide smile on everyone's face saying how glad they are to meet me, asking me how I've been, all while my wife stands quiet by my side.
I'm honestly not sure what to do.
She looks like she wants to run out the door, and I'd follow her in a heartbeat. Instead, I shift the conversation to her, taking her coat and then my own. I focus on her and wait for her to whisper our code word. She doesn't, but I know she was close. We persevere and sit down for lunch. I held her hand the entire time as her family asked us questions about our relationship.
There was one question my wife answered, and her mother said that she should let me answer, saying she had spoken too much already. Which was just a lie. I was ready to shout from the rooftop when I decided no, I'd had enough. So I called our safe word, of course, after giving them a few words of our own. Then we left, and my wife showed me her favorite spots growing up in Brighton.
Mr. and Mrs. Styles grin at each other fondly.
"Are you close to her family now?"
Mr. Styles shrugs, "I doubt they'd read this. Don't like us."
"Harry," Mrs. Styles gasps. "The answer is no. We aren't close. We tried, but it didn't work out. My kids have Nana and Pops, who adore them more than enough."
Family is complicated for everyone, it seems.
We celebrated a year in December. It was her first Christmas with us, and she never missed one after.
"I joked her parents could have us for Thanksgiving." Harry laughs as if it was the best thing ever. "Cause she's English."
Having celebrated a year, I was over the moon and head over heels in love. Honestly, our relationship went through lots of tests because of my job and how much traveling I do. It was hard, but she was my pillar through it all. She was there when the first single was released, cheering me on. Also was there when we shot the music video. She wanted to get up to fly as well, but there was too much paperwork, so I took her skydiving instead.
He laughs nervously, "we can breeze past that."
I nod and gesture for him to go on.
Then the album was released in May, and she was there. She did not fail me for a single moment in my life. I failed her quite a bit, though. We shall get there soon enough. The first show came, and my heart was there in San Francisco. At this point, we had been dating close to two years and had no sightings, so it was smooth sailing, right, nope.
It was November. It was hometown shows, London first, then Manchester. It was then that we got our first pap photos, which was quite impressive. It took a year and eleven months. She was instantly overwhelmed.
When I was touring, she had come to a show; we went out for drinks after, and I held the door open for her face hidden. There was article after article, but we spun it to me being a gentleman holding it open for a stranger. She went back to school, and I kept touring. Checking in and calling as much as I could.
I remember thinking she'd end it. She went home, and I toured. Her calls and texts lessened. I had a few days off before heading to Asia, and I came home to her. She invited me in as I held back tears, thinking I'd been an idiot to show up, giving her the chance to break up with me. I rather her string me along than lose her all together.
Instead, she tackled me with kisses as soon as I sat down, I knew we were okay. Told me how uni was drowning her about wishing she could join me on tour. Gosh, that might have been the best night of my life. We spoke of her worries as well as mine. She was firm about not wanting her name out there and how she was trying to build a career. I vowed to protect her.
And well, I might have also put a ring on it then. I asked the morning after we woke up to the sun; she hated curtains. The sunrise woke her up each morning which I thought was insane, but while on tour, I always kept them open, feeling like I had a piece of her with me if I woke up when the sun did, just like her. Kicked me in the ass, but something I still do when I'm missing her like crazy.
Yes, so on our anniversary we got married. Our close friends and family were able to make it because we were so well loved. We are thankful for a lot of people who chipped in to help. A good friend of ours got ordained for us. My mom lent us her backyard, my sister was my best woman, and her best friend was her maid of honor.
It was the most perfect day.
We honeymooned until she had to return to school, and no, I won't say more. I will say it was bliss, and I'd give anything to relive those times again.
Then in March 2018, I ventured off to tour once more. She would be joining me from Asia to North America. I'm not sure how she did it, but she did. Something about not having to intern that year. The thing is, she's so brilliant I feel like she was in university forever. Except she only had a year left, so she joined. I had time planned out to visit places that would help her thesis and relax her.
We had fights, of course. It was healthy. I'd fight about the dishes, and she'd fight me, telling me it was my turn to wash the towels. Little things. Our worst fight happened when I was in Australia.
Mrs. Styles excuses herself at this time when one of her children calls for her. Perfect timing is what I heard Mr. Styles whisper.
It was two weeks before she was due to join me when everything changed.
I had gone out to celebrate a successful night. I only had one drink, knowing I was due to an early phone date with my wife. Except, something happened, and it put a lot of things into perspective. I was with my friends, all hanging out and phones out when this girl approached me. She was young, probably freshly eighteen, and she was giddy. When her friend pushed her trying to get us closer, she took that as a sign to kiss my lips, but I moved back, her lips landing on my neck instead. I called it a night then and there.
What I didn't realize was how many cameras there were on us. My phone died, and I went to sleep like that with no alarm. By the time I woke up, it was too late. My wife was hurt, rightfully so. She was waiting for me, calling and calling and nothing. A friend texted her the article. I was on the cover with what looked like a girl clinging to me. She didn't believe it.
No one knew I was taken, so they assumed I was having a wild night. But I was–am a married man. I guess I was too tired to think of the consequences. Her sister gave her a call saying she was sorry. That no one deserved to be cheated on. That cracked her a bit, but she was holding hope for my phone call. It didn't come until hours later. I had talked to my manager before I talked to my wife.
I called, and it rang.
Voicemail.
I called five times before she answered.
It was silent on the line.
"Love."
"Truth?"
"Always, my heart."
"Okay."
"That is me, but she brushed my neck. She stumbled into me, and I pushed her off. Nothing else."
She was silent.
"Okay?"
"Okay."
More silence.
"Harry?"
"Yes, my heart."
"I need time."
I felt my heart shatter in two. We never had a fight and did not fix it, especially when I was not there in person.
"No, please," I begged.
"I'm in London. In our home, I get a call from everyone but you."
"Let me fix it, please."
"Then give me time. Time to mend. You missed our date that you planned."
"Sweetheart, I'm sorry. I'll come home." I would do anything at this point. "I love you."
"I know, H."
"Will I see you at Heathrow?" We were flying out together to Asia. I did not want her to do it alone, even if it meant more travel time for me.
"I love you."
And then the call disconnected.
I was a mess. Served excellent writing material, but honestly, I needed her. I called her daily and sent her texts. She answered a few. When the day came to meet me, I wasn't sure if she was coming, and I understood if she decided not to.
My wife surprised me, sitting on her luggage in the private lounge. I ran into her arms and cried. We held each other, assuring each other that we'd be okay. It was a few rocky days, but we made it through. As we have the last twenty years.
While I apologized over and over again, she told me that she wouldn't leave me alone, not when she had promised that she'd stand by his side through the hard times. She might be upset with me, but not enough to stop herself from going and creating new memories together.
That December was special. We were going to celebrate our one year together as husband and wife, but my wife was finishing her Doctorate. The ceremony was significant to her. Everyone in her life had promised to come, including her parents and siblings, but that never concerned her.
The only person she wanted to attend despite everyone going was me, and I almost broke her heart.
Mr. Styles shakes his head, taking a deep breath before continuing with the story.
My wife had to arrive earlier as the graduates had to prepare so her friend picked her up and I promised to meet her there in my reserved seat. I decided I could get a few hours in the studio at home. I know it was foolish of me, but I was so excited for her that I was filled with inspiration. Then a few hours go by, and I see I have plenty of time and get ready. As I am getting ready, I get a call from Mitch that it's packed and I should be parking already.
"It starts at three. I've got time."
"No, H. She said she'd meet you at three after. This starts in less than an hour."
Mr. Styles clears his throat. "See, she was living in Oxford finishing her degree, so I got us a small home for the time being. It was close by, and she begged me we didn't need a home when we could live comfortably in her apartment. We did for some time, but she deserved more. Back to the story."
My eyes widen, and I grab my suit jacket and rush out of the house, starting the car.
"I'll be there soon. Promise."
"It's not me you gotta promise."
I know this. I do.
I say a silent prayer in hopes of making it on time and hoping she wouldn't learn about my foolish mistakes.
Traffic is not awful, but the worst happens as I am close to arriving at her university, and my car breaks down. I have no concern about dealing with that. So instead, I call up a friend who can come meet the tow truck, and I grab my suit jacket and begin to run, hoping for once I am not recognized as I have somewhere important to be.
More than ever, I don't want to fail her.
I'm not sure how I did it, but I see Mitch waiting for him, a classic frown on his head as he shakes his head at me.
"It's full there. No way you make it to your seat unnoticed."
I sigh, "shit."
"Jeff has seats towards the back, or we can stand."
"Let's stand."
Fuck.
I was officially the worst husband, all she wanted today was to be able to see me in my seat, but all she would see was the reserved sign.
I shot her a text and hoped she'd see it before they called her name. Now all I had to do was wait to see her after and hope she'd forgive me for being late for the most important date of her life. I was proud and nervous and shaking from how in awe I was of my wife. She was brilliant and passionate in her learning, allowing her to reach her goals, and I was proud to be by her side witnessing it.
The list of names was long, and I was tired of waiting. I was ready to see her in the full robe with bell-shaped sleeves. The body of the robe was made from scarlet cloth, and the facings down the front of the gown and sleeves were a blue satin.
She had come all excited, ready to show me, stripping off her coat and throwing it on the floor instead of hanging it up like she always did. The bag it came in was dropped on the floor as she quickly assembled the pieces and put them on.
The smile on her face was contagious, and soon tears were running down my face. She looked gorgeous, and I was so proud of her accomplishments. I saw how hard she worked and all the hours she put into her research. The publications and rejections, and she never faltered. All while supporting my dreams and endeavors.
It felt like ages for her name to be called, but when they finally did, I was the first to let out a loud cheer, our friends joining in soon after. She moved across the stage, standing tall, shaking hands, and received her diploma that we'd proudly display in our home until we moved it to her office when we moved into our forever home.
I watched her glide across the stage, graceful and angelic. As she looked out into the crowd, she looked around for only a second before I felt her eyes land on me. There was so much love pouring out of me I knew she could see it. She didn't even quirk an eyebrow at my new position. Instead, she blew a kiss and made her way off the stage.
The next hour was impossibly slow, I had to wait to have her in my arms, but I was counting down the minutes. As soon as all the graduates were released, I rushed outside with Mitch and the rest of our friends who were there supporting my partner, my heart. Strolling too slow to my liking was my wife and her two friends by her side. One by one, they hugged her before moving toward their family, leaving her to walk down towards me with the biggest smile.
"H," she breathed out.
I was overwhelmed seeing her in her regalia. It was clear she was glowing after years of hard work. Her biggest dream had been achieved, and I got to be at her side cheering her on.
I took her in my arms, breathing in her familiar scent, happy to have her in my arms. I am so proud. I'm pleased to be here supporting her as she has done for me countless times.
"You're an idiot, but you're mine," she tells me as she presses a kiss on my cheek.
"You're not mad," I gasp.
She shakes her head, a giant smile on her face. "You'll make it up to me. I already know."
I hug her tight, "always, forever."
"Let's go get some photos and then eat. I'm starving," she tells me after greeting all their friends and linking her arm with all their friends falling behind.
"Anything the Doctor wants, the Doctor gets."
"The following year was nothing but bliss. I was working on the next album, and my wife was working as a professor. It seemed that I started writing Fine Line as soon as my first album was finished. We were settled comfortably in life, having a daily routine where she cooked us breakfast, we texted at lunch, and I had dinner prepared when she walked through the doors." Mr. Styles sighed, lost in thought. "Every moment with her is unforgettable."
2019 had been rushing by, and I was eager to release the album. My wife helped me choose the single, one of her favorite songs. The music video was fun to shoot, and I was glad I was able to convince her to join me in the video. December has become a big month for us, and it seemed fitting that I wanted the next album in that month.
On December 13, my second album would be released, and it was all planned out perfectly. That's when life hits you with the unexpected. A few days before "Lights Out" was set to be released, while fans were finding "Do you know who you are" murals, I was sitting against the bathtub holding my wife's hand as we waited for the timer to ring that would let us check the five pregnancy tests she had taken to see if she was pregnant.
To see if we were going to become parents.
I didn't see it coming, and neither did my wife. She had felt sick and thought it was just a common cold. I was quick to look after her making her tea and my mum's famous chicken soup she loved. Except as soon as she took a single bite, it had her rushing into the restroom as she puked into the toilet. I held her hair back, telling her it'd be okay. When I rushed to the kitchen to get her sparkling water to settle her stomach, she leaned against the bathtub pregnancy test on her lap.
I stop right in front of her, taking in the small tests that have the power to change our life.
"Do you–"
She shrugs, "I haven't made you make a chocolate visit to the store yet."
"Do you want to do them?"
She nods, "I think we should."
I told her to take all five, so we could be sure. Those ten minutes were the longest of my life. Not a word was said, not because we were upset but because we were processing it. There was so much coming our way that starting a family was not in the plans so soon.
After my alarm rang, we both got up quietly. I stayed a few steps behind her, letting her have the first look. I was too nervous to see the results because, as busy as we were, I wouldn't be able to hide my disappointment if we weren't pregnant.
That October, when my single was released for my second album, I was at the clinic for our first ultrasound. I heard our child's heartbeat and cried because our family was growing. I cried because my wife gave me the best gift I could ever receive. Our lives were changing, and I was ready.
It was in November when everything changed. She was three months pregnant, and we were going to another appointment. I ensured she always had enough water and was taking her vitamins. She pouted when her jeans stopped fitting, claiming they ruined the sense of style she had adopted. She transitioned to wearing oversized hoodies and my new favorite dresses at all times.
"You know, I think this baby is growing too fast," she tells me as we wait for her name to be called.
I laugh, looking down at her hands and rubbing her stomach gently. "Why is that?"
"I'm huge," she exclaims quietly to me. "They say you shouldn't pop until around your fifth month. I'm at four."
I can sense her worry and kiss her forehead. "Every pregnancy is different, my heart. You know that."
She grumbles under her breath, and I know I said the wrong thing. "Would it make you feel better if we asked the Doctor?"
"Yes."
"Then we will."
Soon we were called back, and I helped her change into the hospital gown and then settled the blanket over her as they waited for the doctor to come in. Not long after, Dr. Strand comes in with a faint smile and a clipboard in hand.
"Hello, parents, how are you doing?"
After the initial questions, the ultrasound begins, and just like the first time, I can't help but tear up. That's our baby we're hearing and seeing. That's the baby my partner and I created, and she is nurturing and growing for us.
"Well…"
"What?" I asked, panicked.
"It explains why you feel like you're growing quickly."
I'm confused but let Dr. Strand continue. She moves around a bit before pointing toward the screen.
"There are your babies. They're kicking." Dr. Strand tells us.
I look in awe, then she moves her hand to another blob. "This is baby B, who was hiding behind baby A."
"Two babies," I breathe out.
The smile on my wife's face is enormous. It's as if she knew her mother's intuition had already started working.
"A and B. Next visit, we can check genders if you wish." She waits for a response, but we're taking a moment to let it sink in that we're having two children and not one.
My wife has tears streaming down her face, and I know my face mirrors the same. I take her hand in mind pressing kiss after kiss.
"Our babies," she whispers.
"Ours," I responded.
"We don't want to know. We'll wait. That okay, H?" She responds for us.
I nod because it doesn’t matter. I love them so much, and I know I'll love them even more, when I finally get to hold them in a few months.
We didn’t immediately tell our families. Maybe it was nerves but also wanting to keep it ours for a moment longer. There were only so many times my wife could pull off the lazy look before our friends and family got suspicious.
Before the album dropped in December and we began to prepare for Night Only, I had decided it was time. My wife encouraged me to do it sooner, but I wanted to hold off because I knew it would not be an easy conversation. Jeff, of course, didn’t take the news well. We had just announced Love on Tour Europe and North America. Touring would become more challenging but not impossible, is what he told me.
Except I wanted to push back the tour a bit as she was due the month tour started. There was nothing more I wanted than to be by her side for the first few months. It was a lot of back and forth, but I stayed firm on my answer. I was meant to be by my family’s side.
December 13th was a perfect day. I had my wife in the audience of a sold-out show. My idol Stevie Nicks came out to sing a song with me. There was nothing better than the album release. Well, almost, telling my family about the pregnancy was next because she was showing now. It meant everyone had to be more protective and vigilant, making sure to never get a camera in a shot that had the potential of being released. My mum cried tears when finding out it was twins, my sister claimed dibs on being the best aunt ever (there was no doubt she would be), and my friends told me it was only a matter of time.
A month before my babies were born, the tour postponement was announced. It was chaos, but I was in bliss, hiding away at home with my pregnant wife awaiting our children’s arrival. I knew soon enough I’d have to face it, but now I was happy to be at home.
Mr. Styles laughs as he thinks of the next part of his story.
My wife comes from a family of twins. She’s not a twin and the only one to have twins. Perfect she is. I’m fortunate. She never lets me forget it either.
Mr. Styles pauses to have some coffee that his wife made for him. He expressed how the drink was perfect when she made it, and then he tried to recreate the cup when she wasn’t there, which turned out awful.
“I use a secret ingredient,” she shares, squeezing her husband’s hand.
Mrs. Styles returned to join us to continue the story by Mr. Styles’ side.
“The twins were the reason you postponed tour, right?”
“Yes, and I got a lot of heat from it.”
“From the fans?”
He nods, “and my management. Think the only support I got was from my wife.”
She laughs, “it was unexpected, but twins alone, I’m not sure I would have survived.”
“My wife comes from a family of twins, and she’s the only one who doesn’t have one, so you can imagine our surprise when we find out we’re expecting two.”
“A joy you can’t describe, I imagine.”
“Right, again.”
As the due date got closer and closer, I got more worried and anxious. Making sure she was always eating and resting. Never doing anything she wasn’t supposed to. Never lifting a finger. It was nice being able to care for her, but my wife was over it. She hated that I did everything for her, from helping her shower to sitting on the couch.
The date loomed close, and then it passed. No signs of our babies coming. We feared them coming too soon, but it seemed they loved being with their mum a bit too much. Dr. Strand assured us it was customary to give it a few days. It was three a.m., and I had just fallen asleep after my wife made me stay up to watch the Harry Potter movies again. As much as I love them, I needed a break. She assured me she’d be fine until I woke up to her yelling for me from our bathroom. She held her stomach with a smile as she stared down at the puddle on the floor.
“They’re ready.”
I felt my heart speed up and moved to grab her, wanting her to step away from the liquid in fear of her slipping. I kissed her, and it was perfect. We were officially becoming a family of four. It would no longer just be us.
I was ready.
“Let’s go have our babies, my heart. We waited long enough.”
After a long eight hours, at eleven a.m. Milan and Siena were born only two minutes apart, giving no time to recover, both eager to come into the world. No moment in my life could be rivaled by seeing our children placed in my wife’s arms. To see her stare at our children full of love knowing she was already the best mother. I knew we were in for the best adventure of our life.
We were full of nerves when we were allowed to go home a few days later, but I knew we’d be just fine. The guests were endless. My mum spent time with us to my wife’s and I joy as she reminded us to sleep and eat because otherwise, we’d spend every moment just staring at our babies that were already beginning to change.
Once Milan and Siena turned six months old, it was time to return to work. Not in the studio but for my second film, Don’t Worry Darling with Florence Pugh, directed by Olivia Wilde. At this point, we were naturals at changing diapers and getting them to sleep. It was not easy, but together it was possible. Taking them to Los Angeles to film for a few months would be stressful because the paparazzi were more ruthless. Thankfully, Mitch and Sarah were here, and my wife knew she had people in her corner that would help whenever she called. I remember she surprised me on set one day, left the twins with Jeff and his then fiancé, now wife Glenne, and I had the best time with her in my trailer.
Mrs. Styles slaps his arm, making Mr. Styles burst out laughing, “it’s not like I could show her off like I wanted to. So I hid her for the day.”
She rolls her eyes, looking at me, “I was not hidden. Those NDA’s were solid. I met the director and his co-star Florence Pugh.”
“Who you’re good friends with now,” I state.
“All thanks to me,” Mr. Styles says proudly.
“Yes, all thanks to him. I also met Chris Pine. I could have talked with him for hours,” she confesses.
“Hey, now!” Mr. Styles acted offended. We all know it’s an act.
“While Harry was off filming and Chris wasn’t needed, we were found at catering exchanging books he had in his trailer and that I had brought with me.” She gushes. It's apparent books are a big passion of hers.
“They formed a book club.”
Mrs. Styles leaned in close, poking his cheek. “Don’t act jealous. You joined the club, as did Gemma.”
“Chan,” Mr. Styles added. “Sorry, Gems, my sister.”
“Shall we continue?” I asked.
Having her on set was a joy because she saw me work on a new job, something she’d never seen me do before. It was a new world for us, but we managed well. I was grateful she allowed me to work and followed me to Los Angeles because her career was just as important to me. The thing is, she had ample opportunities in Los Angeles as well. Our schedules were busy, but our children always came first. Something we both remembered during every commitment we signed up on.
Filming was going to happen through the new year, and we were okay with that. New Year to us could happen anywhere as long as we were together. We had friends here in the city who always welcomed us with open arms, except we only reached out to a select few that knew about our kids. It’s a secret we wanted to keep for a long time, and so far, we are managing it well.
In January, I officiated my best friend and manager's wedding, and it was a family affair. Sadly the twins were not in attendance, but they were in the best hands with my mum and sister. It was a fun night. Mum and dad got the day off. I woke up to a lovely view–of my balcony overlooking the ocean. The newlyweds did pick a stunning location.
I continued working on the film after. Long days too long nights with the twins. There were many challenges where we’d want to go out on a stroll together but feared being seen, so she’d take them on her own. It was a Saturday, and I was convinced no one would spot us. There was a farmer’s market we were strolling through, the twins napping, not a care in the world about the chatter going around them. My wife stopped at every stall, sampling marmalade and fresh fruit and even buying handmade baby clothes with little bees and, as she said, “were too cute to resist.” It was when she left me with the pram that someone recognized me. Her attention is caught by a sample of cherries, her weakness. I smiled at the person who spotted me, trying to make myself look unapproachable but to no avail.
“Hi Harry,” the young fan greeted. They had a tight hold of their tote bag, obviously nervous but not as nervous as I was at the moment.
“Hello, how are you?” I shifted my feet, moving an inch away from the sleeping bubs.
“Good. I just wanted to tell you that, uh,” the fan looked away, obviously overwhelmed.
“You alright?” I asked, knowing I’ve had similar experiences and still do when I meet one of my idols.
“Yeah, uh. Good. I’ve just looked up to you for a long time. I’m glad you’re taking time for yourself.”
I’m not sure what to say, I knew the fan reaction wasn’t positive, but this was kind. I felt good for putting my family first. Before I could reply, my wife returned at a slower pace, sunglasses and hat on her head disguising her face.
“Thank you for watching the pram.” My wife thanks me as if I’m just another kind stranger she found on the street, and I know she saw me speaking with the fan. I’m thankful for her quick thinking.
“Glad I could help, precious babies you have,” I tell her with a small smile.
“My sister needed a day off, and I’m happy to give it to her.” She tells him. “Good day.” She offers one last smile to me and the waiting fan.
As I finish signing the fan’s journal, and sigh with relief when she doesn’t ask for a photo. I keep walking, trying to make it seem like I’m interested in what the vendors offer, but I’m dying to go back to my wife, who I know is waiting in the car a few streets away.
When I got back to the car, my wife had the car on and was listening to my album, Milan and Siena, now wide awake, both with a bottle my wife was holding up for them.
“This is the life, huh?” She joked.
Except, it was. The life we are building together is the life I have always wanted since the moment she walked into my life.
After wrapping in February, we headed home for a month's break. March was eventful in our home as Siena took her first steps, and Milan said his first word, “mum,” to no one’s surprise but my own. I was rooting for that first word to be “dad,” but it seemed my wife won him over. A few days after Milan, Siena began tom, but she didn’t say mum or dad. No, our little one said milk. That sounded more like “ilk,” but we understood. Milan started walking as well; wanting to follow his sister around was much easier on two feet than crawling.
I began filming My Policeman in April. My family was thrilled we were home. There was always someone dropping by to visit my wife with a cooked meal or wanting to cuddle the twins. I felt relaxed going to work, knowing constant people were checking in on her. Not that she needed it, I know she liked being home with them, but it could get overwhelming with two babies to look after. My wife made it look easy. She was a true superhero.
During the start of filming, Milan and Siena celebrated a significant milestone, turning one year old. It was a small party with our family coming down and showering them with presents. Gemma brought them each a cake of their own. That they happily smashed into; the photos are a favorite of mine to look back on; my wife quickly had them framed up around the house. Being part of these milestones is important, and I’m glad to be there for each one.
Thankfully, My Policeman took around two and half months to film, and it was right at home. It was quicker than I anticipated, but I enjoyed getting to know the cast, especially getting to work closely with Emma and David.
“Did you bring your wife to set again?” I pause him to ask.
Mr. Styles smirks, looking at his wife before turning back to face me again. “She asked me to take her because she wanted to meet Emma. She was a big fan of The Crown, especially of Emma.
“He’s not wrong. Emma is lovely.” She adds in, clearly embarrassed by how she shoves him lightly. His giggles die down as he presses a kiss on her cheek.
I finally finished filming, and my team was excited because it meant I would be back on the road again. I was excited; the twins were old enough to travel more easily. They loved being on a plane. We learned either they were looking out the window or sleeping peacefully.
It was time for Love on Tour. Everyone had waited long enough, and as much as I love my family, my wife knew I was buzzing to be on stage again. As much as my wife loved her job as a professor, she knew it was time for a change. She began to write her book as well as write more journal articles.
“Can you read this over, H?”
I dry my hands on the kitchen towel, taking a seat next to her, trying to see what she needs me to read, knowing fully well she has a long list of colleagues and friends she can shoot this to in a quick email.
“I wasn’t alive in 1868, so I don’t know how much help I could give you.”
“Dork,” she mutters as she pushes the laptop over, giving me a proper look for the article she’s written about Frederick Bacon Barwell. Everything makes sense. All I input is erasing her last period and then adding it back because I know it will get her to laugh, and it does.
“Right, that means you’d have to include me as partial editor.”
“Who should I send the check out to for all your hard work?” She sasses back.
“My wife handles that. I’ll put you in contact.”
“Dork,” she repeats once again.
“And all yours.”
Love on Tour 2021 kicks off in Vegas, and it’s a whirlwind. It’s a weird schedule we settled on, but it works. We travel on the tour bus and private plane when absolutely necessary. The twins run around as they please between my dressing room to Mitch and Sarah’s, where their small bubba is still on the younger side compared to the one-year-old twins. The best of cousins already, as they loved sharing their toys with him. It’s a big reason we hired Melinda, a nanny that helped with the children, because my wife could handle two but three well. That was just asking for too much.
The kids liked being in the audience with their giant headphones watching me on stage, not that we did it often. I still thought they were too small and curious for their own good to be out there long. As long as I knew they were watching and hearing me backstage, it was all okay.
On days off or travel days, I made sure to give my wife the afternoon to herself to get work done or take a more extended bath than she usually would. She’s doing so much for me, and I wanted to do the same. She got a lot of work done as the months followed, and as the tour was coming to a close, she was just as close to finishing her book that would soon be sent to her editor and published soon after the revisions. It was a long process, but I was proud, and she knew that.
Winding down from the tour, we celebrated four years of marriage in December. We took a weekend trip away from the twins to celebrate. I took her to Italy, as it’s one of the first places we traveled to when we first got together. It was a magical month, as December usually is.
The New Year went by quickly, the twins having the most fun getting to dress up and make new year wishes with us. All I could ask for was happiness and health for my family. It’s a wish that stays constant in my life. For my birthday that year, I got the best surprise.
My wife had planned a surprise party at home with our close friends and family. The twins had no idea what we were celebrating, but they were over the moon when they got to smash the cake in my face. When everyone had gone home, and Siena and Milan were sleeping peacefully in bed, my wife decided to give me my present. I had waited all day for it, knowing she always manages to surprise me each year, and this year she might have topped it.
Inside a box that I tried my best not to rush opening, making my wife laugh as she could tell how nervous I was, and it wasn’t until I took off the lid that I saw three pregnancy tests with a single sonogram inside.
“My heart, this isn’t funny,” I whispered, but I knew it wasn’t a joke. I knew what I was looking at and was just in disbelief.
“It’s real, H. I’m pregnant.” She promised me.
“Our baby is in there?” I ask, resting my hand on her stomach. The tears are now falling quickly, and I’m not bothered to wipe them away.
“Yeah, think we’ll get another pair?” She asks me.
“I hope so,” I answered honestly, and I did. We struggled a lot with twins, but we are a team, and we could do anything together.
We did not share the news with our family for a few months, wanting to be in the clear when we announced it. My wife and I got to enjoy the first months to our enjoyment and not having to discuss the morning sickness she was going through. It was the day before Mother’s Day, and my wife had an appointment where we’d get to see how the baby or babies were doing. My wife was positive we were having twins again, but I wasn’t sure.
How lucky could we be?
And, as always, my wife was right. Dr. Strand showed us two heartbeats and two blurred beans in the ultrasound. My wife assured me that was the best Mother’s Day gift she could have received. It was the best present for me as well. It also meant we’d have even more spoiling to do when tomorrow is her special day.
Time moved as quickly as it felt because soon it was April, and I was releasing a new single for my new album Harry’s House. It’s funny because many fans listened to the lyrics and guessed I might have a secret family, but they all shut each other down quickly. Leaving things up for interpretation is always much more fun. We were in for a busy time as I would now be touring in Europe throughout my wife’s pregnancy, and there were people we had to tell, but we started with the most important. Milan and Siena.
We sat Milan and Siena down to tell them the news.
“Mummy and Daddy have something they want to share,” I told Siena and Milan.
Siena and Milan stared at each other nervously, bouncing in their seats. They could tell how nervous we were or how nervous I was. They never expressed wanting more siblings when they had each other.
“Mummy’s pregnant,” I told them as my wife placed her hands over her belly, her shirt lifted so our children could see the bump starting to bulge out.
“Baby?” Milan asked.
“That’s right, sweetie.” My wife smiled at him, “there are two babies.”
Siena held up two fingers. “I’m two.”
I chuckled, “that you are. Now two babies are growing in your mum’s tummy just like when she had you.”
They lose their attention soon after that when Teddy comes to lay in their lap. My wife and I turn to stare at each other and just laugh. It couldn’t have gone any better.
April rolled in, beginning a new era for me professionally. I was releasing the first single for my third album. There was a tiny hint to my family, but it seemed no one thought anything more of it. I was thankful. Even better, we celebrated the twins’ second birthday, which was an ever bigger affair than the first. The presents doubled, and the cakes only got bigger.
It was becoming one of our best years, but there were still many logistics to figure out with my wife being pregnant and the Europe tour ending close to her due date where she would no longer be able to travel with me. My wife was calm about all this while I was close to losing my head. I loved having her on tour, but it wouldn’t be possible past July. I didn’t want to leave her alone, pregnant and with our rambunctious toddlers. That’s when I realized just how much my wife was loved because my mum insisted she’d move in for the time being while I was away, and everyone else promised to swing by, allowing her time to herself but also for her not to be stressed out.
Harry’s House was written for my wife, not that all my other albums were not. This one held more of her story that I allowed myself to write and share with her. Matilda is a song we both got attached to because it speaks of all she went through, something I would never understand but to show her that I listened and that I was there for her. I was thankful she allowed me to share my heart about something so personal with the world. Especially seeing how everyone reacted to the song. I knew she was proud of me, but I was prouder of her for continuing to choose me every day.
I began in Glasgow at Ibrox Stadium to kick off my return to Europe. A sold-out stadium of over 50,000 people came to see me. It was surreal. It’s something the team pushed, saying we were ready, that I was ready. The nerves I got before on stage were like never before. My wife was there by my side, and Milan and Siena were with my mum, whom we’d be seeing in Manchester in a few days for my home show. Walking out that day, I was proud because I’d accomplished so much, and this was something else to add to the list, but I knew nothing would top the fantastic family I had created.
My wife and I say goodbye in Sweden as she flies home with Glenne and my sister to ensure she arrives safely. She wanted to go by train, but that was a big no for me. I prefer her to get home quickly in a few hours. While she prepared for the arrival of our second set of twins, I was finishing off a tour. I was enjoying every moment, but as soon as I got off that stage, I was on the phone checking in with her wanting to hear about how annoying they were today because she had to pee so much. She told me all about how the twins put on a talent show for her, and she recorded it so I could see it. Every day was a countdown until I could be home again.
After that final show to end the Europe leg, I was on the first flight home to my wife and my kids. I arrived in the early hours of the day. To my surprise, they were all cuddled in our king-size bed that I fought my wife on, stating it was too much space, but now I could see it was enough as Siena and Milan took up two-thirds of the bed while my wife slept on her side her pregnancy pillow at her side, the only thing that allows her to sleep.
My beautiful family and soon to add two more. Little did I know that a day after I arrived, the twins would decide to grace us with their presence. It was dinner time. We all finished eating when Siena shouted, “Mummy, you spilled water.” My wife standing with no cup in her hand or around her, looked down to see the floor wet and knew that her water had broken.
“Oh my.” My wife braced herself against the table as she felt a contraction hit her. I hurried to her side, doing my best to have her follow my breathing just like the birthing classes taught us. “Call your sister.”
“On it,” I shouted. “Kids, Auntie Gemma is coming. Mummy and I have to go now.”
It all seemed to be happening so fast, but twelve hours later, Edin and Camden Styles were welcomed into the family. Gemma brought them along, eager to be reunited as a family. I helped them up one by one on the bed as my wife held Edin and Camden like a pro from the practice she got from Siena and Milan. Siena seemed amazed at the small wrapped babies, while Milan only wanted cuddles from his mother, not a care for his younger siblings. A perfect day indeed.
2022 into 2023 was my longest year. I did Harry’s House residency starting in Canada in August and not ending until March. It was a lot. There was lots of joy, but it was also hard to explain to the kids when they’d be at home again to see their Nana and her cats. Edin and Camden were doing excellent; my wife worried about traveling with them so young. My wife didn’t join me until my New York residency began because she wanted them to be a little bigger and stronger and get the doctor’s clearance. When I saw them again, I felt like they all got bigger. Siena was not taller than Milan, and Camden had stretched out. Edin has now grown more hair and was beginning to resemble mine.
My wife was a true superhero. She looked amazing as if she’d been doing this all her life. Once we were alone that first night, she confessed she was tired. That she didn’t want to do it without me. I appreciated her honesty, and with the help of everyone around us, we made it work. To this day, I know we could have conquered the world together, but we didn’t have to.
After the longest year, I decided to take a break. It’s one that I owe to my family. I wanted to give them stability and the chance to get to know the city they call home and see family we’d been far away from. While I worked on small projects, my wife got back into work, having postponed a lot due to our children. She’d constantly work on research articles when she had the time, but now I was giving her the opportunity to go back to her career just as she had given me.
I was the stay-at-home dad. Spent all day with our children was excellent, and as much as I knew they loved me, all our kids adored her. They swore a kiss from her would fix all their problems. And they would. A kiss always fixed all of mine. We grew together as a family, building a routine, planting in the garden, and dancing in the kitchen. Our children only made us fall in love even more.
Life went on, children grew, I wrote and released music, my wife furthered her research, and before we knew it, our tenth wedding anniversary was upon us.
“You renewed vows?” I was surprised.
Mr. Styles chuckles, “we did. Thought it should be a whole family affair now that we’re a family affair of six and would not be adding more.”
“When did you decide you wouldn’t have more children?”
Mrs. Styles sighed, “think it was more me. I liked that they were in pairs. No matter what, they’d always have someone to rely on for everything in life.”
“Also, her favorite number is six,” Mr. Styles chimed in. “We thought it was a sign.”
Our vow renewal was a private affair; it was us, our kids, my family, and close friends. There were less than twenty of us. If we want to be specific, it happened in Italy, the Amalfi Coast. The kids dressed up, all wanting to dress with my wife because she had the surprise dress, and well, my suit was nice but nothing compared to her. Edin, five at the time, walked with Milan (7). Camden (5) and Siena (7) walked together. We trusted the older siblings to walk the young ones because they were known to get distracted and wonder if they didn’t have one of their siblings at their side. I can proudly say I cried when they all walked down the aisle right into my arms. They stood by my side as we waited for my wife and their mother to make her entrance, and what an entrance it was.
As my wife made it down to us, her family, I had tears streaming down my face because I knew how lucky I was to have her in my life. That the life we had created was magical and perfect. Everything we ever dreamed of, and I’m glad we could keep it ours. We partied all night–well until the kids passed out at eight, and we followed soon after. We know we could have had someone take them for the night, but it was perfect because we were together.
Now life was not as easy as I described it. Well, at least I didn’t make it that easy. It seemed that no matter what I did, I was always in some new article or making recent headlines. The rumors were getting to me, and I had enough, and I told my wife as much.
I found her sitting on the couch watching the telly and tossed a few magazines on our coffee table that she didn’t even bat an eye at.
“Love?”
Ignored.
“Baby?”
One again ignored.
“My heart?”
That is when I noticed she was hiding her face in the blanket, laughing to see how long I’d realize. I grumbled how ridiculous she was, but the smile on my face said otherwise.
“There’s more headlines.”
She shrugged and laughed them off.
“What if they’re true?” I asked.
She looked at me, all joy wiped away from her way, “you would be wearing that ring right there.” She pointed to the wedding ring I wore proudly, never taking it off and fans not thinking more of it.
I let all my emotions go and cried on the couch. All these emotions weighed me down, and I wanted it to end. I just wanted to enjoy performing and coming home to my family without talking about who I’m seen with or lack of.
“I hate them. I do,” I whispered, my head in her lap as she brushed her hand through my growing curls.
“It’s why you protect our kids and me,” she reminded me.
“With my life.”
Stadiums were a fun part of my life. My wife joined me, and so did the kids. It was a wonderful summer seeing all these fantastic venues I only ever dreamed of doing on my own. We built a scrapbook of the children at all the arenas and stadiums they’ve been to because we want them to look back at this. To see that they had a large part in my career journey. I always put them first and will continue to do so for the rest of my life.
As I watched my four children get older, I grew more protective and nervous. I was definitely the stricter parent, if you could believe that. My wife had that special relationship with them that if something ever happened, they’d go to her first.
“Mum’s a doctor, dad, and you sing on stage.” Siena had told him when he asked her one day.
I sighed, knowing they weren’t wrong. They usually weren’t.
All children make mistakes, and they’ve gone through their fair share. Now I won’t share any because they are my children, which would invade their privacy. I will tell you now that my oldest are seventeen and off to uni. My youngest are fourteen and are staying home with us for a few more years. The one thing I’ve always asked of my children was to be themselves and vulnerable. That we’d always be there, even more so as they got older. The reminder that they’d never be alone.
“My wife is heartbroken that Milan and Siena are leaving us.” Mr. Styles confesses with a hidden smile.
His wife elbows him lightly in the stomach, causing him to jump and shuffle closer to her instead of away. He really gravitates towards her. “You cried when they told you they were leaving.
Mr. Styles mocks offense, “she’s not wrong.”
I laugh, enjoying the banter happening in front of me. Mr. Styles focuses his attention back on the story.
The pride and joys of my life are my four children. Each one is different and forever teaches me more about life, and I thought I had learned it all. Milan has taught me to listen and never rush someone if they aren’t ready. Siena taught me that I didn’t need to have all the answers as long as I showed them support. Edin showed me the importance of always showing up. Camden proved to me that although I wasn’t ready to be a dad, it was the best decision I ever made. These are my life lessons, and I know they’ll only continue to teach me more.
Ultimately, I’m proud. There is a lot of love and trust. It’s something we taught them from a young age because all though we were keeping the biggest secret, we wanted them to know the importance of telling the truth. Each of them is independent, saying they want to take after my wife, who stands tall on her own, but with her family at her side, only shines brighter.
“Now we’ve caught up to the original timeline, so to say.” Mr. Styles shrugs as if what he just spoke about for the last hour won’t shake the entire world. “I’m in love, and I couldn’t be happier.” He giggles, holding up his wife’s hand proudly.
I can’t hold back my laugh because it’s a declaration many people make when first going public with a relationship. Mr. Styles statement is true. His happiness radiates off of him. I haven’t stopped smiling since I was welcomed into his home.
“Please know this will be the last I speak of my family,” Mr. Styles states firmly.
Fair.
“World’s best-hidden secret,” I tell him honestly.
“And I wouldn’t change it for the world,” he vows. “Also, if you had my wife as a professor, specifically class of 2017 when she was a TA. Thank you for keeping our secret.” Mr. Styles laughs as he shares that small bit of information while his wife hides her face in his shoulder.
I sit back in shock. “People knew?”
Styles shakes his head, “like five people who loved visiting her office hours.”
Mrs. Styles laughs, lost in the memory her husband brought up. “Still speak with a few of them. One is an orthopedic doctor, another a neurosurgeon. Another is a best-selling author.”
It’s wonderful to hear the impact she had.
“What’s your career like?” I couldn’t help but ask.
She smiles, grateful, “this isn’t about me.”
Mr. Styles grins, kissing her cheek. “My wife is brilliant. She’s got so many degrees under her belt as well as a published book. Doctor of Arts. She works with paintings. Discovered an old one and got to write all about it since it was her specialty.”
“Tell them,” Styles encourages. “This new job has us traveling on her part for a few weeks, and the kids enjoy it. I do too.”
Mrs. Styles sits there trying to hide her flushed face, “my husband is very proud, but I’m retired.”
“Lies, she works—” A hand flies to cover his mouth.
“Don’t need people flooding my workplace.”
I chuckle, “well, it’s wonderful to hear about your work. Art is valuable in both of your lives, from music to paintings.”
“Thank you.” She answered graciously, knowing I was eager to pry some more, and her husband was close to doing so.
“Anything else you want to share, Mr. Styles?” I ask, having wrapped up the last of my questions.
Mr. Styles shrugs, “no, everything else will stay mine.”
“Very well.”
We all stand up from the couch as they lead me to the door.
“Dad! Mum!” Someone yelled from the top of the stairs.
“So close,” Mr. Styles mutters to his wife.
“Walking our friend out the door.”
“Can we meet them?” A soft voice asks.
I spot a head of curls pop from the side of the stairs, and I see that Mrs. Styles approaches them.
“Mum, she interviewed all the Bake-off contestants this season.”
I’m biting back a laugh because, of course, they’re fans of a well-loved show by all. Who knew that would have put me on the children's radar?
Mrs. Styles stares at her husband, saying the decision is in his hands.
He mumbles a low “for fucks’s sake.”
“Yes, it’s fine.” He turns back to me. “Are you alright with that?”
“Only if you are.” I tried my best to assure him.
“Alright, be polite, or I’ll sell all your books.” He sternly tells his children with the biggest smile on his face.
“Yeah, right,” his wife tells him.
He feigns hurt, putting on a great act as the Oscar winner he is, “All against me.”
In front of me stand four adolescents, and well, I can describe them, but you’ll have to trust me when I say they are all as polite and beautiful as their parents.
After a short interrogation of whom was my favorite to interview, I was waved out, and I promised to send them the first draft.
“Thank you for the opportunity, Mr. Styles.”
“Thank you for indulging my children.”
“Nothing is more important than a child’s happiness.”
Mr. Styles nods, and as I drive off, waiting for the large black gate to open in my rearview is an image I’ll never forget because nothing beats a loving family.
*see below a photo of Mr. Styles gazing lovingly at Mrs. Styles, whose wedding and engagement ring was hidden from view. Mrs. Styles was dressed in a beautiful eggshell white dress with lace around the skirt. It was made especially for her, Harry Styles shared when speaking with his publicist.
*Corrections made by Styles are that he and his wife had changed their name, having hyphenated their last names. To protect his wife and children, that is left out of this interview.

OOR 2005 - Nr 10 - Rammstein interview

Rammstein - tired of controversy
Until Reise, Reise (2004), Rammstein was the personification of everything that was scary and dangerous. The prince of darkness. If you look closer now, you will see a band that one can laugh with. With Rosenrot, Rammstein blows away the last shreds of fog and shows a band that is not only absurd but also human.
by Philippus Zandstra
Paris was chosen for Rosenrot to receive the European press. The Sonne is shining and it is sweltering on that Wednesday in September. Colleagues gather near the Eiffel Tower on a tour boat. The program is simple: first a listening session, then the interviews. The band members themselves are not on board, they are roleplaying Seemann on a party ship elsewhere. On the upper deck everyone is presented with a sealed and numbered disc man with Rosenrot. Inquiries reveal that we are not allowed to keep it. Fortunately, there is no body search, as was the case with Reise Reise. Only the bags must be left at the entrance. Just sign a contract that no one will distribute the interview recordings of Rammstein GbR and then let's go with that new album.
The first impressions: Spring (slow, Type O Negative choir), Feuer Und Wasser (acoustic, thin keyboards with sudden walls of guitar) and the rippling Ein Lied are ballad-like songs, in which pounding guitars have made way for electronics and the music is even more Reise, Reise seems to breathe. Then there are the grooving hymns: the first single Benzin, the esoteric (pan flute!) Wer Bist Du and Zerstören (with mosque singing in the intro). Zerstören is above all fast, chaotic and has a tender delivery from singer Till Lindemann at the end. Quite confusing. This also applies to Te Quiero Puta: a hilarious song in Spanish, decorated with kitschy Mexican sounds. Here I even note groove twice. The machismo of yesteryear haunts Mann Gegen Mann. With a big wink, because the text is about a desperate homosexual. A strong male choir sings to us, led by Lindemann, who shouts like a man possessed, 'Schwulle!' (faggot). Ironclad is the title track. The drum beat is the same as in Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes and the song also has a swinging bass loop. Yet it remains unmistakably Rammstein. Potential hit. Great album, at first glance.
Past the Pont Alexandre III, Rammstein waits for the press. A Chinese wedding couple has their photo taken on the quay near a stone staircase. Virgin white, while Rammstein waits twenty meters away. You immediately think of Heirate MIch. Not that the couple even realizes it themselves, but still.
When the interview can start on the boat, drummer Christoph Schneider walks along the railing with singer Till Lindemann. The two have an animated conversation in which Lindemann in particular emphasizes his words with many gestures. It is clear that Rammstein (more specifically: Schneider) is not nearly as scary as everyone wants to believe. The drummer looks nothing like the Tarantino criminal (Du Hast), white-eyed bank robber (Ich Will) and transvestite (Mein Teil) from the clips, nor the pyromaniac from the live shows. And no, even the fat, saturated jerry from Keine Lust does not qualify. Schneider looks rather relaxed, friendly even in his army green T-shirt and trendy camouflage pants with slippers. Sometimes he mumbles a bit under his breath when he tells his story in a soft voice in English (!). It suggests shyness, but also thoughtfulness.
Is that you who plays the trumpet in Benzin?
Laughing: "No, although I did play the trumpet in my childhood. I can no longer handle such pieces. Far too difficult, we hired an ensemble for that. Nowadays I can only play ten minutes, then I'm completely exhausted. My condition is really bad. I should play daily, because mainly your lips hurt."
Is the song Rosenrot Rammstein's Seven Nation Army?
Hesitantly: "A little bit, yes. There are similarities. I think it was also composed at the time that The White Stripes became famous. Call it a secret homage, haha!"
Are you a fan of The White Stripes?
"Certainly especially live. They don't care about anything." Makes a dismissive gesture. "When Jack White does a solo, his rhythm parts just disappear. He just can't play everything at the same time, and that's what's so cool about The White Stripes."
Is that simple also something you aspire to?
Thinks for a long time: "Hmm... yes. I can imagine that I will someday start another project. Just do something different. Rammstein has a limited... no, I wouldn't say that, Rammstein has chosen a clear direction and that direction is determined by six different people. Sometimes this limits your freedom of movement and you don't get anywhere. However, it is good for this band, we feel comfortable with it."
Overall I get the feeling that Rosenrot is a lot more melancholic and also a lot less riff-oriented.
"That's right, we threw the old approach overboard some time ago, right after Mutter. We couldn't find anything new in that style of machine rhythms, electronics and riffs. In the end you had all those riffs, just like the song structure of the first albums. It no longer interested us."
Do you feel like Rosenrot is more consistent? Ultimately, these are leftovers from the experimental Reise, Reise.
"These are not leftovers, but good songs that just didn't fit on Reise, Reise. Many songs had the same character. There were three ballads and you don't put them on one CD. Two albums seemed the most logical thing to do."
Rosenrot does indeed come out surprisingly quickly.
"We only had to write five or six new songs: Benzin, Mann gegen Mann, Spring, Te Quiero Puta and another pop song that was not presented at the listening session. I don't believe the new songs are very different from those of Reise, Reise. There isn't much time between these two albums. If you wait and leave songs on the shelf for too long, you lose the feeling. Maybe you no longer like them or they belong to a different time. Te Quiero Puta is of course very different... That song would stand out on any CD of ours."
Whose idea was that anyway?
"Till, even though the song was an instrumental for a while that the band was crazy about. We pushed Till if he could please write a lyric. For us it was a very important song; nice and loud and fast. However, he could never come up with anything appropriate, even gave up hope. Only at the end did Till suddenly come up with a Spanish text."
What in heaven's name is it about?
Schneider laughs in amusement. "Just ask Till..."
However, the colossus that appeared early last year in a children's film (Amundsen der Penguin) is not around. Afterwards it turns out that Te Quiero Puta means 'I love you, whore'. It figures... Another song that raises some questions is Mann Gegen Mann. The archetypal macho Lindemann takes on the role of a latent homosexual.
Another typical figment of Till's imagination?
Laughing: "I can easily say yes. In the end, we have already described every form of love. I think it was time that we had to discuss such a topic. Now you can of course ask me if we are all gay.."
I was more wondering about your popularity within the gay scene.
Giggly: "No idea. Really. I don't think those guys listen to Rammstein, maybe some." Thinks briefly: "And then, gay scene? What is actually a gay scene? A few people who meet in a basement and play some S&M games? No idea. I think there are many clubs within that world with house music. music. That's probably it: house."
Rammstein is also not averse to leather, judging by the last shows.
"None of us are homosexual. But the lyrics of Mann Gegen Mann do take an interesting approach. It puts a whole new perspective on the song - I've never thought about it that way anyway. I mean, Till also came up with a song about hermaphrodites. He did point out a few intriguing things."
We prefer to leave such excesses to Midas Dekkers 1). Yet it points to something new within Rammstein: freedom. Where previously hermaphrodites and poems with blues chords did not fit within the original - read: democratic - concept, the band is now allowed to do more. Especially at their own request. Because things almost went wrong where more democracies get stuck: with the dictatorship of the majority.
During the recording of Mutter, the band's democracy turned out to be a nuisance.
"It has been that way from the beginning: everyone has the same rights and obligations. There is no leader in the band or someone whose voice carries more weight because he does more. When we started we felt that it was possible to work together in this way. practice room to write songs. Somehow, however, that balance shifted, causing certain people... [turns to the side] to become so unmanageable that we had major arguments. Some members even placed themselves completely outside of it; it didn't matter anyway. power struggles within the band were just too bad."
It was mainly between guitarists Paul [Landers] and Richard [Kruspe-Bernstein], I understand.
"No, Paul was not the problem. Actually it was only about Richard, he wanted to control the direction of the band. Tried to make all the decisions, bring his ideas to everything. Richard was no longer open to changes. He came with an enormous amount of material and wanted to push everything through. In the end, no one listened to his ideas anymore. Not even to hear whether they were good or bad. No, Richard's ideas were shot down in advance because they came from Richard."
You've never had the urge to take control?
"Everyone within Rammstein has that potential to a certain extent, which is very difficult. You may come up with something, develop it and then deliver it. But yes, then the rest will hear about it... You have two people who say that your idea is nice and two who don't like it at all. Then they try to change your idea so that they also like it. During that process you notice that the original concept becomes less and less recognizable. You lose it. But that's just Rammstein. And that is part of this attitude. It is easier for some than for others. The fact that we are a unit is good, everyone feels good about that. At least, for eighty percent of what we do."
You always look very calm on stage amid all the chaos, and the calm way in which you now tell your story gives the impression that you are the stabilizing factor within Rammstein. The cement, so to speak.
"I see myself as someone who always monitors harmony. I can agree with that cement; ultimately I am the drummer who holds everything together. On a personal level, I try to understand all the extremes within the band. Sometimes opinions vary so far that some members can't make a decision or talk to each other at all. Because I understand both sides, that can sometimes help, I'm a harmonizer, haha!"
Strange contradiction actually: a band from the authoritarian GDR tries to be a true democracy, only to distance itself from that concept a few years later. You start to wonder whether the six are nostalgic for the past. Or as they say in Germany: Ostalgie. The main exponent of that feeling is the 2003 film Goodbye Lenin, which is set shortly after the reunification. Main character Alexander is stuck with his mother, who has woken up from a coma. While she was in the hospital, the reunification between East and West took place, but due to a weak heart she was not allowed to know anything about the upheaval. So Alexander and his family allow the GDR to return to their apartment. The film was a great success in Germany. Schneider naturally agrees that he too has seen Goodbye Lenin. He is surprised when it turns out that the film was also a modest hit in the Netherlands. "First of all, it is a very interesting idea that that woman still believes in East Berlin and the entire GDR. And that everyone around her really does their best to keep it that way, as a kind of protection. "
Is the fantasy they perpetuate, the GDR, what makes it so strong?
"Absolutely not. I don't look back. It took a very long time to accommodate all those rapid changes of that time. It is interesting that we grew up under communism and therefore consciously experienced those changes. For me, the Wall collapsed at the right time. I was 24 and still had every opportunity to participate in everything."
Do you recognize something in Alexander from Goodbye Lenin? A twenty-something who suddenly has the right to make all kinds of new choices?
"Absolutely. In the beginning there was a lot of skepticism in the East. It wasn't that bad there. In private there was almost no difference with the West. You had food, work, friends, fell in love. You simply didn't think about politics The only thing we experienced as a shortcoming was the travel restrictions. You could go to one of those other communist countries, which we did, but real travel was not an option. As someone said: half the world is not for you. Strange, right? What kind of freedom is that? Anyway, our generation was born behind the Wall. That Wall was a given, something permanent. That would never change. In retrospect, the Wall only stood for 28 years. That's not too bad. However, for my generation it was an eternity."
Is living in a capitalist system confusing to you?
"It was, yes. But the nineties in Berlin... [raises his hands to the sky, a small smile appearing on his face] the most spectacular time of my life! I'm glad I could be there I was a young guy and I experienced everything firsthand. It was chaotic, anarchy! You could do whatever you wanted. Suddenly you were allowed to buy a house, start a club, even have a practice room."
Last year I was in Berlin and I noticed that many old communist buildings are rapidly being demolished for new offices.
"I prefer to look at that development as a whole. Berlin has a history that cannot be compared to any other city in the world. Due to the division, two different cities have developed, each with its own center. Everything in Berlin you have twice. Before the war, Potsdammerplatz was the center with many cinemas, but everything had to be flattened because of the Wall. When you see that Potsdammerplatz is being built up again with modern, Western architecture, then I don't mind. good for Berlin, the city needs a modern touch. Some parts are still really provincial."
Schneider sounds optimistic and is happy with the 'good energy' in the city. When you hear him speak like this, there seems no reason to doubt the good intentions of his band. Yet Rammstein is often labeled as 'wrong' and 'scary'. Something they are slowly getting fed up with. As Ossies, they already have appearances against them. Reports about neo-Nazis rearing their bald heads in the former GDR regularly seep through to the outside world.
Nowadays there is a growing trend towards National Socialism within the old GDR...
Schneider cuts off the question to give an immediate answer: "I don't know what the situation is now, but when Rammstein was still playing in small villages and clubs in the east, I saw a lot of scary things happening. Nowadays I don't go that often to the province anymore, so I don't really have a good idea of the situation. I think it is even becoming quieter and more relaxed. After the communist era, with all its bans, there was a tendency to be as anti as possible. Don't forget that there are many unemployed and social problems. To attract attention, many young people identify with that world. It is very shameful that something like this happens in Germany, of all places. Nobody wants other countries to see it either. Europe has been keeping a close eye on Germany since the reunification. Can we do it alone, without control by the rest?"
Do those people need an ideology to justify their existence? From communism to national socialism, to get a better grip on the new reality?
"They have to be kept happy, that's it. Prosperity, a job, at least help from society. Education is also a major problem. Since the end of the war we have had a very anti-authoritarian school system. Look, children can be free in what they do, and they should develop without a strict government. But I think now it is a bit too much of a good thing. And that is where the roots of that whole development lie."
You are apolitical, but have you never felt the need to make a statement as a band?
"Well, we have regularly been accused of Nazism. Completely ridiculous. We have never made a statement to that effect, nor do we wish to associate ourselves with those people. Unfortunately, the fact is that if you make loud music in Germany, you are immediately the right corner is pressed [sigh]. When we started, we were looking for our own sound, a German sound. We had to look at ourselves, who were we? But also: where was our history? Rammstein was the logical consequence. So not a preconceived plan and certainly not the idea of: come, let's sound like a Nazi band!"
It is precisely this Teutonic element that has earned Rammstein the necessary (negative publicity) in combination with the terrifying shows. In fact, Schneider is still very outspoken about the alleged link with the right. The conversation thus turns to the disgust that Rammstein evokes in many. Fear, the trauma of war, but also the music itself. When Peter Pan Speedrock was allowed to play as a support act in a full Gelredome in 2003, the people of Eindhoven thanked them for the job. Schneider doesn't mind, he's used to it. Because German bands also regularly refuse to open for them. In fact, they hate Rammstein.
Do you really not think that's a shame?
"Oh well, Rammstein is polarizing. We do extreme things that are certainly not mainstream. This band is not for everyone. You either love us or you hate us. I don't even know if I would like Rammstein if I didn't play in it... We are who we are, and you can't change that."
There is still that label of Nazi band attached to you, despite the fact that you have become more and more humorous?
"That humor has always been there, but in the beginning everyone thought we were scary, so the humor was not noticeable. By the way, that is a typical German problem. [Behind the sunglasses, his eyes dart back and forth, Schneider searches for the right words.] There have been many generations that wanted to be anything but German. Just look at the music, everyone sang in English and modeled themselves on British or American bands."
The Scorpions!
"They even did very well, but...[The gentleman from the label comes over, making a cutting gesture. However, Schneider wants nothing to do with it and insists that he finish the answer. Excitedly, he continues his story.] When Rammstein started it was time for us Germans to find ourselves again. We cannot be burdened with guilt and shame forever. Sometimes it seems as if we as Germans do not exist."
Does Rammstein give Germany some self-confidence?
"Something like that, yes. I'm not saying that Rammstein is the only example of what modern German rock music should sound like. There are far too many new rock groups for that, and they sing in German, even within hip-hop. You can feel that in many things Germany is now putting the past behind it and throwing off its shyness. Our generation is not to blame. The fact remains that this Germany has a questionable history that everyone really needs to know everything about. That should never be forgotten. The weight of history , the debt, however, prevents us from moving forward. We are not free. Always considering whether something is politically correct or not, that limits you and it is therefore a major problem in Germany. Everyone looks out for each other. It is downright short-sighted to say whether or not someone is politically correct. We just do what comes to mind. Sometimes that is provocative, but it also helps to find yourself."
So you also feel proud to be German?
Shaking his head: "For an American that's probably very easy to say. I rather think that every country should have its own identity. What is home, where do you come from, what is your mentality? It's a difficult process, but I think we have done something in that direction."

[XXI - The World] ; Where do they want to go for a honeymoon?
Tumblr media
Fandom: Devil May Cry
Characters: Dante, Vergil, Nero
Relationships: character x reader
Note: Gaaahhhh, it's over, done. The whole dmc arcana event is over. Tumblr let me know yesterday that it's my blogs birthday, so I think nice way to celebrate it with the event it all started with. While we're done with major arcana, I'm not done with dmc. As a matter of fact, now that this is complete, I can finally give my attention to the ideas that was left in wips. Stay tuned.
Love, always

Nero would go for a traditional honeymoon. A romantic getaway on the beach somewhere is just the thing. The location of the beach does not matter to him, as long as it’ll be calm and not crowded with tourists there. He doesn’t mind paying extra to book a private beach for this occasion. The boy’s a romantic, so be prepared for cheesy, almost rom-com type of quality time. Walks on the seashore during sunset, candlelit dinners on the terrace of your hotel, those heated moments spent on the rose petal covered sheets… Since there’ll be no one from the shop to tease him, Nero allows himself to be much softer and vulnerable with you. One night you caught him talking to you when he thought you were sleeping. He kept running his fingers over your arm and whispering how happy he is to have you and how he’d love to have a family with you. You never told him you’ve been awake the whole time, rather tucking this lovely memory into your heart.
He leaves planning to you but has one condition. No tropics. Vergil can’t stand hot climates and would rather take you to places with colder weather and interesting sights. London at the beginning of autumn for example is a perfect choice. You two are quite a sight, strolling hand in hand through cobbled streets and wild gardens like lovesick pups. Of course, you’ll visit the grave and home of William Blake, how could you not? This is probably the giddiest you’ve ever seen the son of Sparda. With wonder in his eyes not different from a child, he walks around the museum reading all the plaques regarding his work. You bought two posters with Blake’s illustrations that hang on the wall in your living room to this day. Quite a nice memento of your honeymoon.
You’ll sooner catch Dante dead than him admitting this, but he fantasized about these things before, even though he hasn’t had a particular person in mind. He would love to take you on a road trip. Just pick a country and travel through that place with no particular destination in mind. If he can rent that old surfer Volkswagen van, all the better. You go to the US since it has one of the best road networks plus all the various places you can visit there. Honestly, you spent much less on the wedding itself than on your trip, which lasted for almost a year. If it weren’t for you Dante would spend the rest of his days traversing the roads like an old hippie. You took photos regularly so when you came back you had a beautiful scrapbook/photo album to reminisce about the precious time spent together.

♡˗ˏ✎*ೃ˚ :Neige LeBlanche;
✉ - [Worshipper, delusional, obsessive type.]
➮ NEIGE LEBLANCHE is a sweetheart. He's nice, friendly, naive, just in general a very pleasant person to be around. He's so sweet that it's almost hard to be mean to him, especially with all he's followers and popularity. While he can be insensitive he means no intentionally harm. He genuinely thinks your just a perfect human being and one that deserves all the love in the world. It's honestly almost cute and can be mistaken as puppy love if it weren't for those signs of obsession.
➮ He's a hardcore worshipper for his darling, very hardworking too. Always wanting their darling to be happy and pleased from him efforts. He's willing to give up the whole world for you, just say the word and it's yours. From the moment he met his darling he's already giving praises and compliments right towards their direction. He's so smitten for you, it's pretty much obvious to everyone even you but he's just so oblivious that you can't help but indulge him. He's clingy for sure, always by your side not wanting to leave you alone. Even if you ask for space away from him, can you really refuse him? He's just being there for you, after all he's been nothing but sweet to you hasn't he?
➮ Being in a school full of rich princes and goody-two-shoes like Royal Sword Academy he's probably heard some fairytales from his classmates about the moment they found their love, the moment they knew they were destined to be with each other and live happily ever after. Now he's has this idea of his knight in shining armor coming to save him and sweep him off his feet, swearing to each other that they will never part and staying together forever. Oh, how much he fantasized when that certain day will come. Stay with him forever, won't you?
➮ He's very much in love with you, so in love with you that he thinks you feel the same way too, even though you don't really do... Any nice thing you do for him, just adds to his delusion of you sharing the same love for him as he does for you!! He's already made up his mind that you guys are married, no matter what anyone says he's made up his mind. No one can change it otherwise, not even you. He's already planning your wedding despite still being in school, he's already told his friends, parents, and just everyone he knows in general. His fans can know later. He can finally make his fantasizes come true...
➮ Knowing Neige, he wants you to be happy. For that Neige needs to know everything about you. By everything I mean everything. From your favorites, likes, dislikes, hobbies, just everything about you. He mostly asks you about what you like and dislike thinking he's just trying to know you. Sometimes if he can't asks you any questions about yourself, he'll stalk you himself. He's taken dozens of photos just about you and only you, he even memorized the dates and time he took them. He basically has a whole album just dedicated to you. It's so sweet of him...

hi hi sheep!!
👁️🧸 perhaps a lil domestic fluff for cathie? :0
Hello Ian! ☆
Thank you so much for your ask, and for responding to the OC x Canon ask game I reblogged!
Time for more Cathie! Yay! ♡
Tumblr media
👁️: What exactly do they want with their future with each other? Is that something they think of often or do they just stay in the moment?
I think they both are in it for the long run, and each of them imagine what their future together would be like! Ruthie is definitely the type to daydream about her future with Cater, especially about getting married! She could be working on a wedding cake order at the bakery she works at part time, or see wedding pictures online, and immediately start picturing what it would be like if the cake was her wedding cake, or the people in the picture getting married were her and Cater. Like the idea of them breaking up never crosses her mind, whenever she thinks about the future Cater is always included. There's no one she wants to be with but him, there's no one she wants to spend the rest of her life with but him. She writes Ruthie Diamond with little hearts around it whenever she's in the middle of writing something and starts daydreaming. (Half the time she does it without thinking) Trey borrowed a recipe from her one time and immediately saw all her little doodles on the margins of the paper and had to show Cater. He practically had a heart attack when he saw it, heart pounding in his chest as he took dozens of pictures. (He adds it to the special album he has on his phone that's just pictures of Ruthie, ones he took in secret or ones he wanted to keep for himself and didn't wanna post. Whenever he's sad or feeling lonely, he'll look through the album to help him feel better, or help him fall asleep if it's late at night) I think in the beginning Cater was very "stay in the moment", but gradually started having thoughts about the future and over time got to a point where he couldn't picture a future without Ruthie in it. Like he could be scrolling on his phone when suddenly a picture of a bride pops up on his feed, and suddenly the thought of Ruthie wearing that dress and being the bride in the photo invades his mind. Or maybe he sees a video of a really nice reception area, and imagines him and Ruthie using it for their wedding, and bookmarks the video before he even realizes it. (He would start referring to Ruthie as his wife/future wife jokingly, but the first time he did it he 100% meant it and proceeded to flush in embarrassment when he realized what he said. Ace still brings it up sometimes)
🧸: Would they want to have kids together? If so what are their kid(s) like? How are they as parents?
They do have kids in the future! They have two boys! (One of them biological, one of them adopted!) I know I talked about this briefly on my old side blog, but one of their kids is named Tate (Tay, Tater tot)! He's a fox beastman, and is twisted from Tod from The Fox and the Hound! They adopted him when he was around one years old, the same age as their biological son! (I don't have a name for him yet, so if anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it!) The boys are best friends, always hanging out and playing together. They don't like the other being left out, so if one of them is invited somewhere (by friends, family, etc) they'll always ask if their brother can come too, refusing to go if they can't. (When they grow up, one of them goes to NRC while the other goes to RSA, in a nod to how Tod and Cooper separated as they got older in The Fox and the Hound) Cater and Ruthie are very sweet parents, wanting their children to be happy but also knowing when to put their foot down. So many family pictures and home videos! The boys love their father's unique magic, Cater using his clones when they're playing tag or hide and seek. Ruthie helps the boys get away from him during tag, or has them hide with her during hide and seek. Though they usually end up making a mess, the boys love to help their mom in the kitchen, whenever Ruthie is baking or cooking dinner. Cater helps too, and turns cooking into a family activity for them.
