They... changed Meleanor's name to "Maleanor"????? It's a one letter difference and probably done to match the Draconia family’s naming convention with Maleficia and Malleus (all starting with “Mal-“, as in the Latin prefix for “bad”), but…

They wrote her name as “Meleanor” in JP???So did the name change occur somewhere down the line and they never made it consistent across both versions? 😂

The capital city (City/Metropolis of Dragons) is canonically “Dragonopolis” (which sounds so silly, lol) and Briar Country (the continent Briar Valley sits on) is “Briarland” (one word).

I feel like Twisted Wonderland is in its own 4Kids era from how bad the English translations are sometimes.

We got people out here believing Azul, Jade, and Floyd aren't really friends, Jamil's plan wasn't caused by the caste system and he's just out to get Kalim for no reason, Riddle is a whiney little b*tch, Trey not having a spine AT ALL, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I really didn't think the translations were that bad when it first came out, but as someone who's been following the story and has been a part of the fandom since the game's debut, I genuinely don't understand why they changed so much of the dialogue.

A call to the English translators: GET. IT. TOGETHER.

Why Minna de Yahoo is important

So, if you play Twisted Wonderland on the English server, you’ve probably heard about Neige’s song being cut. While we don’t know what happened to cause the cut, you can get through the story without it. However, it was important to the story and while you can watch a translation for it, I’m going to give a “cliff notes” version. 

Neige’s song, Minna de Yahoo, is a cover of Heigh Ho from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. It’s listed as a popular children’s song, known all over the world of Twisted Wonderland, but the way the song is done is very catchy, enough so that it made Heigh Ho even more of an earworm than it already was (It’s why a lot of people were upset they couldn’t play it). Now with the song missing, Vil believing that Neige singing a children’s song with choreography that looks as if the dwarves will topple over outplayed him to the point he tried to off Neige via poison can come off as super petty and confusing because people haven’t heard the song. If you haven’t heard it, go listen to it because it definitely is as catchy as Absolutely Beautiful. 

To see why this is a threat to Vil, we have to ask what’s Vil’s ultimate goal in beating Neige? To try and break free from being typecasted again.

Neige’s beauty stems from appearing more approachable and more relatable than Vil. It’s why he’s cast as the lead for a ton of media. For a Lord of the Rings example, where Vil would be Thranduil beautiful, Neige would be more like Frodo. That difference has, for years, led to Vil being typecasted as a beautiful villain who torments the hero, who is often portrayed by Neige, as shown by the fact Neige calls him by a nickname, showing they’ve worked together enough Neige considers him close enough to do that. Vil has been bullied by kids for his roles and he’s heard adults gossip how unapproachable he is. Vil believes if he can beat Neige at the VDC/SDC, which acts as a popularity contest, directors and producers for movies and TV will stop constantly placing him in the beautiful villain role and he can finally be the one on the stage until the end. His goal is to break free from a role that he is consistently forced into. 

Minna de Yahoo is a viable threat of a song because not only is it a song that practically everyone knows, but it also showcases Neige’s strength as the approachable beauty everyone can relate to that gets him chosen as the lead role over and over again. Neige picked it because he wanted to sing a song everyone could sing with him. It’s simple enough that even if you don’t speak Japanese, you can pick the song up really quickly. Absolutely Beautiful is a lot harder to learn by comparison. Vil has come up with an original song and choreography, trained the NRC tribe to practically perfection, and put so much effort in for Neige to beat him in again being beautiful by way of relatability to an audience with a simple children’s song that all the years of being typecasted, bullied, viewed as this unapproachable beauty that no one can really relate to, and being denied the one thing he wants, causes him to snap. He forgoes his work ethic to attempt to take out Neige all because Minna de Yahoo shows off the strengths Neige has that Vil has been considered to lack. 

For the second part where Minna de Yahoo was cut, where RSA and NRC sing together it shows off how much of a pro Vil truly is. While most of the NRC tribe is having trouble singing the song cheerily, Vil, who has tears in his eyes from being so upset he lost again, is still able to sing the song as if he’s happy; there’s a smile on his face, no tremor in his voice, he’s got the enthusiasm the song requires, and it matches Neige’s voice well. The only way you can tell he’s upset is that there are tears in his eyes. Vil, despite being upset, is able to give the performance the audience wants or needs. This time, Minna de Yahoo is showcasing Vil’s strengths. He truly is a professional and could fit the lead role as a hero if someone would give him the chance. 

While we’re still waiting for an answer as to why Minna de Yahoo got cut, the frustration isn’t only from the fact we won’t get the rewards of the Twistune or the fact we don’t get to play the song, but from the things the song does to help boost the story. It was in the main story for a reason, which is why much of the fanbase wants it back.

This is mostly for myself but people can look at it if they want

Idk where it was mentioned but around 200 students are accepted into NRC every year. Divide that by seven means around 28 students are sorted into each of the seven dorms every year. We know that there are classes A B C D and E in every grade despite no first year non-mob characters in classes C and D. 200 divided by five means there are around 40 students in each class for every grade.

My Twisted Wonderland Updates

Finally got Book 6 completed on my iPad, Idia was a bitch to beat & I will never fight him again in his overblot form. Never. You couldn't pay me.

With Port Fest starting tomorrow, I'm praying that Jack will come home on both accounts. I will only go to about 40 pulls for my phone & like maybe 50 for my iPad because I desperately need more Fire-Water cards. If anything Book 6 showed me how unbalanced my cards were in terms of effectiveness.

Also!!! Just a heads up to people - THERE IS FURNITURE THAT'LL BE CRAFTABLE FOR THIS EVENT!!! So if you're into crafting like me for your guest room, remember to do the Crafter's Gauntlet in order to get the materials needed for it. This is the first event I think in EN that you need in order to craft something but I could be wrong. I might be misremembering something.

I'm super close to leveling my iPad's Guest Room to level 28, where there'll be more furniture available to craft, that it'll take me tomorrow and the next day in order to reach it. So my brain will be preoccupied by doing Port Fest stuff, crafting, and balancing teams. Since now I have time to kill before Book 7 comes out in EN.

Me thinking that Book 5 drama would repeat over the Rook thing. But nah. They actually cut content now. It’s a fucking Disney game yet they cut Yahoo in the Twistune and even with the boys singing together at the end.

EN is such a mess. It was just dumb and some questionable changes until this point. And of course the horrendous pacing. But now you’re cutting content and that’s not cool at all.

If any of you attack VAs or staff over this, you’re rancid cunts. Plain and simple. Voice your displeasure yeah. Cause this is a troubling precedent. But NEVER attack people.

The reason why stuff like the master/slave theme gets omitted in EN for Kalim and Jamil and now 'spanking' has been changed to 'sweeping', so because they want to protect people who has triggers for certain things or find topics problematic. They heard how the community reacted to the Fairy Gala calling boys like Jamil, Kalim, Ruggie, and Leona as exotic. So it was now changed to windswept. They had to change master/slave thing because slavery is bad and spanking is considered major child abuse. If you want to stop localization removing stuff, then it's time for people to not be too sensitive about these things or just get the hell out of the fandom and series. If people are gonna be whiny about problematic themes, then just get out. Don't force companies to bend over backwards to change it.

There's a difference between changing problematic elements and taking out stuff that doesn't need changing at all.

The whole "exotic" terminology, as a black/Hispanic woman, I can definitely understand why that would leave a bad taste in people's mouths. Us dark-skinned folks in the real world are often fetishized even though we should be seen as normal by now.

It's good that the team takes precautions for unnecessary things like that, but you're right. The whole servant/master dynamic is a huge part of Jamil's background and motivation.

Heck, you can't escape the child abuse aspect of Riddle's backstory. Nor the child death (A.K.A Ortho). That's just unavoidable. Blatant, even.

I don't think the answer is to tell people to "get out" of the fandom really, I think the answer is to ask the translators to find the line between problematic terms and necessary plot themes. And maybe try to reason with our fellow fandom members about their concerns.
