Everything Happens At Nightfall - TWD Rewrite Chapter Eleven
[TWD REWRITE-MASTERLIST]
Previous chapter / Next Chapter
Summary: The whisperers’ threat was huge. They wanted to convey a message of fear by putting the survirvors’ friends and family on pikes, out in the open for the crows to come and eat. Self-served buffet. Anna had lost a friend in the process but she had her father to take care of her and she even had someone to take care of, a new face in Alexandria. But she was going to have to face her own demons, maybe not so alone then she thought...
Words: 5k
Warnings: spoilers TWD season 10 (episode 4 specifically and spoilers regarding an event in season 9 episode 15), mention of deaths, traumas, some joy despite all, physical traumas from an accident (c.f last chapter white-out), lots of blood, violence, cursing, brief mention of some of Anna’s traumas (non explicit mention of what could look like ptsd from SA - not graphic, detailed or whatever, shouldn’t be triggering)
5 months later (or so)
The whisperers. They killed some of them. Enid. Henry, the Kingdom’s leaders kid. She hadn’t seen either of them in a while but it felt weird thinking they were dead. Anna never really cared about this new threat before because she was all safe and protected in Alexandria and she had not left its compound for months. To be honest, the blizzard incident had left her mind and body rather traumatized even though she never said it and she wasn’t ready to go out again just now. She needed some time but she didn’t know whether or not she would be granted it. In this world, the future was more unpredictable then ever and no god, no one, could protect one from what could happen, no matter how hard they tried. This was everyone’s number one fear, having no control on what was yet to happen. But for now, she wasn’t affected by their actions and she tried to live without worrying, for once. In truth, she was just burying them deep to forget about them but they would come to her suddenly and with no warning but she knew that. It wasn't such a big deal because, even Michonne tried to help her live what could be labelled as a normal life, including her at dinner time with Judith and Rick Jr. They were really sweet and their laughters brought a little joy in this apocalyptic shithole of a world. The adults that used to hate her because of who she was, were now sharing bits of their everyday life with her and she appreciated being included very very much, and she was really thankful. The last family meals she had shared were so long ago that they were only vague memories now. A memory that she would cherish the most was the time when she was having dinner with Michonne, Judith, the little Rick and Daryl was at the house and joined them. The laughters, the smiles and the light and cheerful atmosphere would forever be on her mind.
After doing some camp chores, Anna breathed out and sat on the steps of Michonne's house, where she still resided as well, in a room between her two children's. She held her left wrist in her hand, her fingers were shaking. She clenched her fist to stop it as long as she could. Since the blizzard, Anna had experienced tremors in her limbs, mostly her hands, when she released tension after an effort or when she was inactive for too long. What she went through had caused nerve damage to her body and it had sometimes random impulsive reaction. It was a bit like the russian roulette and she was still trying to figure out how to deal with it. Sometimes, when she would get hurt, the pain response would be worse or lesser than what it should have been, like, if she bit her lip, it would feel more painful than it is because the nerves couldn't process what happened correctly, ever since she got stuck in the storm. But the good thing was that it didn't weaken her so much. From where the young woman was, she could observe Aaron teaching some survirvors, late teenagers and adult alike, to fight. Anna never went there because she didn't need a lesson. She had had to learn what he taught them first hand. She had lived long enough to learn how to overpower, hurt or kill someone, on her own. As she stared at her clenched fist, she looked up and saw Lydia, passing nearby those who were training. Three of them had turned to her and were talking to her. Anna frowned as she stood up and walked quickly towards them. Her sprain had healed since she got it when she fell, and she wasn't limping at all anymore. Lydia was about to leave but saw Anna and simply moved out of her way.
“Since you listen to Aaron’s combat lessons so carefully, show me what you learned, come on.” She opened her arms in a defying way, staring at the stupid teenagers, young adults or whatever the shit they were.
“Anna…” Lydia mumbled behind her, her head tucked into her shoulders, eyes on the ground. Aaron silently watched from where he was. The most unfortunate part of the story was that he hadn't told them anything but, Lydia was in the same situation as Anna when Negan was still the big bad guy in the center of everyone's attention and, if she hadn't been strong, she would never have been able to ignore those kinds of people and what they might say. The problem was that Lydia had just arrived here, she had no one. She walked closer to the three of them, casually clasping her hands in front of her with a defiant look on her face. Anna showed that she took them for idiots, with her little mocking smile.
“So, which one goes first ? Come on, don’t be shy.” A blond boy came up to her with a frown.
“Who the fuck do you think you are ? You think you’re better than us ?”
“Oh, no. No, no, no.” She shook her head, biting her inner cheek. “I don’t think, I am sure of it, dickhead.”
He rushed at her and Anna immediately succeeded in blocking his movements, putting his arms behind his back and pinning him to the ground with her knee on his lower back. She let go of his arms when she saw one of his friends approach and Anna just had to grab his arms, turning him aside forcibly and kicking behind his knee to make him fall to the ground. Anna looked at the woman behind them, she glanced at the two boys on the ground who were slowly getting up as Anna advanced towards her, she who was also one of those who attacked Lydia a moment before. The woman took a few steps towards her and raised her arms to attack. Anna grabbed her wrists and pulled her towards her, crossing her arms on her chest, pinned against hers. She brought up her calves at the back of her knees and as she was about to let her fall on the grass, she heard someone move behind her and it didn’t take her long to understand that the boys or at least one of them was on their feet. She let go off the woman and kicked behind her, sending the boy back to the ground.
“I restrained myself from actually giving you the beating of your life and I can assure you, you don't want me to. Because you’d all be dead.” She threatened before walking back to Lydia. She put a comforting hand on the girl’s shoulder, about to leave with her but the voice of one of the boys reached her ears while she had her back to them.
“You think you're better than everyone else, Ma'am Savior, but you're like your father and he's just a fucking scum bag and a loser who deserves to be where he is.” She instantly turned around and when she walked back to them, funnily enough, everyone was quiet.
“Which one of you said that ?” No one answered. “You’re either deaf or completely dumb. I’ll ask this one more time. Which one of you said that ?” She knew which one had spoken but she wanted to confront them before going physical. Anna turned to the blond guy and smacked him in the jaw with her fist. He grunted as he fell down, holding his face with his hands. Aaron shouted to Anna. He ordered the two friends of the boy to take him to the infirmary before approaching Negan’s daughter.
“What’s gotten into you, Anna ?” He asked, grabbing her arm with his good hand but she pulled away from him.
“Next time this happens, don’t stand there saying nothing. These jerks would have gotten half of their face burned if they were at the Sanctuary and dared to talk this way.” She spat out, putting her hand on Lydia’s back and walking away with her to take her somewhere quieter.
“Why did you do this? You got yourself into trouble because of me.”
“I've always had trouble. This was nothing.” Anna replied, slightly smiling at Lydia to reassure her. She went to sit on the grass among white sheets that were hung on wires to air dry. Anna stood nearby, watching her. “When I arrived, I had Alexandria late leader, Rick Grimes to help me fit in and to avoid this kind of situation and yet, you see that there are stil people that hate me. But I got myself another strong ally. My fist. I'm telling you, I've got a hell of a punch.” Anna paused, laughing softly, as she looked at the teenager, she saw her smiling with an amused look as well. “I've been through a lot and I can't stand this kind of people anymore. I no longer tolerate them. And you, Lydia, you arrive in an even more delicate period than me when I was in your place, you don't have a Rick. I remember when I saw you for the first time, several months ago. I didn't know your name or your story, but I know now and you're not a bad person. You'll find your place, eventually, even if it means I have to send people to the infirmary.”
“Why did you say they would have gotten their faces burned ?” She inquired.
“Where I used to live, uh, the Sanctuary, for such a behavior they would have been severily punished. Especially if they were going after me.”
“Why ?”
“Being the leader's daughter was quite a protection back then.” She answered, turning around. She was about to walk away when she heard her father’s voice. He had been allowed to walk in the camp during the day to do chores and stuff but had to go back to his cell every night and was followed around by someone.
“You looking for a job, kid ?” He asked Lydia with a smirk as he pushed a wheelbarrow in which he carried laundry.
“Just trying to clear my head.” She shurgged, speaking in a low voice.
“Hey, dad.” Anna spoke over the teenager softly. He looked up at her upon hearing her voice. She knew he knew she was already there when he arrived but he pretended not to be aware of it until now because she figured he had probably accidently eavesdropped them and didn't want to come in at the wrong moment and have them think he listened on purpose. He sighed silently, letting go of the wheelbarrow’s handles and walking over to Lydia, keeping his smile up on his face.
“It’s your third visit in a week. You keep it up, you're gonna find some socks with your name on ‘em.” He joked, trying to lighten the girl’s mood.
“Gage and his friends started again today.”
“Again ? Jesus. All right, kid, look obviously you're having a day, but, you know, what happened to rolling with it ?”
“I’m not just gonna smile and take it.” She retorted, glancing up at him.
“Didn’t say that. And, I certainly advise you now not to go for it, fists up, like Anna.”
“Why does she, then ?” Negan giggled slightly at the question and breathed out.
“You don't put out a fucking forest fire just by blowing on it, do you?” Anna let out a laugh because of the metaphor. “And, I also didn’t say run and hide. I mean, shit.”
“You said to kill ‘em with kindness. Well, it was Anna who nearly killed one of them, and without much said kindness.”
“I know…” He smiled, thinking of his daughter rearranging this little prick's face but resumed a more serious face quickly. “And, well, I did say that. But look, they trying to get a reaction outta you. They wanna see you upset. Don’t give that to ‘em. Screw ‘em.”
“Let’s go.” Daryl bursted through the hunged sheets and stood in front of Lydia, looking down at her. He didn’t hate Anna anymore and viewed her as a member of the community, at least she liked to believe so, but now he had someone else to despise and the current situation with Lydia looked a little bit too similar to her own, when Rick had just brought her here for the first time.
“I’m good.”
“Now.” He looked at Anna. “And you, go see Gabriel.”
“Come on, Daryl. Cut her some slack, she’s just trying to fit in.” Anna sighed, letting her hands fall to her side in exasperation.
“It's not by hanging out with you that she's gonna get there. And Anna, I told you to go see Gabriel. It's an order.” She rolled her eyes and frowned while Daryl walked away with Lydia. She felt her father stood up and look at her and foresaw what he was about to say.
“Whether I go right now or not, I will have problems.” Anna's relaxed left hand began to shake until she closed it and held her fist in her right hand. Her father gently stroke her shoulder before getting back to doing his laundry chore and she eventually walked away, ready to get scolded at by the priest.
He did lecture her pretty bad, asking her not to play vigilantes. She was pissed but at least he didn’t punish her for the incident and simply send her on her way with a warning. She was supposed to go see this boy whose name was apparently Gage and apologize but she was obviously not going to do that. Gabriel knew she wasn’t a serious threat and that she just wanted to teach a lesson to some idiots but he told her that if it happened again and someone got sent to the infirmary, she would spend her evenings and nights in the cell with her father instead of in a comfortable bed in Michonne’s house, and she would see her edged knife taken from her. That same evening, Anna went out for a walk to take her mind off things since she couldn't sleep. His hands weren't shaking, thankfully. As she walked, she saw figures moving silently in the dark, near the laundry hanging in the camp. She squinted and ducked to move unseen, grabbing a piece of wood from the floor. Something was wrong. She could feel it. Firmly holding her weapon of fortune until she heard someone hush and whisper for a few seconds and the voices got louder. She frowned and heard the muffled sounds of blows and suddenly, Lydia’s voice rose. She rushed through the sheets and got there within the instant. Gage and another brunette boy were pinning her down. Her body froze. She was paralyzed an instant but when she was punched in the somach by the blond woman, she grunted, falling to her knees, letting go of the stick. She coughed and felt the girl grabbed her hair and pull her away, kicking in her ribs. She widened her mouth and clenched her teeth so hard she though she was going to break them. She had to get up. She wasn’t going to let that bitch beat her up like a dog.
She was hearing Lydia struggling against the two boys and crying and Anna straightened up. She grabbed the woman, who thought she had the upper hand, by surprise and caught her fist in her hand. She kicked her in the abdomen, sending her to the ground while she took the stick. The woman went back at her but she had a weapon and she hit her side. The stick wasn’t so strong so it broke in two but she got hurt anyways. Anna grabbed the handle of her knife and someone jumped at her, pinning her down, pressing his knees against her throat. She coughed, having trouble to breathe. Her arms were stuck beneath her body but she tried harder and slipped her knife out of its sheath at her belt and waved her arm up in the air. The man yelled and fell to the side. She got on her knees, urging for air, breathing loudly and harshly, her hand on her neck. She looked around. Lydia was crying, curled up at her father’s feet. He glanced at his daughter with concern in his eyes as he crouched down, putting a comforting hand on Lydia’s back. Anna sat on the grass, still catching her breath.
“We were just trying to scare her.” Gage explained, staring at the tall man.
“Yo, Negan !” Another survivor of Alexandria, holding a pointy spear in his hand, arrived suddenly. “The hell is going on back here ?”
“Holy shit, Margo.” The brunette young man that was with them rushed to their friend’s side. “Margo !” She was her back against the wall, head bent on the side, blood all over. She was dead. The bitch got what she deserved. Anna got on her feet as her father stood up, staring at the woman’s corpse. He cursed soflty, sighing. Anna understood that he had caused her death, but it wasn’t on purpose given his tone.
Tumblr media
In no time, people had gathered around them, mumbling in concert. Negan and Anna had been pushed aside and Daryl was the one crouched near Lydia. The poor girl was still shocked by what happened earlier, curled up on the grass.
“You, freak.” Gage spat out at Lydia's face. His friend took him by the shoulder and spoke up.
“It was Negan. Negan killed her ! And his fucking kid almost slit my throat !”
“Oh, get over it princess, I just cut your arm! You tried to choke me with your knee !” Anna yelled back, giving him a death stare. Her father held her by the arm to keep her from going at them and kept her by his side. Lydia was crying out that it wasn’t Negan’s fault and to leave him and Anna alone but no one listened obviously. The both of them were their scapegoats as of right now. They were the parias so they got blamed for the incident, when it should have been the other way around. The two boys assaulted Lydia and the woman tried to go after Anna when she came. They were at fault here, but nobody seemed to care.
“Now, get them out of here !” Daryl urged. A couple of survivors, including the one holding the spear, led them to the basement with the cell and locked the both of them up. As they walked away, Anna could still hear Lydia crying out that they did nothing wrong and Daryl tried his best to calm her down. Negan sat down on the bed and Anna joined him, wrapping her arms around her legs, her head resting on the cold wall.
“Oh, fuck this…” Anna breathed out, closing her eyes, swallowing harshly.
“Are you okay ?”
“I guess. I’m gonna have a nasty bruise on my neck but, you know… at least one of them’s dead, so…” Keeping her head on the wall, she rolled it to the side and looked at her father and shrugged. “I froze.” He stayed silent as she slipped in his arms, curled up on the bed. He listened, not knowing what she was talking about just yet. “I heard noises and I went to check and I saw them, attacking Lydia and– and I froze. I couldn’t move but this Margo, she took advantage of it because I was weak, at her mercy. I fought her back, then her dickhead of a friend, not Gage, the other one, he tried to crush my neck with his fucking knee.”
“I know.” He said softly, staring ahead of him as she talked. “When I arrived, I saw you choking for air. But you made it, apple pie.”
“I thought I was strong.”
“It’s not only about being strong, Anna. You’re so much more. You’re like your mom and I, you’re fierce, and you’re not easily fooled. When people do wrong by you or someone you’re close to, you feel the need to teach them a lesson but, you’ve been through a lot too. You have your share of traumas.”
“You’re back.” She breathed out. He looked down at her, frowning slightly, curious. “A few years ago, you would have told that we can't be weak, at any cost or we die. The Negan from the Savior would have said something like that, I think. But now, when I hear you, I hear my dad. And I’ve been waiting so much…” He stroke her hair, sighing.
“Let’s go to sleep. Take the bed.” She straightened up as he left the mattress and sat down on the floor. She knew that if she tried to tell him to sleep on the bed in her place, he would ask her to stop and go to sleep so she just looked at him and lied down.
“I love you, dad.”
“Love you too, baby.” And on those words, she rolled on her side, facing the wall and closed her eyes. When she was just falling asleep, she heard the door open and what sounded like Daryl’s voice talking to her father. She was just drowsing and too deep into it to move around and listen or say something so she just let herself slumbered after this eventful evening. She was exhausted.
Tumblr media
Opening her eyes slowly, Anna stretched out her arms and yawned. She straightened up and as she turned her head, rubbing her eyes, she stopped moving and stared at the empty cell. Her dad wasn’t there. She slipped her legs over the edge of the bed and stood up, frowning. She was looking around her, lost, not understanding why he wasn't there, where he had gone. She noticed the cell’s door wasn’t locked and she went to open it and rushed outside the basement, running to the street. She didn’t understand what was going on. Turning on her left, she saw Gabriel walking toward the house, his hands on his hips, lost in his thoughts, concerned.
“Gabriel !” Anna sprinted to him and he stopped suddenly when he saw her appear in front of him. He frowned, staring at her and instantly, seeing her outside, he glanced at the basement and understood the reason for the panick in her eyes. “He’s gone. Someone let him out.”
“Stay here.” He said as he walked at a quick pace to the cell and she watched him from the street, sighing. She felt a void in her stomach draining her energy and she sat down on the front steps of a house and stayed there for dozens of minutes, staring into space. She felt abandoned. She did not understand how and why his father would have left her side overnight. She felt like she needed to be angry because she was just so sad but something told her that he didn’t do it for no reason. Someone let him out, as she said. Someone let him out for a reason that served them and he had to go. He would never have left his daughter behind after just starting to renforce their bond. The morning past and she walked across Alexandria. Daryl was near the gate, on his motorbyke and looked at her walking over to him. Siddicq turned his head as well as he rode his horse, wondering why she was coming to them.
“You’re going to Hilltop ?”
“Yeah, why ?”
“I, uh… I want to go there. My father’s missing and I just want to go somewhere else…”
“All right. Let’s go.” He stared at her and motioned her to get on the bike and she did so, wrapping her arms around him to stay in place. The ride was made in silence, punctuated by the deafening hum of the motorbike. After a while, they arrived at Hilltop. They got let in and Daryl parked the bike in the entrance of the camp, letting Anna get down. A woman greeted Daryl from afar, smiling at him. Anna glanced at Daryl without question as he walked towards Ezekiel. The young blond woman heard them say that they had looked for Negan but found nothing for now. She looked away and sighed. Anna circled the camp, looking for Alden. He would be surprised, for sure. He certainly didn't expect to see her again after half a year. He was working at the Hilltop small forge and didn't notice her right away as she stood there, a few feet in front of him, focused on what he was doing. When he looked up, he stared at her for a few seconds, not really realizing it was her, until she turned her head to him and their eyes met.
“Anna ?” She walked over to him and they hugged as a greeting. It was one of the warmest greetings Anna ever had. She took a couple steps back and they faced each other. “How are you ? I haven’t seen you in months. What are you doing here ?”
“Do you remember what we promised each other ?” She asked, softly. Anna paused as he thought about it and nodded.
“Something’s wrong ?”
“My dad went missing last night. Someone let him out and they found no trace of him. But, that’s only one of the reasons why I came here to see you. I heard about Enid, and all those people the whisperers killed and, uh… I’m really sorry I didn’t come earlier.”
“It’s all right.” He cut her off, looking at her. “You’re here now.”
“Yeah, but… she was my friend, too. You two were kind of my only friends, and now that my father is god knows where doing god knows what, I was kinda lost. I didn’t really know what to do but I just needed a friend’s support.” He listened to her without saying much before running his hand through his hair. He gave her a friendly, compassionate look, which she returned.
“I get the feeling. I think the main thing that drove us apart was how much you’re attached to him, which I never really understood because I just viewed him as a brute, to be honest. No offense. But, I get it now and if you need me, I’ll be there for you, no problem.” She smiled, greatful as he continued. “I’ve got some work to finish so if you want to lend me a hand, I won’t say no.”
“Of course, boss.” She said, playfully, trying to cheer the both of them up. Anna couldn’t really help at the forge as she had no skills in the field but she was useful in helping them prune the trunk of a tree that had fallen on one of their walls. The sleeves of her leather jacket tied around her waist, she cut the branches of the tree with a saw. From time to time, she exchanged a look with Alden, who was nearby, busy at the forge with an older man whose name Anna did not know yet. He seemed to be like a kind of mentor for the young man. At the end of the day, Alden showed Anna his trailer. For the short time she was going to stay here, he would take care of where she slept. He vouched for her, within the Hilltop. Some people still had preconceptions about the young woman and Maggie wouldn't be particularly happy to see her wandering around quietly here.
“You can sleep on the bed, I’ll take the couch.” She nodded while he searched for stuff in the room, probably food, opening and closing cupboards. This was probably his rations that he stored in there, which sounded obvious now that she thought about it. He took a couple glasses and a bottle of alcohol and put them all on a table. She looked through the window. Night had fallen outside. The sky would have been completely pitch black if it was not for the stars’ lights. He poured them the drinks and Anna grabbed her glass and took a sip, seated on the bed. She saw his eyes look down at the small scars on her arm. They were healed and looked like thin white curled lines and since her skin tone was light as well it faded into it expect if you purposely stared at it. They were deep but not so big. He took a sip of his drink. “It’s crazy.”
“Yeah, it sure as hell is.” She nodded, drinking. “I feel like it’s so useles that I can survive this, I mean, I can’t help ‘cause we don’t have the equipment to do whatever needs to be done.”
“You’ve always been above everyone else. High and mighty Anna.” He joked.
“The mighty feels rather useless to be honest. I still feel bad about it…”
“About what ?” He inquired.
“I still feel like I could have done something different, like, I could have done something to help Carl. I could have saved him.” She heard him breathe out, heavily.
“We all feel bad about something, eventually.” They both nodded at his remark and kept talking about everything and anything for hours. After a while, they had gotten drunk enough to dance together around the room, laughing. A drop of her drink had landed on the floor and at some point, she stepped on it and slipped over the couch, grabbing Alden’s arm for some support but dragging him in her fall instead. Their faces got dangerously close and they stared into each other’s eyes in silence, without moving, as if they were paralyzed, feeling each other’s breath licking their skins. Holding onto the couch so as not to crush her as he was on top of her, he never took his eyes off her and slowly brought his face closer, brushing the tip of her nose before pressing his lips against hers. The sweet taste of his lips was mixed with the bitterness of the alcohol he drank. She had never lived something like this, not even close. She didn’t know how she was feeling about it right now because she was too immersed in the moment to think about anything else than him, his lips, his kiss and his touch.

Why in Angela Kang I Trust
Maybe because I've been bruised and battered by showrunners and exec producers when it comes to couples and have also been rewarded (very, very, VERY rarely -- OK, like once), that is why I'm feeling positive about Caryl with regards to the spoilers.
Lemme give a bit of my history.  I've had sooooo many couples, it's not even funny. I'm beyond a couple-girl.  I've been involved in Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, The Vampire Diaries, Veronica Mars, The 100, Star Wars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandoms (and many more). Yeah, so I've been through some ups and downs in the fandoms themselves and with the end result of the product/my couple preference.
Two of the things that these fandoms taught me were (a) critical analysis of the product taking *everything* into account and not just my couple, and (b) how to deal with spoilers to keep myself sane.
NOTE: This is how I deal. I'm not telling anyone else how to feel or deal. This is my bag and what works for me and why I'm personally totally, 100% positive about Caryl despite the recent spoilers.
In one of my fandoms, I was heartbroken by how an episode played out. It made no sense to me. I had analyzed everything, paid attention to all the road signs... how could I have been so wrong? How could she choose the other guy??! It took a few weeks, but I re-thought everything and realized that I had been so focused on analyzing MY couple that I had ignored the OTHER couple. I had ignored the other aspects of the show and that other aspect mattered. It was like a bomb went off in my head. Suddenly something so obvious was now so clear to me.
From that moment on when I analyzed the show, I analyzed every character, every aspect of it and I gotta tell you all I just about nailed every character plot point. Not the twists/turns, but the emotional, character beats? I was right as rain on those. Because here's the obvious thing, no showrunner/headwriter is ever going to write for ONE character, ONE couple. They are going to write for every single character, every single couple.  And if they are good writers they aren't going to take fanfic-like shortcuts to get them where we would like them to be, they are going to dig deep and explore who they are as characters to bring them organically to where they belong.
So... The Walking Dead. Angela Kang. Daryl Dixon. Carol Peletier. Caryl. (FINALLY! Ya'll say.) Angela Kang is a GOOD showrunner/headwriter. She brought TWD back from the disaster that Scott Gimple had made of the show. Seriously, I think 3-4 seasons went by and only 2 months had passed in that time. It was mostly a slow-moving morass of nothing happening with most characters doing nothing, barely connecting. Blech! It was mostly just not good. She whipped this show into shape.
Kang also took a long look at Carol, Daryl and Caryl and realized that in order to get them where they needed to be... which was TOGETHER ROMANTICALLY, they needed a helluva lot of work because Gimple had done ABSOLUTE SHIT with them for about 4 years. They had barely a handful of scenes over that time period, had been mostly separated and both characters had been decimated in completely different ways.
Carol's grief, guilt and horrendous actions had been completely and utterly sublimated. She told no one (including Daryl) about what happened with all of the children she had lost by her hand or through she felt because of her.  So what did Kang do? She used the relationship that Gimple had begun with Ezekiel to create this fairytale fantasy that Carol could escape to since she couldn't be with her Alexandria family anymore because of that grief and guilt. She gave her that respite and escape until she was ready to live with the reality of all she'd done.
And then she opened the door to that grief and guilt with Henry's death, destroying that fairytale/fantasy so that she could finally begin to heal. And that is what we are finally getting now, a healing Carol. She's not whole yet, but she's stronger and she is healing. She's no longer hiding in some fantasy, she's no longer drowning in grief. And she's with her family again. She's come home.
I'm sure just as Kang looked at Carol, she also looked at Daryl and saw how Gimple had turned him into a monosyllablic follower. So, through the last two seasons, she's been building him up as the leader who's stepping up and also... HE SPEAKS! That's really the big thing, but it's such, such a big thing.
Finally, Caryl. To begin with, Kang's first episode made it perfectly obvious that it was a Zeke/Carol/Daryl triangle. However, because it's been sooooooooooooo long and the Caryl crowd has been battered for so long and the ABC crowd is so loud and even the media doesn't immediately jump to it despite the popularity of Caryl the obviousness of it just wasn't obvious. But the way Zeke proposed to Carol to which she did not say yes, his undying declaration of love to which she did not respond in kind to the way she curled up (yes, curled up!) against Daryl to tell him about said proposal and his response, clearly not happy about it, but willing to give her the go-ahead if she was happy was so obvious. I mean, DUDE! Yeah, that was textbook triangle material with the guy proposing being the clear loser in the equation in the long run. And that was Angela Kang's first episode as showrunner!
Everything that followed--the secret visits to him, her cutting his hair, her trust in him and vice-versa--to her leaving Zeke behind in Hilltop and going with Daryl to Alexandria, yeah, all of that was clearly going to be how that "triangle" ended based on that first episode.  But so many Caryl fans were heartbroken, upset, furious about the Carol/Zeke spoilers. Of course, they were. We had no idea what Kang had in store. We'd been burned and battered and used and ignored by TWD, AMC, Gimple, et al. How could we possibly know that Kang had a plan all along and that the Carol/Zeke relationship was about paying time and attention to Carol's character and establishing a subtle triangle with Daryl in which he would emerge the victor?
But that's exactly what Angela Kang did. And then in season 10 she made it clear numerous times that it--only her second as showrunner--would feature the relationship of Carol and Daryl at the heart of it. So I have a few points I want to make regarding the upcoming spoilers taking ALL of the above that I've written into account:
1. Spoilers are tricky things. You simply can not know what is what until you actually watch the episode and even see the full arc play out. When you have a good showrunner/headwriter who has a plan and knows the path planned for the characters--one who has proven they know what they're doing--wait until you see what they are actually doing before assuming the roof is falling in. At least that's my philosophy.
2. I mentioned how the obviousness of the triangle aspect set-up in Kang's first episode as showrunner was so missed and a part of that is because of the fact that there is too much ambiguity in how Caryl and Daryl see one another. Is it friendship? Is it a mother/son (pfft! So fucking ridiculous!) relationship? Is it a sibling-like relationship? Or is it romantic/sexual? (YES, IT IS!) This very well may be what answers that question. (It’s the last one. It’s definitely the last one.)
3. 10x18 is STILL a part of season 10. According to Angela Kang, the heart of season 10 is the relationship of Carol and Daryl.
Finally, there are two characters left from the first season of this ten (of eleven) season show. Carol and Daryl. There is going to be a spin-off featuring Carol and Daryl. A character that Daryl has some sort of history with when he thought he lost Carol when she was married to someone else (after he had lost Rick) is NOT going to suddenly, randomly become the ONE to come between Carol and Daryl.
It doesn’t matter that this character is coming back in the final season. Sorry, not sorry, but it just does not. Carol and Daryl are the ONE for each other. This character is just another Ezekiel, a part of their story. Angela Kang has been organically, effortlessly rebuilding Carol and Daryl, and Caryl back up from the neglect and abuse that they suffered (especially Carol and Caryl) under Scott Gimple.
This is why I trust in Angela Kang.

So.  Thanks to my new anonymous friend, this is going to become a thing.
Shae’s thinky thoughts about the latest episode--Acheron:  Part 2--beneath a cut.
Because spoilers, however vague they might be.
Let’s be real here.  This is more a stream of consciousness than anything else so if that’s not your thing, you are most welcome to nope right on out of this post.  Trust me.  I’ll completely understand, lol.  Sometimes?  I wish I could nope right on out of my own brain and the way it operates.
That said?  Without further ado--
Episode 2′s opening, though.  Maggie trapped with hungry Walkers converging?  It totally gives me Glenn under the dumpster vibes.  I don’t know if that was intentional or just happy coincidence but way to link Maggie to her dearly departed better half, show.
Is it just me or has Father G had more OOMPH to him these last few seasons?  Again, I have to ask--Rosita’s influence or no?  Regardless, I bet Seth Gilliam is loving the job these days.
Side note:  am I gonna have to go to bed early every Saturday night from now until the end just so I that I might be able to SEE?  Something?  Anything?  My curtains are flimsy-ass.  I admit it.  But this is more frustrating than TXF.  Angela, WTF?
No, seriously.  It’s like complete guess work who’s in these subway scenes.  Some of that has to do with them being overly populated by redshirts and the rest of it has to do with me having to squint and turn sideways to make out their facial features.
Look at Daryl busting through concrete walls!  Should I call him the Kool-Aid Man considering NR has once again allowed himself to be led right into a biased, shipper trap?  Hmm.  I might.
Imagine seeking refuge in those dark, filthy subways.  Any second now I expect to hear the skittering of rats.  Will Dog lose his effing mind a la Divergence?  He’s been shown to go off half-cocked that way, lol.  Oh well.  Guess it’ll be in character if he does.
Impressive graffiti storyboards.  Does it mean something that it immediately cuts to the Commonwealth storm troopers afterward?  Maybe.  Who really knows at this point?  They been trying to gaslight us forever.
LOL at Princess yet again.  Yumiko is just like da fuq is this person?
No, really.  LMAO.  “That was her.  From last night.  Did you see how she was looking at us?”
Then you have Eugene, hahaha.  “Oh God.  Why did he tell off the big guy?”  Like the man is totally me in this type of situation.  Not even gonna lie.
“That’s right.  We want to talk to the manager.”
I literally cannot wait ‘til Carol and Daryl meet Princess.  Can.  Not.  Wait.
How sad is that note on that $100 bill?  Small moment but it totally gives me Season 4 vibes when they were on their way to Terminus seeking sanctuary.
Hmm.  Remember how that place wasn’t what they thought it was?  I’m sure neither is the Commonwealth.  But I feel like what’s left of Team Family is totally going to do Rick proud, lol, and prove they’re messing with the wrong people if they try something.
Daryl, Man.  You gonna have to get a better handle on your headstrong Fur Son.  I wonder if Dog would listen better to his mama?  Things to ponder.
Sounds like Miko has this group’s number.  Or does she?
Princess and Eugene totally look like they’re waiting their turn for the Principal’s office, LOL.
“Stop moving!  You’re taking my nerves over the edge to a proverbial 11 on a scale of 10.”  I feel you, Eugene.  I do.  Also you, Princess.  Two of the most relatable TWD characters right there, I’m telling you.
Princess is me when I really, really, really have to pee.  TMI?  Sorry, lovelies.  LOL.  I just...she’s so relatable.
LMAO.  “If that fine ass dude in the orange suit...”  Princess and Mercer incoming in 3-2-----
Princess’s excitement over the toilet paper=PRICELESS.
Eugene, Man.  You desperately need to develop a poker face.
There’s Daryl getting another cool camera shot.  Angela?  You playing favorites again?
Carol’s claustrophobia could have never.  I bet that’s in the back of Pookie’s mind.  You can’t tell me it’s not because Carol lives in there rent-free.
Ohhh.  Back to the subway car.  Looks like we got the Maggie redshirts leading the way.  First sacrificial “lambs”?
Maggie pistol-whipping Negan was kinda deserved, but he wasn’t all wrong so.
Damn.  I’m no Gage fan.  He can fuck all the way off for what he did to my baby Lydia.  But Maggie over there with ice in her veins.
Yep.  I think the dude just got one of the most gruesome deaths in a while.  Yuck.
I think Alden’s faith in Maggie definitely took several hits.  I feel like he kind of had her on some sort of pedestal dating back to Hilltop times.  Father G, though?  The man is continuing to show himself a SAVAGE MFer.
Josh gives Eugene such believable tics and mannerisms.  He IS Eugene.
Thank you, Maggie, for lighting that flare.  I could not see a damn thing.
What are these bad memories Negan alludes to?  Hmm?  Him being a shit husband to Lucille back when he was still taking her for granted?
Father G on Gage’s Walker--”All that is, is a shell of a man, who died a coward.”  Kind of ironic considering Father G’s own origins, huh?  Has he any warmth in there for anybody but Rosita and Coco?  Does he equate it with weakness?
“There are worse ways.”  And Maggie proceeds to paint us a horror story with mere words.
Dark Maggie really surpasses anything certain fans have ever accused Carol of being.  Is she too far gone?  Who the hell knows?  I think it’s clear that she and Carol are both on a sliding scale of sorts when it comes to being able to compartmentalize shit to survive.  Personally?  I feel like Maggie might have leap-frogged Carol in this episode but it matters none because of the double standards so deeply entrenched in this fandom.  Both women have endured and had to do some horrific things.  It’s not a contest.  But it’s probably going to be turned into a season-long one.
It’s almost like Kang was like, “Ya’ll bitches think Carol’s dark?  I’ll show you DARK.  Check and mate.”
Whatever the reasoning, Maggie just got exponentially more interesting to me if not likable.  And before anybody out there comes at me, it’s entirely possible to be on a character’s side in some things and not be all up their ass in love with them, lol.  Like I’m attached to her because she’s family and Glenn loved her.  There’s a loyalty there and she absolutely is justified in her hatred of Negan.  But I’m not going to pretend her shit don’t stink like everybody else’s.
Speaking of my baby Glenn.  What would he think of this version of Maggie?  I think he would be gutted and heart stricken that events led to her being like this but he’d understand because he’s pure like that.  Don’t mean he’d be A-OK with it all.
Dog must be protected at all costs.
Confession.  I know not the fuck who Pony Boy is, but I know him because all my fandom friends have pointed him out to me, lol.  RIP, Man.  I think you’re number’s up or close to it.
Okay, though.  I admit it.  I am kinda LOVING Badass Father G.
That scene in the subway car with all of them working to take all the Walkers out was already badass.  Then Daryl arrived and made it, in @freefromthecocoon’s words, HAWT.  LOL.
Eugene staring at that little black book like it contains torture tools, hehehe.
“Processed?  As in administratively?  Processed as in bologna or other meat stuffs?  This inquiring (enquiring?) mind needs to know.”  OMG, Eugene.  I admit it.  Even if it makes me look like a lunatic, LOL.  I straight up LMAO at that one.  I mean, ten years later and Terminus still fresh on the man’s mind.
“You like feeling nervous?”  Well, no.  None of us that do, Mercer?  Do.
Then he proceeds to make me howl with his “You can’t lie for shit” to Eugene.
Josh McDermitt?  I love you, Man.  40 year old virgin, LOL.
All this talk over the seasons of Daryl’s virginity and we have Eugene, hahaha.  But was he telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?
Finally.  Some daylight.  Where I can see.
Eugene’s relief at seeing his friends safe and sound was such a beautiful thing to see.  I loved those hugs.
Mercer’s face when he snarled “beat cop” in disdain to Ezekiel.  I think I’m gonna love this dude.
“I went to West Point.  Asshole.”  Yeah.  I am.
I know they probably catfishing Eugene right here because spoilers tell us that ain’t Stephanie.  But my heart still did a little d’aww.  Angela.  Don’t play with his poor heart like that.
What’s got Daryl so pensive, huh?  Is it that the note reminds him of kids being lost or taken from their family? Or separated from their family?  Is he thinking of those Grimes babies and wondering if Michonne will ever make it back and why and how she was able to leave them behind?  Tell me it ain’t that Find Me nonsense.
“This place sure has gone to shit since the last time I was here.”  LMAO, JDM.  I mean Negan.  Sorry.  Sorry.  I still hate Negan, but JDM has me entertained at least since they gave the asshole some shades of gray.  And speaking of shades of gray.  I’m loving the gray beard.  JDM’s looking GOOD (hear that NR?  Embrace the gray).  Negan can still kick rocks, lol.
Anyway.  That scene was CREEPY AF.  Not even gonna lie.
The Reapers strutting right on up to our group like it’s The Purge:  ZA.
My bad, Pony Boy. Now RIP.
Dark, dark episode with loads of tension broken up by some welcome humor by Princess.  The girl is fast becoming a fave of mine.
My baby’s back next week!!!
I’m just going to plug my ears and pretend they’re trying to capture/recapture the horses because they’re pets.  Not because they’re starving so bad they feel the need to eat them.  La la la la la.  I can’t hear you.

Beth repeats everywhere.
Okay so I'm back and excited about the upcoming episodes and while bummed we didn't see Beth in 1016. I am super excited about where this is heading...
Even the title names are in your face Bethyl at this point, I mean... Home sweet home?
If the spoilers are accurate-it's actually a good thing...
*Ducks for cover (please don't throw things at me) 🥴🤕
So after a long but very needed break (The world falling apart kinda made analyzing TWD seem very unimportant) I have decided to climb out of my cave to weigh in on the current spoilers that have everyone acting like they just sat on a cactus. 🌵
If correct, these spoilers confirm to me that Beth is just about to be reintroduced and also confirm what i have been saying about how the story is told in TWD for years.
Season 9 and 10 especially has been repeating, major Beth season 4 and 5 plot. And, there is a reason it's getting more and more blatant. It's coming to a head...
We've seen Beth's story on repeat using other characters to remind us of the past, and show us the future to a degree too.
It's called predicative programming, showing a shadow of what's coming before it actually does.
So this Leah...even if she is "real" (more on this a little later) IS BETH showing aspects of the past to subconsciously remind us of past Beth, and aspects of what's to come for future Beth.
On the topic of what's real and what's not, there is a very good case to be made, that this is all in Mr Dixon's (And ultimately Rick's) head.
A bit further on I will go through some of the blatant repeats in the story to remind you just how 'in your face' the repeats from season 4/5 have become in season 9,10.
But first I want to talk through what I think is most likely happening with these potential spoilers.
I see a few possibilities out of this, but none of them are actually bad.
Scenario 1. Leah is real and her and Daryl have a relationship in that cabin.
Why isn't this bad?
This maybe a difficult concept for some to grasp as they see all the characters separately, but...the writers make the characters all one, by moving them in and out of repeating rolls.
So as I stated above, Leah is a Beth fill in and the reason we most likely won't actually see a full Leah and Daryl love scene on screen, is because it's shadowing the real love scene to come which will be with the main fulfillment, Beth.
Leah is the shadow reminding us of Alone and Still, but Daryl's memory, desire and hope are all about Beth, not Leah.
I mean come on... A Cabin? A Dog? Them not getting along to start but then hints of romance? They eat together? She leaves and is never mentioned until years later? and a note? In your face Bethyl.
And this leads into scenario number two...
I've often wondered if all these characters actually originate out of the 'real' Rick's mind (yes i know the comics don't end that way, but that doesn't mean the TV show isn't going down that road potentially)
While unconscious in his hospital bed, the character of Rick comes alive in his mind.
Some might not like this concept, but It does make sense of the constant repeats in story. Which can be likened to a dream state and inception.
If we have been in the character Rick's mind all this time, then once Rick's character "left" in the helicopter season 9, it became "Daryl's" mind we entered (He became the last man standing) and that's when the story shifted and became extremely Beth heavy.
We possibly entered into Daryl's subconscious instead of Rick's and instantly started getting HUGE Beth symbolism.
Why would Daryl's mind/subconscious be showing him in an almost identical setting to what we saw him and Beth in season 4, in Still and Alone but with someone else instead?
Because it seems he has suppressed her memory as much as possible to cope (Leah not being mentioned all this time is another clue that this is actually about Beth), but it's building and building to a climax, which should soon end in the truth exploding from his subconscious and finally revealing that Daryl loved and desires Beth.
Rick's story started and ended with "finding his family"-that was his repeating story.
And until he left and handed the reins over to "Daryl's mind" we were never going to access Daryl's subconscious enough for the truth about Beth to be revealed.
As soon as it becomes Daryl's characters mind in control, we immediately start seeing major Beth repeats beginning.
I'm going back over some major repeats from 9/10 to show you how obvious the repeating story has become.
This became long and it's only the really obvious stuff that I'll cover, there is way more that could be included, and it will become extremely obvious by the time we reach the end, that this IS Beth’s story, just remixed.
Further down i will also explain scenario number 3.
Repeats: Starting with season 9
As soon as Rick's helicopter files away over a barn (which is very similar to the barn Daryl weeps over Beth next to)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see Magna who has been a major Beth fill-in with her blond hair and prison tattoo, and in a relationship with a dark haired archer.
Tumblr media
We then meet grown up Judith with her braid and sheriffs hat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We first see Daryl in season 9, as he comes across Carol and Henry in the woods
Tumblr media
And he suddenly has a dog.
The camp site is a repeat of Beth and Daryl's "Suck-ass camp" from Still.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But having Dog there shows Daryl's desire to have Beth there. He desperately wanted to get her that dog in Alone.
Tumblr media
Daryl kills a snake in suck-ass camp number 2 (it’s black and hanging around his neck)
Tumblr media
Just like in Still...
Tumblr media
Carol asks Daryl to take Henry to Hilltop because he wants to learn blacksmithing.
Daryl says he doesn't want to babysit. Repeating the sarcastic line Beth says to Daryl about being her chaperone.
Beth going to get something she wants (get alcohol)
Tumblr media
Is Henry going to learn at the Hilltop blacksmith. In both cases Daryl does go with them even tho he initially protests.
Before they leave Henry hurts his ankle in a trap and Daryl provides an ointment to help it heal, a repeat of Beth's ankle in Alone and Daryl bandaging it for her.
Soon after we see Jesus get killed in a dark misty graveyard, Daryl's the one to immediately kill Jesus's murder. This was a combination of the Alone graveyard and Beth/Dawn at Grady.
We then see Henry get drunk on moonshine at Hilltop, and when Gage says they should have some more fun, his idea of fun is showing disrespect to the dead walker they trap in a pit. Henry kills it- just like Beth killing the walker in Still that Daryl was "having fun with".
Because of the moonshine Henry gets stuck in the cell block with Lydia (think Daryl saying "home sweet home") and in Still and Beth says "if we are going to be trapped (prisoners) again, might as well make the best of it".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We find out Lydia was abused like Daryl, and Henry keeps saying Lydia is a good person. Just like Beth and Daryl.
Tumblr media
Henry and Lydia are young Beth and Daryl, who bond during this time in the cell block, they get separated due to the prisoner exchange with Alden and Luke.
The introduction of Alpha (An evil twisted Beth) who looks like she is dead. Same with Beta being Daryl with his double knives and who would follow Alpha anywhere. Their roles are reserved in that he is the musical one with a singing career and has released albums (sounds familiar to Emily right?).
Alpha is referred to as Mother by Lydia, and the whisperers refer to themselves as a pack (symbolic of wolf's) which is fulfillment of the song at the end of Still about 'Mother being absent' and a 'party when the Wolf comes home'.
We see the prisoner exchange (Luke and Alden for Lydia) from a nomad group and a fixed community. A repeat of Grady
We then see a Henry, Lydia rescue mission from Connie and Daryl in a building with a elevator shaft that Daryl pushes Beta into (Grady) repeating Beth pushing the officer down the elevator.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As Daryl and Beta fight, Daryl stabs him where Beth stabs Dawn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beta keeps yelling at Daryl "Where is she?" Daryl then stabs Beta in the same spot as Beth stabs Dawn. Repeating Daryl's desperate search for Beth from season 5 and how it ends.
Just before Beta gets pushed into the elevator he says "All I want is the girl", referring to Lydia but it shows Daryl's subconscious desire when going to Grady was just wanting the girl too (Beth).
The song at the beginning of 914 when pregnant Michonne is looking for Rick, is about dream catchers and dreaming. Which could be a hint at this being a dream state.
The episode also repeats the theme from the Grove, messed up children (Lizzy) willing and even happy about killing (Mica). The episode focuses on children killing dear just like The Grove and Josalin teaches them they must be strong, not weak just like Carol taught the kids in season 4. The timeline in this episode includes Henry getting his leg patched up at Alexandria with Lydia (another repeat of Beth's ankle injury) which would have happened around the same time as the events in the Grove.
We see Miles and Hilda running from walkers through the woods, him wearing plaid and her a cardigan just like Beth and Daryl in Still/Alone
Tumblr media
They just happen to come across somewhere safe (Hilltop) but that eventually leads to her being scalped and Miles gets his face turned into a whisperer mask so he effectively ends up "walking around like a dead man" which is a reminder of what Len says to Daryl in season 4 referring to Daryl being miserable due to losing Beth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Connie and Kelly fight about Connie not saying goodbye when she leaves with Daryl to rescue Henry. A reminder of  Beth and Daryl's conversation about not saying goodbye at the prison.
When next we see Beta and Daryl realises he survived being pushed into the elevator shaft.
Beta says to Daryl "You just had to give me the girl, no one else had to die, now that deal is done".
Same theme and mentality of Daryl when planning to rescue Beth from Grady.
He wanted everyone to go home and no one to die so he rejected Rick's plan of quietly slitting everyone's throats and hoped for a peaceful trade . But once Beth was lost to him, that deal was done and he instantly opens fire on Dawn.
The whisperers then kill Henry and the other's by quietly sneaking into Kingdom, taking them, and eventually slitting their throats and cutting their heads off.
All because they couldn't get Lydia back. The tactics were reversed. And in both situations the main Dr was not killed (Edwards and Siddiq)
Henry is killed and Lydia is miserable enough to almost commit suicide while the group is traveling through a snow storm from Kingdom to Alexandria. This is a repeat and reverse of the group traveling from Alexander in a heat wave and drought while Daryl was miserable.
Season 10
We see Siddiq keep having flashbacks about those that were killed at the fair.
Negan in prison at Alexandria is a repeat of Beth as a prisoner in Grady.
In 10.02 (1010) we get Alpha and Beta's back story from 7 years earlier. They are both in a addiction treatment Facility with hallways reminiscent of Grady, Beta has written on the walls 'Why am I STILL ALONE'. hint much?
Tumblr media
Alpha tells Beta that she doesn't die easily. A repeat of Beth telling Daryl that even tho he looks at her like just another dead girl, she isn't.
Alpha starts singing/humming when she hears Beta humming and he tells her to stop singing and never do it again. Repeating Daryl yelling at/mocking Beth about her singing in Still, and a reverse of Alone when he tells her to keep on singing.
Beta asks for Alpha's name and she responds with "The dead don't have names". Reinforcing the theme from Still of Beth telling Daryl that she knows he sees her as just another dead girl, and that's why he's afraid to get too close to her.
We see the introduction of the whisperer sisters (twisted versions of Maggie and Beth from season 4/5) one of which-a blond, has just lost a baby (Beth and Judith) and she eventually dies.
Beta and Alpha talk about what the dead feel, Alpha says "nothing" repeating Beth yelling at Daryl "Do you feel anything?"
Later we find out Beta's brother was being treated in that facility for addiction, repeating Daryl telling Beth about Merle and how he was always high. Alpha is the one to kill Beta's brother, repeating Beth telling Daryl "You got away from it" meaning Merle and his influence, and Beth's insistence on him staying who he is, kept him from becoming his brother.
The very next scene is current time and shows Beta telling Alpha (Just after the satellite hits) that he saw smoke at the boarder. Insinuating the fire from the satellite also represents the fire from the cabin in Still which was also right after Beth and Daryl's talk about Merle and how he got away from him.
Alpha and Beta then interlock fingers just like Beth and Daryl in Alone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Whisperer sisters also have a conversation about how Alpha killed Lydia (which she lied about) and Alpha told them that she didn't shed one tear when Lydia died. One of the whisperer sisters says "She is Alpha, she doesn't cry."  repeating Beth's "I don't cry anymore Daryl".
Beta finds out Alpha lied about Lydia being dead and yells at her "she is never coming back, she is GONE! Alpha." Repeating Daryl and Rick's conversation about Beth being just gone.
Tumblr media
The beginning of 1003 shows Alexandria get wave after wave of walkers because of the fire from the Satellite (Sill cabin) which is a repeat of the walkers being drawn to the cabin while Beth and Daryl are still watching it burn. 413 opens with Maggie, Sasha and Bob fighting waves of walkers in the fog, and the Grove episode which happened on the same timeline showed burned walkers coming to the cabin Carol, Ty and the girls were in.
It's repeating that era.
The fighters at Alexandria are exhausted and Gabriel tells Aaron he has to use Negan to fight because they are low on fighters, he says pointing to Negan then Aaron "Peanut butter meet jelly" repeating the peanut butter Beth eats in Alone and Jelly Daryl eats.
Carol, Daryl and Michonne stay the night at Barnett academy home of the foxhound. Repeating the dog theme from Alone.
Tumblr media
The description of the episode says "The group stays at the academy but Carol falls into a trap." Once again Repeating the Alone/foot trap/dog/Grady/trap theme.
Tumblr media
Carol calls for Daryl to help her once she steps in the trap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This trap causes Carol to fall and hurt her arm badly repeating Beth's arm injury from season 5 when she wakes up with her arm in a cast.
Rosita and Eugene have an argument about how he loves her, and he says that he wished she would would re-zone him into love town, and hoped she'd changed her mind. (Changed your mind? Love? Yeah not spelling this one out for you)
This same episode Carol "wakes up" smiling but actually dreaming of domestic bliss with Daryl preparing her food, they have run out of jam/jelly. Probably because Daryl ate it all lol (once again Alone on repeat)
1006 Carol and Daryl go looking for Negan (the missing prisoner) a repeat of consumed 506 with Daryl and Carol searching for Beth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the same time we see a focus on the doctors/medical ward of Alexandria due to the contaminated water making everyone sick. A reminder of Grady.
We also have Eugene on the radio broadcasting to try and reach a new community, which eventually leads to him and the others in 1016 ending up at the end of the train tracks with train cars and the meeting of a new group.
Which is repeating terminus, who were broadcasting on the radio too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is on a mission to meet the new potential love of his life (Stephanie) at the same time Daryl and Carol are out on their search for the missing prisoner.
We see the whisperer doctor (Dante) plant himself into Alexandria and he eventually kills the second doctor (Siddiq) repeating but twisting the Grady story of Dr Edwards using Beth to kill the new doctor that comes into Grady.
Before he kills Siddiq however, Dante uses poison and kill another whisperer who gets put in the jail cell at Alexandria, he then blames the mistaken medication that killed the whisperer on Siddiq. Repeating Dr Edwards poisoning the new Dr that came into Grady while blaming Beth.
Lydia runs away from Alexandria during the time Dante kills Siddiq.
While Lydia (the girl) is missing and no one knows where she is, father Gabriel oversees Siddiqs funeral. Repeating Ty's funeral from season 5 while no one knew what became of Beth. The funeral scene emphasizes the sprinkling of dirt into the grave just like we saw with Ty.
Next we see a father Gabriel watching a video log of Dante when he first arrived at Alexandria
Tumblr media
repeating the groups from seasons 4/5 arriving at Alexandria and doing video logs with Diana.
Tumblr media
Aaron and Gracie are seen taking about vehicle registration plates and the different states, repeating Aaron and Eric's obsession with collecting them all in season 4/5
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While searching for Alpha, Carol almost steps in an animal trap and Daryl saves her. Another repeat of Beth's animal trap.
Soon after the animal trap, Carol then runs after Alpha leading the group into a trap in the cave, repeating her running into the trap at Grady and being hit by the car and the leading of the group to Grady.
While in the cave we see a bird cage, like we see in Beth's cell back at the prison, the bird cage representing her at Grady.
Carol is rash wanting revenge and stupidly drops the explosive causing the group to think Connie and Magna are dead. Beth at Grady rashly stabs Dawn, causing the group to think she is dead.
We next see a depiction of resurrection when Beta comes out the grave while sneaking into Alexandria.
Tumblr media
Daryl and Alpha fight, Alpha after fighting with Daryl wakes up from passing out, she is reborn stronger.
Eugene takes to Rosita about the probability of never seeing Father Gabriel and the others from Alexandria again because Alpha's horde is coming to Hilltop. Rosita tells Eugene to stop, repeating Beth and Daryl's argument in Still about never seeing Maggie again and Beth yelling at him to stop.
Eugene and Rosita then share some alcohol (moonshine) depicting Beth and Daryl doing the same.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rosita tells Eugene he has no romantic game which we all know applies to Daryl too.
Before the fight/fire at Hilltop, Daryl tells Judith that he is afraid a little bit. With Beth he wouldn't admit he was afraid of losing people, he cared about.
We then see Hilltop get drenched in a clear flammable liquid (tree sap) and set on fire (The Hilltop fire represents the cabin Daryl and Beth Burn)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The episode with Virgil and Michonne is fascinating and aspects in it, could well be repeated with Daryl and Leah. This episode could be a foreshadow of: Scenario number 3. It's in part a hallucination.
In the Virgil/Michonne episode we see Michonne get drugged and she sees what the past would have been like if she'd chosen a different road. She describes what she saw in her hallucinations to Virgil, as losing her family and that it was Hell to see.
Virgil has taken the drugged tea before and he describes it as heaven because it reunited him with his family and he hoped it would do that for her. After coming out of the hallucination, Michonne spares Virgil's life and that act, ends up leading her to Rick's boots
Tumblr media
And the phone with the picture of her and Judith on it.
Tumblr media
The end of the episode ends in Michonne going to "Find him."
So the theme at play is: a Hallucination, then having mercy could lead to clue of a lost loved one finding the other. Interesting...
The note Daryl apparently leaves Leah says "Find me".
If Daryl is in some kind of drugged state during this episode, it could combine his immediate situation (Leah actually being there) and his memory and desire of Beth in a similar setting (Alone). If this scenario plays out Leah could take something of Daryl's and the follow on effect may well lead Beth to a clue about Daryl, leading to her finding him.
Just putting this idea out there as the hallucination theme is reinforced in season 10 with Siddiq and in the very next episode when Carol hallucinates Alpha, just after Alpha has been killed. Princess also mentions not being sure if she is hallucinating or not when she meets Eugene, Ezekiel and Yumiko, and wonders if they are real. And Beta hallucinates the walkers all looking to him and saying "this is the end of the world".
Tumblr media
So the Leah events maybe half true, half hallucination and this might be what leads to a clue and eventual reunion just as we assume Michonne's clues will eventually lead to a reunion with Rick.
After this episode the repeats in Bethyl themes get even more obvious.
Beta takes Alpha's head and goes off on his own to listen to music (Emily's song, a love song with lyrics about going to Hell to find your missing girl) Beta makes a mask of half her face. She's with him even when she's gone.
The last words Beta says to Alpha are "Thank you, I see now, thank you". Repeating the thank you note and how she taught Daryl to believe there are still good people.
Eugene's group going into the city and then on to meet the new group at the train yard, is a mix of the group traveling to Atlanta to get Beth and also traveling to Terminus. Both times at the train tracks with train cars and the group ends up surrounded and with weapons pointed at them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hospital location in 1015 and 16 or "Tower" as they call it, and what happens especially with Judith and Daryl, is in my opinion the biggest clue we are close to her return.
Tumblr media
The hospital is in your face Grady and it's meant to remind you of that time.
Tumblr media
In the hospital we see Lydia patting cats
Tumblr media
A reminder of the claimers and Joe the claimer leader asking Daryl if he was a cat person, just after losing Beth at the funeral home, but before Grady.
Tumblr media
Lydia has just lost Henry, repeating that time. Also if you recall in season 4 just before the Daryl meets the Claimers, Michonne and Rick were separated he was injured and she eventually finds a clue to him and Carl. Michonne is currently looking for Rick again due to the clues she finds with Virgil.
Luke is working on fixing up a speaker system to play music. Music/Beth inside the hospital.
Outside the hospital, in the woods Judith finds Daryl and tells him she doesn't like it inside it smells like cat pee (another reminder of the claimers era) she then tells Daryl she wants to learn what he does.
Tumblr media
Just like Beth learning to track, we even get Judith tracking and identifying what she tracks as a walker while Daryl looks on proudly.
Tumblr media
The group's whole plan for 1016 is to safely get "The music" speaker system out of the tower/hospital, to lead the huge horde of walkers surrounds them away.
Exactly what we didn't get to see in the aftermath of Grady. Getting Beth (music) out of the hospital.
Carol putting the knife up her sleeve is repeating Beth putting the scissors in her cast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carol ends up getting her revenge without getting killed (Unlike Beth with Dawn) but ultimately it's Negan and Daryl that do the revenge killing for Carol and Beth. Carol says to Negan regarding killing Alpha" What took you so long", where as Daryl's reaction was instantaneous, in a split second and he had put a bullet in Dawn's head.
We also see Negan go down the elevator shaft with a rope, just like Beth did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The music they play to get the walkers away from the hospital is "Burning down the house", another repeat of the Still cabin.
Tumblr media
When Negan comes across Beta, Beta runs at him immediately to kill him. Pushing him down he pulls out his knife and is about to kill Negan as he say "For Alpha". Beta Repeating Daryl's instant revenge on Dawn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The title of 1016 is A Certain Doom, which is actually what Coda should have been called, considering this episode actually went to plan (mostly) for our group. Hardly anyone dies, only Beatrice from Oceanside and they get rid of Beta and Alpha's horde.
Beta dies as Daryl kills him before he can kill Negan. As Beta dies we see Alpha flashbacks of her telling him, he is not broken, that they love nothing, fear nothing, feel nothing and it makes them free. This is the exact opposite of what Beth taught Daryl. She called him out on being afraid of feeling and loving/caring about others.
Season 9 and 10 culminates with Lydia (Daryl) saving Carol (Beth) from certain death, by not letting her go over the cliff with all the walkers.
Tumblr media
And standing on the edge of the cliff watching the horde fall down-along with Alpha's mask, Lydia and Carol interlink hands, just like Daryl and Beth in front of the grave. The Grave Beth and Daryl stand in front of says Father, while Lydia and Carol are looking at the end of Mother (Alpha)
Tumblr media
Hopefully soon we get to see the original version of all this, and not just a repeated shadow of Daryl unknowingly doing something that helped Beth survive in the aftermath of Grady.
The upcoming episodes have me itching to see, I'm already seeing more repeats from Alone, Coda and 510 to name a few.
Beth is absolutely spilling out of the story right now through all these parallels, I haven't even covered them all here but just the main standouts of season 9 and 10.
So no matter what happens with this Leah character, Beth is still coming back and it's going to be massive

Key Filming Notes:
Social media gives us a treasure trove of information about what is going on in this episode. First, we know that whatever our group is doing at the Rushton Mill Car Museum, it has to do with the Reapers since we got an actor posting in his full Reaper gear! Next, we know that at least Ezekiel seems to have reunited with the main group by now since his stand-in posted from the Rushton Mill Car Museum set - unless this person is also standing in for someone else we don’t know about. We also know without a doubt that Leah will be in this episode - also at the Rushton Mill Car Museum - as Lynn Collins posted many pictures from this set. There is an unknown person whom I need to research more that has been giving us golden shots on set. We don’t know if he is a new cast member or stuntman but several of his pictures from the museum location show hanging Zombies from the building..

Five reasons TWD/EPISODE 10x17 made me think Beth Greene is about to make a grand entrance sometime soon!
I added AMC Premiere to my online live streaming service a few months back so a family member could catch up on Season 10 of TWD. Well, I actually forgot I even had it until a couple of weeks ago and found out the 10C premier would be airing early on AMC+. Hearing this made me wonder if Premiere would also be getting the episode early. Imagine my delight when 10x17 did show up available to watch last Sunday morning after all! Even better, I also got TTD episode to be shown afterwards.
Tumblr media
After watching both episodes, I have come to the conclusion that Beth Greene is probably not only still alive but also about to pop up in the near future. I don’t know when or where in the universe that will be exactly - though I have some ideas you will most certainly hear about soon - but I do believe she is coming.
So after organizing some thoughts and discussions, I’ve narrowed down why I believe this way to five things in the episode that really stood out to me.
Tumblr media
However, since most of us have yet to see the 10C Premiere: Home Sweet Home, I am deliberately only including the parts that directly have to do with Beth and am doing my best not to touch the overall plot of the story. There is A LOT I will be leaving out but regardless there will be some spoilers included (some quotes, scene descriptions, and some minor speculation of Daryl’s love life based on recent spoilers for the 10x18) nonetheless.
Therefore, stop reading now if you don’t wish to be spoiled at all:
Okay, since your obviously fine with some minor spoilers, let’s just get into it then…
Here are the five reasons I feel Beth Greene will be coming back soon to a TWD Universe story somewhere near you:
1. Because after all these years, they actually said her name again and in doing so, it almost feels as if there has been some sort of awakening.
Tumblr media
And all of this waking up has to do with the return of this lady!
It’s very hard to describe but it seemed like there was an undertone that somehow a sleeping giant had been awakened. Actually, for some reason the entire episode had that awakening vibe to me. I’m just not going into all of it now because this theory involves other characters and part of the overall story. Just know I truly feel these six episodes are really about ripping off scabs and opening up old wounds. I will be revisiting this later though after the episode airs for everyone.
2. Better yet, they actually acknowledged their pain about finding Beth only to lose her again.
Tumblr media
So Daryl and Maggie are walking through the woods...
...and Mags asks if he really thinks Connie is alive. He says he hopes so and says he looked for her a lot but that sometimes people are just gone, you know? Maggie makes a comment that even if she is alive - and even when you do get people back - you can still lose them anyway. This was a direct reference to what happened with Beth. Daryl (visibly upset) quickly replies - almost in warning - that Kelly doesn’t need to know about any of that though. Maggie says well her daddy always said you can’t start to heal until the blood comes to the surface - or something else like that as I had a hard time hearing that line correctly. Daryl teases Maggie and says that isn’t true medically in which Mags says she knows but her Daddy always made it sound true anyway. Daryl gets visibly upset again and says he knows.
3. Because the entire underlying context of the episode had to do with missing people and Beth was directly included in this.
Tumblr media
OMG Beth! Your name is no longer a dirty word!
I feel it’s important to note that not everyone they are missing are all dead either.
The episode actually starts out with Maggie and Judith talking about sharing the same sky with those they are apart from. Judith is referring to Michonne and in Mag’s case, she is referencing those she left in VA while she and little Hershel were gone. I felt the obvious undertones of this included people we the viewers know about who are currently missing but still presumably alive such as Rick and Connie.
This sets up the underlying vibe of the entire episode being about family members who are just gone - especially sisters. Throughout, Maggie talks with various characters (such as Judith, Daryl, and Kelly who is missing Connie) about these people - including referencing Beth and her being missing at one time.
Then the conversation on TTD is about Maggie being able to empathize with Kelly because she went through such a similar thing with her own sister. That is the focus of the entire interaction that is drilled into us over and over not only throughout the episode and but later on TTD as well.
I also found it quite interesting that in these conversations on TTD, Angel Theory (Kelly) keeps referring to Beth being missing in the present tense...so much so that at one point my personal opinion was that some of the other members of the panel kind of got visibly anxious. So keep an eye out for that along with the many other times cast and crew talk about Beth in TTD.
4. While Maggie does mentions that Beth died (which the characters absolutely believe at least at the moment), they STILL don’t mention her body or what they did with it.
Tumblr media
But for like the 1,253,651 time: What the f*&# happened to her body?
I find this absolutely incredible as this episode was the prime chance (and probably the only chance they will ever have again) to address the issue with the body.
Trust me when I tell you, TPTB absolutely knows about Team Delusional. They absolutely know everyone’s biggest hang up is what they did with Beth Greene’s body. They know all they have to do is answer this one question and many people will understand that she indeed died back in Atlanta.
Yet, they deliberately choose NOT to put any of it to bed.
Maggie tells Daryl after Beth died, Glen and her talked about going to her Nana’s house on the beach. All they would have had to do is change that to “After we buried Beth beside the church or alongside the road, or in that patch of grass back at Grady or <insert literally any location you want>, Glen and I talked about going to my Nana’s cottage on the beach” and all of it would be put to rest. It literally would have been game over just like that.
But again, for whatever reason, the writers choose not to do it. You would have thought this is what they would want if there is going to be some budding romance with Leah or eventually C*nnie, or even C*rol in the spinoff, right?
5. Because they not only mentioned Beth but also made many callbacks to her throughout the entire episode.
Tumblr media
Will the real Beth Greene please stand up?
On TTD, Angel Theory (Kelly) felt it was important and made it a point for the audience to know that Daryl was actually teaching her how to track while they were walking in the woods because it wasn’t very apparent. Apparently, this is what all the sign language between them was about. Kelly also uses his crossbow. There is also a burning cabin involved in the episode. Lydia does a voiceover in the beginning very similar to Beth’s Inmates opening. Connie is mentioned by Daryl  as “just gone” and everyone seems to be missing their sister. I’m sure if I watched closer, there would be even more direct Beth references I could spot.
Anyway, these are the things I took away from the episode. I can’t wait until everyone else sees it and we can discuss you guys’ thoughts as well!

Walker Words TWD Question Tag!
I was bored and drinking so I came up with this! Feel free to reblog it and answer the questions yourself! I’m curious to see what ya’ll answer!
*contains spoilers for entire aired show*
Tumblr media
QUESTIONS
1) RICK OR DARYL?
Rick
2) WHAT COMMUNITY WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE IN?
Alexandria
3) IF YOU COULD BRING BACK ONE DEAD PERSON, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Carl
4) IF YOU COULD KILL A LIVING PERSON WHO WOULD IT BE?
Magna, sorry not sorry
5) BEST NICKNAME FOR THE DEAD?
Walkers, obviously
6) WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE SEASON?
It’s a tie between season 6 and season 10
7) BEST VILLAIN?
Alpha
8) WORST VILLAIN?
Governor
9) TOP FIVE FAVOURITE CHARACTERS?
Rick, Daryl, Negan, Aaron, and Lydia
10) DOES NEGAN DESERVE REDEMPTION? WHY?
Absolutely. I think people tend to forget that Rick and people killed so many damn saviors and Negan literally only killed 3 of them by his own hand. I think that he is a much more complicated character than people think. I think his actions in both seasons 9 and 10 show that. Give me redemption arc!
11) SADDEST DEATH?
Carl, I couldn’t stop crying
12) WHO’S BACKSTORY (ALIVE OR DEAD) DO YOU WANT?
JESUS
13) FAVOURITE DEATH?

Note
I was just wondering what is the time line for welcome to the end. Lie how much time passes from the start of things going to sh*t to them losing cas and her losing herbrothers/finding daryl
Fantastic question! (MAJOR SPOILERS FOR RECENT CHAPTERS OF MY CURRENT FIC)
Okay, let’s start- So, the zombie apocalypse begins.
Roughly 2 years later, the Winchesters and Cas decided to leave the safety of the bunker to find Rowena.
2 weeks later, they lose Cas.
Only 4 days after that, Y/N loses Sam and Dean as well.
Then in less than 24 hours after losing her brothers, she gets reunited with Daryl which is just a whirlwind of emotions.
(I tried to match it up with twd timeline; but it’s so damn difficult. So basically Y/N has just joined Alexandria during the 2 month time jump that occurred between episodes 9 and 10 of season 6. After the herd attacked Alexandria, but before Rick & Daryl meet Jesus)
I hope this rough time line guide makes sense.
I try and make timelines follow the shows, but sometimes it’s hard. So if there are slight errors in it, please just ignore it, I’m far from perfect

I didn’t think of writing a post about one of the 15 or so shows that I’m watching/catching up on at the moment, especially not about Fear the Walking Dead, which sure isn’t one of my favorites. But after finishing season 3 (which many people have told me was the show’s best season, but which I found a very mixed bag) I need to have a rant. I felt very ranty throughout season 3, all because of the treatment of one character, which feels like something that isn’t specific to this show. Yes, I know I’m gonna be ranting about storylines that most other people saw 3 years ago, but here it is anyway.
(Note: I’ve only just finished season 3 and I know only a couple of spoilers about the following seasons.)
Also, yes, I know I’m a dummy for even trying to watch another show in this franchise and expecting better results. I guess, even after dropping The Walking Dead halfway through season 8 (at least 2-3 seasons too late), I still haven’t been weaned fully. (A bunch of people have been telling me that TWD got much better with the new showrunner; however, since I’m aware that SPOILER Negan is still alive and got some sort of a “redemption arc”, no, thanks, I have absolutely no desire to go back to that.)
Season 1 of Fear the Walking Dead remains my favorite season of this show - and it was also, not coincidentally, the one that was the most different from The Walking Dead, focusing on the family dynamics and the early days of the outbreak in the city.
Season 2 was very messy, and 3 was somewhat better than season 2, but it also had even more of the worrying trends of doing a lot of the same crap that TWD does, particularly with
1) killing off so many of the original main characters that it destroys the entire premise - the entire Manawa family has been killed off now (Travis' death particularly angered me - though I've since heard it was done for the stupid Avatar sequels), Ofelia got killed off just as she had become more interesting, which makes Daniel the only survivor of his family, too (then they also killed his substitute daughter Lola) and the spoilers about those other 2 deaths make it all even worse.
2) all the TWD-style gratuitous mass killing off of every new group we meet. It especially doesn't look good how easily they killed off the entire colonia, mostly off-screen, in the premiere. At least the white people from the ranch (and an occasional Native American who happened to be in that group) got death scenes and names, but who cares about mass killing of a bunch of Mexicans, right?
Daniel still being alive was my favorite thing about this season and restored my interest in the show after I got upset by the killing off of Travis and the people from the colonia. Alicia got more interesting this season and had some strong episodes, and I'm glad that at least Walker and Crazy Dog are still alive.
But after a while, I got increasingly annoyed at the ranch storyline, and the reason can be summed up in one word: Troy.
Now, Troy himself is not a bad character - he is a really well acted villain, like a grown up Joffrey Baratheon. But the way people around him kept mollycoddling and covering up for him made other characters so much worse, and I mean mainly Nick and Madison.
The only thing that redeemed this arc was Madison finally killing Troy in 3x15, after he revealed he led the horde to the ranch and made it clear he didn't regret anything he had done and said he'd do it again.  I thought she was going to just punch him, so I was even happier when she killed him with a hammer.  At least that's one thing that I've been relieved about - no "redemption arc" for Troy, thank God! He won't be the new Negan!
The only problem - she should have done that so much earlier. She annoyed me earlier in the season when she covered up for him in front of the ranch people, for the murder of the family, blaming Walker, justifying it with "Walker's people killed Travis". Hello? Troy tried to murder Travis, threw him to fight against a bunch of zombies, and if Travis had survived, well, I don't think Jeremiah and most of the people at the ranch would've been happy to see him (were there not enough signs they were racist)?  She also had zero reason to convince Walker not to kill him and not to kill him when she took him to 'exile' and he immediately killed a man and she still went "I don't want to kill you' - why? Just kill him! I roll my eyes whenever a villain is 'exiled' in a post-apocalyptic show, you always know they're going to come back and cause trouble. Just kill him or keep him imprisoned if you don't want to kill him.
But then Nick got even worse. The entire 'friendship' he had with Troy was such BS. We were apparently supposed to think that both Nick and Madison see some sort of a parallel between Troy and Nick, like "they're both black sheep of the family". Is the show saying that being a drug addict is the same as being a deranged unrepentant serial murderer? Disgusting.
This clearly can't be about morality etc. since they don't seem to care nearly as much about all of the people Troy murdered or got killed throughout the season. He really caused 90% of the deaths and it kept happening, and I wondered, just how many people need to be sacrificed at the altar of the deranged white boy that they keep protecting because he has a sad backstory or something? He almost murders Nick and his girlfriend, murders the people Nick lived with in the colonia and led there, promising them safety, and then Nick gets all buddy buddy with him? WTF.
*rant over*
Character rankings as of the end of season 3: 1. Daniel 2. Strand 3. Alicia 4. Liza (either you die early, or you live long enough for the show to make you annoying) 5. Travis (would've been higher if it wasn't for some questionable writing at the end of his arc) 6. Walker 7. Lola 8. Crazy Dog  (not enough characterization yet, but he's been good so far in what I've seen. Also, he's hot :)  9. Madison (fell a lot in the rankings during season 3, only got better towards the end_) 10. Ofelia (just going by season 3, she'd be higher, but she was kind of bland in seasons 1-2) 11. Luciana (mostly gets to be here because of how annoying the show has made Nick, and because she was smart enough to leave) 12. Nick (Why does the show go from making me like Nick to making him annoying by making him cozy up to the most hateful villains (Celia in season 2 and Troy in season 3)? ) 13. Chris (I still don’t know WTF they were doing with him; if the end goal was to make him a villain, they shouldn’t have killed him off and should’ve kept him as an antagonist)

alpha/beta are carol/daryl foils: an analysis no one asked for; twd s10 spoilers, obviously
hoo boy. okay, so i’ve been intending to write this for days, but i had to let it marinate, and also i haven’t been sleeping and couldn’t concentrate long enough to write it down, but whatever, i digress. “we are the end of the world” was something, wasn’t it?? it is so weird to have a plotline in twd that’s like...good? and SO refreshing to have a villain who isn’t a macho, rapey, white dude. i personally believe that all showrunners should be women from now on. oh, i’m digressing again, my apologies.
here’s the actual content, under the cut bc it’s a fucking novel:
so, from alpha’s very first episode, when i saw her shaving her head, i literally thought, “oh, so she’s carol’s foil and they’re going to have an inevitable showdown, huh?” guess who was right? this bitch. but what i didn’t catch right away was how beta is also daryl’s foil, and how the main focus of this season is alpha/beta vs carol/daryl.
let’s take it apart individually first, yeah?
carol vs. alpha:
like i said, the scene that made me instantly aware of what they were setting up was when alpha shaved her head. carol’s hair was a big thing in season 9, and the fact that we had just had henry talking about carol growing her hair out long, juxtaposed with alpha shaving hers off, is what set the alarm bells off for me. i have said over and over that i don’t believe kang does anything unintentionally, and girl loves her symbolism, so those two opposing scenes was a taste of what she was setting up.
carol and alpha are both near-indestructible forces who also happen to be mother’s suffering the loss of their children at the hand of the other. (carol isn’t directly responsible for lydia, but she’s included with “the others” that took lydia from alpha, so i think alpha still sees her as part of it.)
carol and alpha both have transformed themselves to fit within the confines of the world they currently live in, while recognizing that their children weren’t meant for it, even within their own grief. let us refer to figures a and b (lol) below.
figure a:
Tumblr media
here in “the grove” we have creepy girl who i hate and am terrified of asking carol if sophia died because she was weak, and carol straight up is like, “yes.” she doesn’t even sugarcoat it. she accepted that her daughter wasn’t going to survive from the jump, because “there wasn’t a mean bone in her body.”
figure b:
Tumblr media
here we see alpha losing her goddamn shit, because she’s having a come-to-jesus moment with beta about losing lydia, because she can’t have lydia and be the alpha at the same time, because lydia “is not like” her.
conclusion: carol and alpha both mourn for their daughters, but have accepted that to be the people they need to be in the apocalypse, their children needed to die (or in lydia’s case, be dead metaphorically). in short, carol and alpha are two sides of the same coin. they’ve both found ways to survive, except one is for the good guys, and the other is for the bad guys, and now they’re head-to-head, and it is d e l i c i o u s.
moving on.
daryl vs beta:
idk why the parallels didn’t occur to me when they had daryl fighting beta. i blame henry, he was distracting me by being a delightful idiot (rip my dumb bitch), but that seed was planted in season 9, too. go kang for continuity. who knew twd could do that? anyway.
the big thing that compares daryl and beta is who they were before they found carol and alpha respectively. we obviously don’t know a whole lot of details about beta’s life, but we have enough to extrapolate and compare, and extrapolate and compare we shall.
alright, so we got our favorite lovable, filthy redneck, who grew up abused and isolated, and then here comes the apocalypse, and the only person he has left is his brother, and that’s what defines him until he loses him, both when rick chained him to a roof, and then again, after a brief relapse, when merle sacrificed himself.
next we have beta, who again, our info is limited, but he does not become “beta” until after whoever that walker alpha puts down is gone. judging by the size, approximate age, and the closeness beta had to him, i’m betting on, you guessed it, his brother.
observe:
figure a:
Tumblr media
figure b:
Tumblr media
these are both turning points for these men, where they Fully Become the dudes that we know. daryl couldn’t be the daryl we know and love until merle was gone for good, and whatever his actual name is couldn’t become beta until smiley face shirt guy was smooshed.
(side note: how fucking rank does that t-shirt have to be by now? at least the mask dries out, but do you think that t-shirt is just like, melded into beta’s skin at this point? gross.)
so time for the fun part.
alpha/beta and caryl in season 10:
season 10 finds both duos in similar circumstances, by which i mean, alpha and carol are losing their minds, and beta and daryl are like, “uhhhh, you ok?” the men are these women’s confidants, their person, the one they trust and love above all others. carol saved daryl and brought him into a community, and alpha did the same thing with beta. you want more visual aides? well, sure thing, scout!
figure a:
Tumblr media
we’re carylers, we already know carol’s the reason daryl has the confidence and self-esteem to become part of the group, but juxtapose this with the following pic, which i will label
figure b (again):
Tumblr media
and you will see that alpha sees something in beta that no one else does. she sees this lonely, talented man, who’s adrift and in solitude, and she essentially calls dibs. sound familiar? inorite?
so daryl and beta are now loyal to a fault to their women, and this season already has them being wary of how they’re acting. yes, i have more pictures. i like taking screenshots, okay?
figure a:
Tumblr media
one of the first scenes we get with caryl is daryl asking carol if she’s still thinking about alpha, and if she is Dwelling, which is interesting, because...
figure b:
Tumblr media
...that’s exactly the same thing we get with alpha and beta. the first scene in “we are the end of the world” with the two of them in present day is him questioning her motives, and then later on he’s like, “fuck, are you Dwelling?”
and both women immediately are like:
Tumblr media
and neither dude knows wtf to do about this, because they’re used to the women being the strong ones. carol’s whole, “you’ve got to feel it, but not me, i’m good repressing, conceal don’t feel” thing, mixed with alpha’s, “we’re living like the dead and the dead don’t feel emotions so obviously I Am Fine” motto is what their boys are used to, but suddenly carol is hallucinating dead children, and alpha is making shrines, and our poor dudes are like, “plz stop???” esp bc they know these women are FUCKING TERRIFYING, and should never be left to their own devices if they’re being crazy crackers.
ergo, both men are clinging to the hope that they can bring the women back from the brink. my last visual aides, yes i know, how sad:
figure a:
Tumblr media
figure b:
Tumblr media
both scenes have these dudes reaching out to their women and essentially expressing, in their own way, “i’m worried about you, can you plz stay within eyesight at all times, ilu,” bc neither daryl nor beta is equipped to have a nice long sit down conversation about feelings, and obviously carol and alpha wouldn’t bother to entertain it in the first place, so like  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. they tried.
will it work? unlikely! because after that showdown at the end of both eps 1 and 2, these bitches ain’t about to stop for nothing. they just straight up made enemies for life, and they’re going straight harry potter with this shit, neither can live while the other survives, someone has to die, and while beta and daryl are not super on board with this whole “being bonkers and bent on revenge” thing, you better bet your ass that they’re going to make sure their woman is the winner, which means they automatically are paired up against one another as well.
so in a nutshell: we could have just stuck goatees on mmb and norman reedus, cast them as alpha and beta, and called them mirror!verse caryl (star trek reference, yay/nay?), because they’re mother fucking foils setting up for the mother fucking fight of the century, and oh my god, can you feel it in your bones how exciting it is that it’s not going to be a rick + negan dick measuring contest again? i am So Hype.
and ofc, as a hardcore caryl shipper, i obviously have to throw in that alpha and beta are totally in love (which is esp fun, bc whisperers aren’t supposed to feel love, uh oh, vulcan violation, yes i made another star trek reference, bite me), and if they are paralleling caryl, well...extrapolate from the evidence.
i love kang, you guys. i love how she tells a story. i love that she knows how to tell a story. this show is good again, and idk how she did it, but damnit, she did.
thus endeth my pointless critical analysis. forgive me. i was an english major and have absolutely no other use for my degree.
Tumblr media
i’m ashamed too.
that’s all. tomorrow is the early release of the caryl episode, i mean the new episode. looking forward to dying a valiant death with the lot of you. until then, friends.
deuces,
-diz
addendum: i was editing this, and was trying to think if there’s a parallel to the bracelet scene, and the only thing i could think of that alpha gives beta is his mask. she encourages him to take the face of his brother(?), and that keeps him grounded, which is interesting, bc my prediction for the bracelet is that it’s going to end up being a grounding device for carol when she’s dissociating. i don’t have a solid conclusion drawn there, but i thought i’d mention it before posting, just to plant the seed.
k, done 4 real, bye

Question: I need someone to tell me that the white sow will show up in Outlander Season 4. —Erin
Ausiello: I can confirm that the meddling pig, which Diana Gabaldon’s novels describe as a giant nuisance/necessary evil/running gag once Jamie and Claire are established on Fraser’s Ridge, is certainly in upcoming episodes. But — twist! — the animal is not quite as malevolent as it appears on the page… mainly because the practicalities of working with a pig are tough, series star Sam Heughan tells TVLine. “There is, however, a donkey that’s kind of a pain in the ass,” he says. (Yep, he’s talking about Clarence, which Kim Roots tells me will mean something to some of you.)

9x01: Details
Good morning! So today, I'm going over details.
***Once again, spoilers abound for TWD 9x01. I think most people have watched by now, but if you haven’t, don’t click the READ MORE. You’ve been warned!***
Of course we saw a lot of motorcycles at the beginning. We could call that part of the Bike Theory.
We also naturally saw a lot of horses. I notice the ones between behind and Jesus were both dark and light. Of course, with lots of horses that the characters were writing all throughout.
Tumblr media
I want to say a word about the crucifixion walker on the X. First of all, it's on X. (X theory). As I said yesterday, it's one of three Daryl shoots in the head, and because premieres set up for the rest of the season, I think this points to us seeing a crucifixion this year. Maybe not a literal one, but maybe seeing the truth of what happened with Beth.
We also discussed in my group that there are major parallels between this walker and the one outside the moonshine shack that Daryl did target practice on.
Tumblr media
We felt like this was a Beth moment because in Still, she got after him for being flippant about killing walkers. She thought it was more respectful to “just kill it,” than to use it in a way that might be disrespectful to the person the walker once was. We think that's why Daryl shot this walker. In truth, using a walker to keep the crows away from the crops is actually a good idea. But obviously Daryl had an emotional response to that and shot it.
Tumblr media
I mentioned this in my analysis of the trailer, but there's also a walker in the city, sitting next to the car, just like Rick and Daryl during their “you’re my brother” convo. Not sure why they put this in here, except perhaps to be a little ironic because Daryl and Rick are at odds right now.
Tumblr media
I couldn't help but notice a "flip" theme. When Jerry passes Daryl on the bridge, he says, "Clearing the rally point, dude. See you on the flip.” Later Rick and Michonne pass walkers in the city and then flip around and come back to kill them. The writers talked a lot about a literal “flip the script” kind of thing for this season, which we’re hoping means we’ll see Beth. But I feel like they were incorporating this into the episode as the theme.
(The walker Michonne kills when she “flips” back around is the one that was sitting by the car, reminiscent of the “you’re my brother” convo. So maybe symbolic of them returning to stuff that happened in S4?)
When they ride into the city, there are some signs behind Daryl. Before I got a chance to look at them very closely, @wdway identified three different signs with Ps on them.
Tumblr media
That mirrors the PPP card Tara found when Heath disappeared in 7x06.
Tumblr media
Because we know the Whisperers are coming this season, I still think this probably points to them. Which would mean that Heath is with the Whisperers. Either way, this foreshadows something. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Inside the Capitol building, I was reminded a lot of the compound Rick and Daryl found Gracie in in S8. Mostly because there was so much white and wood interior. Because it was darker inside than out, it also had the Grady lighting going on. It also reminded me a bit of father Gabriel's church and the Big Spot, mostly because TF sneaked around and explored quietly with guns. It just gave me S4/S5 vibes.
Ways in which this episode parallels 4x01:
1.Them entering the Capitol felt a bit like the Big Spot.
2.When Ezekiel fell through the glass floor, it looked exactly like the walker who came through the roof of the Big Spot. (And combine that with Breaking Glass Theory).
Tumblr media
3.The “B” painted over a 30 mile-per-hour side. It felt like Beth and 30 Days Without an Accident.
Tumblr media
4.Similar but opposite. In 4x01, there was a herd of walkers overtop of the group (at the Big Spot). In this case, there was a herd of rockers underneath the group. In that case, a walker fell through the roof. In this case the human person fell through the floor. You can see the parallels, but it's also sort of opposite. Which adds to the flip the script theme.
5.What happened with Siddiq felt like an echo of what happened to Zach, just with spiders added. (Another opposite: Siddiq didn’t actually die but Zach did.)
6.We saw wooden barriers with spikes around the communities, just like the prison.
Tumblr media
7. In 4x01, Zach saves Bob. Here, Ken saves horse.
8. Villain mentioned but absent. In 4x01, it’s the Gov. Here, it’s Negan. Sort of backs up the theory about how they’ll replay the sequence from 4x08, but this time Negan will take the Gov’s place, Rick may take Hershel’s place, and Beth will take Rick’s place.
9. The Daryl/Carol scene. These have been mentioned by others previous when this scene was released as a sneak peek, but to recap: A) Daryl and Carol hanging out and talking casually. 2) She says “stop.” I think in 4x01 it was him that said it. Either way, the line was said. 3) She calls him Pookie. I don’t think we’ve heard that at all since 4x01.
When they find the seeds, the packet says Rattlesnake Snap Bean.
Tumblr media
It’s a real thing. As far as I can tell, they’re kinda like green beats but longer and thinner with dark streaks that make them look like a rattle snake. (Source) Hence the name. But this is an example of them specifically using that brand. I mean, they could have shown tomato seeds or something, right?  And when was the only time you saw a rattlesnake? In Still.
Michonne looks at a “More Perfect Union” poster, but it’s specifically about the conflicts that led up to the formation of the country. This is obviously a foreshadow of conflicts coming this season, and it probably foreshadows Michonne's leadership.
During the scene where Ezekiel falls through the floor, there's lots of emphasis on people's shoes and boots. It's probably at least in part because they’re showing that the floor is rickety, but we saw a lot of boots in this scene. It jumped out at me.
I said yesterday that I was nervous about Ezekiel maybe dying. After reading spoilers for next week, I'm already less worried. It occurred to me that Zeke falling through the floor COULD foreshadow his death. But the he didn’t actually die here, and I didn’t see any specific death omens. Rather, it was just a close call. If this does foreshadow something, I would say it foreshadows him almost dying, but in the end he’ll survive to make out with Carol for another day. ;D At least, that’s the hope.
Ken said, “Shoeing these horses is a full-time job.” This reminded me of @frangipanilove’s theory about hoofed animals, especially horses, and shoes.
Tumblr media
I thought it was really funny when Carol refused the ring. She was being such a girl. At that point. "If you’re gonna propose, do it right! Not on back of a horse!” 😆😆😆
Rosita said something interesting when they discovered the broken bridge. She said, "two other herds merged into Sylvia, so now it's even bigger.” She also said that they took out the walkie repeater on the bridge went out.
Tumblr media
It's interesting to me that they're naming herds now. There obviously tracking them and trying to manipulate their pathways. Sylvia means “forest” or “spirit of the wood.”
A repeater for the walkers helps widen the area that can pick up the walkie talkie signal. And that’s been taken out. So their communications have been somewhat compromised. This definitely qualifies as part of the Communications Theme.
After Ken dies, we once again seen a 8:20 clock. Remember that last season, we saw one, particularly in Rick's Old Man Coda. I was originally just going to say that this is still in play, and while we were wrong about it pointing to episode 8x04, obviously this symbolism is still important.
Tumblr media
Then I sat and thought about it for a minute, trying to make connections. Remember, Rick's Old Man Coda was actually Carl's vision of the future. In that vision, he saw Negan being a part of the community and making nice with Rick and teen family. I do think they will eventually move toward realizing that vision. The clock could be to show that they will be moving toward Carl's vision as a way of honoring him this season.
But. Remember THIS POST in which M-Nonny discovered that the opposite time (10:10) represents famous people who were shot and killed. So doing 8:20 may represent someone who was shot and lived. And y’all know I think Carl’s death and Beth’s return will be related. And then there was the Phoenix behind Carl. So, I know this isn’t at all definitive, but it's a symbol I'm definitely keeping an eye on.
Tumblr media
I thought it was funny during Rick and Daryl’s convo that Daryl said, "We can't make enough corn fuel to run the cars or the trucks." Notice that there was no mention of not being able to run the RVs or his motorcycle. LOL. I get that smaller vehicles take a lot less gas, but it's just a convenient way for the writers to allow him to keep riding his motorcycle, even though there out of fuel. LOL.
The whole charter vs constitution thing was interesting. For the record, a charter is something issued by a sovereign (king or queen, which kind of reinforces the whole 4 Queens theory, btw) while a constitution is written by the people. So for right now, Michonne and Rick are just telling the people how it will be, rather than having them come together and agree on their own rules. Not exactly sure why this was included, but it’s interesting.
With Gregory's death, they might have been specifically doing an antiparallel to Randall in S2. Remember in my Opening Credits Analysis, I noted there was a noose in the barn, and it reminded me of F almost hanging Randall. It also obviously foreshadowed Gregory's death.
Tumblr media
I don't disagree with Maggie’s actions (let's face it, the dude really had to go). I do think they’re trying to show that Maggie is becoming a little too dark and brutal for it to be a good thing. So, in S2, TF almost hung Randall, but didn't. Here, Rick and Michonne didn't think Maggie would really hang Gregory, but she did. Maggie is taking a dark stance on things, not unlike Daryl, and it's not entirely healthy.
A few more small details and I’ll shut up for today:
Tumblr media
There were tents set up in the Capitol building, which reminded me of the ones on the sky bridge in 5x06.
Tumblr media
Oh, and this walker is wearing a sweater that looks just like the one Beth wore in the Bethyl hug scene in 4x01.
There were red umbrellas in the background when the spider walker grabbed Siddiq. Kinda like the red umbrella we saw in 7x16? It’s a Red Object which, once again, probably represent red easter eggs/resurrection.
Tumblr media
Right in front of that is a sheet that reminds us of Daryl and Beth putting the tarp over the Rick Bitch walker in 4x12. And it’s yellow! Just so many callbacks.
I haven’t mentioned Xs, but they’re all over: the crucified walker at the beginning. The boat Daryl and Cindy get is resting on wooden Xs. The glass floor has grids, so either boxes or Xs, depending on how you look at them. A vent under one of the Natural History tarp that’s full of Xs. If you just look for them in the episode, you’ll find them everywhere! (X Theory).
I think it's all the details I have for right now. Tomorrow I'll analyze the lyrics of Eldon’s song. Anybody see anything I missed?

My Thoughts on TWD Season 9 so far
*SPOILERS*
After the not so great season 8, a lot of people lost hope that WD could ever be great again or completely stopped watching it.
I never like to leave things unfinished or done, and that was part of the reason as to why I still kept up with the show back then, I could honestly say it was really, really bad.
But I did have hope that the show could be good, if not great again, and I feel like it’s on the way to being at least will like again.
I really liked the first episode, it was good and felt like it was back to the good old days, the next 4 were good too, although now thinking back to it, I do feel like it has more talking than action, yes Aaron did lose an arm and what not, they still need to work on it, bring the focus back in Walkers (which I guess will happen in B2)
What really threw me off was Rick’s final episode, after it was revealed that Andrew was leaving, a huge part (if not all) fandom immediately thought he will die, and boy did they play it.
I remember watching episode 4 and just waiting for Rick to get bit or whatever, and he did have many close calls! like I was on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what will kill Rick.
Then BAM, episode 5 comes and Rick is seeing all these dead people, which was great seeing old characters (RIP SCOTT) and I had a tiny hope that they would bring Carl or Glenn but moving on, it was such a great episode and when I found out Rick was still alive... boy.
the next 2 episodes were kinda boring, I’m not entirely liking the new group yet, and again there was a lot more talking than there was action, but it did leave me with so many questions, like what happened to them? what draft them apart? and what is with the marks?
And I did not like the way Maggie just went off, maybe we will see her again in B2 (I highly doubt that) but I read that she may be back for season 10.
For the mid-season finale, it was good, I can’t wait to see the new ‘’Walkers’’ and Negan after his escaped, and I totally didn’t Jesus dying! I was actually shocked and I did forget that they kill off a character in almost every mid-season finale but I kinda thought no one will die now that a lot of the characters were written off.
Overall, I’m happy that I stuck around and I really can’t wait for the show to be back.

The Walking Dead: What Mercer Means for the Show
https://ift.tt/3sGrxZ4
This article contains potential spoilers for THE WALKING DEAD Season 11.
If one needed a firm indication that AMC’s The Walking Dead is on a quick collision course with its climax, the announced casting of fan-favorite character Mercer should certainly suffice. Michael James Shaw has landed the role, which he will field on the upcoming eleventh and final season of the franchise-spawning series. While there have been major divergences from Robert Kirkman’s comic source material, it does seem that Mercer will be as crucial to the approaching endgame of the series as he was to the comic.
The tweeted official announcement of Michael James Shaw’s casting as Mercer, who runs the military side of massive community the Commonwealth, sent a clear signal that the actor will be the most visually comic-adherent adaptation of a Walking Dead character thus far, showing the 6’ 2” African-American actor in jacked form, looking uncannily similar next to a picture of the comic character decked out in his signature crimson armor. The casting was noticeably confirmed just after Season 10, Episode 17 “Home Sweet Home” revealed the vulnerable side of Maggie’s mysterious mask-wearing, kama-wielding cohort, whose name turned out to be Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari), thereby nixing the widespread fan theory that he was Mercer.
CBS
Shaw—last seen on short-lived CBS adventure series Blood & Treasure, as pictured just above—not only looks the part, but brings genre experience from his appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame as Corvus Glaive (Thanos’s formidable right-hand man), and—in addition to a run on CBS’s Limitless—fielded the recurring role of Papa Midnite on NBC’s Constantine. Now, as Mercer, he’ll bring to life the brutal badass introduced in March 2018’s The Walking Dead #177, an issue whose cover (seen in the title image,) he auspiciously graces, foreshadowing his importance for a dramatic coda to which—at least, at the time—only Kirkman and those in his inner circle knew was approaching.
In the context of the current television timeline of The Walking Dead—notwithstanding the current non-linear bonus episodes—the series seems set to reach the pertinent mark relatively early into the summer 2021 arrival of Season 11. Indeed, the show’s last chronological development, the cliffhanger moment of Season 10, Episode 16, “A Certain Doom,” showed the romantically whimsical sojourn of Eugene (Josh McDermitt)—accompanied by Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) and Princess (Paola Lazaro)—to finally meet with his mysterious CB radio romance, Stephanie (who will be played onscreen by Margot Bingham). Of course, that turned out to be an ambush by a swarm of scary armored soldiers immediately recognizable to comic readers as the Commonwealth’s military—an outfit that is run by, you guessed it, Mercer.

Consequently, we should meet Shaw’s Mercer relatively early on into The Walking Dead Season 11. If the apocalypse-anachronistic sight of uniformed stormtroopers (in Star Wars-esque white armor, no less) with state-of-the-art weaponry wasn’t menacing enough for our survivors, just wait till they get a load of the commander. Yet, if the series follows the comic story’s structure, then the quartet will first be taken to the Commonwealth, where they will meet the community’s leader, Pamela Milton, whose self-designation as “Governor” will likely trigger flashbacks for the dwindled population of series OGs back at Alexandria.
The comic’s subsequent introduction of Mercer immediately depicts one of the canon’s toughest, most menacing characters yet; an introduction immediately stultified by Pamela’s young-adult son, Sebastian, who—clearly thinking that his high place in the Commonwealth’s caste bestows wisdom—proceeds to castigate him in a petty manner over a random walker breach. With that humiliation, Mercer’s comic arc as an ally to our survivors was telegraphed from the get-go, and that seems destined to be replicated on the series. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him stroll into the ominous interrogation room depicted in the recent Season 11 teaser, seen below.
A New World Order. The final season of #TWD begins Summer 2021. pic.twitter.com/8T32Qx6H1t
— The Walking Dead (@TheWalkingDead) March 1, 2021
While we won’t get too deep into the Commonwealth and its too-good-to-be-true nature (we have plenty of excellent articles focused on that particular topic if you’re curious), Mercer is known for becoming a key member in the fifth column that will eventually permeate amongst the Commonwealth’s population of around 50,000, most of whom are callously considered expendable to Pamela and the elite. The analogous comic conflict quickly became a powder keg with the arrival of the Alexandrians—who, in the comics, were led by a still-present Rick Grimes—when the era of cordial introductions and Willy Wonka-esque wonderment at their advanced amenities gave way to serious tension over the Commonwealth’s codified class system, which stood in stark contrast to our embattled survivor’s more egalitarian tendencies—“Ricktatorship” era notwithstanding. Yet, amidst the escalating war with a massive de facto nation state, love would bloom for the eventually-side-switching Mercer, who found an unlikely soul mate with the outrageously loquacious Princess, whose television counterpart—unlikely by coincidence—is part of the foursome who first encounters the Commonwealth soldiers.
Of course, when it comes to The Walking Dead—especially in its later seasons—the habit of assuming comic verisimilitude has its perils, as best exemplified by 2019’s tremendous twist to key comic character Dante. Nevertheless, we know that the television series is headed for the finish line, which is a luxury that comic readers didn’t have at this point in the Commonwealth story, which might make the path for Mercer’s arc clearer than that of other characters. For now, barring any alterations, fans of the series await the casting of the aforementioned Pamela Milton and son Sebastian, which should shed further light on the Season 11 dynamic.
