Until Death Do Us Apart - TWD REWRITE Chapter Fifteen
[TWD FANFICTION-MASTERLIST]
Previous chapter / Next Chapter
Summary: Alden came back to Alexandria just to have to go back out on a supply expedition and even though Anna didn’t like it, he couldn’t refuse; he had to do his part in the community. Her father left along him and the other survivors, leaving her rather alone, even though she had a few people she knew she could count on but she still wanted her family back to her, to be by her side through life’s difficult tests. But sometimes, wanting something isn’t enough for it to come true.
Words: 5.8k
Warnings: TWD spoilers season 11 (bits of episode 1 “Acheron: Part One” and episode 5 “Out of the Ashes”, episode 8 “For Blood”, end of episode 9 “No Other Way”), worry, comforting talks, heart-to-heart, Judith being a cutie I love Judith, bullying, angst, loss, grief, betrayal, TW for Lance & the Commonwealth’s stromtroopers, end of preg, detailed childbirth scene (not as gruesome as in House of the Dragon LOL but as detailed as can be),
DISCLAIMER: Anna’s pregnancy and labor goes well but not all pregnacy/labor look the same. Do not compare.
After the unexpected return of Negan to Alexandria, which Maggie didn’t like very much, her, Carol and a group of survivors that included Alden left for a supply expedition. Anna did as usual, taking care of Adam, helping around as much as she could and to a certain extent since she was easily tired out and sometimes felt a bit sick due to her pregnancy. She didn’t like not being able to move as much as she used to but it coud have been worse. After everything she went through, and now she was pregnant, she deserved some rest and go easy on herself.
“Daddy.” Anna was walking in Alexandria with her son in her arms and stopped in her tracks as he called out to his father, who had gone out of camp. She chuckled, glancing at her son in her arms. She tried explaining to the 1-year-old boy that his dad would be back soon, but he kept calling out to his dad and held out his arm above her shoulder, so she looked around and her lips stretched into a bright smile as she saw Alden step towards them. They shared a soft kiss and he took Adam in his arms. Anna watched them tenderly. This was the most peace she had ever had in over a decade. Little did she ever thought that Alden would be the man she would share her life with, and create a family with. After that brief moment of peace, Alden had to go back out there. The council had voted to go and try find more supply after their first expedition wasn’t as fruitful as they had hoped. Even Negan was to go with them.
“Do you reay have to go back?” She knew he had no choice, he had to do his part and they needed him to come with them but Anna wasn’t so thrilled. He sighed heavily, stepping close to her and pressing his forehead against hers, their noses touching. Anna looked into his brown eyes, worriedly.
“I’ll be back before you know it, I promise.” He brought a hand to her cheek. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” He then slowly kissed her, as if his lips didn’t want to part from hers but eventually, he had to go and she watched him walk away, with Adam in her arms. She had somewhat of a bad hunch about this second expedition but tried not to overthink it. He came back the first time, he would be back this time as well. Before they left Alexandria, she went to say goodbye to her father as well and went about her day, trying not to worry about it but it was always on her mind, weighing over her shoulders. She didn’t want her father or Alden to die. She didn’t want to lose them and end up alone. This had always been her worst nightmare; to lose the ones she loved. The death of her mother and the rocky relationship with her father as she became a teenager had deeply affected her. Apart from Carl and now Alden, she had never had anyone to confide into and had always dealt with her feelings and thoughts on her own. Alden definitely helped her. She had never loved someone like she loved him.
Tumblr media
It had only been a couple days since the group went on a second expedition. As time went by, Anna grew more worried, but she kept trying to tell herself that it would be all right. Alden would come back, along with all the others and they would have more food for everyone in Alexandria and all would be well. This was too utopic, and she knew it. This world didn’t allow for happiness to last very long unfortunately. To keep herself busy, and be useful, she was helping giving out food to the survivors, at some point landing a punch at some guy’s face after he started a fight because he didn’t get his portion, but she handled it, gaining some respect from the survivors. Not all of them trusted her like Aaron already did.
Anna woke up, sleeping beside Adam when she heard people yelling in the house. Because she and Alden had a son and that she was with chid as well, they had their very own room. She stood up, not knowing what was going on and went to the door, looking around the first floor as everyone hurried around.
“What’s happening?” Aaron heard her and stopped in front of her.
“There was a breach in the walls. Walkers entered. Stay inside with Adam.” He then ran downstairs and went on the streets with everyone else while Anna closed the door of the room and walked around the bed to go near the window. Adam watched her in incomprehension, babbling questions to her but she simply told him everything was fine and she looked outside. The survivors were killing the dead that got on the camp’s grounds and tried to put the walls back up so no more walkers could enter. This event certainly didn’t help ease her worry; it only made her more anxious. They managed to plug the breach and Anna could see them from her window as they banged the walls, walking around, probably to spread out the dead on the other side so that they wouldn’t clump all together in one place and bring down the wall again. Once it was safe outside, Anna grabbed Adam and went on a walk with him, humming to him her parents’ song. She saw Judith and the other children with wooden swords in their hands and narrowed her eyes, watching them for a second from a distance before approaching them. She was really like Rick and Michonne in so many ways. The kids were in line, holding the swords up in front of them as she walked before them. She was teaching them how to stab walkers.
“Hey, how’s the lesson going?” She asked Judith, a smile on her face.
“It’s going well. They’re good students.”
“That’s good—” As she was engaging in the conversation with the young girl, noises coming from behind her caught their attention and Judith turned around to see a bunch of kids taunting a walker, it’s head pocking out a hole in the wall. They were laughing, playing with it. Judith and Anna’s smiles faded instantly, and they stared at them. If she didn’t have a kid in her arms, Anna would have went and kicked their asses herself.
“Hey! You shouldn’t be doint that!” She shouted but they ignored her, so she walked towards them. Anna watched her from a distance, giving a death stare at the kids, with contempt in her eyes. “Get away from there.”
“Calm down. We’re just having fun.” One said with a silly smile on his face, as if it wasn’t stupid and dangerous, putting them all at risk.
“It’s dangerous. If you don’t stop, I’m gonna tell Rosita.”
“Shut up!” The moment Anna saw Judith getting pushed to the ground, she gave Adam to Gracie, Aaron’s daughter and grabbed her wooden sword and approached but by the time she got to their level, Judith was holding up her sword to his throat.
“Say it again. I dare you.” She threatened him. Whatever he had said to her, it rubbed her the wrong way but she wasn’t surprised. Anna put her hand above her sword.
“Judith, don’t.” The girl looked him and down and reluctantly lowered her weapon, which was the moment the boy chose to retaliate and say something stupid, but he apparently didn’t know he should have kept quiet.
“Stay away from me, you psycho.”
“Okay, you bette shut your mouth.” Anna rose her voice, speaking over him and pushing him away. She didn’t put much strength this time so he only lost his balance a little but she could have hurt him much more. She wanted to try and be the bigger person. Anna held out her hand to Judith to borrow her sword and the girl obliged. When the young woman walked towards them with the weapon, they got scared and stepped away with panic in their eyes but then she simply stabbed the walker’s head pocking out the wall.
“Now, get the fuck outta here, or you’re gonna have troubles I can assure you.” Anna warned them before giving the sword back to Judith. They stayed quiet, kind of looking at each other. She thanked Gracie for keeping Adam and she followed the young girl as she walked away silently. Whatever he told her, it had upset her, and Anna could tell. She had been there. Their paths parted when Anna went to put Adam in her room so he could have his afternoon nap and she walked around the houses, looking for Judith when she heard muffled sniffs, she took a few steps and found Judith seated on the steps behind the house, holding broken planks of woods on her laps and some pieces lying at her feet.
“Hey. What is this?” Anna asked, not knowing what it was but assuming it was something Carl had done with her when she was a baby. It was so long ago. She couldn’t quite remember his voice anymore. Judith stared at the big hand mark in blue paint, probably Carl’s hand.
“Carl made this with me when I was younger… Now it’s broken, and he’s gone. Everybody is.” She replied, her voice breaking with sadness. What the girl said made Anna teary as well. They all had lost so much, so young. Even though Anna had grown up, remembering the people she had lost was hard but Judith was still a kid and very much in the middle of her grief. Rosita climbed a few steps and rested her arm on the railing.
“I miss them all, too.”
“Does it get easier?” Anna sat down next to her, taking a silent but deep breath, looking in the distance for a second. She always wondered if it would get easier and about 15 years later, she still missed her mom like the little kid she was when she died. She was stil traumatised but had to deal with it and keep going. The times where she stopped were the times when things started to stagnate and not moving forward and that’s not good because the days it all breaks is going to be even harder than before.
“I’d be lying if I said it did.” She admitted.
“I’m worried I’ll start to forget about them.”
“You might forget their voice, but they will always be with you.” Anna told her softly. “You know, I was your age when the outbreak happened. That’s when I lost my mom. It was almost 15 years ago, maybe a little less… I still miss her all the time. She had been diagnosed with cancer a few months prior. When she died, my dad burned down the house and we left. For a very long time, it was only the two of us. Because of who he then became, it wasn’t the best of relationship but he was my anchor. He did awful things, but always protected me, and managed to keep us going. My mom’s death really fucked him up.” She bit her lips, frowning a little, her eyes getting teary as she tried to hold up the tears from running down her face. “Both my parents always tried to make sure I was strong enough to survive in life, whether it was the old world or this one. And Carl and your dad did the same thing for you. So you’d always be able to get through the tough times ‘cause we always must keep going. Pieces of wood are nice. I have a couple pictures in my necklace.” She gently put her hand on Judith. “But you don’t need that to remember how much they loved you. We’re gonna fix it, okay?”
“Yeah.” She chuckled. They then went into the house, looking for glue and other things they could use to repair the broken handprints. Rosita met them in the way and went to help them. She stayed with Judith when Anna left a moment to check on Adam but he was sleeping peacefully so she came back. The moment she stepped in the kitchen, Rosita and Judith were bent over the radio. Anna jogged to them.
“Eugene, are you okay?”
“Rosita? Oh, it’s dang good to hear your voice.”
“You too. I got Judith and Anna here.”
“Hi. Are you all safe?” Judith enquired.
“Hello. Hello guys. Yes, we’re all safe. We’re doing okay.” He replied. “Uh, how are things?”
“Well, the war’s over.” Rosita went on to explain. “Uh, Alpha and Beta are dead. But… Alexandria’s trashed, and we’re running out of food.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t get…” His voice started breaking up over the radio and they couldn’t understand a word of what he said.
“Yeah. Eugene? Eugene, you still there?” Rosita tried to get back in contact with him but in vain. “Eugene, where are you?”
“Is he gone?” Judith wondered.
“The signal was fine so far... looks like someone interrupted it on his end.” Anna and Rosita looked at each other in confusion. Something wasn’t right, but they had no idea what. They couldn’t know what happened on Eugene’s side for the conversation to be cut so short.
Tumblr media
Not long after the incident with the walkers lurking around the camp because a wall had fallen, a storm passed through Alexandria and made matters worse. The survivors had managed to get rid of the zombies but now, they had to wait it out, barricading themselves in the house, praying for their survival because they knew that the storm would weaken the already fragile walls and the walkers would enter again. Judith, Gracie, Rick Jr and Hershel were all sat against a wall together while the adults around them pushed pieces of furnitures to the windows,  hanging planks across them to protect themselves if the walkers tried to enter the home. A baby was crying in another room. Anna looked around, holding Adam in her arms, humming a lullaby to his ear to keep him calm. She was lucky to have such a calm toddler. Whoever’s baby was screaming like that was probably having a much harder time calming the child down. Despite being closed, the front door was trembling because of the wind. Magda took a closer look and Rosita looked at her. The noise was becoming rather annoying.
“What’s with that door?”
“It’s rotted out. This storm keeps up, it’ll shake apart.” On her words, thunder rang outside, making the kids jump and the babies started crying again. Even Adam. Anna followed Nabila and Magda to the room where the younger kids were so she could calm him down. From the other room, they heard a window break and the door slam open, followed by brief screams of panic. She went back, standing in the hallway and saw them keeping the door closed, a few of them pressing against it. Judith stood up and looked out the window. Outside the rain was pouring, lighting striking across the darkened sky. Anna had been through storms like this. She remembered the one that occurred a few years ago, with all that snow they were stuck in a shed and had to move to the house where the others were. Judith thought she had heard Daryl’s dog in the distance after it had ran off and a couple of them went after her, among which was Anna. The cold penetrating her clothes, down to her bones and she got lost in the storm. She either slipped or got her ankle caught by a walker trapped under the snow; she couldn't quite remember but either way she fell and twisted her ankle. After that, her memory of that night was very hazy, but her father eventually found her and saved her from freezing to death. But now, her was nowhere to be found to save her so she had to make sure she wouldn’t need any saving, for her and Adam. They had to survive for when Alden would be coming back.
“What was that?” Judith enquired after hearing a loud bang. From where she stood, Anna could see out the window and she saw a large sheet of metal sliding down the street, pushed by both the rain and furious wind.
“A piece of the wall.” That couldn’t be good news. They then stepped away from the door and windows. Walkers were going to enter Alexandria and none of them would be able to do anything because going out there would be as dangerous as staying inside. The main thing that was bothering Anna in this moment was that she had to be extra careful, another life depended on her for survival. She had to put her son’s survival first, not that she liked having to sit this one out if they came to having to fight off the dead because would have it happened a few years back, she would have had her knife in hand, already ready to stab some rotting skull but now things were wildly different. She had to take on a whole new approach to this situation. She went to the room with the children, sat down on a chair and rocked Adam in her arms, looking out a barricaded window, focusing on staying calm and keeping him calm. Crying woud surely draw the walkers to their hideout.
A few of the survivors separated into three teams at the counsel of Aaron, his group went to try and put out a fire that caught in the windmill, Carol’s had to go put the wall back together and Rosita and the rest of them remained in the house to protect everyone that was in it. Anna couldn’t wait for this storm to pass anc for the sky to get clear but it wasn’t going to happen any time soon and she had to prepare herself for it to get worse once the walkers would reach them. She wasn’t about to get bit a third time either. Once Adam had went to sleep, Anna put him down in a crib. She noticed Nabila looking at her. She could see the young woman was rather restless, stressed out by the storm but also because her loved ones being far away from Alexandria so she told her to go with the others in the living room and Anna thanked her, having no need to get told this twice. She brought some more planks she found to Rosita  and started helping put them across the windows. Getting some action helped her numb the worry that overwhelmed her when she thought of Alden and her father and things went fine until Gracie started screaming. She was by the broken window. They didn’t have much planks so it hd been loosely barricaded and a waker stuck his arm inside. In the blink of an eye, Judith cut his hand off and Anna rushed to them, stabbing him under the chin before stepping away. This was only the beginning. There woud be more dead coming for sure. A second after getting rid of that walker, a second one came. He was taken care of by a man whose name Anna didn’t know and Rosita and a coupe others rushed to the window to put more planks.
“They’re all over out there.” Lydia said, looking around with wide eyes.
“Radio Carol, tell her there must be another breach.” Rosita instructed and Lydia and Dianne hurried away. She then had Judith extinguish all the candles in the room. The lot of them stood there, in a silence perturbed by the snarling of the dead as they cramped against the walls and their eyes swept around them, holding their breaths. Rosita and Lydia ran to hold the door in place, blocking the doorknob from turning with a chair while the walker banged on it. Dianne joined them after a minute.
“Oh, the hinges are coming apart!” Lydia looked up, strands of hair in her face. Anna held onto her knife, gulping.
“And the frame.” Dianne added.
“What are you doing?” The teenager asked Rosita when she glanced outside and jogged to the table to get something.
“I’m buying us time.” She came back and stood in front of the door, a long machete in her hands. “Close the door behind me. On my count. One... Two… three!”
Dianne then opened the door and Rosita disappeared outside. They closed it after her and held it as they did before. Judith stepped near a window and looked outside, followed by Gracie. Rosita was on the porch, smashing the walkers’ heads with the machete but a minute later, they heard banging coming from the door. Dianne and Lydia glanced at each other and opened. Rosita was panting, soaking wet as she stepped inside the house.
“Let’s stay away from the windows.” She told the children in a low voice, out of breath. This first situation of the night was handled but it would be definitely not be the first disturbance and it didn’t take long for it to take a whole other turn. More walkers were gathered around the house, trying to force their way in. This wasn’t gonna held them for long.
“Do I need to radio Aaron and Carol?” Dianne asked.
“No. They need to put out that fire and close those breaches.” Rosita retorted.
“If we get everyone upstairs, we can hold them off to the first floor, right?” Lydia wondered, panicking. When Rosita then ordered them to do, they immidietaly cleared the room. Anna went to grab Adam while the babies started crying again and with Nabila and another woman, they climbed the stairs trying to calm down their little ones.
A few hours later, day broke, and the storm had finally calmed down, no thunder anymore but rain and wind were still going strong, though less than last night. Dozens and dozens of walkers were still entering by the house despite the uninterrupted efforts of Rosita and Lydia who managed to keep them on the first floor. They couldn't go any further than the stairs where the children and a few adults were hiding. Anna had noticed Judith and Gracie were missing and she had no idea where they could have gone but it couldn't have been far. Dianne had realized that two and she went in the staircase to tell Rosita and Lydia about it. Having to care for her baby, Anna stayed with Nabila and the others, safe in the room and Adam slept on her chest like everything was fine. She wished she could be in his place, just napping.
Tumblr media
Calm had come back in Alexandria. It had almost been a week that the other survivors went away to find food. In all that time, Anna had been longing for the return of her father and Alden. She couldn’t wait to see them again after so much worry. She wanted to hold them in her arms and see Alden smile at Adam. Once they would be back, they could finally start the renovation of the camp again. The corspes of the walkers were put in piles and burned off. Trees had fallen and there were lots of damages caused by the wind, but it was over. Anna carried Adam outside when she saw Maggie, Daryl and Gabriel in the distance. She didn’t take another look and walked at a quick pace, right after Judith who jumped in Daryl’s arms. Maggie reunited with her son and Anna looked around, still waiting for Alden and her father to show up but this bad feeling that she had right before they left came back. When Maggie finally stepped towards her silently, Anna handed Adam to the woman who helped Nabila and her care for the kids during the storm.
“Where are they? Where’s Alden? Where’s my dad?” She was asking the questions but her brain was catching up with reality and so her eyes were beginning to feel with tears. Maggie softly put her hands on her shoulders. Anna had never felt such compassion and empathy from Maggie before, which only made her more worried.
“Negan didn’t want me to kill him, and he thought you might be better off without him—”
“What?” She shook her head, looking around and crossing Gabriel, Daryl and Carol’s gaze and they looked like they already knew what Maggie was telling her. She couldn’t believe her dad left her on her own. He abandoned her and it was once among so many others that she could no longer count them. “Alden— where’s Alden? Where is he?”
“A day or so after we left, Alden was attacked.” Maggie swallowed harshly as she was speaking. “Anna… Alden died.”
Anna froze in front of her for a few seconds, but when she processed what she had just told her, the young woman brought her hand to her mouth, muffling the cries that quickly turned into loup sobs and she screamed as if her limbs were being torn from her body. That was exactly how it felt; like her heart was being ripped out of her chest. She fell to her knees and Maggie followed her movement, taking her in her arms. The latter must have been very shaken and touched by Alden’s death for granting her such tenderness, trying to comfort her. Everyone around them was watching, feeling for her but she couldn’t see them. Her eyes were closed shut as she shed enough tears to fill an ocean. This couldn’t possibly be true. A hand on her stomach, her forehead restign against Maggie’s shoulder she wailed, letting out a gut-wrenching cry of pain, grief and anger all at the same time. It was impossible for her to fully realize that she had truly lost Alden and that he was never coming back. She had never been in love before, and he was the one. He loved her too and cared for her and she was so happy to have her own family that she was starting with him, and it was being taken away from her in the worst way possible. Something else that was too much for her to believe after everything she had been through, was that her father abandoned her, again. She never thought she would feel betrayed and left behind by him like she did back when the Saviors still existed. She thought such things were past them, but he left her. It was exactly like the day she found her mom turned. Now, her dad was gone, and her lover too. She was all alone. This cruel world reminded her once again, that people are never there forever.
Still crouched in front of her, Maggie cupped her face in her hands and tried to catch her attention. Anna had been crying her eyes out for almost ten minutes straight and was only getting quiet because she heard Jerry screaming from the gate. Maggie helped her up while everyone looked at their friend, wondering what was going on. Anna took a deep breath, closing her eyes briefly and looked at them grabbing weapons and walking away, climbed the ladder to get onto the watchtower. She got her son back and held him tightly against her chest, trying to trying not to breakdown and cry heartbreakingly like she had just done in front of her peers. One day, she would have to explain him his dad was dead, but right now, he didn’t have the ability to understand such words and it was the worst part. He had just seen his mom scream and cry and had started crying too until she took him in her arms. She stayed with the group while Daryl, Maggie and Jerry held whoever was at their door at gunpoint with their weapons.
“Everyone, get ready!” Daryl shouted. Below, they all looked at each other, not seeing what they were seeing but then they all heard it. This familiar voice. It was Eugene. Which made even more confusing until the gate opened and people in white and striped gear entered Alexandria. The survivor were gathered on the porch of a house right in front of the windmill, still standing despite the fire, while the soldiers that came were loading off ressources for them. The children were seated in the front and, holding Adam, Anna stood next to Aaron, by their right. Eugene stoof before everyone, holding his hat in his hands awkwardly and spoke.
“Ezekiel, Yumiko, and I set out on a journey. Charged ourselves with finding hope in our darkest of days. Suffice to say, we hit the proverbial jackpot. It’s probably best that I step aside so you can all hear it from the horse’s mouth as it were.” He ended his introduction speech and let another man step in his place. Anna was staring at him, frowning. Her eyes were still a little swollen and bloodshot from her break down. She already didn’t really like the man’s face. She didn’t like this stupid, sufficient smile on his face. “I give you Mr. Lance Hornsby, diplomatic reprentative of The Commonwealth.”
“Hello. I’m Lance. Thank you for allowing us into your home. I must say I am impressed with everything you’ve built here and what I’ve heard of your other communities. But it’s clear…” He briefly looked around him. “you’ve fallen on hard times and that is where The Commonwealth iw more than willing to help. If you remain, we can provide labor and material to help you build back all you’ve lost. However, if any are interested… I do have another, potentially more interesting choice to offer.”
Tumblr media
6 MONTHS LATER
Anna lied in a hospital bed, alone in her room, staring at the ceiling. She frowned, closing her eyes as she held her stomach, curling up on the side, taking deep breaths in. She had been told she was at around eight months of pregnancy; apparently she shouldn’t have had labor start a month early but there she was. Contractions had started last night, and they were getting way stronger, regular and closer together. The pressure in her back was increasing. It felt very strange and heavily uncomfortable more than it hurt. It was the most painful when the contraction hit. She was silently crying, wishing Alden would be here, or her dad, but one died and the other abandoned her. She had no one, or so she thought. She lifted her head upon hearing a couple knocks on the door. A nurse came in along with Carol and Ezekiel, with whom she was living now that she had moved to The Commonwealth. Carol had been somewhat of a mother figure for the young woman and she was very grateful of her and Ezekiel’s support. She was very lonely in her new home, and it most definitely didn’t feel like home at all. Especially without her dad by her side, but it had been her decision to come here, maybe out of anger and spite, but still.
She exhaled loudly as she turned on her back, a hand still on her stomach and Ezekiel and Carol came by her side while the nurse checked a few things. She gave Anna some water and she drank it as if she hadn’t drank in months. Her throat felt dry.
“How are you feeling?” Carol asked holding her free hand in hers, Ezekiel by his side. Anna let her head roll on the pillow and looked at them, trying to sketch a smile, wiping off the few tears that rolled on her cheeks.
“I’m fine… I guess.”
“We'll be right next to you, okay? We aren't going anywhere.” The both of them knew that she was alone and had no one but them to rely on and she was happy they were there for her now that she needed them.
“Thank you, Ezekiel.” She winced for a second when she felt a sudden pain. “Thank you, Carol.”
They grabbed a couple chairs and sat just a couple feet from her. The nurses than came near Anna, wearing sterile gloves on her hands and a friendly smile on her face and after talking with her patient, she proceeded to check if she was dilating correctly, asking her to describe how she was feeling. After so much waiting and just taking in the pain, she finally reached the 10 centimetres and felt the urge to push. She declined an epidural; as if this was going to prove anything, or maybe was it just because of her lack of knowledge of how painful it was going to be but she was ready to take it. Maybe was it because she was in a safe space like an hospital where if they were any complications, she would have less risk to die than if she was delivering in Alexandria but now, she was getting to the heart of the matter. The baby she made with Alden was almost here. There was some excitation thrown into this mix of anxiety and pain. The nurse had been joined by another at that point and she was listening to them as they told her to either push, moment during which she would let deep grunting sounds and yell, sometimes letting a high-pitched cry out because of the pain or take a few deep breaths and do it all over again, all during which she held one of Carol's and one of Ezekiel's hands, grinding their fingers under her grip. For a little over three hours, she alternated between pushing as best she could and breathing. Her face oozed with sweat and was marked by the grimaces of pain she had made but she let out a heavy sigh when she felt the baby finally pass and let her head fall back for a second. Before she could really see her baby, she had to push out the afterbirth, which made a weird, squishy sound as it came out but then it was finally over. She was exhausted like she had never been before. Carol ran a cool wipe over her face and helped her drink a sip of water. Anna then slightly straightened up, looking over at the nurse holding her baby after it had been cleaned up.
“It's a beautiful little girl.” She told her with a smile as she approached to hand over the child to her mother. Anna was completely worn out but she held her to her chest with a tender smile dawning her face, tears filling her eyes.
“How are you going to name her?” Ezequiel wondered.
“I’m going to name her Lucille… Lucille Smith.” She softly touched the infant’s face with her finger. The baby girl slept in her arms, opening and closing her tiny mouth.

AN ~ I like this idea a lot! Just the thought of Daryl helping her clean up and take care of her after something like this just makes me melt. ps- Sorry for the inactiveness lately, April has already been such a crazy month for me and I've sadly had little to no time to write. But I'll definitely start getting back on track soon. Hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
The weather was hot, sticky, and humid. Your hair was a frizzy mess, sticking up everywhere as you worked in the miserable weather. You were sweating in places you didn’t even think were possible to sweat from. Bottom line was, you were miserable.
The bad mood that was embedded in you only seemed to grow as the day dragged on longer and longer. It was bad enough that your group joined this new community in the first place, having to live with all of these complete strangers after everything you had been through with your family. But what seemed to make it even worse, was this community had some high expectations upon your arrival. The leader, Deanna, made it very clear that she wanted each and every one of you working like dogs in order to do your part just like everyone else.
Meanwhile her sons were sitting in their air conditioned houses without lifting a damn finger.
Though you didn’t mind putting in the work, in fact, that was all you did your whole life. You were never handed a damn thing, needing to learn to find your own way in life and work for everything you got instead of being spoiled rotten. But again, you didn’t mind. The only thing that bugged you was that there were clearly a few favorites that got special treatment. Though you weren’t just talking about Deanna’s sons.
For the past couple of days you had been scheduled to work with a small group of others that you tried to play nice with. And for the most part, they all seemed friendly enough, willing to pitch in and do the part they were told to complete. Everyone…except for this one bitch who seemed to love getting a rise out of you.
You didn’t know her name, you couldn’t be bothered to learn it. But that didn’t mean the urge for punching her in her stupid, fake ass face wasn’t growing the longer you were in the same vicinity. She didn’t do a damn thing other than tell every other person what to do. And she always seemed to make it her mission to get under your skin at least once a day to really add to your sour mood, really wanting to see how far she could push you. But you, of course, always did nothing. It’s not because you weren’t capable of defending yourself, but you knew even one screw up could get you, and possibly the rest of your family kicked out of here.
You didn’t want to take that chance. After all, this whole opportunity and hard work was the chance to prove that you were all worthy to stay within the thick, sturdy walls they had built. You didn’t want to screw it up for yourself, but you especially didn’t want to screw it up for anyone else. Which is why you kept to yourself for the most part, only smiling politely to the ones who showed you even an ounce of kindness as they passed by with a friendly greeting. Other than that your eyes just stayed down, in hopes that somehow the day would go by faster that way.
You and a few others were currently in the large garden that was placed practically directly in the middle of the community, instructed to pick the fruits and vegetables that were ripe enough to bring back to the pantry. The job was simple enough, knowing that when this last basket of yours was full, you would take everything back, wash them off, and place them in the right sections before finally heading back to your new home. You could practically hear the cool shower calling your name from all the way over here.
Though subconsciously, your gaze traveled up a few different times to keep an eye out for Daryl, seeing if he was maybe passing the area. You didn’t necessarily know the job he was given for the day, but what you did know was that it was hot as fuck outside. And seeing Daryl with his arms exposed, the signature leather vest, and sweat glistening off of him…the sight would surely make your day ten times better than how it was going.
But everytime you did a subtle scan, he was nowhere to be found, and you couldn’t help but sigh a bit dramatically as all you wanted was to take him home and use that last bit of energy you had left.
“Hey!”
You were snapped out of your lustful daze suddenly when you heard a familiar voice from the other end of the space, seeing the one blonde bitch who wouldn’t get off your back, her face scowling into a glare.
You raised your arms up from your slightly crouched position, “What?”
“I can see you slacking off from all the way over here, get back to work!” she called with her hands sassily on her hips.
You sent her a bitter smile before ducking your head back down in attempts to pull yourself together, “Oh, I’ll get back to work.” you spoke under your breath, “Work on shoving this foot up your ass.” you grumbled as you began picking a few more ripe strawberries.
A few minutes of peace passed, moving down the line as you scanned for any more things that were ready to be picked off the vine. Your small basket sat by your feet as it was nearly filled to the brim with the amount of fruit you collected over the past hour or so. That is…until it wasn’t.
Out of the corner of your eye you could see someone’s shadow coming from your left as whoever it was seemed to just be passing by. But the sound of their foot coming in contact with the wooden basket right beside you is what caused your gaze to snap up, already knowing who the hell it was. Her blonde hair blowing behind her as she didn’t even stop to look at the mess she made was kind of a dead giveaway.
You shot up to your feet as annoyance began to quickly overtake you, causing you to open your mouth before you even got a chance to think twice. “What the fuck?” you called after her.
She turned around on instinct, as if she was expecting you to say something, a small smirk on her face as she shrugged. “What?”
You pressed your lips together as your annoyance grew, stepping up closer to her so you could keep the conversation quiet, “What the hell is your problem? You don’t think I can tell you’re doing this shit on purpose?”
“Oh I know you can.” she said with a bitchy tilt of her head, her arms coming to cross over her chest, “I’m just wondering when the fuck you’re going to get a clue.”
“Well, why don’t you just spell it out for me, because I’m getting pretty tired of dealing with the same bullshit from you.” you stated bluntly.
She scoffed, “You and your grubby little group don’t belong here.” she spat harshly, “None of you are what we need for this community, in fact, you’re only tearing us down. I don’t even know why Deanna let you people in here in the first place.”
Her words caused your eyebrows to fly up in utter surprise. You expected her to attack you, shoot insults directed toward you. But you never expected in a million years that she would have the audacity to go after your family the way she did with little to no reason at all.
And in the end, that’s what pushed you over the edge as you laughed at her, not needing to come up with a single response as you had a few other things in mind.
Daryl was on the other end of the community, patrolling around the streets when he heard the sudden commotion. At first he couldn’t quite pinpoint what was going down, only seeing a swarm of people flooding toward one area where lots of shouts and panicked voices were coming from. Curiosity eventually got the better of him as his brows furrowed in confusion, his pace picking up as he approached the gardens, opening the white gates to step inside.
His eyes squinted as he could tell there was some sort of fight breaking out, the people surrounding them either cheering them on, or trying to rip them apart. He leaned from side to side, trying to see who was in the middle of it all as he silently prayed he was wrong about what he originally assumed. But then there was a small parting in the crowd, allowing him to catch a glimpse in between them, and his face dropped.
Some random guy was holding you back as you attempted to hit the blonde girl at the other end of the circle they created, clawing out of his grip every so often to get another swing in while she cried. Daryl then didn’t waste another second, harshly shoving his way through the crowd to get to you in attempts to stop you from doing anymore damage. It was almost like he couldn’t get to you fast enough, either that, or you were just quick when it came to nearly tearing her head off.
“Hey!” he shouted once he was close enough, pulling you out of the man’s grasp in attempts to hold you back himself, “Stop!”
You hardly even heard his voice, your ears ringing as you continued to try and pry his hands off of you, desperately trying to swing again as the woman sobbed. Her nose bloody and a bruise forming on her right cheek. She clearly couldn’t fight for shit considering she had such a big mouth.
Daryl groaned as he yanked you back harshly, “Damnit (Y/N), I said stop!” he shouted once more, his voice enough to silence everyone in an instant.
The familiar voice then finally registered with you as well, whipping your head around quickly to see him, smoke nearly coming out of his ears. Your face softened as you instantly came to the realization of the damage you just caused, the potential outcome of your actions suddenly terrifying you.
Your head shook slightly as you tried to speak, “I-”
“Get back to the house.”
His tone was firm, but somehow still held a bit of gentleness. You sighed as you took yourself out of his hold, not needing to be told twice as you slowly began to walk out of the crowded area. Now seeing the amount of people that witnessed your meltdown, you suddenly wanted to crawl into a hole and die, feeling all their watchful eyes on you as Daryl quickly ushered you the rest of the way out. The last thing you barely caught a glimpse of, was a few others crowding around the blonde as she continued to cry her eyes out with her beaten face.
There wasn’t a single word spoken between the two of you. Just silence. And it was killing you.
He didn’t utter a word, only gesturing you into the bathroom for you to sit at the edge of the tub, before pulling out a first aid kid from the closet. Your brows furrowed in confusion as she hadn’t laid a hand on you, but then your eyes traveled down to your own hands, seeing how cut up and bloody they were. The pain hadn’t even registered to you, you hardly felt the sting at all as if your adrenaline was still pumping fast through your system.
Daryl wordlessly kneeled down in front of you, taking your hands with such softness in his touch as he cleaned you up with precision. You could tell he was trying to be as careful as he could, despite the fact that he was probably upset. Hell, the whole group would probably be upset with you for a while, over something that you could now never take back. Something that you could never undo. All because you couldn’t keep your head on straight.
You were forced to think about it even more as the silence only lingered, playing the imagines back over and over again in your mind. You wanted to say it was worth it, to see her actually get somewhat of a taste of her own bitter medicine, knowing now she would probably never fuck with you again. But the fate of the future, what would come next, still weighed heavily on you as it was clearly unknown.
You then sighed softly as you looked down at him, “I…I’m sorry.” your voice spoke barely above a whisper.
He nodded as he kept his eyes down, finishing up your left hand as he wrapped it in some bandages, “I know ya are.”
“You don’t know the things she was saying…what she’s been doing ever since we fucking got here. God…I know I shouldn’t have taken it that far, but that bitch got what she deserves, trust me.” you spoke bitterly, trying to convince yourself more than you were trying to convince him.
Daryl’s eyes then glanced up to you, a small smile on his lips as he nodded again, “I know.”
Your brows furrowed in both confusion and surprise, “You’re…you’re not mad?”
“Why would I be mad?” he asked, his voice a lot more gentle than it was before. But then again you could only assume it was all just the heat of the moment.
You shook your head softly, “I don’t know…” you muttered, glancing down to your hands as you slightly examined them, mostly to avoid his eyes as you knew he would be able to see right through you.
And he did. His brows furrowed as a few seconds of silence passed before he spoke again, “Yeah ya do. You just don’t wanna say it.”
A heavy sigh passed through your lips as you looked back up at him, “I just…I know that doing that was a big mistake.”
His eyes softened as he heard the timidness in your tone, “Everyone makes mistakes, sweetheart.” he said as he raised his hand to tuck some hair behind your ear, “It’s alright.”
“No…that’s not what I mean.” you said with a shake of your head, “I…I fucked up…I fucked up everything. Once Deanna finds out what happened, once she finds out that we can’t work with her people, she’ll kick us out. And then we’ll be back on the road without any food, or water, or anything. We barely made it last time, I-”
“Hey.” Daryl interrupted you softly, raising his hands to gently grip your forearms, “What are ya talkin about? None of that’s gonna happen.”
“But she’s already weary of us, we’re the big, scary outside people. The second she realizes that we won’t be able to fit in here, there’s no way she’ll let us stay.”
The man in front of you couldn’t help but smirk, which at first confused you, but then you found yourself rolling your eyes. “The big, scary outside people?” he repeated with a light chuckle.
You gave him a pointed look, “This is serious.”
“I know, I know.” he assured, “But I also know you’ve been bustin yer ass damn near everyday tryin to prove that you can be trusted here. That we can be trusted here. So…I think right now, you just need to take a second and breathe…okay?”
You stared at him for a moment before swallowing a bit thickly and nodding your head, taking a deep breath in attempts to calm your nerves. It felt like your brain was scattered all over the place and you knew he was right in saying that you just needed to fucking chill out for a second. You still had your worries about the outcome, but for some reason the longer you looked at the man sitting in front of you, the more those thoughts started to disappear.
After a few moments of silence, you felt him gently squeeze your arms again as he hadn’t taken his eyes off of you, “Ya got pretty worked up back there, killer. And I don’t think this stress and worryin is helpin. We’re here for a reason…to have a fighting chance. And you just gotta trust that over time, everythin’s just gonna work itself out…no matter what.”
He was so confident in his words, it made you want to feel confident too. It made you want to believe that this would all pass, and you didn’t completely screw up this opportunity like you assumed. Though there was still something else on your mind.
“But what about the fight? I mean…I messed her up pretty bad.”
He simply shrugged, “Good.”
Your eyebrows raised in slight shock, “What?”
“That bitch got what was coming to her. Truth is, ever since ya told me about what’s been goin on, I’ve been dyin for ya to knock some damn sense into her. If anything, I wanted to cheer you on.” he winked.
You couldn’t help but laugh, “Well, you always have been my biggest supporter…” you trailed off as you looked down toward your hands again, “And the best doctor around.”
He hummed with a small smile before grasping your hands gently, raising them up to his mouth to leave a few kisses on the back of your bandaged knuckles as if to seal the healing process.
You smiled a little to yourself at his actions, “So…you really think we’ll be okay?”
“We’ll be just fine.” he muttered as he placed one final kiss on your skin, “It’ll breeze over, people will move on. Cause I think they all kinda know she was the problem to begin with.”
“God, I hope so.” you scoffed, “And even though I kinda lost it…it felt good.” you admitted almost a bit sheepishly.
He chuckled as he pulled at your hands a little, helping you stand back up to your feet as he did, “Looked pretty good too.” he confirmed as he held you close, placing a kiss on top of your head. “I think you could use some kinda award for doin that.”
You smirked as you looked up at him, “Well…I could use a massage.”
He smiled right back at you as he nodded, “Done.”

Summary: Rick Grimes comes to your farm and things quickly grow between you both, will he finally get over Lori (reader is 22, Rick is a dilf)
•Masterlist•
Tumblr media
Rick and his group had been at your family farm for a few weeks now and god has he plagued your mind, he was the hottest man you’ve ever seen, especially when he’s been working outside all day and his skin is glistening it does something to you, but what irks you is his wife…..Lori, you’ve witnessed their fights and he deserved so much better and you were willing to give that
They group were out by their camp while you and your sisters were making breakfast, you heard the door open and in walked the man you’ve been thinking about, his walk over was damn near hypnotizing
“Sweetie?” He asked breaking my you out of your trance, you looked up at his piercing blue eyes and felt yourself become weak
“Yes Rick, is there something you need?” You asked nervous, you’ve only had a few conversations but it still didn’t ease your nerves
“Wondering if you wanna come on a trip to that town near here with me, look for some supplies” you looked over at Beth and Maggie and they were smiling at you knowing your feelings for the sheriff
“Oh…sure when are we leaving?”
“Now while the suns up”
“Okay I’ll go get the horses ready” you smiled excited as you both left the house, he went to get ready as you saddled up the horses
You pulled yourself up in your horse as you held on the the rope of the other and made your way over to a waiting Rick, he had his black button up shirt on, his sleeves pushed up showing his muscular forearms with its prominent veins that made you weak in the knees but you had to try and focus
Rick hoped up onto the horse and looked you over his eyes lingering on your legs, it was a hot Georgia day so you were wear short shorts and a tight tank top
“You ready to go sheriff?” You asked shaking him out of his gaze
He cleared his throat and nodded as you both started to trot off on the horses
“So how’ve you been Rick? You seem stressed” you knew the others of the group really relied on him and put a lot of pressure on his conscience
“Nothing I can’t handle darlin” he smirked
“Of course not, but are you sure you don’t need a stress reliever?” You asked leaning forward a bit looking at him with a boost of confidence, the heat finally getting to you
“What kind of stress relieving are ya thinking about darlin?” He asked looking at you with this look you’ve never seen before even with all the weeks he’s been at your farm
“Anything you want sheriff” you said biting your lip as you finally got to the town, hoping off the horse as you tied her to a post, walking into a pharmacy as Rick quickly followed you
You felt his big hands sneak behind you gripping your waist, sliding down so his fingers were tugging at the hem of your shorts
“Mmm you must been really stressed, what? Your wife can’t help you out?” You asked teasing as you looked up behind you at him as he towered over you
“Can’t look at her like that anymore, not when a sexy thing like you is walking around, these little shorts of yours keep me up at night, thinking of of you tight body as you work in the sun, god I want you darlin” he groaned in your ear feeling him press up against you
“Well good thing for you, I’m here for you to do anything you want, use me Rick” you whined as his hand slipped further down into your shorts
Let’s just say he had a lot of stress to work out on and your body was the perfect relief for him to use…..for hours

୨୧ distant love ୨୧
pairing: Rick Grimes ♡︎ fem!Reader
warnings: ୭̥⋆*。 not edited, rick is taller than the reader, mentions of Lori being assaulted by Shane, and low-key some Lori slander (and praise too)
summary: ʚ Rick has fallen out of Lori and instead falls in love with you ɞ
Words: 1254
part 2
Tumblr media
“I cannot keep you safe,” Rick says angrily. Your group has made it to the CDC, what seemed like a safe haven. “You don't have to Rick. You have a wife and a kid. A whole family, ok?” you said your voice barely above a whisper.
He turned away from you, rubbing his jaw. “Rick, what happened between us can stay a secret forever. You don't have t-to treat me differently or care about me,” you said trying to face Rick head-on.
He started to shake his head no. “What Rick?” you said starting to get angry. Everyone knew what Lori had done to Rick… hooking up with Shane. Something that didn't stop when Rick joined the group. He was frustrated and had pent-up anger.
And there you were on watch with him, just being your kind self. He lost self-control. Try as he might be couldn't deny himself those beautiful moans as he thrusted into you.
He had started to treat you differently. You could tell, Lori could and hell the rest of the group could too. He was much more caring with you, checking your wounds, and giving you extra portions of his food.
There was no doubt he had started to fall for you. Of course, he had. His marriage was falling apart long before the end of the world came, his wife fucking his best friend only made it worse.
You started to fall for him too, you couldn't help it. His strong dominant demeanor, and loving caring father. He had it all. But you knew the moment you said yes to him that there was a high chance of nothing real happening between the two of you.
You chose to ignore that chance.
But here he was now staring at you, jaw tense with anger. He didn't know how he could keep going like this. Feeling his heart squeeze with pain when he couldn't see you. When his arms weren't around yours.
“You cannot keep doing this to me,” he growls, stepping close to you. “Doing what Rick? I have done nothing to you. You came onto me!” I shout at him. He shakes his head and hands his hips. “I never meant to become between you and Lori. I have never ever asked you to love me or care for me ever!” I shout at him.
His face falls. “I was perfectly fine being only a fuck to you,” you said crossing your arms, tears threatening to fall from your eyes. “No. Don't say that about yourself,” he says, stepping up to you again.
You try to blink your tears back. God this was so embarrassing. The truth was you would love to be more to Rick than a hook-up buddy, but he has a family you weren't going to wreck that on a whim. “Please, I'm sorry but I haven't ever tried to make you love me. Ever. Ok? I knew what I was getting myself into, fucking a married man.” you said, crossing your arms.
Rick doesn't say anything, you take that as an answer enough. You let your hands drop to your sides, turning towards the door. His hand lands on your arm grabbing it. You look up at him, his eyes are full of sorrow and pain.
Your stomach turned as you knew what was going to happen next. He gingerly stepped towards you, you couldn't look him in the eyes. His hands moved towards your arms pulling you close to his chest.
He leaves a gingerly placed miss on the top of your head near your hairline. His right hand snakes up to your hair as his left-hand wraps around your waist. You tilt your head up to meet him for the kiss.
He whimpers in your mouth exploring your mouth. You shudder at his touch, pulling away from his kiss. “Rick we shouldn't… Lori and Carl… they aren't that far..” you say looking back up at him.
He knows you right? No matter how much he wants it to not be true, he shouldn't fuck you when his wife or child could find you. “Come find me tonight,” you whisper in his ear, before darting out of his room.
You walked down the hall of the CDC. You heard a commotion up ahead. You looked into the rec room and the sight horrified you.
Shane was attempting to assault Lori. You didn't like Lori, and Lori didn't like you. Nothing would ever stop you from helping her right now. You run up behind Shane grabbing his hair as best you could and dragging him off of her.
Between Lori pushing him off and your strength you're able to rip him away.
Shane lands on the ground glaring at both of you. “Leave!” you shout at him, fear and anger pulsing through your body. “Now! And if I ever ever catch you pulling this shit again I will fucking kill you.” I threaten. “Yeah alright,” he mumbles, sitting up and leaving in a huff.
You turn your direction to the terrified woman behind you. “You're ok, it's ok,” you mumble, catching her in an embrace. “Oh god.” she whimpers out falling into your arms, her sobs racking through her body. Tears spilling on your shirt.
You silently rub her back trying to calm her. She exhales pulling away from you, using the back of her hands to wipe her tears. “I'm ok, I'm ok honey,” she says looking at you with a warm smile. You felt like killing someone.
This wasn't fair for her. You felt sick for even being mad at her for what she did with Shane. It's clear to you that this wasn't what you thought it was. A sick man had used the grief of a woman and got into her pants.
There was absolutely nothing fair about that. “I'm so sorry Lori,” you said with pity in your voice and eyes. “Oh don't worry about me, I will be just fine,” she says with a fake smile. You nod not believing her. “Ok well if you need me tonight just tell me,” you say, patting her arm.
You felt so sick. You felt sick for Lori, for hating her, and for fucking Rick. She deserved her husband. You stole him from her. You felt ashamed. You needed to push these feelings down.
You turn to leave her walking to the exit of the room. “Y/n?” she called. You turn on your heel, “yes?” you ask, looking at her. “I know,” she says in a quiet voice. You felt bile fill your throat.
“My husband he-” she cuts herself off with a sad smile. He wasn't really her husband anymore huh? “Rick h-he is a good man. Take care of him for me will you? Do what I was never able to.” she says with a very sad smile.
Your face contorted with pain. “No Lori, I-I can't do that to you, to your family,” you say, putting your hand up. “No, listen to me y/n. He loves you, I see it every day. I didn't want to at first but I have no choice but to know ok?” she says, nodding her head.
All you can do is sigh. You turn away from her, You walk down the hall preparing to go back to your room. Rick stands outside his door “What's going on?” he asks, looking down at you, you stop slightly in front of him. “Ask your wife.” you quip walking down the hall.

His girls
Tumblr media
Daryl Dixon x Original female characters.
Two new girls find a dog, and their very handsome owner.
This is a 3rd person fic featuring my TWD self insert Sherry, and @murdadixon's Tabby. No xReader for this one.
🐺 🐺 🐺
Daryl couldn't find his dog.
No matter how he called or whistled around the street, the damn mutt would not show his face. So Daryl set out to find him by scent. He quickly caught on and followed his trail around the block, only to round the corner and find him in the front yard of the new arrivals.
He was belly up on the grass, wagging his tail and being cuddled and scratched by the two girls that Aaron had brought in yesterday on a quick one-man scout trip. As his partner he had gotten updated on the fact but he hadn't seen them in person yet.
But they were good with Dog, so that was a bonus. Now he wouldn't have to always ask Carol to babysit him if he went out for too long.
Daryl stepped up to the girls and cleared his throat, having them both snap their heads up and quickly remove their hands from the animal.
"We're sorry, sir!" The blonde one spoke fast, hands up in apology.
"Yeah. Didn't know he belonged to someone." The redhead added, mimicking the other's stance.
A low chuckle left the man before he spoke. "S'alrigh. He weren't respondin' but now I get why tha' is." He kept standing around with his hands in his pockets as he couldn't help but notice the way thw girls were staring him up and down.
"Ya wanna babysit 'em when I go out huntin'?" The two quickly agreed. Having a dog around would surely make settling into the new community a lot easier.
"Name's Daryl, by the way." They all exchanged names and Daryl gave them some more info on the community and names, together with descriptions of people to find in case they needed something and set off to prepare for his hunting trip.
Back inside the house the two were talking, guessing and questioning things about their new home, but also happily gushing over the very handsome dog owner from earlier.
Some time later a woman came by, offering to take them to the community's inventory space and let them pick out some clothes and necessities. "Hi, you're Carol, right?" The lady was happily greeted from the kitchen by the red haired woman, only for the other one to peek her head around the living room corner and chime in too. "Yeah! Daryl told us to find you if we needed anything."
Again, the duo was met with a kind smile but taken a little by surprise as one of them quipped. "He your husband?"
Carol put a hand to her mouth as she laughed. "Oh, no dear. He's my best friend. He came by to make sure I'd check in on you. See if you were doing okay while you wait on Deanna's word."
The girls ended up tagging along on a small tour of the community, being shown the larger important areas like the infirmary, inventory and the pantry. Before they went on their trek back to the house they went to pick up their needed items.
Later that day they were met by Deanna, who officially welcomed them into the community and would be assigning them both a job in the upcoming days.
As the first week ended, Sherry, the blonde girl, had gotten a job at the inventory, repairing any damaged pieces of clothing that came in or patching up curtains, blankets and towels.
Tabby, the redhead had gotten a job at the pantry next door to help Olivia with her job that was becoming a little too much for just one person, making sure inventory was kept and no one took too much off the shelves.
The girls stayed together that way and quickly became a part of the community.
Thanks to quickly becoming friends with Daryl by dogsitting so often, they were given the option to live with him, since after Carol moved to the Kingdom, his house was almost empty anyways.
The three of them talked about it and agreed it'd work out fine and within the week after that they both moved in.
Two weeks in their new community and they were living with the gorgeous old man and his adorable dog.
"Don't think hitting the jackpot was still a thing during the apocalypse." Tabby called from the stovetop.
"Besides stumbling on a truckload of food, you mean." Sherry called back from the couch, where she was frankensteining a warm hoodie out of old scraps.
The two laughed around together until Daryl came home, announcing he'd be leaving on a multiple day hunting trip. Something about seeing better at night with the full moon up.
The girls agreed to care for Dog while he was gone, and he brought back quite the amount of game.
And the next full moon he left again, and brought back a nice haul.
The next moon, the same tale.
They also learned he was allergic to chocolate. Carol brought cookies on her visits and made sure to tell them not to eat the ones without chocolate since they were specifically made for Daryl.
"I'm pretty sure I saw him snack on a raw piece of squirrel when he was cutting one up last week." Tabby sat on the couch with her nose in a book.
"I'm almost entirely convinced he's a werewolf." Sherry shoved a notepad over the book.
"Look, all signs are there." Her voice was a little too excited, but the redhead had to admit her friend had a very clear analysis written down and all points did come together to the same conclusion.
"So, what now? You wanna sit him down and show him your notes?"
The blonde shrugged. "I mean, why not?"
The worst thing that could happen was her being wrong and things being awkward for a while. But she was so convinced she was being right that she couldn't see that happen.
So the next time he got ready for his hunting trip Sherry spoke up.
"You know you can just tell us you're a werewolf, right? No need to use weird excuses for your full moon runs."
Daryl had stopped dead in his tracks at her words. Obsessively retracing his steps to figure out how they could have figured it out. But now his clearly panicked state gave him away, and sighed in defeat. "Aigh', how'dya figure it out?"
Before Sherry could talk, Tabby had jumped up. "Wait, for real?" She let out an excited squeal. "Show us, pleasee?"
Daryl took a step back, still stuck being caught so off guard by two women who only knew him for a few months.
"She means we'd love to see you be your real self, no need to hide when we're around. Snack on squirrels if you're hungry, we don't care." A notepad covered in detailed writing was handed to him and he looked it over. His brows raising with how impressed he was she had managed to gather all this info before coming to the right conclusion.
"M'still goin' on tha hunt. Talk after, yeah?" Two nods let him know it was all good, and he went out with a much more calm feeling this time around, knowing he'd have them waiting back at home no matter what.
So he hunted in the surrounding forest, now feeling like he was being truly useful and not disgusting for once.
Not that he had issues with being a werewolf, he just hated always having to be careful and hide it all the time.
But now he could be home whenever he wanted, even when his mind howled at him and he had a hard time hiding his claws and fangs.
He hunted more this run. Brought back two deer and a nice stash of rabbits and squirrels. He almost caught a boar too but he let it go to get a stray walker away from his deer.
Back home the two women had prepared him a nice meal as a peace offering. An apology for catching him so off guard before he left.
Never in his life had he felt so welcome, but this was his home now. Him and his two girls.
His girls.
No, the girls that he shared a home with. Not his girls.
But they were his girls. His mind told him so. That night in bed he dreamt. He watched as they cuddled up with Dog, giving him head scratches and belly rubs as his vision slowly distorted and he saw his own shifted self in place of his canine companion. The blonde rubbed her tits against his muzzle as the other stroked his cock as she rubbed herself on his thigh.
He woke up panting, feeling like he was about to shift. From a goddamn wet dream..
He spent longer in his downstairs bedroom that morning. Although they said he'd be food to walk around how he wanted, he didn't want his fangs to be on display or his claws to be out but no matter what he tried it wouldn't fade. At least he wasn't painfully hard anymore.
He gave himself a pep talk before heading up to the main floor and praying the girls were out already.
"Hey Dee, wow." Tabby gave the man a once over, seeing his clawed hand as he raked it through his messy hair and offering him the drink she had gotten for herself. "Rough night?"
Daryl only grumbled in response before downing the drink and heading out to the back porch for a smoke.
And of course there he ran into the other cause of his annoyance. Sherry happily cooing at his dog as she brushed out his tangled fur.
"You look like the full moon hasn't decided to leave just yet, dude. Why not sleep in?" She suggested as she followed his figure sitting down and lighting up a smoke and grumbling some more. He disliked speaking with his fangs out.
"You can always just shift all the way to let out the frustration. You know, like a reset button." It wasn't something he had thought of before, and was now contemplating to do so.
"Just let us watch. Tabby'd be over the moon."
Oh how he hated that they were getting what they wanted and it being good for him too.. But he agreed and led her back inside and calling Tabby over.
"S'yer lucky day I guess. Sit." And without question they sat.
In front of them Daryl had dropped to his knees and let the change take over. Deep, growling breaths filled the room as he became more beast than man in mere seconds and eventually was fully transformed. He watched his housemates on the couch as they stared, wide eyed and squirming. Thighs rubbing together as they stared. Downward?
His cock stood at full attention thanks to the source of his frustration.
But neither of the girls was staring in disgust.
No, the absolute opposite.
They were interested. Their arousal was clear as day and he wasn't entirely sure how to respond.
"Want help with that, big boy?"
"I'll go lock the doors."
Both women were on their feet within seconds as Daryl sat there, processing the whole situation but not really getting to before he was being touched all over. "Just move us to where you want us, yeah?" A soft nod let them know he understood as he laid on his back.
One large paw went to tug at Tabby's sweats as the other one pawed at Sherry's top.
The hint was clear as they undressed and waited for his next order.
Within moments he had them both settled like he saw in his dreams. His thigh soaked as one grinded herself down on it and a wet pair of tits against his muzzle, his thick tongue lapping at her nipples and a rough paw pad rubbing at her clothed pussy.
Their combined moans and the feeling of their hands around his shaft were so good it didn't last long before he spilled all over his stomach. He helped them both over the edge as well before relaxing back onto the floor and pulling them both close to him.
From that moment on his two housemates did become His girls. A mutual agreement between the three of them.
More fun was had whenever one of them had a bad day, or when they were all in the mood. In both human and shifted form neither of the girls backed down and had their fun with him.
He really had hit the jackpot.
He was almost done with the day, stepping onto his porch as he caught one of the girls' voice saying something very interesting.
He knew he shouldn't, bjt he couldn't help but eavesdrop
"Man.. I wish I could have his puppies." Tabby slumped on the couch, tired after a long workday.
"I mean, if you want I can carry it for ya?" Sherry came in too, offering her a plate of food. "Would you do that? Thought that shit scared you so much." The redhead happily chowed down on the meal, offering thanks between spoonfuls.
"Babies? Never in my life. Puppies? No problem with those." She offered her friend a kind smile. "Besides, that's what friends do. Being surrogate moms for their besties? We'll have to go ask around for a breast pump and a bottle though. So you can at least bottle feed the furball."
Daryl had a hard time containing his excitement, but managed to calmly smoke another cigarette before going into the house, pretending he didn't hear any of that.
Between then and the day Daryl left for his next full moon hunting trip Tabby and Sherry puzzled together a list of needed items, from vitamins to the breast pump and bottle, to maybe some nice stretchy pants or maternity clothes.
All while Daryl waited for them to ask him about the one thing that had been screwing with his focus for over a week now.
With his stuff packed and ready to leave he was stopped by a hand with a piece of paper smacked against his arm, a flushed Tabby beside him who hid her face behind her hair.
"W'sthis?" He took the paper and went to unfold but another smacked hand stopped him. "List for Sherry and me. Please open it when you're outside the walls, okay?"
Daryl mumbled something about strange women and their words, but he agreed and pocketed the paper. He kissed her goodbye and set out to find Sherry at her workplace before leaving on his trip.
Sherry was easily found in her workplace and was informed of the secret little list he was given, said his goodbyes and now left for the gates.
As soon as Daryl was out on the main road he stopped his bike and took the small paper from his pocket. Its contents had been mulling around in his mind ever since he touched it.
But he wouldn't have guessed this was how his girls would have played their cards.
The list was full of baby stuff. And underlined in red sat those two things he heard them talk about.
His hunting would have to be delayed for a bit. His first stop was Hilltop.
He thanked the baby doctor for his donation and caught up with Maggie before setting out again, leaving a large deer at their gate as a thanks that same night. He hunted and stashed his kills for the remainder of his time and took quick runs into nearby areas to scout for the listed items.
He had a large backpack with his girls' items and a good amount of meat gathered at the edge of the woods near the Alexandria gates.
His excitement to return home was clear as he returned earlier than usual, dropping the animals that hadn't been retrieved yet off at the pantry and heading for his house immediately after.
Welcomed by his girls he dumped the bag on the coffee table, right in front of them.
"Ya girls planned on askin' me nicely?"
It was clear they weren't gonna say a word, so he was just gonna ask a million yes or no questions even though he knew the answers already.
He found it crazy how they could so openly talk about it with each other but as soon as he asked they'd be all flustered and shy about it.
"So ya want pups." A set of nods meant yes.
"And yer too scared ta ask?" More nodding.
He gave his next question some thought. He wasn't needed in the community for the next two days as those were his given resting days. And since they were both home it meant they had nowhere to be either.
"Wanna head upstairs?"
Sherry shrugged and got up to follow while Tabby stayed behind.
"You too," Daryl stopped at the bottom of the stairs. "Yer as much part'a this as her."
Daryl treated his girls equally. Always making sure they got just as many kisses and cuddles. Naptime was always shared and he always made sure both of them were all the way asleep and comfortable before passing out in between them at night.
But of course he also made sure they both came at least twice, three times each before finishing himself. Twice ofcourse.
And that's how every moment they had together was spent for the next week. Up in the largest bedroom, round after round untill Tabby was too sore and fucked out, and Sherry was pregnant.
Daryl had permanently moved into the main house now, staying at their side whenever he wasn't out.
It was a known fact Daryl wasn't human, but that was all good as long as he stayed human within the walls and outside his home. And people had already started catching on about the two new girls being together with him as he never cared to hide  how he felt for them. Some found it weird and had their opinions, but they knew better than to voice them openly.
But now one of them was pregnant, and people were concerned about her.
Did she want it? Was it planned? Was it even healthy? Wasn't the other one jealous?
Those questions didn't last long, though. They faded quickly after a little incident at the pantry when Sherry, with her bump clearly visible by now, came to pick up some extra food and Tabby and her overheard whispers coming from others nearby.
Tabby was working so she could only kindly request they take their items and leave, but Sherry and her hormones weren't having it and snapped at them, making a bigger scene than necessary but not caring at all because someone dared to badmouth her family and she wasn't gonna let that slide.
She had rounded the shelf in seconds and snapped at the women.
"How about you keep your nose out of our business and spend more time with it up your husband's ass so he won't have to grope a different girl each week huh?"
Tabby hid a laugh behind her hands while the women loudly gasped at the insult.
The offended one huffed. "Well." She puffed out her chest and stood tall. "You two sleep with nasty monsters." She scoffed at the two as the other middle aged, probably high class before, woman backed her up with an even less insulting remark.
Now both of the girls laughed out loud. "Wow she really got us there." The sarcasm dripped off the words like venom. "Yeah, wow. Tabby, why didn't you tell me our man wasn't human?" Their laughs came from deep as they kept talking. "Our sweet, loyal beast." The emphasis on 'loyal' was strong, and a clear jab at the woman's cheating husband.
Daryl had long made his entrance to the scene, staying back with a wide grin on his face as he watched his girls stand up for themselves and tear into the other women with nothing but truths and observations.
Olivia had made her way into the pantry as well, now shooing both duos out of the door. At least Sherry got her items and Tabby now got the rest of the day off.
Their happy giggles continued as they stepped onto the street, Daryl joining them only seconds later. "Yer insane, the both of ya." He fell into step in between them and moved to kiss both their cheeks. "Thanks fer defendin' me. Them old hags dun' like me very much."
It was a fun but tiring event, and the three of them called dog upstairs with them and piled on the bed for cuddles and some much needed rest.
The next month and a half passed quickly. And with some careful communication the trio had made a trip to Hilltop and get an ultrasound done and got the greatest news.
Although it did spike Sherry's anxiety, she was over the moon when the screen showed not one, but two little squirmy pups. "Look at that! One little nugget for both of us in one go!" Tabby happily but cautiously hugged her friend as Daryl shared encouraging words and praise.
The way back home went by a lot quicker with the three all buzzing with excitement.
Luckily there wasn't much more waiting to be done as the last week approached fast.
Bedrest sucked a little less with a dog always at her side and two adorably concerned people in the house making sure she was doing okay. All the time. Up to the second her water broke.
When her contractions had started Daryl had sent Tabby to fetch some items they'd need from the infirmary and got back as fast as possible to not miss anything.
It took almost an entire day but eventually both pups were out and nursing.
With both pups asleep, Sherry laid in bed. She kept nodding off while she tried to focus on pumping some more milk. She didn't want to keep nursing them both and risk them not imprinting on Tabby as their mother.
Tabby, who laid next to her in bed, two pups snuggled against her bare skin.
Daryl was all over the place, cleaning up the mess and making sure there'd be enough food prepped and up for grabs. No matter how bad he wanted to lay in bed with his girls and pups, he was going to make sure every needed task was done before resting.
This went on for days. The girls spending all their time with the pups as Daryl made quick work of needed things and joined them afterwards.
He came from the kitchen with three bowls of stew balanced in his hands and set them out on the coffee table. They were still too hot to eat immediately so he took his time to settle down between his girls who were lovingly feeding their pups, both having picked their favorite momma.
They had really hit the jackpot here in their home in Alexandria.

“You’re ridiculous.” Rick spoke with a scoff.
Daryl’s eyes narrowed slightly at the man, not necessarily because of what he had claimed, but because it almost seemed like he hadn’t listened to him at all.
He already felt a little ashamed going to his friend in the first place to talk about how he was feeling, something the man rarely ever did. But that alone showed how desperate he seemed to be for any kind of advice, willing to put himself out there to express what had been going through his mind recently in hopes of some sort of reassurance.
He didn’t really know what had been going on with him recently, but ever since the group had made it to Alexandria, his insecurities slowly began to eat him alive. He started to take note of his appearance a little more, now that they actually had mirrors in the houses provided for them, seeing for himself how much older and tired he really was. It shouldn’t have bugged him as much as it did, but yet, it seemed to be all he thought about. And that constant loop of thoughts only traveled to another, thinking about how much living on the road seemed to age him, while the woman he was madly in love with stayed so young and beautiful.
She was absolutely perfect, not a single flaw, while he on the other hand had countless ones that he couldn’t seem to just get over and ignore. But that wasn’t the only aspect about her that seemed to cloud over his mind. She was quite the extrovert, making friends everywhere she turned as she was constantly radiating such a good and friendly energy. It even drew him in towards her from the start, falling victim to her charming personality. Though it wasn’t her kindness that made him a little more self conscious than before; it was the fact that a few younger men had obviously taken a liking to her natural sweetness ever since they moved here.
Now he knew that she would never cheat on him, the thought never even crossed her mind, but that still didn’t stop his jealousy from bubbling over to a point of no return. Wanting to beat the shit out of any guy who looked at her for just a little too long. He wasn’t blind by any means, and some of them had a hard time hiding the sneaky glances they were taking at his woman whilst she was just in her own little world.
Though the longer he seemed to stew over it for the months and months they had lived there, it made him start to wonder if maybe she would be better off with someone else. Someone a bit younger, more energetic, more outgoing. Someone that matched her personality better than he did. It was no secret that they were polar opposites, but he always imagined that they completed each other in a way, not even thinking twice about it. However, now that he had all the time in the world to think, it slowly started to consume him, thinking more about how he didn’t deserve her at all. But hell, maybe no one deserved her.
The man then seemed to snap out of his thoughts, scoffing toward Rick who was looking at him with a small smile, “Man, m’ bein serious.” he grumbled.
“So am I.” Rick shrugged, stuffing his hands into his pockets as he tilted his head a bit at him, “I really don’t think you have anything to worry about man. You two are always attached at the hip, she loves you…I think you might just be in your own head about it.”
He sighed heavily as he thought to himself for another moment, his thumbnail in his mouth as he contemplated why he was confiding in Rick in the first place. At this point he had it in his head that the man was just telling him what he wanted to hear. “I dunno…” he eventually muttered in response.
Rick only shook his head, “You shouldn’t be so focused on this. You’ve always known how nice she is, everyone loves her-”
“Man, that ain’t the problem. I already told ya that.” Daryl interrupted with irritation in his voice.
“I know…I know.” he assured, “I guess I just don’t see the connection of how you came up with the idea that she suddenly deserves someone “better.”
The archer shook his head with a light scoff, “Seein her talkin with those guys…something kinda just clicked that she should be with someone more fit for her…” he trailed off for a moment, before pathetically shrugging his shoulders again, “I dunno.”
Rick honestly couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Although, he could, he knew that Daryl sometimes got like this, thinking he didn’t deserve the things that he was given. But he never thought he would be standing here listening to him speak about how you would be better off with someone else. Anyone who even caught a glimpse of the two of you could easily see how in love you were with each other. He swore the sight could potentially make someone sick.
The man then cleared his throat, “Well…if you want to know what I think, I say you should talk to her.”
“Talk to her?”
Rick couldn’t help but laugh at how baffled he looked at the suggestion, “Yeah, talk to her. Besides, I think she’ll have a better chance at reassuring you about this than I will, she seems more fit for the role.” he joked.
But Daryl on the other hand scoffed, not exactly loving the idea, “This shit’s already embarrassing, why would I wanna bring it up to her? Didn’t even really wanna bring it up to you.”
“Thanks.” Rick said dryly before stepping closer to slap a hand on the man’s shoulder, “But just trust me on this, alright? You need to tell her how you’ve been feeling. Because if I know you at all, I know you want to keep this bottled up. But that’ll just make it worse and you know it.”
He was right. As much as Daryl hated to acknowledge it, he knew deep down he was right.
But that didn’t stop him from wanting to put it off every chance he got, pushing it into the back of his mind as he always seemed to do in hopes that it would just go away. Though he knew it wouldn’t, he couldn’t bring himself to want to think about it right now.
He went home later that night utterly defeated and clueless on how to even approach the topic in the first place. When the time dreadfully came around, how would he even bring it up? He was never good with words, especially when it came to something about how he was feeling. It was all just stupid and complicated in his mind, not knowing how to actually piece together the things he wanted her to know. But he knew he had to try.
The front door opened and shut with a small creak as he entered the house, kicking his dirty boots off to the side before he softly called out your name. But all was quiet, not a single sound of your voice calling back to him, to which he only assumed you were still out somewhere in the community. It wasn’t often you stayed out this late, but he silently knew that if someone needed the extra help, you would do it in a heartbeat.
The older man sighed deeply to himself before trudging up the stairs, wanting to get out of the filthy clothes he was trapped in before settling for the night, waiting for you to come home. He couldn’t ever really fall asleep without you there. He didn’t know if it was because he would always worry too much if you weren’t right beside him, or if he just physically needed your touch to relax, but it had to be somewhere in that ballpark. Perhaps both…definitely both.
He entered your shared bedroom with a tired huff, beginning to undo the buttons on his vest before folding it sloppily and setting it off to the side on the dresser. His hands then moved to peel off his dirty shirt that stuck to every part of his tanned skin, raising it over his head before throwing it in the hamper across the room to be washed. He ran his hands through his hair to get it out of his face as he crossed the space to get himself another pair of pants to sleep in, when suddenly his movements stopped short.
The tall, full length mirror that sat off in the corner quickly caught his attention as he saw just a brief glimpse of his reflection dancing behind the glass. He blinked a few times as he knew he shouldn’t look too close, knowing it was only going to add fuel to the already ongoing fire. But a part of him couldn’t help it, seeing as it was too late now that he had taken notice of a few new flaws he hadn’t spotted before. It was like some kind of sinkhole that he couldn’t escape from, looking over the things he hated the most about himself over and over again.
He slowly stepped closer toward the object even though he knew he shouldn’t, seeing himself a little more up close as the moonlight poured through the window just above him to illuminate his figure. His eyes scanned everything he could make out in the slight darkness, seeing the wrinkles that were now more prominent on his forehead. Seeing the dark circles under his eyes from the exhaustion and stress that had been weighing on him constantly. And seeing the scars that littered over his entire body.
“Daryl?”
The man nearly jumped out of his skin at the sound of your soft voice from behind him, spinning around to see you standing in the doorway. Your eyes widened a little in surprise. Never had you recalled a single time where you had been able to catch him off guard, accidently sneak up on him enough to make his heart skip. He had always been aware of his surroundings, the man had the instincts of a goddamn cat. So to say you were surprised when he hovered about five feet in the air at your presence, would be an understatement.
You raised an eyebrow at him in slight concern, “You okay?” you asked softly as you approached him with hesitance.
Daryl’s stomach had plummeted to his ass, a heat rising in his cheeks from embarrassment as you caught him staring down at himself for a bit longer than usual. He swallowed thickly as he saw you walking further into the room, nodding a bit quickly, “Yeah…m’ fine.”
Though the way he spoke was far from convincing, his voice coming out a bit higher than usual, and the reassuring smile he tried to send your way being a little too forced for you not to realize. Your eyes narrowed toward him in slight suspicion as you came to stand right in front of him, taking in his appearance. There was something that was clearly circling his mind, you had noticed for far longer than he thought you did. But you always knew when there was something off about him.
You gently reached out to grab one of his hands in your own, “Come on…don’t lie to me.”
He sighed softly, knowing that he should just bite the bullet and tell you, but he couldn’t bring himself to just yet. “Just…just had a rough day. That’s all.”
“That’s not what I’m talking about.” you said with a slight shake of your head, watching as he furrowed his brows a little in question. “You’ve been acting off for weeks now, you really didn’t think I was going to notice?”
His eyes widened. Shit.
A small smirk formed on your lips as you clearly saw that you had caught him in a little white lie. It was written all over his face. You squeezed his hand in reassurance, “I’m not upset…I just want you to talk to me.”
He knew he couldn’t avoid it forever, especially after Rick gave him that little wake up call earlier to just rip the bandage off. But he hoped he could put it off for at least a few more days, wanting a little more time to prepare the things he wanted to express to you honestly. Though he could tell just by the way you were looking up at him, that you wanted answers, and he couldn’t just ignore what was standing right before him.
He sighed softly as he looked at the ground for a moment, before slowly nodding his head, “Alright…” he started, not even knowing where to take this. “Look…maybe…maybe this ain’t workin.” he blurted without thinking.
Your eyes widened a little, “What?”
Daryl’s eyes then grew as well realizing just how bad that sounded, quickly shaking his head, “No, no, I- I mean…that ain’t how I meant for it to sound at all.” he reassured, before taking another moment to collect his racing thoughts. “I’ve been…thinkin recently and…I ain’t gettin any younger. Hell, I feel like I aged five extra years just from bein out on the damn road for so long.”
You nodded along slowly, not really seeing where this was heading, “So?”
He sighed softly, “So…I’ve been thinkin bout how…maybe…ya deserve to be with someone a little more fit for ya. Someone younger than me…someone who can give ya what I can’t.” he spoke almost regrettably, like he dreaded even saying those words out loud in the first place.
The truth was, he never wanted to let you go, that was a knowing fact that didn’t need to be proved. But at the same time, he didn’t want to hold you back from a chance at a better life. One that you so clearly deserved.
But your expression seemed to soften drastically, now hearing his explanation out loud, it all seemed to click in your head. Why he had been acting off for the longest time, it was because he was just thinking too much about something that meant absolutely nothing. When you first noticed his odd behavior, you automatically assumed you had done something wrong without realizing. But now hearing it out loud, hearing how hurt he sounded, all you wanted to do was hold him and never let him go. Wanting to reassure him for the rest of your lives if you had to that he was truly the only man you would ever want.
A small huff passed through your lips, “Sweetie…that’s what this is about?”
Daryl shrugged a little in response, “Well…yeah. I’ve seen ya makin friends with a lot of the people round here…it just crossed my mind that…maybe-”
“Stop.” you said gently as you moved even closer to him, reaching up to give his arms a gentle squeeze, “Don’t say another word.”
His gaze softened as he stared down at you, regret filling him completely as he saw just how his words had affected you.
“I love you…so much.” you whispered as your gripped his arms a little tighter, “I’m not looking at anyone else…I don’t want anyone else. No one else on this whole damn planet would be a better fit for me than you. I don’t need some younger guy. I’m not even friends with them, they only come talk to me if they have a question about something. And most of them aren’t very bright.” you said bluntly, earning a small chuckle from him. “I just wish you had told me about this sooner.”
He bit his lip a bit shamefully, “I know…m’ sorry. I just thought…ya might be better off-”
“I won’t.” you insisted, “You’re all I will ever need…you hear me?”
A small smile grew on his face upon hearing that, knowing that you meant every word. Though there was still another thing hovering over his mind. “Even though m’ an old man?” he asked half heartedly, though a part of him was still serious.
You rolled your eyes a bit, “Just because you’re older than me doesn’t make you an old man.” you laughed softly, “But if that’s something you’re really worried about…I promise to stick around even when you’re eighty.” you winked.
His lip quirked up a bit in amusement as he reached out to place his hands on your hips, gently tugging you closer, “Yeah?”
“Yeah.” you nodded, “You won’t get rid of me that easily.”
You then felt his thumbs start to rub soothingly along your hip bones, still a little unsure if this was truly what you wanted. To be with someone like him. “Ya promise?” he eventually asked.
You tilted your head a bit at him, “Come on…what do I have to do to convince you that I want this forever?”
The man was silent for a long moment as he thought to himself, absentmindedly still running his thumbs along your hips as he stared down at you. The truth was he didn’t really need anymore convincing than what you had already told him. Just by the small bit of reassurance you provided, he felt as though he was lighter, a weight being lifted from his shoulders knowing you were his. But still, he couldn’t imagine a more perfect time to make it even more official.
“Marry me.”
Your eyes widened a little in surprise, not expecting him to be so blunt let alone say those words to you at all. He never really struck you as someone who would want to get married at a time like this, but it’s not like you minded. As long as you were with him, that’s all that truly mattered to you.
Only now it felt as if the wind was knocked out of you, hearing him utter those words so clearly as if he meant it with his entire being. You couldn’t help but laugh a bit nervously, “Don’t joke about that, cause you know I will.”
He smiled down at you, shaking his head softly, “M’ serious.” he assured, raising one of his hands to run his thumb along your cheek, “Marry me.”
A lump began to form in your throat as you felt yourself get a little more emotional seeing how real this was becoming. Seeing how serious he was. He really wanted this.
“Okay.” you whispered with a small nod of your head.
His smile only grew, “Okay?”
You nodded a bit more frantically as a large smile broke out onto your face, “Yes…yes I’ll marry you.”
He chuckled, pure relief and happiness filling him completely as he picked you up in his arms, spinning you around lightly as you squealed in surprise. Though he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to seal the deal as he gently set you back down on your feet, kissing you deeply as he felt you hum into his mouth. A part of him almost couldn’t believe that you had agreed, wanting to truly be with him forever. But then again, with the way you looked at him, with the way you said yes with little to no hesitation at all, he knew. You were his forever.

Worry🪵
Summary: You’ve been with Rick since his fall out with Lori and got really close those 8 months on the road and now there’s the prison but things change when Michonne joins the group
•Masterlist•
Tumblr media
Everything between you and Rick have been going great, he treats you like a goddess, you helped him deal with the betrayal of Lori and slowly you fell for one another, you treated him with love and respect and he did the same for you, well that was until this new woman Michonne showed up
You walked into your shared cell with Rick as everyone was heading off to bed
“Hey love” you said as you sat next to him on the bed
“Hey” he usually gave you a little nickname like doll or darlin and it concerned you cause this has been happening every since she came
“Rick we need to talk” you sighed making him look at you finally because of your tone
“About what?” You turned fully facing him and crossing your legs trying to gather your courage
“Do you not love me anymore?” The anxiety building up the longer he didn’t answer
But when you asked his expression changed from hard to worry, it became soft
“What? Of course I still love you” he said rubbing his hand up and down your thigh
“Really? Because ever since Michonne arrived you act like I’m a nuisance, you don’t call me those sweet nicknames, you don’t kiss me as much and you haven’t even touched me……. Rick you ignore me” you finally admitted having held these feeling for weeks
“Oh baby I’m so sorry, it’s nothing to do with Michonne it’s the governor having to figure out how to protect us all it’s been the only thing on my mind and I guess I didn’t think I was treating you like that, that’s the last thing I wanna do is make you feel like I don’t love you, cause I do” he said holding my face between his hands wiping of the tears sliding down your cheeks
“Please don’t ignore me like that again, just talk to me that’s what I’m here for I’m here for you to talk to I wanna be your rock as much as you are mine, I love you Rick” you said leaning your forehead against his having missed his touch
“I love you too….so much”

one rule | chapter six
[rick grimes x original female character slowburn]
series masterlist
summary: rick confides in daphne, for reasons unknown to her. as she offers him counsel, daphne is also grappling with conflicting feelings of her own.
notes: if you're disappointed by this reaction, this is a friendly reminder that season 1 rick was mr moral high ground. but trust me when i say there WILL be a catalyst for rick's entire wrath and fury. this is just one step closer to that. do not fear, rick will be kicking shane's ass very soon :) also, the pacing is so bad in this, i might rewrite this whole chapter soon. but feel free to comment, i love talking to you all!
Tumblr media
I froze. In fact, I think all three of us did and I realized with a jolt how out of my depth I was here. This had nothing to do with me and of course, here I was, in the smack dab middle of it.
Daryl scoffed one more time and then trudged into the woods, mumbling all sorts of things. I stared after him until he disappeared within the trees. His words dawned on me and my eyes slowly traveled over to Shane.
Sure, Rick's sudden appearance had served as a nice distraction from the big glaring problem I had waiting here for me if I got back alive, but reality had to be faced eventually. My inner conflict since last night had been tearing me from the inside-out, as I tried to figure out my feelings for Shane Walsh. After all, he has been generously kind to me in all the years I've known him, albeit flirty but in a respectful way. He didn't cross any lines I'd deemed uncrossable and I wouldn't deny that his concern and priority over my well-being filled me with sensation far beyond gratitude.
The kiss caught me off guard. But now this bucket of ice cold water had been dumped over my head. Just as I began to entertain the idea of harboring romantic feelings for him.
His words from last night echoed in the back of my mind.
"For what it's worth, it's always been you."
Something inexplicable gripped at my throat. But I stayed as silent as possible. Watching these two was like a ticking bomb, any second away from detonating.
Shane stared at Rick with a troubled expression, his foot twisting into the dirt uncomfortably.
I knew in an instant Daryl Dixon did not lie.
Did he know this was my usual spot to gather berries and other edible plants? With his tracking abilities, I wouldn't doubt it, despite not talking to the man much but...
Of all the miles that surrounded our camp, why stretch out the smug admission of a hidden truth, a treacherous affair, until this very spot, just steps away from where I was crouched in the bush, picking for blueberries?
I reprimanded myself at the thought. Why would Daryl Dixon care about my knowing of Shane's personal escapades?
"She..." Shane started quite hesitantly. "Lori... she thought you were dead, man."
"Did you?"
Shane scoffed as if the accusation baffled him. "You heard 'em. I... I tried, Rick. I saw you every chance I got. The day it all went down— I didn't have a damn clue what was going on. Screams from left to right, the military raining fire on anyone who was still breathing. Hell, I tried to get you out of there, man! But it couldn't be the two of us dead because you still had a wife and a child out there! And if I couldn't save you, I could damn well save them!" He was unexpectedly set off, angrier than he should've been. "And let me tell you somethin', I did it for you. I did it for my brother. L-Lori, we were comforting each other in the only way we knew how—"
"I thought you were gone."
His partner's face was crestfallen. His lips parted like the shock was threatening to sink him under, his eyes glazed over from the betrayal.
"After I woke up in that hospital bed, when I saw what the world had become. The first thing I thought about was Carl and Lori. And then you. Our unit. For a moment, I thought you were all dead—"
Rick choked up and Shane's face morphed into something reminiscent of guilt. I couldn't quite tell though. I'd like to think that after years, I knew this man. But now he was completely unreadable.
Running a hand over his face, down his glistening eyes, Rick squared his stance and stared his longest friend in the eye.
"Our marriage... fell apart a long time ago," he shook his head and clenched his jaw. "But that doesn't make this okay."
There was a long moment of tense silence and I didn't realize I was holding my breath until my chest began to burn. I tried to control the air releasing from my lungs.
"I appreciate what you did. Saving 'em. I owe you everythin' but—" Rick cut himself off, glaring at the grass between them. He seemed to be saying these words through his teeth, forcing himself to say them. His hand began to flex angrily and his feet kicked the dirt beneath them in warning.
I stared at them with a mix of emotions.
One was a man that had changed my life forever, taught me how to survive in a post-apocalyptic world where I should've died. He cared for me, never shied away from making it clear that I was his priority. And maybe I was too blinded by the attention to see that there was something going on between him and Lori. That she was also carelessly pushed to the side in the weeks we'd been forming a new life together. And to know that she'd been having sex with him all along, I could only hope that she didn't have actual feelings for him, because it would explain the strange looks I had been catching from her, and my guilt would only increase tenfold.
And on the other hand was her husband, a man I have been pining over since the moment I laid eyes on him in the precinct.
Rick Grimes had an instant hold over me, no matter how minuscule or undetectable it had gotten over the years, and no matter what, he had always truly been the most gorgeous man I've known inside and out.
What does that say about me? Lusting after my friend's husband and then fucking around with the feelings of her goddamn side piece.
I suddenly became nauseous.
"I get it, man. I'll go back to the camp," said Shane after a long stretch of silence. I kept my eyes on Rick, unable to look at Shane with the turmoil brewing inside me. A simmering anger was twisting my insides at the mere sound of his voice.
"Uh— yeah, yeah," Rick mumbled distractedly, not bothering to even look up, fists clenching and unclenching by his sides.
A pair of footsteps stomped away, crunching along the grass until the only thing that could be heard was the chirps of the nearby insects.
As soon as Shane disappeared within the trees, Rick spun around to send his fist flying into a tree, a muffled yell leaving his pressed lips. He was beyond angry, tears lining his lash line, face turning red. I stared with wide eyes, trying not to make a single sound.
I felt incredibly bad for him. I couldn't imagine fighting tooth and nail to make it back to your wife just to find that she had moved on to your best friend so quickly. That although their marriage had already been suffering, she had chosen to sleep with the man he trusted more than anyone else.
Something wet touched my hand. I uncurled my fist to find a handful of crushed blueberries.
"How long you been there?"
I jolted up in surprise, my curls tangled into the bush and the pouch of berries slipped out of my other hand.
"I was here first," I replied defensively, still hidden in the bush.
Rick didn't say anything, just peered past the leaves as if he couldn't quite spot me. But somehow he knew I was there, his chest rising and falling rapidly.
"You were," he eventually said, slowly. "I saw you just before Daryl left."
Relief flooded through me. I slowly untangled myself from the branches, stepping out into the path with tinged cheeks. "I was picking berries. Found the patch a few weeks ago."
His cheeks were flushed, his hands shaking very slightly by his side.
"I can leave you alone," I said after some silence. "I'll go back to camp—"
"No." Rick said firmly, meeting my eye very briefly before glaring back down at the ground.
I halted my escape. "Oh, um, okay."
The awkwardness was threatening to eat me alive. I shifted on my feet, wondering where to look and what to do with my hands.
"Do you..." I eagerly looked up at Rick, glad one of us was talking. "Did you know?"
I studied him. Really, there should be no reason for him to be upset with me too, but I braced myself for his wrath anyway. He'd spared Shane because they were partners, but we were nothing. As much as it bothered me, Rick and I didn't owe each other an ounce of respect in this new world.
"No," I told him honestly. A surge of anger towards Shane rushed through me again. My cheeks felt hot.
"I keep wondering... if I have the right to even be upset. I wasn't a good husband to her, I know this, and you're the last person I should be telling this to but—"
The last person? Should I be offended or something? I decide now wasn't the best time to press for details. "It's fine. I know this can't be easy for you. To wake up to... this."
Rick scoffed a little, but not in a rude way. It was as if I'd said something outlandish and absurd.
"I woke up and the hardest part was done. Seeing the world change— changing with it— becoming the leader of a group you have no responsibilities or ties to. You, you did the hard part."
"Oh— did Shane—?"
"Shane didn't hafta tell me nothin'. Lori and I talked last night. She told me everything that happened since the day I got shot," explained Rick solemnly.
I cringed at the thought of them spending time alone last night. Not that it was crazy to imagine; they were still married.
"I guess I have a lot to be thanking you for," Rick looked up at me with an intense sincerity in his gaze. I tried not to squirm under the pressure of it. He continued. "You saved my family. That is something I will never be able to repay."
He stepped forward and laid a large hand on my shoulder. I could feel some heat rush to my ears. "You have my gratitude."
"Carl's a great kid. And Lori's my friend. I would do it a million times over," I told him truthfully.
He stared at me for a few moments, his hand still holding my shoulder as his eyes scanned every bit of my face. Sighing, he stepped away and brought himself to the ground carefully, sitting with his knees bent and leaning an elbow against them thoughtfully.
It was silent again, but it didn't feel as awkward as before so I sat next to him and began to wash the berries off with the bottle of water I'd brought with me from camp.
"What... what do I do?"
My head shot over to stare at him. "You're asking me."
I didn't state it as a question, more as a statement of shock, thinking about how ironic it was that the fate of a marriage I had once upon a time envied was now partly in my hands. The guilt was still there, painfully tugging at my heartstrings.
Rick shrugged and made a show of looking around at the empty trees around us.
"I can't really tell you what to do, Rick."
"What I really wanna do is break his jaw in. Watch him choke on his teeth."
I'm surprised at the restraint it took for him to not send his fist flying in the first place. I was fully prepared to watch Shane's ass get beat.
"He deserves it," I instigated slightly. I couldn't possibly be as angry as he was but I understood. Shane does deserve a good punch.
He sighed and shook his head at the ground.
"I don't know how to go on. How to look him in the face—" he scowled. "We were brothers. He was my best friend. He knew." Rick snapped.
"He knew...?"
"He was the one person I confided in. I told him about Lori and I. I told him when things started going south. I never thought in a million years I'd have to worry." He spat, shaking his head angrily.
I felt some of that bitterness surge in me as well. I felt completely and utterly deceived by the same goddamn person.
"We never do," I projected a bit. I couldn't help it, the anger was swelling in me as well. Just the thought of Shane's stupid face made me want to punch something. "They fill our heads with all these stupid promises and reassurances just to stab you right in the back anyway."
Am I being overdramatic? Most likely. Hell, I probably deserved this. I led Shane on for so long, I couldn't be mad that he moved on to someone else. I just couldn't understand why he'd said the things he did last night. The kiss.
I've never been more goddamn confused in my life.
It was quiet for a few minutes, my last comment brewing in the silence but I didn't think Rick would pay much mind to it. He had bigger problems of his own.
"Carl— he's so young..." he said idly as if it had just occurred to him.
Too young for a divorce was what he meant.
I couldn't disagree with that. There's no age that seeing your parents separate becomes easier to deal with. But he's not the same nine-year-old Rick had known before he got shot.
"Rick, the world isn't the same anymore. It doesn't excuse Lori's actions or Shane's, but all of that doesn't matter so much when you're trying to keep yourself from getting eaten by dead cannibals. I can't tell you what to do but in the grand scheme of things, I think Carl will learn to understand."
I didn't know whether this brought him any comfort because he seemed to have nothing else to say on the matter. Maybe I was too straightforward, after all Carl was his kid at the end of the day. Despite how much I'd grown to care for him...
"I've been thinking about the man we left behind."
I looked over at him in shock. It was the last thing I'd been expecting him to bring up. But as soon as I looked at his blue eyes, I could almost see the plans he was concocting.
He wanted to go after him.
"You can't be serious," I scoffed. I'd been pushing aside my own thoughts about Merle Dixon. Just one more thing to add to my consciousness. As much of a dickhead as he was, we'd left a human being for dead.
"It isn't right. Leaving him up there to die," insisted Rick.
"He would do the same to any of us," I argued. "You just escaped the city. Survived alone against all odds. You're willing risk that for a douchebag like Merle?"
I observed the incredulous look on his face with disdain. It's different for him. He was just introduced to this new fucked up reality. He still has hope that we can be the heroes of this story-- that we can afford to care about anyone but ourselves.
"This-- what we have here-- this is what we focus on. It's unfortunate but Merle dug his own grave. It isn't worth risking your life, Rick."
I hated the way he was looking at me but I steeled myself. He'd learn soon enough. Men like Merle weren't worth compromising your safety for. It was every man for himself in the old world, and even more so in the new one.
I shoved every silly feeling I've had for Rick to the side and gave him a stern look back. I willed myself not to care about the disgust on his face because soon enough, he'd understand.
He'd understand what we've done to keep his wife and son alive.
Rick opened his mouth and I braced myself, ready to hear something along the lines of me being a murderer and a split second thought ran through my head.
Shane would agree with me.
A blood curdling scream cut through the dense silence.
"MOM! DAD!"
I was up before I could even process it, tearing through the woods with Rick at my heels.
"CARL!" Rick and I yelled in unison. I gripped the pistol Shane had given me tight, not caring if my face was torn up by the stray branches I ran against, heart pounding in my chest as I willed my legs to move faster than they ever have.
"Here!" I tossed a knife back to Rick as I pushed ahead of him, beating him in speed by a milestone.
"MAMA! MOMMY!" A high-pitched voice screamed.
Finally, I stumbled upon where Sophia and Carl were huddled. Making a beeline towards the kids, despite the walker that stood yards away.
I grabbed them by the shoulders, looking them up and down frantically. Trying to find a bite, a scratch, anything.
A body came slamming into mine and I suddenly heard their screams, the rest of the group had been searching as well.
Lori grabbed her son frantically, snatching him from my grasp and patting his arms down in a panic. "Carl! Nothing bit you, nothing scratched you?"
"No, I'm fine," Carl shook his head.
Jacqui came running out of nowhere.
"Soph?" The small blonde girl shook her head frantically before sprinting in the direction of camp, no doubt searching for her mother.
"She wasn't bit. We're both okay." Carl reassured.
I gripped my pistol and set my sights on the walker. It was feasting on a deer, crouched over and ripping its neck to shreds. I grimaced, inching forward with Rick and Glenn at my side.
Shane made brief eye contact with me before the walker suddenly straightened up and whipped around.
Rick wasted no time, slashing its face with the knife I'd handed him. Shane used the end of his rifle and Glenn started beating the damn thing with a stick. Even Morales had a turn before Dale swung his axe and chopped its head off clean.
It was silent as we all stared at the mess of guts and blood in shock.
"That's the first one we've had up here. They never come this far up the mountain," said Dale shakily.
"Well, they're running out of food in the city. That's what," replied Jim, another survivor who was normally a man of few words.
A branch snapped and we all raised our weapons, my safety turning off once more.
I curled my finger around the trigger as the steps got closer.
"Oh, Jesus," Dale sighed in relief as Daryl came stomping out from between the bushes. I lowered my gun and shook my head.
"Son of a bitch! That's my deer! Look at it. All gnawed on by this filthy—" Daryl kicked the headless walker angrily.
"—disease-bearing—"
Kick.
"—motherless—"
Another kick.
"—poxy bastard!"
"Calm down, son. That's not helping."
"What do you know about it, old man?" Daryl sneered at Dale, getting in his face. "Why don't you take that stupid hat and go back to 'on golden pond?' If it wasn't for you idiots running it off earlier, I would've taken it back to camp. Maybe I can cut around this chewed up part. Take some for the road."
"Wouldn't risk that," Shane sighed.
"That's a damn shame," Daryl said, giving Shane a nasty glare before raising his bow and shooting an arrow into the walker's reanimated head.
Huffing, he shoulder-checked Glenn as he passed by, ripping the arrow out with a squelch.
I couldn't blame him for being angry. As much of an asshole as Merle was, he was still Daryl's family.
Glenn rubbed his shoulder and rolled his eyes.
"Daryl!" Rick rushed after him, disappearing into the trees with my knife. I was briefly confused until I remembered where our last conversation left off.
"God help us all," I smacked a hand on my forehead and began to make my way back to camp. Slowly so I wouldn't catch up to Daryl and Rick.
"Hold up, Daph," Glenn caught up to me with a huff. "Were you ever going to tell me about Rick being the Rick?"
"What?"
Glenn glanced behind us. Likely looking for Shane.
"Rick Grimes? Like super hot hip-swaying coworker Grimes? I'm fucking offended, Daph."
"Do you want everyone to hear you?" I whispered harshly, scanning the woods to make sure Rick or Shane weren't lurking about.
"I can't believe you didn't tell me!"
"Sorry, it wasn't really at the forefront of my mind yesterday. I was more thinking about all the dead people trying to eat us."
"What are the freaking odds?" Glenn marveled. "Out of all people, he runs into us. You know, anybody else would've left him for dead."
"Yes, you're a goddamn hero, Glenn."
"Damn right I am. Saved your man from certain death."
My eyes widened comically and I whacked him in the side. "He's not my man. Don't say shit like that around Shane or Lori."
"Of course not. I'm not crazy. You see 'em around here?"
"I dunno. Shane has eyes and ears everywhere."
"True," Glenn nodded, staring at his feet as we walked. Suddenly, he stopped.
"What's up with you two? You've been weird since yesterday morning."
Fuck. I knew it wouldn't slip past him. Glenn knew me too well for this to just slide and the only reason I'd been keeping it from him was because of how selfish and ashamed I felt.
"Don't judge me, okay?"
His eyebrows pinched together in confusion. "Okay?"
I seized his sleeve and took us a little ways off the trail, closer to the blueberry patch. Speaking of which, I left all of the ones I'd collected in the dust. Goddamnit.
"Um— two nights ago, Shane and I... well, we kissed."
His jaw dropped slightly.
"He kissed me." I defended quickly, before Glenn could give me a judgmental look.
"Did you want it?" He asked carefully.
"Yes— well, no— I don't know."
Glenn narrowed his gaze, sending a glance in the direction of camp. His cheeks tinted red and he shifted uncomfortably.
"He didn't force himself onto me, if that's what you think." I said quickly, recognizing the signs of Glenn's impending anger.
His chest fell in relief.
"I just... I screwed up, Glenn. I led him on. I let him kiss me and I kissed him back. I didn't even know if I wanted it. And then Rick of all people shows up! The one person I was holding out hope for. I'm not a homewrecker but I am delusional."
Glenn stayed silent so I continued with a sigh.
"I should've given Shane a chance before the world went to shit. But I didn't and now everything is so much more complicated... he, um, he told me there's no one else."
"Damn."
I closed my eyes frustratingly. "I know."
"That's clearly a lie."
I gave him a side-eyed glare. "I know."
Glenn pursed his lips awkwardly and looked away.
"How long have you known?" I asked with a sigh. Wouldn't be surprised if I was the last one to find out.
"Not long. I stumbled upon them in the woods the other day. I can't get the image out of my head, I think I'm scarred for life." He grimaced. "I would've told you if I knew he was trying to make a move."
"It's fine," I began to walk back over to the path again. "You couldn't have known. It happened late at night and I was wallowing in self-pity yesterday."
I stomped on the fallen leaves, trying to release some of the pent-up frustration before getting back.
"It's just... I told him it'd take time but I was willing to give us a try. All this time I've felt guilty for even missing that part of my life when Lori was still grieving her husband. Just to find out her and Shane are having sex this whole time."
Glenn readjusted his cap. "Gotta wonder if this started now or before."
That's a good point.
I wasn't a good husband to her, Rick had said to me earlier.
I don't know anything about their lives from before. I only knew Rick at a professional level. And whatever Shane would tell me when he was trying to chat me up every other day at work.
I can't really judge Rick or Lori. She thought he was dead and Rick... well, I don't know what he meant by not being a good husband.
This was truly a mess I had no part in.
"I'm taking myself out of this equation. I have enough on my plate for me to worry about this love triangle."
"More like a rectangle."
I gave him a confused look.
"You like Rick. Rick likes Lori. Lori like Shane. Shane likes you and Lori?"
God, I love and hate his out-of-pocket comments sometimes. But Glenn keeps it real. I gotta respect that.
Rick likes Lori.
Well technically, Rick should love Lori and he probably does. She's the mother of his child and I can't pretend to know everything about their relationship, but if what Rick said earlier was true, there wasn't much of a relationship anymore.
"I could really use some vodka," I groaned, feeling a headache forming between my eyes.
"Same," Glenn said sadly as we approached camp.
Everyone had resumed to their usual activities. Lori and Carl were nowhere to be found but I assumed they were in their tent or the RV. Carol was folding clothes with little Sophia at her feet.
I did a double-take when I saw Rick and Shane speaking to the side. I could faintly hear their conversation.
"So that's it, huh? To hell with everybody else? What about Lori?"
"Don't talk to me about her. I'm not saying to hell with anybody. Especially not to my son." Rick said firmly, buttoning up his sheriff's uniform. He started walking past his former partner.
"Tell them that."
Rick whipped around, an unreadable expression on his face as he stared back at his friend.
"They know. You'd best leave me alone. It's in your best interest. This ain't got nothing to do with you."
I started walking over, feeling a fight begin to stir up. Shane didn't look like he was deterred by Rick's unapproachable attitude and there's no way Rick wasn't still upset about his best friend's actions.
"Well, look, I--I don't, okay, Rick? So could you just throw me a bone here, man? Could you just tell me why? Why would you risk your life for a douchebag like Merle Dixon?"
"Hey, choose your words more carefully," threatened Daryl, who was standing nearby.
"No, I did. Douchebag's what I meant."
"You have something in common then," said Rick jarringly. I was taken aback, not expecting that type of insult to fly out of Officer Grimes' mouth. He was always the passive one.
Glenn chortled next to me.
Shane took it unflinchingly. "Merle Dixon-- that guy wouldn't give you a glass of water if you were dying of thirst, man."
"What he would or wouldn't do doesn't interest me. I can't let a man die of thirst. Me. Thirst and exposure. We left him like an animal caught in a trap. That's no way for anything to die, let alone a human being. I don't recall asking for your opinion either."
"So you and Daryl? That's your big plan?" Lori asked, more at ease than I would've expected given the tense circumstances.
I observed her easy posture, other than the frustration she was likely feeling over the fact that her husband was trying to go on a damn suicide mission. I watched as her eyes subtly traveled from Rick to Shane. Then I realized Shane must not have told her a damn thing.
Rick looked at her with hardened eyes. And then switched his gaze over to—
Glenn groaned. "Oh, come on."
There's no way in hell.
"You wanna drag someone else on this suicide mission?" I interjected exasperatedly. I gave Rick my nastiest glare, unable to believe his audacity.
"You're really okay with letting a man die?"
"It's like I said before. He'd do the same to any of us," I lowered my voice and stepped closer to Rick, eyeing Daryl's angry pacing over his shoulder. "He was going to get himself killed eventually. And he would've dragged us all down with him."
I'm not evil. I'm not. I just don't want to see Rick die.
Rick stared at me for a moment before setting his attention onto Glenn.
"You know the way," I scoffed as he ignored me completely. "You've been there before. In and out, no problem. You said so yourself."
Glenn took his cap off and started rubbing his head-- a nervous tick of his.
I've never felt so angry with anyone. Knowing he was asking this of Glenn. Asking him to risk his life once more when he already had just to save Rick's skin.
"It's not fair of me to ask. I know that." Rick glanced over to me apologetically. I guess he isn't deaf. "But I'd feel a lot better if you came along."
"That's just great." Shane scowled, stepping closer to me. "Now you're gonna risk three men, huh?"
"Four," said T-Dog from the edge of camp.
Daryl scoffed. "My day just gets better and better, don't it?"
"Be grateful anyone's willing to save that dick," I bristled.
"Yeah, you see anybody else stepping up to save your brother's cracker ass?"
"Why you?" Daryl asked T-Dog.
"You wouldn't even begin to understand. You don't speak my language."
"That's four," said Dale exasperatedly.
"That's not just four. You're putting every single one of us at risk. Just know that, Rick. Come on. You saw that walker. It was here, it was in camp."
Despite it all, Shane and I usually saw eye to eye on most things. We weren't afraid to make hard decisions to keep the camp safe. The first week or so when it was just the five of us, Shane and I would stay up late into the early hours of the morning. Talking about our limits— what we were willing to do to make sure our loved ones stayed alive. Even if prioritizing our safety meant leaving others behind.
It's why I still can't believe Ed Peletier is still a good-for-nothing member of our camp. After his and Shane's scuffle, I was certain Shane and I would find a way to get rid of him. Whereas douchebag volatile Merle contributed brawn and hunting game, Ed contributed nothing.
"They're moving out the city. They come here, they get to camp-- we need every able body we got. We need 'em here. We need 'em to protect camp." Shane emphasized.
"You went through hell to find us," added Lori. "You just got here and you're gonna turn around and leave?"
"Dad, I don't want you to go." Carl pleaded.
"Shane is right. Merle Dixon? He's not worth even one of your lives! Tell me. Make me understand." Lori said angrily, standing up.
Rick sighed and crouched in front of Carl, making a point to speak mostly to him. "I owe a debt to a man I met and his little boy. If they hadn't taken me in, I'd have died. It's because of them that I made it back to you at all. They said they'd follow me to Atlanta. They'll walk into the same trap I did if I don't warn him."
"What's stopping you?" Lori asked from the side.
"The walkie-talkie. I dropped it in the tank I hid in," Rick looked back at Glenn and I. "He's got the other one. Our plan was to connect when they got closer."
"I feel for them. I really do but I can't listen to this shit any longer," I hissed quietly at Glenn before stomping away towards our tent.
Footsteps crunched behind me and I knew he was following me. I slipped off my shoes and threw myself onto my sleeping bag, irritated beyond belief. The second Rick mentioned the walkie he'd left behind, it reminded me of what I had left behind too— the medicine. A shit ton of it. Stuff that we'd need eventually and the vitamins the kids were so desperately lacking.
Goddamnit. Carl was one of my weakest spots. I'd grown to care for him immensely, more than I expected. His now-hallowed cheeks stabbed at my heart.
I watched as Glenn gathered his gun I'd given him from the bag I retrieved for Rick yesterday and the CB.
"You're going."
"He'll die if I don't. He's gonna go with or without me," Glenn sighed.
I stood up and pocketed my pistol. "Then I'm going too."
"What? Weren't you against this whole plan? Number one Merle hater?"
I shoved my shoes back onto my feet. "That's before you decided you were going to put your life on the line too. And I still hate that fucker. I'm not doing it for him. I'm doing it for you."
"You don't have to," Glenn grabbed my arm, halting my exit. "You should stay here."
I shot him an incredulous look. "While you go out there and risk your life?" I lowered my voice so that no one else could eavesdrop. "None of these people mean as much to me as you do. I know this is what you do but if there's any way I can help, I need to be there. Besides, I'm going back for the medicine. We're running low."
With that, I freed my arm and left our tent, beelining for the truck where Daryl was loading his bow and arrows into. I got into the passenger's seat, ignoring Shane as he threw yet another fit at the sight of me. Slamming the door shut, I groaned and closed my eyes, throwing my head back as I wondered why we were all willingly putting ourselves in danger once more.
"Yer comin' too?"
I opened an eye and peeked at Daryl through the side mirror. He was crouched behind my seat, busy with his arrows.
"Clearly."
His lip curled and he shook his head.
I couldn't give less of a fuck if he was mad. He could get over it.
The driver's seat opened and Glenn got in, readjusting his cap and giving me a glance. "Thanks," he whispered.
My anger dissipated a little and I gave him a tiny smile, knowing both of us felt a lot better going into the lion's den together. That smile quickly fell when a foot appeared between us, slamming into the wheel twice.
"Come on!" Daryl hollered, honking the horn obnoxiously.
"Don't do that. There might be other walkers close by, you idiot," I seethed.
He ignored me. "Let's go!"
