You really should know about Storm "Daniel"
Unlike how much all of us Greek blogs notify our tumblr communities about the regular (at this point) arsons wildfires afflicting Greece, we did not say much about the floods the country has been suffering from right now. There was a mention here and there and I even made a joke post as the storm was starting but not a lot of stuff in general. So, I think there's a couple of things you should know and I feel like I could address about it and actually it's not just about Greece. So I believe this could interest a lot of people and it should be something known worldwide.
In the beginning of September there was an alarm about an extreme weather phenomenon forming above the Ionian Sea at the west of mainland Greece. In truth, the phenomenon was not caused by the climate change. It was just a very rare occurence where a high pressure atmosheric system was sandwiched between two currents of low pressure. Low pressure systems are the ones resposible for stormy weather while high pressure systems generally create stable weather. As the low currents encircled the high pressure system, the storm that had started forming became unusually stable for a storm. As a result, the storm moved northeast above Thessaly and other regions of the central part of Greece and... just decided to stay there for an indefinite amount of time. Furthermore, because it's September and the Ionian Sea had warmed up throughout the summer, the medicane (Mediterranean cyclone) gained tropical features as it was forming, pushing its intensity to extremes unknown to this area.
The storm remained above all of central Greece for about 4-5 days but at the meantime it was causing side-storms in neighbouring countries, such as Bulgaria and Turkey. Both countries suffered from floods causing damages and deaths.
Tumblr media
Istanbul, Turkey (CNN).
Tumblr media
Tsarevo, Bulgaria (CNN).
Four people died in Bulgaria and seven in Turkey.
But like I told you the core of this was exactly on top of Greece's central mainland and islands. So what happened there? I happened to experience this shit first hand. My recollection of it is that it was unlike any other storm I had experienced before. My knowledge on meteorology is not very advanced, however I believe due to the high pressure part, there were actually no winds at all - or they were insignificant, so it wasn't like what you might have in mind as a conventional cyclone. It was a rainstorm but it was like a rainstorm from hell. The crucial part is that in Greece summer violent rainstorms may last for about five minutes but certainly not for five days nonstop. There was no pause, not even for a second. It kept pouring and pouring in indescribable volumes, without decreasing or slowing down, not for a moment. The fourth day it started taking short breaks.
As a person with a phobia of lightnings since childhood, I kept wearing earplugs throughout all these days. For four days, ten seconds did not pass without at least one lightning shrieking exactly on top of our heads. In the end, I am dead serious, I think my lifelong phobia has been cured somewhat due to this extreme exposure that eventually had a numbing effect. I think only the first day there was a record of 7,000 lightnings. I believe there must have been dozens of thousands overall. The lightnings also caused fires but the downpour was so overwhelming no fire could ever stand a chance.
Whether during or after the rains, what I was seeing outside was post-apocalyptic. The only thing missing was the zombies. It really looked like a background from a videogame, including a constantly lit up sky. I was not in danger though people dear to me were. The worst for me was a huge fall in the quality of living but that doesn't matter. The rains caused severe destructions across cities and villages. They caused floods, they broke bridges, they broke a massive number of roads, they made walls collapse, they destroyed springs, they damaged water and electricity outlets entirely, they drowned flocks and flocks of animals, they destroyed mountainous and coastal villages alike, they made cars float and fly over each other and they uprooted houses.
Tumblr media
Village in Mount Pelion, Greece.
But that's not the end of it. Four days later, the storm moved southwest towards the Ionian sea, basically to the place of its original formation. It side-swept over Athens in the meantime, flooding the city, but that doesn't mean much since I could cry and Athens would still flood with my tears. Anyway. AFTER the storm left, the floods caused by it started multiplying and expanding. Picture that: a crystal clear sky, a bright sun and your phone screaming state alerts about evacuating your village or town because a lake has launched at you! Here's the thing: Thessaly is a massive plain surrounded by a ring of mountains. Half of those downpours fell right on the lowlands causing floods and destructions the first days. The other half however fell on the mountains, filled the streams heading down and they all met up and filled the lakes and the large river of Thessaly, Pineios and they all basically exploded the next days. Pineios especially exploded both in its western and eastern part, sinking the entirety of Thessaly's plains under water. As a result, floods were actively taking place days after the storm had ended and the weather was good. The phenomena have only started subduing since yesterday.
Tumblr media
The overflowing of the river, trapped by the mountains.
Farmers won't be able to work this year and next year is questionable as well. There are huge concerns about various epidemics breaking out as more and more dead animals are found in the waters. Entire villages are under the water. There are estimations that some villages in west Thessaly might have been lost forever and their residents will have to move elsewhere. Sixteen people have died from the rainstorm and the floods.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Actual villages in Karditsa, Greece.
A more longterm danger is that the ground received such an unnatural amount of water that it might have been severely eroded and destablised, making it vulnerable to natural disasters I don't want to utter. Many roads are either broken or bloated and Thessaly has been cut out from communication and transportation with the rest of the country. To this day, there are maps guiding people how to drive from North to South Greece and vice versa by entirely skipping Central Greece! (Hint: they will have to drive through Epirus, aka western Greece.) The first days there was also complete isolation from what was happening in the country and the world and also the very regions we were in as we had no electricity and our only chance was getting a call from somebody being elsewhere and telling us what is going on.
Tumblr media
Volos, Greece (CNN)
Many regions have received within 2-4 days 55 times their monthly amount of rain or more than twice the yearly amount. Greek meteorologist Christos Zerefos estimated that such a phenomenon occurs every 300-400 years. Meteorologists were alarmed internationally - with Germans and Americans reportedly saying they hadn't studied such a phenomenon again in their career. Its intensity was record high in the history of Greece and right in the top of Europe's as well. They also agreed that such a phenomenon would be devastating even if it had hit the most advanced and prepared country.
BUT THIS IS NOT THE END. The weakened Daniel seemed to slowly move towards South Italy but it decided to take a turn and headed south towards Libya and Egypt. Quite possibly, as the storm was once again travelling across the warm Mediterranean Sea, it was rejuvenated and gained even more tropical traits. Eventually, the medicane hit Libya with unprecedented force.
Tumblr media
The cyclone travelling from Greece to Libya.
The toll it took on Libya is unspeakable. As I am writing this,
More than 5,226 people are killed and more than 10,000 are currently missing.
Like, can you wrap your head around what I am talking about? I don't see this shit being acknowledged enough across the world. I am checking this again and again, to ensure I am reading this correctly.
Daniel has officially become the deadliest medicane on record.
Tumblr media
Eastern Libya, from Al Jazeera.
In the meantime, Greeks found opportunities to practice their favourite sport: political infighting. People who weren't even here when hell broke loose say that if this or that was properly done, we would not have problems at all. I even saw an idiotic Greek expat comment how "we got drowned in a little bit of rain". The truth is we should bloody thank our lucky stars and I say this with the entire awareness of half of Thessaly being currently underwater. It is true that Greek governments and people have done so many things badly, like building on top of streams and rivers, changing rivers' natural route, drying up natural lakes and all that shit that guarantees you are going to have massive problems once a serious storm breaks out. Also, the disaster revealed that there was once more a very questionable management of all the money given by the EU for anti-flooding measures after a previous flood (Ianos). Of course, I would be happy if at last we viewed this disaster as an opportunity to improve ourselves and the management of our land, however whatever happened these days wasn't the fault of anyone in particular. On the contrary, A LOT worse could have happened. A lot. Maybe Libya is not an indication because if Greece is not used to such extreme rain phenomena, then Libya is probably ten times less used to them, however we should not forget that this monster was STUCK at least five days over the heartland of Greece. For this alone we should damn be thankful we did not get it any worse and that the land endured in any way and of course now we have to correct old mistakes as well but let's do it united and determined and without wasting time once more in pointless infighting, which in this case might even be unfair. (In fact I think the thing we should blame the state the most about was not making it clear beforehand that this was going to be unprecedented, not just "very severe". They probably didn't want to cause panic and mayhem but still. We should know.) Of course I am not talking about how the state will treat the afflicted regions from now on, which is entirely its responsibility. And we should stand next to Libya. Greece has its wounds to mend but it should absolutely provide support to Libya. We know what this freak phenomenon was like.
I know this text is long but please consider reblogging this. We should know what happens on our planet. Thousands of people are dead from a freak phenomenon devastating regions across lands and seas. Also forgive any mistakes I might have made although I believe the information is correct for the most part. I didn't speak more about Libya because I don't know enough to analyze the situation as much. Perhaps there are ways of supporting the country too. As a last note, this phenomenon was not freakish because of the climate change - it was just a very unusual occurence. However, the - otherwise normal - warmth of the sea did feed and intensify the storm and the climate change might in the future cause these super rare, accidental phenomena to become more frequent.

i think part of the reason people are so hateful about fat people is because theyre not fat, even though they put little to no effort into their diet and daily activity levels. even if they dont live healthy lifestyles and theyre not trying to, and theyre still a "normal" weight. and because theyre ignorant and resistant to learning about how peoples bodily functions vary wildly, anyone who is fat must have brought it upon themselves by being extra lazy or extra glutinous and if they were normal they wouldnt be fat and its soooo easy to not be fat because look at them theyre not fat. which is so fucking stupid because so many people complain about how skinny people exist without "earning" how skinny they are, theyre literally just like that even if they eat tons of food because they're trying desperately not to be skinny. but the opposite cant be true for fat people apparently. fatness is always a direct consequence of abnormal habits apparently.

He BECAME the little meow meow we always knew he was 🥹
Also, I’m so happy we’re actually getting cosmetic lore again. I love learning about characters, even trivial things that will never get brought up again (Can you tell I’m in a fandoms who try to put characters together with the little crumbs we have? 🥲)
Tumblr media
Now we know that Ji-Woon posts some real fucked up shit! (Hooray!…?)
He would probably make posts like this* and wouldn’t care what people said about him afterwards and would only make an apology video because Yun-Jin told him to. (Of course the script had to be approved before he actually began recording)
*The posts in question (oh, and here’s some JTHM, I don’t know how large the DBD and JTHM overlap is, but here you go :P):

uhh okay I just have to get this out before i explode because it has been bouncing around my head so uh um what if Professor Layton was French and took place in France? Please please please dump everything on us I want to hear the lore and nuance of French Layton; whose names change, what are they like now, how does the story change because it’s Paris and not London (assuming because capital cities), that kind of stuff.
Maybe change Luke’s name to Luc or something. Not sure about Hershel Layton, though. Speaking of which I know Layton always says things remind him of a puzzle so I’d imagine he instead says ce me rappelle un puzzle and then when Luc solves a puzzle he says je l‘ai résolu, professeur!!!
Then there’s Clive “je préfère y penser comme la justice” Colombe (changed his surname there) because Guilluame Faucons blew up his parents or whatever
Rereading this I asked for the nuances of French Layton and then thought too much into it myself. whoops.
this started because i was thinking about slavic professor layton and somehow moved from prague to paris lol
Tumblr media
!!! Alright I'll try to calm it with the maj and the exclamation points lol, but I want you to know I am very very happy and excited about this !! Professeur Layton woohoo !! And I am repeating myself but your French is amazing, Luke DOES say that kfjbhefhkb (Also you found such great names so fast how did you do that ??) I am going to focus on the French Adaptation idea (hence the screenshot) ! =) I think I will talk about actual French Unwound Future eventually, but it'll be its own separate post. I simply MUST focus on this first, like the potential and sheer fun of it ? I have IDEAS.
Names and setting (Oh yes we are going there) under the cut !!
Starting with the names !!
Hershel Layton : Definitely changing Layton, I guess Léton could work ? (Little reference to French BD Les Légendaires lol) Landon is very cool tho, it reminds me of London too ! For the first name you and a friend of mine suggested Herbert, which is a great idea but I'm not too sure about losing the Yiddish etymology :( Hershel could stay I guess. I did play with Léon Léton for a moment (Léon is French equivalent for Yiddish name Lejb + we keep the animal etymology) but it sounds really terrible lol, so up to you !!
Luke Triton : You're absolutely right he would be Luc Triton !! Middle name is most definitely something like Richard lol
Flora Reinhold : Definitely agree with Flore ! Reinhold is hard because it's Renaud in French but like,,, Renaud has CONNOTATIONS. (There is a French singer called that way and people often make fun of him). Soooo same friend came up with Flore de Raynald. Looking back, I'm not sure about the "ay" ? Anyway, I added the "de" because French people used to have one in their names if they were rich/noble !!
Clive Dove : Okay. Bear with me. Bear with me please. But Nicolas Colombe. Like you said, Dove = Colombe. But Clive doesn't have any equivalent in French : you suggested Clovis and I think it really is the best, most logical option (it does make him look like a 5th century king but also Clive is like that lol) !! However I did remember that Clive's Japanese name is Klaus, and Klaus is strictly equal to Nicolas in French. So yeah idk, Nicolas Colombe sounds like a Miraculous Ladybug name lol
Bill Hawks : You're 100% right, this is our premier ministre Guillaume Faucon. =)
Dimitri Allen : We had also come up with Dimitri Alain (it's either that or pronouncing it Allant, which is just ugly lol) so perfect !!
Claire Foley : I'll be honest I don't even know how Foley is supposed to be pronounced…? But it has something to do with sound in filmmaking apparently, so you know. Claire Echo or something
That's it for the names !! Now I simply NEED to talk about something really really cool- the setting. Why that you may ask ? Because there actually are caves underneath Paris, and they're not just any caves. (They're magic caves- alright sorry ijfginknf)
So yeah the caves under Paris are not huge oval caves like the one in Unwound Future, it's more like a series of corridors that go deep under the whole city. Also it is HUGE, like only 0,5% is open to visitors and this is already 1,7km/1,1 mile !! The best part ?? This 0,5%. It's actually an ossuary (Known as Les Catacombes de Paris). This place is very popular, people love to go there, and it's already been the setting of many many books- so why not you know ? Even though I know you couldn't/shouldn't build a mecha there (no room for it and you'd be destroying a real 18th century monument) + this doesn't really look like the future lol
But you could TOTALLY adapt the story so that Layton and Luc have to go to the Catacombs and then you have a sick setting and you could have booby traps, a not-so-subtle-but-very-cool life or death mood, and above all. You can have Clive being a madman spending all of his time six feet under in the catacombs. Gloomy. Upsetting ? Fun !!
Also the mecha should totally be on that stupid island in the middle of Paris. That or you replace the lighthouse by the Eiffel Tower.

Odd Question.
Do you have a favourite book?
Oh, I've got plenty!
"Good Dog" by Dan Gemeinhart - I lost my dog Dylan in May 2021 and only a week later, I found this book. Maybe it was divine intervention, maybe it was fate or something, I don't know. But this book had me sobbing by the end because it hit far too close to home. I absolutely recommend it.
"Thanks a Lot, Universe" by Chad Lucas - While I was completely able to relate to the characters in this story, the writing was absolutely phenomenal. Ezra and Brian were wonderful characters and I honestly still want to give them a hug XD even though I haven't reread the book in a looong while. Both their conflicts were very well-written and compelling, and also I loved the very casual and well-written representation of mental illness, different races, and sexualities <3 highly recommend! But there's a few heavy topics involved in it.
"Long Way Down" by Jason Reynolds. - We had to read this book this most recent school year that just ended and it was amazing! Jason Reynolds' writing is so raw, real, and emotionally compelling, and the ending is very interesting. I certainly recommend it!
"Ghost Boys" by Jewell Parker Rhodes - This book is similar to Long Way Down, but it's from the perspective of a victim of gun violence rather than someone related to a victim. It's such a compelling, heartbreaking, raw, and phenomenal book.

every day in our world poor innocent people die in horrible ways. people drown in pig shit when they fall into the literal rivers of it on pork farms. people are crushed to death and suffocate in grain and rice and quinoa. people drown in literal human feces trying to retrieve something they dropped down a toilet, and spend the rest of their after-life mocked for it. right now, within the time that you are taking to read this post, someone will be crushed to death within a steel death-trap, the same ones you and I drive along the road and ignore the highly likely death rate of because we need to get place to place. people die every day, every few seconds. many of those deaths are unpleasant. a man trapped in a sewage pipe, boiled alive by gases and screaming as the rescuers can do nothing. a man tangled and held down in freezing, dark water by the corpse of his friend he went to retrieve to finally bring back to his family, decades after he met his own demise in the lightless depths of an underwater cave. desperate migrants forced onto a boat by gunpoint going under a third time and succumbing to the water in their lungs. babies born blue who will not have the holes in their hearts repaired. the person who you see on the street in the cold rain every morning on your commute home finally curling up, passing out, and succumbing to the fact that they haven't eaten in weeks. every single day. every single minute.
I think about them all the time. right now there are men who will not come out of the mine they are in. right now there are prisoners breathing their last breath on death row who never even committed a crime, prisoners who were taken in on a drug charge who will shudder their way to sleep and pass in the night because their cell is freezing. the mourning never, ever, ever stops.
the sheer ridiculous gall that I should take a break from every instance of human suffering that happens every day on this planet because the ones who deserve some extra time, some extra thought, some extra air time, the biggest news stories, are people who can spend more money than what my house cost to face literal crushing depths in a jury-rigged can is almost laughable. we're free to laugh at other unfortunate deaths, even of the desperate and desolate--the man who drown in human shit? that's real. three people, actually, died. one man trying to retrieve his cell phone, and two desperate family members trying to save their drowning son or at least retrieve his body. it became a headline. a joke. they drowned in a toilet. how funny. three lives lost to become a headline. but feel pity for the rich. feel pity for the rich. it's not funny when they die. how horrible of a death, when it's those that can pay $250,000 for it.

Ugh, great. Tumblr is making me sad now too lol.
I knew there were terfs and radfems, but I didn't expect there to be SO MANY. You just see transmeds, radfems and terfs literally on NEARLY EVERY POST trans women will talk about their experiences, even if it has NOTHING TO DO with them, even if they're asked to not interact.
I straight up saw and had to block a bunch of radfems and terfs on here calling a nonbinary person a NARCISSIST just for talking about their experience exploring their gender identity over the years, and saying they just "wanted to be special". ????
Then I saw them dunking on another trans woman who was talking about this phenomenon transphobes often do where they project their feelings of cis men onto trans women (which I think was worded very well and it helped me really understand why a lot of transphobia occurs, and I'm super thankful she could explain it in a way that made sense), and all the comments were misgendering her and calling her crazy and delusional, and acting like she was forcing them to be into her when literally all she was saying was just "don't lump us in with how you feel about cis men cuz we're not the same and not even all trans women experience sex the same way". She never, at any point, demanded you be into her, she just asked to not be treated with disrespect. And I don't understand how all these radfems act like they get to tell her she's wrong when, hello, you're not trans? She is?? She knows the trans experience and other trans people? Who are you to act like you get to police that?
It just makes me really fuckin depressed and anxious, especially thinking about all my trans friends and my partner who probably have to deal with disgusting people like this, whether they're transfem, transmasc, non binary, etc. Radfems don't care - they just want a reason to hate on someone and use them as scapegoats and it sucks. It fucking sucks.
They even tried to speak for bi women when it's like? No?? I'm a bi woman and I'm not a transphobic jerk?? As someone who's a bi girl and is also afraid of most men to an extent, I'm not going to use my past trauma in order to be hateful because 1.) That's a shitty thing to do, 2.) Even if my nb partner had a dick i would still love them all the same bscause they are kind, caring, and listen so much better than anyone else I've been with, 3.) You're not going to solve misogyny with even more misogyny and bigotry. It makes me so fucking afraid even if I'm a cis woman because, damnit, I just want my fucking friends to be happy without hateful people like this.
Hell, I even saw them accusing CIS WOMEN of "not being real women" when they didn't approve of them. I saw some blogs rb some shit like " 'some women don't produce eggs--' are you sure they're real women?" And that just made my fucking blood boil. Because it just fucking PROVES they don't care about women. If they did they would understand plenty of cis women want kids, plenty of them want families but can't have them, plenty of disabled women aren't able to produce eggs due to their illnesses, plenty of women from other ethnicities like Hispanic women might have features they consider masculine like more visible body hair (something that, as a Hispanic woman, made me feel very icky and gross until I accepted body hair was not a gendered thing, no matter how much society pushed it to me as one.)
And I will never, ever understand how you would push these stupid expectations on women everyone, trans and cis alike, when you know damn well how fuckin hard and painful it is to constantly be forced to meet society's standards. If you REALLY want "liberation", why are you oppressing people even further? If you really want equality, why are you beating people down? Why are you forcing us all to fit in boxes?
They act like they're so woke and big brained to hate on trans people like this but really, they're just hateful and contributing to the hate non-men everywhere have had to endure for ages just for not being men. And I will never, ever accept someone that does things like that as a feminist.
You are NOT a feminist if your activism is limited only to women you personally like and approve of.

the flood of the seventieth hunger games  drowning, murder, blood, death mentions, flooding, & mental exhaustion tw.
Tumblr media
eight days and twelve cannons blaring later, annie would find herself splayed across a thick branch of a tree. turns out she was proficient at hiding. before the seventieth hunger games, she was unaware of the fact. the hours blur in the arena ; insomnia ravaged her after the gruesome death of percy leatworth. ( she scrubbed her skin raw after his own lifeblood splashed her like an afterthought. ) dehydration lingered just too shy of taking her. she wished its claws would just end her.
apart from annie, only eleven tributes remained. her splintered mind is running a list : two from one, one from three, myself, one from
in a moment’s slip, she’s airborne. gravity hurdles her fifteen, maybe twenty, feet onto shaking ground. the pain radiating from bones is momentarily forgotten as she attempts to dodge debris. it’s an earthquake ! it’s as sudden in its abrupt end. two cannons roar signifying only ten competitors left.
birds are retreating from the west, and screams rumble from that direction too. the sound of cracking magnified follows eerily. it takes a second, but annie’s face hardens with the realization of the dam breaking. she’s jumping up on her feet quickly. ( time is of the essence. ) her body is sore and tender but higher ground is required. the same greenery that projected her minutes ago might be her solace once again. up and up and up she must go, a lot steeper than before.
tawny eyes never leave the west. agatha cresta told her from a young age that you never turn your back to the waves. eyes grow wide. it’s as if the flooding defied nature. ( the technological savvy of the arena didn’t need to follow the possible.) water poured in ways she’d only overheard from drunken sailors recollecting old wives’ tales. so when it finally approaches, it’s a deep breath in before annie allows the wave to take her.
the flood consists of freshwater, unlike the bodies in district four where saltwater felt like a blessing against sun-kissed skin. though it also lacks the frigidness ( which may have meant next to nothing to the tributes who rarely have access to the sea. ) people can endure it a bit longer. and as annie comes up for air, she can finally see others. they’re not close, but the now leveled horizon made it much easier to make out seven.
another cannon goes off ! ( that leaves only one unaccounted for. ) even when the currents were strong, she felt a calmness in the water. cresta was never one to fear that. she grew up by the sea. it makes it easier to investigate the bubbles floating to surface meters away. it’s the expulsion of oxygen. unsurprisingly to her, it’s from the ninth opponent.
seaweed encases his lower body, appearing harmless. ( people assume that algae is until it’s too late. ) annie never learned his name, but she knew the scrawny sixteen year old was from district three. ( he’s just a child ! ) she’d seen him twice in the arena, most notably near the tree she shielded herself in. just yesterday, she threw a piece of kindling at him as a means of notifying the tribute of some careers drawing in. exchanging a nod, soon two perished in his trap with the others retreating. his state now was ironic.
she gracefully swims closer. the reservoir is crystal, making it impossibly easy to keep her eyes open. his dagger shines and nimble fingers remove it from his belt. annie uses her free hand to steady the aquatic plant that dances underwater and begins to cut. it should be easy ! why isn’t it ? adrenaline is pulsing in his veins. he doesn’t have much time ! ( darling mags will inform her later that they’re genetically enhanced, and that there was nothing she could do. )
drowning is a terrible way to go, and the unluckiest will have their stomachs filled before the cruel loch goes for the lungs. annie can’t leave him like this. previously the blade felt weightless, now the heft makes her want to swim to the bottom of these waters. ( i’m sorry ! ) sound does not leave her lips but bubbles do. it’s no loss, she’ll be above water soon. the shiny weapon tears through his abdomen, going downward before she unsheathed it from skin. ichor flows along the current. the pressure of the water squeezing the poor vessel. eyes shut quickly. ( her own death count goes from zero to one. )
legs kick as she propels herself towards the sun. annie meets the air with a wail. ( he’s just a child ) repeating in her mind. it isn’t fair ! tears well and drip to the unsteady pool. there’s only four other faces now. did she miss the cannons ? are those missing alive but fatally submerged ? thoughts race without an end in sight. there’s no shore ! she can’t bring anyone to safety. and even if she could, they’d still have to fight to the death.
so she continues swimming. the echoes of the others losing their bouts with water ring behind her, only accentuated by the clang that reveals another fallen tribute. ( it’s the sound of struggling that particularly chips away at her sanity. ) soon, it’s her and the final careers. they’d turned on one another. a distance away from the bloodbath, annie witnessed as the district one girl forced her body weight down on the boy. hands rung around his throat, in a twisted, senseless mix of strangulation and drowning.
the blonde sneers at her, probably tasting a combination of blood and victory. the waves are picking up again, taking the serenity out of the water once more. she allows them to spur her as she treads away quickly. ( i’ll get you, there’s nowhere to go, and you can’t swim forever are just a few of the things that left the other tribute’s mouth like a mantra. ) the taunts hold weight. valora received the highest score during training ; annie had seen the terror she caused in the arena.
as menacing as the other tribute was however, she was a subpar swimmer at best. it’s when annie looks back at her for the final time that her eyes fixate on the scene directly behind valora. and while she laughs and comments on how annie was acting like a sitting duck, soon the wave crashes over her. seconds later, annie is under too. you never turn your back to the waves.
brief panic aside, soon she’s scoping the water for the district one girl. seaweed has acted like a spiderweb twice these games. while the first victim had the flight response, valora had the fight. teeth bared and screams are stifled by the liquid around her. a blade is in her fist. ( she’s unaware of her doomed fate. ) part of annie wants to give her the same merciful release she gave the boy, but it would’ve likely led to both of them bleeding out.
cresta drifts up slowly. and once she reaches the surface, she begins to float on her back. ( for a fleeting moment, it feels like district four. ) the restlessness of the flood has subdued ; the sun gleams in the sky. her features scrunch until she can’t hold the tears back anymore. some cluelessly ask her in the months following if that was her relief at victorship. her consciousness is solely focused on percy ... valora ... the young district three boy ... the others who drowned. their deaths were ones where she just stood by, incapable of saving them ; she traded their lives for her own.
how could anyone expect annie to celebrate after hearing the announcement ? “ ladies and gentlemen, i am pleased to present the victor of the seventieth hunger games, annie cresta of district four ! ”

Twitter be like "oh? Oh? You have 'rape', 'raped', 'raping' and 'rapist' muted already? Why, have you not considered muting 'rapes' too? POW!" and radiate the tweet right into your face
Meanwhile tumblr will take your hand gently and go "oh. You sweet innocent child. You have muted the word 'ntr' I see? Why, I will hide this one post talking about a 'country' in it! Heaven knows, you might see the Bad Word and we cannot allow that!"
And then it will show you like "HEY THIS POST CONTAINS THE WORD NTR! WATCH THE FUCK OUT" and you will be left wondering, "why the fuck is my mutual who has never once talked about ntr in their entire LIFE is suddenly talking about it?", until you check out the post in question and turns out that no. It has just been country all along
Meanwhile on Twitter, the yearly #Rape[character]Week week has already started and there's nothing you can do to stop the sudden and imminent influx of retweets from that one mutual of yours who's crazy into that kind of stuff
Oh and another thing, despite how overprotective tumblr can be with its muting system, the best thing that has ever happened to it was having separate mute tabs for words appearing in tags AND words appearing in posts
Like, you love a character but people have the coldest fucking takes about them? You like a ship but its haters are justifying their hatred of it with fallacies that would make even the ancient Greeks, CEOs of arguing, to shame? Why, just mute the word itself! Leave the tags intact because it's more likely that those who genuinely love the character/ship will merely tag it, meanwhile all the flaming trash about them will stay muted, because they're only named inside the post itself! It's so easy
Meanwhile twitter, the dumbass that it is, might hide the muted words that appear on your TL, but it absolutely will NOT hide them in search results and on people's pages. So if you're browsing your beloved mutual's profile then oh no, despite their careful and dedicated TWing, you will STILL get slapped with the tweet having "rape" in it
God anon you are SO FUCKING RIGHT, it's one of THE worst things about twitter and one reason i love tumblr's tagging & muting functions SO much. Sometimes I have friends who simply have kinks/interests/ships that I just cannot do, but I still love those friends and want to follow them and see their other work! I am so so SO pro "curate your own experience & attend to your needs, block filter & mute so that you have the ideal experience" but twitter is just a HORRID platform to do that on. Especially not being able to append tags to retweets without QRT-ing them- it's so hard when the only way to add a filter-able word to another person's art/post is to QRT it, which ESSENTIALLY makes an entire separate post (and is considered poor manners for many artists who don't like their work QRT'd)
It's SO nice to be on here and simply, filter things and know that if there's anything I need to filter I can simply ask my mutual to append a tag to it, which is easy to do and does not affect the original post in question. And being able to click through and check on muted posts means that if something DOES get caught by the overzealous filter, I can still check and see (plus getting a warning I am going to see something before I see it is often all i need to keep a trigger or squick from bothering me; i have time to prepare myself, hit 'ok' and then engage, with the extra resilience that a simple warning gives me. after all, most of the time, when i'm given a content warning for a movie/show/etc, i still consume the piece of media, just with a little extra delicacy/awareness/preparation to take breaks if i need)
anyhow you're so correct and this is another reason i cannot stand twitter and am glad i'm seeing more people revisit tumblr

literally when I talk about narcissism in the context of abuse ITS IN THE CONTEXT OF ABUSE. I'm not calling every person with npd abusive, I'm not saying the disorder inherently makes you an abusive person. But describing a set of behaviors as they relate to abuse is not calling everyone with the disorder an abuser. It's quite easy to see how someone with a narcissistic concept of the world who has power over someone (say, a child) could encourage enmeshment in a way that guarantees emotional support for the narcissist and not. Yknow. The growing child who needs to develop a sense of self. Just because the disorder is caused by abuse or neglect doesn't mean that the abusive person with the disorder is magically non-abusive. If we apply that logic, most child-on-child sexual assaults just wouldn't happen, and yet 'reoffending' is literally one of the largest topics of discussion around child on child sexual abuse/assault. Because MOST of it is due to reenacting said abuse. So stop taking what we say out of context

for: @senatusstarters
where: post plot drop, outside near the maze
Lain watched his own reflection distort in a puddle of fresh blood. What he was looking at he no longer recognized, the beast bore some resemblance to his lycan but was more grotesque and deformed. Yellowed teeth protruded from the edges of a pointed snout, the shape of the muzzle more crocodilian than wolf and its eyes were unblinking, jagged red slits. The veins on Lain's arms had turned black, the fingers on his left hand had already transformed into claws that looked like shards of obsidian. When he blinked, it was gone. A shrill, desperate scream caught his attention as he turned his head to see a woman get crushed in the massive jaws of a hulking monstrosity. The mortals trapped in this realm had been led here like lambs to slaughter, perhaps as some sacrificial offering to be  thrown at the feet of an unknown power.
The river of causality had run red with blood. Who would be fortunate enough to escape their doomed fate and break free of its flow? Just like a fish leaping from the water. "Hey! If anyone's still alive, answer me!" Lain shouted, frantic as he trudged through the piles of dismembered corpses scattered across the ground. “Serkan! Burak! Anton! Val! Flora! Emory!” He called out the names of friends and pack mates that he had encountered earlier in the night.
Standing alone amidst the carnage was Salvatore, an old, grizzled lycan that had been a part of the Arno Pack for decades.  His back was turned to Lain and the older man stood eerily still.  “Sal! Oh thank fuck you’re still ali-,” Lain’s words caught in his throat as hidden tendrils made of blood soaked sinew lifted the hollowed husk of Salvatore’s body up in the air, shaking him around like he was a puppet. Something had eaten the lycan from the inside, leaving only a broken shell of muscle, skin and bone.  The changelings broke the body in half, the tendrils feeding the corpse into the mouth of a massive creature.
