Also reblog if you are interested in these things because I don't have disenchantment fans as followers.
I just finished the last episode and before watching it, I thought about all the possible things that could influence the last episode and then it didn't explain any of them. I do have more questions too.
Like is there a connection between Bad Bean and Freckles.
The dept to Hell was RE paid. How many times did the family lineage of Dagmar's marry their eldest daughter to him? Or did they all promise to marry one of them to him someday.
How did Maru have ''natural'' magic to begin with?
How old is Malfus and where did he find the eternity pendant?
When Freckles said he is Bean's brother, Zog didn't say anything to deny that. When he said that he is just a poor bastard, did he mean it literally? If so, how could he have been Bean's ''back up''.
Why are the mermaids interested in going to Moon? Because of the association between the sea and Moon, or something deeper?
Why did Dagmar and Big Jo stay alive after all the deadly incidents?
Is Jester/Jest-O really an elf like in Bean's dream?
When Bean touched the knife in the mermaid skeleton, she saw scenes from the battle of falling water: who was the person using magic in that fight?

Anonymous asked: I don’t know if you caught King Charles III’s Christmas speech to the British nation but what did you think of it? I am a royalist but I always had my doubts about Charles and his championing of multi-faith harmony over his lack of Christian convictions (as opposed to the late Queen Elizabeth was a staunch Christian). Isn’t Charles just hastening the continued decline of the Christian heritage of Britain?
As it happens I did catch his Christmas broadcast as it’s very much part of the Christmas ritual in our home, like many other homes across Britain. This year it was very strange not to see the regal face of the late Queen. Her presence on television was very much part of the Christmas furniture as was the obligatory James Bond movie that often followed the broadcast. But there King Charles III was addressing the nation. It was perhaps the first time I truly realised that he was our king now - and I mean that as a compliment.
I’m afraid I’m not one of those who is convinced that Britain’s slide into Christian decline is perpetuated by King Charles III’s religious beliefs. When he delivered his Christmas speech to the nation, some were eager to read this into his words, just because he referenced other faiths other than Christianity. I understand the philosophical nonsense of squaring the multi-faith circle and worse how it can even dilute and undermine the distinctive and absolutist claims of non-relative religious movements so that they can be rendered increasingly irrelevant by an uncompromising secular rationalism. I understand all that. I just don’t buy it when it comes to King Charles III and his religious beliefs.
Of course before he became King, Charles’ view on religion, especially multi-faith beliefs, were always a source of alarm for some. He was accused of essentially showing sympathy for Perennialism  - a school of thought which holds that there is some degree of truth in all the world’s traditional belief systems  - and in doing so, Charles is guilty of undermining the exclusivity of Christianity and succumbing to a post-modern paradigm of cultural relativism. In holding this view he was seen by critics as heralding a world in which even the monarchy is too scared to defend its own values in the face of multiculturalism.
Tumblr media
But listen carefully to the speech again and I struck by the reverence with which he spoke of his Christian faith. His emotive account of his visit to Bethlehem, where he “stood in silent reverence by the silver star that is inlaid on the floor and marks the place of our Lord Jesus Christ’s birth” is surely a welcome surprise in 2022, the first year in history where Christians are officially a minority in England and Wales. It is certainly not something one would expect from an apparently post-modern monarch indifferent towards the disenchantment of the country.
Still, instead of celebrating this, some remain cynical - the reason being that Charles, as well as praising the social and charitable contributions of the church, also praised those of synagogues, mosques, temples, and gurdwaras. This isn’t a slide into 21st Century relativism and simultaneously a compromise of his own Christian convictions, but a recognition of people of strong faith being good citizens in a country they love.
Tumblr media
I think many critics underestimate King Charles’ own Christian convictions. I think he sincerely believes that there is one Light and one Truth in Christ. But it also dovetails with his soft Perennialist worldview in recognising the possibility for other faith traditions to also participate in that light and, perhaps, help to overcome the greater threat of secular modernity.
I’ve heard the argument from others that in fact Charles’ views on religion are remarkably similar to those of European Renaissance thinkers, who defended their appreciation of other faiths on traditional theological grounds. The 15th Century Italian Catholic priest Marsilio Ficino, for example, upheld the primacy of Christianity while also believing that other religions contained within them a glimmer of truth, the prisca theologia, and should be respected on this basis. For Ficino, this did not compromise his Catholicism; it simply showed that the love of God was universal, if perfected through Christ and Christ alone.
As it happens, other Renaissance thinkers saw this to be the ideal position for a monarch. For the 16th Century French political theorist Jean Bodin, the King should be the One above the Many, whose duty is to uphold the universal values shared by all people; to be the unity that transcends the multiplicity of sectarian difference. This entailed representing not only Christians of all denominations, but also Jews and Muslims. As an absolute monarchist, Bodin was deeply conservative by today’s standards, but even he saw it as perfectly acceptable for a King to honour subjects from religions other than his own.
So, as the argument goes, in living up to the ideals of Ficino and Bodin then Charles is some kind of Renaissance king. I’m not sure I completely convinced by that. But he is most certainly not a post-modern king. In many ways Charles is like his late mother in that he has a Christian faith - how strong is something I can’t determine, unlike the late Queen who was very devout and saw herself as a servant Queen serving her heavenly King. I am convinced Charles has Christian convictions and beliefs that are married to rituals of his royal identity.
Tumblr media
In 1994, Charles triggered controversy when he said he would be defender of faith rather than Defender of the Faith, in a desire to reflect Britain’s religious diversity. There were suggestions that the coronation oath might be altered. In 2015, he clarified his position in an interview with BBC Radio 2, saying his views had been misinterpreted. He said: “As I tried to describe, I mind about the inclusion of other people’s faiths and their freedom to worship in this country. And it’s always seemed to me that, while at the same time being Defender of the Faith, you can also be protector of faiths.”
He pointed out that the Queen had said her role was “not to defend Anglicanism to the exclusion of other religions. Instead, the Church [of England] has a duty to protect the free practice of all faiths in this country. I think in that sense she was confirming what I was really trying to say - perhaps not very well - all those years ago.”
Now, as he formally ascends the throne at his coronation almost three decades after that controversy, most people would agree that Charles should champion the right to religious belief and practice of all his subjects, not just that of the dwindling number of people in the pews of Anglican churches.
G.K. Chesterton wrote that “the opponents of ritual attack it on the ground that it becomes formal and hollow. So it does. But ritual only becomes formal and hollow where men are not sufficiently ritualistic.” I think Charles is deeply steeped into royal rituals and traditions which are strongly rooted in the Christian history of these British isles. I’m sure you will see this at his coronation which will amplify his Christian convictions.
What do I mean by that?
In 1820, The Black Book, a radical critique of the corruption and power of the English Establishment, made this comment on royal ritual: “Pageantry and show, the parade of crowns and coronets, of gold keys, sticks, white wands and black rods; of ermine and lawn, maces and wigs, are ridiculous when men become enlightened, when they have learned that the real object of government is to confer the greatest happiness on the people at the least expense.” Forty years later, Lord Robert Cecil, the future third marquess of Salisbury, having watched Queen Victoria open parliament, wrote with scarcely more approval: Some nations have a gift for ceremonial. No poverty of means or absence of splendour inhibits them from making any pageant in which they take part both real and impressive. Everybody falls naturally into his proper place, throws himself without effort into the spirit of the little drama he is enacting, and instinctively represses all appearance of constraint or distracted attention.
As Sir David Cannadine, the great British historian, suggests, the elite's desire to temper the radical consequences of democracy was a crucial reason for their invention of so many royal rituals since the later nineteenth century. Indeed, for Cannadine, it is precisely the 'invention' and performance of royal rituals and Christian traditions, perfected at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century, which prevented the British monarchy from suffering the same fate as its Austrian, Prussian and German equivalents.
Tumblr media
The Queen's coronation in 1953 was the first major international event to be broadcast on television, with an estimated 20.4 million viewers in the UK alone, 56% of the adult population. The coronation was the first media event seen by the majority of the population, and was for many their first experience of 'watching the box'. What people saw or were presented in the case of the British monarchy, were many references to its past by pointing out similarities between Elizabeth II and her famous predecessor Queen Victoria, by highlighting the longevity of rituals, or by implementing (seemingly old, but often invented) traditions in royal events like jubilees. In all of these cases, a diachronic genealogical link to the past is established in order to point to the institution's continuity, stability and anchorage in British history.
But Chesterton is onto something that has never really been talked about when we look what is behind the Christian symbology of rituals (real or invented).
Britain’s monarchy stands as the world’s only remaining state religious institution. The coronation is more than mainly a religious ceremony, as if that remaindered it for everyone not religious. It is a symbol among much else of the world’s oldest and only global narrative: God’s story. It goes all the way back to the crowning of Edgar by St. Dunstan in AD 973, drawing, it is said, an on even older Frankish ceremony. It takes place in Westminster Abbey, the national shrine. The oath is administered by the highest clergyman in the land. His office takes precedence even over the monarch himself. There is not just the formula “So help me God” repeated as does the U.S. president at the end of every secular statement; there is not simply an oath “upon my honour and integrity,” as in Turkey, or upon the honour of the nation, as in Ukraine.
Tumblr media
The new queen in 1953 was asked, “Will you to the utmost of your power maintain the laws of God and the true profession of the gospel?” And she, and now as Charles will, pledged to do this, kneeling at the altar of the greatest temple in the land, hand upon Bible; “the most valuable thing this world affords,” the priest intones. And of which the priest then adds:
Here is wisdom. This is the royal law. These are the lively oracles of God.
Then, in the even more amazing rite of unction that stretches in one unbroken line from the anointing of Solomon by Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet in the Hebrew Bible, the king is anointed with oil under a gold awning in a ceremony of the utmost holiness. The archbishop hands him the symbols of his rule:
Receive this orb set under the cross, and remember that the whole world is subject to the power and empire of Christ our redeemer.
It is this that is the radioactive heart of Britain’s monarchy, and the secret of its strength. I think King Charles knows this. And so King Charles III will, I hope, defend faith in such a way that accounts for the universal and particular, all the while remaining committed to Christianity, the fabric of Britain’s history and heritage.
Both the monarchy and its rituals are together a protection against tyranny and a remedy for weakness. For, long forgotten by secular pundits, it models itself on the Christian belief that authority is what it is because it has been crucified; that only Christ the servant king is truly powerful, and because all are fallen, all can be restored only through him. King Charles III’s speech was a reminder of the eternal Light that will outlive the rise and fall of worldly civilisations; just what the nation needs to hear at Christmas.

Today's thoughts reside on the relationship between Kaeya and Varka.
There is little that we know about Varka, apart from a few mentions regarding his connections to a few characters and the fact that he has embarked on a journey and took all the cavalry with him. The overall impression that we get is that he is highly respected and looked upon by the community, and even idealized by some, be it the knights, the citizens of Mond, or outsiders ( take Childe's opinion, for example ).
We also know for a fact that Kaeya tends to act in a somewhat dissimulated // cold // calculative way in order to attain his goals and that he bears no shame in his controversial methods. He fraternizes with the enemy, he has dealings with the black market, and he puts other people in risky situations. So you might be asking: Cláudia, what does one thing have to do with another? Well. There is a certain voice line of Kaeya that has always stuck with me:
"There are a total of ten captains within the Knights of Favonius. But truth be told, not all of them have what it takes to be leaders."
I know Kaeya is talking about the captains and not the highest positions of Acting Grandmaster and Grandmaster, but this voice line has always made me question the exact qualities that Kaeya approves of when it comes to leadership. And how Varka, precisely, seems to suit that role in Kaeya's eyes.
We know for certain that Kaeya's views are not one hundred percent aligned with the idealistic, heroic ambitions many KoF possess. Due to his life experiences, you can even say that he has a certain disenchantment with the way the world works ( in the sense that he views the world in different shades of grey. Not everything is marvelous and not everything is catastrophic --- good and evil both coexist, as do light and shadow, and that is the natural order of things ).
But what is interesting to me is that Kaeya approves Varka's way of operating. We do not know the exact details so far. We do not even know what the intent of the expedition that made Varka depart with the cavalry really is. We only know that it must be something grand for it to be so secretive and require so many resources, and important enough for the highest person in charge to entrust Mondstadt to the care of others. But Varka's modus operandi is mentioned by Kaeya multiple times:
"Now that you mention him, it is a shame there is no one in the Knights of Favonius to inherit the Grand Master's approach to his work. *sigh* I must say I really do appreciate people like him."
This gives me the impression that, although ethical, Varka must be someone capable of understanding the way the world works and acting realistically on it. That is to say: he might approach situations as someone who is not afraid to dirty their hands when the circumstances demand it. And someone who is not afraid to be secretive about his carefully crafted plans. Sounds familiar?
Kaeya and Varka have had a somewhat philosophical discussion regarding justice and what exactly it entails, and I wish we had more context about it. A debate concerning a topic so heavy seems to imply that their relationship is not merely one of employer and employee. Kaeya freely exposes his way of thinking to Varka, who no doubt has noticed Kaeya's special way of dealing with things:
"Justice is not an absolute principle, but the result of striking that fine balance between strength and strategy. As for the details of how it's done... Don't worry yourself too much about that." Kaeya once said these words in front of Grand Master Varka.
It is interesting to notice that, although Kaeya's methods may be questioned, people like his comrades and Jean still decide to follow and support him. They trust his intuition. Varka must be no exception. Not that their relationship is necessarily 100% based on trust: Kaeya has dismissed Varka's worries regarding his past and arrival in Mondstadt --- something that, too, confirms that Varka might suspect people's true motives easily, much like Kaeya does.
Even when the Grand Master demanded information on his background, Kaeya skirted around the issue and gave only vague answers devoid of details.
I really wish we had more information about these two, because all in all, this got me wondering about Kaeya's and Varka's methods of operating and whether they are similar in nature, in general, and their way of understanding each other, in particular.
Could it be that the inner workings of these two characters are somewhat similar? Varka certainly seems to be more righteous than Kaeya is, perhaps because his position demands it. But he still trusted Kaeya enough to allow him into their ranks, although he had demanded clarity from Kaeya before and was not met with it.
Only time will reveal the true purpose of Varka's expedition, his true character, his objectives, and the role the KoF will play in the grand scheme of things.

feeling ??? because it seems like i'm one of the few people who didn't like the ending of disenchantment lmao. i'm going to take a second to rant, sorry. under the cut
i DO like that miri/mop girl becomes queen since it was foreshadowed so much.
i didn't really like miri and elfo, it felt forced. i would say rushed too but that's true for most of the romantic relationships in disenchantment lmao. (like, i think bean and mora was also rushed but i did actually like their relationship)
i've seen complaints about bean's love speech and while i sort of get it, i didn't mind it because she didn't just mention mora. she was talking about her dad and oona and her friends too.
but i do think that speech sort of loses it's meaning bc then she fucks off and just leaves her friends to be with mora for the rest of her life i guess?? i find that so aggravating lmao. like they paired everyone off and separated them and i'm supposed to view it as a happy, satisfying ending. we went from season 2 where bean literally goes to hell to bring elfo back to... bean not even saying goodbye to him before she leaves.
and this goes with my other complaint that bean didn't seem to care as much about elfo and luci as she did mora. which is annoying. like, luci died too and he didn't even get a funeral. and then bean doesn't even care that elfo is still alive after she thought he died in the cavern? annoying. the prioritization of romantic love this season was wack!!! i think it's so jarring because there were 4 other seasons that weren't like this!!
i did like luci's one wish being for mora to come back to life for bean. it made me cry.
no honestly im so surprised so many people liked it. i thought this was the "hates when the found family is separated at the end of the series" website??? and this is a case where it's actually applicable!! ugh
i doubt anyone read this but if you did. hi? and i'm not going to argue with anyone about this, you cannot change my mind lol. i didn't like it. sorry!!

watching disenchantment season 3
big spoilers. i recommend it a lot. it can be harrowing, but the ending is so worth it. if you might watch it i recommend you do. otherwise, lets delve in.
the intro promises the love pendant to be broken and the screwed crown to be bloodied. those are very bad signs even with the better ones. a book that on a page is a stairway down? holy shit stealing that for my DND campaign. was that a visual gag, or what that more future plot points? and Bean has the endless conflict between the life she wants and the people she cares about. too good of a person to have a simple easy life.
on the one side Mora is being more rude then usual. on the other her girlfriend did just say no to running of with her over friends she doesn't know. damn, with a girlfriend like that Bean with have powerful AF muscles in no time, truly hope that's the way they're taking this. beating her mom with the strength literally gained from her girlfriend would be just so beautifully cheesy. satan is going to become a goodguy just to get rid of his wife isn't he. damn, that 3d was pretty good. i mean if you know what to look for you notice that it's not the 2d models, but you need to know to look for it. there are definitely some potholes in this one. like the conflict between Bean and Nora if you think too much about certain events does not line up, but when you just take it like a normal person it really works. don't know if i like the people constantly splitting up, but it does allow for more things to happens. it's simply hard to have too many people act at the same time and certain people make others largely useless. Elfo doesn't have a lot do to when Bean is around. he fits in small things and can be easily motivated, but that's it, any other activity Bean is simply better at. he works as friend of Bean of course, but she's less reliant on others to take action now. split apart there are just more conflicts that can be interesting.
yea, ok, this conversation is painful. i mean i get that that's the joke, but it's painful because it seems like a stupid way i could come across if i stopped worrying about how things i say come across, something i in general worry too much about making friendships incredibly hard. "it's like they took a nunnery and made it awesome", ah, a lesbian bar. oh, how odd that they did the same thing twise. first with lucy and now with bad beans body. of all parts of the body that you should not be hanging from THE HEAD IS NUMBER ONE! but the overall plan makes sense, i wonder if it'll come to fruition in a more willing manor. also pretty avatar legends of Korra. oh those are working together, that's not good. that means Bean is really running out of allies. fucking hell, i'm trying to watch this while doing something else. i end up just watching it. and then it comes with these strong cliffhangers meaning that stopping to watch is also really hard.
oh... he's just dead... fuck... that... sets stakes. i mean Elfo and Luci will probably be fine, but this may be the death of Miri. well, that's one problem... delayed some more, and another... solved, and replaced for getting lost.
ok, so yes, Elfo's death set a lot of bad things into motion, undoing it also removed Mora and the great relationship Bean has with Zog, if you could ask Bean it would be a hard question. OH, that's a fun plot twist. Miri isn't human? oh. that... well it explains nothing, but it's neat.
oh, she's finally allowed to start seriously winning. it really feels like an earned powerup. in part because it has been set up well, in other because FUCKING HELL LET HER BE HAPPY DAMNIT. oh. i thought they were allowed to get away to, idk, be a minibos later. nope, instead killed to set up some evilness.
oh. making her sound mad. yea, not a joke i think works in universe. like there's one fuck setting with a non mechanical function metal prosthetic. yes i know my immersion is broken by the strangest things but it's bugging me. damn, setting up something heavy, destroy yourself the saves the ones you love? i mean media in general says "do it and for your good deed you'll survive", but i'm afraid they won't do that here. it's either better, or much, much worse. maybe a reset and you get to rebuild your life, but i'm not fan of those endings either. don't undo everything we've grown to care about, even if it can be rebuild. one is planning to kill, the other is planning to delete.
everyone's coming together for (hopefully) the final finally. oh, the tune return. i wonder if there's a meaning to it or if it's just creepy for creepy sake. fuck this battle has some epic moments. i mean there's only so much you can do with the animation style, but fuck they truly do everything possible with it. NO, you can't do that. healing magic? not real? i was fearing that, the scene seemed awfully similar before. DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE END IT LIKE THAT!
yea, no, obviously there's no care left. for episodes it was set up she cared most for Mora. the show has struggled at times to set things up, Beans magic, was probably the only thing set up more. the only motivation could be the same as Dracula in the castlevania show: a long suicide. a rocket, to the moon? why though? well fuck, now everyone is dying. i'm hoping not permanently, but i don't trust it isn't. :O he killed god "love conquers everything, and anger helps"
goodbye Bean is not a promising title, especially after the last episodes cliffhanger. AND NO i will not be ok with Bean and Mora being together in heaven. oh, magic came from the tears of joy of angers mixed with steam from hell. what will tears of sadness do? i just realized what i want: i want dangmar to have a third act breakdown finally. i love Luci's arc. it has totally nothing to do with that i wrote his speech multiple times already in less elegant words. "i've always hated weddings, especially my own" the show has such good lines. not the gay wedding i was expecting, but still one i'm very happy about. i love an overly happy ending. finally a happy ending, it was such a long wait, but it was worth it. YES, finally the third act breakdown.
wait... but the world is flat. so how it it on the other side of the moon? also what a random reveal. it adds nothing, it takes nothing away. it's "what a twist!"
incredibly unbelievable happy ending. I LOVE IT!!! literally every plot point is is resolved, even the ones even i forgot about.
seriously the show had a lot of frustration to it, victories often fell flat, setbacks and defeats were often and big, and as someone who likes happy endings it was often dreadful. honestly i don't know why i kept watching. i guess just something made clear they had plans. sure, details about people plans seemed often not fully planned out in advance, but the arcs of characters? those were old, and they revealed they were working up to the happy ending i was after for so long. Really good series, highly recommend, fuck me if it can't be harrowing, which is why i'm writing it at 2 am because i needed to get to the end.
and i finally got the best way to describe it: the show is cynical, but not pessimistic.

I just finished Disenchantment Part 5 for the fourth time & I just have to say. AHHHH. I know a lot of people aren’t super happy with it & that’s valid, I can tell they had another part planned. But for what they were able to do, I assume because of strikes & Netflix being.. Netflix, they did an amazing job. I feel like there weren’t THAT many things left unanswered. That said, there were still a few, like who exactly is Freckles because he clearly wasn’t born as a puppet? Why does Ms. Moonpence have human ears & arms? What was the Øg curse? What was Dagmar’s plan exactly?
However. I’m alright with that not all being answered. I feel like they left it open ENOUGH so that they could continue, but closed off most things & gave everyone a happy ending so that they wouldn’t need to. Goodbye Bean is my favourite episode in the show & I can say that confidently.
I said in a previous post but I’m genuinely very satisfied with Luci’s ending. Jerry’s too. I thought it was sweet. Luci, the guy trying to prove himself as evil the whole show while clearly being a good person finally accepting & being okay with the fact that he’s good after doing the thing that literally saved all of existence. Then becoming an angel. That’s beautiful. :(( (oh yeah plus Jerry being God’s favourite & ending up in heaven. Plus finally taking God down a notch, you could see in his eyes how tired he was all throughout his time in heaven & it took him killing God, then helping Luci save God to bring back hope).
Not a huge fan of “everyone gets paired off” as an aroace but I’m glad that of my six favourite characters (I can’t pick okay), only one (Miri) got paired off in Part 5. Luci, Jerry & Oona all stayed single, while Odval & Sorcerio were together since before the show & they got married waaa. One gay wedding cancelled? It’s okay here’s another one <33
I loved the Oona appreciation, & I loved how she treated Jasper, that was so sweet. Speaking of Jasper WHAT A MOOD, most of his lines were “ew” & like. Same I said ew every time he did.
Btw did anyone notice that Odval’s first & last lines are low-key relevant to each other? The juxtaposition is so funny when you put them together. “You’ve had your fun, now it’s time to get married. Would your highness care to get in?” *cut to his own wedding* “oh goddammit!”
Chazzzzz’s first & last lines are also kinda similar, he said he dreamt of being a king once, & his last line is “Royal Chazzzzz” (I know it’s a play on royal flush, but it’s just funny haha).

didnt expect a matt groening project about an alcoholic princess to make me cry at the end but here we are.
disenchantment is legitimately great. not a masterpiece, the first season (and even the second to an extent) feels a bit grating and vanilla.
luci seemed a bit too similar to bender for me, i wanted to shove my face through a wood chipper everytime elfo opened his mouth, and bean... actually, i liked bean, i thought she was entertaining with how selfish she was.
i kept watching tho, since i felt like the show had potential.
boy, am i glad i kept watching.
season 2 and 3 really got me invested with the plot and i started to appreciate luci more. (i still hated elfo, but that hatred persists to this day) characters started to develop and the world felt more and more fleshed out
quick caveat tho, this isn’t really a comedy. if you think of it as such, you will not have a good time. the point of the show isn’t the comedy. sure it’s there but it is not the main feature. the core of the show is the story and the characters. disenchantment is way more entertaining if you think of it as a fantasy show that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
of course, i can understand why someone doesn’t like it.  there are many reasons why someone doesn’t like it. it’s pretty different from other matt groening shows and the comedy can be a bit toothless.
some characters can be a bit much for someone. the show gets a bit cheesy and melodramatic at some times, but that shit is my jam. i love stupid plot points and stakes that just keep getting higher to the point of insanity. i like shows that can just be stupid fun.
for my sake and yours, please try it out.

c3 e53 first half
my thoughts and favorite moments :)
"I gouge out my eyes" Aabria is all of us
"ya'll are so dangerous"
"half fucked up half fuckable"
FRIDA is held together by tongue straps = canon
"i hope that they're around to worry about us" *sob*
"can i have advantage? DM to DM? homie to homie?"
"the death ward stings like a sunburn today" that is such a beautiful way to portray Deanna's mixed feelings and tension in the moment
i had so many thoughts last week while Chet and FRIDA were fighting about the fact that Deanna had given the death ward to Chetney and how awful it would've been if it had come down to that... the amount of guilt Deanna would've felt...
FRIDA seems so unconcerned for their own wellbeing, worried more about how their coat got damaged during the fight than about getting bitten...
is it an Aeormaton thing of wanting to have all these new experiences and opportunities for new recordings?
is Deanna used to having to put the death ward on FRIDA because they are so willing to throw themself at danger?
i desperately want Deanna to knit clothes for Pâté
it's the house her family lived in oh hon
"too much stuff in my brain, sometimes it just leaks out" i feel that
"it's bad to make checks when you're sad" correct
it's been a while since we've heard the whispers of Uk'otoa (Uk'otoa)
guys i'm begging you please just ask one of the guards wtf is going on
"mass magical disenchantment" hmm good sign
"a deep diminishing of divination" *gulp*
"Scribewarden Ressia Uvesic" weren't they in campaign 2?
"you're worried about money during an Applebees solstice?" a very American take
"every new detail is bad" vibes
laura stop talking about Keyleth in the past tense right this instant that's not okay
VAX'ILORB
"magically bound prisoners who escaped" that has so many wildly awful implications my dudes
ominous ground-shaking rumbling is never a good sign
"have you ever heard of fear-reading before?" why yes Mr. Mercer i have engaged in fear-reading multiple times myself
Laura nearly killing Aabria with an M&M was beautiful
Travis "i might not be able to help myself" Willingham
why are all the Aeormatons so habitually self-sacrificing?
bad things are happening downstairs...
knocking coming from inside the basement is never a good sign
the way Taleisin predicted FCG's death-wish impulsivity getting the group into trouble on 4sd...
"this is bravery... we're going to overcome it and prove our worth" now is not the time for martyrdom FCG
weeping angel vibes...
was the statue something that was petrified?? or some sort of golem they thought was disenchanted?? like something they were keeping as a trophy, but now with all the dispelled magic it's 'back'
"Great Beasts of Veluthil" sounds like the name of a very friendly ally for sure

on tsukasa and don quixote, (transcribed from my insane discord rambles so apologies if it isn't coherent yet. i plan on writing a full essay about leo + tsukasa + don quixote allegories once i'm done rereading checkmate). under a readmore bc this got longer than i expected and . no one wants 3 paragraphs of don quixote analysis
tsukasa compares himself to don quixote and the windmills. screenshot not found bc i'm . so past that point now and i was reading at 1 am last night that's why i didnt write it then. basically, the windmills is one of don quixote's first (+ most iconic) 'quests' on his journey to become a knight wherein he thinks these giant windmills are many-armed giants, tries to fight them, and gets. horrifically injured because these are windmills and not actually mythical beasts. also he's an old man that kind of sucks at being a knight. the point of the windmills is that don quixote's warped perception of reality due to his archaic values causes him to act foolishly and get physically harmed as a result with nothing to show for it
it's a good use of that allegory in context!! like REALLY good i need to think about it more but. it's a good way to represent what tsukasa is talking about in that passage, which is how he clings to the archaic values of high society in a way that makes tori pity him. not entirely a 1:1 because tsukasa IS approved by the society around him but its within a bubble and i think the point is that the way tori chooses to live in transgressing those norms and values calls to attention how tsukasa can be foolish and blind to a version of reality + his own desires in the quest to adhere to these archaic values and get the apprival of the people around him. it's a good use of it. approved from your local guy who likes don quixote a bit too much
the other thing that i liked about it (and this is why i said i need to reread checkmate) is that it also positions tsukasa similarly to leo, the person who gets allegorized as don quixote in checkmate. considering this is in requiem (aka . The knights succession story and where tsukasa shows proof of his maturity and growth as well as literally takes over the position of king that used to belong to leo) it's . smartly done. really smartly done. i really want to review my old thoughts on checkmate + don quixote and how they stack up now because the. second book of don quixote as it relates to leo could be interestingly applied to tsukasa as well (especially with the running theme of maturing/realism/growing up that surrounds the repayfes stories and the disenchantment/disillusionment/"maturing" that don quixote goes through in the second half of the book) but i don't have enough to say from that lens as of right now. tune back in for an essay in like two months i guess
anyways. if you read all this i hope u had fun. i regrettably care a lot about don quixote

im here!!! noisy anon 🙈 i wanted to ask you where are you from, first of all! also this is mostly because i’m at a point in life where i have no idea what i want to do : what’s your job and how did you come to find this path in your life? 🤔
Hello again! I’m originally from Brazil but I’ve been living abroad for the past 5 years. I work for a consulting firm which may sound fancy but in reality it’s a stressful, target-oriented call center-ish environment. I hate it but I’m good at it and because I work well under pressure I’ve been promoted twice and so I’m staying until I can find something that pays me better to work fully remote 🥲
I’ve had the luxury of getting to choose my graduation and really loved my field of study but my current job has little to do with it. This is something that took me a long time to accept, the disenchantment of making a materialistic choice to sacrifice both my mental health and intellectual gratification, but the immigration process has significantly affected my career path too. That means I can’t offer many helpful insights, except maybe for this one: a job is just a job. It serves a purpose and almost anyone can be trained to do anything. And that can be a comforting thought when we’re feeling lost and/or aimless, I guess?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s wonderful to work with something you love and get that feeling “YES, this is where I belong.” I’ve been there and it was extremely hard to let go. But most people don’t ever get the chance to experience a dream job because real life responsibilities rarely allow us the luxury of waiting for it. So whenever I get disheartened thinking that I had to take so many detours that I’m not at all where I wanted to be, I take a deep breath and decide to be gentle to myself, and understand that I did my best within the circumstances. Once I fully realized that my job is just a way to pay my bills and does not (or should not) reflect my value I felt much lighter and started seeing things in a different way. That includes pursuing activities that bring me joy - such as fandom - for the simple pleasure of it, without feeling guilty for “wasting time in a non-productive way”.
I won’t offer personal advice because I don’t know your struggles and I reckon education/job systems differ a lot from county to country, and now that I think about it I don’t think my commentary was all that helpful 🤣 but I can offer this post as a space for more people to share their insights on this topic. You’ve got this, anon!

I found your blog a few months ago and when I was a fan I always had in the back of my head that H is not who he says he is and that my expectations of him as an artist are a bit too high because he doesn’t have that special quality like a lot of the great ones have. Over the past couple of years, I found myself disenchanted with H and for a lack of a better word just disengaged. I feel like there are a lot of fans who do feel this way. My thoughts
I think most of us were fans or indifferent or just felt positively about him at some point to some degree. At one point it seemed this whole "nice guy" stuff was something different and felt charming. The fans would also push this narrative that he was secretly deeply intellectual and thought a great deal about all kinds of social issues and it was very easy to buy into it, as nobody ever asked him anything of substance. I think the disenchantment began for most of us while he was even in the band, the distancing with the others, the clear attempt to cultivate his own brand and quest for solo superstardom. But people ignored it, because surely he couldn't be that conniving and egotistical?
To see who he's become now... sorry, to see who he has revealed himself to be, has been very whiplashing. The person most fans love is just an illusion, one created by a team of people and cultivated by his fans. One that rehearses PR answers, is given a list of PR questions, sits in interviews with all the closest bestest Azoff allies. One given a red carpet to superstardom without any of the real work. He is who his fans want him to be. He wants to be a genuine legend, one of the biggest most beloved icons in the world. A Michael Jackson, Prince, Elvis, Madonna, Beyonce... without any of the talent or hardwork. Just by convincing enough people that he already is that. And if you have allies all over the media who are willing to get in on this for the internet clout, the magazine sales, the payola... it's not the hardest thing to get away with.
I think his fans see blogs like this and posts like this and there's something in the back of their minds that knows what we're saying is true. That he's a fraud. That he's a greedy corporate capitalist to an almost sociopathic degree. That he's queerbaiting. That he seems to be surrounded suspiciously by the worst people. That he seems suspiciously to also be a bad or less than good person. I think people want to cling on to who they thought he was because it was a nice idea, but these things bother them and for many they come and search these blogs out because he has recently done something that embarrasses them or confirms to them that yes, he did it again, something cringe or fraudulent or dumb or scammy or greedy. And eventually that gets too much and people start accepting he isn't who they thought he was and get annoyed or angry about him, because now they can see through him too.

Hi, sorry that was me who literally dunked on your hopes for a soft Vader lmaoooo. I just think that when Vader is in the question, we have to acknowledge that he has the Dark Side and the potential to hurt those around him at all times and it makes him a little more untethered, but that's sort of his glory as well.
He's unpredictable and possessive, tolerating no slander or harm your way. When traveling in a floating city, having someone willing to protect you from what lurks in the shadows (by quintessentially being your shadow) should bring you solace. I think of situations where his possessive and obsessive nature would bring comfort, and all I can think of are those dire situations - ones of failed assassination, kidnapping, collateral damage from battle, and other situations where you are in harms way - and I think of the mania that would run rampant in his brain.
Are you severely hurt? What is the quickest way to you? Who caused this to happen? What could he have done better to prevent you from being caught up in attempts to hurt him?
No matter what, he perishes the thought of your potential death. His sense of love has been skewed into a direction of codependency; he cannot be without you. Any and every moment without knowing you are alive and well in the back of his mind is a moment many would fear for. It does mean he is overbearing and aggressively doting, but you know him. He needs certain things to be constant - how he sets up the cockpit of his TIE fighter, the order of the buttons on his belt for his life support system, the layout of his quarters across his residences - and you are certainly one of the things he needs at all times.
Times have passed since initial doubts and clumsy assassinations, but there are stirs of disenchantment among the crew that Vader is quick to snuff out. There are many things he will risk, but your safety is not one of them. If it makes him out to be an asshole, so be it. He'd destroy planets for you, he'd crush enemies and allies alike if they so much as caused you discomfort. Nothing will ever be too much for him to ensure that you stay by his side, protected and loved in his own convoluted ways.
NO NO DONT APOLOGIZE ITS OKAY i enjoy my fair share of angst every now and again
i think youre absolutely right tho in saying that he DEFINATELY shows his dark side too whilst in a relationship. There's times where hes wayyyy too overprotective and sometimes even controlling. Its not because he wants you to obey his demands or something of the sort, he just wants to make sure youre safe. Everyone hes ever loved has either abandoned him or died, and he refuses to let you be the same. He's gonna make sure youre protected at all times, and that you're accounted for at all times.
He does truly love you, but sometimes hes just bad at showing it. His judgement is clouded by the dark side, sometimes without him even realizing. Its also very clouded by his trauma as well. Bad stuff has happened to him far too much, and he expects the worst to happen no matter what, especially when it comes to your safety.
Have patience with him though, he is trying his best

Daniel Kaluuya's "Barney" Movie Will Have an "A24-Type Feel" As It Leans Into "Millennial Angst"
Get ready, millennials, Barney will reportedly be just as disillusioned as the rest of us in the upcoming "Barney" movie from Mattel and "Get Out" star Daniel Kaluuya. In a wide-ranging The New Yorker report on July 2, Mattel Films executive Kevin McKeon shared new details about the purple dinosaur's big screen adventure, which is still a work in progress several years after its announcement in 2019. According to McKeon, the movie is set to be a "surrealistic" film with the feel of an artsy A24 movie (think recent best picture winner "Everything Everywhere All at Once"). "We're leaning into the millennial angst of the property rather than fine-tuning this for kids," McKeon said. "It's really a play for adults. Not that it's R-rated, but it'll focus on some of the trials and tribulations of being thirtysomething, growing up with Barney - just the level of disenchantment within the generation." That's certainly a departure from the original "Barney & Friends" TV show's classic "I love you, you love me..." philosophy. However, this isn't the first time that the creatives behind the film have hinted that it's not designed to be your typical children's movie. In a 2020 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kaluuya said he planned to tap into the "heartbreaking" side of Barney's story. He explained, "Barney taught us, 'I love you, you love me. Won't you say you love me too?' That's one of the first songs I remember, and what happens when that isn't true? I thought that was really heartbreaking. I have no idea why but it feels like that makes sense. It feels like there's something unexpected that can be poignant but optimistic." Variety first announced Mattel Films and Kaluuya were teaming up to produce a live-action "Barney & Friends" movie in 2019. "Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood," Kaluuya said in a statement at the time. "We're excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of 'I love you, you love me' can stand the test of time." "Barney & Friends" originally aired from 1992 to 2009, and the show featured an imaginary, talking tyrannosaurus rex that used song and dance to teach young children important life lessons. Kaluuya will produce the new version of the project through his production company, 59%. "Working with Daniel Kaluuya will enable us to take a completely new approach to Barney that will surprise audiences and subvert expectations," Mattel's Robbie Brenner said. "The project will speak to the nostalgia of the brand in a way that will resonate with adults, while entertaining today's kids." https://www.popsugar.com/family/live-action-barney-movie-is-happening-46780322?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

Suddenly I am a child again, looking up at the parents who cannot provide what they had promised. It hurts, of course. But you know they cannot give. You know that after you've been let once, twice, too many. But you cannot be mad. Money is tight and your needs are oh-so little compared to the problems they face. In the end, you learn not to expect anything from these people who say they love you. You grin and thank them for the thoughts, for the sentiment, yes. But in the end-
Well, in the end, it doesn't matter. Nothing will come of it. Nothing but disappointment.
Now I am older and I look at you. I look at promises of time spent together, longingly at promises of assurance. You say the words easily enough, after all. And of course, of course I try to believe you.
But in the end (is it the end?),
I hold empty shells in my heart.
They cannot give, you cannot give. It is not that they don't love me, but they just can't.
Do you love me?
Please tell me. Otherwise,
Otherwise,
Otherwise I forget.
In the face of aridity and disenchantment...
I've forgotten how it goes already.
Perennial, it says, I think.
I don't know.
This weight in my chest is becoming lighter.
