Why do you love the Legend of Zelda? What first drew you to it?

Honestly, i just love Link lmao

Twilight Princess was the first Zelda i tried to play as a kid, meaning i begged my big bro to play until he got to a wolf part and i would play that bit. And when he refused to play for me, i tried to play by myself but never got very far because i didn't understand english and i just wasn't very good at the game.

So that was my first exposure to LoZ and my next Zelda experience would come +10 years later and it would be my downfall.

I bought my Switch late 2018 when Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee came out and later when i was looking for more games to buy, i came across BOTW and went "Hey, i know that guy". I was intrigued by the open world aspect and the game just looked really fun so i bought it, played it and fell in love.

Eventually through BOTW i found LU and all the other AUs im reading and the brainrot has been real ever since. I've also bought more Zelda games and thanks to my switch membership i have access to the older games, but i've only finished Link's Awakening, ALBW, BOTW and Minish Cap lol. So many things to do, never enough time.

#ask #ofc there's also other things and characters i love #but Link is just one of the most blorbos ever #i also tried to play TP as a teen but again never got too far #i ran into some helmasaurs and couldn't figure them out #so i just threw my hands up and said 'fuck this game and fuck this wii' lol #also at one point i bought a used gameboy advance from a friend plus a bunch of games #and there was alttp + four swords combo #obviously i couldn't play four swords but i did try alttp #problem was that i couldn't see shit thanks to the thunder storm at the beginning 'cuz there's no lights on the gameboy screen #and no matter how i tried to position my table light i just could not see anything so i gave up on that too lmao

okay so obviously the bender/non-bender oppression that exists in tlok isn't really shown to exist in atla - especially in the southern water tribe, it's like the opposite, and then outside of the southern tribe most benders are persecuted by firebenders.

and then fire is the element of power, which is thematically why they're imperialists - fire nation rhetoric during the 100 year war is based around the power inherent to fire making the nation as a whole superior

so in terms of bender supremacy (what a weird phrase lol) emerging after the war it makes sense to me that it's essentially just neo-fire-supremacist propaganda. like it's a radical ideology that places benders as the in-group and non-benders as the out-group - moreover, it presents all benders as more powerful than non-benders and says that they're entitled to a superior position in society because of that power.

like, obviously that's just tried and true fascism, that's just how non-bender oppression works whether it's tied to fire supremacy or not. but the fire nation were ideologically fascist (or, as fascist as you can get in a nickelodeon show) and fascist rhetoric gets repackaged and reborn all the time after a fascist state is dismantled. rebranding fire supremacy to be bender supremacy just tracks as a method of doing exactly that.
