For me, Jaune Arc will always be the second protagonist of RWBY because of certain plots that would never happen if it weren't for him.
So what do you the story would have been like if Jaune got removed? Like he was never a character.
Alright...
If Jaune was never a character, then I would assume none of Team JNPR would be characters. Following the story, we have Team RWBY going to Beacon and making it to the end of initiation with only the Nevermore fight. Aura is never explained, and we move along to Jaunedice, where we have the bully arc of Velvet getting tormented by Cardin. Blake comments about how terrible it is and maybe Ruby tries to step in to help, only to get shoved away because Cardin is bigger. Ruby and Cardin get into a fight and maybe Cardin tries to blackmail Ruby. This is resolved either by her coming to her team or by her showing that she's leagues above Cardin as a huntress and threatens him to not bully anyone ever again. And then Volume 1 continues the same as it did in canon.
Overall... A pretty alright show, nothing stellar. However, I feel like people writing off Jaune as a "useless" character that serves no purpose miss out on some pretty important moments in the series, like ESTABLISHING AURA. And yeah, sure, you could wave it off as something that could have been explained with or by someone else, but Jaune is supposed to be the John Everyman character who's thrown into the series with barely any knowledge like the other members of the cast.
So yes, Jaune Arc is an important character.

When observing potential Knightfall there is an interesting duality present in both of Cinder's literary allusions, Cinderella and Dauphin from Joan of Arc story. That duality being elements that both characters are simultaneously at the bottom and at the top of social pyramid.
Cinderella is servant girl that thanks to magical powers (of either Fairy Godmother or wish granting tree, depending on a version) becomes a princess. Dauphin is nominally a King, but due to his circumstances he holds almost no power. According to the legend, when Joan first met him, he was dressed as a common courtier (and there are anecdotes that he wore torn up shoes due to being unable to pay his shoemaker for repairs).
So one has outward appearance of royalty but was actually a servant, while the other has appearance of servant but was in fact royalty.
So which one is Cinder? She is simultaneously both, she is both a servant and royalty. She holds almost godlike power that would make her akin to royalty, but at the same time she is trapped, Grimm arm holding her on metaphorical leash.
So her redemption should also center around both. Jaune recognizing that Cinder is someone broken beneath her mask and offering her his hand. However, her redemption should also center around her embracing her duty as Fall Maiden and using that power for good.

Jaune would be listening to that with a flushed face as he held two plates of breakfast for both of them, She would look at him now with a mischievous expression on her face.

Ruby: “Because I’m yours. I like smelling like you and smelling you all the time. I like being wrapped up in your smell. Because I love you. It makes me feel small and safe at the same time.”

Jaune: “What am I going to do with all these clothes you guys are making me buy? I’m still just going to wear pretty much my huntsman get-up around.”
Weiss: “No you’re not. You’re going to wear casual clothes on casual days. You can wear your hunting clothes to work and if they ever call your number for missions but on Saturdays and Sundays you will wear casual clothes and you will like it. I like my hunting clothes too. But I also like wearing casual stuff and I want to steal your hoodies and I want them to smell like you so you better be wearing them.”
Ruby: “Come on, Jaune. You don’t want to just see us in our hunting clothes, do you?”
Jaune: “I could look at you in that tight corset all day long.”
Ruby: “Well I don’t want to wear that tight corset all day long. It’s hard on my boobs.”
Jaune: “I’m hard on your boobs.”

Weiss: “Yeah. I like it.”
Ruby: “Me too. I think I like this one the most. DIbs on this hoodie.”
Jaune: “I haven’t even worn it for five minutes."
Weiss: “He could be a model for it. Put that in a poster and ship it. It would sell like hotcakes.”
Jaune: “What am I trying on next?”
Weiss: “Some shirts and jeans and sweatpants. A full wardrob."

My analysis and theory for a possible arc for volume 10 of jaune
Good afternoon everyone, Just a warning, this post contains some spoilers.
Something that I analyzed with the episode is this issue of Jaune's time on the island and off it, and this issue of mentality divide and well the only thing that left him standing was his friends and the comfortable situation shown in the bonfire scene. In my view, Jaune is going through the ''spider man'' dilemma. He unintentionally achieved something that put a history in the world, a symbol for many people, but he also still feels confused because of the issue of becoming old and young again, Jaune He is no longer just a hunter, he is one of the historic figures in the RWBY universe.
Having him and Oscar talking about this is something very incredible to see because both characters are going through something similar.
Theory session
That's why I theorize that if we had a volume 10 it could explore a lot of things but for me I hope it explores Jaune apologizing and renewing his friendship with Ruby, It's something that very well established in volume 9 explores Weiss and Jaune's relationship because they were both helping each other a lot during the screen time they both had, and there's also a very good analysis about the ship on tumblr that I recommend you all read too.

Dark Au Timeline 2
So in this post I'm going to write and talk about my ideas from the end of volume 2.
Field Trip
Well the ep would start like in canon just changing the focus and being placed on Jaune's team, And the scene with team CFVY could be Penny and Jaune trying to apologize or make peace so at least establishing a healthy relationship between the teams, At the end we would have Glynda revealing that she would be the JPC team's guide for the field trip.
Search and Destroy
We would have the team visiting Moutain Glen, Glynda could comment facts about the Grimms to the 3 of them and during the ep we could have Glynda talking to each one separately asking their motivation which I imagine would go something like that, With Penny if she is calm about this Acting as a beacon student, he preferred this side of Ironwood as a weapon or royal guard. (Maybe we can even get a reference from Ace oops) With Ciel it would be almost the same question but in itself Glynda would address more the topic of socialization and humanity showing that she doesn't always have to act like a soldier, With Jaune it would be as if it were a regular consultation between the two of them, but she would address the issue more about whether he is comfortable being a leader of the two and whether he believes he can continue in this hunter's life.
Mountain Glenn
We could have Penny be the night watchman and with her ''possible'' aura sensors she could see an area that had a high concentration which she would inform everyone in the camp, They would go to the location discreetly and there they would find Roman with the white fang and with them there would be a member that we would know but they wouldn't, Ilia would serve as second in command and Roman would be the main one. They would end up meeting and a fight would start taking them onto the train.
No Brakes
We saw the team entering and fighting some members of the white fang until they separated and went into different cars. Penny would be against that member of the white fang with a chainsaw, Glynda and Ciel would go ahead together, Now Jaune I have two choices Neo or Ilia to have this fight, But in both he would lose but Penny would arrive in time in the carriage to save him. After a long time the train would end up leaving the train and crashing into the city but because Glynda was there she could use her Semblance to avoid less destruction but she would be extremely tired after that.
Breach
The episode would start with some iron wood students and soldiers arriving at the scene helping anyone injured at the scene, Roman would be arrested however we could see illia meeting with adam and the rest of cinder's team, and we could have a scene from adam talking to illia and she yells at him because he won't let her move forward and finish off jaune because of the plan he has with cinder and roman's team.
