my take on the silly hedgies………
once again i throw a lazy sketch at yall!! oops!
….anyways i guess i should write abt my headcanons here or smth (that would make sense)
in general,
hedgehogs assigned female at birth grow less fur. their tummies/chests are typically bare as well as their arms, but there’s still a thin layer of velvety fur that blends into the thicker fur around the shoulders and the rest of the body. for beauty reasons, some cis afab hedgies will choose to shave the thin fur so it appears neatly styled. afab hedgies also have naturally occurring downwards-pointed quills that are typically shorter than their amab counterparts, ending around the shoulders or upper back. these can be easily styled into upwards-pointed quills should they choose to.
amab hedgehogs grow more fur and have puffy white chests. their arms and tummies are covered in the same type of fur as the rest of their bodies. as for their quills, they are naturally pointed up and are usually long. if styled downwards, their quills can reach the amab hedgie’s lower back or behind.
taking testosterone can make thicker fur grow on the arms and tummy/chest, among many other side effects. similarly, taking estrogen can thin out coarse fur.
moving on!!
for sonic:
-early to mid 20’s
-goes by he/it pronouns, afab, takes testosterone & has had top surgery
-has autism+adhd, and thanks to trauma from years of fighting — probably riddled with depression or ptsd
-he’s a bit of a clown! sonic likes to make its friends smile, and is really good at cheering others up through humor
-honestly, personality wise, i think of him as being the more mature version we see in the IDW comics or in sonic frontiers. super confident in itself, even if it’s almost guaranteed to be defeated. it will just keep pushing through. this trait can come off as reckless and self-endangering however, and he definitely sits through lectures about this behavior from his loved ones. he is a super high-masking person, and once the mask is on for the day, he finds it very hard to take it back off.
-while it is afraid of being in deeper water, it’s fine taking baths or being in showers and even enjoys reading about fictional creatures that originate from the ocean such as mermaids and sea monsters
-chocolate is just too sweet for him most of the time, but he enjoys a nice pastry or cheesecake
-loves jazzy pop music, alternative rock, 80s music, gentle melodies, and super upbeat EDM. wakes up everyday with a song already playing in its head and thinks of its brain like a radio station that can flip between channels
for shadow,
-older than sonic by a year and a half (not counting the 50 year coma lmao)
-goes by he/they pronouns, afab, used to take T (recently stopped, feels like he doesn’t need it anymore) & has had top surgery
-has autism, dyslexia, generalized anxiety & depression.
-left-handed
-very closed-off individual who finds it very difficult to make new friends. he appears as being very intimidating to people who aren’t familiar with him, especially on days when the flat affect is strong. they’re a pretty serious and literal guy most of the time, but they have their silly goofy moments when around people they really trust and when they’re in the mood for it. they don’t remember much from their past besides the big important parts, and he overthinks about the future a lot, to the point that he can start to cry (in private).
-shadow’s friend group is extremely tight— only sonic, rouge, and omega have been allowed to see underneath the barriers. even despite this, he has trouble opening up to them because he’s afraid of pushing them away or thinks the content he enjoys is too embarrassing to share (even though sonic would go ballistic and enjoy it too, and he knows this, but shadow’s first reaction is still to hide it).
-absolutely adores coffee and sweet things. they have a lot of sensory issues when it comes to vegetables, and normally stick with a diet of primarily pasta, chicken, beef, or rice.
-loves hard rock music, metal, alternative rap, EDM, j- & k-pop / rock, & music that emo teens back in the 2000’s really enjoyed (lol)

Sonic Pokemon headcanons! (with the sssumption that theyre IN the world, not playing just the games)
I know Sonic is terrified of water but do you think he'd primarily use Water and Electric type Pokemon? He'd always be like "I'm telling you it's NOT just because I'm blue!!!" Despite his fear of being IN water, he actually sees Water type Pokemon as very pretty! (and also, Water types can carry him over water or help him in a pinch, if he falls in). If not Water types, then I'd say Flying types, as they're also very cool and very fast usually! He has a few Dragon and Ice types too.
I can see Shadow using Fire and Psychic type Pokemon, and some Dark types here and there (mostly Dark-Fire types though). Psychic types because he's somewhat weak to the very alien-esc nature of them, and also Mewtwo. He just... Mewtwo is his buddy okay? (Also he'd help look after Amy's Grass types and Normal types from time to time). Oddly enough I'd almost say he'd have the most balanced sort of team. Also, he has an Oricorio (Sensu style) who started following him around after he visited one of the grottos of Alola with lavender fields. The Pokemon doesn't battle at all, and he hasn't even caught them, but they do enjoy being around Shadow quite a lot and help comfort him when he has anxiety attacks. Shadow likes to call them "Marmar", which they seem to respond well too also.
Rouge uses all the Pokemon that look like bats really, lol. She also shiny hunts often. She probably has a Sableye, and she also like Rock types that are SPECIFICALLY shiny and like gemstones (she's still convinced the crystal Onix exists)
Tails uses Steel and Electric types, he trades Sonic perfect-IV and EV electric types for variants of Pokemon he doesn't have yet. He's the one collecting every Minior and shit lol, and also is the one to be doing the breeding and competitive-set creating. Also he has multiple Vulpixes and Ninetailses because they make him happy. He has like... One or two Flying types that came from Sonic, also.
Knuckles plays the game like we all did as kids, he gets rid of ever stat-changing move to replace it with the strongest attacks he has access to, then proceeds to fail many times and questions why. He uses Rock and Fighting types mostly, of course.
Amy uses Normal, Fairy, and Grass types, though she doesn't battle much and instead helps Tails to breed Pokemon and keeps a huge garden where many Grass types relax in peace. Shadow helps her take care of it when he visits, and many of the Skittys she has have taken a liking to him (and his Purrloin).
Omega strictly uses Steel and Electric types that are, in some way, robotic.... And by uses I mean has somehow managed to directly connect to and communicate with them. He doesn't even catch them, they just basically Bluetooth sync to him and they all go "Let's kill shit".
At some point Sonic goes into that fuckin cave place where you find Mewtwo, preparing to finally battle them, and ends up finding Mewtwo and Shadow just fucking chatting while sitting on some rocks and is just like
"I'm...sorry???"
Shadow's like "Dude we're in the middle of a conversation either join or leave"
Shadow brings Marmar to meet Amy for the first time and, Amy being one who can probably understand normal Pokemon talking or some shit like that, tells Shadow why they'd even originally taken a liking to him, which was because he shared the same colors as their old partner, a Baile style Oricorio. The two used to dance together in the trees, until one day, the other never returned. When Marmar had gone to the other's own flower field to search for them, they found it to have been destroyed, either by a raging Pokemon, or by people. They'd been left quite lonely, since then, and finding someone quiet like themself, who had the same colors as their lost partner, brought them comfort they hadn't felt in a long time. Shadow probably ended up crying hearing that to be entirely honest, I mean, they'd both lost someone they'd cared deeply for, of course it would hit him hard.
Rouge attempts to "steal" Knuckles' pretty Rock types but it ends up being more like she randomly takes them to get a bunch of treats and then they go back to Knuckles once he finds out lmao. She ends up having a whole family of Carbink living with her too. Despite her seeming selfish to outsiders, she's actually incredibly caring to her Pokemon, and even others' Pokemon when needed.
Sonic get electrocuted regularly by his Electric types to a point where Tails has become genuinely concerned for his health, like actually properly worried about him, because he CONTINUES to walk it off like it's nothing. Which is normal, but still.
One of Sonic's favorite Pokemon of his is his trusted Manectric, which Shadow likes to joke about how similar the fur of the Manectric is to his own quills and teases Sonic about "playing favorites" as a result, which tends to get him strangely flustered and defensive.

Total Eclipse ‘Review’
Just like with Shadow Fall, I will be going through Reboot Archie’s ‘Total Eclipse’ arc to see if Ian is in the right regarding Shadow or if maybe he just isn’t great with him. While I’m primarily looking at Shadow, I’ll also be looking at other things that stood out that I found incompatible with game lore or with game characterizations. Not posting a page means I didn’t really find something worth bringing up or praising. I did read through The Great Chaos Caper since that arc comes between Shadow Fall and this one, and I can safely say it was pretty good aside from the quirks of handling Tikal and Chaos, and having to sit through Ian’s Deadpool Bean. But I’m not really interested in talking about that one critically.
Tumblr media
I addressed Team Brand and GUN last time, but in short, my stance is that there’s no problem with them working for GUN as a team here, but it’s also not bad or wrong for Sega to reject it today. Shadow is off to a good start. Omega isn’t. I can see and understand the easy comedy, but like, scroll for a minute through something like Colors DS’ script. Omega does nothing there but speak factually in his robotic way, yet the situations and scenarios are still funny, like Orbot and Cubot panicking. The comedy is placed on them in that instance. Him muttering the way he does in this page could be argued as humanizing, but it’s anti-Omega in my book. What’s interesting is that a comedic panel later with Fixit describing his function achieved this pretty well. As I’ve gone through Shadow Fall and now this story, I realize I probably should’ve gone back and added from the start that this was going to be a criticism of Ian’s Omega as well. Sorry if this gets redundant. As for Snively… I don’t particularly care for Reboot Snively, because Preboot Snively was more interesting, and I know that Reboot Snively had to be different from previous incarnations, so it would be kinda silly to judge him for “not matching up to SatAM Snively” or something. So I guess we can mostly ignore him unless it’s in regards to another character that matters.
Tumblr media
Which comes up in the page after as he tries to order Shadow around. I appreciate Shadow’s response both to Snively and to the implication of needing Knuckles’ cooperation. Rouge is done pretty good. I can appreciate the meta humor of Omega destroying the Barrel of Doom, or the cool factor of seeing Shadow’s legs spin like Sonic’s running or Shadow zooming across water. The next few pages are all pretty good so far, actually. Knuckles is done well. Relic is one of my favorite Archie OCs, she’s a cute and lowkey addition and gives Knux someone to bounce off of.
Tumblr media
The Omega and Fixit panels I was referring to earlier. This is good comedic Omega.
Tumblr media
This page could go either way. Shadow would usually not have anyone sway him in his goal (as seen earlier in this very issue), but Rouge IS one of the few people who can wrangle him, I suppose. Even IDW works off of this logic during Chao Races and Badnik Bases. So it’s not bad per say, but walking a fine line on interpretation. Eclipse is also great in the next few pages. I enjoy how much he cares about the Dark Arms, and I chuckle at him calling Rouge and Omega “Shadow’s minions.” Great little imp. He once again is able to play some mind games on Shadow, but it’s excusable as part of his anti-Shadow repertoire, I suppose.
Tumblr media
Onto Issue 2, and there it is. The page starts off strong with a heartfelt plea from Eclipse, and then just goes down the drain as Shadow recites yet again that his reason for fighting is Gerald and Maria. That extra reference box down there really throws salt in the wound by adding “Shadow the Hedgehog”. Adding it in there is almost thoughtless, like either the writer/editor did not understand Shad05’s ending if they knew of it, or simply didn’t care because their perception of Shadow is strictly “Maria”.
Tumblr media
Rouge and Knuckles begin to have a conversation about Knuckles’ being shackled to Angel Island and the Master Emerald, a hot topic amongst the fandom for years that persists even today. In our present 2023, Sonic Frontiers has come out, and the English script pushes the notion that Knuckles will be more open to taking breaks from his duty (the Japanese script doesn’t align with it, but that’s irrelevant to my larger point). This itself is in-line with the idea that Knuckles is envious of Sonic’s free adventurous lifestyle despite his commitment to his duty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve always considered Ian someone that understands Knuckles and does him well. And I’m not expecting this 2014 comic to be in line with the ideas from a game that came out 8 years later. But the arc right before this one referenced that Knuckles is a treasure hunter, although rather jokingly. Knuckles does want more for himself, but he answers to a higher calling. And this page isn’t treated as him coping, either. He’s portrayed as content. And don’t get me wrong, Knuckles doesn’t dislike his job or staying on his island. But to say he doesn’t want more is wrong.
Tumblr media
I like Monster Form and all, but it’s just dumb to have Shadow try to use Chaos Control when he knows he can’t in Eclipse’s presence. And then they go out of their way to have Eclipse explain that “it wasn’t the new Black Comet”, but that was literally not in question.
Tumblr media
This page from the second issue of Shadow Fall shows us everything we need to know. Shadow is made aware that it’s Eclipse’s doing and asks how, and Eclipse gives him an explanation. If this was about portraying this power to a potentially unfamiliar audience, which I doubt it was but whatever, then you could’ve simply had either one of them say a line about Shadow not being able to rely on his Chaos abilities when fighting Eclipse as he usually would, as opposed to him trying, failing, and getting punished for it. To be clear, I’m not mad about the optics of Shadow jobbing to Eclipse. I’m mad that this is the manner they chose to execute it, where Shadow is stupid instead of just overpowered, which I would’ve had no problem with because I liked their clash in Shadow Fall.
Tumblr media
This page is mixed. On the one hand, the Master Emerald isn’t for just anyone to use. It’s not just a giant Chaos Emerald, contrary to popular belief. That’s why Sonic can’t actually go Super off of it. Sonic can’t use the Master Emerald, and Knuckles can’t use the Chaos Emeralds. That being said, this *kinda* feels like it’s in the realm of possibility, since it’s using Chaos Control. And there’s no denying the pure cool factor. So I wouldn’t be opposed to giving this idea another shot with modern, hands-on Sega. Though, Shadow’s Chaos Blast doesn’t line up with what it’s actually supposed to be like, but I guess we can say they were working off Chronicles or something and didn’t know better. This also establishes that Eclipse’s block can be overpowered if Shadow has a big source like that, which is neat confirmation to have.
Tumblr media
Onto Issue 3. I don’t love the cocktease of this cover, because Eclipse doesn’t end up using the Master Emerald. I know it’s comic’s industry, but still, that would’ve been cool to see.
Tumblr media
Shadow decides the Master Emerald needs to be moved. I enjoy that callous pragmatism from him and it’ll of course lead us to Shadow vs. Knuckles. I also enjoy that Shadow initially tries not to waste time fighting before he’s forced back into it. Beyond the earlier speed bumps, Shadow and Knuckles have mostly been pretty good. And Rouge as well, seen now.
Tumblr media
Rouge has been great the whole time. And she’s not bad in IDW either, so it’s funny how that works out. Omega on the other hand… yeah. And while Knuckles and Shadow’s fight is nothing short of awesome, with Knuckles’ determination, sensing Shadow’s Chaos Snaps, and setting him off with a Sonic comment, Omega continues to be… yeah.
Tumblr media
First Monster Form, now Dark Arms, and that’s on top of Chaos Control and anti-Shadow power. Eclipse is stacked and I’m here for it.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Omega here is powered by a Chaos Drive. In the games, his power source isn’t revealed, which is pretty common for character robots like Metal Sonic or Gemerl. I would’ve preferred they kept it vague and just had Eclipse tear him up, because either way, Fixit was going to fix him. Omega debuted in Heroes, so having a Power Core might not have been out of place, but I assume he was given a Chaos Drive to match GUN’s other robots, which are all powered by Chaos Drives.
Tumblr media
Onto Issue 4. This page is an ambitious one. Knuckles delves into his purpose, and Shadow says he can find a new one. And it’s ironic because Shadow isn’t consciously written like that in this take on Sonic. He’s written like his purpose is still Muhria’s wish and keeping her promise, as seen in this very arc, which means that this otherwise decent effort comes out hollow.
Tumblr media
I think it’s safe to say this is just inaccurate fanfic, though I’m sure this was part of some bigger plan or something.
Tumblr media
There was no need to use Tikal’s Prayer here. I get it was just trying to be cool or focus his energy or whatever but when Knuckles punched the Master Emerald in SA2, it didn’t need all that. I see the appeal of Shadow questioning if it was Chaos Control, but it’s ultimately kinda forced. That being said, the statement and apology he tells the Emerald itself is sweet.
Tumblr media
A minor nitpick, but it’s annoying to see them reference ‘Sonic 3&K - the game’ as if Snively was a part of it. I get he was part of that adventure in this verse, but it’s just kinda disingenuous and tacked on. Otherwise, I’m glad Rouge comforted Knuckles here.
Tumblr media
Last thing I wanted to say, but I think the decision to shatter the Master Emerald was incredibly smart on Ian’s part. Nowadays he complains on the podcast about “getting him off the island” (because Knuckles palling around with Sonic is just top priority for his character and the story), but this was an excellent compromise that allowed him to travel and adventure around while maintaining his duty and purpose. A lot of times, when people say that Knuckles should ditch the Master Emerald and Angel Island, or he should just get someone to watch it for him, it makes me feel that these supposed fans don’t truly value Knuckles and just want him as a toy in the box. If that’s the case, so be it, but don’t pretend it’s a matter of critical discussion at that rate.
In regards to Shadow, this arc was slightly a step up, but as a whole, I think I enjoyed it a lot more and it overall had less “problems”, or at least, what I considered to be problems as listed here. I guess that’s obvious from the difference in lengths between this review and Shadow Fall’s.

Updated the F/O list section with small descriptions of my AUs for my men! I'll post them here too:
Vegito never defuses in the Future Trunks saga. Afterwards, he takes up Goku's old job of being a vegetable farmer to support Chi Chi and Goten. The ToP still occurs but goes differently (one big difference being that Frieza doesn't get revived). DBS: Broly never happens.
Gogeta never defuses in DBS: Broly due to a spacetime anomaly. Broly still gets wished away, but Gogeta kills Frieza. Afterwards, he takes up a meat-butchering job for some income. (Goten primarily helps Chi Chi with the farm.)
Four never defuses in the Shadow Dragon saga due to the ki power from Vegeta's SS4 transformation being corrupted by the artificial Blutz Waves emitted from Bulma's machine (his fused state is essentially "locked")*. Omega Shenron is killed by him. Afterwards, he withdraws to have a solitary, retirement-esque life in the wilderness surrounding Korin's Tower. A good friend to the Karinga Tribe.
* Credit to @/emmacornell for this idea!

I put together a little collection of Sterek and Steter fics for funsies. “Just a few fics”, I thought, “nothing too crazy.” Thirty fics later I had to cut myself off and finalize the list. You can thank @the-cookie-of-doom for the inspiration.
These primarily fall under the Hurt Stiles Stilinski category because I apparently like to see my comfort characters suffer. Most of these have hopeful/happy endings but mind the tags. For reals.
Placed under a cut since I have no self control and this turned into a long post.

Derek briefly looked at Stiles, hesitating before he saw the gleam of excitement in Stiles’ eyes and the hint of lust in his scent. “Ever look at him, or any other Omega, like that again, and I’ll slice your eyes out with my claws.” He shoved the man back, not caring of the commotion that was made as he snatched up the key from the counter.

Stiles has encountered a fair share of monsters before, way out of his league - the kinds that children are afraid are hiding in their closets and under the bed.
He’d even become one himself when he was void. The nogitsune was in his house, his body, and his mind.
But the worst monster he’s ever faced took even more from him and got away with it.
It’s why Stiles has never really been as terrified of werewolves and kanimas and darachs as he should have been. They’re really not that scary, relatively speaking, and he has a whole team on his side. They always found a way to win - until they lost someone they really loved.

Derek jumped, having momentarily forgotten Scott was on the phone with him because Stiles had started moving. It was probably where he was sleeping.
Lovely. No wonder he smelled like death.

[About a year before the fated Hale fire, Peter starts having nightmares that involve a woman with red hair. The nightmares lead to a spell that brings a man back through time, and, eventually, though the time-traveler is traumatized in the most horrific ways, and Peter's never been good with or for people, in general, they develop a bond that neither of them expects.]

Stiles has scars. He owns that, he accepts it, he's cataloged and memorized every single one, he's hyper fucking aware of them all.
//
"What do you want, Peter?" Having the more untrustworthy of the Pack getting protective weirds him the fuck out, leaves an odd fluttering in his chest, like moths, waiting perilously and suicidally to be burned.
He doesn't like it.
"You're injured," the man says, "and whatever it is, it's put you in enough pain that I nearly fainted when I-"
"- Used your werewolf mojo on me without my permission?" Stiles smirks, and Peter gives him a black look, crossing a leg over his knee and smoothing out some invisible wrinkle on his pants.
"Tell me the truth Stiles, how bad is it?"
[Or: The one where Stiles has scars, is more than a little fucked up, and Peter notices. He helps.]

~ LIMBO ~
c.w. // minor blood; swearing; minor torture
Word Count: 3343 words
Summary:  The Brothers Emeritus never trusted their Father, once prime ruler of the Church, now a senior member of the High Clergy.  If their now blinded father goes against his sons, his word is held higher than their’s.  The youngest of his sons and the third the bloodline was always the defiant one.  There are whispers surrounding the monastery regarding a mysterious golden trinket in Nihil’s possession, one that is the key to the power of the ghouls.

- - - - - - -
Emeritus III kept his walking speed fairly quick, knowing that something would soon come to him.  The golden bobble in his hand was imbued with such dark energy, the Third could hear his ghouls begin to cry out in his head.  It burned them… this was the weapon that his Father used to control all of the Ghouls at the snap of his fingers.  It was one thing to domesticate and tame the Ghouls, but being able to control another of his bloodline’s beasts… that was unforgivable.  The youngest of the bloodline always saw his Ghouls as family, especially when he was allowed out of the monastery.  They were truly all he understood when in the outside world.
The Third was winding himself through the hallways of the monastery, just hoping that he would come across one of the Sisters of Sin.  They were everywhere when he didn’t need one of them to be his cover…  He silently tucked the bobble into his jacket, continuing his walk with his hands now tucked behind his back.  He just had to get out of the monastery and destroy this thing, maybe even approach Hell’s Gates to do it.  There was something dark locked inside of this shell, but he had no idea what it could be.
He continued through the twists and turns before he stopped at one of the last doors before the courtyard.  He knew eyes sat firmly upon him, forcing his eyes closed as he began to focus.  The silent leather wings of his brother spread wide as he stood upon the crossbeam up high in the rafters.  His arms were crossed over each other, his snowy left eye locked directly on his younger sibling.  The Third couldn’t help but feel as if he was being hunted at this moment, his eyes leaving his older brother to head back for the door, showing no fear.
The Third heard nothing except the near silent landing of his older brother, the voice of the Second breaking through the silence, “Terzo, I need you to think about what you’re doing…”
The Third’s eyes shifted gently over to his older brother, no fury shown within.  They were soft… unafraid.  The Third truly doubted the Second starting something… or, at least, doubted that his brother would attempt to do him harm.  The youngest’s smooth voice came from his throat in a quick response, but there were no remnants of hostility locked behind his words, “I don’t know what he told you… but I know what’s right.”  His right hand projected a bright purple rune from it, him hiding it behind his body so his brother wouldn’t see it directly.
The Second felt his hands clench in his frustration, something that was almost so automatic that he hardly noticed his hands move.  His younger brother went to quickly turn, forcing his hand.
As the bright ball of fire projected from the Third’s hand in the direction of his brother, the Second merely stepped to the side, his staff appearing in his hand with a small flick of the wrist.  The Third snapped his finger, lifting up the same hand with a bright orb of light inside of it, near blinding.  The orb of fire was nothing more than a distraction.  The Second, blocking the bright light with his opposing hand, had lifted his staff and still managed to throw it with perfect aim, forcing the end of the inverted grucifix into the stone wall beside his brother’s head.  The bright orb dissipated from the Third’s hand as he found himself caught in a strange position, his head forced slightly upward as he found the perpendicular section of the grucifix directly against his throat.
The Second did not drop his guard, watching as the Third tried to push himself further against the wall, a small trail of blood coming from a small cut on his throat.  He stepped forward, taking the very end of the staff in his hand, a good 6 feet away from his brother.  Anger had finally sparked in the Third’s eyes as he bared his sharp teeth, his fury clearly directed towards his brother.  His anger flowed over, the Third choking out his words, “Why do you believe him, Secondo?  You’ve… never trusted him before… why now?”
The Second sighed, his voice becoming a dark whisper once he spoke, “Terzo… I… we cannot lose our Ghouls.  They’re a part of us… and if I have to stop you from destroying their connection to us, I won’t hesitate in doing you harm… as much as that pains me.”
“You’re an idiot… I can’t believe you…”  The Third shifted his head as his words trailed away, his eyes darting away from the Second down the hallway.  The neon blue flames that were touched with an orange hue flew down towards them, forcing the Second to change his attention to the coming heat.  With a quick movement, a rune appeared within the middle brother’s hand, quickly catching fire.  The Second pushed that hand forward, an equally as powerful blast of bright green fire shooting from his hand.  The different flames crashed together, licking at each other as the heat of both made them both quickly vanish.  While his older brother was distracted, the Third lifted his right hand and placed his hand onto the blade.  In a matter of moments, the blade had weakened, crumbling into small fragments.  As soon as freedom was in his grasp, he ran to the right of the hallway, but did not continue running.  His way was blocked by a wall of bright blue flame, shooting from the floor to the rafters.  He knew this flame too well.  The Third quickly spun around, his eyes now touching the newcomer.
Standing on the other side of the hallway, his hand outstretched with the orange rune still shimmering within his palm, the eldest brother stood, eyes unmoving from the Second.  There was an intense focus coming from him, but he seemed almost emotionless in that moment.  He let his hand fall, his head dipping slightly before he dashed forward.  The Second was stuck in the middle once again, greatly disadvantaging him.
The middle brother stood his ground, preparing to clash with his older brother.  The First created a ball of blue-orange flame within his right palm, the Second quickly following suit with his own green flame.  With a strange crackle filling the air, both of their hands collided, the First holding tightly onto the Second’s clenched fist.  That was when he could see the anger that flowed deep inside of the First.
With a very soft growl, the First showed his sharp teeth, his claw-like hands wrapping around his brothers.  He hissed through his teeth, his deeper voice almost unrecognizable through this rare bout of anger, “I will not allow either of you to do this!  Your actions are rash and will only further the danger we all are in!”
“I didn’t want it to have to come to this… but I must do this.”  The Third faced them, his ivory eye catching a strange purple hue as he focused onto his brothers, his words almost echoing through the hall.  Both of his gloved hands formed their own purple runes within them, shining brightly.  “Come to me…”  With a soft whisper, the black mists of his ghouls came running to him, appearing from the shadows with their heads tilted in confusion.  Their eyes fell onto the struggling elder brothers, but Alpha and Omega quickly turned and faced their leader.
The youngest of the Emeritus line looked to his ghouls, concern primarily circling him as he then spoke to them, “I need you all to flee... far away from here.  Get away from the monastery.  I don’t want any protest.”  Alpha and Omega nodded slowly, looking to Earth, Water, and Air.  The other ghouls looked apprehensive, their colorful eyes watching their young master.  When Emeritus III looked to all of his ghouls, there was no fear within him, and they could feel that.  A quiet, serious tone escaped his lips, “Do you understand me?”
Each Ghoul nodded, stepping back and away from their young master.  The Third Era Ghouls vanished into the shadow, their eyes filled with a strange, dark concern for Emeritus III.  The Second took his left hand and punched his older brother square in the jaw, forcing the eldest backwards, breaking his concentration for just that moment.  In the moment that the First stumbled backwards, his slightly younger sibling turned and ran towards the youngest, who stood at the ready for what was to come.  The Third knew that his brother in green had enough willpower to sustain many injuries, but he and the eldest were not lucky on that front.
The Second reached his brother, the purple flame bursting upwards and blinding the Second for a second time.  He stumbled back as the youngest of the brothers lifted his hand and shot a thin, focused ball of flame towards his oldest brother.  The thin, arrow-like pyre was extinguished by the bright blue flame of the eldest, who had a thin line of blood trickling from his mouth.  In his rare bout of anger, the First did the same as his younger brother, creating multiple bright blue, thin flames.  Like arrows, he sent them flying directly for his younger brothers.
The Third’s eyes widened as his second brother lifted his left hand and blocked most of the flame arrows from behind, but he took one directly between the shoulder blades.  The Second stumbled, feeling the strange, numbing shock of his older brother's fire course through him.  This made him fall to his knees, straining his own arcana.  The green runes on his hands flickered and dimmed, but did not vanish.  As he tried to stand, his youngest brother pushed the Second aside, running towards his eldest brother with this sense of vengefulness.
“Primo!!”  The Third ran towards him, both of his white-gloved hands igniting into a bright purple.  The First stood up a bit more, a large orange rune appearing within his palm.  He lifted his hand as his brother approached, catching the youngest brother by his face.  The anger that had been strong on the youngest’s face did not leave as he lifted both of his hands and grabbed onto his eldest brother’s forearm.
The bright purple flame burned into the First, who hardly reacted to the pain facially, but he could feel the immense pain through his entire body, making him almost sick.  He could feel the life sap from him in that moment, making his eyes go wide in fear.
“Dammit, Terzo!!”  The First pushed himself forward, forcing the Third backwards a bit, making the youngest lose his focus as he had to catch his footing.  The orange rune that had expanded in the eldest’s hand finally activated, touching his younger brother’s face immediately.  In that moment, the bright purple flame was gone, and the youngest fell backwards.  The First fell to his knees beside his younger brother, catching the youngest in his left arm as he fell to the ground.  The Third had fainted, thanks mostly to the strange arcana seal that the First had put onto his youngest brother in that moment.  The intense arcana that the youngest was displaying was using too much of his arcana reserve, thus making him vulnerable.  The eldest knew his right arm would be absolutely destroyed once his adrenaline settled itself, but it could have been worse if he hadn’t stopped it then.
From behind the First, thin strands of shimmering, yellow flame flew into the room, lighting every candle on the wall and each chandelure.  One of the strands quickly wrapped around the Second’s wrists, binding his arcana.  A growl resonated deep from within the motionless Second, his eyes snapping upwards.  Another flame bound itself gently around the First, who caught his breath upon seeing the flame.  The Golden Flame was so rare to be seen, something must have truly been wrong.  A golden-like mist came to the youngest of the brothers, laying over him for a moment as it lifted a strange bobble from his coat.  The First looked at it, seeing the Era Zero ghoul engraved deep within its golden metal.  With the realization, he felt almost as if he couldn’t breathe, seeing the truth now.
The golden mist carried the bobble into the hand of the patriarch who stood silently at the far side of the hall.  With a gentle nod to the mist, the patriarch placed the bobble directly onto the top of his cane, gently placing his gloved hand over it once again.  The golden mist spiraled next to him, forming into his Air Ghoul.  The Air Ghoul huffed, its cloudy white eyes staring directly at the brothers.
The eldest brother spoke first, “Mio padre… you can’t--”
“Which Circle have you sealed within that trinket, you bastard!”  The Second snapped, his snowy left eye gaining a green hue to it.  Almost immediately, the hue vanished, the Second clenching his eyes shut in pain.  The First knew his younger brother received heavy migraines from using the Eye of Lucifer, but this seemed like a difference.
The Second only heard screams ring within his skull, a strange sensation taking him.  From the depths of his soul, a dark mist was driven out, forcing forward his ghoul of quintessence.  The larger Ghoul looked almost dazed, it’s purple eyes fogged.  The Second opened one of his eyes, the pain still prickling through him as he looked to his Ghoul.  Within his pain, the smallest cry for help found his eyes, something so rare to him.  He mouthed the word “Star,” the name of the Ghoul before him.  All he wanted was to push this Ghoul back deep within the Shadow, but he couldn’t.
The First felt like something had crawled into his throat, a hand trying to pull out something from within him.  A dark mist swirled around the First as well, his Earth Ghoul being forced into this reality.  He coughed as he felt released from this hold, but he quickly addressed his ghoul, “Malachite!”  The smaller Ghoul’s dark green eyes shimmered for a moment in panic, realizing its danger as a cloud fell over its eyes.  The First tried to tug against his magical restraints, but knew not even his arcana could break the Golden Flame.  Their old man was going to torture their Ghouls…
The Third’s eyes flickered open, pain rushing into him as he awoke.  He immediately let out a crying scream, the shadowy mist that came from him shaping into his Fire Ghoul, Alpha.  The large Fire Ghoul was one of the stronger ghouls within the monastery, but even its bright orange eyes almost silenced themselves immediately.  This ghoul, however, was making the largest attempt to fight back.  “You were… supposed… supposed to run!  Alpha!!”  The youngest of the brothers stared directly at his Fire Ghoul with immense fear, paralyzed where he laid, not only by the flame, but also by seeing his Ghoul so different.
Each of them sat there, staring directly at their respective ghouls, watching the beasts stare forward without any recognition for their surroundings, as if they were forever lost.  “The First Circle… Limbo…”  Nihil’s mocking voice rushed over his three sons, all of them recoiling at his words.
The First’s eyes widened, his voice elevating in a strong sense of anger and fear, “Stop this!  Not even you can control the Nine Circles!”
“You bastard!  What type of person are you!”  The Third hissed out his words, but fear still seeped deep within him.  The old patriarch could only smile a kindly smile, his blind eyes arching as he did so, but he did not answer.
With only a whisper, the Second uttered, “A megalomaniac… if… he takes away our ghouls… then… we have no one left… and become his.”
Both the Third and the First flashed their eyes to their brother, fear taking them.  With just a look between all of them, it was easy to see their desperation.  Lose their freedom, or lose an ally… that was the choice before them.
Nihil cracked a sinister smile, the dark circles around his eyes seeming deeper than ever before, “I’m willing to make a deal, i miei figli… but it will cost one of you.”  The Second immediately raised his eyes to his father’s, opening his mouth to speak, but he was interrupted by another.
“Then lock me in that damn Circle, you old fool!  I know that’s what you want!”  The First spoke before his younger brothers could get a chance.  His head was held high, no outward fear being expressed in that moment.
“Fratello!”  The Third spoke first, but was quickly silenced by a hiss from his eldest brother.  The Second could see the determination deep within his older brother’s eyes, respecting this decision he had made.  He would do anything for them… even if that meant subjecting himself to the punishments of his father.
Nihil nodded, as if accepting the words of his oldest son.  He continued to nod slowly as he thought to himself, his large, gold-masked Ghouls clearly aggravated in some sense.  “Very well, figlio mio saggio.”  Nihil lifted his hand from the golden orb that sat upon his cane, a strange light coming back to each Ghoul.
Star fell to his side, vanishing back into the shadow as his master’s breathing grew heavy.  The Second felt faint from trying to keep his Ghoul so close to him, a desperate move to keep such an important gift.  Alpha’s long tail flicked slowly as he was released, his eyes casting over to the Third as if to say he was sorry before he vanished back into the shadow.  The youngest of the bloodline felt a sting across his chest, but he didn’t know what it was from.  Malachite closed his eyes, the fog not being released from the Ghoul immediately upon the Ghoul’s realization.  The fog trailed into the eldest son, Emeritus I quickly feeling as if he was falling continuously into a void.  He had lost touch to the real world, and all went black.
The Golden Flame was released from the sons, as both the Second and the Third knew not to try anything stupid.  It could result in more danger for them, their ghouls, and even their oldest brother.  They slowly lifted themselves to their feet, both looking down to their semi-conscious brother who only stared into the horizon.  Both of the awakened sons turned their attention to their father, who said nothing, turned, and vanished from sight.  His Ghouls remained for a moment, watching carefully, before both of them vanished into golden mist with a growl and followed after their master.  Left to care for an injured eldest brother and his stressed Earth Ghoul, the brothers began to learn that their trust was truly displaced.
While their master stayed in a comatose state, the First’s four healthy Ghouls cared for him and their injured brother, Malachite.  Emeritus I did not awaken from the First Circle for two weeks after he had been placed into his trance.  When he awoke, he did not wish to talk to or to see anyone.  It took him a week to recover from the terror he experienced, and sleep did not come to him.  His Ghoul of Quintessence had to force him into a dream state in an eventuality, but almost lost control due to a horrible night terror that rose deep with Emeritus I.
A month had passed, and Emeritus I became the rising Papa, soon to be in charge of the church.  Upon learning of his younger brothers’ plans to possibly take over the church, overthrowing their father, the eldest of them only had one thing to say:
“The First Circle was not kind to me, and it will not be kind to you, i miei fratelli.  Just imagine the Ninth Circle… I can’t have you two lose your heads like I almost did with my own…”

Hey Ghastly Spectral Readers!
Dom here!  The ghouls that were pulled out of the Papas have a special significance to my headcanons, specifically that those are the ghouls that manifested first for each one.  Technically, Terzo manifested Alpha then Omega shortly after, to the point that his fire and quintessence ghoul are almost one in the same.  Ghouls that I haven’t seen fandom names for I’ve given names to :D.
I hope you like this read as much as I enjoyed writing it! Thanks for reading!

Pokémon Black: The Novel (Prologue)
This is a novelization of Pokemon Black, meaning a complete rewrite of the story from start to finish. Follow Hil (Hilbert) as he escapes from his suffocating home life and finds himself clashing with idealistic N over deadly truths. Not everything is as it seems in Unova.
(Cross-posted from FFN & AO3)
This is part of a series I am actively working on known as Pokemon Retold. It is a project in which I intend to novelize each region’s games with a protagonist that I give a unique personality to, as listed below:
HeartGold - Lyra
Omega Ruby - Brendan
Platinum - Dawn
Black - Hilbert (goes by Hil)
Black 2- Nate
Y - Calem
Sun/Ultra Sun - Selene
Sword - Gloria
But that’s not all. These stories won’t just stay written fanfictions. I intend to fully animate this series in the future. I just have to write it all out first since the written stories will determine how the animations play out. :)
That being said, expect LOTS of fanart as I learn how to animate and so forth and I hope you enjoy!

Pokemon Black
Prologue - Long Live Team Plasma
The atmosphere was cold and damp. Pristine, stark walls curved high over everyone’s heads in an arch, no true flat ceiling existing in that cavernous throne room. Broad, looming pillars kept that ornate ceiling steady and gave the room an even more elegant feel due to their extravagantly sculpted designs. Gilded blue walkways snaked across flowing water beneath the room. Thick glass connected them and allowed throngs of robed people to walk across the rivulets below. They stared at a raised, wide walkway in the center of the room carefully, each of their eyes hidden in the shadows caused by the silver hoods that swallowed their faces.
Silence gripped the room save for the distant dribbling of water as a group of seven elderly men entered the chambers. One led the pack, looking quite different from the rest, who bore thick, conic robes and tall, cylindrical hats that hid their figures. The leader still had that conic design about his clothing, but the robes did not drag the ground like his colleagues, and they were primarily a deep violet with golden streaks and designs zigzagged throughout. The most prominent of the designs on his cloak appeared to be an eye shape of sorts. He had no hat to speak of. The leader also wore a red eyepiece lined with silver, an angular monocle of sorts, blotting his right eye from view. Cupped gently in his palms as if it were made of precious glass was a gleaming golden crown with white gemstones embedded in its lustrous frame.
The six men trailing him stopped along the walkway. Three sat precariously near the edge on one side and the other three did the same for the opposite length of the path. The leader continued his path until he reached a glittering chair made in the same shade of gold as the crown. He stood to the chair’s right and swept a red, one-eyed gaze across the gathered crowd. He cleared his throat and addressed them, “Today, Team Plasma enters its next phase of liberation.” The right side of his lips pulled down stubbornly against his words, refusing to budge, as if half of him were fighting his own words. But Marlon knew the much more sinister reason. All of Plasma knew, in fact.
“Long live Team Plasma,” whispered the six men gathered about the walkway in unison. They were the other six of the Seven Sages. World-renowned philosophers, skilled in various other subjects as well, gathered to educate Team Plasma’s members and even more importantly, their future King. It was important that they had some sort of powerful outside influence to inform their future King of the ways of the world, after all; Team Plasma’s future King was sadly forced to live his life within the labyrinthian underground castle. His purpose was one too pure and important to risk by allowing him amongst dangerous average humans and their bladed tongues, capable of twisting the hearts of men into believing untrue, outrageous ideas.
“Our prince has finally come of age,” the leader—Ghetsis, use his name, Marlon thought with a pang of discomfort—came again. His voice was gravelly but not faded or meek by any means. He had a loud, booming air of domination about him, a forceful persistence Marlon had known from no other. His seriousness was not unwarranted, however. Ghetsis went on to say, “Lord N is ready to be crowned as the King of Team Plasma and to lead us in our quest to change Unova for the better!”
Marlon watched curiously as Ghetsis’ robes fluttered at movement beneath them. He, along with most of the other members of Team Plasma present, softly gasped as he revealed his right arm fully, grasping the crown tenderly in the shuddering fingertips, and strained to raise it high above his own head. High above the gathered crowd. Marlon knew he should have been awing at the crown as it was the symbol of their future, but Ghetsis using his bad arm was entrancing in a way.
As the story went, Ghetsis had been mauled by a hydreigon he had fought to tear away from a most frightful trainer. He had described his travel through a path in the wilderness close to Victory Road as nothing short of depressing: trainer after trainer ruthlessly pushing their pokémon to fight anything they spotted. Supposedly the hydreigon had been on the verge of collapse, attacking wild pokémon desperately as if to get the training over with so it could be done. Ghetsis, unable to watch, had stepped in, he had said. The trainer had laughed him away at first and so, of course, Ghetsis battled to try to insist, to change his mind. Ghetsis battled until he no longer had pokémon at his side capable of battle. Then, the hydreigon had descended upon him in a blind fury. Even the pokémon’s own trainer had been petrified at the display and had left his pokémon there, Poké Ball and all, to whatever fate awaited it and Ghetsis. Of course, Ghetsis had survived the encounter, if only narrowly, and the scars of that fateful battle were still readily visible across his arm, his leg, and his face. Ghetsis proudly persevered despite them like they were a symbol of what they would overcome. Never did Ghetsis allow his apparent disabilities to hinder his daily life.
So, to see him holding the crown high above them in such a way, arm trembling and struggling to remain aloft, it was a moving sight to say the least. Marlon was flooded with a burning desire. Team Plasma had found him, wasting his life away in the seaside village of Humilau, five years before and had given him purpose. Reminded of this, he felt a cozy sense of belonging. Life in Humilau had been fun, that was for sure; fishing, surfing along the backs of various visiting marine pokémon, diving, swimming… it was an indulgent, carefree lifestyle, and a very pleasant one at that. He had not realized how poorly he had been spending his life until Team Plasma had arrived. Ghetsis, not yet injured at the time of that visit, had paraded across the boardwalk of the town and spoken softly of the shame in ‘owning’ Pokémon and forcing them to battle for human entertainment. Marlon had only battled sparingly up to that point, much more preferring to fish and swim than train and battle, and was haunted by the idea of whether Ghetsis’ claims were true or not. They had engrossed his then-thirteen-year-old mind with worries about what sort of world lay further in Unova’s mainland cities. He spoke to some more of the adults in his village before making his final decision to join Team Plasma’s ranks and they had all but confirmed his suspicions. The village elders lamented the introduction of the Poké Ball to the Unova region and sighed about how it had warped trainers’ minds into ones of control and manipulation rather than progress and companionship. Battles, they felt, were now about domination instead of bonding.
It was with Team Plasma, with their ideals, that Marlon found purpose. No longer was he wasting away on idle standby, ignorantly living his indulgent life, as the world progressed down a dark path.
“Long live Team Plasma,” chanted the crowd of gathered Team Plasma brethren. Marlon joined in. His voice was soft but not timid. They continued even as Ghetsis started to speak again, sounding like a distant hum.
“Fellow Sages and Servants of the King,” Ghetsis mused as he looked down at the men flanking the walkway down the center of the room. “Please bring forth our King.”
In frighteningly perfect unison, each of the six sages slowly moved to their feet and then filed together in a straight line as if they were designed to. They padded out the room and Ghetsis breathed in deeply, using his left hand to steady his slowly-failing right arm. Marlon looked up at him in hesitant admiration. Despite the story of his heroics, saving the hydreigon and saving their prince—no, King, he reminded himself—and adopting two other girls orphaned by selfish humans, Marlon still eyed Ghetsis with a hint of apprehension. Ghetsis pursued Team Plasma’s goal of liberation doggedly and sometimes, his desperation went a little far. He blinked harshly as he recalled the feeling of that broad, tight hand on his shoulder, gripping with enough force he feared his bones might splinter, and an image flashed in his mind of an imposing figure shadowing him with his height. But Marlon banished the thoughts with a minute shake of his head. Ghetsis could be forceful at times, but Marlon couldn’t blame him. He had seen the devastation wrought by humans firsthand more than many of them had and Marlon supposed he had been an annoying kid anyways. He still had a habit of slipping into the Humilau-inspired slang every now and then and he knew how much that grated everyone’s nerves, not to mention how Ghetsis had warned him that giving away identifying information—such as one’s place of origin—could compromise Team Plasma’s mission.
The crowd fell silent, finally ceasing the hushed chant, when the Sages returned to the walkway. Leading them this time was their soon-to-be King. Pale green hair fluttered and flowed down his back, framing his young, perfect face. His eyes were shut, and the Sages guided him along the straight pathway by holding the lengthy ceremonial garb that he boasted and tugging gently when he began to teeter in any one direction too far. It also kept the beautifully patterned fabric from brushing the floor. They guided him to just in front of the chair—throne, Marlon corrected himself again—and only then did they let go of his robes. They each dipped their heads and offered something in a solemn whisper before returning to their initial positions along the broad walkway.
Ghetsis, standing to attention at the King’s left, dipped his head in a similar fashion toward him. “Lord N,” Ghetsis began with an almost loving purr in his voice, “you have learned all we can teach you to guide you in your path forward. Now, we look to you as our King and as our Hero to shape Unova’s future as a place for pokémon and humans to live separate, perfect lives.” He tried to carefully lower the crown onto N’s bowed head, but his right arm gave way and it half-tumbled out of his hands. N steadied the crown himself, making no note of Ghetsis’ fumble, and then looked up at his father. Marlon felt a bolt of sadness at the display. A pokémon had been driven to madness with the desire to attack Ghetsis over the selfish lust for power from its trainer. That was all it was a reminder of. After taking a second to collect himself, Marlon looked back up at N, who had turned to face the rest of the room.
He shakily breathed in and then raised his right hand nervously. He swallowed hard. “Today, I accept my role as King of Team Plasma and as Unova’s future Hero,” N declared in that delicate tone of his. He sounded so light and gentle compared to Ghetsis but he emanated the same air of determination. “Today, long live Team Plasma!” N’s voice raised as he jutted that hand high into the air, his stormy eyes narrowing knowingly. The rest of the room erupted after him. Chants for Team Plasma reverberated throughout the walls in a way that made it feel as if even when they were gone, the room would continue to exude the words, the words of justice.
But N wasn’t done. He stamped a foot and added with stronger vigor, “Together, friends, we will make a world free of confusion and suffering! A world that is ideal! A world that is black and white!”

Wild SSBU guessing
Just taking wild stabs at characters that might or might not make the roster. Most of these will be some of the popular characters that people have wanted in Smash 4 (as we’ve seen with Daisy, Ridley, Chrom, Dark Samus, and King K. Rool).
First, Echo Fighters of currently-confirmed fighters.
- Ninten (Ness): Likely uses Lucas’s PK Freeze for the standard special, since EarthBound Beginnings doesn’t have PK Flash. - Special moves: PK Freeze, PK Fire, PK Thunder, PSI Magnet - Final Smash: PK Beam Gamma - Black Shadow (Captain Falcon): I’m...not sure how to differentiate him enough from Ganondorf. Maybe just make him mostly like Melee Ganondorf? - Special moves: Shadow Punch, Dark Boost, Evil Dive, Wicked Kick - Final Smash: Black Bull - Impa (Sheik): Hopefully Skyward Sword design so she can use that blue energy to generate her tools. - Special moves: similar to Sheik’s specials - Final Smash: same as Sheik - Shadow (Sonic): Looking hopeful with Richter’s big reveal. Maybe use Chaos energy to expand the reach of his attacks - they could also be slower but stronger. Up special could be a teleport, like from Mewtwo or Palutena. - Special moves: Homing Attack, Spin Dash, Chaos Warp, Spin Charge - Final Smash: Chaos Blast - Celica (Robin): Main differences I can see are: use only Beloved Zofia (better than Bronze Sword, but weaker than Levin Sword), magic in special moves and weak attacks do some damage to herself, and use a variant of Marth’s Counter with Plenitude for refilling health. - Special moves: Ragnarok (like Arcthunder without charge), Seraphim (like Arcfire), Excalibur (pretty much just Elwind), Plenitude - Final Smash: Ragnarok Omega - Octoling (Inkling): The only real difference would be weapons. I’ll guess Octo Shot (which is exactly the same as a Splattershot, really), Octobrush, Range Blaster, Bloblobber (to add range to the smash attacks), Carbon Roller (faster than Splat Roller, but can’t bury), and Burst Bomb (explodes on contact with anything). - Special moves: Octo Shot, Carbon Roller, Super Jump, Burst Bomb - Final Smash: Tenta Missiles (works like Snake’s FS)
Now general newcomers (with possible Echo Fighters to go with them).
- Paper Mario: People have wanted him for the longest time. - He could take cues from all his starring games. Maybe Spin Smash, Tornado Jump, and Quake Hammer for smash attacks... - The spin dash from the first Paper Mario as a dash attack... - Specials moves: Hurlhammer, Paper Plane, Spring Jump, ??? - Final Smash: Fan Thing (mash button for more damage, like in Sticker Star and Color Splash) - Geno: Many found it suspect that the Geno costume in Smash 4′s DLC season got a special mention. Perhaps it’s a step closer to making Geno playable? Or Assist Trophy, but we all know what the people want. - Could be a projectile normal user for some attacks, like with Villager. - Special moves: Geno Beam, Geno Whirl, Geno Blast, Geno Boost - Final Smash: Geno Flash - Bandanna Dee: Popularity card. - Could primarily use his Spear, but might use some Parasol moves as well (like in Kirby Battle Royale). - Special moves: Spear Throw, Circus Throw (grab), Spear Copter, Parasol Twirl - Final Smash: Megaton Punch - Gardevoir: Some leak a month ago predicted King K. Rool, Richter, and Dark Samus (under Samus, he said) in some demo build, along with code names for “Mario2“, Gardevoir, and Gothitelle. Could have been coincidence, but I’ll humor it. Gardevoir does have the popularity card, after all, and can fill in that Gen-3 niche in the roster. - Side smash could be a “small black hole“, with a vacuum effect that draws foes in before sending them flying. - Special moves: Future Sight, Dazzling Gleam, Trick Room, Reflect - Final Smash: Moonblast (Mega Evolves) - Echo Fighter: Gothitelle: This would also fill the Gen-5 niche, I think. And this wouldn’t be the first time Gardevoir and Gothitelle were seen together (Black/White anime, with Anthea and Concordia). - Special moves: Future Sight, Dark Pulse, Trick Room, Reflect - Final Smash: Shattered Psyche - Primarina: Not ignoring the Gen-7 niche, either. Honestly, this could be any of the Alolan starters, but I personally REALLY want Primarina the most. - Special moves: Sparkling Aria, Disarming Voice, Aqua Jet, Icy Wind - Sparkling Aria could generate some water balloons, which Primarina can send flying around with attacks, footstool jump off of, or detonate by using Sparkling Aria again. - Disarming Voice would be a projectile. If it makes contact with a water balloon, it can split into three projectiles through it. - Icy Wind would push foes at mid-range, or freeze them at close-range. - Final Smash: Oceanic Operetta - Alm: Not a high priority, but since Ultimate brought in the lead three of Awakening, then I don’t think I could guess Celica without Alm as well. - He always has a shield, so he could use that for some super-armored normal attacks. And he might be heavier than any other Fire Emblem fighter (since he’s in full armor all the time). One special could also use a bow (which he can use as a Hero/Conqueror). - Special moves: Double Lion, Hunter Volley, Windsweep, Pavise - Pavise here isn’t a counter, but a shield bash that can parry direct attacks, leaving foes open, and maybe also nullify projectiles. - Final Smash: Scendscale - Isabelle: Popularity card. Though I’m not sure what she’d do...Maybe set things around the arena, like small buildings? - Rex: Xenoblade 2 development started in mid-2014, so there must have been plenty of time to acquire him, I’m sure. - Pyra/Mythra might not be on-stage all the time - just for certain moves, like smash attacks and throws (kinda like with Peach’s Toad). But since Rex can change their form in battle, he could use this to become a sort of stance-change fighter. - Pyra’s version of the Aegis Sword could focus on damage and range, while Mythra’s version focuses on attack speed and launch power. - Smash attacks can use Pyra and Mythra’s Blade Specials. - Side smash: Flame Nova/Lightning Buster - Up smash: Blazing End/Photon Edge - Down smash: Prominence Revolt/Ray of Punishment - Special moves: Anchor Shot (grab), Rolling Smash, Crushing Typhoon (with Roc), Blade Switch - Final Smash: Chain Attack - Wonder-Red: Popularity card. Also, there’s already two Wonderful 101 tracks in the game, so why not? - His main feature could be Unite Charge to buff up his Unite Hand’s power for certain moves, like smash attacks, throws, and at least one special. Using these moves, or taking too much damage, will weaken the duration of Unite Hand’s current level. - Smash attacks could be based on Wonderful Stinger, Wonderful Rising, and Wonderful Cyclone. A full-charged smash attack with max Unite Charge level could be dangerously powerful. - Special moves: Unite Hand Flame, Team Unite Morph, Wonder-Jump, Unite Charge - Team Unite Morph can cycle between Wonder-Red’s allies to summon for different effects (or hold to cycle through faster). - Wonder-Blue’s Unite Sword can use a broad reflecting slash. - Wonder-Green’s Unite Gun can fire a few projectiles. - Wonder-Pink’s Unite Whip can reel a foe in closer. - Wonder-Yellow’s Unite Hammer can deal a strong meteor smash. - Wonder-White’s Unite Claw can trap foes in a rapid claw combo. - Wonder-Black’s Unite Bomb can inflict slow status on foes. - Final Smash: Wonderful Forever - Spring Man: Eh, might as well throw this one in. He seems to be one of the more expected Switch characters to join, though also one of the most controversial. - Weak attack might operate differently, by throwing one ARM forth at a time and returning as soon as it hits a foe. You can throw the other ARM out while the other one is flying, and you can repeat this for a while. - Strong attacks could have variable range depending on whether you tap or hold the button. Tap deals a fast close-range punch, and hold deals a long-range punch with more power at the apex. - Smash attacks could use the Megaton ARM. Charge determines how far out it goes. - Special moves: Boomerang ARM, Grappling ARMS (grab), Bounce-Back, ARMS Charge - Boomerang ARM can be curved tightly on input. - ARMS Charge will give a temporary boost to Spring Man’s ARM attacks with different effects. The standard Toasty ARMS for his normal attacks gain damage power, the Boomerang ARM gains launch power, and the Megaton ARM becomes larger and stronger. - ARMS Charge itself can emit a shockwave to repel most attacks and let him drop quickly in midair. - Final Smash: Rush Attack - Echo Fighter: Ribbon Girl: I’ve seen so many people want Ribbon Girl either instead of Spring Man, as an alt of Spring Man, or with Spring Man. Well, with Echo Fighters, the latter could happen. - Main difference, I think, would be her Sparky ARMS and Slapamander ARM. Sparky ARMS, with ARMS Charge, wouldn’t gain damage but a light paralyzing effect. Slapamander wouldn’t curve as tightly as Boomerang, but its hitbox would be big, and its ARMS Charge effect would be extra damage. - Also, her ARMS Charge wouldn’t have the shockwave, but she could drop down even faster. - Special moves: Slapamander ARM, Grappling ARMS (grab), Bounce-Back, ARMS Charge - Final Smash: Rush Attack
And finally, a few third-party characters that I expect will be big picks.
- Shantae: With Shovel Knight in the Assist Trophies, I think Shantae is the biggest indie pick now. And WayForward has publicly given support for Shantae for Smash. - Banjo-Kazooie: There’s quite a bit of Rare stuff in Smash now - King K. Rool, Klaptrap, and Krystal in her Adventures appearance. So this duo seems quite likely. The support has also been given Microsoft’s blessings. - Sora: ...I mean, if Disney allows it, then he could happen. He’s been requested ever since Brawl, after all. But I suppose Final Fantasy would take first priority for Square-Enix in Smash - now that Cloud’s in, anything else from them goes, I guess. - Since I know so much about Kingdom Hearts, I can actually think of some Smash moves for Sora. He’s got a lot of combo steps that he can use for normal attacks and stuff. - Special moves: Strike Raid, Tornado Strike, Flowmotion, Ragnarok - Final Smash: Salvation - Echo Fighter: Riku: My wildest Echo Fighter guess, I know. Still, the two games where Riku co-starred with Sora as a playable hero debuted on Nintendo handhelds, so that could be enough significance to make him an Echo? - Special moves: Spark Raid, Gravity Strike, Flowmotion, Dark Firaga - Final Smash: Dark Aura - Amaterasu: Just another Kamiya pick thrown in just because. Okami was pretty popular on Wii and now Switch, after all, and I’ve seen her requested a lot. - She’ll likely just attack with Divine Retribution for most of her moves, but could use the Devout Beads Rosary and the Tsumugari Glaive for a few other attacks, along with Power Slash. - Special moves: Firestorm, Cherry Bomb, Greensprout, Solar Flare - With Firestorm, draw a path to set off a trail of fire. Or, draw an infinity symbol around Amaterasu to use Inferno, a strong attack focused around Amaterasu’s vicinity. - Greensprout has different effects on the ground and in the air. On the ground, it grows a small tree in front to block attacks. In the air, it uses a vine and a Konohana Blossom to pull Amaterasu to safety. - Solar Flare is primarily a reflecting move, but if it intercepts a direct attack right at the start, she’ll counterattack with an explosive flare. - Final Smash: Sunrise (might be somewhat like Rosalina & Luma’s Power Star)
...And, that is my nonsensical ramble on characters I’d like to see in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Obviously, I don’t expect ALL of these in. Just some of them, at least.

Since Sonic IDW comics is pretty much downhill story-wise and character handling...
Here’s my take if we were to stay making the comics: Cancel the current storyline. Just start over.
Start with an issue or two to just feature Sonic, an overal who he is, have him face Eggman and in a later issue he faces Metal Sonic. After that have a time skip to a Sonic Heroes Adaptation. That way we can have a whole focus on a good amount of the game cast instead of comic exclusive characters and can have a good longer arc. NGL IDW!characters are generally better than what Archie did IMO but alas...
The start of the Sonic Heroes arc can begin with scenes just before what we start seeing in the game:
(in order)
. First off, we get to see Sonic running and giving us a brief summary about him speeding across the globe.
. Vector and Espio has a short but entertaining interaction, meanwhile Charmy recieves the package from their next client then excitedly heads back to the Chaotix detective HQ.
. Team Rose arrive at the seaside setting where Amy gets a newspaper that shows Sonic taking Froggy and Chacola. Then we have some cute short one on one between Big and Cream.
. Rouge gives a summary of her situation as she sneaks through Eggman’s base to get his secret treasure. It follows by a scene of Omega flashbacking about  Eggman treating him like garbage then it reveals an in stasis Shadow is in the same room as Omega.
. Knuckles is on Angel Island then spots a familiar airplane; it’s Tails, who shows/gives Knuckles the letter he got from “Eggman.” They result in going off to face him. As they leave Angel Island the two muse to each other that they’ll see Sonic again soon.
End of the first issue for the story arc.
Throughout the story it’s not identical to the game. Additions I’d add would be Team Sonic encountering/battle with Team Chaotix, the same goes for Team Dark vs Team Rose. Nix the Amy marrying Sonic thing because that will give nearly full focus for being the beating heart of Team Rose and the good qualities she has, instead of a noticeable gushing for Sonic we originally saw(that’s just the one I remember off the bat, ofc there’s other tweaks I’d do). Since everything is a comic the story can get fleshed out more.
The comics itself are meant to promote the games because Sonic is primarily a video game franchise, not a comic or anime one. It wouldn’t hurt having a few more game adaptations but the comics can mainly be about adventures that happen between the events from the games after Sonic Heroes and have follow ups to said events. Still having comic exclusive story arcs definetly stays. One I’d add is about Tails and Knuckles joining Team Chaotix (for whatever reason) while Sonic and Amy do the same with Team Dark (barely about SonAmy gushing; more about other interactions).
I’m one who’d like to see Tails and Knuckles dynamic explored better since they’re on the same team; maybe the two team up while Sonic goes on his own and/or meets up with Amy. There! A golden quartet for the adventure(in a good way)! In fact, more stories about said quartet(notecibally more people are getting tired of seeing just classic trio). Anything that had to do with Sonic 06 sans Silver(and maybe Soleanna) should be left alone given how much that game negativity impacted the franchise. Comic exclusive characters can ofc stay (reintroduce Tangle, Whisper, etc.)but truly try to avoid the creator’s pet conflict. Respect Eggman’s character; he can plan! Keep the rest of the cast in character too. Silver is no cinnamon roll, Shadow is not Vegeta 2.0, and Sonic is not your typical shonen protagonist who also lets Metal Sonic off the hook. IDW has been making some characters “better” at the expense of others, that should go. It’s obvious you can pull off making characters better without doing that. There’d still be Blaze and occasionally Silver, him though not as much and besides why not make a spin off series in his own time period? Anyhow, for Blaze I’d flesh out her dimension a bit more and maybe even a spin off for her as well.
Other games adaptations I’d add would be Battle(portray Amy more kinder), maybe the first Rush game(to introduce Blaze, though she has good enough reception to appear in a comic exclusive story arc), Rivals(to introduce Silver to the comics), Sonic Riders series(Babylon Rogues introduced), Team Sonic Racing; along with Sonic Free Riders, it be like Sonic Heroes in racing form(ofc it go kinda differently like Shadow and Rouge wouldn’t treat Omega like garbage like they did for the Eggman robot).
Some of IDW isn’t too bad, in fact some of the already made stories can stay. What I would change is Knuckles to be in issue #2 while Amy in issue #3. Sonic and.Knuckles fight together taking down the hoard (in issue #2). Sonic later meets up with Amy then together they fight against Rough and Tumble (issue #3). With Amy her saying “I can’t change you/I love you the way you are” scene would stay, though her nagging Sonic to join The Resistance be otherwise. Knuckles wouldn’t do the same during issue #2.
IDW is going downhill to Archie tier level, as some say, so it’s probably better off to nix the comics and translate manga adaptations. Those are Japan’s better portrayals of the series which the west should have always aligned with from the start. SOA needs to get more serious with the Sonic franchise because they have took it as a general joke for too long and Sonic is mainly popular in the west. Whereas in Japan not as much. SOA and SOJ should just work together healthily to produce the best of what they could make.

Don't forget the Garrus analysis!
There’s no Shepard without Vakarian: An analysis of Garrus’ characterization in the Mass Effect franchise
Oh yes, thank you, Mun! During yesterday’s stream I commented I could write an analysis on how Garrus’ character arc is in many ways unusual, both within the Mass Effect franchise’s brand of storytelling, and in the broader scheme of how narratives tend to characterize principle personalities. Most main characters are given a significant arc that grows them greatly as an individual. By the end of the tale, they have actualized into someone with more experiences, abilities, and integrity. They stand on their own stronger than before. Garrus’ arc, interestingly enough, focuses less on him growing by himself, but rather him growing closer to Shepard.
A more typical characterization arc is found for most Mass Effect squadmates (especially those introduced in ME 2). It’s brilliant - large plot threads from major political scuffles, to individual personality plot threads of character internal conflict - are given arc, development, and wrap-up by ME 3. Mainly, squadmates are given a central conflict that is developed and resolved by the end of the storyline. To give a few examples:
Grunt is introduced with the problem of needing identity. He needs to become actualized as his own, personal krogan. By joining Clan Urdnot and leading the Aralakh Company, he becomes that krogan with a proud, personal, found identity.
Mordin’s character arc is wrapped around his complicated, conflicted logic and emotions regarding the genophage - whether it was, in fact, the correct choice to make. As much as his emotions and logic mostly agree that the second genophage was the correct move, his internal discomfort suggests that he’s not as settled in this choice as he should be. He’s still struggling. His logic and emotions come to a common goal to cure the krogan genophage in ME 3, leading him to internal peace. He goes from someone who sterilized the krogan, helping continue the collapse of krogan civilization… to their hero.
Miranda’s arc is focused around struggles with her abusive father. In the end, she can help her sister and stop Mr. Lawson once and for all.
Jacob struggles with the question of whether or not allying with a shady organization like Cerberus is okay so long as their mission goals are profitable and get the job done. His suspicions in ME 2 lead to worse experiences in ME 3; he leaves the organization and puts behind this conflict once and for all.
Wrex’s arc is about becoming a revolutionary leader. Shepard meets him after he gave up leading a small krogan clan. But he becomes reinspired to try to build his people into a stronger civilization, a stronger future.
Jack is introduced with emotional scars from an abusive past. As a child she was abused and exploited for her biotics. In the end, Jack helps nurture other biotic children into a greater future.
And so we can go through almost all squadmates this way: Ashley / Kaidan regarding trust, Samara regarding her Ardat-Yakshi familial legacy, Thane regarding his family and illness, EDI regarding what it means to be a sentient non-organic, etc. Characters are given a central problem, which they grow through and overcome.
But Garrus, I feel… is a little different.
Garrus’ arc is centered around the idea “There’s no Shepard without Vakarian.”
Now, it’s true Garrus has a few overarching problems he needs to handle throughout the franchise. It mainly involves his sense of enacting justice outside the scope of regulations. In the first game, he wants to hunt down Dr. Saleon, who got away because C-Sec regulations forbid Garrus from making risky capture moves the first time. In the second game, Garrus wants vengeance for Sidonis’ betrayal. Several times, Garrus plays a turian Robin Hood-esque character: he skirts the law and does his own vigilante thing to enact justice and punish immoral lawbreakers who have harmed others.
The thing is, these incidences are framed secondarily to Garrus’ main narrative contribution. These narrative arcs are used to reinforce Garrus’ attachment to Shepard.
Garrus does learn and grow based upon how Dr. Saleon and Sidonis are handled, yes. He’ll reach different conclusions depending upon whether you take Renegade or Paragon dialogue choices, but regardless, Garrus takes away these incidences as life lessons... life lessons pulled to him largely by Shepard’s sense of justice. Results of the Dr. Saleon mission come from Shepard’s guidance and philosophy, ideas that Garrus take to heart and mull over. The same sort of thing happens with Sidonis. Shepard’s interactions in these missions influence how Garrus thinks. He reflects upon the missions and (no matter what path players take) ultimately reaches the conclusion Shepard has a point. He aligns his thinking more with Shepard after each incident. Thus, Garrus’ experiences on the missions with Shepard aren’t about Garrus growing beyond a problem… so much as it leads him to become more synced with and loyal to Shepard.
Even the problem of Garrus’ imperfect relation with his father ultimately ties up to him building a bond with Shepard. In the first game, Garrus mentions that his father didn’t approve of Garrus taking Spectre training, so Garrus found himself as a C-Sec officer instead… albeit one who didn’t play by the books as his father did. That leads him to be interested in working with a Spectre and leaving C-Sec... all driving him to Shepard. Garrus does eventually go to his father by ME 3 - a surprising development - and tell his father about his ventures and the upcoming Reaper threat. Garrus gains his own task force to handle the Reapers and lead… which pulls him back into the central war efforts with Shepard. He’s yet again a squadmate with humanity’s first Spectre. Everything Garrus does ultimately draws him back to the Normandy.
All of Garrus’ problems in 1 and 2 are written to build that bond between Shepard and Vakarian. It’s fascinating - his character growth arc isn’t about one specific personal problem to characterize through, so much as it is about him aligning with someone else.
In this sense, the Shadow Broker’s dossier on Garrus is curious commentary on his characterization arc. The dossier begins:
Former C-Sec officer. Exceptional tactical and team-building skills. Leadership potential overshadowed by Shepard. Unlikely to fully develop under Shepard’s command.
Now Garrus does gain and expose these skills solo. He creates his team on Omega. He directs forces during the start of the war with the Reapers. But that is never where he fully actualizes, fully shines. Garrus being with Shepard is never narratively shown as a limitation, but contrarily, Garrus apart from Shepard is where he is shown to be weakest and most out-of-his-zone.
Characters out of their element can be one means of growth - it’s hard to grow unless you’re out of your comfort zone, after all - but it can also signify they’re not where they’re supposed to be. The latter is primarily how Garrus’ time apart from Shepard is depicted. If anything, his experiences on Omega worsen him into someone more emotionally unstable, hurt, and raw. And instead of it being a time where Garrus notably actualizes, it feels like a somewhat stagnant period of his life, where he’s living active inactivity, trying to figure out what to do now that Shepard is dead. Shepard reuniting with Garrus on Omega is one where Garrus is in a tight and unpleasant spot. He demonstrates he can lead and build a team like Shepard, but his experience also isn’t the one where he is depicted at his best and most heroic. He gains more motivation, resolve, and heroics when he joins the suicide Cerberus mission - he’s not just picking off villains on Omega, but now he’s out to save every human colony.
Where Garrus is depicted as his best is with Shepard. Maybe it’s just me, but I suspect that many fans get excited every time Garrus returns to the squad because they associate him with that friend always at Shepard’s side. He’s the bud Shepard can always count on. And over and over again, throughout the franchise, Garrus says some great quotes about his siding with Shepard. One of my favorites comes from the start of 2:
G: Frankly I’m more worried about you. Cerberus, Shepard. You remember those sick experiments they were doing?S: That’s why I’m glad you’re here, Garrus. If I’m walking into hell, I want someone I trust at my side.G: You realize this plan has me walking into hell too. Hmm… just like old times.
And then there’s Garrus’ character farewell in ME 3 before the final London charge. Most of these farewells bring up the central point of the character’s conflict in some way or another - for instance, Grunt thanking Shepard for taking him out of the tank, Samara mentioning the monastery where her final daughters have lived. It’s the final wrap-up to the story we’ve experienced through each squadmate. It’s to note that Garrus and Shepard’s conversation is not centered on justice, ruthless calculus, Garrus’ father, Sidonis, regulations, or any of Garrus’ other side-struggles. Garrus and Shepard focus the conversation on their friendship. On supporting each other. They talk about them being together - be it here on Earth, or up in the afterlife:
G: Shepard. So I guess this is…S: Just like old times?G: Heh. Huh. Mmm. Might be the last chance we get to say that.S: You think we’re going to lose?G: No, I think we’re about kick the Reapers back into whatever black hole they crawled out of. Then we’re going to retire somewhere warm and tropical and live off the royalties from the vids.S: I wouldn’t know what do with all my time. Neither would you.G: Sign autographs?S: We haven’t won yet.G: James told me there’s an old saying here on Earth - “May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you’re dead.” Not sure turian if heaven is the same as yours, but if this thing goes sideways and we both end up there, meet me at the bar. I’m buying.S: We’re a team, Garrus. There’s no Shepard without Vakarian. So you better remember to duck.G: Sorry, turians don’t know how. But I’ll improvise. And Shepard, forgive the insubordination, but this old friend has an order for you: Go out there, and give them hell. You were born to do this.S: Good-bye Garrus. And if I’m up there in that bar, and you’re not, I’ll be looking down. I’ll always have your back.
Between these two conversations, Garrus and Shepard literally talk about going through heaven and hell together. They connect through old times and forge into new times together, onward and onward. And there is an undying support between the two. They make each other stronger.
The Shadow Broker is sort of right that Garrus’ leadership potential overshadowed by Shepard. Garrus gains respect from teams on his own, but he never rises to that legend Shepard does by himself. That said, the Shadow Broker is also wrong that Garrus development is hindered by being around Shepard. Garrus being with Shepard is the best that Garrus is. The point of Garrus narratively is to be with Shepard, and that’s where he makes the most memorable storytelling difference. Garrus’ narrative is about being Shepard’s loyal best friend (or lover, if you romance him) - the second-in-command whose support is critical to the Milky Way’s salvation.
Garrus’ story isn’t centralized about how to handle justice outside regulation. Garrus’ story isn’t one about deciding what to do with gray morals and ruthless calculus, as much as he speculates about that topic. Garrus’ story isn’t one of getting out of Shepard’s shadow. It’s a story about him syncing with Shepard’s shadow.
The idea that there’s nothing sweeter than his loyal friendship.

How X of Swords Changed the Marvel Universe Future of the X-Men
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
After 22 chapters, Marvel’s massive X-Men crossover event, X of Swords has come to a close, and with it, the Dawn of X era. The story touched every book in the X-Men family and brought us answers to a few of the lingering questions that were casually tossed at the audience during House of X/Powers of X. But X of Swords asked more questions than it answered. And heading into the next phase of X-Mastermind Jonathan Hickman and the rest of the magnificent team of X-Men creators’ big plan, that’s a very good thing.
To set the stage going into Reign of X, we’ve decided to lay out some of the big questions asked in X of Swords (and by the Reign of X teaser image you see at the top of the page).
WHAT HAPPENED IN X OF SWORDS?
X of Swords was primarily three stories: Betsy Braddock’s journey towards fully becoming Captain Britain; Saturnyne trying to get Betsy to accept being Captain Britain (and trying to nail her brother Brian, the previous Captain Britain); and the payoff to the Krakoa/Arakko schism first introduced in Powers of X. It did all of those things magnificently, telling what ended up being a definitive Apocalypse story reuniting him with his long lost family, and reestablishing the Captain Britain Corps of multiversal guardians under Saturnyne’s control.
Along the way, the story also gave the X-team of creators a chance to cut loose and have a blast. The setup promised what was essentially a season of Dragon Ball Super in an X-Men comic: the battle for control of Krakoa and Arakko would come down to a tournament between 10 champions for each side, with each champion wielding a unique sword. The first half of the crossover followed several heroes as they tracked down their blades, and gave us some wonderful character moments with Magik, Cypher, Storm, the Braddocks, and others.
But once the tournament started, it ended up being the fighting equivalent of Whose Line Is It Anyway – the rules were made up and the points didn’t matter. There were definitely sword fights, and when they happened they were usually excellent, but there was also a drinking contest between Storm and Wolverine, and Gorgon and Magik did a jigsaw puzzle together, Doug married Bei the Blood Moon, and Gorgon banged a boulder.
When it came down to it, X of Swords was an Excalibur story, and it honored that book’s roots by being multiversal, very silly, and full of effective character growth. And very, very good.
In the end, Krakoa won the tournament when Apocalypse defeated his wife and the Annihilation Helm in single combat. Amenth did not take the loss well, and unleashed the full might of its army on Saturnyne and the Krakoans, but they were saved three times; first by the return of the full Captain Britain Corps; again when the X-Men rode in on the once and future S.W.O.R.D. headquarters and dumped a swarm of extradimensional cyborg virus people on the Amenthi monsters; and finally when Apocalypse claimed the Annihilation helmet, and ended the battle by surrendering to Saturnyne.
And at the end, when Saturnyne demanded an exchange of prisoners (sort of) between the two sides to seal the peace, Apocalypse decided to join his family on Amenth, and in return sent all of Arakko to join the Krakoans on Earth.
MILLIONS OF NEW MUTANTS AND A NEW LAND MASS JUST SHOWING UP IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE A THING, ISN’T IT?
For some people, sure. Presumably the already tense geopolitical situation created by a new mutant nation leveraging Krakoan superscience is going to have a little more pressure added to it when Krakoa doubles in physical size and adds millions of super powered beings born and raised in (approximately) hell.
Add to that the two open seats on the Quiet Council and you have a ton of politics that need examining, something that both X-Men and X-Force have done gladly since the relaunch.
WHAT TWO OPEN SEATS?
Apocalypse’s departure to wander Amenth with his wife and kids (honestly, this crossover is God-tier just for believably turning Apocalypse into a Wife Guy) left one Autumn seat open. The other open seat came when Marvel Girl joined Cyclops in some light insubordination at the climax of the story.
The Council repeatedly ruled against outside involvement in the Otherworld tournament – the 9 fighters could compete, but they weren’t sending anybody else (who mattered – more in a second), both because it wasn’t deemed safe for Krakoa to leave it unguarded, and because death on Otherworld scrambled the resurrection protocols. Cyclops and Marvel Girl decided that they couldn’t abide by that and rounded up an enormous crew of mutants, who they brought through on The Peak to save the day. However, when Marvel Girl joined, she resigned her seat on the Council.
That leaves two open seats, and speculation abounds about who might join their ranks.
The Spring seat vacated by Marvel Girl should be filled by someone with more traditional X-Men ties. Smart money here is on Angel, with Penance being another possible addition, in part because of the teaser. It looks like the long-rumored (and subtly referenced in Empyre: X-Men) X-Corp book is finally on its way, and we know that the heads of the mutants’ non-Hellfire corporate interests are Warren Worthington III and Monet St. Croix. They would be a logical addition and a nice counterbalance to the Hellfire Trading Company, which looks like it’s about to descend into chaos as Marauders follows up on Kitty Pryde’s murder at the hands of Sebastian Shaw from before the crossover.
Apocalypse’s seat is a complete wild card. Other Autumn seats are held by Professor X and Magneto, and with Apocalypse, the three represented three pillars of mutant philosophy. It’s not immediately clear who might be a suitable fit in that framework, but an Amenthi representative does make a certain amount of sense. Some have speculated Isca the Unbeaten might join the council, but I’m not sure the mutants would want to include in private strategic discussions someone whose mutant power compels them to switch sides if they’re going to lose.
WHAT IF THAT LAST SEAT GOES TO THE SHADOW KING?
Oh yeah that would really suck. Also, he’s prominently featured in the teaser, and it looks like he might be joining the cast of New Mutants when Vita Ayala takes over. That would be very, very bad. For the mutants. For us, that’s probably some good story.
WHAT HAPPENED TO BETSY?
It’s not entirely clear. She “died” in one of the earliest battles of the tournament, and we know from Rockslide’s death at the start of the crossover that dying on Otherworld scrambles your backups. What comes out of that egg is approximately whatever a slot machine that contains all of that person’s personalities from throughout the multiverse decides to shoot out.
However, when Captain Britain died in the tournament, she shattered into shards of stained glass. Shards that Saturnyne had collected, and then as all looked grim in the tournament, she pieced them back together and resurrected Betsy, and with her, a full Captain Britain Corps comprised of all the various Betsys from throughout the multiverse.
The Captain Britain Corps, as a refresher, was created by Merlin as a group of protectors of every corner of the omniverse. They served in that function largely uninterrupted until the multiverse was destroyed in Jonathan Hickman’s massive Avengers story that culminated in Secret Wars, when the Corps was demolished in battle by the Beyonders. That destruction caused Saturnyne to close off the Starlight Citadel and led to turmoil among the realms of Otherworld, so presumably the return of the Corps is going to help with stability there.
That said, Avalon is still governed by Jamie Braddock; Sevalith is a realm of vampires and has a possibly turned Death on it; Mercator is an unknown region, but sounds like it’s governed by another reality-altering omega mutant, Mister M; and the Crooked Market is administered by yet another reality warper, Mad Jim Jaspers. And Betsy Prime (or Betsy 616, as the main Marvel universe also reclaims its original number for the first time post-Secret Wars) is apparently missing. It would seem all of this will be followed up on in the pages of Tini Howard’s stellar Excalibur.
Skipping the obvious ones that are asked in the story – what kind of drama will grow out of Storm’s theft of the Wakandan sword; can Bei, Doug and Warlock manage a throuple; what happens when arakko and krakoa bang it out; where’s solem.
DID ALL THOSE HELLIONS DIE ON OTHERWORLD?
The only book that was functionally superfluous to X of Swords was Hellions, but that’s okay because it was such a riot. Mister Sinister gathered up his team on a Quite Council-sanctioned mission into Otherworld to try and steal the Amenthi swords before the tournament started. Unfortunately, they were extremely late and couldn’t do anything to help their Krakoan countrymen. On the other hand, that was exactly Sinister’s plan.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Sinister went to Amenth to get genetic material from the Amenthi mutants, to add to his collection. While there, he and his team met Tarn the Uncaring, Sinister’s Amenthi equivalent. Tarn unleashed his Vile School mutants on the Hellions, and absolutely wrecked them: Nanny and Orphan Maker were killed very quickly; Wild Child stayed behind to buy Psylocke, Havok, Empath, and Greycrow time to escape with the genetic goods Sinister stole; and Sinister himself is pulled apart by Tarn in the fight (it’s fine, he was a clone).
However, it’s not entirely clear where those four died or if it will have any bearing on their resurrection (Sinister is fine, he’s got another clone waiting for the Hellions on the Krakoan side of the Otherworld gate so he can shoot them before they tell anyone what happened). Also, Tarn survived, and it looks like he’s coming back to haunt this team of misfits in upcoming issues of Hellions.

Verses and AUs (Long Edition)
All these AUs can work with either Host or Author. I’ll write down only the Host option, though in the Human AU Author’s human name is also stated.
Most of these verses have been made from my old version of Host. Said Host is small, sort of depressed, pretty sad and soft. So the opposite of the new revamped Host. There might be differences in how I write Host due to having those two versions of Host.
I’ll make a second page for verses keeping my old version of Host in mind, which will be linked with every AU that has it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Human AU [Second Version]
Host is named Markus Barker. Sometimes uses Host as nickname.
He is either: Born blind (sclera/pupil milky).                       Blind due to a disease (Neuromyelitis Optica).
He lives on his own with his pets. He either:     Lives in his cabin in the forest.                       Lives on the outskirts of town with a garden.
He has an older brother (Arthur, world-wide known author).
He works on a rather popular podcast as main-narrator. He also either: Works at a radio station.                    Stays at home (financial help from his brother).
Can also go with human Author, the aforementioned brother of Host.
Both can also exist without brother.
Human Slave AU:
Host is named Markus Barker. Host is his nickname though
He is either: Born blind (sclera/pupil milky).                       Got his eyes gouged out by an owner.
He had been sold as slave when he had been a young child (around 4 y/o?).
Medieval AU: [Second Version]
Host is named Markus Barker.
He’s a servant for a noble household, with bad eyesight. He hates it there, but there’s nothing he can do if he doesn’t want to end up on the street. Even if that means being treated like dirt.
Royal AU: [Second Version]
Host is named Markus Barker.
He’s a rather young king (20-25) because his parents died in a tragic “accident”.
He’s rather strict, but very open-minded and protective of his kingdom.
He is as good as blind, only able to see colours and shapes, due to an accident as child.
in case of magic, his situation with Alden is pretty much the same, though they keep it hidden.
Neko AU: [Second Version]
He is named Host (by his mother)
He is 2'4"
He was born blind (sclera/pupil milky).
He is biologically female but identifies as male.
He was taken away from his mother from a very young age (too young to be taken away from his mother).
His first real owner mistreated him terribly.
He’s angry at the world and hates people, not afraid of them even with his very small size.
Broken Host AU:
This Host is based on the old fandom interpretation after MarkiplierTV:
Dark is at cause for taking Author’s eyes, in exchange for power.
Due to that Host is one of Dark’s “pawns” and is forced to tell him about visions and things in the future as soon as possible.
Due to basically abuse he was mentally broken by Dark.
He is extremely obedient to Dark.
He’s covered in scars and brandings (burn scars).
He doesn’t speak a lot.
He gets lost in his head, and especially in his narrations, a lot.
Angel AU:
Host is named Markus (he was once human).
His pupils are white (eyes usually covered up by a cloth)
He is a collector of souls from dying people.
He can see the souls of living beings with his eyes uncovered (but not allowed to do so technically).
His wings are white, the feather-tips golden.
Knows English more or less.
Mermaid AU: (other versions depending on size!)
Host goes by the name of Host.
He had almost been caught once by humans, which resulted in the loss of his eyesight, and thick scars over his eyes.
His scales are golden. His fins are slightly see-through, and tipped green. His ears are fins. He has fins on his underarms. He has scales on his shoulders and arms.
He has scales that glow in the dark, and markings on his face which also glow in the dark (not visible unless glowing)
He’s a siren, and thus can speak and understand English.
Underwater mermaids communicate via clicking sounds (kinda like morse code, but different).
Fairy AU: (Basically an OC shhh) (More extra info here)
Host is named Rhosyn, but may go by the name Host as well.
He is a (flower) fairy.
He can change his size, between 0.5 inches and 3 feet.
His wings are large and slightly see-through. Golden in colour, with intricate swirls covering them.
(The rest of his looks)
He lives in a small flower field he takes care of by himself.
He is blind, but has learned to see magic.
Every living thing (from humans, to fae, to plants) have magic to some amount, which he can see and tell what he is looking at.
Harpy AU
Host has no name he goes by, but will let anyone name him
He is 8 inches tall
He’s a brown thrasher harpy
He has slightly darker skin (than Mark), short, like brown fuzz on his head resembling hair; white feathers with dark spots on his chest and hips down his thighs, where his legs then turn into bird’s feet; dark brown, almost black eyes. His wings have light brown feathers.
He mainly eats fruits, berries, nuts and insects
He isn’t afraid to attack anything larger than him, going so far as to attack humans if he has to
Forest Deity AU (It’s basically an OC shh)
Host goes by the name Elvin, since the forest he lives in is called Elvin Forest (Elvin means friend of elves)
He’s 5'3 tall
He has long dark brown hair, reaching his mid-back. His eyes are the color of tree resin/amber, the colour looking different depending on the light. He has “antlers”, long branches growing from his head and upwards. They change with the season; growing leafs and flowers; but are always decorated with little trinkets. He’s always bare-footed.
He is “bound” to one tree, which would hurt and kill him if it were chopped down. But he is also the heart of the forest, feeling with it, and it feeling with him
He has magical powers, and can talk to plants, trees and animals
For the people he is something of a myth: some people pray to him, some people ask for help or advice, some don’t believe in him
Fused AU:
Host isn’t a regular ego but also is an ego
TBH I’m uncertain about the lore of this either I’d say all egos are fused or this is a punishment made by Dark or smth
Host is “fused” with his recording equipment
Headphones always on his head, microphone in a metal mask strapped over his mouth
A rig on the back of his chair connected to his arms and hands which controls his movement. He can’t stand up
(Inspired by this drawing, and how he looks like in the AU)
Little Demon AU:
Host is a demon, still called Host
He is 7 inches tall
He has dark purple horns and two tails, and no bandages, but keeps his eyes closed
Looking into his eyes will cause the looker to be pulled into their own mind and be faced with their deepest and darkest fear
Host will be able to see that and interact with the person there, but also leave them there alone to suffer
He can “teleport” short distances, mostly through shadows
Doll AU: / It’s basically an OC shhh
Host is called Benjamin
He is a porcelain doll, 20 inches tall
He is typically asleep, and only comes to life and awakens after 4-5 days of constant care and love towards him
He stays alive through the love and care and want to have him alive from his owner, but also needs to be near them
If left alone and too far away from his owner for too long, his energy will slowly vanish throughout a few days. Making him tired, sluggish, and slow, until he can’t manage to walk anymore, and then can’t keep his eyes open
He was made in 1667 and has been with 19 different people/families throughout his life
A/B/O AU: [Second Version]
If human, Host goes by Markus Barker, Host as a nickname.
He’s a little feminine looking, but due to his height, no one suspects he’s anything but an Alpha.
He’s an Omega. Takes suppressants and scent-blockers to hide this status though.
Child Host AU:
Normal Host technically, but Host is a child now.
He’s 3'3".
He looks the exact same pretty much.
He doesn’t have any memories of being an adult.
Alden is also affected by this, and is brought to a more child-like state.
Asylum AU
Host goes by the name The Host
He is locked in a cell because of hallucinations and unreliable behaviour
Eyes AU
Host still has his eyes
Author was actually more timid and nice and not lusting after power
Dark absolutely hates him because Host doesn’t let himself be manipulated
(Inspired by this picture)
Swap AU
Host is swapped with Dark
He is monochrome. He wears a black trenchcoat and black tights, as well as knee-high black combat boots. He has a bright strand of hair, no eyes, and bandages around his eyes.
Here’s some info about the swap AU and Host’s backstory
He is called Darkiplier in this AU (pronounced Dark-eplí-er? sorta french lol)
He talks in third person as a comfort mechanism
He doesn’t really have a goal like normal Dark (getting revenge on Actor) but he takes care of the other egos and keeps them safe and in check
He does his radio show still, but has no narrating powers
Forest Creature AU
Host had died in the forest wishing to be a part of it
He is still humanoid, but he is covered in moss, leafs, plants, etc, growing all over him. Flowers grew over his blind eyes.
He fell in love with Edward Iplier, but he died in his arms. He is alone.
Banished Author AU
Author was banished into the void by Dark due to Dark believing Author would grow to become very dangerous towards himself and others
He had been stuck in the void, all by himself, for years
Being stuck in the void, he doesn’t physically age, and has no bodily needs
The void seeped into him, mixed with him, changing him
While he still has his powers of writing, and they are still primarily that, the void is a part of him now in a way
Little Space: (nsfw-ish)
Normal verse Host
In headspace he’s either around 1 year or around 4-6 years old
He usually is alone in his room to be little on his own
He largely prefers to be diapered and wear soft clothes
-slides up to ask meme bar- hey can i get a fuckennnnuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the entirety of team dark please if it's not too much trouble otherwise you will have to pick who because I sure can't
-slams hands on desk- THIS IS WHY I MARRIED YOU
2-4 songs that are probably on their iPod
Rouge - Blow by Ke$ha, Cake by Melanie Martinez, and Summertime Sadness by Lana del Rey
Shadow - Straight To Video by Mindless Self Indulgence, The City by Hollywood Undead, Awake and Alive by Skillet
Omega - Artillery by Infected Mushroom, Kill Everybody by Skrillex, Sprawling Idiot Effigy by Nero’s Day At Disneyland
the one place they sometimes end up falling asleep — where they’re not supposed to
Rouge has a bad habit of going to sleep under ceilings at G.U.N., especially during boring meetings. Omega sometimes shuts down in the middle of boring meetings on purpose in order to make a statement, specifically regarding the lack of action, and how few things are around that he’s allowed to blow up. Rouge and Omega also frequently come home to find Shadow in an awkward position on the couch, he never means to nap but he ends up doing it anyway.
the game they’d destroy everyone else at
Omega naturally destroys everyone at rhythm-based games because of his perfect robot coordination and quick pattern-finding abilities. Shadow has a weird knack for old sidescroller games. Rouge is really good at all kinds of puzzle games, her brain is wired for problem-solving.
the emoticon they’d use most often
Rouge uses entirely too many emoticons in general, but the kissy lips and hearts are her favorites. Shadow never uses emoticons, but once in a while, he’ll send Rouge a text that’s just e_e if he feels like she’s about to drag the team into something they won’t be able to get out of as easily as she might think. Omega sends a lot of explosion emojis with some 100′s and claps in between in case anyone was in doubt about his stance on explosions.
what they act like when they haven’t had enough sleep
Rouge and Shadow both get really mopey and slightly pathetic, and their ability to request physical affection goes way up as a result. whenever they’ve been on missions for slightly too long, they can often be found in a corner somewhere leaning on each other, or one of them falling asleep half curled up on the other’s lap. Omega doesn’t get tired, being a robot and all, but he gets really fighty when low on chaos drives. more so than normal. he can’t really follow up on all the threats he makes to various people, animals and household objects, but the sentiment is there for sure.
their preferred hot beverage on really cold nights. or mornings. or whenever.
Rouge likes coffee, Shadow is more of a chamomile tea kind of person. Rouge will occasionally pour hot water on Omega in order to help him stay temperate in the cold.
how they like to comfort/care for themselves when they’re in a slump
Shadow and Omega have never heard of the concept of self-care even once, but luckily for them, Rouge is extremely good at it and will drag them into taking care of themselves in various ways. Rouge herself likes to stay at home and practice different types of makeup and use skin care products and eat overly expensive food and feel glamorous at home on her own couch. Shadow sometimes gets in on the makeup shenanigans and actually finds it really fun in his own quiet, awkward way. He also likes to just sit around by himself a lot and watch mindless tv and drink tea. Omega has, over time, been convinced, primarily by Rouge, to go outside sometimes without any real purpose and just kind of look around at the world. He’s still relatively new to being alive compared to organic people, and though he doesn’t exactly hold most things in high regard unless they’re 1. Shadow or 2. Rouge, he’s slowly learning to appreciate the world outside his ongoing revenge mission. Bit by bit, he’s learning to let more thoughts in than just “haaaate.”
what they wanted to be when they grew up
Rouge always wanted to be a jewel thief, encouraged by her slightly criminal but very loving and supportive mother. Shadow was taught since his creation that he was supposed to be humanity’s heroic guardian, and until his memories were altered, that’s exactly what he wanted to be. Omega naturally went into the mission he was created for with the same amount of enthusiasm as Eggman’s other robots, not knowing that if all went according to plan, completing his mission would mean staying in stasis forever.
their favorite kind of weather
Rouge loves slightly cloudy nights where she can move around undetected in the dark. Shadow likes the cool seasons the most, especially those cold, frosty sunny days that happen right before the first snow of the year falls. Omega prefers dry days with medium temperatures, because both heat, cold and large amounts of rain can mess with his systems.
thoughts on their singing voice (decent? terrible? soprano? alto?)
Rouge has a great singing voice with a lot of power behind it, but she can’t go very high or very low. Shadow’s voice has more versatility, but isn’t that remarkable aside from the fact that he’s good at hitting the right notes. Omega could probably actually create his own dubstep tracks with his voice box and it would sound awesome.
how/what they like to draw or doodle
Rouge naturally doodles little gemstones in different cuts in the margins of her G.U.N. reports. Shadow and Omega don’t doodle much, but when they do, it’s mostly just scribbles with no real rhyme or reason. Shadow’s tend to be swirly and elegant, Omega’s are a lot of hard lines and randomly underlining words, sometimes hiding secret meanings.
This was rectified to match the original artwork in Crystal.Sneasel can be seen as a parallel to Gligar. Both of them are dual-types, have the same base stat total, evolve into Pokémon that were introduced in Generation IV, and do so by leveling up at night while holding items both containing the word razor.OriginSneasel may be based on the kamaitachi, a type of yokai often represented as weasel demons with sickles on their front legs and sometimes understood as the cause of mysterious cuts on the skin, especially in cold weather. It also shares some traits with cats and weasels. Its eye markings are similar to that of ones in Egyptian style, possibly Horus's.Name originSneasel is a combination of sneaky and weasel. It may also derive from sneeze, an action associated with having a cold or being cold, referring to its Ice-type.Nyula may be a combination of 潜入 sennyū (sneaking in) and 鼬 yū (weasel, an alternate reading of itachi). Alternatively, it may be a combination of new and 野良 nora (stray, as in a stray cat, as strays are usually violent and tricky). Nyu itself may be a combination of ニャー nya (the sound a cat makes) and 鼬 yū.In other languagesLanguage Title MeaningJapan Flag.png Japanese ニューラ Nyula From 潜入 sennyū, ニャー nya, 鼬 yū, new, and 野良 noraFrance Flag.png French Farfuret From farfadet and furetSpain Flag.png Spanish Sneasel Same as English nameGermany Flag.png German Sniebel From its English name and DiebItaly Flag.png Italian Sneasel Same as English nameSouth Korea Flag.png Korean 포푸니 Popuni Hong Kong Flag.png Cantonese Chinese China and Taiwan Flags.png Mandarin Chinese 狃拉 Niǔlā Transliteration of its Japanese nameMore languagesIndia Flag.png Hindi स्निजेल Sneasel Transcription of English nameRussia Flag.png Russian Снизел Snizel Transcription of English nameRelated articlesSilver's SneaselHarrison's SneaselExternal links← Heracross #214: HeracrossPokémon#216: Teddiursa Teddiursa →Project Pokédex logo.png This Pokémon article is part of Project Pokédex, a Bulbapedia project that aims to write comprehensive articles on each Pokémon as a species.Categories: Generation II PokémonDark-type PokémonIce-type PokémonDual-type PokémonPokémon in the Johto PokédexPokémon in the Sinnoh PokédexPokémon in the Unova Pokédex in Black and White Versions 2Pokémon in the Kalos PokédexPokémon in the Alola PokédexPokémon with a gender ratio of one male to one femalePokémon in the Medium Slow experience groupBlack-colored PokémonBody style 06 PokémonField group PokémonPokémon with wild held itemsPokémon with a base stat total of 430Pokémon whose base Speed stat is greater than 100Pokémon with 18 max performance starsBody size 1 PokémonPages with broken file linksPokémon that are part of a two-stage evolutionary linePokémon with cross-generational evolutionsPokémon that evolve based on timePokémon that evolve by leveling up with a held itemPokémon that evolve only at nightPokémon that evolve through held itemsRanger Partner PokémonShadow Pokémon in Pokémon ColosseumNavigation menucreate account log inSearch Bulbapedia Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 Powered by MediaWikiThis page was last modified on 13 May 2017, at 17:31.
