I recently started playing Love Live again for some reason and that made me wanna makes some idol cards of my own
Have some indulgent changeling art. Changelings my beloved.
(I made more but I may wait to see if I decide to color them. I just drew both of these in one day and now I’m in love with my own character. Is it possible I drew them to look too charming?)

[ID: six images of the character Grigory Habit from the Uncle Au of the game Smile For Me, all images are drawn traditionally with pencils with inked lineart.  First image shows a side view of a right-facing Grigory in his elder years with a morose expression.
Second image shows a teenage Grigory in a grey dress, black shoes, and longer hair in a pony tail, he is in a pose that’s meant to mockingly imitate ghosts with wiggling raised fingers and one leg up, he says in a speech bubble “Boo” with a bored expression.
Third image shows the same teenage Grigory in the same clothes but attempting to poorly hide behind a wall that ends up showing most of him with only his right face, lower arms, and left foot being covered by the wall.
Fourth image is a younger child Grigory with long poofy shoulder lengthed hair and wearing a brown long sleeved shirt, his arms are posed in a raptor position and his body is facing to the left side but he stares at the viewer with a intense glare and his upper face shaded.
Fifth image shows the same young Grigory now fully facing the viewer with a more happier and bright expression, he asks the viewer in two speech bubbles “Do you two want to Play? Yes two... you and the see-through one...” End ID]
Some more Grigory doodles from earlier, with some showing how he was during his teen and childhood years.
He was a shy and quiet kid that had the odd habit of staring at others and at seemingly ‘empty’ places that definitely weren’t full of ghosts and always seemed to know a little more than he should, but he was otherwise a sweet kid.
Teen Grigory was a grumpy teen but he has his reasons, being like... a closeted trans man who survived a war and dealt with a shitty family.
I hc Grig as being autistic (though undiagnosed being he was born in 1930s Russia) and that he raptor hand stims, because feck u I can project :)

Helluva Boss Trailer Analysis!
Yes, I watch this.  Yes, I like it.  No, I won’t argue with you about it.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s just say that I was up when the trailer dropped, and was still up for a bit after.  I’ve watched it so many times now, just absorbing everything, and now it’s time to break it down.
I’ve seen a few breakdowns already, but I noticed that there were a few things people hadn’t mentioned.  So I’m tossing my hat in the ring, let’s see if we can figure out what Vivziepop has in store for us!
I’ll be breaking down by scene, as well as go over voiceovers and predictions real quick, so prepare for a read after the cut!
Ok, first, had to laugh at Millie’s Peppermint Vodka Molotov Cocktail.  Creative, but what a waste of vodka :(  The background is of a beach, but she’s not in beach clothes (let’s face it, a bikini would probably kill Moxxie)
Moxxie is shooting at something while he’s swinging from a rope in a deserted theater.  Piano on the floor, and a sun pattern on the back wall
Blitzø (thanks for the copy/paste, Google) cleaving a blonde in half with a baseball bat.  Damn, he stronk!
Diss Summar’, with the little doodles!  So cute :3
Drunk/drugged/in shock Moxxie, poor Millie, and something big bursting out from the water behind.  Tied to first scene?
Stolas’ ‘Special Access’ bit from the Sneak Peeks, talking about the Harvest Moon festival in Wrath
Moxxie and Blitzø in a green lit room, looks like a two-way mirror on the wall.  Interrogation?
Correction to ‘Diss Season’ XD  Hopefully that means we’ll get an episode before spring, but if they need more time, that’s understandable
Glammed up Stolas at some kind of burlesque, owned by Asmodeus ‘Ozzie’, Prince of Hell’s Lust circle.  Wonder why he’s there...
CHERUBS!!!  Also from the Sneak Peeks, we know that this is a commercial, and that the TV showing said commercial gets blown up a few seconds later
Angry Blitzø, probably yelling at Moxxie, being scared shitless by a hellhound behind him.  I think this is a repo/impound/chop-shop guy who took IMP’s van, as in a later scene, they’re shown in a fence with other cars, especially because Blitzø yells ‘RUN’ at the end of the scene
Loona and Blitzø filming someone’s misery (again, probably Moxxie).  They’re in western outfits, but they’re probably still in Hell
Tentacle wrapping around drugged Moxxie and taking him, too fast for Millie to react and stop it.  Again, looks like it’s tied to the first and fifth scenes
Sassy Blitzø, probably talking to the repo-hellhound or punching-bag Moxxie.  Same setting as scene 11
Blitzø running to the window of what looks like a recording studio, with ‘VM’ spray painted on the doors next to him.  He looks distraught, but it’s not clear why
Recently choked-out Moxxie recovering, while being frame by a spiny-tailed Imp wearing what I assume is a serape, since it looks like they’re on the ranch Loona and Blitzø cheered a poor soul, scene 12
DEPRESSED BIRD DADDY.  WHY ARE YOU SAD???  IS IT GONNA MAKE ME SAD??? OH NO I’M NOT READY unless its a flashback, but stilllll
Perturbed Blitzø holding his special flintlock in a western-themed room.  Looks like he has his outfit from scene 12 on, probably the same episode, but whatever happened/is going to happen, it’s not good
Dressed-up Moxxie, who probably jumped bombed a performance, is upstaged by Robo Fizz and most likely a Robo Ozzie, given the designs on its’ head(s).  He looked uneasy even before the Robos popped up, so something else was going on first.
Scaley eye blinking and getting MAD, attached to the tentacle that kidnapped Moxxie?
50% off add for Spring Break victims, complete with coffee stain, and Blitzø‘s horse doodles.  I got a mental image of Moxxie scolding Blitzø for drawing at work, so he BS’d it into an ad.
Either Blitzø is a terrible driver, or they’re trying to speed away from someone.  Repo-hound, maybe?
HUMAN!!!  Almost definitely a human pop-star singing on a Coachella-esque stage!  I tried to fill in her name, but could only get ideas of what some letters were.  Her initials are most likely VM, from the recording studio scene, but the bottoms of some letters could be an E or L, K or R, so we’re left with V~(L/E)(K/R)OSI(K/R)A MA~~.  It also looks like she’s wearing heels, so she may be the person who threw Blitzø in a later scene
Moxxie about to be trampled by what can only be a horse, given his outfit.  Loona and Blitzø are probably filming XD
Shocked Stolas, standing up at table.  Same outfit as the burlesque, but he doesn’t looked surprised enough that it’s the part where Moxxie is upstaged, more something emotionally jarring.  Blitzø kissing someone else, maybe?
Blitzø pushing Moxxie out of the way and pinning him just outside a Hell portal in an alley, most likely Earth.  Blitzø looks mad, and rightly so, as he’s looking a little beat up himself.  Connected to the interrogation scene?
Happy Blitzø turns horrified outside some elevators with Moxxie.  Judging by the water cooler in the back, I think he’s about to slam into the recording studio.  Behind him, Moxxie gives no shits
Blitzø looking miffed, maybe at something Moxxie said.  Looks like the same scene with the repo-hound, as the setting itself looks like an impound lot, with the IMP van smack-dab in the middle of it.  I love that the license plate is IMP-666 though
Unhappy Blitzø (ok, let’s be honest, when IS he happy?)
Moxxie swinging Millie around in the deserted theater, passionately frenching each other
Blitzø getting pushed down by a horned, high-heeled... someone.  Again, might be the pop star from earlier, but there’s horns...  Maybe the pop star is human-passing, and has an alternate demonic form, like the Hazbin Hotel cast?
Western-clad Blitzø pulling his flintlock on someone, most likely before scene 18.  Most definitely Hell, judging by the poster and previous scenes, but I’m digging the décor
Blitzø not getting a break at all during this trailer and being yeeted into a dumpster, which closes on him.  Gonna take a stab and say it’s outside the burlesque Stolas and Moxxie were in, from the colors and posters of Lust Ring, Personal Companion Robo-Fizz, and Angel Dust.
The next scene is of him climbing out of a dumpster to fall into another pile of trash.  He just doesn’t get a break, does he?  It doesn’t look like the dumpster outside the burlesque, but it is similar to the alley with the hell portal, where Blitzø pinned Moxxie.  Maybe not the same scene, but most likely same episode.
Editor being absolutely plastered, teasing all the fun stuff to come in 2021, since 2020 can go f*ck itself.
And that’s a really in-depth breakdown of all the scenes in the trailer!  Now, for the voiceovers.
First, Loona’s asking if anyone ‘Can feel that?’.  Interesting thing to ask, so we’ll have to wait and see what catastrophe happens
Millie gently yelling at Moxxie to ‘DON’T PANIC’
A calm voice announcing an elevator’s departure to the Lust circle of Hell, which is most likely where the burlesque and Robo scenes are.  As to who is going, it’s either Stolas or the IMP crew, or maybe both?
Horny Stolas cooing ‘Oh, Blitzy!’, followed by Loona’s ‘SHUT THE F*CK UP’ from the Loo Loo Land episode.  Finally, I have a high-res clip I can set as my ringtone!
Blitzø yelling  ‘Dammit, Moxxie, this is all your fault!’, which may or may not be true since he scapegoats Moxxie, who replies ‘How is this my fault???’
Pop star asking, ‘Y’all ready to get f*cked up and make some b*tchin’ bad choices?’.  It’s most likely her talking, since the her lips synch up with her scene, and it’s a new voice we haven’t heard before.
Moxxie’s cut off ‘M*THERF*CKER!!!’.  So happy I get to hear Invader Zim go off, poor boy needs it XD
Blitzø being Blitzø and trying to tone down a big deal, stating again that he doesn’t pry into their personal lives, even though he obvious does (see Helluva Boss Pilot for more)
Robo Fizz’s line from Loo Loo Land asking if anybody loved Blitzø.  I’m gonna be honest and say that line choked me up in Loo Loo Land, and so did Blitzø’s response, until ‘But I’m really good with guns now.  DANCE, B*TCH!’
Moxxie ending with ‘That is deeply unsettling’, again from Loo Loo Land.  Throwing shade on Helluva Boss haters, maybe? :3
All right, now, predictions!
Chaos in a theater, with focus maybe on Millie and Moxxie’s relationship, maybe an origin story?  It won’t be the only one, with the tentacle beach monster and drugged Moxxie bits, so we can expect a lot of story and character development from the two of them.
Farm episode!  Blitzø either drags them onto a farm, or there’s a client who invites them, but sh*t will happen.
Really excited to see what happens in the Lust ring, and for the return of Robo Fizz!  Baby boy only got a few minutes of screen time, but is currently my favorite character.
Repo episode of rescuing the IMP van, probably resulting in overall team building and character development.  I really want to see Loona tear a new one into that *sshole-looking hellhound, though.
Pop star episode!  Really excited to meet this new character, I wonder what her name is and how close I was XD  Either Blitzø and Moxxie break into her recording studio to meet her, or she’s a client, but we’ll see!
Trapped on Earth/Run in with Earth authorities episode?  That interrogation room didn’t exactly look Hellish, and they obvious meet some kind of resistance while on Earth that looked like it was gonna get messy...
Stolas episode!  Please please please be flashback and story, I loved Loo Loo Land but really want some more lore and development on his character and maybe relationship with Blitzø.  Bird obviously needs to work through some things, and I really want to watch him grow, ever since I saw him struggle to tell Octavia why he was cheating.  Him stuttering and ultimately being unable to find a reason why really hit home, and I’m glad it was something they included since in media, it’s always ‘Well, she’s really ugly’ or ‘I don’t love him anymore’.  He still has feelings for his wife, but wanted to f*ck Blitzø too.
Even without the trailer, we do know that we’re getting episodes focusing on CHERUB and a Harvest Moon festival, but still.  There’s so much content Vivzie and Co have been working hard to make, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.  Dark comedy aside, there’s so much story they can make just around these four characters, following their growth and happenings around Hell.  It’s such a cool premise and one that hasn’t been washed and worn so many times, like cop or murder shows, and I can see this going on for quite a bit.
Well, here’s to an exciting 2021!  Thank you for all your hard work, Vivizepop, keep it up!

Axel Scheffler
Tumblr media
In this post, Axel takes us on a journey through his art studio and career. As well as sharing wonderful development work from some of his much-loved picturebooks, he shows us unseen sketchbook pages, early illustration commissions, etchings he made as a student, and his recent work to educate children about the coronavirus.
Visit Axel Scheffler’s website
Axel: I’m not really sure how many books I’ve illustrated in the 30+ years that I’ve been working. Over 150. I mostly work for the UK market, but occasionally I do books with German publishers. Not picturebooks though, so nothing that collides with the co-edition market.
Tumblr media
Each of the boxes you see here contains one of my books: the sketches, illustrations, dummies, alternate versions of covers, everything.
Tumblr media
I organised these boxes with Liz, my assistant, to have all the main books there so we can find things for exhibitions. There’s still lots of drawings in these boxes which aren’t sorted yet. Liz is such a great help, but it’s very difficult for me to keep on top of everything. I think I would probably need two Lizes, or perhaps three.
So yes, I don’t really know where to begin... I’ve got endless sketchbooks and little drawings on paper. I’ve got some really old sketchbooks I could show you.
Shall we start with The Gruffalo?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My early sketches of the Gruffalo were thought by my editor to be too scary for small children. So I had to make him a bit rounder and more ‘cuddly’. Initially, I‘d also thought that all the animals would be wearing clothes, as they often do in picturebooks. But Julia had different ideas, and to be honest I was relieved. How would I have dressed the snake?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s some spreads from the dummy...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tried a lot of alternate covers for this book; I think there were twelve in total. There’s some where the Gruffalo doesn’t even feature on the cover.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My latest book with Julia is called ‘The Smeds and The Smoos’. It was quite nice to work on because it’s so different from the other books we’ve done together. The text is a bit like a mixture between Dr Seuss and Lewis Carol; it has this nonsense element. But it’s basically Romeo and Juliet in outer space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s an alien story, so I didn’t have to draw any rabbits or squirrels for a change, and I could invent more. I had more freedom. But like always, I got bored with drawing the same characters over and over again. But that’s picturebooks.
Tumblr media
There was quite a lot of development work in the case of this book. But when it’s a story about a fox or a squirrel, I don’t do this kind of stuff. Over the years, it’s become much quicker and easier working on my books. I do far less research than I used to. Now I generally just do a quick pencil sketch then go straight to artwork.
Sometimes I have to start again because things go wrong though. This was a finished piece that was abandoned. I think I suddenly thought that the rocket was far too big or something. I do that; I work on something for ages, and then I suddenly look at it from a distance and realise that something needs redoing.
Tumblr media
Did you spot the little Gruffalo in this picture? Since ‘The Snail and the Whale’, I’ve hidden a Gruffalo in each of my books with Julia (not ‘The Ugly Five’ though).
For almost all of the books Julia and I have done together, our editor has been Alison Green. We’re an old established team. And I’ve always worked with the publisher Kate Wilson; I followed her from Macmillan to Scholastic, and then to Nosy Crow. Julia moved from Macmillan to Scholastic, and decided to stay there. So Julia and I have some of our joint titles with Macmillan and some with Scholastic. Julia does books with other illustrators for Macmillan, and I illustrate other books for Nosy Crow.
People often ask me which of the books I’ve done with Julia is my favourite. It’s quite hard to choose, but I enjoyed working on ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’. I liked the way I could do a crazy world with animals, giants, fairytale characters, everything mixed together without anyone caring or questioning it. I’ll show you a few things from the box...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For this book, the cover was changed at the last minute. The original design had the title written on a poster stuck on a brick wall, but the sales people said they wanted a landscape, so I did another one. Years later, they used the original design for a new paperback edition, so it wasn’t completely wasted in the end.
Tumblr media
I mentioned my endless sketchbooks earlier. I’ll show you a few of them. This was mainly me playing around without thinking about what I was doing; it wasn’t a conscious thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I haven’t looked at these sketchbooks for ages. It was such a long time ago. I don’t work in sketchbooks like this anymore, and I no longer doodle. But for fun, I make illustrated envelopes for friends.
I often think about doing a book with just pictures, but I’m always too busy doing other things. Posthumously, perhaps there will be time to do this. I’d also love to experiment and be more spontaneous; it’s been my dream for decades to do something completely different. But when I receive a book project, I always feel under pressure to finish it, and I’m always late with everything, so I end up doing it the way I’ve always done it.
This is my drawing table, which is and always has been too small and too messy. I think I have to accept it will always be this way.
Tumblr media
I use Saunders Waterford paper for my illustrations. It’s funny how we all have our special paper. My rough sketches are often quite small, so I have them blown up to the correct size. Then I trace the sketches on a lightbox onto my watercolour paper. After that, I draw the outlines in black ink with a dip pen. I colour everything with Ecoline inks using brushes, and then coloured pencils on top of it (I use Faber Polychromos and Prismacolour crayons). I might then need to redraw some of the black lines, or use some white gouache for highlights.
Tumblr media
I studied History of Art in Hamburg, but left before graduating. I realised this wasn’t what I was good at; I’m not an academic.
Then I had to do my alternative service as conscientious objector. Sixteen months. There was still conscription then; that’s how old I am. I worked with mentally ill people in their homes. It was during this time that I had a friend studying ceramics at Bath Academy of Art in England. I went to visit her. I really didn’t know what else to do, so I thought maybe I could move to Bath and go to the art school. So this is what I did. The course was Visual Communications, so it was design, printmaking, photography, all that stuff. But I realised I only wanted to do illustration.
I’d gone to art college hoping to learn something. I don’t think that necessarily happened, but drawing intensively for three years was, I think, what I had needed to do. I don’t remember actually finishing any projects though.
Here’s some drawings from my student sketchbooks. I did lots of observational drawing back then, which I don’t anymore. I did it then because they told us to. I’m an obedient person!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While I was a student, I did an exchange in New York: Cooper Union Art College for three months. These drawings are of Jewish immigrants, meeting for coffee. It was 1984, so many of them were still alive; refugees from Germany or Austria. I heard them speaking German, so that’s how I knew.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sketchbooks are such a good way of memorising things. Nobody really knows about these sketchbooks; I used to take them to interviews, but they’ve been hidden away for years.
After I graduated, I moved to London and took my portfolio around. My art teacher had suggested I should do this to get work, so that’s what I did. In those days, you had to ring them and ask to come around. I got two commissions straight away, and it’s been busy ever since, really. I’ve always had something to do.
Here’s some of my early commissions. Starting from 1985, I guess. Very pointy noses...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did so much of this kind of work. It was a good way of earning money quickly. Occasionally, I still do editorial. I did some Brexit drawings for the remain campaign. Sadly, it didn’t help. Maybe I wrecked everything!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ll say a few words about the KIND book... 38 wonderful artists donated a picture to illustrate some of the many ways children can be kind. Such as sharing their toys or helping people from other countries to feel welcome.
One pound from each book sold goes to the Three Peas charity, which supports refugees from war-torn countries. It’s been a big success so far, and Three Peas has received a lot of money from sales in the UK and co-editions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’d quite like to do the UNKIND book next! I think illustrators would probably enjoy that, but I don’t imagine it would sell very well.
And now for something completely different! Some etchings I made when I was a student.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
People often ask me which illustrators I’m inspired by. I don’t seek any direct influence on my work, but I’ve always said that Tomi Ungerer had the greatest influence on my approach to illustration. Although his style is quite different to mine, this humour and wackiness is something that has always appealed to me. And the details.
William Steig is someone I got into later, when I was already illustrating. And Edward Gorey of course. And Saul Steinberg. I think the Czech artist Jiří Šalamoun is wonderful. And I like Eva Lindström from Sweden a lot. She’s so great.
Okay, to finish with I’ll talk about the coronavirus work I’ve been doing...
I asked myself what I could do as a children’s illustrator to inform, as well as entertain, my readers here and abroad about the coronavirus. So I was glad when Nosy Crow asked me to illustrate a book on the subject. I think it’s extremely important for children and families to have access to reliable information in this unprecedented crisis.
You can download the free digital book in English here, and in over 60 other languages here.
Tumblr media
I also wanted to do something light-hearted to cheer people up, and I thought, “What if I imagine some of our characters in corona situations?” Julia liked the idea and wrote rhymes for the new scenes. This was really more about entertainment than serious information.

Dragon Ball Z 202
Tumblr media
Last episode, Gohan created a superhero persona to disguise himself while he fights crime.   By acting as the Great Saiyaman, no one at school will find out that it’s really Gohan.
Tumblr media
This episode, he blows the whole thing on the second day, because some girl is on the roof when he switches out of his costume.   Hijinks, as they say, shall ensue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gohan isn’t sure what to do here, so he just sort of walks past the girl and worries about it.
Tumblr media
He gets so wrapped up in the problem that he doesn’t pay attention in class, so the teacher makes him stand outside.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the girl is in the same class, and she’s doodling Gohan in her notebook.    This looks pretty good, but I always wonder if when cartoon characters sketch someone in the house style, is it supposed to be photorealistic, or cartoony?
Tumblr media
Anyway, the girl, Angela, is so consumed with thoughts about Gohan that she doesn’t pay attention to class either, and she breaks down in tears when she gets in trouble.
Tumblr media
But she uses this as an excuse to go stand outside, where Gohan is.   The teacher didn’t actually tell her to do this, but what’s he gonna do?   Punish her for pre-emptively punishing herself?
Tumblr media
So, out in the hall, Angela asks Gohan if he has a girlfriend, and when he doesn’t answer right away, she gets all upset.   Then she threatens to tell everyone his secret unless he takes her on a date, so Gohan agrees.     Angela tells him to meet her in town tomorrow on Sunday.   Wait, so they’re in school on a Saturday?    That’s bullshit.  Also, why does Gohan have to hold pails of water but Angela doesn’t?
Tumblr media
Gohan tries to deal with this properly, so first thing’s first, he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do on a date.    So he asks his mom, who probably isn’t the best person to go to for advice on this, but who else can he ask?   Piccolo?  Krillin?  Yamcha?   These guys all have no business giving out advice.
Tumblr media
Chi-Chi fondly recalls the time she and Goku hung out alone while Emperor Pilaf and Colonel Silver fought over a Dragon Ball.   I want to say this was Dragon Ball Episode 31?   This isn’t a flashback to that episode, though, since this is all-new footage, so I sort of wonder if Chi-Chi might not be embellishing things somewhat.    In any case, she tells Goku they’re on a date, and when Goku doesn’t know what that is, she tells him that it’s the most fun thing a boy and girl can do together, so he naturally assumes she wants to spar with him.
Tumblr media
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww...
Tumblr media
So yeah, none of that helped Gohan at all, so he just asks Angela not to reveal his secret, and she tells him to take her to see a movie.
Tumblr media
Here’s a nice shot of the Satan City Theater.   I guesss this movie is about a volcano?   Anyway, Gohan falls asleep in the middle of it, and Angela gets upset and thinks he doesn’t want to spend time with her.   Well, duh.    You’re blackmailing him, remember?
Tumblr media
Gohan follows her outside and tries to patch things up, and she immediately cheers up and tells him to take her to a cafe.
Tumblr media
There, she instructs him to ask her how many sugars she wants in her coffee, so he can add them for her.
So, I get the sense that Angela really wants to have a paint-by-numbers romance, hitting specific moments that she’s seen in books and TV shows.    But she needs a boy to actually execute all of these spots, so she strongarmed Gohan into doing all of these things, but it’s never going to feel quite like it did when it happened on TV, because it’s not spontaneous.   Right now, she’s only enjoying this because she’s experiencing it firsthand, but it’s a hollow fantasy.
I say this because I’ve seen men over the years pining for similar fantasies.    Well, maybe not similar, but the same formulaic approach.   Like, “I gotta get me a girl who will dress up in a red wig and a yellow dress and a white vest and ask me to tell her how many sugars she wants in her coffee, so we can re-enact this episode of DBZ.    Yeah, that’s hot.”  Or whatever your thing is.    The reality is that even if you found someone to humor such a specific request, it would never quite hold up in real life.    You can’t manufacture this stuff.
Maybe that was the point of Chi-Chi’s story earlier.  It was romantic for her because it actually happened, and it wasn’t just Goku doing whatever she wanted him to do.   They were both being themselves, and they hit it off, and that’s why she thinks so fondly about that time he punched a tree.   Krillin’s first date with 18 was probably nothing at all like he had in mind, but he probably loved it because it ended up cementing his relationship with the love of his life.   And I’m sure he would have loved to take 18 to a movie and a cafe, but not as an end unto themselves.    You can scoop your own sugar, and if you wait your whole life for someone else to do it for you, you might miss out on something better.    I’m not sure where I’m going with this analogy.    I take my coffee black, so maybe I should move on.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Angela wants thirteen sugars in her coffee because of course she does.
Tumblr media
Over coffee, Gohan tries to get some sort of reassurance that she won’t tell anyone his secret, but that’s the furthest thing from her mind.   She mentions that “it” is cute, but that’s about all she has to say about it.
Tumblr media
Then there’s a fire at Satan Tower.    Well, I think this was supposed to be Satan Tower, because that’s where they were going to go next, but maye they saw this building on fire while they were on their way.
So, little bit of trivia here, this episode didn’t air on Cartoon Network because it was originally scheduled for September 19, 2001, eight days after the 9/11 attacks.   That sort of flew under my radar at the time, because I had already seen this episode on VHS a couple of months earlier, but when I heard about it I wasn’t sure what to make of it.   Were they just not going to show any TV program that featured a tall building on fire?   I think for a little while, that’s what the networks did.   At the time, no one really knew what was appropriate and what wasn’t.    I have to admit, seeing this screencap does remind me a lot of the footage of the towers burning.   But at the time, that was a very distinctive image, and no cartoon of an unrelated incident could compare.
Anyway, the episode finally aired on Toonami about eight weeks later, but this is a filler ep, so it’s not like anyone really needed this one to keep up with the story.
Tumblr media
So when Gohan and Angela find this, they hear that there’s people trapped on the roof, and Gohan realizes that he needs to change into Saiyaman and save them.
Tumblr media
But Videl’s already on the scene.    Her aircraft can’t land because of the thermal updrafts, so she jumps down to the roof herself and tries to open a valve on a water tank, figuring that flooding the roof will at least buy time for a rescue.    There’s a whole sequence where she consults a team of computer guys about it, and this dude checks the building’s schematics and runs a simultation to see what good the water will do.    But Videl’s not strong enough to open the valve, and her fingerless gloves don’t help matters.    They’re stylish, but not much protection against the hot metal.
Tumblr media
But then Gohan rushes in, despite Angela’s protestations, and Saiyaman shows up to save Videl when the water tower falls over.    He punches a hole in it, which I guess does more than Videl had counted on?    Anyway, he saves all the people on the roof, including Videl.
Tumblr media
Afterward, Videl spots Gohan in the vicinity, and she wonders if that might mean something.   Remember, she still harbored suspicions that Gohan is the Golden Warrior, and this is the second time she’s seen him at the scene of a crisis.
Tumblr media
Then Angela finds them and assumes that Videl is Gohan’s girlfriend.   Uh-ohhhhh!
Tumblr media
Funny thing is, despite knowing Gohan’s secret, she seems to have no idea why he ran into a burning building a minute ago.   She thinks he was just trying to save Videl, or maybe she thinks they like to make out in burning buildings?  I dunno.
Tumblr media
Heartbroken, Angela tries to play her best card, and tells Videl Gohan’s secret.   Gohan’s horrified, but he can’t really do anything, so he just starts screaming, as if he can drown out the truth.   Then again, screaming usually works pretty well on this show, so I can’t fault him for falling back on the basics.
Tumblr media
But between breaths, Angela gets the secret out: Gohan wears teddy-bear underwear.   Wait, what?
Tumblr media
In perhaps the stupidest flashback ever, we see Angela wandering around after gym class, only to find Gohan pulling up his pants.    I guess he was changing out of his gym clothes?   Why would you do that with the door open?
Tumblr media
So that’s the secret Angela’s been holding over Gohan’s head this whole time.    So what about on the roof?   Didn’t she notice Gohan wearing the Great Saiyaman costume there?   No, she didn’t, because she didn’t have her contact lenses in at the time.    Womp-womp-waaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Tumblr media
Videl is not amused.    I’m pretty sure in the dub, Angela wonders what Gohan is talking about, so she asks him if he had his pants down on the roof too, and Videl tells him to keep his pants on, or else.
Tumblr media
Of course, Gohan could care less about how many girls see his sexy undies, so he just laughs the whole thing off and claims that his mother bought him the wrong kind by mistake.    Really?   That’s the best you can do?    She bought the wrong kind, and you just keep them in your rotation anyway?    My mom bought me this shitty tank-top looking thing when I was in seventh grade and I absolutely despised it, but she wouldn’t listen to me and bought it anyway, so I knew she’d probably try to make me wear it and I wanted no part of that, so I stuffed it in a box in my closet where she wouldn’t be able to find it.    Out of sight, out of mind, right?   Well it worked.    I still don’t know where that fucker went.    I probably threw it in the trash one day just to be safe.    That shirt sucked.   Not just because it looked stupid, but because my mom wasted money on it rather than just listen to me, the only person who was ever going to wear the thing.
Sorry, I went off on a tangent there.  That’s what this liveblogs are all about, though.    If you just wanted a dry recap of the action, you’d watch these yourself, or look it up on the wiki.   Point is, Gohan wouldn’t wear teddy bear underwear unless he wanted to.     He killed Perfect Cell.    He wears a vest.   He does what he wants.
Tumblr media
So Gohan’s secret is safe, but he still feels terrible about hurting Angela’s feelings, so the next day he goes to apologize to her, only to find that she’s moved on to some other boy, and she’s got a date with him next Sunday.   Badda-bump da-da-bump!

Odd numbered questions
Since you didn’t give me a character, I answered them all for Rhys. (This is really really long so every question after the first is under a read more.)
1. What does their bedroom look like?
Post Helios crashing, all of the Handsome Jack posters have been removed and torn up. I like to think that Rhys has his own room in the Helios remains camp so that he can visit Vaughn and the others whenever he wants to, and I think this room would actually be kinda bare, if only because of the lack of resources available to decorate with. If they’re able to find any paint maybe he’d paint it the Altas colors since he’s now the Atlas CEO, but other than that there’s not much there besides a bed and nightstand and a closet for his clothes. (Later down the line in my vision for post game story, he basically just moves into Vaughn’s room and that’s a bit more decorated.)
3. Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often?
Rhys is definitely Not the exercise type (despite Vaughn’s best effort to get his twig of a best friend/boyfriend to put on some muscle), but he’s at least taken to going on daily walks when he can either around the camp or outside of it for a bit. Keeps the fresh ideas flowing and at least keeps him on guard.
5. Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.)
It depends on his mental health most days honestly. For appearances alone if he’s got a day full of important CEO duties, he’ll always make the effort to get dressed up and look very presentable for the time that he’s at work. When he gets home tho, if it’s a bad mental health day, that all goes out the door when he steps foot in his room and can decompress. If he’s Really bad mentally, sometimes Vaughn has to step in and remind Rhys to do some things so he doesn’t fall into bad habits permanently.
7. Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time
I feel like Rhys is the type who would probably enjoy drawing in his spare time. He doesn’t get to do  it often since he’s a CEO with a lot of duties there and he likes hanging out with his friends a lot, but when he does get to, its more loose doodling and more often than not used as a stress relief. He might have some negative thoughts about wasting time when there’s more important things to do, but he also knows that sometimes he Has to separate himself from his work, both for his own mental health and because Vaughn or Fiona will Make Him take some time off if he won’t do it himself.
9. Makeup?
Considering I headcanon Rhys as trans, I’m gonna say that makeup isn’t really his thing. Though he has been known to wear just a bit of eyeliner from time to time when the mood strikes. (He sucks at applying it tho and asks Fiona to help him whenever he does wear it.)
11. Intellectual pursuits?
After pulling out all his cybernetics on his own and fucking up some stuff internally by doing so, Rhys started collecting as much reading material in any and all forms about cybernetics and how to build and maintain and install them as he could. He’s become a lot more knowledgeable about the topic since having to do so to save his own arm and eye, and he plans to use that knowledge to help out the people of Pandora later on in the future through the use of Atlas tech. (His own cybernetics still aren’t the best because he jury-rigged them in the beginning when he was kinda desperate and not at full mental capacity, and his fine motor control suffers because of this, but he’s constantly working on the tech to improve it. He’s no expert in the field, at least when it comes to self application, but he’s trying his best.)
13. Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general?
If he had to put a label on it, Rhys would probably say that he’s pansexual, leaning more towards men. In terms of what he thinks in general about orientations though? He really couldn’t give two shits. People are who they are and like who they like and he’s not one to judge for any of that. It’s honestly one of the furthest things from his mind a lot of the time.
15. Biggest and smallest short term goal?
(This one I actually don’t have an answer for, but when I think of one, I will post it.)
17. Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress
Rhys has two modes of dress: Fully suited kickass CEO, or oversized shirts with the sleeve possibly ripped off for his cybernetic arm with baggy sweatpants. He’s either at the top of his fashion game or he gives no two shits either way.
19. What do they think about before falling asleep at night?
Depends when you’re asking. Pre him and Vaughn getting together, probably about all the shit he regrets with Jack and Helios crashing and all the people he’s killed and horrible things he did in the name of his job on Hyperion. Post him and Vaughn getting together when they start sharing a room and sleeping in the same bed? He tries to focus more on the now, on being lucky that he’s still alive after Jack tried to kill him and that he still has his friends and that they’re here together.
21. Turn-ons? Turn-offs?
Honestly, people being nice to him and not calling him a dumbass is his major turn on. Turn offs is a longer list but the top of that list is people degrading him and only seeing him as a klutz and not someone they can take seriously.
23. How organized are they? How does this organization/disorganization manifest in their everyday life?
Rhys is chaotically organized, much to his friends and potential future employee’s dismay. I headcanon him as having ADHD, so some of it definitely comes from that. The other part though comes from the fact that he just has his own ways of doing things that don’t make sense to anyone except him (and sometimes Vaughn.) He’s never lost any important documents or the like, but he’s more prone to losing certain articles of clothing (except for his socks, he’s careful with those) and other more personal items. He can’t count the number of times he’s misplaced his stun baton when he really needed it.
25. How do they see themselves 5 years from today?
Married to Vaughn while being a successful CEO for Atlas and actually making decent strides at improving life on Pandora for All it’s inhabitants and basically doing the Opposite of what he would have been doing on Helios if he were still there.
27. What is their biggest regret?
He has a Lot of regrets that plague his conscious constantly for a long time, but plugging that goddamn ID Drive of Nakayama’s into his data port is one of the Biggest ones. So much shit wouldn’t have happened if he had never done that and hadn’t let Jack get deep into his systems.
29. Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?)
Rhys is the one who runs around screaming (most times) until someone gives him instructions on what to do. He does have times though if he’s able to be level headed enough that he can make a solid plan to solve the problem as well.
31. Most prized possession?
The ECHOeye implant where Jack’s AI is held captive. (if you had him keep it and not destroy it that is, which I did.) It’s not prized for the fact that it’s important to him or that he misses Jack or anything like that. It’s prized because he knows if He has the implant, no one else can get ahold of Jack but him. And keeping Jack in the implant means that he’s suffering alone in there by himself which Rhys feels is what he deserves. (He keeps the implant in a bio-encrypted lock deep down in his office’s vaults at Atlas. No one except him knows that it’s even stored there.)
33. Concept of home and family?
His friends are his family. Vaughn, Fiona, Sasha, LB, Gortys, heck even Athena and Janey and August, he considers them all his family to some degree, with Vaughn being the closest out of all of them. And as far as a home goes, that’s just wherever they all happen to be together in his mind.
35. What activities do they enjoy, but consider to be a waste of time?
As mentioned earlier, Rhys enjoys doodling at times but sometimes considers it a waste when he knows he has more important things he could be doing with his time.
37. Are they more analytical or more emotional in their decision-making?
Absolutely more emotional. He goes with whatever his heart tells him is right every single time, which doesn’t always have the best results.
39. What recharges them when they’re feeling drained?
Rhys used to play guitar a bit in college, but once he got to Hyperion that hobby died very quickly. Somehow, Fiona found out this fact (most likely through Vaughn since Rhys never talks about it) and gave Rhys a slightly used guitar she was able to pawn off of someone one day as a gift. She claims it was just to get him out of everyones hair but really, it was just her being nice. Rhys has since then been slowly learning how to play again and likes to pull it out and play by himself when he’s too low on energy to be social. (If he’s too drained for even that, then a nap will normally suffice for a recharge as well. Preferably one with Vaughn, but those are few and far between since he’s got people to look after.)
41. How misanthropic are they?
Rhys is normally a pretty social person and generally enjoys society, but at times, he does tend to withdraw from people and isolate himself after the Helios incident. It’s not for the fact of hating people or society in general, it’s more the fact that he spent so much time alone after defeating Jack and while rebuilding Atlas that sometimes, being around people is just too much and he needs some time alone. He gets better with this as the years go by, but in the beginning he’ll sometimes go two or three days alone before interacting with people again. (His friends worry the first few times this happens, especially Vaughn, but they come to understand his reasoning after he actually takes the time to explain his absences to them. Vaughn is sometimes allowed to see him during those times though because he’s Vaughn and he knows how to just be around Rhys naturally and do his own work without making Rhys talk or interact much.)
43.How far did they get in formal education? What are their views on formal education vs self-education?
It’s canon that Rhys went to college, but as far as actually finishing and what degrees he got, I’d say he got his bachelors and no further than that, unless he was doing his own independent studying on his own, which he might have done to push himself forward at Hyperion. Rhys is all for self education, he’s constantly doing that himself when it comes to running Atlas and learning what he needs to do to be a successful CEO there.
45. Superstitions or views on the occult?
Don’t think Rhys is much for superstitions or the occult. He doesn’t really Need to be when things like Vault Monsters exist in real life for him.
47. If they were to fall in love, who (or what) is their ideal?
Vaughn is definitely his ideal person. He compliments Rhys in a lot of different ways, they have a lot of history from being best friends for so long, and they get each other on a deeper level. Vaughn has always been important to Rhys throughout their whole journey from college to Hyperion to the now. And after seeing how Vaughn grew as a person during the time they were separated, he really came to appreciate him as he was and is. Vaughns is his best bro after all, and bros gotta stick together.
49. If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?
If he remembers to use his robotic arm to fight, then Rhys might actually stand a chance at least to not be knocked out during a fist fight. But if not, he’s extremely weak and will be beat to shit. He really has no style for physical fights other than “Throw my fist and see if it hurts them.”

The Handsome Boy Next Door
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kang Daniel/Reader Summary: You lived in a quiet apartment building until someone finally moved into the apartment next to yours.  Tags: Fluffy Comedy with a dash of angst, mentions of Jeon Wonwoo (SVT), reader is an otaku Word Count: 4.1K A/N: I’d been meaning to write this in full fic form but I don’t think I’ll have the time so I decided why not do a scenario post? This is the short version of what what I originally wanted to write but I figured it was good enough XD Hope you guys enjoy!
You moved to an apartment building in your 2nd year of college because traveling from your house back to your campus was a PAIN.
(You could have stayed in a dorm but you did not like having to deal with curfew and the noise level)
Most of your neighbors were elderly women who always questioned why you weren’t dating or married yet.
It almost made you wish you stayed in a dorm, but it helped you master the art avoiding confrontation.
You lived next to the only empty apartment in your building because its owner had apparently passed away there. No one wanted to rent an apartment that might be haunted.
The landlord had been trying to lease that room for AGES and you’d thought she’d given up. But one day, a year and half later, you heard noises from the apartment next door. You were lowkey freaking out because what if it was really haunted???
Then you looked out your window and saw a moving truck below. You stuck your head out into the hallway to see people moving furniture into the apartment next to yours.
You texted your landlord to ask if someone had moved in next door and she seemed happier than she’d been in a LONG time. She’d managed to find someone who was willing to move into the apartment and she made you promise not to mention it could be haunted when you met your new neighbor.
There was a bad taste in your mouth as you closed your phone. What if weird shit started happening? Did that mean you’d have to leave your new neighbor to fend for themselves?
In the end, you decided to make up for it by giving your new neighbor a nice welcoming present.
But what could you even give?
Well, you did have that extra limited edition Saitama figure, but who the heck gave a 150,000 won figure away as a welcoming gift to some stranger? Besides, you didn’t need your new neighbor to know that you were a hard core otaku.
You decided to give them two of the spare jars of kimchi your mom had given you on your last visit home. (She always gave you more food than you could ever eat alone.)
You were about to step out the door dressed in your sweatpants and oversized One Piece sweatshirt when you realized you were not appropriately dressed to greet anyone.
It took you nearly 45 minutes to make yourself look decent. Your brushed out your hair and wore a simple gray sweater and some jeans. You judged yourself for really trying this hard, but you also had to remind yourself that your neighbor probably did not need to know you didn’t have you life together.
You finally walked up to your neighbor's door and knocked. You stood around for a good thirty seconds and no one answered. You knocked again, and again no one answered. At that point, you leaned your ear against the door to try and hear if anyone was on the other side of that wall, but you heard nothing but silence.
Your new neighbor was not home. Great. Just. Great.
You decided to walk back into your house and just give the kimchi to them another time.
With your sour mood, you defaulted to sit out on your patio which was overcrowded with dead plants. It was a small space but it was big enough to hold a swinging chair. You sat completely drained of energy and started to sketch in your sketchbook.
You had been so focused on doodling that you didn’t notice there was a cat on your balcony until it landed straight on your sketchbook.
It meowed up at you and you nervously lifted a hand for it to know your scent and get used to you. The small cat start lapping at your fingers with the thick bristles of its tongue and you laughed at how it tickled.
“You lost, buddy?” you asked it, knowing it couldn’t respond. This cat was obviously lost, there was no other reason for it to be on your patio. You pet the cat’s head and ruffled its ears as it purred. You lifted it up and checked its collar. The name tag read “Rooney”.
When you flipped the tag over, you saw the owner’s name inscribed on the back. Hi! This is Kang Daniel, if you found my cat please call me!
You quickly dialed the number and waited.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Daniel-ssi, I found your cat.”
His tone immediately perked up from there. He kept on thanking you for a good two minutes before he actually asked you where you were. You gave him your apartment building’s address and he started to laugh.
“Is something funny?”
“No, no. I just moved there today. I guess Rooney isn’t used to the new place.”
“Oh, you’re my new neighbor then. I’m in apartment 101, right next to yours.”
“I’ll be right over, thank you so much for finding her.”
You had no chance to protest on him coming over to your door. You looked around and saw how messy your house was. There was no way you were letting him come inside. You cradled Rooney in one arm as you grabbed a paper bag and threw in the jars of kimchi you’d planned to give him.
By the time you were done, he was buzzing at you door.
You rushed to door and looked through the peep hole. You squeaked at the sight of your new neighbor.
He was hot. There was no other way to get that through. Like sure, there were a lot of good looking people out there, but this guy was one of the best looking boys you’d seen in a LONG time.
His soft looking pale brown hair and chiseled chin had you drooling, but you had to remind yourself to behave like a proper human being as your shaky hands opened the door.
“Rooney!” the boy shouted as he reached for his cat. Rooney quickly jumped out of your arms and into Daniel’s.
Dammit he was even more handsome face to face and you wanted to crawl into a hole and hide.
You waited until Daniel was done reconnecting with his cat before you greeted him. He bowed to you in apology as he hugged and petted Rooney. You could only smile at his concern over his cat, because it was really cute how much he cared.
You held out the paper bag full of the kimichi jars as you blocked the view to your apartment. “This is a welcoming gift. I wanted to give it to you earlier but you weren’t home.”
“Oh! Thank you so much!” he gave a shy laugh, showing off his eye smile as Rooney perched on his shoulder. “I wasn’t home because I was too busy looking for this kiddo.”
You nodded and smiled at him, understanding why he was out of breath over the phone now. He was probably searching as hard as he could for his cat.
Before you had to make up some excuse as to why he couldn’t come into your apartment, Daniel bid you goodbye, thanking you one more time. He quickly darted off to his apartment and you realized you hadn’t been breathing properly the whole time.
As you lay in bed thinking about your hot neighbor, you deliberated over how you wanted to deal with said hot neighbor. Like obviously you couldn’t treat him the same way as you treated the old granny neighbors you’d had for the past year and half. But how would you go about approaching him?
In the end, you decided you were going to try and be Daniel’s friend. Not just because he was cute, but because he seemed like a genuinely nice person.
The next day was a Sunday. You weren’t planning to really do much today, except you overhead Daniel say he was going to a friend’s place because he had some stuff he still had to pick up from there when you were having breakfast on your balcony.
You smiled on this opportunity because it meant you had a chance to spruce up your house without him having to see you lug a bunch of trash and dead plants out of it.
You weren’t always fast but when you needed to, you got shit done. In three hours, you’d cleared away all the junk from your apartment that you didn’t need. All the clothes were cleaned and folded. All the wrappers and empty cartons were thrown. All the plates, cups, and cutlery were washed and put away. All the character figures on your shelves were dusted. For once, your apartment looked pristine.
Now what you needed to do was go out and buy some new plants for your patio.
When you were getting dressed, you saw the drastic difference in the amount of sweat clothes you owned versus the normal clothes you owned.
You decided you might as well buy new nice clothes while you go plant shopping.
That night you hauled back half a wardrobe of cute clothes, some new makeup and skincare products, and three easy-to-care-for plants.
When you stared at the giant pile of things in your living room, it made you wonder why the hell you were doing all this. But also why it made you feel so good.
On Monday, you went to school wearing one of your new outfits. A blue chiffon blouse, black blazer, and short shorts. This was the first time in a long time you’d actually bothered to make yourself look good on a day that wasn’t an interview day and, of course, it raised eyebrows.
Your friends wondered what had gotten into you and you just told them it might just be time for a change as you walked the campus grounds with a bounce in your step.
Something, or rather someone caught your eye, and you immediately stopped. Daniel? He went to the same school as you? How had you not seen him in your three and half years going here?
You hesitated on whether or not you should try talking to your new neighbor, but you decided against it since he seemed to be having a deep conversation with a tall actor looking guy.
Then, you saw him again, except this time at the bus stop which would take you both back to your apartments.
You still weren’t going to be the first one to make contact, so you pretended to not notice him as you scrolled through your phone.
Daniel tapped you on the shoulder and started talking to you. It was basic small talk. Exchanging why you were there. Figuring out you both went to the same campus. What departments and majors both of you were in. After a while, there wasn’t really anything left to talk about and awkward silence filled the air as both of you waited for the bus to arrive.
You sat next to Daniel on the ride home because it would be weird to just sit apart after having a long conversation. But neither of you was speaking to the other.
You figured it would be a long ride home until your phone notified you that the chapter of the hottest manga out right now had just updated.
It was as if you were in your own world as you opened up the latest chapter and read the contents of the pages. Your foot tapped nervously as the ground and your face didn’t hide anything as you read through the chapter in horror.
The main villain had pulled out his biggest attack when the chapter ended. You had to restrain yourself from letting out and inhuman noise as you saw the last panel.
Daniel tapped your shoulder again and you suddenly remembered you were sitting next to your hot neighbor.
Great, you just had a serious face journey over a manga next to the neighbor you were trying to be friends with.
Except Daniel didn’t seem to care about the face journey, he asked if you were a fan of that manga.
You had to stop yourself from making a snide remark since Daniel didn’t really know you.
Were you a fan? This was only your life!
It hadn’t even been two days and you were already having to let go of your normal person image. But that didn’t matter, because you were in fangirl mode.
You told Daniel EVERYTHING and for some reason his eyes seemed to light up the more you blabbered on and on about plots and theories. You were even shushed by the other people on the bus when you and Daniel were laughing too loud.
It turned out that Daniel liked anime and manga a lot too - maybe not as much as you - but enough to hold up a decent conversation with you.
That was the main reason that the two of you started growing closer.
It started off as you two meeting up at your house and watching anime on your flatscreen. He once asked about the figures on your shelves and how you collected so many. When you told him, the process and how much it cost for you to get your hands on those figures, his eyes bugged out.
For some reason, your otaku nature didn’t bother him one bit and you found it highly amusing.
You could wear all your baggy clothes and anime T-shirts around Daniel and he didn’t seem the slightest bit put off.
You loved going over to his apartment to play with Rooney and Peter, who seemed to adopt you as their other human.
Either you guys were hanging out at your place or his.
The two of you had grown so comfortable around each other that you spent time together, even on campus.
On Wednesdays you two would get lunch together.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays you’d wait for him to finish dance practice before you two took the bus home.
He would tell you what he honestly thought of your paintings and you would tell him honestly what you thought of his dance routines.
Your lives had began to blur together, it was weird for you to think back to a time you didn’t know Daniel.
Your friends and his friends began to intermingle and you all went on a big outings together.
One time all of you went to a museum for someone’s birthday. It started off just fine but you all realized that it would be impossible to keep the giant group of you together. So everyone broke off into pairs.
You and Daniel were like a default pairing at this point. The two of you broke off away from the rest and roamed the museum by yourselves.
Daniel had gone to the restroom at one point so you waited for him by a fossil display. You were scanning the crowd randomly, looking around as you waited.
Your eyes came across someone you’d rather not see and your heart stopped.
Jeon Wonwoo had been your crush for the first year and a half for college. You two were in a lot of the same classes and somehow always sat next to one another. Then fate pushed it even further and paired the two of you up for a project. You fumbled your way through, hoping it might lead somewhere more, but Jeon Wonwoo had always brushed you off. Even when you tried everything to hold up a decent conversation.
You liked him so much it had made you jaded towards liking other people.
It almost made you laugh because your feelings for the boy were so superficial and only ended up getting you hurt.
“What’s wrong?” Daniel asked when he got back from the restroom. He waved a hand in front of your eyes to break your stare.
“Nothing,” you lied as a crappy feeling washed over you.
Seeing Wonwoo again, despite the fact that you were over him, made you feel like shit. The whole rest of the day you were sort of silent and unresponsive as the rest of your friends had fun.
That night, as you as Daniel took a cab home, he took your hand and asked you again. “What’s wrong?”
You didn’t know how to bring it up to him.
You couldn’t say, Hey, I just saw the dude I’d been crushing on for over a year and it short of bums be me because what if we ended up like that.
“I’d rather not talk about it.”
After that, Daniel stopped asking. He let you snuggle up next to his arms and fall asleep as the the cab drove the two of you back to your apartments.
The next day Daniel showed up to your house early in the morning (at noon) with take out and a box of your favorite sweets.
“They told you didn’t they?” you asked, knowing your friends had probably texted Daniel to explain to him why you were acting this way.
“Why didn’t you just tell me you saw your ex?”
You wanted to scream. “He’s not my ex...He’s just…” you hesitated before realizing you should tell Daniel the truth. “He’s just someone I had a crush on for the longest time and it obviously didn’t end well.”
“Well, it sucks to to suck, he missed out on an amazing person.”
“You really think so?”
“Of course!”
“You’re the best, you know that?”
“Of course,” he answered, shooting you a cheeky rabbit smile.
You two spent that whole day together snuggled up under one of your big blankets, surrounded by soft pillows.
Rooney and Peter were running around somewhere under those sheets and you laughed at their antics.
It made you stop for a second and take in just how much of your apartment had been altered because of Daniel.
You’d gotten a litter box for Rooney and Peter. You stocked up your fridge with enough food for twelve people. You had random boxes of jellies lying around for Daniel. You’d even bought special pillows so the two of you could sit down in front of your TV and watch it properly.
What were you to Daniel? What was Daniel to you?
Were you two just good friends? Or was there possibly something more?
Part of you wanted an answer, but part of you was scared again.
You knew Daniel wouldn’t brush you off like Wonwoo had, but to think of you and Daniel not being as close as you were now? That made you legitimately scared.
If you told him you liked him, would it change all of this?
Your mind went through scenario after scenario before deciding to say nothing and stay friends with Daniel for as long as you could.
You regretted your decision.
Because people would never stop approaching you and Daniel asking if you two were dating. It hurt you to say no every time.
It was even worse when people flirted with Daniel and you had no legitimate reason to be mad.
Sometimes you ended up avoiding Daniel to keep your feelings in check and you knew you hurt his feelings when you did.
It went on like this for two months until you decided you couldn’t do this.
In keeping yourself from telling him you liked him, you did the one thing you were trying to avoid.
You had decided you were going to go to his apartment to tell him, when Daniel started banging on your door.
He had a bag of clothes throw in a duffle bag over his shoulder and Rooney and Peter in either of his hands. He looked terrified as he gave you big, sad puppy eyes.
“Going somewhere?” you questioned, hoping he wasn’t leaving town.
“Why did you tell me someone died in my apartment?” he whined, lamely pointing a finger at his door.
You were genuinely lost for a second. “Huh?”
Daniel looked like he was about to cry when he told you he’d overheard the lady who lived below him say the last tenant of his apartment had died in it.
“So, you’re leaving?” You gestured to the bag slung across his shoulder.
“No…I thought I could stay with you…”
So that’s why he was knocking so hard. “Get in here, you big baby,”
Daniel set his bags down over by the edge of the couch and you went to go prepare dinner for the two of you. 1
It seemed like just another normal moment when the two of you were together, but your nerves started to get the better of you as he watched how comfortably he sat on your sofa and scrolled through your TV.
When you set out the food, he came over as quickly and sat down at what had become His Seat™.
You made sure to give Peter and Rooney food as well before joining Daniel at the dining table.
“Why have you been avoiding me lately?” he asked, breaking the silence after shoving food into his face.
You set down your spoon, looking away from his eyes as you spoke. “I was actually meaning to talk to you about that…”
Daniel reached out a hand and placed it over yours. “You know you can tell me anything, right?”
You looked him in the eyes, hoping you didn’t look as scared as you felt. “I like you.”
“Huh?” he asked, seeming taken aback by your sudden confession.
You gulped at his reaction.“I like you, Kang Daniel,” you repeated. “Please don’t make me say it again.”
“That’s it?”
“What?” It was your turn to be thrown for a loop. Did he just say ‘That’s it?’ while you were laying your heart out?
“That’s all you had to say?”
“What do you mean that’s all I had to say?” Your voice rose as you got to your feet genuinely angry with Daniel for acting as if your confession was no big deal.
Daniel stood up and walked over to you. He licked his lips as if they were dry and looked down at you with a nervous smile.
“Well, I saw you change out the dead plants to fresh ones when I moved in. And you cleaned up your apartment too. So, I figured you probably liked me.”
“Oh my god.” You were mortified. So he HAD noticed all that.
He held up his hands as he spoke, “It’s okay! It’s not like my apartment is any better.”
“Shut up, Daniel!” You choked out as you were trying not to die of embarrassment.
“If it’s any consolation, I like you, too.” he whispered, pushing back a strand of your hair.
Your face was on fire as you glared and pouted up at him. How could he be so cute and so infuriating?
You tip-toed and kissed him to let out your anger.
There were no fireworks or sparks or anything of that sort.
Just a calmness that soothed all the tension that had been digging into you while Rooney and Peter darted and played between your ankles.
Bonus:
“Here,” you said as you handed him the 150,000 won Saitama you decided not to give him. “This was your original welcome present, but I didn’t want you to know I was an otaku. Now, Saitama can be like your guardian statue, warding off whatever ghost might linger.”
“No thanks, I think I’ll just stay here.” Daniel placed the box back into your hands.
You looked up at him slightly annoyed, “You’re going to have to go back to your apartment eventually.”
“But I don’t want to…,” he said as he shivered, giving you puppy eyes once again.
Daniel perked up when an idea popped into his head. “You know, we should just look for a bigger apartment! One we could share!”
You tried not to freak out over the fact that he’d suggested you two start living together. “You’re getting ahead of yourself. I literally just confessed to you, plus you haven’t even asked me to be your girlfriend.”
“I thought that was just implied.” He just shrugged and laughed. You rolled your eyes but you learned to accept his antics.
From that day on you two started dating for real, and just like Daniel wanted, you did look into bigger apartments- ones which had a very low chance of being haunted.

girls like dollies ch.1 (trixya) - lale
A/N: I hope you liked the prologue! This chapter actually includes dialogue and other characters, yay!
Part of what had made Trixie so nervous about starting at RuPaul’s was that, thanks to the last minute nature of her application, she’d started almost two weeks into the semester. It was a Thursday afternoon by the time she arrived, and the rest of the students were still in class. Miss Charles, the principal, was busy, so Trixie got to skip her first introduction with her in favor of a tour with Mr Matthews, who was apparently one of the drama teachers. He didn’t seem fazed by the fact that she was alone, and once she’d put her bags down by the wide staircase in the entrance hall he lead her down a corridor lined with classrooms.
“Oh, you are just going to love it here!” he assured her, a bounce to his step as they passed rows of lockers. Trixie peeked into each room they passed, wondering if she might spot Kim. The classes seemed small, with no more than ten or twelve girls dressed in identical uniforms. Trixie had her own uniform packed neatly in her suitcase, and she felt a little self-conscious as glanced down at her pink dress. She hadn’t thought about her outfit when she’d dressed earlier that morning, and now she kind of wished she’d changed into her uniform before she’d arrived.
“Don’t worry about your clothes. Classes only have twenty minutes left and some of the girls get changed as soon as they can, anyway,” Mr Matthews said, apparently sensing her unease. “Classes last until 2:30 every day, and then afternoon activities begin at 3. Dinner is at 6:30. Now, you’re part of the drama program, is that right? Ms Visage has been raving about your audition for weeks!”
Trixie blushed, surprised that she’d made such an impression. “Yeah. Have I missed much?” she asked, eager to make sure she wasn’t at a disadvantage from starting later in the semester.
“No, no, you’ll be fine. When classes are over, I’ll find one of the girls to take you up to the dorms and get you settled. Then you can go to your first drama session today,” he promised. They rounded a corner, passing a wide doorway to what looked like a library. The school was huge and impressive; it was everything Trixie had imagined it would be. Mr Matthews showed her around the rest of the school, chatting the whole time. She paid little attention to the sports facilities or the classrooms, eager to get to the theatre she’d gotten a glimpse of at her audition.
“These are the art studios. Now, you might be part of our wonderful drama program, but a lot of the girls like to take advantage of the art classes here even if they’re more focused on other areas!” Mr Matthews said, stopping in the doorway to a large room with floor to ceiling windows lining one wall. There were a dozen canvases scattered around the room, all covered with gorgeous landscapes or detailed portraits. But Trixie’s eyes were immediately drawn to one canvas in the corner. It was a mess of colours, dark red swirled with greens and browns and blues; the more Trixie looked at it, the more it fascinated her as she tried to decipher its meaning.
“Oh, that must be Miss Katya’s work. Mr Rice mentioned she was working on something…abstract,” Mr Matthews said, his gaze following Trixie’s.
“It’s beautiful,” Trixie said honestly. Mr Matthews looked at her in surprise, then chuckled.
“Well, to each their own,” he said, herding her back through the corridor towards the entrance hall. There were girls emerging from the classrooms around them now, and Mr Matthews headed straight for a willowy blonde girl. “Pearl!” he called out. The girl looked around in surprise, trying to pocket a pack of cigarettes.
“I was just, uh…going outside,” she offered lamely. Mr Matthews rolled his eyes, pointedly looking in the other direction.
“I didn’t see anything,” he said. “Pearl, this is Trixie, your new roommate. Can you show her where your room is and make sure she gets settled? I’ve told her she can go to drama class this afternoon,” he explained.
Pearl looked Trixie up and down. She was pretty, tall and slender with big eyes. Her expression came across as almost sleepy, though, and when she smiled it was endearingly goofy. “Alright,” she agreed. Her voice was low, with vocal fry off the chart. She was certainly interesting. Trixie put on her most winning smile.
“Thanks!” she said, dashing across the hall to gather her bags. Pearl followed her, and Trixie grabbed her guitar before Pearl could try to pick it up. She couldn’t handle it if it ended up getting dropped and damaged; god knows she could never afford to replace it. Pearl didn’t comment on her protectiveness, grabbing the handles of her suitcases instead and helping her to haul them up the stairs.
“The dorms are organized by class, so everyone in our grade is down this corridor. The bathrooms are down at the end – don’t try to shower between eight and nine unless you don’t mind cold water, that’s when everyone goes,” Pearl explained. Trixie nodded, looking at the doors around them. Each one had a whiteboard tacked onto it, some showing doodles and some simply telling her whose room it was. Most had two names scribbled across them, except for one which read, “Alaska, Detox and Roxxxy” in three distinct scrawls.
Pearl stopped outside a door halfway down the corridor, but before she could reach the handle it opened from the inside. There was a loud shrieking nose, and Trixie found herself being pulled into a fierce hug. “Kim!” she gasped, letting her duffel drop to the group and carefully putting her guitar by her feet before she wrapped her arms around Kim. Trixie was tall but Kim was still taller, as she had been the last time they’d seen each other; it was comforting that that small detail was still the same.
“I was just about to come find you! As soon as I got your letter I persuaded Ms Visage to let you room with us,” Kim told her excitedly, taking her hand and pulling her into the room.
“Wait, you’re my roommate?” Trixie said, feeling a huge smile spread across her face.
“Pearl helped me rearrange. There’s more than enough space for three in here,” Kim said. Sure enough, the room was bright and spacious, with large windows and a bed lined up against each remaining wall. Two were surrounded by posters and decorations, with bright, patterned bedspreads and blankets. The third was a blank slate, all for Trixie.
“This is amazing,” Trixie said in awe. She grabbed Kim for another hug, suddenly overwhelmed by everything. Kim laughed, squeezing her. Trixie pulled back when Pearl dropped her suitcases by her bed, dashing back to grab her duffel and guitar. “I don’t really have anything to decorate with,” she realized aloud, looking mournfully down at her suitcases. She had her brand new uniform and all of the toiletries she’d bought with the money her social worker had given her, but other than that she only had the contents of her hastily packed duffel.
“I have the perfect thing for you!” Kim said proudly, opening her wardrobe and producing a stack of pink fabric with a flourish. It was exactly what Trixie would have picked for herself: pastel pink bedsheets with white, heart-covered pillow cases. Trixie couldn’t help but let out a squeal of joy, stripping the plain white covers off her bed.
“It already feels more like home,” she said when she was done, stepping back and admiring her newly-pink corner of the room.
“I’m so glad you’re here! I thought your mom was against it,” Kim said. Trixie shifted uncomfortably. She’d been feeling so great about being here, and she didn’t want to bring the mood down by going into everything that had happened with Kim. Besides, Pearl seemed nice but she’d only just met her. Trixie wasn’t going to tell her her life story.
“I can be very persuasive,” she said, going to her suitcases so she could unpack her things. “Should I get changed before Drama?” she asked, trying to change the subject.
“Yeah, that dress doesn’t look too practical,” Kim replied. Pearl had curled up on the low seat by the windows, a cigarette dangling from one hand as she blew smoke out into the fresh air. “Pearl and I have art, but we’ll take you to dinner after,” Kim said. She’d stripped out of her sweater and blouse and was rummaging in her dresser for something to wear. Trixie was surprised – Kim had always been self-conscious when they were in school together, but apparently two years of boarding school had drummed that right out of her. Trixie quickly realized why when she looked around for any privacy to change and found none.
Trixie didn’t mind her body, but she was never going to be the wispy model that Pearl was. She was built more like Kim, tall and a little chubby. She had a nice waist and she liked her big boobs, but she sometimes felt self-conscious of her thick thighs and ass. She changed quickly, glancing into the small mirror hung above the desk next to her bed and silently thanking her make up setting spray for doing its job so well.
Just as Trixie and Kim finished changing, there was a knock on the door. “Come in,” Pearl drawled, tucking her cigarette behind her back as they waited to see who it was. A girl with pale, almost grey hair, poked her head around the door.
“We wanted to meet your new roommate!” she said, a smile crossing her face as she stepped inside, followed by a blonde girl with some of the most stunning makeup Trixie had ever seen.
“Trixie, this is Max and Fame. They’re in the room opposite,” Kim explained. Trixie found herself being swept into a hug by the second girl, who then leaned back and looked closely at Trixie’s face.
“Your makeup! I’ve never seen a contour like this, it’s wonderful” she said, voice full of admiration. Trixie blushed, surprised that someone with such a beautiful look would compliment her makeup. She loved painting her face in such a striking way, but she was always more likely to get curious questions than genuine praise.
“Fame, personal space,” the other girl, who had to be Max, chided gently, pulling Fame a step back with a hand to her upper arm.
“Are you joining the art program?” Fame pressed, still fixated on Trixie’s makeup.
“No, Drama,” she replied.
“Oh, wonderful! It’ll be nice to have someone new in the group,” Max said, sounding sincere. There was a slight affectation to her voice, but it wasn’t unpleasant. “I can take you to the theatre.”
Kim picked up her phone to check the time. “Trixie, we’ll meet you back here before dinner, okay?” she said. Trixie just nodded, feeling a little overwhelmed by the flurry of new people and new places. She carefully pushed the feeling down, determined to go with it and make a good first impression.
“Is this your first time at boarding school?” Max asked as they walked towards the theatre. Kim, Pearl and Fame had peeled off in a different direction towards the art studios.
“Yeah. It’s kind of…”
“Overwhelming?” Max suggested kindly. Trixie gave her a grateful smile, nodding. “Don’t worry, most of us felt like that when we got here. Some of the girls have been going away to school forever, but not many. You’ll settle in soon enough,” Max promised. She had a warm, soothing demeanor, and Trixie already felt a little more relaxed.
That relaxation slipped away when they entered the theatre. There were a dozen other girls there, gathered in small groups and chatting animatedly. Trixie immediately felt intimidated; these girls all seemed so confident. Trixie loved performing, and she’d always been the most talented in her drama classes back at home. Now she was surrounded by girls who were all, presumably, as passionate about performing as she was, and potentially more talented.
Max led her over to a group of three girls. “Girls, this is Trixie,” she said, while Trixie adopted a bright smile. “Trixie, this is Jinkx, Ginger and Alaska.”
“You’re Kim’s friend, right?” the girl with bright red hair said. She had a friendly face, and a slightly crooked smile.
“We went to high school together for a year back home,” Trixie replied.
“She’s crazy talented,” the tall girl with piles of blonde hair said. Her voice was low and she dragged out each word to the point that Trixie wondered if she did it on purpose. “You guys kind of do your makeup the same. I like it,” she told Trixie.
“Thanks,” Trixie said. She’d barely been at RuPaul’s for an hour and two people had already complimented her make up. Normally people didn’t know what to think of it, but it felt like a good omen that the other girls were nice about it. “Kim’s way better than I am, though. I mean, she looks like an actual person.” That drew a laugh out of all four girls, and Trixie laughed along a little giddily. She was doing okay so far, she thought. The girls seemed nice and she didn’t think she’d made a terrible first impression.
“Oh, I see why she likes you!”  the third girl said, her laugh a little wheezing. She was much shorter than the rest of them, with neatly styled ginger hair.
“Girls, simmer down,” a voice announced from behind them. The drama teacher swept into the room, and Trixie immediately recognized her from her audition. She was a striking woman with dark, almost black hair, dressed in a form fitting dress and stiletto heels. She glanced around the room, a smile crossing her face when she spotted Trixie. “Miss Mattel! I hope the girls are helping you settle in,” Ms Visage said, giving Max an approving nod as she took in the small group of girls surrounding Trixie.
“They are,” Trixie assured her.
“Good! Then let’s get to business,” she said, clapping her hands.
Trixie had been worried that her first drama class would be terrible, that everyone else would be so talented and polished. Everyone was talented, and a lot of them seemed a lot more polished than she was, but she loved every second of it. She’d never experienced a chance to perform with people who loved it as much as she did, and she already felt like it was pushing her to be better. It was exhilarating, and even though she felt exhausted by the end of the class she was beaming from ear to ear.
“Trixie,” Ms Visage said, calling her over. “You kept up really well today! I’m so glad you’ve joined us,” she told her warmly. “I see Max is looking after you. Did you get your schedule?”
“No,” Trixie said, quickly thinking back over her afternoon. “I don’t think anyone told me where to get it.”
“I imagine one of the girls has it. Perhaps one of your roommates?” Miss Visage suggested.
“Maybe,” Trixie said, nodding. “I’ll ask Kim when I get back up to my room.”
“Oh, I know who has it. Mr Kressley gave it to Katya, you guys have a bunch of classes together,” Alaska chimed in from where some of the girls were waiting for Trixie by the door.
“He gave it to Katya?” Ms Visage said, looking surprised and slightly horrified. “Well, you can get someone to print out a new version if you need to, don’t worry.”
“It’s fine, I’m sure Katya hasn’t eaten it,” Ginger said, before letting out a huff of laughter. Yet! Trixie, come on. Katya’s my roommate, we can go get it from her now.”
“See you tomorrow, girls,” Ms Visage said, gathering her things as Ginger led them out of the theatre.
“What did you think of your first class?” Jinkx asked. She’d surprised Trixie, coming across so quiet at first before proving herself to be an absolutely hysterical actress. There hadn’t been a single girl who was bad, which she supposed made sense. It was intimidating, but Trixie had always been driven. Now, with the thought in the back of her mind that she had nothing to go home to, she was even more determined to make something of herself.
“It was great! I can’t believe we get that much practice every day,” Trixie said.
“Just wait until we start getting ready for a show. Then we’re rehearsing all evening, and the weekend, it never ends,” Ginger pointed out. It sounded like heaven to Trixie. She couldn’t wait until they could start rehearsing something properly and she could sink her teeth into a part – she wanted to prove to herself, and to everyone else, that she deserved to be there.
They reached their corridor of the dorms, and Ginger led them right down to the end of the hallway. “I hope you’re not naked!” she called out as she grabbed the door handle.
“As if you’d be that lucky!” a voice with a strong accent replied. The door swung open, revealing a girl in the middle of a cluttered room. She was bent over backwards, hands on the floor. She grinned at Ginger, and even upside down Trixie could tell she had the most stunning smile of gleaming white teeth. Her tangled blonde hair formed a messy halo around her head, and Trixie could see firm, shapely thighs where her skirt had ridden up.
“Trixie, this is Katya. You’re unfortunate enough to be sharing most of your classes with her,” Ginger said. The girl pushed herself up, effortless flipping her legs over her head and landing lightly on her feet.
“Hello!” she said, that same big grin on her face as she looked Trixie up and down. Trixie could feel her whole face flush. She was easily the most beautiful girl she’d ever seen in her life, and Trixie was totally, utterly fucked.
