Xingqiu would pick up on how you write an unfamiliar word called “Fan-fictions”. It has some Japanese words such as “Yandere” and “Tsundere”. He listened further into your works, and goodness, he has never felt so called out in his entire life when you specifically explained what Yanderes are. If you liked writing about Yanderes… You wouldn’t mind him being one for you, would you?

Childe would laugh his ass off whenever he hears you talking constantly to yourself, pretending as if you’re responding to them. But this makes him think you’re trying to communicate with him and Teyvat, makes his heart sore so much. You’re so sweet and acknowledging everyone, specifically him. ♡

Characters such as Pantalone and Baizhu have a realization you love spending Primogems on wishes, and always wasting them. So what do they do? Mischievously somehow gain Primogems for you, which you didn’t complain about at all.

People also have heard about your hatred towards Albert for being a creepy stalker. Now, this made Mondstadt furious at Albert. Not only does he stalk poor Barbara, he even dared to boldly disappoint you. (Barbatos killed him ehe)

Barbara has never felt so loved this much, she wants to bawl her eyes out — to show how much she loves and adores you.

Characters like Razor and Raiden Ei have come to realization you love sleeping around so much, they’ve gotten to know you sleep in work from time to time whenever it’s break. They take this advantage to make a setup room for you, where either of them can hold you in their arms and cuddle as they sleep against you.

Beidou, Lisa and Yae Miko would often see that you especially get easily injured. I’m not saying they’re the only ones terrified— trust me, many people in Teyvat are going to kill whoever hurt you,,, but they are the ones who ends up hearing about your condition. They’re so worried when they find out you don’t scream in pain, nor do you care about it because you’ve always been clumsy since childhood. They’re so worried, they might have a heart attack someday.

The Adeptus’ pick on the fact you like listening to “8-bit” version of music… It sounds hard to play, but they can’t deny you did have taste in music. Makes the guy from Lantern lite quest more inretested with you, and wishes to know you more! Or more so… Perhaps Enjou would take interest in this.~ He’s just as silly as you, why not?

Dainsleif notices how you stare at his character with adoration and love his design oh so much, that he also knows you love drawing, just like Albedo. Hearing this, Albedo loves you to death, like… Literally.

Aether hearing you’re also unstoppable that even Unknown God can’t stop you? Goodness this boy is falling in a deep rabbit hole for falling for you~!

Paimon sees you as a mother/father figure too honestly… Paimon relates to you so much about food, and always gets so happy when you agreed by getting food. Despite your tired expression, she just wants to cry because you did not once call her an “Emergency food”.

How about your complex theories? Tighnari and Al-haitham will have a whole set of a store with written details about your theories. You did die when Teyvat was made, so makes sense why you didn’t know everything. (…. You ate popcorn and watched your show as Archon war was a thing.) Every theories, is about very interesting things.

Snezhnaya and Tsaritsa would be so happy when they find out your world was filled with snow (to those who live in a snowy weather like me), and would flex it off to other nations like cocky little bastards. They see this as a blessing, and would try getting to know your culture by just the fact you and them have snow. That would mean you wouldn’t be cold in their place, right?

How about Fontaine being in horror when they find about your Creepypasta and FnaF books? They’ll keep themselves aware of the woods and will isolate any innocent beings from anywhere that involves woods and trees. Jeff the killer and Jeffrey C. Hodek (canon Jeff) definitely traumatized numerous of the people in Fontaine, considering their skins got burned a lot.

Yelan being also surprised she and other rich people in Teyvat, are in fact not the richest people in their own world after learning that… Moras aren’t actually real money? I can see Mona laughing at their misery, even though she’s sad she doesn’t exist literally in your world. How the fuck is she supposed to kiss hug you huh?

Venti and Nahida being so drawn to your morning voice, hearing you cursing as they didn’t know what the meanings behind those languages meant. Nahida would stare at your face in awe, listening to your stories as Venti would too, making a song about it probably— only for it to go downfall when they realize you occasionally hurt yourself in work. They’re horrified. YOU FELL OFF THE STAIRS??! They’re gonna faint.

Cyno who is in love with a heated face when he learns you love jokes, hearing you making a dark humor that just has him down bad for you— and ends up laughing. Your dark humor never goes too far, and he just loves it that you can accept his jokes. He is definitely going to be very loyal towards you…

Imagine Scaramouche/Wanderer lovingly gazing at your side view as you try to do makeup real quickly before playing your game. It didn’t matter. ofc, relationships aren't always perfect and especially when dealing with rin, someone who has quite a fair bit of trauma from being abandoned and left behind, it only worsens the tension.

communication is so important. rin has a tendency to catastrophize a lot so please, put your pride aside and talk to him! reassure him! spend some time with him! that's how post-arguments usually go.

this routine is a delicate one and it took months of putting aside your immaturity in order to grow together. especially rin who is so full of pride, but when he realised that his stubbornness wasn't winning him anything, he shattered his hardened perception of self and let you in.

around 15 minutes in or so, you're too engrossed in the movie to hear rin's quiet shuffling, and how he's now crossed the distance to sit next to you. his hand comes up to your shoulder to get your attention and when he has it, rin's quick to manoeuvre you so that you were now lying down on the couch.

he then plops down, wrapping his arms around you and resting his head on your chest.

"i'm sorry," whispers the striker. such simple words with such heavy meaning, especially coming from him.

you know he wants to say more, but you know better than he can't get it out, so, you begin threading your fingers through his hair, just how he likes it. rin softens completely against you.

"it's okay," you reassure.

"you're too good for me."

the next morning there's a bouquet of flowers and dessert from your favourite bakery on the kitchen counter.

rin wakes up at a reasonable hour. he likes to start off his days between 8 to 9 am, with 9-10 hours of sleep.

your sleep cycle has been synced with his because he hates sleeping without you beside him.

unless you have a good reason to push back sleep, he will not stand for it. stop depriving yourself of sleep and give your body the rest it deserves!!!!!

has a set night routine with you.

also i'm sorry but rin loves making out + neck and hand kisses are his favourite to give to you + he loves receiving temple and lip kisses.

goes to parties and clubs but very reluctantly. he doesn't like to drink, especially during soccer season, so there's not a lot of joy he can find in going out, except when he gets to eye you up and down all night and have fun with you AYEEEE 🕺😩

The following is a non-comprehensive list of some facts & stories about Justin that I find poignant and contribute to why I think he's a great person:

He's got a dry, sarcastic sense of humour. One of my favourite Justin quips came during a post-practice presser. Interviewer: "How is Zion fitting into your Offense?" Justin: "...hopefully at Right Guard".

Honorable mention: that time a reporter asked Justin during a presser if he lifts weights and Justin replied "Does it not look like it?" after a hilariously awkward silence. 😂

He seems to love and care for animals. I love the story of him rescuing two kittens whilst at Oregon and nursing them back to health before rehoming them. He did that all whilst seemingly juggling his academics and football which I think is pretty darn incredible and shows his nurturing side.

Also, according to his Mum, Holly, as a kid Justin would try to bring various animals home as pets. I just find it super adorable to imagine a little Justin eagerly presenting some creature to his Mum asking if he can keep it, promising to take care of it. This is even more cute to me knowing how he rescued those kittens.

He cares deeply for his family and seems very family-oriented. I absolutely love that during a PAC-12 Media Day interview where he was asked about some of the things he wanted in life, the first thing he said was "get married, be a great father, take care of my family". No mention of wealth or any materialistic things - only love and relationships.

He puts his shopping trolley back, which is the ultimate human goodness litmus test. I also find it hilarious that he straight up made Gabe his son by scolding him and telling him to go get his trolley and put it back after seeing Gabe try to abandon it in the car park. Justin just appreciates when things are in order and people do the right thing, as do I.

Also see that bit of Justin's mic'd up video where he calls out Cortez Broughton for his shitty parking lmaooo.

The fact that he moans softly after every throw and you all know damn well why I love that 👀.

He has an eclectic taste in music but favours Classic Rock which is due to his Dad's influence. I love this bc I too have a soft spot for Classic Rock bc of my Dad. Basically what I'm saying is that we're soulmates.

The fact that he's a literal millionaire and still thinks that Whole Foods is too expensive 🫰

Also that time Justin said fuck it to getting a professional haircut during his rookie year bc he deemed that "too expensive" too. Someone take this man to an ATM and show him his account balance please!

His penchant for movie quotes. I relate to this seeing as my entire sense of humour consists of pop culture references and silly movie quotes. I grew up with 3 brothers, can you tell?

He loves fishing. I love fishing. In fact, I spent my entire childhood in waders fishing Scottish rivers with my dad. I'm also dating a man whose father runs a successful fishing tackle business so you could say that I'm a bit obsessed.

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them? Lmao please don't ask me this question, because I have zero musical taste--and I don't mean I have bad musical taste, I mean I have no taste whatsoever, I barely listen to music, and I have no funny suggestions! (Mostly because I don't care for most of the ~jokes~ about his physical body.) 16. What's your least favorite ship for this character? Fandom has made it extremely hard to like a lot of other Dick ships because literally half the fandom can't stop tearing down Dick/Babs to build up their ship, which means there's nothing there for me to like, all it does is make me think there's not much there, if the only content to come up with is ranting about another ship. Nobody's obligated to like Dick/Babs, nobody's even obligated to not rant about it, I know where my scroll button is, but also all it does is push me further away from the ship that was supposedly being sold in that post, because it seems like an unfun place to be. But my actual least favorite ship for Dick is probably Bruce/Dick because it's so close to what I want out of that relationship, except also a thousand miles away from it! Honestly, one of my oldest friends is a Bruce/Dick shipper and the overlap we have of views on the characters is probably like 85%, we just diverge on how that plays out and we both feel extremely strongly about how we dislike the other path, but that we respect the other person being on it. We both are really into the fucked up entanglement of the characters, the mirroring aspect they have of each other, the belief that the other is the pure version of who they're meant to be, the frustration of how much they love the other while also being mad at them for the distance between them, the co-dependent disaster relationship, etc. All of that is the same for both of us, we just diverge on the context for it. Which is fine in our friendship, we meet in the middle, but there have been times when I feel like the ship would be so delicious for me, because it would tunnel vision in on those aspects I like, but the thought of them so much as even smooching makes me look like I bit into a lemon. How dare fandom almost give me what I want and then take it away from me!!!! Like, I don't actually care that it exists as a ship, fiction is not in a 1:1 relationship with reality and I think a lot of us get blinded by how modern comics go hard on the father & son aspect, which I am into and think is fair to evolve them into, but that wasn't always true and it's not like Bruce/Dick came out of nowhere. the show has established how much ted loves and misses kansas from day one sorry you're too stubborn to accept it

lol not gonna deny the stubbornness, but to me it really didn't feel like they show did enough to establish ted missing and longing for kansas?

like qualitatively what did they show from him as a character about his missing kansas itself? his tshirt collection, peanut butter and bbq sauce, mentioning the state flower? bitching about local stuff? like um ok?

this might just be coming from my own experiences as a 15-year emigrant, but like... i long for bagels, i really do. it's one of the greatest tragedies of my life that i no longer fly back to the states through new york and getting real bagels is now a long and miserable planned trek. i genuinely can taste in my mouth rn a toasted sesame bagel with a schmear of veggie cream cheese from bagel boss on merrick road my god i would do crimes. don't even get me started on real deli pickles gOD all pickles here are sweet it's so deeply wrong. (and btw our state flower is the rose very sexy). don't wanna move back tho.

like...idk that's just part of the emigrant experience? like idk if they intended all of that to signal a deep and tragic desperation to go back to the wide open skies of kansas but that kind of just felt like standard emigrant behavior to me (lmao i just realised my desktop bg is literally ny street scenes too), esp bc at least one of the writers has had that experience themselves? they needed to really give ted something more to get me to believe that he's somehow got the kansas soil in his bones and would be incomplete without it.

and imo things that and like the wizard of oz pinball machine only work as symbolic emphasis if the character work has been done to give them something to emphasize? as it stands, it feels like a lot of floating symbols were thrown around instead of actual character work, attempting to cheaply borrow meaning from elsewhere to make ted's supposed homesick longing feel real.

and tbh that kind of felt like his relationship with henry too? we got the symbol of the concept of a traditional father/son relationship, we got the symbol of the legos, we got the symbol of cat stevens father and son demanding our heartstrings be pulled... but what material things were those symbols emphasizing? how much time was given to showing ted and henry's actual relationship? like even in the episode this season when henry was literally present, ted p much ignored him in favor of stalking michelle! they didn't have one-on-one conversations except for ted trying to pump him for info about dr jake??? what are we supposed to do with that?? feel like everything's healthy and cool and great for them esp isolated in kansas?

it's like a bunch of floating signifiers that we're supposed to take as substitute for actual story. here's some barbecue sauce can't you just taste the longing? listen to stevens's music - that's a relationship, right?

empty symbols just aren't good enough for me, especially when there are plenty of relationships between people and places on this show that aren't just froth with no filling.

When Eren had arrived back at the family home, he wasn’t sure what he was going to expect. In fact, he wasn’t expecting anything but it’s when he entered the abode with absolute chaos ensuing, he was perplexed.

As soon as Eren opened the door, Carla crossed the hallway with her phone in hand, the usual crackle of a conference call sounding as she seemed to be complaining to her friends back home and in distress. Which, wasn’t an unusual sight, but it’s when she spotted Eren in the doorway and pointed at him with a pained expression, that he was confused.

“Eren! I want to see my Grandchild! You can’t keep him from me!”

Eren didn’t even have time to react. On impulse, Grisha somehow came out from the other room, his face also in mild distress.

“Carla, not now. We said we’d do this as a family.” He soothingly said to her, although soon after, threw Eren a dirty look.

Not knowing how to react, Eren only shrugged at his father, mouthing a ‘what did I do?!’ but he got no answer. Grisha only ushered Carla into the living room and slammed the door after him.

Which was quite surprising because Eren didn’t even know that the living room door could shut. That shit was always open.

Heading into the direction of the kitchen, Eren pursued where most of the noise was coming from, seeing as loud music was being played in there — something that would never usually happen concerning Carla absolutely hated too much noise after a certain time.

There he found Zeke absolutely within his element.

“I literally left for like ten minutes to go get a parcel, what the fuck is going on with Ma and Dad?!” Eren says as he places his keys on top of the table.

Turning round in shock, Zeke smiled widely as he welcomed Eren into the kitchen.

“Oh— There he is! Father of the year! You didn’t make the cut for Son of the Year though! That shit goes to MEEEEE!”

The blonde male hollered upwards before sauntering over towards the fridge to take out two bottle of beers, sloshing both of them open.

“The fuck, Zeke?” Eren said with a short laugh. He couldn’t find it in him to be mad at his brother. He didn’t understand what he was talking about but at least he didn’t seem hostile.

As the blonde sat on top of the countertop, something he wouldn’t dare do unless he was Son of the Year, Zeke gestured his head in Eren’s direction.

“Don’t sweat it, Champ! But hey, talk me through it.” Zeke hands him one of the beers. “Of all names in the entire world, why would you name him Timothy?”

Taking the bottle and instantly swigging from it, Eren mundanely shrugged as he waited for his drink to swallow down. He was always up to talk about his new bundle.

“Funny you say that actually because that’s exactly what Y/N said. But we agreed that we’d call the next kid after me.”

Zeke nodded in understanding.

“Right, right.”

Eren carried on.

“Timothy was honestly just within the spur of the moment. We really weren’t prepared for him or anything.”

With a reality show gasp, Zeke comically covered a hand over his mouth before uncovering it and lowering his voice.

“No way. Timothys an accident?!”

Rustled at Zeke’s use of harsh language, Eren lightly punches the side of his brother’s stomach.

“Yo, don’t call him that, he isn’t an accident! He’s a very beautiful blessing to us and has brought immense joy into our lives! Like okay, we didn’t expect him or plan for it but life surprises you like that.”

It’s the first time for me doing something like this because I often feel insecure about my character takes, or because I find it hard to answer questions on the spot. Also, I probably have more for all of these questions but this is just what comes to my mind now at 2 am.

I actually have a playlist of songs that remind me of him, or his relationship with various people from his life, that I shared only with a small number of people because I’m kind of self conscious about my music tastes >.>

But there are certain songs that I just cannot help but think of him when I listen.

“Numb” and “Crawling” by Linkin Park, the first makes me think of his relationship with his father figures, the second of the effects of his trauma.

“Hoax” by Taylor Swift is a song I cannot help but associate with his relationship with Atem. I do not really ship them but his relationship with him is in canon Seto’s deepest connection besides the one with Mokuba, and probably Gozaburo. I feel like that song represents very well Seto’s feelings of bitterness at Atem leaving.

As for the poem, it’s actually a rather dark one that I associate with him, Le Cœur supplicié by Arthur Rimbaud (tw for discussions of sa if anyone wants to look up how it has been often interpreted). To contextualize, my interpretation of the abuses Seto endured in his life is that they were very brutal. But I also associate it to the profound violation Seto experienced when Gozaburo stole his designs (or if you interpret it that he handed them over willingly in manga canon, how he would feel looking back at that).

late August, 1982

(Y/N) Hopper does her best to navigate her way through Hawkins High on her first day.

Being the new kid in town is never fun, but somehow having your dad be the chief of police makes it worse. Everyone ignores her for the first part of the day. That is until lunch comes around.

(Y/N) finds herself sitting alone in the corner of the lunch room when a pair of hands slam down on the table in front of her lunch tray.

"So, you're the new kid, huh?"

She looks up to see a curly headed boy now sitting across from her.

"Uh, yeah. Lucky guess?"

He cracks a grin and a chuckle falls from his lips. "And your dad is Jim Hopper."

"Wow, word really travels fast here."

What the entirety of the school does not know is that she did not grow up around her father. Her parents were never technically together when her mom got pregnant. Her mother decided it was best to not tell Jim. After a couple months of going through the pregnancy alone, she found a new man, David. He had graduated a couple of years before she and Jim did. The two of them found each other and decided to start a life together. By the time Jim found out she was pregnant, she and David had moved south to Tennessee where David had found a job somewhere around Nashville.

That mother is now a school teacher, teaching junior English at Hawkins High. After her parents both passed away, she and David, her now husband, decided that it was time to move back home. Little did they know about the secrets that lie within Hawkins.

The boy shrugs before replying, "It's a small town, everyone has to have something to pass the time."

The bell rings, signaling that lunch is now over and it's time to head to fourth period.

(Y/N) goes to thank the boy for actually talking to her, but he's already gone. All she knows is that he probably has good taste in music based solely on the Black Sabbath t-shirt she notices he was  wearing.

A few weeks pass before she finally learns his name. Eddie Munson.

late May, 1985

Junior year just ended for (Y/N) Hopper. The only thing left to worry about for the summer is saving money for college and which colleges she actually wants to apply to.

A couple months back, she found that the record shop downtown was looking for a new employee. Luckily, her stepdad knew the owner, Doug, and helped her get the job.

Even though the new mall, Starcourt, opened back in January, the shop is still going strong.

It's a warm Saturday morning when (Y/N) gets to work. She pets the store's cat, Fluffy, before setting her stuff down behind the counter and gathering the new releases to add to the shelves. After a few minutes of stocking the store, the bell above the front door dings, signaling the arrival of a customer.

"Hey, new girl."

(Y/N) can recognize that voice anywhere. "I was the new girl three years ago, Eddie."

Eddie slides past her to go to the counter to pet Fluffy. "Whatever, new girl."

(Y/N) rolls her eyes before grabbing the next cassette in the box.

"So, how's your boyfriend?" Eddie asks after a few moments of silence.

She cringes at the thought of Scott. He was one of the star senior basketball players, next to Steve Harrington, of course. Even though (Y/N) is not the most popular girl at school, she is pretty well-known around the school and town of Hawkins.

"Let's not talk about him," she replies, a hint of anger in her voice.

"Hit a nerve?"

She groans, knowing Eddie will refuse to leave it alone until she tells him what happened.

"I honestly should've known it was too good to be true. After two years of me literally following him around like a lost puppy and doing anything he asked, he had the audacity to cheat on me and sleep with Tiffany."

It's Eddie's turn to cringe now. Tiffany is your typical high school rom-com cheerleader; stupid, mean, and likes to pretend she's the nice girl even after sleeping with your boyfriend.

"Ouch, sorry."

(Y/N) shrugs, "It's cool, I guess. Kind of have my eyes on someone else anyways."

She pauses for a moment, feeling a little embarrassed that she would actually admit that to someone who probably doesn't care. Even though he's the one she has eyes for.

She and Eddie have come to know each other a little better since that fateful day her freshman year. See, (Y/N)'s mother is not only an English teacher at the high school, she's also the drama teacher. This means that she also sponsors the Hellfire Club. Since Eddie decided to start the club, (Y/N) has run into him on multiple occasions.

"Oh, yeah?"

A surge of confidence flows through her body when she speaks again. "Yeah... You probably know him. He's a metalhead, has the prettiest hair I've ever seen, and really likes Dungeons and Dragons."

Eddie's heart skips a beat after her confession, and (Y/N) feels her heart racing.

"So, if this said metalhead asked you out on a date, would you say yes?"

"I would."

mid-March, 1986

It's been almost 10 months since that wonderful day at the shop. (Y/N) finds herself falling more and more for Eddie with each day that passes.

It's the Friday before spring break. Tonight is the championship basketball game. Everyone is talking about it.

(Y/N) couldn't care less about the basketball game. Tonight also signifies the end of the big campaign she's helped Eddie plan. The Cult of Vecna.

No one knows that she and Eddie are together. They thought it would be best to save themselves from the bullies at Hawkins High. (Y/N) is tired of hiding. She's an adult, and so is Eddie. Who cares if they want to date?

She watches from the other side of the cafeteria as Eddie stands up on top of the table he sits at with the rest of the Hellfire Club. She can barely hear him over the pounding of her heart in her ears.

She stands up abruptly when Eddie jumps off the table.

"Where are you going?" a friend from the table she was sitting at asks.

"Just excuse me for a second, I'm going to go make a scene."

(Y/N) walks away from the table, making her way towards her boyfriend.

Everyone else in the cafeteria watches in anticipation.

A smile grows on her and Eddie's faces as she gets closer. When she reaches him, she pulls him into a searing kiss. After a few seconds, they pull apart, and look to the members of the club.

"You're dating Eddie? Our Eddie?" Dustin questions as if he can't believe what he just witnessed.

(Y/N) can only nod, not trusting herself to talk. She's usually not that bold in front of other people, but she's tired of pretending to not be dating the "freak".

(Y/N) was Dustin's babysitter after first moving to Hawkins. She has met some of her closest friends through him; Steve, Nancy, Jonathan, and Robin.

"I'm so confused," Mike says.

"She's my girlfriend, dipshit. Get used to it," Eddie says, flicking him on the forehead.

His other arm stays wrapped around his girl's side. He sits down, pulling her down into his lap.

"So, are you joining us tonight for the finale of the campaign?"

"Can she be our sub?" Dustin asks.

"As much as I'd like to do that, I helped him plan this whole thing... I'd have too much of an advantage," she replies to Dustin's question before replying to Eddie's. "I'm planning on being there."

The rest of the day and night goes by in a blur. The campaign ended beautifully after Erica Sinclair helped the Hellfire Club defeat Vecna.

(Y/N) and Eddie part ways for the night, him promising to come over in the morning for breakfast with her and her parents before they head out for vacation.

Even though it's spring break, (Y/N) decided that it would be best if she stayed in Hawkins so she could work a few extra shifts to earn more money for college. Time is running out before she starts school at Roane County Community College.

Saturday morning rolls around, and Eddie is a no-show.

"We've got to head on, sweetheart. Why don't you go by his place later? Maybe he overslept or something," her mother says before placing a kiss on her daughter's forehead. "You have the number of our hotel, so don't hesitate to call if you need us, okay?"

"Got it, ma. Have fun on your vacation."

(Y/N) watches as her mom and stepfather leave in their car before she rushes to the phone to call  Dustin.

"Henderson residence," Dustin's voice comes through the speaker. He sounds uneasy.

"Dustin! Have you heard from Eddie? He was supposed to come over and-"

She's cut off by the boy on the other side of the call.

"Meet us at Family Video in 10."

The line goes dead.

(Y/N) doesn't hesitate to throw the phone back onto the receiver and run to her room to change clothes before taking her car across town to the store.

When she arrives, she finds Dustin, Max, Robin, and Steve sitting around the computer.

"Finally!" Dustin exclaims. "Do you happen to know who Reefer Rick is?"

(Y/N) feels the color drain from her face. "Why? What's happening? I thought you knew where Eddie was?"

"We think he's at this Rick guy's house, but we don't know his last name."

"Lipton...He lives close to Lover's Lake," she says slowly. "Now can you PLEASE tell me what's going on? What's going on with Eddie?"

Max gives her a sympathetic smile. "I'll explain on the way."

"Don't worry, Steve will get him with his oar!" Dustin exclaims sarcastically.

"I don't think this is very funny," Steve says poking at a tarp with the oar.

Suddenly, the tarp flies from over the boat and Eddie jumps out, pinning Steve against the wall with a broken beer bottle gripped tightly in his hand.

"Eddie! It's me, it's Dustin. We're here to help!" Dustin yells.

(Y/N) feels like she can't move. Even though she knows Eddie had nothing to do with Chrissy's death, she doesn't know how to adjust to the situation.

The "fire" at Starcourt last year really took a toll on her mental state. Luckily, she had Eddie to help her through. Except he didn't actually know what took place that day. She lost her dad, someone she barely had time to get to know.

"Eddie, please," she finally speaks up. "We believe you. Whatever actually happened last night. It's okay... We're going to help you. Please, put down the bottle."

Eddie's gaze softens at the sound of his girlfriend's voice. His arm drops down to his side and Robin rushes over to Steve's aid.

(Y/N) throws her arms around Eddie's neck, and he holds onto her tightly.

"I was so scared."

"I know, Eds. We need you to tell us everything that happened."

Eddie sits down and takes a few breaths before explaining everything he experienced the night before.

In turn, Dustin explains the last few years in Hawkins and how everything has led up to this.

"So, you've all dealt with this stuff before?" Eddie asks.

The other five people in the room nod simultaneously.

"So the fire at the mall last year... that was?"

"Russians." Dustin replies.

Eddie shakes his head in disbelief.

(Y/N) can't help but feel bad for him. It was a lot for the whole lot of them during the events, so she can only imagine how he might feel after having everything dropped on him at once.

"What do we do?" Eddie asks.

"We need to keep you safe, for one. My parents are out of town, so you could come stay at my place," (Y/N) offers. "At least until we can find a safe house. And we need to find Nancy."

A couple of days have gone by when Jason Carver shows up at (Y/N)'s door.

"Hey, sweetheart," he grins as she opens the door carefully.

Her blood runs cold at the idea that he could find Eddie downstairs in the basement.

"What do you want, Carver?" she spits.

Jason puts his hands up in defense. "Just wanted to check up on you... Since, you know, your freak boyfriend killed my girl."

(Y/N) rolls her eyes. "You and I both know that he wouldn't do that. You'd have more motive to kill her before Eddie would."

She goes to shut the door before Jason stops the wood from completely shutting him out.

"Then you wouldn't mind if I took a look around, right? Want to make sure you don't have any murderers hiding in here."

"Get off my property before I call the cops, Jason."

(Y/N) slams the door shut and watches as Jason gets back into his Jeep and drives off. She then rushes down the stairs where Eddie, Dustin, Max, Nancy, Robin, and Steve sit.

"We need to get you to my dad's cabin," she says to Eddie. "Jason Carver just showed up, and I think he's going to tell the cops that I'm hiding you here."

The group quickly grabs all their belongings before they head out to the middle of the woods to hide Eddie in Hopper's old cabin.

Once there, Steve asks, "Wasn't this thing destroyed last year?"

"My stepdad and I repaired most of it... I was going to move in after I graduated, so it'll work for Eddie until we figure everything out." (Y/N) explains before adding, "It needs a good cleaning so that'll give you something to do while we work through this, Eds."

After a couple hours of cleaning, (Y/N) and Eddie crash on the couch in the living room.

Eddie is still shaken up after the past few days. Who can blame him? He's been through enough trauma in less than a week than some people experience in a lifetime.

"Thank you... for doing this," Eddie says, leaning back into the cushions.

"I love you, Eddie. And I'm going to do everything I can to keep you safe from all this."

Eddie chuckles, running his fingers through his curls. "I should be the one telling you that. God, I'm a coward."

(Y/N) reaches over and grabs his hands, lacing her fingers with his. "Listen to me, Eddie Munson. You are not a coward. You did the same thing any of us would do. This is scary, and we've gone through so much these past few years. You are brave for even still being here with us."

With that, the two of them sit for a while before they both drift off to sleep.

The next morning, they are awoken to the sound of a car pulling up outside.

(Y/N) glances out the window to see Steve, Dustin, and Robin get out of Steve's BMW. She opens the front door for them and they all make themselves as comfortable as they can in the tiny, wooden cabin.

"We have a plan," Dustin tells the couple. "When Vecna is attacking his victims, he goes into a sleep-like state in the Upside Down. If we can get through the rift in Eddie's house, we can get in and attack when Vecna leasts expects it."

Dustin then lays out what looks to be a series of maps. "This is Hawkins, which would also be how the Upside Down looks, just, you know, scarier. The Creel house is here-- he points to a red marked spot on the map-- and this is Eddie's house. We, me and the two of you, are going to distract the demobats while Robin, Steve, and Nancy get into the Creel house and attack Vecna's body. This is all in the Upside Down. In actual Hawkins, Lucas, Max, and Erica are going to be in the Creel house and Max is going to lure Vecna to her. Lucas will stand guard while she taunts him, and then Erica will signal for us to begin our plan."

"Are we sure this is going to work?" Eddie asks, fear seeping through his words.

"It's the best we've got..." Steve answers.

"Then let's do it."

"I'm buying more time," Eddie says before cutting the sheets that connect the Upside Down to his home.

"Eddie, no!" (Y/N) screams.

Eddie runs off and Dustin grabs a chair to help give (Y/N) a boost to get back into the Upside Down.

"Please stay here, Dustin. I can't let anything happen to you, okay?"

Dustin throws his arms around her, giving her a tight hug before helping her go back through the rift.

(Y/N) runs through the Upside Down before finding Eddie standing up against hundreds of demobats. She watches in horror as some attack him.

She grips her weapon tighter before running and slicing through what she can.

And like a switch was flipped, the remaining demobats fall to the ground.

(Y/N) falls to her knees in front of Eddie. He takes a couple deep breaths as he lays on the cold ground.

"You better not die on me, Munson, or I'll kill you myself."

"I didn't run this time, princess."

"I know, Eddie. You're a hero," she cries. "Now let's go home."

She helps her boyfriend off the ground before they get back to the trailer.

"Holy shit, you're okay!" Dustin exclaims after the two get back to the real world.

He wraps his arms around the couple, clearly happy that they are alive.

The three of them head back to the rendezvous point, Hopper's cabin, and wait for the rest of the team to arrive.

A couple days later, the group, minus Eddie, finds themselves at (Y/N)'s house.

"So, you're telling me that during our short vacation... Eddie was "framed" for murder, you defeated a creepy monster in the Upside Down, and met Victor Creel, the man who I had nightmares about for years?" (Y/N)'s mother asks.

(Y/N)'s mom and stepdad know all about the events that have taken place in Hawkins. (Y/N)'s mom was one of the key people that helped Joyce Byers prove that Will was still alive in another dimension.

"Uh, yeah, that's pretty much it," Dustin says.

"I want to go check on Eddie, so do you guys want to come with me?" (Y/N) asks.

The group follows her outside and into a couple different cars before heading out into the woods yet again.

When they get there, they see a van reading "Surfer Boy Pizza."

"It's a California car... Do you think it could be the Byers?" Steve asks.

They slowly make their way to the front door before Dustin does his special "secret" knock that he made Eddie learn so he would know that it was him.

The door creeps open, revealing Eddie and El.

"(Y/N)!" El exclaims, throwing her arms around her older sister.

"What are you doing here?" (Y/N) asks.

El pulls her inside, then into her old bedroom, and explains everything that happened in California.

"I'm so glad you're okay," (Y/N) sighs out.

Outside the bedroom door comes a creak in the floorboard and the door swings open.

"Dad?"

The two girls rush over to the tall man in the doorway and he holds onto the two of them tightly.

"I never stopped believing," El says through tears.

"How are you here?" (Y/N) questions.

"It's a long story, but I'm here now, kid." Hopper says. "Now tell me why Munson is in my living room."

(Y/N) laughs. "About that..."

"You know I've busted him for drugs on multiple occasions, right?"

"Details, details..." (Y/N) says. "He's my boyfriend."

Hopper sighs, running a hand down his face. "Of course he is."

"He also saved my life..."

"I'll forgive him this time."

(Y/N) laughs again. "I'm glad you're home, dad."

"Me, too, kid."

Right trying this again cause I accidentally posted it halfway through writing it so 💀 scarlet Headcanons.

Bare in mind this is not for all the characters, there's a limited amount of them that I actually have solid headcanons for.

Paul Metcalfe

I get he's the main guy but I have zero headcanons for the guy, probs the only one being bi but that's literally all the characters to me. I see a lot of Scarlet and Blue stuff which is fun but my brain sees Scarlet not really wanting a relationship with anyone, guys just happy as is and working on his mysteron self.

Adam Svenson

Born and raised in Sweden with his first language being Swedish.

Can also speak French.

His mother lives in Sweden whilst his father moved to America when Adam was a teen.

He has 2 younger sisters, Lena and Johanna. His favourite colour weirdly enough is blue, but he tends to like darker shades.

He has a mix of European and American music taste. Some of his favourite musicians are Great Van fleet, Poor man's poison, Ghost and Käärija.

Freckly guy

NCS Blue, bulky and short, OCS Blue, tall and less bulky, slightly slimmer than his NCS counterpart.

This probs goes against my statement in the Scarlet section but despite Scarlet and Blue never being together, Blue did have a crush on Scarlet in the beginning, which since they r good pals, they spoke about, Adam learning that Paul wasn't really the relationship guy, they both laugh about it now and overall it made their relationship stronger.

Bisexual

Bad relationship with father. Very good relationship with his Mother.

Patrick Donaghue

Like blue his first language isn't english, He was raised speaking Gaelic. He learnt when he moved to America where he was taught by schools but also his long time best friend Maria Moro (Uh oh sounds like Mario Moro, guess who's rlly not that incentive).

Can also speak Italian and French.

He is gay but only realised it in recent years. He has a Child (with Maria) who was an accident after a night out together, called Rosa Moro-Donaghue.

Patrick and Maria were never in a romantic relationship, they remained 2 friends that raised Rosa, well mainly Maria due to Patrick's criminal life. But she ended up getting a boyfriend, Stephen, who she ended up getting engaged to. Patrick stills remains good friends with Maria and stays with them when he's off duty.

Is in a relationship with Ochre. They hated each other in the beginning, a cop and a criminal ya know how it is. Despite Ochres faked death and change of appearance Magenta recognised him pretty quick.

Their iffy start is why White placed them together, he wanted them to learn from each other and grow and they did. They started spending more and more time together and sometimes Ochre joined Magenta on his trips to see his family (Maria, Stephen and Rosa).

He has a rocky relationship with both his parents and doesn't speak to them anymore.

Still has ties with his criminal background, despite them being criminals still many of them were close friends. They are also useful with information if there's mysteron sightings in NYC.

A short guy, slim, moles, a lot of scarring.

Richard Fraser

Is quite quiet, he tends to keep to himself, until he is on duty.

He suffers from depression, mainly due to his fake assassination meaning he couldn't see his family whom he was very close with.

Is bi, something he realised very recently. He spoke with Magenta about his feelings and together they had a deep conversation leading to him working out his identity.

Tall, a bit of fat with muscle.

He likes to read on his time off. He goes through books very quickly, he always reads before bed unless he is exhausted.

Conrad Turner/Lefkon

This one is kind of a mix between both versions because the headcanons kinda work for both but I edit them to match each version but overall r the same kinda headcanon.

Has cat(s). Conrad Turner picked up a stray when he was Mysteronised, the cat stays in the same area and if he can he goes to see it, when the mysteron war is over, the cat is still there, around 6 years old. Turner picks it up and adopts it as a little companion for his recovery. Lefkon has 2 cats, gin and tonic, he got them when he was in his mid twenties when he was recovering from war related injuries, he was staying with his dad at the time. The two cats stay with his dad whilst he is on duty.

Lefkon is close with his father, and was close with his mother before her passing when Lefkon was 23 years old.

Suffers with depression and PTSD due to wars (and his mother's untimely passing, in Lefkons case)

Can speak English, Russian, Greek and french.

Headcanons about the Main Four + Y/N (afab)

I just wanted to preface that this is just my Headcanons and all of this is for fun! If the characters seem ooc mind your buisness and let me live my delulu life. j/

Also for after having a convo with a friend of mine Y/N is gonna be specified at the top of post if their female, male or gender neutral presenting! Also I know Y/N is suppose to be a self insert but I lover writing personalities so heres some head canons that I have for her!

Kurapika

Always somehow smells like rain water and eucalyptus

Though he's tried to preserve as much of the traditions and customs of the kurta clan, he's slowly losing it as he goes deeper and deeper his attempt to avenge them.

Keeps a diary but is never consistent with it (sounds like his friendships)

Has the biggest rbf ever and no one is brave enough to point it out.

Absolutely despised fast food, would only eat it if it was the only option for him.

Has never kissed anyone on the lips in his life and most likely will never (sorry guys)

Has the best skin out of the whole group, he doesn't even do much its literally water and face wash

According to him his phone doesn't work, so he doesn't have Spotify to stream new artist (pls call your friend back). I do believe that he would listen to jazz and folk music.

Says he's above petty shit talking but once you get him going, he doesn't stop.

Up until he started wearing suits for his body guard job he use to hand sew his clothes.

Constantly forgets to get hair cuts and gets annoyed when his hair covers his face.

Doesn't respond to texts or calls. In the groupchat he just reads the messages and its rare that he shows up to the group hangouts

Leorio

Has a consistent smell of old spice and axe body spray

Has a thing against germs so he always has hand sanitizer on hand for whenever and wherever

Needs to be able to read something to learn it, thats why learning nen was hard for him. (apparently writing down knowelege is sacrilege in the hxh universe but whatever)

Hates modern art with a passion, all he sees are splotches of paint on a canvas with an overpriced tag attached to it.

I hate to say is girls, but he was not a feminist until Y/N beat the shit out of him for saying some bs analogy about locks and keys (if yk im sorry that yk). Would have definitly listened to one of those alpha male podcast. Kurapika almost broke his arm trying to hold Y/N back.

Has kissed one girl in his life, but it was BAD like real bad. He kept doing the kissy face (yk what I'm talking about) and gave the poor thing the ick.

Owns a planner yet never uses it.

Music taste is that of a middle aged father: Eagles, Alice Cooper, Chicago, Radio Head

The best gift giver and honestly the most thoughtful when it comes to his friends.

He'll listen to everyones problems. Honestly such a dad.

Biggest gossip, cannot shut his mouth to save his life

Killua

Smells like iron and burnt sage (grandpa zeno looks like he would be into that hippie shit ngl)

Wants to learn how to surf so bad but doesn't have the time

Y/N gave him a fidget spinner as a joke for his birthday, but he ended up loving it.

Only texts in the groupchat via meme reactions. Responds for both Gon and him because they're always together. Either way Leorio is just happy that someone is responding.

Is so judgmental on what you wear.

Thinks he's cool and edgy for listening to green day and panic! at the disco but really its what every twelve year old boy does.

Met Y/N before the rest of the group so now she's #number1trustedadult. This has caused her a lot of problems with the Zoldyck family, especially with Illumi.

Tried flirting with a girl once but in twelve year old boy fashion he ended up accidentally insulting her. He hasn't attempted to talk to a girl ever since.

Has ice cold skin, like touching it is like touching a corpse thats been stuck in the freezer

Bought purple shampoo for his hair because he noticed that the hard water in most places was discoloring his white hair.

Illumi has been blocked on everything except email, so every once in awhile he'll get random emails from Illumi's spam account.

Gon

Our sweet boy probably smells like salt water and wet forest

Has a wildlife analogy or story for every occasion

Killua has been trying to get him to change outfits, but he absolutely refuses to go into a department store after Aunt Mito lost him in one when he was younger.

Will eat absolutely anything edible.

Has a collection of stuffed animals from everywhere he and Killua have been.

Today I watched an older video of “Tasting History with Max Miller” on YouTube, and was oddly amused by the idea of chartreuse jelly with peaches being the last thing many 1st class passengers ate on April the 14th, 1912.

That prompted me to research more about the Titanic. One thing led to another and I’m looking up photos of the wreck of the Titanic, as you do. I typed “Titanic today”, because I heard the wreck is literally vanishing.

And then…movie showtimes appear in my Google search. Multiple theaters, multiple showings.

Being a little confused, I looked deeper into this, and as it so happens:

We are now at the 25th anniversary of the film “Titanic”.

Why are we still captivated by the Titanic and it’s maiden voyage, which happened 110 years ago?

Why am I still thinking about the Titanic movie? That was apparently 25 years ago! But it feels like 84 some days.

Was I the perfect age at 11/12 for the 1997 movie to capture my imagination? I guess so. I was the perfect preteen age for the Titanic film, as well as The Spice Girls and later as a teenager, the Lord of the Rings. The stars aligned for me.

You think people are nuts about it now? People were Titanic-Crazy in 1997/98! The local library hosted a Titanic movie night (“A Night to Remember”, an old black and white film), and I also attended a Titanic themed tea party. I read the CD insert of the Titanic soundtrack while listening to Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”. My mom sewed a beautiful costume for my sister who dressed as Rose for Halloween, complete with the Heart of the Ocean “diamond” necklace.

Old tech alert: I remember when the 1st vhs ended and it was time to take the 2nd half of the movie out and pop it in the vcr.

“Well, I believe you may get your headlines, Mr. Ismay,” - Captain John Smith. Then…black screen.

Technically it’s a disaster movie, but it had the love story and that did it for many people.

If I’m honest, the love story wasn’t my favorite but the sinking in almost real time was thrilling. I also loved and still love the costumes and the set decorations and the music.

I think seeing a young girl finding joy in life and deciding that she’s never going to be small and meek ever again, was my favorite thing.

Rose got to do everything she and Jack talked about (including, I imagine, throwing up on the Coney Island roller coaster). If she hadn’t met Jack, she’d be long dead inside, if not actually passed on. Her life force was in danger of being snuffed out at 17. She was literally suicidal. I think they could have had this storyline without the whirlwind romance but, at the end of the day that’s what sells.

I vividly remember my theater experience watching it. I was not allowed to watch 2 scenes:

1. When Jack draws Rose like one or his French girls. (So, I peeked through my fingers anyway. And seeing the gorgeous Kate Winslet posing nude on a couch awakened something in me…yeah I’m Bi. My friends swooned over Jack; I had complicated feelings about Rose, and didn’t understand them yet.).

2. And toward the end when we see frozen dead, wide eyed people being pulled from the dark water. I actually listened to my mom and didn’t look; many years later I looked and I’m still sorry.

I also remember looking around me during Jack’s death/“I’ll never let go!” scene, and seeing in every direction in the movie theater, crying women and girls. Tears streaming down faces, heaving sobs, ugly crying. Faces lit up by the blue light the screen was giving off; the scene was a blue dimly lit one.

I never cried at that scene. But I always cry or tear up at these scenes:

1. The father telling his children they’ll be separated only for a little while, as they cry for him from the lifeboat.

2. The scene when the 3rd class mother tucks her children into bed, telling them a bedtime story. The lifeboats were gone, and the ship was sinking fast, and she knew they would die.

I’m not sure how, as a parent, you don’t feel something during these scenes.

I’m not going to go to the theater to experience 4k Titanic. But it’s fun to revisit this movie.

Brief Introduction to Kleo’s Approach to Cartomancy

Recently this little blog of mine is attracting some attention and not only from those who are into tarot or cartomancy in general.

I get messages from people who are not completely sure what to think about tarot or they haven’t encountered this ancient art often in the future. To make things easier for all of you, I think it’s about time I give you a very brief introduction to my approach to cartomancy and tarot, how I do readings, pick the topics, assemble the spreads and choose the wording. And maybe some little tips and tricks on how you can spice up your own tarot experience, too.

What is Cartomancy?

Cartomancy is fortune-telling or divination using a deck of cards. You can literally use any deck of any cards to start fortune-telling. You don’t even have to be a psychic. You can be sitting in a comfy chair, being bored by Netflix and just grab a deck of playing cards and start with cartomancy.

Yes, it sounds simple when I put it like this. And it actually is simple. Obviously, like any other skill, cartomancy improves with practice. If you’re a psychic or have stronger intuition, your progress is likely to be faster. It’s like some children are born with a musical talent and can play piano compositions at the age of 5 while you are 30 and still struggling with Mary had a Lamb. Some people have a natural talent for cartomancy but it doesn’t mean that you can’t do it without the talent. You can. You’re only going to need more time, more practice, more studying. But you, too, can become an awesome tarot fortune-teller. If that’s your goal.

I said you can use any deck of any cards and it’s true but there are types of cards that are specifically designed for cartomancy purposes. You probably have already heard about tarot. Tarot is recently the most popular method but it’s not the only one. You can use oracle cards, Lenormand, Kipper or even runic cards for fortune telling. Each type has its pros and cons, you might find out you really vibe with oracle cards but can’t find a meaning in Kipper for example. It’s really individual and depends on your personal taste.

My approach to cartomancy

In my practice, I use all the mentioned types of cards. I especially love tarot. Why? Because there’s a psychological depth to the card meanings and there’s a certain pattern or order. I love patterns and order. Excel is my favourite Microsoft tool.

Anyway! My personal approach to cartomancy is less psychic or magical and more psycho-analytical. Carl Gustav Jung, one of the fathers of psycho-analysis, had a great respect towards tarot as the Major Arcana cards are describing the basic archetypes most people on the planet will understand regardless of their cultural background. The Empress symbolises the archetype of mother, and mother is something that holds similar meaning to all nations - a person who gives life, creates, brings abundance. Ask anyone in the world about the characteristics of a mother and they will give similar answers. Jung called it collective unconscious - some terms are perfectly understandable for mankind as a whole. And tarot is an awesome tool to connect with your own collective unconscious. I believe there's no magic behind my tarot readings. The cards will never tell me something I didn’t know at all. They will simply bring to the spotlight something I have known, something my mind has already noticed, only pushed it to the back because at the moment it wasn’t necessary to be further examined. When tarot cards talk to me, they make me face things I subconsciously pushed away for some reason. The cards simply pull it back and make me deal with it. Or when I do readings for other people, they unknowingly give me hints. Through the cards, I can better decipher those hinds and find the right wording. You don’t realise it but the way word requests, the information you give me about yourself, even the time of day you requested, everything gives hints. I might not be able to decipher everything and also the communication online is limited but the cards will help me to recognize what you have hinted to me so I can tell you something that resonates with you. Because it’s something you already indirectly told me. Lol… Now I’m not sure if it makes sense.

Kleo’s tarot readings

I prefer to do psycho-analytical tarot readings, obviously. I love psychology. I never studied it but I read many books as a hobby. I like to observe people and how they behave. And I like to use this knowledge in my tarot readings.

I also prefer to look at things from unusual perspectives. It can happen that I will refuse to do a reading which sounds like something that has been done a million times before. Sorry about that but you can always ask a different tarot reader.

I love to make tarot spreads! The mere idea of a reading with clear structure and order is just fabulous! (We are back to my Excel obsession.)

I assemble spreads in a way so they describe a certain situation or scenario. There’s usually some development through the spread. I try to make them fun and interesting, too. I’m not a very serious person myself and I truly prefer to have fun when doing tarot reading. You can disagree with me or say I’m somewhat ruining the sacred tradition but that’s your opinion. Just unfollow me if you have a problem with my approach to tarot.

Kleo’s wording

I never use an accusatory tone in my readings. Every person has a reason to act the way they do. Nobody is born a mean b*tch. If people see you that way, it’s because they don’t know about your past traumas or unsettled issues. I have several tarot spreads describing the more negative characteristics of personality and I even have an astrology based series Idols After Dark describing the dark sides of celebrities and never ever use an accusatory tone. Once again we are back to Carl Gustav Jung. He believed that every person has their dark sides. The trick to handle them is to thoroughly examine them, embrace them, love them, accept them the way they are and bring them to light. Jung thought that suppressing your dark sides, chaining them, hiding them in the corners of your mind will only result in serious mental issues and life resentment. And I agree. And honestly, imperfect people are so much more interesting. People who acknowledge their dark sides and aren’t ashamed of them are the ones who made my life so much richer and taught me things I would never learn from anybody else.

So! If you feel like you are a dark, damaged, crooked, unlovable person, chances are I will actually love you. And I will encourage you to embrace all your imperfections and turn them into your beauty traits. And suddenly you become popular and loved by many and you will leave me for someone prettier than me and here go my trust issues. I’m embracing them, just haven’t found how to actually make them attractive yet. Working on it.

How to do kinky or spicy tarot readings?

Association game. You know how therapists will tell you a word and you are supposed to tell them the first word that comes to your mind? Do the same with tarot only limit the scope of your answers to kinky. Take the keywords for the card and associate something spicy with them. Or just examine the imagery of the card and find something kinky in there. It’s not easy at first but with practice you will be able to see sexy positions in anything. Now I’m not sure if it’s actually good to teach you this. I mean… You have your own free will.

Andie! 🌺 Do you have any book recommendations? I'm trying to get back into reading actual books and not just fanfiction but I have no idea what's even out there now help I trust your taste

Ahhh hello my love!! I'm honored to be trusted with this, even if you don't end up liking any of these! ✨ I feel like literary taste can be just as intensely personal as music taste, and you can have such a different set of preferences even compared to your closest friends. But I’ll rec my faves and hope you like them anyway!!

I mostly read YA, and within that genre, I feel like some of my easiest reads/rereads have been the Six of Crows duology, and the Lunar Chronicles:

Six of Crows: I have made six different people read Six of Crows, including my brother who never reads anything, all the way up to my most bookish friend, and they all loved it, so I feel like there’s truly something for everyone here. It’s a fast-paced fantasy heist series with a diverse cast of interesting and well-developed characters, and a lot of very well-executed character development in the later part of the series. My all time fave.

The Lunar Chronicles is a sci-fi retelling of several different fairy tales, starting with Cinderella. It’s baby sci-fi and super accessible, which is important to me because I usually can’t sit still for any of the intense world-building or crazy names with like fifteen Xs in them lol. My fave in the series is the first novel, but all of them are fun, and I would literally lay down my life (and my underthings) for Prince Kai. One of the things I really respect about his character (and the series) is how he puts his country and his people even before his love for the main character. I feel like YA around this time was peddling a lot of “love over everything” type narratives but I don’t think I could love a man who let his entire country suffer just for me. Anyway the author handles his character and the difficulties of his choices so well (but don’t worry, this is a happy endings only zone)!!

Outside of YA, my faves are:

The Pink Carnation series: I fucking love historical romance but I have such a hard time finding ones that don’t annoy me. The Pink Carnation series is one of the only ones that doesn’t. It follows the exploits of a ring of spies connected to the English aristocracy during the Napoleonic Wars. It’s really meticulously researched and super smart, but written so accessibly and so hilariously, if doesn’t feel dark or dry. It’s got all my fave tropes: misunderstandings, likeable yet unreliable narrators, hot and gentlemanly love interests, not-actually-unrequited love, the works lol. The historical narrative is interspersed with the exploits of a modern day researcher following documents related to the historical plotline, and I like her parts too. I just love reading all the stuff about her spooling through microfilm and digging around in the British Library archives, it feels like I’m digging up the past right along with her lol. And she has her own fun romance too.

The Goblin Emperor: If you’re ever up to dealing with the world-buildy nonsense of high fantasy, I recommend this novel. You do have to pay careful attention to names of people and places as they can get confusing, and all of them contain like a zillion fucking letters and agglutinative honorifics and stuff. But if you have the patience for that, the rest of this novel is so good. Maia is the fourth son of the emperor of the Goblin empire, relegated into isolation, but he’s brought back to court when his father and three older brothers die in an engineered “accident”, and he has to navigate political dynamics he was never prepared for while finding out what really happened to his family. Maia is the most likeable protagonist I have ever read, and I love how kind and patient he is, how he deals with his own grief and struggles to make sense of his past and present, and I love how he manages to attract the cutest little found family ever. They’re all ready to lay down their lives for him and tbh I am too.

The Husband’s Secret: I have recently been on a Liane Moriarty kick and I actually recommend like anything she’s ever written. She mostly writes modern-day suspense/light mystery books circling around family and interpersonal dynamics. The Husband’s Secret follows a set of women in a small town who are all peripheral to each other’s lives. One woman finds a letter her husband wrote for her to open if he dies, but she opens it well before he’s dead and it sets off a chain reaction where long-kept community secrets are revealed. Liane Moriarty’s books are super quick and easy reads, something I would absolutely take to the beach, but they’re well-plotted and interesting, as they can cover some really fucked up events lol.
