if you feel like doing any more game rec requests, got anything for "pokemon, but harder"? that is, actually needing to stop and think about next moves rather than just spamming my strongest move ("FLOWER TRICK! GO!"). despite how influential pokemon is, i tend to have a lotta trouble finding games in the "monster collector fight em all" genre that arent even more pared down! I still have fun w those oc, but other times i want a lil challenge ya kno?
For example, one i have found myself that was at least a lil bit more challenging was monster hunter stories 2, a game where ironically the story is one of the weaker points.
while I wouldnt call it incredibly difficult, the battles are designed to be at least SLIGHTLY longer so that you need to plan at least a lil more long term, unlike pokemon which seems to end up with a TON of 2 hit K.O. battles even for the late game and sorta makes non-damage moves feel like a waste (though i would wanna avoid st with the "long battles automatically equal harder", just. 5 turns avg is a lot more time to strategize than 2 turns!) and the battle system is designed to encourage switching up moves (its got a sorta rock-paper-scissors system)
It really depends on what your tolerance level for edgy neo-gothic bullshit and monsters that look like giant dicks is. The Shin Megami Tensei franchise is basically the gold standard for monster-collecting games that a. actually provide interesting tactical choices, and b. try to kick the player's ass all up and down the street. However, most of the games are also edgy to the point of self-parody, which isn't everybody's cup of tea.

The Big OSR Post
What better way to close out the blog's first month but with a huge repository of fun OSR games? I'm not personally a huge fan, but I understand this is a genre people really enjoy, so as a compromise, I'll do every OSR submitted in a masterpost. I understand this is probably a pretty controversial move, but I simply think the genre's too similar to each other, I might be wrong but that's just the vibe I get! I'm sure there's some very fun and creative OSRs out there, they're just not made for me. I'll keep myself from sharing my thoughts on the genre for now, but rest assure these are cool games recommended by people who actually enjoy the genre!
Well, except this one:
Trespasser is really good. It's a mix of the Combat of 4e, with the dungeon crawling, character creation, and general vibe of OSR, it's a really good time, and its a high recommend from me personally Now on to the list of games actually by people who care about OSR:
This one's a very very popular one, Mausritter is based on stuff like Redwall, and it's chock full of incredibly high quality fanmade content, if you want an OSR where you play as a little rat, check this one out
This one's pretty interesting, I was debating giving it its own post because it just breaks so many OSR conventions but it calls itself an OSR, so in here it goes ig. Fist is a game that takes the narrative first approach of a PBTA game, but combines it with lightning speed disposable character creation, to truly give you the experience of being an expendable mercenary going against unfathomable odds. This game's pretty fun, I'd check it out even if you're not into the OSR genre
this one's pretty popular, Electric Bastionland is a simple OSR that focuses on exploring a huge underground city, its very rules lite so you can usually get up and running with it pretty quick so go check it out if you want a simpler game
https://punkpadour.itch.io/yokai-hunter
Yokai Hunter's Society, its a good rules light game, a recommend if you want to hunt weird folkloric monsters
https://preview.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/399483/Into-the-Odd--Remastered
This one's not on itch so sorry if you're allergic to non-itch.io websites
it's set in an underground society where one explores to find treasure. its a good fun time for all involved
look the tone isn't because i dislike these games, its because i wrote this entire post once and then tumblr glitched and made me lose all of it
https://emielboven.itch.io/tea-01
the setting's really fun, and the rules are lite, it's a good time. The setting is specifically based on Morrowind, Dark Sun, and other weird fiction.
https://graculusdroog.itch.io/vaults-of-vaarn
Vaults of Vaarn is a psychodelic ttrpg set in a postapocalyptic earth, its weird, fun, and also i believe its like entirely hand drawn which really adds to the aesthetic
https://tuesdayknightgames.itch.io/mothership-players-survival-guide
Mothership is a space horror OSR, its a biiiit more complex than the other ones, but its also got a shit ton of fan resources, and its also pretty basic in its character creation to make up for it
https://diogo-old-skull.itch.io/primal-quest-essentials
I got this one in a bundle actually
While the rules weren't for me, I think the setting is really cool, stone age fantasy is just really underrated as a concept, we need more of it!
We Deal in Lead is a weird west ttrpg, so if you're into that aesthetic, go check it out. its focused on exploration and player choice, and it can also be played with only one or two players
Beetle Knight is cool, its set in a tiny world where bugs are an organized society, think hollow knight, it's not out just yet, but its something to keep an eye on
OK I've actually PLAYED this one, so I can have an opinion on it: the WIthout Number series isn't great. BUT, there's a few rules which are ridiculously fun and well designed, so I honestly think this is a YMMV franchise. the biggest issue is how the rolling for HP works, if you can fix that, they're perfectly acceptable OSR games
Songbirds 3e is a surrealist game about being chosen (Or cursed) by death to help spirits passing on, when spirits are left stuck on earth they grow more and more monstrous every day, and its YOUR job to stop them from growing into a problem, no pressure. https://davidblandy.itch.io/lost-eons
Lost Eons is neat, its a game set in a solarpunk post apocalypse where magic's all around and actively mutating everyone around. It's got a cool post human look at the world, fairly simple yet fun rules, weird and interesting spellcasting rules, and more!
Knave is a streamlined classless OSR game, i heard a lot about this one and from what I can read its actually a really fun time, so check it out https://yochaigal.itch.io/cairn
(these last two go together since they're both Knave derivatives just with different settings and some more interesting mechanics) https://killjestergames.itch.io/errant this game was pitched to me as "Maximalist second only to literally just D&D 1e hacks", so thats about as much of a pitch most people really need. It actually looks pretty interesting
https://gormengeist.itch.io/greed
GREED or: Oil for the Blood God! It's an intensely surreal game by @gormengeist, its from what I can tell a sort of deconstruction of the OSR genre of game, so definitely a bit more on the niche side, but its fairly interesting and well designed

ALL the references in the Dead Cells x Castlevania trailer, "Return to Castlevania"
The trailer opens with the Dead Cell's Prisoner at the outskirts of Dracula's Castle, in the woods. He's perplexed for what has happened as he sees a mess on the way leading to the unholy fortress and then sees a zombie emerging from the earth while we see the castle gates. Another zombie tells him that the answers he's seeking for are in the castle. We see the castle's gates and two gargoyles sitting on pillars.
Tumblr media
This is similar to Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance's prologue, where we can see two gargoyles too at the entrance.
Tumblr media
After entering the castle and discovering tons of monsters' corpses lying on the way to the upper floor and corridor, he sees two famous vampire hunters: Richter Belmont & Alucard. They are taking care of Dracula's army of demons, slashing, whipping, and kicking asses.
Tumblr media
Alucard is armed with the Alucard Sword and Richter wields the legendary Vampire Killer, but the design is the Combat Cross one from the Castlevania: Lords of Shadows game series. I'm glad that since SBBU recent collabs featuring the Belmonts have also acknowledged that the Combat Cross looks cooler than the bullwhip classic design.
Tumblr media
The Prisoner then decides to battle Alucard and Richter, thinking they are foes for killing many creatures. Seeing that the Prisoner is very reckless, both decide to tackle him, breaking many walls and sending him away to a well known tower. Alucard used a quick dash plus his vampire strength and Richter tackles the Prisoner by summoning holy fire on the Vampire Killer and covering himself with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This might be a reference to his flame whip Item Crash in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and SotN when having no sub-weapons plus his dashing attack in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but also Trevor's fire tackle in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The guy with the flaming head and one eye ends up flying out from the Castle Keep to another room. When the Prisoner turns back and notices where's he's at, he sees none other than the Dark Lord Dracula. He's in Dracula's chamber from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dracula sees him as an intruder and proceeds to face him in combat, teleporting. His teleport leaves smoky bats, similar to when he appears and disappears in some games like Castlevania: Bloodlines, Chronicles & Portrait of Ruin, and also the Dracula Wraith, who only possesses Dracula's facade, does this in Harmony of dissonance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Terrified, the Prisoner notices that Richter and Alucard also have come to face Dracula and joins them, because now he knows who's the real bad guy that he has to defeat. Behind them we have a reference to the stained glass of Olrox's chamber.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The three heroes are ready to face the Count. Alucard does a spell that is similar to the Sword Brothers one but also resembles the Heaven's Sword special attack, summoning many blades around him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Richter uses the Bible sub-weapon to imbue himself with Holy Power.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Prisoner also does a special attack summoning...pans?, similar to Richter's Axe Item-Crash in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and SotN.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Alucard dashes with the other two heroes to attack Dracula, in a split-second, you can see that the animators added Alucard's starting walking cycle animation, holding part of his cape with one hand and letting the rest to flow behind him, extending his other arm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dracula covers himself with his cape when Alucard, Richter and the Prisoner are about to strike him in their combined attack. Then he counterattacks them with his iconic spell: Hellfire, trying to confront the heroes' combined powers. Then we get a close up of his fangs, perhaps wanting to bite them, and then the scene cuts into a black screen for a second.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see then that the heroes have been defeated and now stand outside in a cliff, perhaps ready to take revenge and defeat the Prince of Darkness once and for all next time. This is a reference to the ending of many Castlevania games, but also the first one that featured more than one hero standing victorious while watching the castle on the horizon: Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Phew. Well, i think this is all of it, at least about the visual references, because i know you got all the famous music that was played in the trailer. Kudos to the animators who made this awesome trailer with lots of details in it. This is how you give fan-service to the fans and how you get them to buy your game plus this DLC. The music, the cartoony and expressive style, the action, everything was incredible. The trailer was flawless. Well, no. It's too short. I really want to see more of this, where i can sign a petition? by the way, the collab's name, "Return to Castlevania" seems to be a reference to an infamous Captain N episode of the same name, featuring Simon, Alucard & Dracula with their worst looks ever, lol.

Alright, time for another Monster Hunter wishlist! This time instead of just monsters I would personally like to see, I'm going to try and put a bit more focus on monsters that will fill unique niches in an environment, or interact with the environment in an interesting way. Doing it this way since, if my assumptions based on one very short trailer are correct, that's going to be a focus in Wilds!
List itself under the cut so I can really go in depth! I also have a lot on this wishlist, so it's going to be long regardless.
As some context for how I'm thinking about this game, several of the more recent major monster hunter games have really seemed to hone in on one particular aspect of the game, and worked on expanding or perfecting it.
Generations had an impressive monster roster, with lots of very unique additions and a huge returning roster. Tons of variants, and a some really cool new monsters that didn't use existing skeletons.
World eliminated load times between areas, and made a world that felt connected and more natural. You feel less like you're in a series of arenas, more like you're actually in an environment with these monsters.
Rise focused a lot on controls and mobility/maneuverability. Lots of verticality, as well as tons of new moves and abilities for various weapons, streamlining of certain weapons, and customizable move sets. You are encourage to explore and jump and climb, making it feel like it had another dimension that even world didn't quite have.
With that context for my thinking explained, let's start off with an unsurprising portion of this list; as usual, I want to see underwater combat (and the leviathans and piscene wyverns that go with it) make a comeback! Rise gave us more three dimensional combat and movement that worked beautifully, so I think they're really primed to bring back water combat in a way that feels much less clunky and slow. Specific water monsters I would like to see include:
Gobul: TOP of this list tbh. Not a favorite fight of mine, but I think if you want a monster that's going to make a water environment feel more alive and interactive, Gobul is a great choice. It's also very distinct appearance-wise!
Lagiacrus: a popular choice, and a cool one! I'm biased since Tri was my first monster hunter game, of course, but I want to see Lagiacrus get to shine again with its full move set, including under water moves.
Ceadeus: this one I wouldn't count on even if it was guaranteed that water combat would come back. BUT I love it, this elder dragon that exists at the intersection of whale, slug, and buffalo, is such a majestic monster, and it has great music to boot. My tri bias is showing, but even though it wasn't the most interesting fight, I still love it a lot and would love for it to get another chance in a game where water combat could be so much better.
Now for non-water monsters! I'm hoping for lots of monsters with less used skeletons, and ones that would play around in detailed environments in a fun way. To make the environments feel complete, a diverse cast of monsters will be key. As a result, a lot of my choices are Frontier MonstersSome of my top choices include:
Malfestio: a beautiful monster, and an extremely unique one! I would love to see it make a return, and I think it would really stand out in any monster hunter roster.
Kecha Wacha: really just a funky monster. Weird and memorable, and I think it feels distinct enough from any other monsters to be a worthwhile addition.
Qurupeco: Not only does it look unique, the ability to summon othe large monsters to its location is super interesting, often annoying, and a really unique behavior.
Nerscylla: a giant spider just feels like a surprising monster to not use more often. With how big the "small monster" insects are, it makes sense that there are big spiders around! I honestly just want to see more insectoid/arachnid-like monsters in general. They already have some neat ones, but it feels like they get put on the back burner a lot. On that note...
Seltas Queen and Seltas: a duo! Not many monsters in the series actually function as a duo together in combat, and there definitely aren't any in the main series on the level of these two. Monsters that interact like this are fun, and it feels... not necessarily more realistic, but definitely better than, say, Rathian and Rathalos just sort of beating each other up on accident while both trying to fight you.
Najarala: I think more monsters that feel snake-like would be fun, and Najarala is a good option. It's scales and sound based attacks are cool, and I just like how it looks.
Tetsucabra: the giant tusks and bright colors make it really striking, visually. Plus, there's not many frog-like monsters! Also, I love the armor for Tetsucabra.
Zamtrios: on the topic of frog-like monsters, this one is somewhere between frog and shark! With three different forms it can switch between in battle, it's a really fun fight with a lot of variety. I'd also like to see this guy maybe get a chance to try out underwater combat, but I can live without that for Zamtrios, it already does so much on land.
Bulldrome: A nice low level large monster that would still add a bit of variety to things! A bit annoying to fight at times, but I think it would just work nicely in a game with more focus on the natural aspects of thing.
Nibblesnarf: a really funky looking monster, and one that would be cool to have in that desert from the trailer. Being able to feed it bombs when it charges you is a fun bit of its fight, and I think seeing it ambush small monsters while you explore the desert would be just the right amount of cool and concerning.
Namielle: Genuinely, the fact that Namielle was introduced in a game that gave it almost no attention whatsoever pains me. What a cool elder dragon. It has that deep sea bioluminescent look, and it's fight felt so distinctive.
Gigginox: The little giggi spawner egg sacs it lays are a neat little hazard, and I think Gigginox is just a really distinct looking monster. I personally prefer it to Khezu, but that's purely personal preference. I feel like Gigginox is a fun cave dweller, and a bit more interesting than Khezu is to me.
Gammoth: PLEASE capcom you give us the rest of the fated four but not my BOY? IN THE GAME WITH ADDED VERTICALITY IN COMBAT? This big guy could have been so fun but you are simply cowards who hate him and me.
I decided to make a separate list of Frontier monsters, as well as Monster Hunter Online monsters! These ones are always less likely to make it into a main game, if they stand a chance at all, but still. Frontier's particular penchant for unique monster gimmicks lead to a lot of options with distinct appearances, and abilities that could make use of the environment in fun ways, and generally I would just like to see some monsters that haven't gotten to shine much in the main series. Frontier and Online monsters I would like to see:
Forokururu: a large, hummingbird-esque monster that gains different buffs and abilities based on what color of flower it drinks from. This gimmick would be such a fun way for a monster to interact with the world, plus this is one of my personal top choices, and a monster I would kill to be able to fight for myself.
Baruragaru: the blood sucking ability, which is somewhat similar to Forokururu's nectar drinking in function, would be really fun! I live when monsters have abilities that affect or are affected by other monsters. It makes them feel less like things that happen to be in the same space and more like creatures sharing an environment.
Pokaradon: the only monster that looks like a walrus/seal, so a good way to give a diverse monster roster! This is a monster I would love to see given a shot at underwater combat.
Akura Vashimu: a scorpion! This falls into me wanting more arachnid/insect-like monsters in the games, just to help round out the roster. We have so many reptile and mammal-like monsters, I think more monsters like this one would help things feel more varied.
Caeserber: a big beaver monster could have some really fun environmental interactions! Chewing down trees and building dams would be a really fun behavior to see play out, but even if that's too much, just seeing beaver dams could make the world feel a bit more connected to the monsters. This one is from Online.
Tartaronis: another Online monster, this is an elder dragon that inhabits a desert area and has a body shape similar to a sea turtle! Thinking about it, it feels so odd that we don't have more distinctly turtle-like monsters in this series.
I don't expect to see most, if any, of these monsters in the game. I would love to, as I think all of them would be fun additions, especially for newer players who may not have gotten the chance to fight a lot of these monsters yet. I hope to see a lot of them, especially certain ones that I think can really add a lot to an area, but I don't expect it. Just like I hope for water combat to return, but don't expect it. Either way, I'm already really excited for this game. I may have my gripes about every Monster Hunter game, but I would never say they disappoint me. Even if my assumptions about this game are wrong, I expect to have a lot of fun playing it, and I can't wait to get a good look at any and all new monsters it brings to the series!

What’s something that you’ve wanted to rant/info-dump/talk about but haven’t gotten the chance to? (It can be anything games, shows, other media, or even personal stuff)
Ohoho ive got a rant locked and loaded (sry this took a while i just had to think of something) ok SO a proper rant i have is when "open world" or otherwise "environment focused" game makes all these pretty trees and stuff, then fails to provide any small critters that dont have any immediate gameplay value. My primary examples are going to be Monster Hunter: World, Monster Hunter: Rise, and Deep Rock Galactic just cause those are my primary experience. When games dont have little creatures going through their forests or caves it makes the worlds feel so much more dead. Rise suffers from this immensely, with the only creatures that arent aggressive being collectable bugs, creatures to be culled for resources, and a couple endemic creatures which are literally just there for achievement hunting. Comparing this directly to World, which has all sorts of little creatures about, and it makes such a stark contrast in how the maps feel. Rise maps feel dead and empty, which world maps actually feel like habitats. Having non hostile creatures is also something that helps Deep Rock Galactic a TON with it's worldbuilding. DRG is literally multiple flavors of cave, so one of the defining factors of each cave is what wildlife is in it. Having the funky little jellyfish flying by harmlessly, or the various mushrooms and landlocked creatures in the cave makes the environments actually feel alive. TL;DR: I would take 10000 low poly and low res worlds with funky little critters in them over the high res worlds that feel empty.

Back from Supanova Melb and had a great time 🥳🥳 Thank you to everyone who visited my humble little booth!
I'm happy to announce that I managed to sell the whole remaining stock of my SetsuPomu comic! 🎉🎉
I also feel confident enough to organise another print run in the future as well for anyone who missed the initial run!
It was my very first time tabling at a con so I didn't really know what to expect? I didn't bring many goods. Just those shikishis that I've been working on over the year and some of my remaining books that were spares. I could only bring a small number of books because they're really heavy and I'm weak and pathetic 😔
I didn't think the low book stock would be a problem going in because I kinda assumed they wouldn't sell? Love Live Nijigasaki doesn't have a huge presence locally so my expectations weren't set high. I would've been happy to sell a single copy honestly 😅
So when I did sell that first copy I was super surprised! I'm so sorry to the one who bought that first book! I was acting a bit weird bc I was just in disbelief that someone wanted to buy the comic ahahhah
I was like "Huh??? You want to buy it???? Huh???? For real???"
I seriously didn't think I'd sell the rest of the remaining stock. Sure I only had like 10-15 books leftover from the online sales but I only brought 5 books on the first day!!! I ended up leaving the con early and scurrying home to pick up more. And that commute was about 2 hours so it was super exhausting (esp since my day began at 6am 😅)
I'm still super surprised that people actually bought my book! Like ???? All sorts of people too. Both fans of Love Live! and people who had no context of the series. Different demographics too! Again, I'm so thankful for the support!
It was nice seeing that there were still LL fans in Melbourne as well. Love Live! is a bit rare to see in artist alleys these days, so a lot of people stopped by to mention they were Love Live fans 😊
Most people were Muse or Aqours fans and didn't make any purchases but I was still happy to meet them. Again, it's nice knowing there are other LL fans around!
I'm also pleased to announce that there are at least 5 Setsuna Yuki fans in Melbourne...! (Including me...) As well as Nijigasaki fans 🎉🎉
One person was wearing a Dive! long sleeve and I was like !!!! I have the exact same top at home 😭😭😭 I respect it!!! I also know that it's expensive as hell to export so I doubly respect it 🥲
I definitely want to keep representing Nijigaku at cons 💪!!
It's also worth noting that this con was a general pop culture con. So the audience is more mixed with Western pop culture. It made finding those LL fans extra surprising!
During the day I had a lot of time to burn. While I'm happy with the outcome of the con, it's not like I made tons of sales. My store only has a small amount of stock for a niche (compared to having a million prints and little knick knacks) so it's pretty expected. But yes, I was just idling for a lot of it.
I did end up drawing some quick shikishi on the spot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ended up selling Rathalos and Yu! (Mizuki is looking for a home still.) I was also asked if I was taking shikishi commissions which feeds my ego, but I did end up rejecting bc I didn't feel confident enough with these quick ones to take commissions just yet. (In general I reject commissions anyways bc I'm not great at them...)
A neat thing is that taking the hour do draw that one Rathalos drew some Monster Hunter fans to the table! I managed to have a few little conversations about the game bc of that. I think I'll make more MH shikishi in the future since it's fun to draw. It's also funny to think about my booth becoming LL x MH since the communities are pretty different 😂😂
Overall, I think the con was a success! I have a bunch of cute stories to tell but I think I'll leave it for another post. Financially, I did end up making back all of my expenses! So that's a success in that front as well.
I'd like to do more cons in the future! But honestly it's a little hard for me to be accepted as I tend to make really little content. (Just a few books and shikishi). I think I can only really do half tables...
But I'll do my best!
Once again, thanks to everyone who visited!
Stay tuned for my shop updating to include all the spare goodies. Now that this con is over I can sell them online 🥳

I've been desperate for monster taming games and have tried out a bunch
I find palworld is actually the closest to what I actually wanted
The creatures in ark are less like creatures and more like tools, they don't get any sort of personality or care, and the gameplay itself is designed to be an agonizing slog for the sake of rust like pvp
Every other game leans too much into trying to be pokemon and are just turn based rpgs which are not fun at all for me
I like being able to pet and pamper my animals and I like traveling with them and how they help you; i love how the game isn't excessively grindy, so many aspects of the gameplay resolve tons of irritating issues I've had with the games they're inspired from! I love most of the designs, i am a fan of pokemon redesigns, fakemon, and fusions, and as an artist some are just better designs than the original pokemon they're ripping from. People don't even know that their art team is the largest part of their staff.
The game is ugly, buggy, derivative; i don't trust the company but neither do i trust any game company. It really does combine elements of games I have played in a smooth way that works out better than the original game
This is a long ask so imma number my points. The tone of this isnt argumentative im just responding as i read your ask c:
1) Like i said i dont care if people play it. I hope people get their 30 bucks worth of fun
2) Technically Pokemon itself was just a more streamlined version of Megami Tensei. so something being turn based is neither bad nor indicative of being a pokemon rip off altho thats likely what a lot of people know. Like Cassette Beasts like yeah im sure theres some pokemon flavor to it but i dont think its nearly as derivative as palworld imo. Again no beef just, like their whole thing is it being pokemon with guns.
3) One of the accusations was that they stole fakemon fanart from small artists which if true is not cool but some of the pals have been neat. I havent really delved too deep into every bit about the controversies
4) Im sure theres passionate folks working on it just like im sure devs at gamefreak give it their all
5) im a lifelong pokemon fan but i sold my copy of violet because like the characters are fun and all but i found it not enjoyable to play. I feel the environments should be more stylized. Also it kept crashing for me idk if theyve fixed that but the pokemon company has way too harsh time mandates for gamefreak like give them a year or two more for development.
6) the company is sketchy but i mean so is the pokemon company so...
Some monster tamer games I love and recommend in case you or anyone is curious
-------
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince
Shin Megami Tensei V
World of Final Fantasy
Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance (i mean its sort of qualifies in the genre but i like it)
Cassette Beasts
Monster Hunter Stories
-----
But yeah hope youre having fun anon

I have to ask about SIG for the WIP game. Is it an acronym? Something else? I need more deets
WIP Game Here
😉 I think you're pretty well acquainted with this one lol
SIG - So It Goes
I don't really have any new snippets or anything to share at this point, apart from what I had earlier. But I figured this'd be a good opportunity to share some behind the scenes for this one. So here goes!
There's been three different plot threads I've been juggling throughout this thing. A-plot (which is the main events of the game, V trying to solve their relic problem), B-plot (the romance), and C-plot (for conspiracy). It's been an entertaining challenge weaving these three threads together, and also expanding on things that I wish had been included in the game. But I'm very excited about getting to the end of this thing so I can put a bow on this horrible magic trick.
One of my favorite sections to work on was probably chapters 16-22. Largely B-plot with a little bit of C-plot mixed in. For me, it was an interesting way to have Grandpa and River get to know each other better in a way that I think we didn't get enough of in the game, and I'm really proud that I also managed to expand the whole Monster Hunter gig (the one with Jotaro Shobo, which was pretty short) out with just the shards you pick up around town. Because there are a shit ton of them. Like the human trafficking situation in NC is bad, but finding out literally one sick bastard is fueling so much of it, on top of finding out how many other people were involved was crazy. But all the characters that were involved and the details I included in this part of the story were all inspired by and taken straight from the game.
Jacob Miller (the murdered media River and Han were investigating), dead NPC you can find under the Gold Beach Pier in Wellsprings. Callum Black (the cop that V and River end up kidnapping and interrogating), name dropped in the messages you get off Jacob and also, presumably, the one who killed him, since Jacob was trying to blackmail him. David Beemer (the detective that V and River made a house call too), NPC from one of the NCPD scanner gigs. You can deal with him and find out he's been working with the Scavs and SoCal border patrol. Jerry Fawlter, corrupt NCPD Commissioner was name-dropped in several shards you find in Northside. (I know everyone was excited about the celebs at the party in PL, but man, I was so excited to see Jerry. Evil middle-manager in a suit got to be a real NPC!)
One of the main reasons I love this games so much, is just how detailed and interconnected it all is. And all of that was a tiny piece of it. Like they didn't have to go this hard, but they did. And you don't put that much detail in for no reason. It's been a lot of fun tickling my brain playing connect the dots and puzzling all of this out.
Thanks for the ask!🧡

Is there anything in particular about New Orleans that has drawn your eye for use as a domain?
yeah there's a whole bunch!!
i read this book a few years ago, the new orleans voodoo handbook by kenaz filan, about the history of nola through the lens of new orleans voudou, and how as both a faith and a practice derived from those of haitian immigrants to the city, these folk magics are really inextricable from the history of the city overall. im really interested in what voudou means to those who practice it and am captivated by the idea of like, what is life like for kinfolk in a city where there IS belief in the supernatural baked into the history of the city itself? what does that mean for the masquerade?
in vtm canon nola is important to a bunch of different splats; obviously there's a significant kindred presence, especially in the french quarter; the garou have considerable uktena/glass walker/bone gnawer populations, and there's a black spiral dancer and a pentex base there; the mages have two competing chantries and strong technocracy roots; it's a hotbed of glamour for kithain and under the banner of the unseelie court; there are soooooo many wraiths and a large piercers of the veil chapter; and given all the monsters running around, there's a hefty hunter presence and one of the oldest society of leopold cenacula in north america
a lot of vtm games seem to skew pretty white american/european, and while there's a ton of french influence in nola there's also a bunch of really interesting haitian, caribbean, and african american history and mythos to delve into. from what ive seen so far (unsurprising from white wolf) a lot of the canon lore re: voudou and african vampires is super racist so we're gonna retcon that shit real hard.
nola doesn't have an extensive underground sewer system, so the nosferatu warrens are not traditional warrens and i get to figure out a fun alternative for that!
in canon nola hurricane katrina decimated the local kindred population, along with the rest of the city. irl katrina obviously had an impact on nola still felt to this day and i think there's a lot of interesting material to work with there too. what was it like for kine vs kindred vs other kinfolk during that time? how has that history shaped the way supernaturals get by in nola? how did power dynamics shift in the city as a result? and so on
mardi gras/carnival. can you imagine

My family and I have been watching and loving the Lockwood & Co series on Netflix (and have the books coming in soon). My oldest - a Masks veteran, sees a ton of parallels between Mask moves and the action in the show, and longed for a game focused on the sort of eldritch investigation, but with the personal drama that a game like Masks or Monsterhearts or the like can bring. Any suggestions?
THEME: Eldritch Investigative Drama
Hello friend, you’re definitely describing one of the highlights of the Powered by the Apocalypse system. It’s probably not surprising that so many of my recommendations are PbtA!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sunset Kills, by Hedgemaze Press.
Sunset Kills is a tabletop roleplaying game about a family or group of friends who investigate supernatural mysteries and fight the monsters trying to take over their town. It’s a little bit horror, a little bit drama, and a little bit campy comedy in the vein of shows like Charmed and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Sunset Kills uses a simplified version of the Apocalypse World system, perfect for new players or those new to Powered by the Apocalypse-style games.
This may be advertised as a great game for new players, although some prior GM experience with PbtA is probably going to be useful. This game is primarily focused on monster-killing shows like Buffy and (with the inclusion of my Stranger Hills playbooks), Stranger Things. However, if your characters end up getting mixed up in some kind of eldritch conspiracy instead, you might be able to pull upon each character’s Keys to cause all kinds of drama.
UnHaunt This House, by Kristen Chin.
Unhaunt This House is a haunt-busting tabletop game where you play spectre-hunters traversing a distorted nightmare building to find the source of the haunting.
Snoop around the haunt, dodge shifting architecture or spectral inhabitants and gather clues to make the Final Pronouncement that might dispel the Haunt's ectoplasmic epicentre.
Built on the Down We Go system, Unhaunt this House also takes cues from Brindlewood Bay and Paranormal Inc.This style of game is more on-the-nose in representing ghost hunters, although it’s OSR history means that it doesn’t come with as many mechanics to replicate drama. The closest you might get to drama is the fatal flaw that plagues each hunter: what is it that may be your downfall? You might have to do a bit of home brewing if you want something to replicate the drama that can unfold between a number of hunters exploring a nightmare building.
Moonlight on Roseville Beach, by R.Rook Studio.
Queer pulp meets cosmic horror!
It's 1979 and you're spending  the summer working in Roseville Beach, the queerest little town on Rose Island. You might have come here looking for an escape, some fun, a little extra money, or even love, but now people are seeing phantasms, strange animals—and stranger old gods—wander the woods, mysterious monoliths appear randomly, and that strange music is coming from somewhere.
The drama of Moonlight on Roseville Beach is baked into the setting. As outcasts compared to the outside society, the folks of Roseville Beach can’t depend on outside law enforcement to deal with their problems, so when supernatural entities start to trouble your loved ones, you have to spend on yourselves. Your characters will have Troubles - people they’re indebted to, hiding from, trying to impress, or more. They’ll also have NPC allies and each-other to depend on.
As Roseville Beach expects many interpersonal interactions, it can be easy to dive into uncomfortable territory. The game recommends that players sit down and discuss Lines and Veils before beginning play.
Gunmetal Sonata, by Ashley “Winged” Moni.
Besides the world we know lie a myriad continuum of others, full of places and creatures that fill the world’s myths and legends. Life has gotten a lot more manageable in the last few millennia, but the occasional intruder still steps across the threshold to do innocents harm.
You’re one of a long, loose fraternity of people around the world who’re both in-the-know and capable of doing something about it. You wear a lot of hats: you’re a soldier, a hunter, a detective, a scientist, a sheriff.
You’re a slayer. It’s a living.
Gunmetal Sonata is an urban fantasy RPG about monster hunting millennials tracking and slaying threats to humanity through a system that splits between noir investigation and highly-stylized anime action. It is inspired by PbtA and FitD games.
When it comes to interpersonal connections, Gunmetal Sonata includes a Trust track for each player, to increase over play. Each player also has a Promise, whether that be a personal goal or a commitment to a power outside themselves. Promises will give you power, but at a cost they can cause Stress, and wear down your emotions. This game is currently still in the design process, but future iterations intend to have Arcs, which will be personal stories that directly tie you into the plot.
The Between, by The Gauntlet.
The Betweenis a tabletop roleplaying game about a group of mysterious monster hunters in Victorian-era London. They are residents of a place called Hargrave House, and their job is to investigate and neutralize monstrous threats terrorizing the city—threats that Scotland Yard won’t or can’t handle themselves. As the story progresses, they become aware of the plans of a Moriarty-style criminal mastermind they will eventually have to face in order to save Queen and country.
The Betweenis directly inspired by the gothic horror TV show Penny Dreadful, but also takes a lot of inspiration from British horror classics, graphic novels like From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and pulp-era stories. Mechanically, it’s Powered by the Apocalypse but also uses the mystery system from Brindlewood Bay.
This is a great game if you are looking for something to spook you. It’s also set in a Victorian-era setting, so the world feels darker and older. Your characters will depend on their backgrounds and personal struggles to help them navigate through this world of darkness and conspiracy. The Between comes with a number of scenarios to put your characters through, great for GM’s who don’t have time to write up an entire story from scratch or newer GM’s who want a bit of help exploring the possibilities of this game.
Paranormal Inc, by Alicia Furness Productions.
One day, the dead started returning to haunt the living. This was, as you would expect, somewhat disruptive to society. People started looking for ways to get rid of the ghost nuisance in their lives. Requests for paranormal investigators sky-rocketed.
But times change. People adapt. Now, you are a struggling paranormal investigator with Paranormal Inc. doing your best to keep the equipment working, the lights on, and your belly full.
Paranormal Inc. is a game about solving mysteries, struggling under capitalism, and making connections with living and dead alike. It's a game about pushing through your own personal hauntings to help others.
This game most closely aligns with the theme of ghost-hunting, although your investigators aren’t necessarily hunting ghosts so much as solving mysteries. You won’t know what the answer to the mystery is at the beginning of play - you’ll discover it collaboratively, as Paranormal Inc is GM-less. This game is Carved from Brindlewood, but it’s parent game is heavily inspired by PbtA games, so expect character connections that mean something.
Monster of the Week, by Evil Hat.
Most people don’t believe in monsters, but you know the truth. They’re real, and it’s your task to bring them down. Monster of the Week brings that adventure to life.
Monster of the Week is a standalone action-horror RPG for 3-5 people. Hunt high school beasties a la Buffy the Vampire Slayer, travel the country to bring down unnatural creatures like the Winchester brothers of Supernatural, or head up the government investigation like Mulder and Scully. This book contains everything you need to tackle Bigfoot, collar a chupacabra, and drive away demons.
Monster of the Week is a well-loved, well celebrated monster-hunting game about kicking monster butt, taking care of friends, and getting answers to things that want to be hidden. If you want to get a taste of what this game can do, I’d recommend Monster Hour, a Monster-of-the-Week podcast that keeps the players involved and continuously falling into larger and larger problems.
Apocalypse Keys, by Rae Nedjadi.
As an Omen class monster, you are the only thing capable of holding back the apocalypse. Combat occult threats and investigate supernatural phenomena alongside your team of supernatural agents working for the shadowy DIVISION. But in a world that shuns monsters like you, only your deepest, most heartfelt bonds can grant you the power to stop those who seek to unlock Doom’s Door.
The apocalypse draws near. There are Keys to find, Mysteries to solve, Doors to unlock, and ruthless Harbingers to battle. It’s time to face your fears or become fear itself.
This is the game I think of when I think of messy drama. You’re monsters with great responsibility, great power, and a great opportunity to lose everything you care about. The game will push you towards caring about something or someone, while battling a piece of you that threatens to take that away.
Alongside moves such as Unleash the Dark, which encourages manipulation and harm, you can also Reveal Your Heart to someone in a moment of vulnerability. The organization, DIVISION, is a great resource, but it’s also a strict overlord, and its true nature will only be figured out through play, as players answer questions about it. If you want a game that’s full of action and intrigue, while also pulling at your emotional heart-strings, I strongly recommend Apocalypse Keys.

All The Owl House Lore
That I can remember at the moment, until Watching and Dreaming, Spoilers
A long time ago, there was a species that lived on the Boiling Isles called Titans. Four Collectors (and one baby Collector) came from the stars to collect and control their species, but the Titans fought back which led to the Collectors pretending to dress as Titans to kill them all because the Titan’s magic cancelled their magic out (inspiring the Titan trappers). The Collectors also trap creatures and turn them into scrolls, which is what happened to the Owl Beast. However, the final Titan protected it’s egg and locked the baby Collector in the In-between. In the 1600s, a witch named Evelyn found her way into the Human Realm, likely using Titan’s blood, which creates portals between the worlds. She met Caleb Wittebane, who had recently moved to Gravesfield after being orphaned. The brothers had a good relationship, and Caleb, who did a lot of wood working created Philip’s mask which he would continue to wear for a long time. They would play a game where Caleb would dress as a witch and Philip would be a witch hunter. Caleb didn’t agree with the practices of Gravesfield and they soon became friends and eventually partners, leaving messages in code for each other. They create a symbol together that is a bird that looks like a branch, and Evelyn either gives or creates Flapjack for Caleb, or he was a shared Palisman. At some point, the building which is now the Historical Society caught fire which is implied to have caused Caleb to flee to the Boiling Isles where he lived somewhere outside of Boneborough with his wife. His brother, Philip (our ... favorite unreliable narrator, came after him and wrote a bunch of information about the Isles in his journal and also his attempts at returning home. Philip carved glyphs on his arm, which caused him to transform into a monster. He approached Caleb alone and Caleb, seeing his monster form, accepted him. At some point they met up again, now with Evelyn. Philip attacked them, likely attacking Evelyn and their baby. This is likely when Flapjack got his scar and Evelyn hid the portal. Caleb tried to talk him down, but at some point it was just the two of them and Caleb was stabbed. Philip sat nearby and watched him bleed out, and then Evelyn returned, cursing Philip as he ran away. At some point Philip got ahold of Caleb’s body, and took him to the cave under the skull of the Titan where Philip eventually started working out of. He did at least four experiments with Caleb’s body before he met Luz. Caleb’s remains are still there. Philip came back to Boneborough, trying to get help, which is where he met Luz Noceda and Lilith Clawthorne. He thought he could con them, but Lilith catches on to him and in the end she punches him in the face, breaking his nose, not before Luz helped him find the Collector’s disk. Now that he has the Collector, Philip is starting to see his plans realized, and the cut on his nose turns green and his voice begins changing. Philip changes his name to Belos and creates his first few Grimwalkers, taking on his preacher persona. At some point he goes to the knee, begins experiments for the Day of Unity, and has a Grimwalker blow up a town which is the same destroyed town in season 1. Eventually he rises to power, establishes the coven system, and gains control of the Boiling Isles.  After Flapjack was injured or perhaps after Evelyn died, Flapjack ended up in the care of the Bat Queen, a Palisman who protects Palismen from harm. Her owner is missing but she thought it was a giant, and Luz promised to help her find them, but unfortunately we might never know due to time. This is where Flapjack stays until he meets Luz!
I probably missed some, there’s a ton of lore. I didn’t mention Darius and his relationship to the Golden Guards or Hagsquad lore or Manny or Cosmic Frontier and a lot of other stuff but this is just the general detailed lore we have from the best of my ability! :D

based on your recent post
what is your favourite video game boss by animations specifically?
if you want nore questions
also:
by how fun they are to fight?
and
by how interesting/unique their mechanics are
hope this isnt unwelcome
i have a ton but the first one that i could think of was xeno'jiva from monster hunter world..... first of all it looks badass. second of all its a baby dragon killing everything with its epic lazer powers it doesnt exactly know how to control and thats kinda funny. but also, since im assuming animations can be read as either "looks visually pleasing" or "is animated in a way that is notable or unique to other things of its type", i was always charmed by how they put a lot of effort into making the dragon stumble around a lot like its actually a brand new lifeform who is fucking terrified and barely has the proper coordination to put one foot in front of the other
Tumblr media
^ awesome dragon
also the fight sucked because the hitboxes were kind of terrible . mechanics are exactly what youd expect of a lazer dragon throwing a tantrum (i remember making a post a long time ago about the similarities between it and darkeater midir) .
still swag

Princess Peach: Showtime Demo! - More than Just Cute Outfits!
Today l'll be talking about the demo for:Princess Peach: Showtime!
Tumblr media
Yeah, I know this is not a 'Fashion Game', But I make the rules here! Also I think even the 'ideas' here are worth talking about, as well as the gameplay! The demo is free, so I'd really recommend checking it out for yourselves if you're interested, but if you're interested in my commentary with a few personal connections, feel free to stick around! --- Alright, so first off, I've never really had any strong connections or feeling about peach as a character before playing this. She was just another Mario character to me, and did not really represent or stand for anything. I remembered hearing she first got her own spin-off game on the DS, "Super Princess Peach" (2005) where her actions are powered by various emotions, people often described it as "the game where one of her powers is crying:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, it was still very much just a platforming game, so it did not really stand out for me. This game however is a lot more difficult to categorize:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess the easiest way to describe it would be an 'Adventure Game', You'll be given various challenges, based on the level, there is some combat as well as mini-game style activities, and each level with have multiple activities, so it's not like "just do one baking mini game, then move on to the next level.
Tumblr media
There's combat, even if it's very simplistic, I still find it enjoyable. You have a jump button, and a single button that does everything else, attacking, dodging, counter hits, etc. But you'll have a health bar to manage, and enemies may have invulnerability phases, so while it's simplistic, the game by no means 'plays it'self' some level of interaction is still required.
Tumblr media
The Mini-games are also simplistic, but do allow you to mess up, they also have a 'soft failure state' so the time limit does matter, and you can actually fail the event, and will be required to retry.
Tumblr media
Most gamers would not consider this game difficult, or challenging to any degree, but unlike some other 'cute games' it dose actually offer some form of push back, and I think that makes it more rewarding! --- Ok, Now with gameplay out of the way, I'd like to talk about the game's ascetics. It's clear that making the game as cute and charming as possible was a core design decision. And this is shown from the very start when they make a change to peach's default hairstyle:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I actually see written out in my notes "Don't spend multiple paragraphs talking about peach's new ponytail", So I'll have to keep this short, I think it's a great addition, for a long time I just saw the concept of a "ponytail" as something exclusively reserved for very young people, that's how it was mainly shown in western media. So I was surprised when a lot of Japanese games gave it as an option for adult characters, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy XIV, and tons more had it as part of the character creator. And while it's not the style I generally go with for my own characters, I've come to embrace the idea, and see how it can be a cute or fun additional to a character design regardless of their age. And I think it works really well here, especially as it offers great secondary motion:
Tumblr media
I'm sure there are plenty of ways to interpret Peach's last game, using emotion as peach's own real actions. But I vastly prefer this game's ideas, the whole idea is someone's ruining all the plays, and corrupting them and the participates with negativity, and you fight back with positivity and encouragement!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When things start to get dark, and the characters' perspective change. But Giving them hope (by attacking them :P) you're able to help them push through.
Tumblr media
When I first saw this game's trailer, I though it was just an excuse to put peach in various cute outfit, and (I have no problem with that), but it seemed to lack any real substance But overall, I really enjoyed this short demo, You get cute outfits, a very pleasant world, and a nice theme! The game is just full of charm, and there is just so much detail in the background characters, and even the idle animations,
Tumblr media
So I'll probably pick it up regardless of the game length, it's just really nice. I probably won't blog about like I do with style savvy.
Tumblr media
(Screenshot from the nintendo store page NOT IN THE DEMO) It looks like the full game may offer some unlockables and a little customization, so that could be fun! At $60, It's a bit on the pricey side, so I may end up buying the JP version on play asia to save a little money (~$40) But much like Style Savvy, I really enjoy the variety of outfits, and how it shows that style is more than just one thing, and how various outfits can impart various different moods and feelings.
Tumblr media
--- Alright, that's my main thoughts on my small sampling of the game, but feel free to stick around for my added personal notes! ---- /!\ Caution: End of Cute screenshots, Mostly unedited Ramblings beyond this point /!\
So I've been thinking a lot about the concept of 'Cute' in general, to some people, this may seem like an odd thing to think about, But if you've followed my blog for a while, you'll probably understand why. But regardless, I've started to get over the weird feelings of being a guy playing 'cute games', but one of the things I was still trying to figure out was where my own perspective of 'cute' lies when it comes to characters. I have no trouble designing cute outfits for others in style savvy, and I do really like a lot of cute designs, but when it comes to created characters that I plan to stick with long term, it's not really a style I focus on, generally leaning more towards Bold/Rock or even Elegant/Feminine Styles.
For a while, I thought I was subconsciously avoiding anything 'cute', and that I needed to 'fix that' or something. But recently I've been learning a lot about the different ways you can 'like something', You can find something nice because you relate to it, you could like how neat and organized it looks, or you could even really like the feelings it evokes. And I think this was the missing piece and understanding how I relate to various types of fashion. As silly as it sounds, I was not even aware there was an option to like different styles for different reasons. For example: I now know that I do like the 'cute' ascetic, for character designs, outfits, and tone. However, it's not really something I'm drawn to, or relate with. So if something looks 'cute', it may receive bonus points in my brain over something plain, and it can offer a bit of a relaxing feeling.
The Cool/Bold Style has a much bigger draw for me, and as such, when I'm making my own character (especially in a multiplayer game), and want to stand out, this is what I go for. I love the energy it gives off, and playing character that look cool, make me feel cool as well! as such, I'd have to say it's my favorite to use. Elegant/Feminine Style: I still don't really have my exact feels on this nailed down yet. But I really enjoy the flexibility it provides. It offers a lot of what I like about the 'bold' and 'cute' styles, without being too loud or aggressive, you can make this style as mature as you want, or add a more youthful edge, And it can look a bit simplistic, or very stylized. This refined style honestly feels like it has endless potential, yet I have the hardest time designing for it, but it's probably my favorite to experience others interoperation of.
--- Alright, hopefully that was still a fun read, and not 'too personal' . As always, any comments/critique are welcome!

I saw you were taking asks? I have a few questions I'd love to hear your answers.
What is your favorite side ark in the fossil fighters games?
Favorite characters/character dynamics?
Not a question, but I would love to hear about your personal headcannons about characters and such.
Have you ever thought about Dinaurian lore?
I'd love to hear all your thoughts on this, it's so rare that anyone has anything to say about the games. If you don't answer all (or any of them) that's totally fine! ^^
Hiya!! This got a bit long so here's the cut-off:
Favorite side ark in the fossil fighters games?
Oh gosh it's hard to decide because two certain arks are my favorite: The Nick Nack ark in the original and the Princess Pooch ark in Champions.
I feel like they mix in just the right amount of zany with plot progression to feel both fun and important errands! Princess Pooch's helps with unlocking the Miraculous Fossils and keeps the weird lore of dogs being intelligent enough to Fossil Battle from the first game and Nick Nack's even ties in Dr. Diggin's lost sandals. Nick Nack also has one of the most memorable themes lol.
Favorite characters/character dynamics?
Dynamic-wise: Hands down, the BB Brigade in Champions. They play off of each other so well and (even though I think their writing with Don/Joe is flawed) I wish we could have seen them more with Joe after the main story!!! The Patrol Team even has a great dynamic that is very fleshed out by the end of the game. I'm even enjoying Becky and Sean's sibling relationship in Frontier at the moment. Also, I like Dynal's dynamics/interactions with EVERYONE in the original. The guy clearly brings a presence that makes you want to pick at him, especially with Dr. Diggins, Raptin, and Duna.
Characters: OBVIOUSLY Joe Wildwest!!!!!!! Other favorites include Duna, the BB Brigade, Patrol Team, Drake, Violet, and Sean and Becky are growing on me.
Headcannons?
TONS!!!! Oh god UUHHHHH WHERE TO BEGIN-
Stella is takes her job the most seriously but she also wouldn't she she's married to her job of being a Staff Leader. Joe can trust her with almost anything in the park. She's also a lesbian.
Terry and Kent are not as professional as Stella but they still take their job seriously. Terry tends to be more aloof while Kent would rather snowboard. They are Bi but don't really seem interested in dating as they are currently in positions that make it hard to date.
Dr. Diggins was probably really scared to see Dynal again after the Guhnash battle because Dynal is going to learn one way or another that he stole the Dinurian tech from that crashed ship. Dynal eventually is told the truth by him and just goes 'okay' since it's not much of a big deal anymore.
I have this very specific headcannon that curators and just fossil fighters in general who work in museums have to have an impressive cleaning record. The cleaning side quests in the first game and the Hare Club stuff in Champions helped fuel this.
Dino and Dina are fraternal twins! Dino even is Autistic and Dina has ADHD.
Vivosaur battles are really taught in school unlike much other monster collecting and battling games and other RPGs but rather it's treated much like a sport with scientific and historical roles as well. I much tend to think that Hunter and Rosie and other kids on Vivosaur Island are there since it's summer break. The Patrol Team each have their own reasons for getting to be at Caliosteo: Dina and Dino are home-schooled, Todd was able to tag along since he became friends with them for being home-schooled as well, Pauleen probably doesn't get public school and obviously ran off to join the tournament, and Rupert gets his schedule managed by someone else but he probably goes to a tight private school that's flexible with their students being absent for periods of time.
Frontier does make it canon that everything takes place on an Earth similar to our own with the same countries but I chose to believe France doesn't exist. That's Nomadistand now. They're separated far from other countries? Well I guess they have some wide rivers now for borders.
Vivosaurs can be kept as pets but there are many laws and risks that come with it. Smaller vivosaurs are easier to tame but larger ones are more challenging. They're treated much the same as exotic pets: Yeah, it's nice to own one, but it's not very safe.
Nevada and Joe have a rivalry going on that doesn't make much sense to everyone else but it does keep journalists busy whenever a fossil tourney is announced. Sean also ties into this but he's more of the mediator who was invited to eat pizza and watch a documentary with friends not sit awkwardly on the couch and watch as his two friends throw pillows at one another to try and counter-argument each other about the topics of the documentary.
Duna barely remembers much of her home planet but Raptin, being older, does. This is possibly why he was more enraged by Duna's betrayal.
I think Joe and Rupert should get therapy animals/vivosaurs after Champions to help with the body-stealing trauma. As a treat. Rupert should get a fluffy white great pyrenees dog named Antionette and Joe should get a nine-banded armadillo named Sundance.
Rosie gets really into fossil battles to the point she goes pro and that's why she's at Caliosteo. She eventually finds out she'd Bi and dates Duna in the future (Duna finds herself identifying as a lesbian).
^The whole romance thing was kind of just brought on due to the amount of thrilling moments with Hunter so both Rosie and Duna kind of fall out of romantic love with him but still have a tight bond that borders on family.
Hunter also eventually goes pro with fossil battling but prefers to travel more. Rosie and Duna eventually get a quiet house on Vivosaur Island together and Hunter also lives there when he's not traveling. :)
I think Holt and Todd should meet up and be friends. :)
Pauleen would get really into fashion design when she's older. She's mostly inspired by fire type vivosaurs.
Rupert takes over his dad's company and even learns to ride a motorcycle.
Todd gets into rogue vivosaur wrangling since he finally found his courage during the events of Champions. :)
Dina takes over the park and Todd is her secretary.
Dino gets to go pro at fossil battles since he was better at making strategies and vivosaur teams (Dina's top strategy is 'hit everything with sharp claws and teeth really fast') and he gets a lot of trophies. He also gets to be Rupert's boyfriend/partner. :)
Cole gets to go back to school and gets back into his robotic engineering degree (he failed to earn all of his credits the first time around and just decided to drop out since he didn't like his professors anyway). He eventually finds work at FossilDig and Caliosteo making cleaning devices. Sometimes, when he's mad, he threatens to make Five Nights at Freddy's real.
Lola has a harder time deciding to go back to school since she failed her medical science classes. It takes some encouragement and inspiration from Cole and Lester to help her along.
Lester tries to follow his dream of being a musician again and gets to form his own rock band! They call themselves the 'B-0NES' in tribute to the BB Brigade.
Joe Wildwest is gay. :)
Zongazonga's corpse is stuck in eternity as a tourist attraction.
If you want more I leak headcannon stuff onto this workplace parody account on here that's also a bit RP-ish: @realjoewildwest
Have you ever thought about Dinaurian lore?
Actually I have!! I've seen some headcannons floating on here with Dinurians messing with Guhnash's origins. I also think that they also traded with other aliens before they came to Earth since running a huge ship does take a certain amount of supplies to manage. Unsurprisingly, I choose to also believe that nearly every Dinurian can have a battle hologram.
I also think that white-hair can also be a sign of aging but those with white hair and pale skin are usually linked in some way to the royal bloodline that is King Dynal's. It's only Dynal who carries on the royal bloodline these days, however.
When I say 'big space ship' I mean big enough that the Dinurians have a safe gene pool for repopulation methods. It was probably initially made for the purpose of escaping their home planet months in advance since their methods of destroying Guhnash kept failing.

A request that I had a ton of fun doing (read: perhaps too much) - Good Omens but in the Borderlands universe! With additional text below the cut of me waffling lore that should not be scrutinized too closely aha
So for those unfamiliar with Borderlands, the general gist of the game is a space treasure hunt. Planets have Vaults, which are full of treasure/secrets, and they're guarded by monsters. The playable characters are called Vault Hunters, and you're usually battling malicious individuals or corporations long the way. And now for the description that might be confusing for people who haven't played but here I go anyways: So a lot of names in Borderlands are taken from greek mythology, so I chose to create a new mother corporation named Gaia. The idea of Gaia is that it was an older corporation that was originally intended to be a shield manufacturer, not a weapons manufacturer, but a schism within the company came about around the same time they tried to find a foothold on Eden-6, but were beat out by the Jakob's corporation and fell apart into two separate factions. The company's main selling point was a closely-held secret elemental type that they called "grace". Instead of causing a status effect, it's a elemental neutralizer, and causes temporary invulnerability.  Likewise, grace-infused ammo does not have a weakness to shields or armor. Bit of a unstoppable force/immovable object situation between the two sides. However, without the combined might of the Gaia corporation to back either one of them, they're left to use what little remains of the "grace" and continue to try to build up their work forces on either side. Maybe with the treasure of a Vault, they might just succeed? Pandora seems the place to be, in that case... More onto the character design, but so I made two versions for each of them: the pre-schism version of their Gaia outfits, and then post-schism where they've established themselves outside of the company. Aziraphale starts off in soldier gear, based loosely off of Atlas and Dahl fatigues, but with canisters of "grace" attached to his back that are infused into an Oz-kit structure around his neck.
The idea was the two cannisters might look like mounted wings. Speaking of wings, two white arches are main motif of the Gaia corporation, so you'll see them also on the armor plating and logo. Crowley, on the other hand, was much more on the planning and negotiations sides of the company, so he gets decked out in Gaia-approved corporate wear that he can't stand, including wing-tipped shoes, lapels with golden wings embossed on them, and even golden ECHO-eyes.
These outfits then get ripped to Pandora and back.
Aziraphale's fatigues get worn down to the base set, losing most of the armor parts in favor of comfort. He's down to one cannister of grace, but a little goes a long way, and he's become a lot more world-wise since being stationed on Pandora. The feather motif remains along the jacket lining. His class-mod (Guardsman) is his coin-fob on the chain at his belt. Crowley, the edgelord that he is and we love, went full-in for the bandit aesthetic. All that remains of his previous look is the white shirt, now accompanied by significantly more leather and spikes, scaled belts and shoes, and a tiny water-mister full of remaining grace for when he needs to keep things in line. His class-mod would be the snake-charm earring, which would double as a ECHO-drive for the port in his temples. I could so easily make a whole comic based on this premise it's addicting aha
