Young Valentine

A young child’s socked feet silently pattered along the floor, their thin face illuminated by a candle they held carefully in their small hands. Valentine- though they would not be referred to by that name for another many years- could not sleep. Their nights had been restless as of late, and no one around them could discern why, so they had decided nearly every night to leave their sleeping quarters to peruse the vast library their father kept, as they found reading had an almost meditative effect on them, to the point where many times they had awoken with their face pressed into the creases of a book they had been exceedingly engrossed in.

Their father kept mostly books pertaining to his work; property deeds, family histories, histories of the land of France and its neighbors. He was a meticulous man. But, mercifully, he still kept a small stock of books solely meant for entertainment, their covers gilded with the names of kings that may or may not have lived and great adventures they may or may not have gone on. They had fond memories of their mother, in times when she was in better health, sitting them down on her lap and reading ancient Greek plays and Biblical texts to them, it was at some point in these happy afternoons that they had learned to read, though they cannot quite recall when the letters began to weave themselves into words and phrases and sentences and prose on the page before them. But ever since then they had inhaled any book they could get their hands on.

Walking through the shelves, their eyes landed on two thick volumes standing side by side. It was evident that these were two halves of one series, as their candle reflected off of the delicate gold leaf that spiraled across the leather spines to form a latticework of beautiful flowers, framing the title.

“Le Morte d’Arthur.” They whispered into the chill air, letting the words fall from their tongue in wonder. The Death of Arthur.

They felt drawn to the books, and so swept them off the shelf, struggling to balance them in their thin arms while keeping grip on the candlestick.

Back in their room, they laid the first book open on their bed covers, where the first page showed a lovingly detailed illustration of a tall, dark haired woman emerging from a lake, bestowing a smiling, albeit stern looking man with a sword that looked as if it was made from the light of heaven itself. Indeed the creator of this book had gone to the liberty of pasting bits of silver and gold leaf over pieces of the scene, so that they seemed to glow in Valentine’s wide eyes.

Eagerly they turned to the first page, and began to read.

It befell in the days of Uther Pendragon, when he was king of all England, and so reigned, that there was a mighty duke in Cornwall that held war against him long time…

Obey Me! NB boys: Who would most willingly have kids

(Note: NONE of them would ever pressure you into having kids. I'm saying this now so I don't have to repeat it every time.)

1.Beelzebub:

Any surprise here? I can't remember where I saw it, but I do remember seeing somewhere he said he'd love to start a family. If you don't ask him about kids, he might ask you, first. He'd be a great dad, too. He'd be calm, supportive, and his kids would always be well fed and have plenty of exercise. They'd grow up big and strong like him! :) He'd also do that thing when they're little (and when theyre grown, too) where He'd use them as weights to lift up while he does push ups. He'd also carry them on his back everywhere. If it's a baby, he'd be a little tired of having to get up every night to calm their screams, but he'd get used to it because he makes himself a deal: he'll just get a snack every time the baby cries at night. Speaking of if it's a baby, he'd be afraid he'd crush it at first, and refuse to hold them. But once he finally holds them, he refuses to let any stranger hold them. His biggest fear is his child not being safe. Protective Beel! Oh, and they'd get a LOT of visits from uncle Belphie.

2.Mammon

Ok, here me out- he'd essentially be Bandit from Bluey (Dont ask). He'd make sure his kids are clever and he'd most certainly teach them to gamble from a young age, and how to cheat. He'd be very over protective, but also really fun. His worst nightmare is his kids growing up to hate him. He'll never admit it, but he stops cheating so much to earn money. While he wants his kids to grow up learning how to make quick cash, deep down, he just wants them to be good kids. So he also tries to set a good example and work for his money. All his brothers are shocked, and they'll tease him for it. And of course, Mammon being Mammon, will deny deny deny! The brother that baby sits the most for him is probably Lucifer, actually. (He doesn't trust Mammon at first. Jk, he trusts Mammon a lot with this, actually.... mostly)

3. Satan

You may be thinking, 'Pen, you're absolutely stupid and don't know anything about OM!, nor how to write in character', and you may be right, but let me cook!

You see, Satan at first isn't too keen on the idea of a child. All they do is scream and cry shit themselves and eat then cry some more. And when they're a teenager, they'll just sass him. And he does NOT like the idea of that. But all you have to do is appeal. Example:

Tell him to imagine the following: A 4 or 5, maybe even 6 year old boy or girl that's a mini version of him. Running around the house of lamentation, screaming curses about Lucifer, who can't do anything because they're a child who doesn't know any better. They'd be able to get away with anything and he could use that to his advantage. Now he's hooked, and he'll think about it, but despite his hate for poor Luci, he's still aware that it's a lot of responsibility. Which is why you have to reassure him that that's why you'll raise the baby together. Plus, imagine taking the child to the library, reading to them. They get to develop their own personality. Which is when teenhood becomes fun, because it's not about the sass, it's about the fun personality they've developed.

His biggest fear for his child is his child becoming like him. He doesn't want that. He'd prefer his child become like Lucifer than to see himself in his child (though not by a lot) Oh, and he trusts Asmo enough to be super gentle with the child. (Mostly because he threatened to kill Asmo if the baby is hurt) but also because he knows that the baby would be in gentle hands!

4. Lucifer

Lucifer isn't so quick to agree for 2 reasons.

He's always busy, what if he ends up neglecting the child in favor of work? And then you'll end up taking care of the child in its most vital years to have both parents present (though every year is vital to have both parents present). Of course, you'll just reassure him that Diavolo would give him some leave time in favor of raising the baby, and the brothers would help with his work load in the meantime.

2. Ok, but what about his brothers? That's the thing, he feels like he's already a father of 6. He won't be able to look after them as much because a baby is far too much time. They'll be running loose like chickens without heads in no time. You'll have to tell him he'll just have to have faith in his brothers. At first, he scoffs at the idea. But...he thinks about it. And the more he does, the more he agrees. Finally, he'll take you out somewhere private to tell you that he agrees. He wants to have a baby.

His worst fear is his child not feeling like he was present in his life. He already knows what it's like to have someone related to you hate youSatan, so it would be nothing new to him, though it would still hurt. Yet, his worst fear is his child growing up feeling like he was never there for his them. This will result in him constantly switching his attention time during teenage years from super clingy because he wants to be present, to a little distant because he doesn't want to come off as clingy. You better bring it to his attention and help him find a happy medium before your child starts to resent him for this. Oh, and the brother he trusts most to look after his kid is Mammon. This may sound stupid, but we all know Mammon would at least keep the kid alive. (Like Satan, he'll tear Mammon limb from limb if otherwise) but if Mammon isn't present, he'll ask Satan. Though, he can't be surprised if Satan has taught his child how to say 'fuck Lucifer' as one of their first phrases.

5. Asmodeus

Like Satan, he doesn't really want a child for the same reasons. They just cry, they take a lot of time, he won't be able to get his beauty sleep at night, ect. Also like Satan, you'll just have to appeal. Imagine all the cute family photos he can take! Plus, wouldn't the child be beautiful? 'Oh, but what about when they grow up and go through some weird emo phase?' Well, you guys will just have to accept them for that. And when (if) they grow out of the phase, y'all can continue to support them and then finally take family pictures again. And if they never grow out of the goth phase, you'll just have another Belphie. He laughs, and is a little more calm. It takes maybe some few months before he brings up the idea, saying that he thinks he's ready. His biggest fear is his child growing up unloved by their peers, so he tries to dress them up pretty all the time. You might have to remind him to let the child explore their own style for a bit, and he'll reluctantly agree at first, then be very willing later on. He doesn't want people to see his child as anything but pretty, but understands how important it is for the child to have their own style and feel supported for it. But he's keeping all them embarrassing baby photos. And he's definitely showing them off to his child's romantic partner (if they're not aro/ace). The brother he trusts the most to handle his child is Lucifer. He knows the child will be safe. He would pick Satan, but....y'know.

6. Leviathan

For obvious reasons, at first it's a no. He won't be able to play games as much, the baby will always be crying, ect. But you'll have to remind him that it's a team effort, and he won't be the only one taking care of the child. Plus, once the baby grows up, he'll always have someone to play games with. To which he responds they might not like games. You can counter that if they're constantly surrounded by games, they'll become a familiar source of comfort, and they'll likely love games. Same for any cartoon or anime he makes them watch. He'll give you plenty of excuses, but they're all bullshit. His biggest reason(and secret) is he thinks he'll be a horrible, embarrassment of a father. His child won't think he's cool, and might even get bullied a lot. I mean, imagine having some lame Otaku for a father. Sad, right? But just tell him that his child will love him because he's their father, and no matter what, they'll be proud to call him dad, just like you'll be proud to call him their dad. He tears up afterwards, and maybe a while later, he'll shyly approach you and tell you he's ready. He'll pay less attention to video games and anime for a while, but when he gets a break, if he's not sleeping, he's catching up on all the anime. His worst fear is his child becoming lonely like him. So he makes sure the child grows up with a pet of some kind. That way, they'll learn to be social. Oh, and if it's a boy, he'll try his damndest to name him Henry, and if it's a girl, Hana and/or Yuri. The brother he trusts the most is also Lucifer. He would say Beel, but he doesn't want him to eat his child (Beel would never), and he would say Asmo, but he doesn't want to receive an Asmo Jr. Oh, and Mammon isn't allowed near the child.

7. Belphagore

Last, and least surprisingly, Belphie. A child is wayyyyyyy too much responsibility for little old him. Plus, they cry all the time, he wouldn't be able to sleep. I'm not sure if you really could convince him to have a baby. If you did, it would be years in advance before he would agree. I think the best route is to just prove to him that the responsibility will be shared (and worth it), and he could still get sleep from time to time. Which would help. But if y'all ever do have a baby, he'll slack off a lot. You'll probably get into a couple of arguments because you'll be doing most of the work in toddler and infant years. (Most likely to get divorced over the child if y'all are married. Not saying it will happen, though. Just most likely out of the brothers.) Eventually, after ranting to Beel, he'll realize he has been a shit father at first. To the child, and to you. (Thank Beel for getting through to him). Like Beel, his worst fear is his kids not being safe. He really doesn't care how they turn out as long as they're happy and healthy. After he finally starts taking initiative as a parent, he becomes over protective. If its a girl, he sees Lilith in her, and he wont let her go. Obviously, he trusts Beel the most with his kids.

how casually 12 throws out that line, so genuine, i 100% believe it feels true when they say stuff like that, but also bill just had a Bad 6 months. he didnt have to say this. bill asked why he puts up with humans he could say something nice about humanity as a whole, but he doesnt, he singles her out, “i put up with the rest of them because sometimes theres someone like you”. it’s sweet and i dont think it’s a lie and i dont even think it’s a conscious manipulation but like

it’s just like, a really good way to keep people with you when you make them feel like theyre at the centre of the universe like that. the universe revolves around the doctor and when youre in the eye of the storm with them youre so special. you know more than regular people, you get to know all the secrets of the universe, you get to know about aliens, you get to play hero along with them!

being the object of the doctor’s affection is i think probably a bit of a horrifying experience and not a position you really want to be in, but as long as youre still in that Comments About How Theyre Putting Up With All Of Humanity Because They Like You stage and havent yet reached the Tearing The Sky Apart For You stage, it probably feels really good (do i look susceptible to companion syndrome in this post hkfjghj)

and like i said it’s not that they dont actually love their companions. of course they do. it’s just that if youre terrified of being abandoned, making people feel special like this is a good way to make them not leave you

and i think 13 probably did her best not to do this again. she didnt invite them along to new adventures at the end of 11x1. she initiates goodbyes i think three times (”ive stayed too long, i should get back to finding my tardis”, “im almost gonna miss you”, “guess we’re done, nice having you aboard”) before the fam ask to come with her

and sure she plays the kicked puppy a bit in 11x4 but she waits for yaz to invite her, shes relatively passive, actually for the doctor shes incredibly passive. and she enjoys letting them into the tardis in 11x2, but she doesnt tease really secrets and wonders if they come travel with her. she doesnt really introduce them to the tardis, she doesnt say what the name means, she doesnt let them touch anything, nobody says “it’s bigger on the inside”, she doesnt invite them to all of time and space. she doesnt suggest it could be theirs to see. i dont think she ever does. just what the fam got to see accidentally was already enough to convince them.

i really need to rewatch so i might be wrong about this, but i dont think she ever makes them feel special the same way the doctor did with companions before. she makes them feel special like a tour guide maybe, with her little points and stars system, and calling them best friends, small mundane ways that dont show off her age or history or influence. i dont think she ever suggests theyre more important than other people. i think she emphasises her love for humans as a whole. i think thats the impression they get from her. i think thats what they would say if you asked them about her. “yeah she loves humanity. me? yeah she probably likes me, we’re friends”

she never puts them in a position where theyre the only one who can save the day/world/planet/universe. she always puts herself between them and the problem. she always goes ‘no im the doctor, thats my job’. she takes that responsibility so they dont have to. they take it! when they feel like theyre forced to! when the doctor’s gone in 12x2 or 12x10, they take that responsibility for sure. i think they want to, not just yaz but especially yaz. but they feel unprepared. the doctor hasnt prepared them for this bc she doesnt want them in that position bc in that position they die.

and clearly this has not been ideal. this has not led to an ideal doctor-companion dynamic, we’ve seen how this has hurt 13 as well as especially i think yaz and ryan deeply. but the strategy has been succesful. she lost her last two companions bc she didnt get between them and the problem. with bill literally, with clara metaphorically. (going back even further this might also be the case for amy and donna and rose. she let them into positions she should have been in taking decisions she should have taken)

and however badly things have gone for 13, the strategies of Get Between Them And The Problem, and Be The Doctor Dont Let Them Do It, have WORKED. she GOT THEM HOME. if yaz doesnt die, and im willing to bet money she doesnt, she got them all home safe and sound

14′s relationship with their companions will probably be a response to what went wrong in this round and it will have its own pitfalls that 15 then gets to fix but theyre trying, theyre learning. one step forward two steps back i guess. a fun little tango with death

important disclaimer: I look Like That largely thanks to good lighting and the fact that I had a mad pump. I dont look like that 24/7, nobody does. If you remove me from that specific spot under the gym lights and wait 10mins for my pump to disappear Id look entirely Normal.

As for hardgaining, youre not gonna like the answer but - just eat more. We like to think we eat a lot already (because it feels like that, because most of us have tiny stomachs) but if u actually took 1 week to record everything u eat, including its nutritional values (mainly macros - carbs, protein, fats, etc), youd see youre probably lacking and/or eating exactly at maintenance (i.e., maintaining your current weight, nothing less and nothing more). The best way I found for myself to eat more is to split my meals, so instead of eating 3 big meals a day, I eat 5-6 smaller ones, and I make sure each meal contains a decent amount of protein (at least 10g). And yeah I wasnt kidding - record what u eat for just 1 week, itll help u see where/what ur lacking.

As for protein - I dont use powders. I find their texture disgusting and most of them give me stomach issues. Personally I view health and fitness as something I should enjoy so Im not gonna do things that actively make me feel like Im suffering or forcing myself, hence, no powders. You dont even need powder to eat a lot of protein, too. Lots of idiots will tell you you need to eat 1gr of protein per 1lb of bodyweight to get larger, but thats protein powder marketing bs (unless ur like, an olympic athlete). Normal people need around 1.2-1.5g of protein per kg of bodyweight to grow muscle mass, according to almost all studies on the subject (again, unless ur an olympic athlete), so for me, weighing around 55kg, thatd be between 66-85g of protein per day. As I mentioned before, I structure my meals so that each contains at least 10g of protein, so right off the bat I start at 50-60g on avg. My lunch (meal 3 usually) is around 40g on its own (blessed Pork steak & greenbeans), so I easily get to 85g of protein a day, and maybe a lil more. Meat shouldnt be your only source of protein, theres a variety of foods to choose from and if u enjoy cooking then ur gonna have a great time! The price of not using any icky powders is learning how to cook lol. If you still want to use powders thats fine, theres nothing wrong with them, but just so u know that eating more protein wont necessarily help u grow, cause ur body has a natural cap on how much it needs/wants to use of the general amount u give it, the rest itll shit out. So, if eating more is difficult to u, I suggest avoiding the powders and just restructuring ur meals to fit you.

As for working out - if youre a woman focus more on volume (higher reps, lower weight), if youre a dude then the opposite. If youre doing more reps at a lower weight make sure that the weight is still somewhat challenging to you though. The distinction between male and female here is important because our bodies respond differently to training so if ur purpose is building the big mooskles and ur a girl - lighter weights will get u there faster. If you want to maximize strength gain as well - dedicate 1 day a week to heavy weights (so less reps but increasingly challenging weight). Im not gonna delve into the types of exercises or workouts u should do cause idk u or what ur experience is but theres enough content online abt that.

The most important thing about the eating and working out is the consistency. ur muscles grow because they respond to stimuli, they adapt to the pressure ur putting on them. theyre not gonna adapt if this stimulation is momentary. Try to work out 3-4 times a week, even just for 30mins each. Get in those reps per muscle group, train each group about twice a week and ur good. Youll see longterm results once eating+working out becomes a habit.

Last thing I wanna touch on is cardio. Theres this weird belief that, if u wanna gain muscle mass, you shouldnt work on cardio. Idk which lazy cunt invented that but its not true! Cardio is important for ur heart, health and ur ability to lift heavier loads! You dont have to run for cardio, theres many activities you can pick from: swimming, boxing, jump rope, dancing etc. Hell, even walking is really good cardio (and is actually better for you than running, longterm) and you can easily do that if you got 1hr to spare twice a week. Developing your cardio will not only make you feel better and healthier, its also detrimental to your strength gaining journey, to avoiding plateaus.

orpheus alabaster my BOY !! he's so silly <3 (also this is going to be a LONGGG post so it's under a cut) (he's my little guy i've got a lot to say about him)

He's like the city equivalent of a world-famous detective (one half of a detective agency working out of the attic of a curiosity/antique shop in the oldest part of the city)– he's a household name, and is known for taking on pretty much every case that he comes across (except, curiously, the biggest unsolved mystery the city has ever seen). Basically, Orph is the detective of the gentleman thief-detective dynamic and the watsonian narrator-detective dynamic (i love detectives <3)

He's observant, and will not rest until he's solved the case (to his detriment), and would risk his life if it meant saving the lives of others (to his detriment). He's got a terrible memory (so he writes everything down in one of his numerous notebooks) and he's not great with people (he's trying, somewhat. Cecil's usually the one who talks to clients). He's always down to work around the law/the watch (the city's law enforcement). He's very nosy (Cecil also is, they're perfect for each other).

He's also basically all those memes that are like "kinda gay to be a detective [etc etc]". While his partner (Cecil– they started the detective agency together!) has been pining over him since pretty much when they met (6 years before the story starts), Orpheus fell much harder and discovered this in the past year (he's having a Great Time. demiromantic king !!). They're so silly and devoted to each other (they call each other "Mr. Alabaster" and "Mr. Meyers" theyre sickening) and it's a whole Thing.

Also! Orph's the new incarnation of the forgotten/illegal/dead god of deceit and dreams (he's a detective and also the patron god of thieves and liars wbwbwb– this amuses me greatly). He's got a complicated relationship with his identity and personhood (which may have something to do with him taking on faces and personas at the drop of a hat) and isn't quite sure if he counts as something alive anymore.

Also to do with the fact that he's a kinda-not-really dead god, Orpheus isn't quite alive; he's a believable fascimile of something living, but he doesn't bleed when cut, he's cold to the touch, and sometimes Cecil can swear that he isn't breathing. He died not too long before he arrived in the city (and has the ligature marks on his neck to prove it) and came back, but even though he'd love to have come back wrong he came back exactly the same as he was before.

Here are some extra/funky facts about Orph:

he plays the piano!! he doesn't do it often for reasons he's never told Cecil but he's very good at it and has played for him in the past

he wanted to be a poet when he was younger, and still sometimes jots lines down in between all his other notes

his hands are perpetually inkstained, his fingertips are nearly all blackened from ink

the only times he's been truly excited for his clientele to be some of the city's richest are for hermes vetch heists. they're also the only times he's happy to have not solved the case (he's got a soft spot for the thief and misses him greatly)(he keeps reminiscing about heists to kit's face without knowing kit is hermes vetch and it's so funny to me)

he's mixed race (this isnt very important story wise, but it's important to me (also mixed race)) (so's kit)

he's non-binary!! (he/him enby times!!)

he's also a trans allegory for reasons i will not go into (they contain secretsssss)

he wouldn't like to say he has a favourite method of murder, but it's poisons. he likes to have an excuse to infodump and show off his knowledge of poisons

he probably would look real nice if he put any effort in to how he looks. he doesn't, so he looks like if a cat got drenched then blow-dried and rolled in ink

he hates having anything touching his neck, especially if they're wrapped around his neck. he will suffer and be cold if he has to be

the only times he'd overcome his need to put others before himself is when cecil (and to an extent kit/hermes vetch) is in danger (they're his best friends !!)

he often stares unblinkingly when thinking. it's a wee bit intimidating

his family is basically just matchsticks kelly (the guy who owns the antique shop who took him in), and cecil (later it'll also include kit), he doesn't talk about his family

he's known about cecil's sleeping habits and tendency to clamber over the rooftops for 6 years and still gets jumpscared by him clambering into his window in the dead of night

Do you have any thoughts about slime-like monsters? I personally find monsters with… unstable??? body structure quite interesting cuz of their potential lol. Like, even of they're slow and trembling like jittery jelly, once they have grip on you – you gone, whoops. Struggling r useless, u will only get urself deeper and you can't even do a lot to escape. i actually kinda imagine him opening his mouth like a snake would since he's no longer a human (w a pic below). but in the beginning, when he's still merging with the snake god, he'd probably start tearing his, ah, meals apart, yeah. i actually don't think his transformation was actually completed by the time he started his initial rampage + he wouldn't have any arm when he first started out too.

im actually kinda stumped on how to continue this one mainly because of the breeding kink being the primary focus and the reader initially being gn. i feel iffy doing this to my fellow gn readers as well, as i don't wish to exclude them and i don't think im that good of a writer to pull off a gn smut.

i could just do two versions tbh because its a little different between if the reader is afab and if they're amab.

if afab, theyre actually kinda in for some bad time because there's so many males around, possibly around 30 to even 50, and there's a lot of dp to go around because they're sharing them.

if amab, there's not many females around at all, maybe around 4 young adult ones (with the rest being old ladies), though that's not to say the males wouldn't touch them because they def would though lol but i kinda imagined that being amab they wouldn't be in too high of demand and would be given breaks. plus, they don't have to worry about getting pregnant.

i'll take feedback regarding this matter though, so lmk your thoughts on how i should proceed!

compiling all my un-witness protection hcs into one post because. well why not

deadwood as whole is a fairly small town. one small school, the only highschool is actually outside the town. everyone from deadwood gets the bus out there and theyd all know Of eachother if they dont know everyone personally

because deadwood is Fucking Weird kids from there struggle fitting in once they go to the highschool. while a lot of them would be in larger more typical cliques, they tend to group together whenever they can

abilities like seeing/talking to spirits arent.. uncommon? its not like everyone has them and generally it isnt Spoken Of but theres a much higher concentration there than youd find in any other city or town in prime

which is how the upp formed! group of highschoolers from deadwood, all from different social groups who would never typically interact all realise they have some sort of Sight

i just realised theyyre literally like in scoobydoo. this wasnt on purpose oh god

anyway. the group was probably formed both by william (wants to investigate the goings-on but cant actually talk to spirits, only see them) and a more popular, extroverted girl who like probably had a bit of a crush on him but also agreed that something needed to be done and they could do it

just bc deadwood doesnt have heroes doesnt mean teenagers wont get hero complexes! erm

onto the actual upp! theres around 5-6 of them. 2 girls, 3 or 4 guys. i havent fully decided on a number, maybe one guy drops in and out.. for future consideration

im hesitant to give her names but one girl Is called mary. not the extroverted girl, id say shes more of their navigator and is big into survivalism. urban trespassing girlie

theres totally a jock. like there has to be. hes actually a lot smarter than people give him credit for

i think for abilities.. william has the weakest Sight but his investigative skills and motivation make up for that. also sometimes he throws sticks that helps

another one of the guys has the strongest abilities. he can see them vividly and can speak to anything that CAN speak. probably in the same boat as william, he'd be an outcast without the upp. maybe theyre close friends :)

they dont actually go into the woods unless they have to - theyve grown up on stories of how dangerous they can be and how easy it is to get lost or turned around or just Taken, even in groups

typically it was graveyards, old buildings, maybe a trainyard or something idk whats in america

if they were dealing with aware spirits, typically all they needed was some sort of easier seance/exorcism, maybe just having someone to tell their story to, maybe a mystery solved

theres monsters in deadwood too, though. procedure for them varied wildly from RUN AWAY to finding out who they once were and helping them back to that, and then the typical seance/exorcism, to just asking it to go away

after williams incident, they dont fully drift apart. maybe for a while after he left, until they were sure whatever curse he had brought on them was gone with him. they tone down the investigative side of things, and have less cases as a result, but they still do what they can

topography report

first cycle r.1 - generic jungle area, nothing out of the ordinary. i saw exactly one legless lizard - blueberry, i think. makes sense even they'd escape. its 23c r.2 - lot of lizards i've just been calling "vanilla" for now. some weird jumpy blue ones, too.. must be the cyan lizards ea mentioned? the cyan lizards are sticking pretty close to our regions... must like the cold. r.3 - these regions have a lot of creatures in them. also a lot of predators. saw some big noodly things which were fighting with a flying centipede, probably over territory? there's also a few fire-flingers or whatever theyre called, which is interesting considering the fact that they only live at the tops of trees in our regions. r.4 - there are also a lot of lizards here.

second cycle r.1 - have to move inland for the quickest actually walkable route and it's even warmer here... yuck. around 25-28c. r.2 - actually nevermind. it suddenly got a lot colder. looks like the trees that keep all the heat in are a lot thinner here... around 20c again. r.3 - there's more lizards. honestly considering how many lizards there are and the state of our retaining wall i can only assume they're actively avoiding our regions. wonder why. r.3.5 - that was a joke. r.4 - i should make a list of lizard tastes.... they all taste pretty different, especially for something that looks so similar. or maybe the stuff in our regions is just sorta plain.

third cycle r.1 - turns out some unknown cousin is in my way, which is why there are basically no trees here. their retaining wall's open for business, so i'm going through instead of around. r.2 - there's this weird cold white substance all around the area. it melts when i put my hand in it... i wonder where it came from r.3 - okay i absolutely know where the substance came from. cold. -32c

fourth cycle r.1 - gonna try to be a bit quicker with advancing this time. i don't want to get stuck in whatever that was again. really really sucked. also, there are a lot of torches around here, sort of like the ones some ancients used to put all around the place - especially those that lead to the void sea... r.2 - i gotta wonder if the cousin who lives here knows about this white cold stuff? it's probably pretty annoying to them. unless this is how they output rain... some sort of double coolant system, maybe. r.2.5 - actually i could see that working pretty well. it'd be devastating for most iterators now obviously, but if you could find a way to ensure the water vapor entered the upper atmosphere and cooled down enough it could theoretically doubly cool someone down. would be good for anyone who really wants to avpid overheating i guess.. r.3 - i've seen a few weird frilly pink lizards around, but only like.. three. they're probably the smallest legged lizard i've ever seen r.4 - turns out these pink lizards mainly eat batflies, so after my first scuffle with one i've managed to get the rest to leave me alone.. nice r.5 - this sort of reminds me, actually, of the pearls winter read to the group about his namesake. then that'd make all this white stuff the "snow" he mentioned i guess? it sounded a lot nicer in those pearls... r.6 - my fur isn't cutting it as much anymore. i should be around the other side of the retaining wall about now, at least... still no sign of any superstructure, though, which is pretty concerning. lots of buildings, bone ash factories and etc. but no iterators.

fifth cycle r.1 - managed to get out, although it took a bit of a climb which is pretty interesting. surrounding area's about as cold as inside, almost no trees here. i still don't miss how hot inland was, but i can sure pretend i did. not sure why i didn't see the cousin this place was presumably built for... maybe i'll ask around later. r.2 - this place has a ridiculous amount of weird blue yeeks. the food they like doesn't even grow here... they're cute though. r.3 - nevermind, found about ten billion throweends, which is where most of them ended up being... nature sure is beautiful. r.4 - decided to use my current elevation to get a better look around and aside from already being able to see ea from here i can also see what looks like a massive deadzone. i guess that must be glories? even that cold iterator's place was less barren than that. what a loser. r.5 - looks sort of foggy and gross. like everything in it's rotting...

sixth cycle r.1 - found some sort of relatively intact - if a bit hard to navigate - railway. anything of interest inside the cars is long since rotten but it's still pretty cool. r.2 - further i go on it the more it's messed up. seems like the roots of the trees around here are helping some of it stay intact, like the ones on winter's can. but thanks to the deadzone's influence i guess they're a bit thinner here. yeesh. r.3 - staying as far away from that deadzone as i can, managed to jump onto another track which'll make it take a bit longer to get to ea but is probably a bit safer. harder to see below on this one, but i don't really need to. maybe not the coolest thing to say in a topography report though. r.4 - went into one of the cars for shelter and it is so fucking pretty here... looks like it must've been used to transport decorative flowers and they just.. kept growing. there's a window specifically so that they wouldn't die or anything, which thankfully isn't broken enough to let the rain in. really nice. not sure why i've described this more in detail than anything else in this report.

seventh cycle r.1 - getting a lot warmer again, which makes sense since i'm practically at ea's already. not too warm though which is nice and probably means something about their regions... i'd say it's gotten to 20c at most. r.2 - following the railway lead me to a pretty big farm array. didn't realize that any of those could even survive outside of a retaining wall for that long but this one isn't in such bad shape. fruipt. r.3 - fruit hasn't killed me yet and didn't have anything poisonous in it either way. i should probably mention it in the plant report for quiet but i'm too lazy r.4 - surveying the area a bit, seems like several of the shelters closer to ea are locked. guess i'll have to find the closest one and force myself out during precycle. still got a ways to go... r.5 - think i'm at the closest shelter. it's a pretty big one, although not as pretty as the plant one i found earlier. gonna look around a bit more... r.6 - more vanilla lizards, which is cool. they don't seem super bothered by wormgrass... and they have this sticky glob attack i didn't see earlier cause i managed to catch most of them by surprise. saw them take down one of the big noodle things to eat. pretyy cool r.6.5 - turns out lizards are really good at communicating how much they hate people. Ow.

Cleo doesn't get the chance to return Lizzie and Bdubs' greetings when they enter the Art classroom, because she darted straight past them to the offices, putting her phone back in her pocket. Weirdly enough, they feel scared, (though surely nothing could top what they've experienced before, right?).

The door to the Guidance Office creaks, making Joel and Scar's heads turn around from where they were sat facing away from her. She notes that the two look just as worried about it as she does, and that she should check on them later once this ordeal is done.

"Apologies for being late, sir," Cleo addressed the guidance counsellor before taking a seat beside Scar. "Didn't know this was a thing until Joel told me."

"That's alright," comes the monotone reply.

Alright.

"Now may you tell us why you called us here?" Joel asked, attempting to keep his composure by bouncing a leg.

"Ah, see," the counsellor clears his throat, "it's regarding your father."

Oh. Oh, the fear shared by the three is founded now. They've spent… how long with their parents? A decade. And a half. But their mother passed the year prior from an "incident." And the time their father has on this world will all end in the next few seconds -

No, wait, it probably already has.

"He's gone, isn't he?" Scar asks then, blunt and soulless. It surprised the counsellor, as his eyes went wide at Scar's question before composing himself again, but Cleo and Joel weren't fazed.

"... Yes, yes he is," the counsellor says slowly, "and your relatives would like to take custody of the three of you."

No time for grief, Cleo thinks, and looking at the other two, her siblings, (not by blood but by their own choice), they seem to be thinking the same. If there was one thing they learned from their relatives, it's to be ruthless, stubborn, and strong.

"Will they fetch us?" Cleo asks next. "Our relatives, I mean."

"Wouldn't you like to know the disclosed details of your father's passing fi -"

"Was it an incident?" Joel cuts in, and the counsellor turns his attention at him.

"Yes," comes the reply, and Scar stops himself from snorting. "Your relatives - specifically his sister - said he fell off his fishing boat two days ago. Waves were too high and he got thrown overboard. The authorities didn't get the chance to retrieve his body this morning, where he was already dead."

And they waited two days before telling us, Cleo wanted to say.

Instead, they ask, "Our relatives will fetch us, yes?"

"Yes."

"When?"

"Later, around 6:30 in the evening."

"Anything else, sir?"

The counsellor clicks his tongue, "None."

"Good," Cleo stands from their chair, and Joel follows their suit, holding Scar's wheelchair by the handles and starting to push him out of the room. "We'll be off then, if that's alright, sir?"

"Of course."

"Thank you," Cleo smiles.

The smile quickly turns into something fiery when the door closes behind them, the three saying silent while processing the information in the hallways full of chatter. There's anger, hurt, and longing simmering, burning them slowly inside out. There's desire for revenge, but -

"We all know what this means, right?" Scar asked, fiddling with his fingers as he looks up at Joel and Cleo.

"Mhm," Cleo replies, "Didn't tell us about his death immediately so they can split the money."

"Custody though? What are we? Preschoolers?" Joel grits his teeth, hands gripping the handle of Scar's wheelchair tighter, and Scar responds by patting his hands as an attempt to calm him a bit down.

Truthfully, they all expected it, with the... comforts their family has compared to their relatives. Their parents knew this, which was why they raised the three against the norm their relatives had: patience, understanding, and kindness. They grew up with it, lived it out as much as they could.

This made their parents revise their will to state that the three of them are the rightful receivers of any properties and heirs to all businesses owned - them, the adopted kids. Instead of the other family members.

There's desire for revenge, but if they want to keep their parents' legacy, that revenge isn't the way they should go down. Nonetheless, none of them are saints, and they still want to be prepared to face whatever tricks their relatives may have up their sleeves.

A mental checklist of things to do forms individually in each of their heads, the overlaps being:

Get Scar and Joel's stuff out of the dorm

Get Cleo's stuff out of her apartment

Do not tell anyone else (even their friends) what's going on because that's a whole other can of beans

Prepare to live on the streets... again

(The last, at this point, is a given if they want to be in control of their own paths and decisions. Besides, the streets don't sound so bad compared to those stupid people that want custody over them.

God, the things people do for money.)

"You guys have anything to do for the rest of the day?" Cleo asks to distract momentarily, and Joel and Scar strain to hear it.

"Just Game Night," Joel replies.

"Yeah! With Lizzie, Pearl, Jimmy, and Bdubs too... though, they can probably survive a DnD session without us," Scar laughs slightly, trying to lighten up the mood.

Joel shoots the question back, "Do you have anything to do, Cleo?"

The messages from her roommate come to mind, and she's torn for a moment.

"Nothing much," she replies plainly, but manages a smile. "Sorry you guys are missing game night."

Joel waves it off, "It's nothing."

The look Joel and Scar share tell Cleo that they aren't convinced by her answer. Thankfully, they don't bring it up again.

Truthfully, Cleo isn't convinced by Joel and Scar's response either.

Well, not now.

The silence falls between them once more, and it's all so incredibly loud. Their surroundings are tuned out as their plan is formed on shared looks and nods, wordless and quick. The anticipation for what comes next almost feels like standing in the middle of a ring of fire, the flames not touching your skin yet heat still felt.

In moments like these where they have no where else to run, they've learned to look after themselves and each other's burns.

Cleo leaves campus once they were sure that Joel and Scar made it back to their dorm, and takes a run straight to her apartment.

So, zoro as nav and sanji as pilot. This shit is surprisingly like the davy back fight where sanji goes "hey mossy give me 10 seconds" and zoro just replies "aight bet" and suddenly theyre a literal power duo. This is them in an exercise w luffy:

Zoro: luffy is 5 miles to your 6 approaching in about 30 seconds

Sanji: copy *pulls the throttle and cranks a sharp left*

Zoro: Now at our 3, gaining speed and approaching in 10.

Sanji: hold on, mossy *repositions parallel to surface before pulling the stick towards him to gain a height advantage against luffy, it makes them jostle around for a good few seconds*

Zoro: SHIT warn a guy will ya?!

Sanji: hah, didnt take you to be a backseat driver, moss

Luffy cannot reach them atm and is attempting to gain altitude so sanji only needed to go similarly fast enough to what hes used to for a second before pulling back and forcing luffy into a situation to pull a wingline overshoot, making luffy be in front of sanji.

Sanji: target neutralized

Zoro: well goddamn, cook, did they teach you to fly at the speed of fuckin sound in the north blue?

Sanji: HA no but im sure they taught you to overshoot a lot in the east blue

then once they return to the carrier they bicker like teenagers...which they are in this series ig since i think they'd be 19-22 in this. Probably 21 though.

okay reading this i dunno if i always thought this probably i did but ive returned to it again and definitively this time. this interaction between dave and dirk is the BEST interaction in the comic and adds so much more depth to both of them who were already GREAT characters. THIS interaction solidifies dave as my favorite character of all time. homestuck is many things but one of its major themes is just trying to become a better person. and i think dave personifies that theme so much. he has come so far and evolved so much as a person that looking back at his early interactions in the comic makes you think you are looking at a completely different character. sure he types the same and has a bit of the same mannerisms but it is so clear that he went from shitty bigoted teenager to a guy who actually cares about the things he says and does and a guy who is actually a good person. he even says in a previous interaction with roxy and rose that he has focused on being a half way decent guy so that when he makes a freudian slip (which he does ALL the time) it wont be anything insane of unforgiveable. i fucking love him and i am so glad this conversation with dirk exists

hiya! so those of you following me may have noticed that touhou has taken over my brain over the last summer. i’ve been working my way through playing all* of the main touhou titles and after finishing th11 realized that i have many thoughts about these games and no real outlet because none of my friends play touhou so im just gonna start doing these review-esque posts about all the touhou games once ive finished them. as you can tell by the fact i just beat 11 i have a bit of a backlog here so expect to see a handful of these.

if you do not care about all that, thats fine. i just really wanna talk about touhou lol. posts in this series will be tagged “#grimoire of nina” for archival/organiztion purposes. anyways all that said it is time for the actual post

nina’s thoughts on Touhou 6 - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil

it's the first touhou! well it's not obviously there's a big 6 there but it's the first in the windows continuity, the first that ive played through to the end and finished, and supposedly the first in the streamlined danmaku style of gameplay. 

since its the first of them, its lacking in many unique elements that make it easy to talk about, so this one's probably gonna flow way worse than later reviews. it's very simple but not in a bad way, just raw shootin’ and danmaku dodgin’. one interesting “mechanic” unique to this game is ironically it's lack of one. in touhou to make dodging the bullets possible your actual hitbox is way smaller than your character sprite, and later games let you view your true hitbox while focusing. EoSD doesn't have that, so you kinda just have to get a feel for what parts of you can safely take a shot without you getting owned. it's kinda fun not knowing exactly whats safe, but probably rough if you’re used to the later games. of the different player options my favourite was Marisa’s illusion laser setup (i am not immune to master spark) but all 4 choices were pretty fun, and i ended up doing 1cc’s with both of Marisa’s options.

the characters in this one are all really good! it helps a lot that most of them show up frequently in future games and outside media and get more development. if i had to pick favourites though, id go with Rumia, Patchouli, and Koakuma. Rumia is a adorable little gremlin youkai with darkness powers who flies around t-posing, using darkness to create an orb around her during daytime to block sunlight and subsequently bumping into trees cause she can't see anything through the orb lmao. Patchouli is a tired magician youkai who spends all day in a huge magical library reading tomes and being bothered by Marisa. she has like asthma and anemia so she can't do any physical activity ever she's just the ultimate nerd. also her everyday outfit is just some comfy purple pajamas its an absolute vibe. lastly Koakuma is Patchouli’s familiar who's a summoned demon of some kind (usually interpreted as a succubus) who has the unfortunate job of actually managing and organizing the insane labyrinthine library that they live in and assisting Patchouli with personal matters. ironically Rumia and Koakuma have like the least characterization actually in the game (along with Daiyousei) but they get more love in external media and fanon. 

overall EoSD is great. it has a set of beloved characters, and really solid base gameplay. its a bit basic and lacking in a few features but its still great fun :> thanks for reading if you actually stuck with it this far!

(*not sure if i will play the first 5 games from the pc-98 era. i may check them out afterwards but theyre not high priority)

INTERESTING QUESTION! lucky for us i already have the original trilogy's osts at hand so im going to go ahead and rate all of them. sorry i know this isnt what you asked for but im doing it anyways. aa4-6 excluded for obvious reasons. will update this if anybody reminds me after im done with them. this is probably everybody but i mightve missed something

phoenix's theme(s): honestly bangers, the lot of them. aa1: 8/10, aa2: 8.5/10, aa3: 9/10 maya's theme: its cute! also very fond of this one. also not outstandingly spectacular but a definitely solid 8.5/10 gumshoe's theme: good! pretty standard but im also fond of this one. i'd give it probably a 7.5/10. very catchy though honestly i still miss having it pop up in the games grossberg's theme: fine. not really anything interesting here but not grating on the ears. 6.5/10 but it doesnt really need to be better than that blue badger's theme: yeah im throwing this on here. it accomplishes what it needs to do but if i had to listen to this for minutes on end id go insane marshal's theme: sorry honestly we spent WAY too much time screwing around with him so this theme kind of makes me a little annoyed. personal biases aside its actually a solid musical theme lets throw it a 7.5/10 gant's theme: i love gant so much you dont even know. you couldnt even fathom. that being said i do NOT like his theme it gets REALLY grating really fast. like i understand what theyre going for especially with the organ but this thing was not meant to be listened to for as long as i was forced to. 4/10 shelley's theme: as im sure most of you are aware i hate this man. so if we were going purely by personal biases id rate it 0/10. that being said as far as musical quality goes i suppose it does its job but its kind of bland. 6/10 pearl's theme: the fact that its a variation on maya's theme is ADORABLE and im obsessed with that. anyways its very cute and i love it a lot. solid 8/10 edgeworth/franziska's theme: they're close enough that you can mostly count it as the same thing. anyways when i was playing aa2 i got really sick of this theme really fast because edgeworths smug little attitude while we were dealing with the middle of a hostage situation was NOT appreciated and the theme made it soooo much more condescending. anyways my personal biases aside honestly id give it an 8/10 but with the asterisk of "you cannot listen to this thing for too long or youll go insane" dahlia's theme: honestly drove me up the wall while i was playing the game but this was like 90% the fault of the judges & payne. nonetheless its still kind of grating so im giving it a 6.5/10 godot's theme: obsessed with this thing genuinely when i found the arrangements albums i listened to the jazz version of this one for hours on end. love the official art where he has a saxophone. 10/10 would not change anything. mask demasque/ron's theme: this one slays actually. 9.5/10 sure why not i love this thing they really knocked it out of the park. atmey's theme: dont like it. sorry its kind of boring and the beginning reminds me of harpsichords which make me feel carsick. 5/10 larry's theme: honestly very fond of this one. i dont have too much to say but its very larry. love it 8/10 kudo's theme: grating on the ears and i hate this guy anyways. honestly we're going down to 4/10 tigre's theme: annoying after a little bit but since they dont overdo it on using it honestly i really love this theme actually. its fun its loud its aggressive and its catchy. 9/10 misty's theme: fine i guess. kind of forgettable. 6.5/10

also while we're here go ahead and take this arrangement on the bonus tracks of the aa3 soundtrack

This will be the last update on the project before I share the final getup.

It is 5 days before the deadline. I should be packing shit up really before I travel 7000km across the atlantic ocean.

Yet here we are. At last. The last few things.

Last time we left off we were gassing our family with spray paint fumes. It is -checks watch- 6 days later and the room still smells like fumes.

But lets not despair. I had both sides spray painted black and i didbt even have to go in to touch up the edges since it absorbed a fair amount of paint there! Gnarly.

It was time to paint. I got the most expensive tub of paint ive ever purchased in my life but its SO vibrant and so glittery you know what i dont even regret it considering im a cheapskate. I planned to do it in 4 different coats.

Coat one: a darker shiny as the base.

Looking pretty good. A nice dark fading into light.

Second coat: brighter blue

Third coat: bright green is spots only

Fourth coat: black along the stem and some pure unmixed metallic blue very sparingly around the shiniest areas

And voila!

Crow feathers are only shiny on one side. So I didnt have to worry about doing this for both sides thankfully. I did do a deep dark blue on the underside of some larger feathers for texture though.

Now to make the tail.

It was pretty straightforward. Nothing special was done with it. I measured an elastic band around my waist and sewed it up. Then stuck the feathers how I wanted.

Using some left over foam I constructed the base of the tail the feathers will stick only. Now even though the feathers ARE quite light, i wanted to make sure i can pose the base up or down just in case the tail went flat against my ass and id be kicking it with my feet. So this called for another wire action.

The foam has a back and top glued together so the wire cant escape. After that it was a matter of sewing the foam to the elastic, then gluing on the fur and sewing the top to the elastic again, and the sides so the foam doesnt peek out.

Onto the wings!!!

If you saw my previous post you probably already know i wasnt doing this part with hot glue. Its easy to tear off hot glue from fabric if you pull hard enough. Whats NOT easy to tear off is superglue though. So i wrapped my arm around in kitchen papertowels and some masking tape (for extra defense points) and honestly that was probably too much. But it worked!

Layer 1 (Primaries) ^

The first layer is glued only to the fabric . This ensures that the big feathers can move around with my wrist and hand naturally without catching to the other feathers. Layer 2 (primary/secondary coverts) is stuck to their respective feathers only. For further movement. They do overlap the primaries though. Because theyre stuck onto the primaries, the above view is not pretty. This is where layer 3 (alula+median coverts) come in to play. These are stuck to both fabric, the edge of primaries, and the tops of coverts. This completely blends the feathers into the fabric as natural.

The we just put the claws on and voila!! (My fingertips were covered in masking tape dw)

Pretty straight forward just time consuming in between waits for the glue to bond.

I DID however, forget to put on my paper guard on when i put on the second glove. It did not hurt. Then i did again after putting an extra feather onto the first glove. That one hurt.

But!!! Theyre done!!

This concludes every single part of the costume FINISHED. 5 days before the deadline.

This has been a fucking JOURNEY and yall are insane for listening to me ramble.
