I'm barely to the massacre and I can already tell I'm going to be screaming at every this-makes-no-sense decision made by the writers (your temple is under violent attack, and you evacuate the kids... to a barely enclosed corner in a prominent temple room? Instead of to the hundreds of sky bison that were highlighted as flying in earlier? Why?) (And Aang left to clear his head and think instead of to run from his duties? That's such a less compelling plot arc?) (And the show had him briefly monologue about being a goofy kid who loves pies and his friends instead of using the extended temple scene to show any of that? Didn't want to pay more child actors, did you, Netflix?)

Yeah I'm just. Going to be screaming at the screen instead of enjoying this. Different decisions aren't necessarily bad, but when those decisions seem to be in the direction of "show a man burning alive before we even get to the on-screen massacre" this is just... not the show for me.

atsushi's entire gag of going "i'm a tiger, not a cat" is fun to me outside of the obvious reason of "tigers are just big cats" because i enjoy seeing people interpret it in various ways in fics and other works. i think my favorite is the idea that he doesn't like being called a cat because it feels dehumanizing to be treated like an animal rather than a person; it feels real enough to fit his character. realistically though i know it's probably because atsushi is a teenager and just being a cat sounds lame as fuck to him

can i just say, i am loving the parallel of the darkling threating alina telling her he'll strip away all that she loves and cares about until there's nothing but him, followed by this lady (i'm gonna be honest i've already forgotten her name) talking about how she's been alive for 400 years and has had everyone she loves die, taken by time. it just really hanmers home how little alina understands about what's going on. she's too young, she hasn't lived through it yet like this lady has, like the darkling has. he threatens it because that's what he's been through already time and time again and he's still hurting. he wanted to open himself up, to her, to love, dreamed they could work together. end grisha oppression and persecution and neither of them would have to continue losing people.
