Thinking about how Mario had every logical reason to not go on the adventure to save his brother, actually. Princess Peach, a well established and powerful monarch who had just body slammed him like he was nothing, assured that she was out to stop Bowser, implying that she would be saving Luigi as well, but Mario demands to be brought along.

Peach goes further by explaining in no uncertain terms she is going up against someone unhinged and extremely dangerous– a fellow royal who has the entire Mushroom Kingdom shuddering at the mere mention of his name. Mario is not much to look at, and is utterly unfamiliar with this new world and its rules. He is a plumber, not a warrior. For all she knows, he'd be more a liability than an asset.

Mario is a little intimidated, but ultimately unswayed.

stuck on the fact that a small part of Dongsik hoped for 20 entire years that Yuyeon was still alive. he fantasized about coming across her in random places and was anxious about recognizing her as a 40 year old woman because he genuinely still held onto a glimmer of hope for two decades. ten years and another ten years after than. half his life picturing his sister dead and alive turn by turn. maybe even when he burst the wall open he still thought there was a chance it would be empty.

and isn't it supremely fucked up that for the enormous, cataclysmic impact that Yuyeon's disappearance had on Dongsik and the central place that his love for her occupies in his motivations as a character, the only time they interact on-screen is when he finally finds her body and tenderly cradles her long-dead hands in his.

#tbh one of the rare instance of the absence of their relationship onscreen doesnt make the emotional weight of her loss any lighter #like. his twin is Gone From Him. they'll never be together again so we never get to see them together #because we've come in too late in the story for that. the death's already happened they've already been ripped apart. #and yet she's everywhere!! #the way she was central to his life from the moment they were born; now it's her absence that's at the centre of him #like. yeah i dont need 20 minutes of them being saccharine happy as a prequel #because the consequences of her disappearance tell us everything we need fo know about the relationship they had #beyond evil

thoughts on Arcade Gannon!

Arcade is so silly to me but in a serious way.

His whole character centers around the guilt of his father and past and what it would mean to follow in his footsteps and to not. I hate that virtually all his endings are lack luster and sort of sad. He and Veronica get such bittersweet ending slides but all of his stem from the Wasteland not letting him find peace vs Veronica's who struggles to find peace within herself.

He's so smarmy and despite him insisting he's boring he's the most pleasantly (this is a dig at Cass) vocal companion next to Raul for me. His quest is a bitch to start early but it's fun to tote him around. I think it's fun to play around in his idle commentary because I don't think he gets to use his dry whit with the followers a lot (too easy to reveal something about himself and it probably falls flat with how direct and non-tactful the followers seem to be socially).

More people should lean into the "Highly capable in combat but panicky" side of him versus the avoidant type he tries to perpetuate. I mean he starts shooting first of any of my companions' behaviors and his melee weapon is terrifying for a guy who doesn't like to get up close in combat. I feel like he's got a lot of anger bubbling underneath his surface but is scared to let any of it out because he feels that he'd let it become misguided. Then how is he any different than the Enclave who were led by so much misguided hate they were willing to kill all mutated life (minorly mutated humans included).

I think we should put more emphasis on how Akutagawa's love is killing him. Descriptions of his feelings for Atsushi should draw from death imagery more. Atsushi's smile is devastatingly beautiful to Akutagawa. His laughter is lethal. Atsushi's touch feels scorching hot. When he's near, the air around becomes unbreathable. He hugs Akutagawa, and Akutagawa feels like his bones are being crushed under those new and overwhelming feelings. Akutagawa drowning in Atsushi's eyes, sinking in his embrace. Akutagawa's love for Atsushi is piercing, painful, Akutagawa's heart is wounded and bleeding. Akutagawa is smitten. All contributing to represent how Akutagawa's love for Atsushi is going to be the end for him. And it was! And he is doomed by his very love, by his very ability of feeling human emotions. Akutagawa's love for Atsushi is going to be the reason he dies.

one pet peeve of mine in founders-era fanfics is when madara's whole,,,, everything is solved by izuna just being there

like maybe this is just me, but i don't think izuna surviving or even coming around to the idea of a truce with the senju would've been enough to keep madara from the path he ended up on.

izuna wasn't the reason he left - he was definitely part of madara's issues, but he wasn't the why. even if izuna had stuck around, and even if that had been enough to keep the uchiha clan from losing their faith in madara, i think he would've still come to realize konoha wasn't what he'd hoped it would be.

best case scenario, i think izuna's survival might've caused madara to stick around a bit longer, but i don't think it would've lasted. honestly, even then, that might've just made the inevitable break-up between madara and hashirama even more agonizing (particularly for izuna)

it's a fun idea to play around with for sure, but frankly i don't think canon!madara could've ever been 'saved' from that path. certainly not if the hidden village system ended up getting set up in the same way.
