🐌 Sorry, I got thoroughly distracted earlier and meant to add onto this particular little tag! Someone asked about Amthyr, the OC mentioned here that looks a lot like the new Vincent.

In short, again, he's the mentor-like figure mentioned in Sal's bio - very significant character, honestly! He taught her most of what she knows about combat and attempted to teach her more than she could even grasp! (I.e: what she was able to grasp on, say, sword techniques? All him.) Taught her about maintaining Etherealism, etc. Comes off as a bit of a harsh teacher or even father figure to her. I'll have to write up a proper bio on him, one day. I do actually know his life story - it's something that's been in my head for years and I just haven't written it. You know how it goes, amirite, guys?

I only have older artwork of him, sadly, but... here's what I have of him anyway.~

🤔 Now that I actually have another look at him again, it may have just been me only vaguely remembering... but man, Vincent's new hair just instantly made me think of this guy! That and his deeper, gruffer voice. The eyes - the new chaotic eye/heterochromia deal. Some aspects of his demeanor remind me of him too...

That said, though, in my defense, Amthyr actually draws most of his inspiration from Kratos Aurion (Tales of Symphonia!) You can see more of it in the earliest rendition of him (the one with the "epic" face marking/tattoo/whatever it was.) And back then, the divergences were me being more unique and developing him... ... Then Square had to go and make Vincent look a bit like him and lead me to this crisis - which may not even be a crisis - they have their differences, still! In my head, though, they looked and seemed so much alike, I was losing my mind...!

once again thinking about jason as duke’s robin. he’s ~4 years younger than jason, and that’s puts him at 8-12 during Jason’s time as robin. that’s prime time to get attached to your local kid vigilante before your own life goes downhill.

and if we try to keep duke’s meeting with bruce in zero year + duke’s age (so he can remember the meeting and hold that conversation with bruce), he has to be around 8. if he starts following batman through the news at that time because of the mess that just happened, the robin he sees is probably jason. I’ve literally connected the dots

#we are not of course keeping zero year itself. what a mess. #maybe smth very similar so it’s still the riddler causing mass chaos! #the titans so we actually keep the no robin physically present in the story part the same #look. if we want zero year convo we need to give bruce a robin at the time. it could be 17-18yr old who’s not even in gotham bc he’s with #by time tim shows up he’s already attached to jason #and then steph’s robin suddenly for a bit but only for a bit. and then tim comes back but he’s in bludhaven for a while #i do think duke would think steph is really cool tho. and they reasonably couldve met as civilians #and then duke’s busy bouncing around foster homes the streets and looking for his parents #i wanted to talk about how much i love it and the tags are just be working out a timeline for post crisis events & post flashpoint ones (an #some of duke’s important events are related to things which are no longer canon. such is life. let’s do our best based on ages) #duke thomas #jason todd

That scene must have rang so agonizingly true for so many queer fans during those dark days. Another reason why Star Trek & Spirk are inexorably linked to queer history and queer fandom.

And not to sound vindictive because I genuinely don't mean it like that: but truly Star Trek is a queer fandom for a queer show. That is why modern iterations who gloss over or omit this, (or refuse to admit this) just do not ring true to the fandom.

Straight or Queer - it doesn't matter who you are - if you enjoy Trek you enjoy it for what it is and you can instantly recognize when it is not itself. You veritably cannot de-queer Trek.

It is empowering, beautiful, and truly goes where no one has gone before.

Does your Zack ever get to his true breaking point where everything is just too much to push away and he can't help but show his true vulnerability? And if so, what or who is the catalyst?

OMG I RRRRR I LOVED DRAWING 4 THIS ONE OKAY SO. with the au, zack will reach a breaking point with the way he's handling his emotions by blocking them off/bottling them up. It's inevitable. The question of what/who is the catalyst and not when or if it happens hehehe AND IM SO EXCITED TO ANSWER. Through out the au story, zack is stuck in this sorta mentality.

he's so reliant on Cloud being okay, that he can't focus on anything else (for reasons i can discuss another time). My instinctive reaction, it to think that Cloud waking up would give him enough emotional relief to let down some of those walls. But, then I thought that if Zack bases his emotional wellbeing so heavily on cloud...

then theres not going to be a point where Cloud is suddenly 'okay' enough in Zacks brain to let it out. Life has its ups and downs, recovery from physical/mental trauma like cloud went through especially has its ups and downs. Theres always going to be some excuse for Zack to close up even further, particularly since he chooses to be in a caretaker role for Clouds early recovery when he needs it.

So then my mind hopped over to Tifa and Barret, his two closest friends in this au. But I thought that also could only go so far, Zack wants to appear strong for the people he cares for, and in his mind, he's somehow 'tricked' Barret and Tifa into thinking he's stable and tough enough to be their friend, he doesn't want to risk suddenly being too much. (IMPOSTER SYNDROME GANG RISE UP) And since Zack is so numb to violence and battle, I think it'd take a lot to push him out of that even in physically violent scenarios (u could still try though. whump writers i am on ur side 4ever) And not only that, but Tifa and Barret have only known Zack as he is now. They know that he's definitely a bit weird, but they don't know how far that goes, as this is the only version of Zack they've ever met.

BUT HE OBVIOUSLY will still have his own explosion. It's necessary, it's inevitable. Just look at that guy. So I thought, who else?

But also all the overarching but cohesive themes and meta storytelling about the reincarnation cycle and its consequences and the tragically beautiful world in BOTW?? Like what happened to all that?? That was what made me so mentally ill (/aff) in the first place!!

I still love it for how they pretty much drive each other crazy, but that word choice and the consent issues... *cringes* At least there are valid warnings beforehand, and the first fic was pretty PG. An arachnophobic Zack watching in awe as Sephiroth, instead of squashing the spider he discovered in his apartment, gingerly releases it on the windowsill.

“Wow, bud…” Zack sounds almost sheepish. “I didn’t know you liked spiders.”

Sephiroth shrugs, a certain thoughtfulness in his eyes as he tosses the paper towel out. “They’re…. perfectly fine creatures.” Though he is admittedly fascinated by their webbing patterns, yes, he can’t deny that there is more motivating him than simply that. More plucking at him, reaching deeper strings.

A pensive, weary look crosses the warrior’s face, his gaze suddenly heavy with stones of the past. Somewhat faraway. Floating.

Zack’s sheepishness is eclipsed by concern. “Seph? You okay, pal?”

He can never hide things from Zack anymore. Not that he wishes to.

Sephiroth again shrugs, lightly huffing. “There’s countless people and monsters that have fallen by my hand. Almost all of them were in the line of duty. Against my control.” He glances at the window, where the spider has already vanished into the velvet night, free and safe and spared.

“I try to do right when that control is mine.”

Zack watches his friend for several beats, letting a swathe of silence stretch between them. And then he gets up, from the couch where he had taken cover, making his way across the room to pull his friend into a warm, proud hug.

He squeezes tight, a gentle smile pressed into the leather collar.

“…And they called you a Demon.”
