Rabindranath Tagore

One of the things I love the most about making content online is... I've grown so much as a human being.

My art has gotten better too, of course.

But every day I'm introduced to so many cultures and customs and people from all different walks of life and it has honestly made me a better person because of that.

Just today, I was introduced to Rabindranath Tagore. And I think the thing that made me immediately want to learn more about him was that he was referred to as "The Bard of Bengal."

He was a Polymath (which, I think means he was really smart in a lot of different subjects) from Bengal who became the first non-European and the first lyricist to win the Nobel Prize in Literature

He was a poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer, and painter.

He was a humanist, universalist, internationalist, and ardent critic of nationalism, he denounced the British Rule over India and advocated independence from Britain.

He hung out with Einstein and Gandhi and seemed like a generally cool guy.

Both India and Bangladesh use his works as their national anthems.

And while I'm getting most of my information from Wikipedia... my subscribers from India and Bengal assured me that Rabindranath Tagore is absolutely beloved and truly someone more people should know about.

So halfway through coloring this, I realized that Sokka and Katara are only a year apart, so toddler Sokka wouldn't hold newborn Katara in canon, so uhhhhh I call this piece "my spectacular au where Sokka is a little older because I'm a fake fan and cant remember the gaangs ages" lmao.

Also one of the most common aspects/tropes of the Peepaw genre of Rise fanfics is the angst that comes from outliving all your family members, but this version of Raph doesn't have that (at least at first), because he was the first to die. As far as he knows, his family is alive and well, and he just has to get back to them somehow. As far as he knows, they're trying to bring him back.

But here's the thing: he's well and truly stuck in the past. And they aren't trying to bring him back, because as far as they're concerned, he's dead. While Raph is waiting for some kind of sign from his family, they're mourning him. But he doesn't know that, so he waits for years.

Every so often I think about my I'm Not Dead Yet AU and like

It's generally agreed upon by the fandom that Raph is one of the first to die, right? ...What if his death is the turning point in the war? What if his death is the thing that makes his surviving family realize that, no matter if they succeed or not, that the world they grew up in is really gone? That they're fighting to restore a world that cannot be brought back?

But none of that matters to Raph, because he doesn't know that. He doesn't see how his family reacts to his death, because he doesn't truly die, he gets sent back in time. He might not realize it at first, but he's stuck in the past with no way of getting back to his family. Sure, he now has the power to find the Key and prevent the Krang from ever escaping the prison dimension, but if he does, the future versions of his family, the brothers he grew up alongside and lived through the end of the world with, will never exist.

Unrelated, now nobody knows he's a mutant except him. There are no other mutants, really. Everyone around him (at least in the Hidden City) assumes he's just another yokai. Maybe one with a tragic story, given all his scars, but plenty of yokai have those. A part of his identity is gone now, the part that he shared with his brothers. The part that made him one of them.

Tbh this is part of the reason he effectively changes his name to Ragnarok (or at least one of the factors) because what fun is having a character question his entire identity if he doesn't get a fun name change out of it lol

unsung benefit i think a lot of ppl are sleeping on with using the public library is that i think its a great replacement for the dopamine hit some ppl get from online shopping. it kind of fills that niche of reserving something that you then get to anticipate the arrival of and enjoy when it arrives, but without like, the waste and the money.

Donnie holds back a sigh at the hesitation in the other turtle's voice. It's something he's gotten used to recognizing, of course, but that doesn't make it any more comfortable to face. "Do you... happen to be familiar with where we are?"

In his arms, Beatrice flaps her hands and reaches curiously at the other Donnie.

Donnie whips around as fast as he can, Beatrice flattening themself against his plastron as he wraps his arms tightly around them. "Who are you--oh, you're... a Donnie, correct?"

Now that he's been here a bit longer, he's becoming a little more curious about how, well, all of this works. Seriously, he's surrounded by evidence that the multiverse is real, and he's barely asked any questions! Surely another version of him might know something.

Beatrice unflattens from his front and wriggles around in his arms, sprouting a few extra eyes to look at the newcomer.

I got an ask from someone who felt timid about drawing curlier hair and wanted some advice! This is by NO means exhaustive and is mostly just my thought process for my own stylization. There are tons of resources for drawing more textured hair, so for this I just wanted to focus on curls. hope it helps!

Turtle in the belfry AU

Serperated Donnie AU where he's raised by the Bat librarian, who I have called Agatha, and helps his mom as a library assistant.

Instead of just hush bats, you also get carried away by mini Shelldons.

His shushes sound like hisses.

He has to wear a special mask because he can't control his own volume and keeps accidentally getting carried away.

He has randomly busted out into song multiple times in the library multiple times and been carried away.

At this point, the kids know and love him.

Kids will ask where books are just hear him create a dung to memorize its location. They made it a game to bet if he gets carried off or not.

Normal-sized Shelldon was the prototype. He watches the kiddie room because he doesn't have much of a library… anything.

He's very friendly and energetic though, so great with kids.

TBH part of Draxum's reactions in my aus is based on how I tend to see him as being generally kinda grossed out by romance and/or a guy who's lived without it for centuries. He doesn't particularly care about it, and sees it as fairly unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

That said:

Minor Interference Draxum would be fairly excited to see the turtles forming relationships in the Hidden City and with other yokai in general. At least at this point in the fic, he's starting to become interested in the turtles' becoming integrated into yokai society, so while there might be some element of "wow that seems awfully fast", he would be fairly supportive.

My Circus My Turtles Draxum however, would be a bit pickier/more protective over who his kids might date. He's more involved in yokai society as a whole and more interested in maintaining a good reputation as a result, and he wants to make sure that at the very least his kids wouldn't end up with someone that's going to cause lots of drama and spread rumors. Still, he also wants to make sure that a potential love interest is well-suited for his kids (especially since some of them have had... really bad relationship experiences). Anyone who he thinks is interested in one of his boys is very much getting a shovel talk, and, well, Draxum is pretty good at being intimidating.

Not Quite Hidden Draxum doesn't know the turtles well enough at this point to really have an opinion on it (that and they're still very little at this point), but assuming that the story ends up going down a path where he's present in the turtles' lives by the time they start showing romantic interest in other people, there's a good change that he'll be very similar to MCMT Draxum.

For aus like I'm Not Dead Yet, Get Babied Idiots, and Body Horror Baby, Draxum straight up would not care. It's none of his business who the turtles crush on, and it's not like he's involved enough in their lives and/or trusted enough for his opinion on it to matter to them.

Also, for Giant Mutant Toddler Turtles (just for funsies lol), I did at one point have plans for once the turtles were older, where they would slowly start to integrate into yokai society, but honestly their development is kinda screwy so idk how dating or making friends would even work for them.
