Alright... I can't contain my excitement. I have to talk about this. There's no waiting for the translations cause it's pretty clear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SIXTUS HAS DISASTER
I have suspected that King's son would have Disaster (this is before 4kota came out and when I'm still on the assumption that King's kid is gonna be named Galehaut)
And... here's the thing. From the beginning, Sixtus caught my attention, there is just something about the way Nakaba presented him that I'm like there's gotta be something about this little pink King and I'm right, here we are. I expected Mertyl to have a fight with the Chaos wizard but no Sixtus dropped in and just like his papa his entrance is now one of my favorites in the entire series.
This moment right here solidifies his placement in the narrative too, he's bound to be relevant one way or another, there's no way he isn't, unless Nakaba is being a troll to introduce Sixtus and reveal that he has Disaster only to keep him in the Fairy Realm. This also breaks the glass ceiling for the other supporting characters as well, cause baby you can't compete with this.
I've said this before, Disaster is a ridiculously terrifying power and the Spirit Spears are one of the strongest weapons in the 7ds/4kota universe second only to Excalibur itself.
There are also people that might ask, how does Sixtus even have Disaster when we know that Disaster is only given to the FK's by the ST. The answer here is simple.
King is the first Fairy King to ever have a child, it's not a huge stretch that the ST would just choose King's child to have Disaster and be the next FK, this is also a great opportunity to make the successor stronger as there will be someone to guide and train them to use Disaster.
Also, according to the ever "reliable" Google Translate. Sixtus' Spear is named "Mariatisla"
And after a quick Google search I found this:
Tumblr media
The flower Mariatistel which probably is the actual translation and where the name for the spear came from.

intertwined, sewn together
joel miller x f!reader
Tumblr media
a/n: this is probably really ooc but this is my first time writing for joel. i really took a narrative approach with this (which i don’t usually do) so if you don’t like it then please tell me! i just couldn’t resist world building…
warnings: touch starved joel, angst, hurt/comfort, fluff, mentions of getting shot, joel if he was even more babygirl
wc: 1.9k
Tumblr media
the sun had just begun to set when you, joel, and ellie had finally found a place to camp for the night. it was a sad dilapidated excuse of a house, but there was a roof and unbroken windows, so it beat sleeping on hard frozen soil. when you first enter the structure, ellie sprints past you, almost knocking you over.
“holy shit! i don’t think i’ve ever been this happy to be in a house with rotting floorboards and broken furniture.” she laughs, flopping down on a stray floral cushion that seemed to once belong to the couch frame against the far wall of the small living room. a wide smile overtakes your face, but when you turn to joel he looks stern, surveying the house.
“yeah well, i wouldn’t get too comfortable.” he states dryly, entering further, the loud stomp of his boots following him. “i don’t trust this place.”
“you never trust any place.” you tease, but by the way his face contorts into an annoyed look, you can tell he’s not in the mood for teasing. ellie gets up, brushing dust off her pants and grabbing your arm to stay back while he searches the rest of the building. once he’s at least two rooms over, she leans in towards you.
“is it just me, or is he more pissed off than usual?” she asks
“it’s definitely not just you.” you mumble out in a huff.
“wasn’t he just fine like, two hours ago?”
“you’re asking me for what reason exactly?”
“i don’t know. you always fix him when he’s being an ass. it’s like you’re magic or something.” ellie explains. she always does this kind of thing to you. acting like you and joel had some sort of connection; like you and him were two halves of a brain sewn together. really, you just knew him. you knew what made him smile, what made him laugh, what made him angry. ellie obviously knew you two were old friends, but what ellie didn’t know was that you and joel knew each other before the outbreak. back in texas, you had a daughter, one ellie’s age. her and sarah had been in the same classes for almost their whole lives, but when the outbreak hit, you and your daughter fled and managed to get to a small town on the border of arkansas and missouri. there, she had gotten bitten and then shot by the only man you had began to trust since your ex left. that’s when you ran away and ended up in the boston qz, running into an old friend who convinced you to stay. the old friend that you have spent the past 18 years since with. so instead of explaining this all to ellie, everytime it’s just:
“yeah right.” then as if on cue, joel emerges from the back of the house and looks at you, then at ellie.
“i suppose it should be fine here. but only for one night.” he says gruffly, his hand instinctively settled on the gun on his hip. ellie pumps a fist in the air and runs deeper into the house. you feel the urge to celebrate a night not spent on damp wet leaves as well, but something stops you. the something that hangs onto that annoyed look and that stern glare. something that makes you reach out.
“joel?” he looks out the window, yet still hums impatiently in response. “what’s up?” you pry.
“why you gotta be so nosy?” he snaps, making you take a step back.
“i’m sorry, i just worry about you. you know, when you get all standoffish. you’re not alone, joel.” the words come out as gentle, even though on the inside his reaction stings you. the hiss of hot iron against your heart.
“well you don’t need to worry, alright? i’ll take care of myself, you take care of yourself.” he retorts, words like daggers in your side. of course joel was classically cynical and rude, but you always had felt he was different with you. no matter how self-centered that sounded, people around you agreed too. joel just so happened to be more tolerable when he was around you, it was a fact. this however, was not the first time he had snapped at you. and even though it happens every so often, it still cuts like a dull knife.
“okay, joel.” is all you say before exiting the room and search for some kind of pillow or mattress to sleep on. as you dig through musty closets, your brain aches, racking itself for the reason why joel was acting the way he was. each time, you come up with nothing. once you find a pillow and a frayed rug, your mind shifts to setting up a bed.
Tumblr media
once the sun has nested beneath the horizon and the stars come out, you return to your room from ellie’s after she had fallen asleep to you telling stories from before the outbreak. as you take in your makeshift bed once again, a melancholy feeling overwhelms you. this feeling of looking a tattered rug and a dirty pillow in a battered room and being relieved that you have the privilege of sleeping here. a heavy weight settles on your shoulders, one you feel every so often that reminds you that this is how you will live the rest of your life. that you will never see this world go back to “normal”. what really gets you is the thought that this is all that ellie has ever known. or any kids for that matter. and when the sadness becomes to much you can’t hold the tears behind your eyes anymore, you turn around and leave the room. then you find yourself in a position all too familiar, fist hovering over joel’s door. ready to reach out.
“is that you, ellie?” he says from the other side of the door in response to your knocking. you could hear the floorboards creaking as he approached the rotting divider between the two of you.
“no, it’s me.” your voice is small, weary. a voice he recognizes and opens the door for with a sigh.
“what’s wrong?” he questions, noticing the glisten in your eyes from tears that had threatened to spill only seconds earlier.
“you tell me first, joel.” you cross your arms. he narrows his eyes, then reluctantly opens the door more with a sigh, prompting you to enter. when he closes the door behind you and you sit on the floor, he follows suit.
“don’t know what you’re talking about. i’ve been fine all day, you’re the one who’s crying.” he gestures to his own face as if it’s your own.
“oh come on, even ellie noticed you were off. and she thinks you are a perpetual asshole, so obviously you’re more asshole-y than usual.” his face stays flat, not showing any emotion like earlier, but this time he’s actually listening.
“there is no ‘reason’ okay?” he hesitates, “i just can’t seem to wrap my head around all this.” your brows knot together for a moment, wondering if maybe he is thinking the exact same thing you are. but then, he continues. “it just feels wrong. i look at ellie, and i see her. and it scares me, you know?” his words are warm with vulnerability, something you know only is heard when he is really, truly opening up.
“oh joel…” you exhale steadily to keep composure before continuing. “i do. i know. for awhile, i thought i was trying to replace my daughter, but then i realized something so so important.” you instinctively reach for his hand, not noticing when he jumps from the gentle touch, “we all will have many loves in our life. that’s the way it is for me, for tess, for ellie, it will be that way for you.” he swallows and you feel his hand clam up in yours, but you don’t let go. “it’s okay to heal.”
“how do you always have an answer for everything?” his voice almost sounds boyish, the way each word leaves his mouth like it might break. “i swear, you are the wisest person i know.” you laugh quietly and break from his gaze, but his free hand shakily finds your face and guides your eyes back to his. “i mean it.” he affirms. you lean into his touch, your laughter settling into a soft smile.
“you know why i came in here?” you ask so quietly, as if not to wake up a sleeping baby. his hand falls from your face and leaves a tingle in its wake.
    “why?”
“because i don’t know what to say to myself right now, and i figured you might.” you search deeper into his eyes before continuing, “because i think you’re the wisest person i know.” his look of understanding fades and contorts into something more playful.
“you making fun of me?” he says in mock-offense. “i was just trying to compliment you.”
“okay, i know it sounds that way, but it’s true. i mean i have have known you for god knows how long, and you still impress me every day. did you know that?” his face falls again, this time into a look of content. honestly you didn’t even know you felt this way until this moment, but you weren’t going to stop now, not when words were begging to escape your mouth. “-and you know me, you know me better than anyone else. you care so much, and don’t get me wrong, you are stubborn as a bitch, but i know you too. i know that you care.” his eyes soften with every word in a way you’ve never seen before.
“i was thinking about how life will never go back to normal. we will live the rest of our lives being ecstatic to have a roof over our heads and feeling blessed to have enough food to survive.” you continue, mouth starting to dry up. “and even though it’s depressing and-and awful to think about, i cannot think of anyone else on earth that i would rather be living through hell with, joel.” it gets quiet for awhile, a comfortable silence hanging in the air.
“i have no idea how i became lucky enough to have someone like you think all that of me.” is all he can say. your brain goes into overdrive by his words and crash into him, wrapping your arms about him. then, for the first time in a long time, he hugs you back. strong arms, secure around you. an apology you accept greedily, reveling in the feeling of his embrace. his thumb carefully tracing circles on your back, his face buried in your shoulder, all things you don’t realize are him feeling the same way you do. when you break apart, when two hearts sewn together rip, when two strings that were once intertwined unravel, you feel the urge for more. feelings you hadn’t known were there brewing in your stomach.
then, his hand meets your cheek, and yours meets his, you lean in until your foreheads touch and your noses brush. suddenly everything leading up to this moment is washed over with a newfound clarity. you both shake with a nervousness neither of you had felt in a long time as the gap between two lips is closed and the rest of the world disappears. you had not realized how much you missed the feeling of another person’s intimacy. the kiss wasn’t rough or even necessarily passionate, but more clumsy and gentle. you touched each other like you were made out of glass, careful not to break the other as teeth clashed and unspoken feelings built up over decades were silently spoken.
and right then you knew, that this was exactly where you were meant to be.

Leon, in the intro to RE4make:
"September 30, 1998. It's a day I'll never forget. The cop inside me died that day."
---
Officer 1: So, tell me, Yanqui. Why did you come to this horrible place? As close to nowhere as I've ever seen.
Leon: Let's just say... looking for someone.
Officer 1: That someone must be very important, eh? The Chief gave the orders himself. "Help him," he said.
Leon: I'm sure you boys didn't come all the way out here to roast marshmallows.
Officers 1 & 2: (laugh)
Leon: (annoyed) Maybe you did.
Officer 1: You have a strange sense of humor. I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Just between us. A lot of people have gone missing around here, and it's been that way for a while, now.
Leon: (still annoyed) Well, then. Should be just another day in the office, right?
Officer 1: Mmm... I mean, last week, there was a search for some missing hikers.
Leon: (sarcastically) I'm sure you'll do your best to help me.
Officer 1: (laughs)
[...]
Leon, much later in the scene: So much for helping me.
---
Leon, later in chapter 1:
(bitterly) "Gotta fix everything myself."
---
Leon tells Ada in RE2make that the reason why he went into law enforcement was to help people like Kendo and his daughter -- vulnerable people, good people, members of the community who are facing the worst moments of their life and need someone to help make it right.
And yet he says in the intro to RE4make that the cop inside him died that day. When we take that in context with what he told Ada about Kendo, what he means is that his desire to help people died that day. The belief that he could help people died that day.
His faith in humanity died that day.
Leon goes into his mission to save Ashley already expecting the two local officers that he's with to be completely fucking useless, and he gets immediately annoyed at the first hint that they are. His "So much for helping me" is said with a sense of "Why am I not surprised?"
He went into RE2make believing that people are generally good and that things will work themselves out.
He goes into RE4make believing that people are generally selfish and will take advantage of him, leaving him to work through any problem that arises on his own.
This is why he's so supremely pissed off at Ada when they meet back up again, and it's also why Ashley is so integral to his character arc. It's also why I've said in the past that Ada is a foil for Ashley in RE4make.
(NOTE: A foil is a character that is set up in the narrative to directly contrast with another one. Where one character is deficient, the foil character is strong, and vice versa. Where Ada is cold, Ashley is warm. Where Ada is physically capable, Ashley is defenseless. Where Ada is secretive, Ashley is honest. Where Ada is calculating, Ashley is impulsive. A foil does not necessarily exist to make one character seem better than the other; a foil exists to showcase two equals using a different approach and receiving different outcomes as a result.)
Ada is the genesis of Leon's cynicism. She's the reason why he expects less than nothing from people anymore -- the reason why he goes into every social interaction waiting to be screwed over. And she reinforces this throughout the narrative by trying to tear him down ("Leave the girl. She's lost no matter what.") or by keeping score ("Happy to help. Now you owe me.") -- which she takes even further in Separate Ways ("Don't worry, Leon. First time's free.").
In the six years since her initial betrayal, Leon has been forged into a weapon by the US government. The kind-hearted boy from RE2make who wanted to save the world now is more comfortable shoving a knife in the throat of an old woman than he is with carrying on small talk with people.
But weapons on their own are neither good nor bad. It's how they're used that determines that. Up until RE4make, Leon has been surrounded by extreme violence and senseless death (that's the point of changing Operation Javier btw), and he doesn't see a way in which his status as a weapon could possibly be used for good.
Until Ashley comes into his life.
If there was ever anyone who had a good reason to take Leon for granted and take advantage of him, it's Ashley -- but not only does she not do that, but she goes out of her way to make herself useful without expectation or strings attached. The only thing she ever asks for in return is a "thank you."
So, every time she gets that "thank you" -- every time she gets a real smile out of him -- she's returning pieces of his humanity to him. She's healing the hurts that Ada and the CIA inflicted on him so many years ago. She's showing him that there's still some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for. She's worth fighting for.
When Leon says: "This time, it has to be different..." he's not talking about his inability to save anyone in Raccoon City. That's a very surface-level interpretation. What he's referring to there is that Raccoon City destroyed his faith in humanity, ruined his image of himself, and poisoned his ability to create meaningful connections with people.
That's what has to be different this time. That's why the full line he says in the intro is: "If I could just forget what happened that night... the pain, even for a second... This time, it can be different. It has to."
RE2make took so much from him, but Ashley spent the entirety of RE4make giving so much of it back. But if she were to die in his arms in chapter 15, that hope and that healing would die with her. Her death would be a reaffirmation that everything that Leon wants or hopes for in this world isn't real, and that reality is nothing more than a series of random tragedies and chaos that results in suffering.
Ashley re-teaches him how to trust in people again, how to work as part of a team again, how to feel good about his own actions again. She teaches him how to hope again.
Ashley is the first person in six years to care about whether Leon gets or feels hurt by her actions. The most important line of dialogue spoken to Leon in the entire game is "Stay back! I might hurt you again..." as Ashley openly sobs over the mere thought of it.
Juxtapose that beside...
During the boat scene, Ada asks Leon in response to whether or not she's changed, after all of the damage she's already inflicted on him: "What do you think? Don't think too hard."
And so, in the ending, Leon answers: "I think we both know that this is where we go our separate ways."
Because, this time, things were different.
Because, this time, his partner was Ashley.

"Shane was almost unnerved by how quickly he’d settled into this body, this name, this life - his friendship with Ryan was the most time he’d spent with any human before, and yet the man fascinated him."
Wow. That’s all I gotta say. I started reading Shane/Ryan fic because I had a weird dream and went looking for comfort fic to ease the edges of my mind. I stumbled upon this fic and was so fucking blown away. I was drawn in because of the demon!Shane tag and the way this story is charted out is insane. It’s nonlinear (there is a liner version tho I’m strongly against it). Just ohmygod read this fic it’s insane and hurts so good.
I’m Gonna Keep You in Love with Me (for a While) – beethechange
(21,847 words / 1 chapter / Explicit)
Tags: fake married, also real married, friends to husbands to lovers to ???, Las Vegas Wedding, possible dubious consent due to alcohol consumption, Anal Sex, Hand Jobs, Oral Sex, Rimming, just assume most of the kinds of sex are present here, probably more Celine Dion than you were hoping for, they say "fuck" a lot, also "dude" but I don't make the rules okay, Bedsharing
Shane is pacing around the hotel room. It’s not a huge room and Shane’s legs are long enough that he doesn’t have much real estate to pace before he has to swing back around for another loop.
“Can you stop?” Ryan asks. “You’re making me dizzy.”
“Okay,” Shane says finally. “Okay. Here’s what we’re going to do. We’re just going to—we’re going to be married. The only way out is through.”
“Um,” Ryan says, because this plan strikes him as counterproductive to their shared goal of not being married.
To me there are the big two when thinking of Shane/Ryan fics. That is to say the others aren’t amazing but two gutted me in a way I was not expecting from I ship I don’t even ship. This is one of the two and fucks sake it hurts me but in a way I really like and neeeeeded. (The other is the one above this)

“I’m serious,” Ryan says. “Don’t go fucking up my body. I want that shit back in the same condition I left it.”
“The same condition—Ryan. I’m not spending hours in a gym every day so you don’t lose muscle mass.”
“I want you to treat my body with the respect you would a national park. Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but memories.”
***
A certain meddling Voodoo Queen of New Orleans thinks Ryan and Shane need some new perspective on life. After an inadvisable ritual deposits Ryan in Shane’s body, and Shane in Ryan’s, the ghoulboys pursue some soul-searching and self-discovery to put things right. Sometimes in a sexy way.
I have found out while reading this fic that I am also a sucker for bodyswap!au. Something about learning to love someone completely while seeing (and being lmao) all of them is so intimate and endearing to me. Plus there’s dumplings in this fic and that is just sweet sweet poetry.

When Ryan was a kid, he fell into a pile of bricks. They were playing hide and seek, and he thought he had the best hiding spot: high up in a thickly lush tree, his knees drawn to his chest so that he’d blend in. But the branch broke. He hit his head and doesn’t remember much of what happened after that. When he woke up a few hours later, the sun was setting, and his friends were gone, and his parents were calling for him, their flashlights swinging across the grass. There’d been blood on his bangs.
Anyway, now he can see ghosts.
Kind of.
Look, he’s not great at it.
--
Or: Ryan, personally, has three lists: “NICE GHOSTS,” “GHOSTS I DON’T FUCK WITH,” and, “IDK, SPOOKY STUFF.”
Oh my goddddd this fic is so sweet and so owie. At first I was skeptical because the fanon is that Shane can see demons or ghosts or whatever. But having it be Ryan???? So owie in such a good way. Other then this fic being the masterpiece that it is, I’m going to convince you with one sentence: Ryan has a cat with a ghost in it that demands Taco Bell. That’s it baybee. Read it or you’ll regret itttt.

I first read this fic years and years ago. I don’t know how it happened but me and my best friend found it while being at a library and we went feral reading it before their mom picked us up. It’s my origin story to the ship. This fic is my first love and my baby gorl. Shane is intense in a way I lovelovelove. Ryan is dumber then a pile a bricks amen.

Failed suppressants and a surprise heat: the worst of cliches, and here Ryan stands, living the trope on location with the alpha he’s hopelessly in love with. Even worse, they’re spending the night in the famous Bell Witch Cave, completely alone and with no way to contact the outside world.
Ryan knows he can survive and keep his preheat a secret, as long as Shane will stop being so protective and concerned. After all, it’s not like Shane wants to bond with him.

“Th—thanks?” Shane says. He looks at Ryan and Ryan just looks back, weirdly impassive, giving nothing away. “But I’m pretty sure I already have a Ryan in this model. What’s the return policy?”
“Not like this, you don’t,” she says, raising her eyebrows meaningfully. Out of the corner of his eye Shane can see Ryan bring his hand to his mouth, stifling a snicker that he turns into a cough. Oh, he thinks.
Oh shit.
I’m not gonna sit here and pretend that this fic is morally correct but Shane/Sara/Ryan fic is what I needed and it blew me away and it is the best smut thank you goodnight

⭐ for The Prodigal Tiefling?
Thank you Crow!! 💕💕 hehe another chance to ramble
Since I answered another ask for the side-fic The Prodigal Tiefling I’m brazenly going to use this one for the chapter by the same title in The Lark and the Crow.
This is one of the very earliest chapters I wrote before having any intention of uploading anything, so it’s a bit creaky but dear to me.
First of all giggling maniacally while writing Woljif in hot water with the Baphomet cultists, who are not exactly the sharpest daggers in the demonic ritual DIY kit, lucky for Woljif. He has them running red-herring errands to try to keep them from sacrificing Deval:
“Now you’re talkin’. First, you need the right kinda altar. This half-baked scraped-up pentagram just won’t do. It’s gotta be granite; big slab, you know, to catch all the blood. Next, you gotta have the right kinda knives: Abyssal uh, obsidian. Dipped in the blood-rain of the Worldwound on the night of an eyeball storm. And it’s gotta be the right timing.” He looked up at the stars for a long moment, making mystic calculations. “When the moon is in retrograde.”
I’m sorry I’m such a nerd but I made myself laugh with the moon in retrograde thing. Truly the blind leading the blind.
This is an important character moment for Siavash. He finds Woljif and almost weeps with relief, but doesn’t miss a beat with “Hail Baphomet.” These two’ll be partners in crime in no time. And Woljif is more than impressed when to back it up he pulls an actual succubus out of nowhere and the cultists immediately decide this guy is ok.
Next a little interlude written much later gives a glimpse into Siavash’s loneliness as Knight-Commander and how much he valued Woljif’s company before he disappeared. This is a direct echo of my own desperate search in my first playthrough of the game. (I didn’t want to take Drezen without him. I looked everywhere. I cried. Siavash cried. Google didn’t help. It was awful. Eventually realized you have to take Drezen first.) This brings us back to his emotion in the present.
For narrative sake the chapter then goes straight into the confrontation with Voetiel. I re-wrote my own version of the dialogue, partly because I hadn’t taken screenshots (not intending to upload the fic) and partly because it was just fun.
I kind of enjoyed ending the battle with “Darkfang” the cultist and Deval rolling around on the ground trying to kill each other. I feel like Baphomet cultists are such a treasure trove of comedy.
But one of my favorite Woljif moments of all time in the game is how he tries to convince you that the only reason he went to so much trouble to save Deval from the cultists was because he didn’t want to be haunted by his ghost afterwards. This transparent lie is just everything I love about him.
And of course, most importantly, the aftermath is the occasion of Woljif’s very first hug of his whole life AAAAHHHHH
On the road back to Drezen there’s a chance for Lann and Woljif to pit their social philosophies against each other in camp:
The mongrel shook his head. “Listen. You don’t seem to get it. Hiding or running off when we’re fighting, stealing stuff, trying to get out of doing chores—think of what a disaster it would be if everybody acted like you. If everybody does their fair share, everybody’s better off. Don’t you see that?” “You wouldn’t last one minute on the streets,” Woljif shot back. “You give one green copper, play the hero one instant, show one weakness, and they’ll eat you alive. Hold the end of your tail in the fire ‘til you squeal. Haul you up and hang you by the horns. Horn. Whatever. You’re the one who doesn’t get it.”
Siavash might not strictly agree with Woljif here, but he’s sympathetic.
I kind of liked this little exchange when they arrive back in Drezen:
“Welcome to Drezen. Brand new city, ripe with opportunity.” Siavash surveyed the stinking heaps of rubble and demonic graffiti proudly. “Don’t mind the mess.” “Reminds me of the command tent,” Woljif muttered, not unhappily.
And then the flighty azata commander promptly gets sidetracked, and Woljif finds himself in a new city with nowhere to call home, and everyone else goes off and leaves him standing there. Resourceful as always Woljif finds his own way soon enough.
The chapter is a bit long and windy, but it’s about Woljif’s relationship with people—his understandable distrust and his sense that it’s him against the world, but also his secret generosity and need to be accepted.
It starts with Woljif alone against the cultists, and ends with him on his own again in Drezen. But in between he gets a taste of what looks a lot like real friendship: somebody who’s got his back unconditionally, somebody who has the smarts to pick up his cue and run with it. Somebody who gives nice hugs.

so what can they do?
nobody likes a person who points out problems without suggesting solutions, so i’m back with what’s gotta give on the rookie.
imo their current problems aren’t rooted so much in ‘you can’t please everyone’, but rather ‘the writers are doing the absolute most to please everyone who ever existed in ~40 min.’
what’s the difference? the former puts the blame on the audience for ‘not getting it,’ while the latter asks the writers to take accountability for the directionless quality of their work. their method of ppl pleasing rn is highly unsustainable, so they need to course correct expeditiously or risk crashing and burning spectacularly.
here are some suggestions.
decline at least one of the regulars' checks.
help everyone on feds file for unemployment.
brush up on the neuroscience of reward.
put some respect on the psychology behind miller's law.
be warned: it's a lengthy below the cut! 😈
decline at least one of the regulars' checks.
alexi oprah-ed a lil too hard when handing out the series regular contracts this szn. s5 has a whopping number of NINE regulars/main characters: bailan (nolan and bailey), chenford (tim and lucy), wopez (angela and wesley), nyla, aaron, & grey. to be clear, that’s 9 whole actors who must be featured in at least one scene per ep, even if their characters don’t fit into the featured plots.
the number isn’t the problem, as s1/s2 had 8: the rookies (jackson, lucy, nolan), the TOs (tim, angela, talia/nyla), grey, & captain andersen. the problem is the writers’ propensity to give each couple their own storyline in nearly every episode. it’s unnecessary, and we’ll come back to this later.
solution? at least one of the series regulars needs to go. my vote is for bailey. she stretches the rookie universe too wide by pulling focus away from the mid-wilshire crew with her jane-of-all-trades shtick.
imo nathan and jenna’s lack of chemistry + their characters’ mr. and mrs. perfect 'brand' is the ultimate recipe for becoming the ‘pee break’ couple. so killing bailey off and having nolan process that resulting grief would give his too perfect character the depth that he so desperately needs to be likable rn. after all, bailey is supposed to his loml, right?
help everyone on feds file for unemployment.
tldr the last point? it's cool. basically, in order for og rookie to go back to its roots, the universe has to get smaller. solution? stop tryna make feds happen! let this upcoming episode be the last time the walmart version comes onto the brand name’s.
the ‘crossovers’ are most def the rookie’s way of minimizing their losses from their investment on feds. it’s doing so poorly that it needs to be propped up by the shock and awe that chenford generates. when feds eventually gets cancelled, most of s5 will be unwatchable bc of the crossover cliffhangers. idk maybe don’t force-feed us new characters that we don’t feel emotionally connected to? or at least buy us some dinner first, gosh. 🤷🏻‍♀️
brush up on the neuroscience of reward.
if the writers are feeling butthurt that their audience has been disappointed weekly since chenford kissed in 5x12, then they need a crash course on the neuroscience of reward STAT.
chenford was interesting bc the reward of seeing them give in to the pull was always unpredictable. so every time they kiss, it’s not like a reward, it is a reward. we get an intense dopamine high that keeps us up and posting all night, work and other commitments in the morning be damned.
the human brain is naturally wired to do everything it can to recreate that positive feeling, so we come back weekly to patronize the show in anticipation that something similar might happen again. so ofc, when it doesn’t happen again after one week, we’re understanding; it just happened last time. but when it doesn’t happen for the 4th week in a row? chaos. we go feral in search of that dopamine hit that may never come again.
solution? keep the narratives tight. if you’re not gonna give the audience a big moment like that, then supplement it with smaller, but equally unexpected moments. (to be clear, they shouldn’t be dropping big moments on the reg bc neuroadaptation becomes a prob. the unpredictability is what keeps the audience coming back. capiche?)
so if you’re gonna drop crumbs? make it mean something. take angela and tim’s interaction in 5x02 before angela transformed into a morose mom. ‘so remind me what you were doing again, in lucy’s apartment, when chris was bleeding out?’
this could’ve been called back in 5x13 when tim asked angela what’s poppin at nolan’s house during the heat wave. in one line, she could’ve said ‘oh, so dropping her off is what the kids call it nowadays, huh?’ or something to confirm to both chenford and the audience that everyone’s clocked the change in their relationship.
put some respect on miller's law.
miller’s law is the theory that the working memory can only hold 7±2 ideas at once. when the ideas are as complex as storylines, that magic number maxes out at 5. the recap sequence in 5x16 alone had us recall SIX. imagine how tired and confused i was when they also threw in celina’s dead sister trauma on top of an ebola + sarin gas drone firefight.
i understand that there is prob great external pressure from ABC for og to capitalize on its success by creating an empire, especially with grey’s on its last legs. so they’ve been trying to go bigger and better by throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks.
sure, every couple can have their own storyline…but not all at once in the same damn ep! sure, you can call back fan-favorite scenes…but not if the rising action takes too long, leaving no room for jesus a satisfying denouement! sure, you can give your marquee couple most of the run time…but not if their moments are the equivalent of an HS prom-posal! (leave no room for jesus here instead, i beg!)
the writing in the first three seasons of the show was more character-driven and intentional. talia kept giving lucy pointed looks until she broke up with nolan. nolan spent s2 building his house, only to tear it apart to exonerate himself. jackson spent half of s3 riding with a racist to make sure that he exposed that man’s sorry ass in front of his peers.
s4 seemed to be another attempt to expand the rookie universe by having the mid-wilshire crew follow-up on random lil cases that would be resolved in the same ep, but s5 is overdoing this formula. there are more conflicts that need to be resolved in multiple eps besides the tired elijah/abril/la fiera storyline.
so what does my wishlist look like for the couples? i guess you'll have to stay tuned to find out 😉

I apologize as this is not a question, but i just wanted to say that i really appreciate your takes. Usually people when they talk about Stolitz they hate Blitzø too because he was framed as taking advantage of Stolas and having to get his head out of his ass, but i honestly still liked and felt bad for him as just now the narrative seems to be pining all this on him, which in a way is kinda how i also feel like about Moxxie regarding Happy Campers. Sorry for going on a tangion but i absolutely love this blog (also because of the headcanons and BlitzFizz stuff, i love this ship)
Aww thank you anon, that is so sweet, and no worries the inbox doesn’t have to be questions 100% of the time there’s also prompts and headcanons other stuff too
It feels like only the most privileged people who have never wanted for anything could possibly think stolas deserves revenge?
I just don’t blame Blitzo at all, the same way I don’t blame parents for shoplifting food so their babies can eat, or refugees stowing away/bypassing borders as to evade conflict. These things are crimes, sure, but there’s no malice behind trying to survive by any means necessary. What? Is the shop clerk gonna sing a song about feeling trapped in a cage and cry? Do the border police have mean dads who put them in arranged marriages? Boo fuckin hoo.
He’s not even doing it selfishly, he as a child wanted to get money for his mama…literally the biggest motivator it took to convince him to steal was to help his momma. That’s the purest thing there is. And he felt guilt towards this domineering owl who was so rude aggressive, and creepy towards him right before??
Remember how Viv said Blitzø could negotiate out of the sex any time? Uh? When stolas was leading him to his bedroom like a creep, Blitz said “look I didn’t mean to crash your uh party I was just” “Don’t bother with excuses I know why you are here” So? How did that negotiation go? What do we think would have happened if Blitzø said “I’m not here for that” yeah right.
How anybody didn’t instantly want to protect him as a small baby from all of this creepy horrible situation, I don’t know. I literally laughed while he was stealing from stolas because the little spoiled brat is so rich he probably didn’t even notice. Look I know he’s not very happy either but am I supposed to root for him and his dad trafficking a ‘lesser’ child ?
And later when he’s searching for the book we don’t know at that point whether he has Loona at home. Just like when in prison the first thing he says is how he needs to get out to see his daughter. Man I wish we saw the prison break.
Oh yeah back to the ask. As for Moxie in Happy Campers it did make me sad that all his enthusiasm and initiative didn’t work out at all and basically went up in his face :( that part I have sympathy with, yknow when you try too hard at a project? Yeah. Passing it off to someone who can do it better justice than you despite less enthusiasm is…hard. I gotta be honest I’ve never watched the full song in the middle all the way through before. It was just so cringe. The teenagers were just a very strange element. And making this Barbies debut episode compared to all of Fizz’s foreshadowing and build up into the fantastic episode that was Ozzies, I’m very disappointed.

There is one OVA where Sasuke dreams of Itachi making him an egg and Itachi makes two eggs, one with Uchiha symbol and one with Uzumaki symbol. Then Sasuke sees Naruto come get him. The latter scene looked like from one of Emi Rankai's (Narusasu artist) doujinshi. I do think at least someone in the staff had read Emi's doujinshi.
Perhaps. SNS is so blatantly obvious in the story, I can bet many people in the staff, who make a career out of storytelling, can see it. Look at the ops and eds. It's so blatant. I am at a point where I can't help but laugh when people deny it. Like lol. Seriously, it's funny. People in this fandom would chop their hair and slash their jugular before they would admit Sasuke and Naruto are gay and in love. Like it's so ridiculous how absolutely prejudiced people are but haven't realized it. Take Sasuke stans who are anti SNS. They think Kishi cannot have written a gay love story because he is Japanese and from a different generation. Like in all honesty, they were one Google search away from finding out about it. Just one simple click. Hell, I don't even step out of my house without googling the weather. And these lovely stans are so confident about saying something as ignorant as this on an international platform without even doing a simple cursory search. Male homosexuality is entrenched in Japanese culture. Accounts of homosexuality can be found in the most famous Japanese dance art form Kabuki, so much so that, it shaped Kabuki's socio cultural evolution. Here's more. And this is just one of many examples.
Seriously, that they can say something as ignorant and poorly informed is shocking. Despite having such easy access to all sorts of information. Like wow, way to out yourself as a total moron and a precious bigot. But again, people can and will go to quite an extent to enforce the narrative they build for themselves and do everything in their power to fortify it to the exclusion of everything else, including evidence and reason. Echo chambers is one of their fortifications. It's also how political propagandas work.
People in fandoms love their little cliques and groups that follow everything together. Discuss and believe everything together. They talk the same language, utter the same words, have identical takes, the more delusional one is, the more members they will have in their echo chambers. Because when inner conviction is scarce, external validation comes to their rescue and becomes crucial for them to hold on to their fallacious takes. Other factors also strengthen and validate their beliefs. The need to belong. The need to have supporters and friends. Need to be in a group. Need to conform. The need to have a safety net. Security. Who doesn't want that? How long can you believe in something that has no real foundation in itself? How long can you lie to yourself in the face of a much evident truth? You can. As long as you have others who speak the same language as you and believe in the same things as you. It's psychological. It's human. It's how social groups form. Shared interests and goals. Whether it be real life or the internet.
There are of course other fans who don't feel the need to do any of that because they are secure in their understanding. Because they know how to separate the wheat from the chaff. They are rational, experienced and prefer honesty over conformity because they value themselves. Who value knowledge over cheap and trivial self gratification.
Artists like Emi and others who are so inspired by the story can tell what the story was about because they were honest. They appreciate storytelling and just....stories. So it's not a surprise to me that they drew Naruto and Sasuke so close to their actual representation. You gotta have an honest and sensitive soul to understand their story.
Antis can slander SNS how much ever they want, but I simply feel sorry for them. Because people who actually get this story have an invaluable treasure that others don't. A sensitive and honest heart, a keen mind, an open and empathetic soul. A kind soul. Which in the long run, is much more worth than all the delusions and ignorant bliss combined.

Gotta say, I love how in your ship comparison post even ViJinx, ZuZula and MosesRameses, definitely massively enemies throughout the narrative with nothing but bitter bad blood between then by the end of their screentime (Azula being a complicated case but she did very much want to off Zuko), still have more mutual respect and a healthier enemyship than C//A's season 5 "romance."
Nate, my buddy, if the dude who kept his adopted brother's people as slaves and went out with an army to kill/recapture them after they left is still nicer to his adopted bro than the love interest is to your protagonist, uh, you might wanna revise your script a little.
(I hope this doesn't sound stupid but could you avoid using their ship names, please? I don't think you ship them but this post might appear in the search results and people can be very hostile when it comes to that. Thanks!)
Yeah, that's what baffles me, honestly. I rewatched the reunion of Ramses and Moses in the movie yesterday, and it's actually pretty sweet to some level. Ramses is very happy to see his brother, as opposed to everyone else in the room. As for Zuko and Azula, I can only think of like... two positive scenes: one of them being when they were little and they were probably playing tag, though this one is a very brief scene. The second one is when Zuko goes to their family's vacation house(?) and Azula says something like, "let's get out of here, this place is depressing". And she's not being her manipulative and controlling self here, as far as I remember. It's pretty clear how much her past hurts her, too. I think it's a moment of shared trauma, even if Zuko and Azula have very different perceptions of it (which is very realistic for siblings raised in an abusive home).
Arguably, I haven't seen Arcane yet, only a few scenes on Youtube (mainly videos that compared Vi and Jinx with Adora and Catra), but there's still mutual love between the sisters. They have similar conflicts to C//A's, as Jinx believes that Vi abandoned her. However, at least the show doesn't guilt-trip Vi for not staying with Jinx. (Again, I haven't seen Arcane, correct me if I'm wrong)
All these sibling dynamics are clearly tragic, because in some way they still care about each other, especially in the cases of Ramses and Moses, and Vi and Jinx. I think the problem with C//A is what all other SPOP crits have said before: it tells and doesn't show. However, I think "Promise" might be the one episode that shows us that Catra and Adora love each other. But other than that... that's it? For most of the show, we don't see the same mutual love. We know Adora loves Catra and blames herself for not being able to save Catra from evil, but do we see the opposite? Do we see Catra hesitating to hurt Adora and showing us how conflicted she is about it?
No. No, we don't.
But the show tells us that Catra loves Adora. And yet people believe it, when it's just not there.

Only Friends เพื่อนต้องห้าม Ep 4
Nearly two weeks late and I'm finally, finally getting around to catching up with my favourite mess.
Live watch notes!
Oh wow, we're starting out right away on the heavy stuff, huh
oh god Khaotung's acting, He's so good.
there's that word again, "burden"
thank fuck Mew cottoned on to this being a goodbye
I somehow fully expected Ray to just drop the phone into the tub
he's sitting in the EMPTY tub??? was this just for mess prevention? oh Ray, oh baby.
No, love, no, your mum did not die because of you.
HELL YEAH CHEUAM'S A LESBIAN (sorry, I'm just so excited to hear a girl actually SAY it) (but also Ray being a hit with the wlw tracks)
ooh wait wait, these shirts-- is this the make-out night?
also Ray I get you probably don't mean it like that, but you're sorta … guilt-tripping Mew here.
love the way this kinda tells us audience members a) the backstory of Ray taking that call b) that Mew's rejected Ray before c) that Ray was so desperately seeking connection that he came off weirdly manipulative about it
GOD Khaotungggg
this is shot very prettily but also what the fuck, Boston, is EVERYTHING blackmail material to you
adfsadfa LOVE Mew calling Ray out on the shirt
sleepover!!
"not your type" huh. HUH.
Ray really is hung up on him, huh.
Proud of Mew for setting that boundary.
Sand is not buying it.
Oh Sand, oh Sand.
Ooop put your foot in it
Nick, what are you lying to Sand about that?
oof "he's not normal, his reputation is bad"
oh man the employees all wai'ing the boss's son … urgh god I hate rich people, sorry Top I'm sure you're not actually that bad but URGH (also yes I'm aware of the double standard I've got going here, the way just-as-rich-kid Ray is my little meow meow)
wait, is this the photo booth where Top and Boston made out?
is this just a common architecture feature in spensive hotels, or is this the same hotel they shot Chaan's apartment in LoA with?
ooooh that plane is Boston's, isn't it
Ray and Sand may be doomed by the narrative but I love every second I get out of them anyway.
I love Sand so muchhhh
First is really good at that searching eye contact thing
ถ้ามึงอยากเป็นเพื่อนกับกูอยู่นะ คิดถึงความรู้สึกกูบ้าง BOUNDARIES we love to see them
the way they put the asshole angle on Boston here, I love it
oooh you made Boston mad just now
hookups so you can sleep, hookups to let off steam
oh man, Nick, oh man, this is not okay behaviour and you KNOW it
"I can't" -> the way it's put in Thai is กูไม่สดวก which is basically 都合が悪い but feels like 困る. Gotta ask teacher about that one.
is this why physical pictures are all you deal with, or are you just … talking out your ass because you know Nick is dtf either way for a bit yet
Mark Pakin, the actor you are
this is not news but I'd like to reiterate that I love how we have Rich Boys and Poor Boys are a theme here
asdfadfasdf "stay away from Boston" Nick, Top's been TRYING
but oh man Top is an arrogant ass. like. scary slick.
Ohhhh wow Nick, wow, wow wow. at least you're self-aware? ish?
Oh fuck of course he ran over Sand
Go go go Sand
oooof there's history here, I see. I still think it's about someone Sand liked before.
I really hope Sand's bike is fine
Nickkkkk how about you don't lie to Sand? but urgh you're also getting him in trouble which. ooof I can see this making things really complicated for him and Ray going forward.
Sand is like "oh bruv NO"
CALLED IT
Mew is so unimpressed. I'm impressed with Ray for owning up to it though, and for apologising – it's so easy to fall into the "I'm an awful person and they'll hate me anyway" spiral.
okay so at least Sand and Ray can bond over hating Top
Mew, please get mad about Top being a controlling ass like that
You've got nothing to hide, right, Top? Right?
sooo was that Not Mew in the car with Ray, then? Photoshop?
oh we're going here, huh
oh wait, was that him again just now?
that's a really good line to draw, Mew, and also you've got an excellent point about addiction here
oh man oh man oh man I'm really liking Mew more and more this ep and Top is doing nothing to endear himself to me.
oh man, someone's gonna drink that water and it's going to be a Situation™
Top, you asshole, if you could not question every single one boundary Mew sets, that'd be ace
so the thing is. Top. Why would you think Mew would believe that? you talk big.
!! this is a song from the playlist!!
fuck, Sand is so gone on him alreadyyyy, I really thought he had more distance than that, but nope nope nope
I continue to be so impressed with this show. The preview is nerve wracking, but I'm going to be strong and only watch that when I've got another 5k or so of work words done. One more ep, and then I'll have a day to wade into the tag! EXCITED.

December 6, 2022. To all those on A03 who’ve waited patiently for chapter 4, I do apologize for the wait. It’s still in production, but while y’all waiting, have this and a preview of Hexsquad Among Humans: Perils of a Realm Beyond the Boiling Isles | Chapter 4: The Dinner:
“Luz showed me her ancient human archive of knowledge, the wiki! I memorized the passage on the creation of apple juice,” Gus bragged, as if it were the words of some ancient scroll he’d recited and not the encyclopedia that every once in a while was tweaked to say the moon was in fact made of cheese. Library databases were more reliable sources of information, but Luz could barely figure out how to navigate those and so she hadn’t introduced him to them yet. She’d promised herself she’d get around to showing him those when she was competent enough not to embarrass herself in front of him. That day never came, and so he was stuck with wikis that were only surface level.
“Yeaaah,” Vee scratched behind her head. “You always gotta double check what you get from there. Anyone can edit that to say whatever they want.”
“…oh.”
“If you want more reliable info, the local library’s a pretty good source.”
“You have those here?” Amity perked up, “That’s right… the human bookworms!” She turned to Luz. “Maybe sometime we can go see them, right?” Hearing her genuinely a little enthusiastic was so sweet. Titan, did Luz wish it was under any other circumstances than the ones they just came from that they ended up in the human realm. Maybe then they could’ve had that mundane slice-of-life date she promised and not have the destruction of the isles on their mind.
<i>Still, a trip to hit the books might be in order. </i>
History books and old spell books were likely the best place to search for leads on getting back to the isles. Even if the information was bound to be vastly inaccurate. All the sources Luz had ever had on magic before - whether from ancient myths, fantasy books, or online forums - had been wrong to a degree. Not even the databases were guaranteed to have reliable information. How could they when all humans had to go off of were leaks from another world and not firsthand experience? Then again, maybe humans <i>had</i> traveled there and back again but to different regions. <i>Or maybe even different titans.</i> It wasn’t impossible, as long as Titan blood leaked into the right puddles of water at the right location. Even then, narratives weren’t guaranteed to be accurate. Philip was - <i>once was</i> - living proof that humans tended to distort the truth of magic intentionally. Finding a way back was going to be like finding a needle in a mountain of unreliably documented haystacks.
“Luz?”
A gentle squeeze of her arm brought her back to reality. It occurred to her she hadn’t replied verbally or via text to her girlfriend’s suggestion. Without thinking she mumbled, “Uh, sure. Yeah.”
Amity frowned.

My brain just made a weird thang so ima share it here bc I’ll probably forget it in 10 minutes
Interpret it however you’d like, but I have a specific narrative in my head if you’d like to hear it:
As you are watching an old TV, the television starts to glitch through a few channels, and for a split moment you think you can see an emergency broadcast on the News, before the television switches to a strange kid’s channel.
You pick up the remote, but none of the buttons work. With a sigh, you decide to watch it. After all, there’s nothing better to do currently.
The television glitches a bit more before a old-style kids show title pops up with childish graphics, but you can’t read what the text says through the insanely old TV. The channel cuts to an episode of said kids TV show.
“Hi kids! Today we’ll be learning how to clean up messes we make!”
The television glitches once more before the episode seems to resume.
“Remember, accidents happen, so don’t be too hard on yourself!”
The zany and colorful character on screen is seen carrying cupcakes before slipping and falling with a silly sound effect, dropping all of the cupcakes on the floor.
The character seems strangely panicked, but tries to remain calm with a forced, creepy smile.
“O-Oops! Looks like we spilled some stuff! Now, when you spill food, we gotta make sure to clean it up quick!
Quickly. Right now.”
The character is seen grabbing the cupcakes tray and putting all of the cupcakes back in it.
“Now, what you want to do when an accident happens is put everything where it originally was!
Quickly. Right now. Mommy and daddy can’t find out.
The character grabs a cloth to clean up the smears and spills, but for some reason, the cloth doesn’t seem to be working.
The character gives a confused and worried face.
“W-Well that can’t be right! It just can’t!”
The character searches for any sign of the smear being picked up by the cloth, but the cloth is still clean.
The camera pans to a door that is slowly being opened, followed by seeing the barely-visible figure of a person, which is shadowy.
The character’s eyes widen in fear as footsteps are heard, with a jolty and sudden cut of the television.
I then hear the sound of them calling to me.
“Hello? -,”$)@;%/)$? You have a guest here.”
I slowly turn around as I see my new surroundings, a white room with padded places as I look down to myself, my arms tied by a strange jacket.
It was always fun seeing new places.
But
I always end up right where I started.
I nod and stand up, my small figure skipping to the front.
And as such, the day repeats again.

just saw myelin's new video (here) and i think i agree with it, mostly. i talked before about how i think the winnower might be the one feeding sweet lies to the witness and how it possibly did the same to maya, but there were some things in lore that made me doubt that. but i've been thinking more about that and unfortunately i have no self control so you guys gotta suffer my nonsense.
(tldr: i will never abandon you, unveiling).
darkness bad?
here are my problems with the idea of the winnower being the serpent in the garden (taken directly from the post linked above):
the sword logic is heavily implied to be nonsense. it’s just something the witness used to control the hive & mold them into what it needed to work towards the final shape. the witness itself never mentions anything resembling the sword logic ideology bc it has no interest in it. see how each of its disciple had a different idea of what idea the final shape is, bc the witness told them what they needed to believe to further its goals. the sword logic was what the hive needed to believe. the end.
the latest purpose entry gives more credibility to this ^. xivu arath might mention the sword logic and the final shape as the same thing but the witness never does. it lets her believe it, but we never see it defend the sword logic itself.
the darkness itself is not bad!!! or so the game has been telling us for years now!!! it makes no sense that the darkness entity would just be bad again, after all the trouble they went through to establish the witness as a voice in the darkness and not the darkness itself. why would they make sure we understood that the witness is not bad because it uses the darkness only to make the darkness bad again anyway?
the whole idea of the winnower being a believer/creator of the sword logic makes no sense in a universe where the sword logic is implied to be nonsense.
but i think i found my peace with at least one of these points: the darkness not being bad by default. i was too stuck in what it would mean for the narrative (darkness bad, then darkness neutral, then darkness bad again etc) but that was because i was also too stuck in what the light is from a narrative standpoint. because the light isn't good. what proof do we have of that? the traveler seems nice enough, sure, but ghosts are supposedly acting under its will and many chose the hive and the warlords. there is nothing pre-programmed in lightbearers to make them good, so the same can be (and has been) said about the darkness. my point is, there is nothing inherent to the light, to the traveler, that makes it so it is good. the traveler might be good, but not because it is of the light.
that could work for the winnower as well. darkness isn't good or bad. the ecumene were not evil. the hive certainly is. so darkness, as in, the power itself, isn't evil. the winnower might be, though not because it is of the darkness.
does that make sense?
though this way of thinking opens many doors re: what the traveler and the winnower (if it exists, that is) are. can they be of the light/of the darkness, but not the embodiment/source of it? if so, what is the source of these powers? if not, does that mean they are the source of these two forces, but have no influence in how said forces are used? the traveler doesn't seem to have much influence at all, but it is wounded, so who knows what it could do when it was healed?
sword logic is nonsense
is it?
i'm not so sure now. i pointed out in the bullet points above that the witness doesn't seem to care much about the sword logic. i've mentioned before that the goals of the witness and the winnower seemed different, with the witness (at the time) searching for a way to end unnecessary suffering and the winnower going all in for the survival of the fittest. both wanted the final shape, but while the witness craved meaning the winnower seemed to want order, a pattern, the universe acting as it should. they feel very different because the witness' desire for meaning comes from a place that, to me, is of anguish/pain/despair - of emotion, basically. it wants to end suffering (yet it caused SO much suffering - but i see it as an ending justifies the means kind of deal) because it suffered for having no meaning at all. the winnower's voice is very different. it doesn't feel very emotional at all.
...that was what i thought, but i was rereading the unveiling and:
All you will do, I said, with rising panic|fury, is delay the dominant pattern that will overrun the others. It is inevitable. One final shape. "No, it'll be different. Everything will be different, everywhere you look." Everything will be the same. Your new rule will only make great false cysts of horror full of things that should not exist that cannot withstand existence that will suffer and scream as their rich blisters fill with effluent and rot around them, and when they pop they will blight the whole garden. Whatever exists because it must exist and because it permits no other way of existence has the absolute claim to existence. That is the only law.
this is from the first knife entry.
sure, it doesn't sound like the winnower is that worried about said suffering existing as much as it is worried that said suffering will "blight the whole garden." but it still doesn't want this unnecessary suffering. it wants order, a pattern, because it doesn't believe said pattern can be changed at all. and, at the time, i believe it was right.
the entry continues:
"No," the gardener said, "I am the growth and preservation of complexity. I will make myself into a law in the game." And thus we two became parts of the game, and the laws of the game became nomic and open to change by our influence. And I had only one purpose and one principle in the game. And I could do nothing but continue to enact that purpose, because it was all that I was and ever would be.
the universe before the gardener and the winnower became "parts of the game" could not have its final shape changed. but the universe after they did so could and can. i always saw the winnower as an entity that wanted to keep the final shape as it was before the gardener decided to meddle with the rules, but what if what it wants is to return to a universe without these new rules instead? if we assume that the vex were the final shape, it's not so much that the winnower wants to keep them in the podium in first place as much as it wants the game back to a rule set that would naturally settle in the vex as the winners. i dont think it cares for the vex at all - it cares for the game as it was instead of as it is now.
so the winnower and the witness's goals are practically the same. i think the witness saw said "glimpse to the beginning" and was furious that meaning was stripped from the universe when the gardener changed the rules. before, everything had a purpose: to lead to a natural, true final shape. but that meaning was gone the moment the rules changed - now everything and nothing can happen, and there is no end goal the universe is slowly working towards. the universe just is.
i don't imagine that, for example, the sword logic as the hive sees it would ever exist in that gardener-free universe. the flowers dying or thriving was something natural, the same way that nations and empires and races died or thrived in the universe, no contact with light or darkness necessary. but the hive's sword logic is an active force - it is not the hive minding their own business and letting destiny things take their own course, falling or rising for whatever reason. the hive's sword logic is based on the original rules of the universe, and if said rules were intact it wouldn't be necessary for a race to go around hellbent on making its final shape come true. the final shape would come true naturally.
so yeah, maybe the hive's sword logic is nonsense because it is trying to impose an old set of rules in a universe that is not bound by it anymore. and it is nonsense because it only does so through violence and extermination, but that was not the way of the flower game at all. a lone flower did not survive, for example.
so:
the winnower wants the universe back to its pre-gardener/winnower rules.
the witness wants the same, but it isn't worried about the game like the winnower is: it wants meaning, and sees the pre-gardener/winnower universe as one with meaning and the one we have now as one without meaning. there is the possibility that the winnower is manipulating the witness into thinking like this. we know some of the unveiling is true, some of the unveiling is propaganda, but we don't know which is which. to me, the biggest thing about the unveiling is that it paints the gardener as the wrong one - the one who does not care about all the suffering it is about to inflict, the one who just wants to spicy things up because it is bored. that could be the lie. maybe the winnower was the wrong one, though i can't phantom how.
the hive's sword logic is nonsense because it is artificial, witness-made and single-minded. but it is based on ideas the witness and (possibly) the winnower see as truthful.
the witness doesn't want the universe as the hive's perceived deathmatch. it does not care for it. that's why it seems so dismissive in that last entry of the purpose lore book. xivu arath's idea of a final shape is one based on the millions of years she and her family spent ending civilizations and thus proving their worthiness to exist. the witness' final shape is based on the universe with inherent meaning, where no race would never need to prove its worthiness bc their existence, even if cut short, was one more step towards a final goal.
post final shape
and here i mean final shape as in the expansion.
i quite like this theory but there is one small problem that honestly might invalidate it all: the light vs darkness sagas ends in the final shape. so, even if we defeat the witness there, the darkness aka the winnower would still be very much alive, no? it makes no sense to end the light vs darkness saga and still leave the big bad darkness-fuelled villain-behind-the-villain alive. but at the same i just can't see us defeating the witness and the winnower in the final shape.
i guess we will know more on the showcase this august but it feels a bit impossible. i can see a few scenarios where it works out - as far as we know, if the winnower does exist it is beyond the veil and if we leave the veil alone it just can't do shit. or maybe we could just flat out destroy the veil in final shape and cut off the winnower and its rulemaking plans forever. but idk. if the rumors/theories about the vex as the main enemy post-final shape are true, and if they do learn how to simulate paracausality, maybe that does indicate that the winnower is gone for good. who knows!!
in the end, i just really love the unveiling and want the winnower to exist buuuuuut that is growing more and more unlikely lol

As the person to go to right now for correct Pokemon opinions I gotta know your thoughts on Incineroar
Tumblr media
(I tried to search your blog to see if you already shared your thoughts and saw nothing I'm sorry if you've already said something about them)
if incineroar had 20% more of an hourglass figure we'd be blessed with some of the greatest furry awakenings since the lucario movie
like. is it blatant furbait? duh. obviously. but it's still hot, despite that, and that's all in the characterization.
In any character design, the more human it is, the more personality it needs before it just gets boring. robot and mech design can ride on pure cool shape language alone, whereas pictures of humans read as boring unless they tell a good story. think how many times you've seen anime girls with their tits out, and yet they only stand out from the crowd when there's a narrative around them.
pokemon does not always nail this. pokemon's humanoid furbait designs sometimes fall flat. alakazam is kinda just some guy. machoke is just some guy. hypno, despite his obvious kink potential, really is otherwise just some guy. sawk and throh are anthrofied musclebound versions of atlas and peabody from portal, and yet they're still. both. just some guy. gothitelle is just some girl. medicham and sneasel and mienshao are just some girl. and yet, then, we have the ones that tell a story. look at our friend lucario, as i mentioned. he's got a whole movie and is the #1 most popular pokemon on e621 and no, im not counting "eeveelution" because that's an umbrella tag. and we look to the others. to the mega lopunny, with her ripped tights. we go to slaking, with his vibe of a soft cozy lazy daddy. we go to the great zoroark - his shapeshifting abilities lead to all sorts of fantasies. and then we get to incineroar. the heel wrestler - the bad boy or girl who doesn't play by the rules. already a sexy role. both male and female incineroars look like this, so even lesbians like me can get in on some butch fantasizing here. it's someone who's strong, but who plays rough. unlike the kindness in lucario's aura reading or the psychic protection of a gardevoir, you know there's an edge to this danger. you won't die, but you're going to be incredibly sore and bruised tomorrow. and with its powers? burned a little, too. it's a hot person who puts out a cigarette on your thigh to show you your place.
