the burren: Italian wedding

I was on the hunt for soup tonight and I didn't even know it. I left to buy weed, but on my way, had a hankering for soup. I love soup, and it is my favorite food. where could I get soup on my way home from the weed store? having gone to my local grocery the night before, I had previewed their soups. they looked ok, edible. when I arrived to the same place this evening, I was really ready to taste 'em. guess what, those dumbass losers cleaned their soup vats out. dry as a mother. ok! bye bitch - I walked across the street to the burren, where the soups of the day were Italian wedding and roasted vegetable.

roasted vegetable sounded gross, so I opted for Italian wedding. the vibe was nice & I didn't mind waiting, and once my soup was ready, a kindly Irish man helped me get both my backpack and my coat on, and I wasn't even struggling that much. very nice personnel & clientele.

the soup:

it's pretty ok. that's the best I can say for it. it got me to eat a lot of pork (or at least I assume, I didn't actually ask about what was in the mini meatballs). there were like 2 pearls of pasta in my soup, but lets be honest: who prefers an Italian wedding soup where the ratio is pasta pearls>sausage balls? no one. this isn't scientifically true, nor is it actually true. its my truth. and that's all that matters.

availability: 9/10 (comparison to the crappiest grocery store of all time providing extra extra extra points)

vibe: 9/10 good vibes, all servers were so nice and kind. and someone helped me get ready for the cold outside (don't think he was an employee, doesn't matter, he def contributed to overall vibe)

soup rating: 6/10

summation: I would gladly accept a small portion of this soup even if I was slightly sated

the pic of the soup doesn't do it justice. it is a solid 6/10

addendum: unfortunately I have to change my rating to 0/10. at 5:00 the next morning, I woke up feeling uncomfy in bed. went to couch, started feeling tired again, headed back to bed. as I walked toward bed, a sudden wave of nausea washed over me. It was so sudden I only had the two empty water glasses on my nightstand to turn to, and vomitted into each of them. I had a lil extra vom left by the time I brought them to the sink (although 3rd vom could have been due to how truly disgusting the entire situation was). I have no other explanation for this vom-aly (vomit + anomaly) besides my consumption of the soup. so sorry to the burren but it is what it is.

The cenotes of the Yucatán have been a truly informative time of visual investigation- literally entering the earth to beautiful colors, sensual forms, and the ripples of time. Much like the trees above that morph to the surroundings, each “cave” is different- some with large openings in the limestone making “exterior” open air swimming wholes, some enclosed like being in a hive with little pockets of light shinning through (I liked that one the best), others like you’re walking under a landbridge with a smallish pocket of water where you can cool off from the big heat above. Many many more pics that together with images gathered from the trees above will fuel the my drawing and painting practice for some time. This follows in my studio interests in growth and decay (it was the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs that have created these serene and spiritual places) and how this relates to interior and exterior landscape- they are literally an inside and outside experience. Others thoughts that spring to mind as I reflect on them…from my grad thesis…on how caves can become shelter while also causing fear of being trapped. And the cave as a vessel- holding the fragile and necessary water- where the depths changes over time- ebbing and flowing. Then of course there is a big connection to my Fulbright research a decade ago in #theburren #ireland - working in a valley of limestone that supports Mediterranean and sub-arctic flora and fauna. And the caves underneath that limestone that make it possible.
