Just for fun, here are my rapid fire rambling thoughts on the ATLA ships and platonic dynamics hehe (please don’t go full ship wars tho - these are just my opinions as a chill multishipper!)

My Favorite Ships:

• Zukka - My current brainrot and main ship!! I know they aren’t canon but I really love them and their potential okay😭I just feel like their personalities would work so well! Sokka would call Zuko on his shit and Zuko would be good at grounding Sokka when he needs it. Plus I have seen some absolutely breathtaking AUs with this ship! And fire-and-ice vibes except gay! Them <3

• Kataang - Cutiessss!! I love them! They may not be the ship I think about most often, but when I do think about them, they’re adorable! Aang is such a “my wife” guy and Katara absolutely adores him back! Also the last airbender x last southern waterbender dynamic goes HARD! I like that these two are canon!

• Yuetara - Listen I know they barely interacted but THEY’VE ACTUALLY GROWN ON ME SO MUCH LATELY AND I VERY HIGH KEY SHIP THEM! Something about like, Katara thinking about Yue when she bends is so😭Their story would be heartbreaking in the best way!! Sapphic noncanon blorbos <3

• Mailee - These two are SO cute and have so much potential rahhh!! Again, love some noncanon sapphics <3

• Batkoda - Super SUPER cute and silly and fun! The dads fr <3 Bato is either Katara and Sokka’s adopted uncle or their stepdad and I love it for them hehe! This usually pairs well with a “Hakoda adopts Zuko” AU lmao!

Other Canon/Relatively Popular Ships:

• Zutara - A pretty good ship! I see the potential and tbh it’s very very fun to think about sometimes!!! However, some of y’all toxic Zutara stans need to leave my boy Aang alone lmao. Those who are chill tho, I rock with y’all!! Overall, I’m not opposed if it’s done well and I do occasionally seek out Zutara content! I personally do prefer seeing/writing them as found siblings tho, especially with the Azula and Katara parallels!!

• Sukka - Canon cuties!! I really like them! Suki my BELOVED <3 She’s so underrated!

• Yukka - Also canon cuties! They make me sad tho ahhhhh😭😭😭

• Maiko - Also ALSO canon cuties!! They have an interesting dynamic that I can really appreciate! And gotta love Mai <3

• Jinko - Jin my beloved! These two had a super cute dynamic during the one episode they had together lmaoooo, tho I don’t think about this ship too too often.

• Tokka - I don’t mind it if it’s them getting together as adults! But tbh I personally don’t prefer shipping them as teens and I think Toph’s crush was just a typical young girl crush on someone slightly older lol. Definitely not horrible and most Tokka shippers are relatively chill! I like to think Sokka sees Toph as a little sister tho.

Now For Some Of The Crackship-y/Less Popular Ships (based on ships I’ve actually seen):

• Zukki (Zuko/Sokka/Suki) - Power throuple fr and I love some polyamory!! While I mostly lean plain Zukka, this is extremely fun to think about and would be a great dynamic!

• Mai/Ty Lee/Suki - Saw this in a Zukka fic once and it was adorableeeeee! I may not have plans to actively write this or anything, but it’s cute! Another power throuple!

• Jetko - I don’t think they would be compatible long term, but by god they are very very fun to think about in a “Jet flirts with Zuko and Zuko is completely oblivious and they share one kiss before everything goes to shit” way lmao!

• Taang - I can respect it!! I will always love them as chaos siblings personally, but it’s a totally valid and chill ship!

• Katoph - Not a bad ship at all! I’ve only come across like one post tho lmao. Also I do think I heavily prefer them as found sisters, but that’s just me personally! Again, totally a valid and chill ship!

• Azutara - I’m very neutral on this lmao. I don’t despise it at all and it could be pretty interesting?? But tbh really not something I plan to seek out.

• Azulaang - I mean?? I’m also pretty neutral on this one. Aang would be kind to her if she was trying to get help but…idk lmao.

• Tyzula - I see the potential, but I personally think Mai and Ty Lee had a healthier and more interesting and more realistic dynamic. Just my preference tho!

(I think I just want Azula to be in therapy before I reallyyyyy ship her lmao, but NOT THE KIND OF “THERAPY” SHE WAS GIVEN IN THE COMICS)

• Zukaang - I don’t love this as a ship honestly. The canon age gap as teens is sketchy for my personal taste, tho I’ve seen people ship them in “Aang was 16 when he got frozen” AUs and that’s…better and I can get behind it a little! It would be interesting! But I think Roku being Zuko’s great-grandpa just still throws me off of this ship. I don’t have any beef with the shippers tho! I’m very “live and let live” and I have seen so much worse lol.

Can’t Forget My Fav Platonic Dynamics!

• Sokka and Aang - Two found brothers who share one idiot braincell when they interact LMAO! Love them always <3

• Sokka and Katara - The siblings ever!!

• Zuko and Aang - Enemies to found brothers!! Canon besties! I love their friendship and their parallels SO MUCH!!

• Toph and Katara - Absolutely ADORABLE as found sisters!!!! Love them!

• Zuko and Katara - I really like their development in a platonic sense and I think they’re very very fun and lovely found siblings by the end!!!! Zuko is 100% the brother that just “yeah my sister can and will whoop your ass” LMAO!

• Zuko and Toph - Also very found siblings in my head!! Only have a handful of solo interactions in canon but I DON’T CARE! I WILL FOUND FAMILY THEM ANYWAY! I’m a “Toph seeks out Zuko for sibling hugs/cuddles when she’s cold because he’s basically a space heater” truther.

• Uncle Iroh and the Gaang - Zuko needs to learn to share because that is ALL OF THEIR Uncle!!!

• Hakoda and Zuko - I thrive in this section of the fandom!! They have exactly one (1) frame together in canon, but I ADORE Dadkoda adopting Zuko! Something about it is just so wholesome and cute!!! My very very fav ATLA fics are this trope!!#LetHakodaBitchSlapOzaiAndAdoptZuko2024

• Uncle Iroh and Zuko - God they make me so ALSNDKSNXNCNSNSNXNX, y’know?

• The Gaang as a whole - Obvious I know, but I really do love them😭They all bonded sm and I adore their little family!! I eat up fanart of the Gaang cuddling like CANDY omg. And yes Suki is included in the Gaang because WHY WOULDN’T SHE BE!

Mak, I need your opinion on the Jake x Neytiri x Tsu'tey ship (as our resident (queen) Tsu'tey writer and throuple writer). I especially need your opinion on Jake x Neytiri x human reader x Tsu'tey... Like could you imagine?!

Being trapped between Jake and Tsu'tey as Neytiri watches touching herself. Or both men watch reader and Neytiri go at. Or even better, all three of them taking turn after turn with reader.

Like it completely blind-sided Tsu'tey that he would even be 'okay' around Jake, let alone like him (or grow to love him (Jake x Tsu'tey is apparently a ship)) enough to be in a throuple with him and Neytiri. It floors him when Jake's best friend has such a flirty friendship (relationship) with him and Tsu'tey can see Jake's repressed feelings and Tsu'tey actually finds reader... likable? Like he likes a Sky Person that's not Jake. HOLY SHIT!

Neytiri is sitting there watching her boys and internally thinking, "Why are these silly boys fawning over a tawtute? A very pretty tawtute... Beautiful, no, gorgeous actually... Oh, Great Mother... I LIKE WOMEN???"

And now all three of them have to figure out how the fuck they're going to go about courting reader without scaring her. They were really different from each other, let alone. I mean, Neytiri doesn't trust people in general and showed her affection for Jake through hissing and hitting him, Tsu'tey has the emotional range of a rock and is surprised he's even mated to anyone let alone two people at the current moment, and Jake didn't court Neytiri at all and got mated for life to her after bonding not knowing that he's locked down for life now.

They're doomed! Yet so enticed...

i loooooveeeee!! i don't think i'd ever write it, but i genuinely adore this dynamic! fun fact; it was actually a jake x tsu'tey fic that initially got me into avatar!!

i don't always love poly ships, but when they're done well, they're so good. and the idea of being just a small delicate human surrounded by your much larger na'vi lovers is just so skgjksdjgksdgrh i'm feeling feral. they're all so wildly different too, i feel like they'd just work so well together

most of the dynamic is for sure going to be reader and neytiri chilling together and cuddling and giving each other orgasms while tsu'tey and jake are acting like absolute morons as they try to compete with each other lmaoooo

they are both so special to me thank you for asking. i know this isn’t what you asked for but my brain is empty. also if you haven’t played amnesia. you should. i only got into otome games this summer and i played our life (BEST GAME) and then amnesia was my second and my first japanese otome. and it. is very special to me because of this. and shin was my first route and his is the best to start off with i think. i can be very into transforming various love triangles into throuples, as seen by my various quote unquote agendas, i think. that said, my least favorite variety of this and one i think can sometimes play into some sexist dynamics is the one where the woman (when a woman is present) tells the men involved that they have feelings for each other, and then like. watches approvingly while they get together. perhaps figuratively winks at the camera a bit.

Like i’m sure this can be done in ways i would not think feed into sexist dynamics. but it tends to read, to me, as the woman character basically processing each man’s emotions for them, at times even naming their emotions for them, allowing them to engage in the complexity of their relationship with one another, while her relationship to either of them is made simple, and vaguely nurturing. like oh these silly boys are so lucky that she was around to make sure everyone got along, and now everyone can be happy, since she has used her intuitive grasp of people’s emotions to make sure that everyone’s on the same page. do you see what i mean about the potential sexism. do you see how this can scan this way, depending on how its being written, or framed.

this isn’t me saying love triangle -> throuple relationships are bad, or even like. me trying to accurately name a trend in fandom, i am in no position to talk about trends in fandom i simply do not pay enough attention to what is common and prevalent. it is more me trying to explicate why certain treatments of certain forms of relationships irritate me.

oh no decisions and being given freedom to talk about anything....

I just rlly care them lots <3 I could talk an essay about the ship, they're beloved to me. they're really sweet, and they make me smile lots!! they compliment each other rlly well as charas and as a dynamic-- I love how they both uplift each other's strengths and help them grow past their weaknesses. friends to lovers is a ship dynamic that I'm v soft for and I think they do it rlly well and respectfully,,, I sent a little ship meme I made ages ago last post that talks about a few silly headcanons but they just fulfill a lot of tropes that I love.

it's really interesting to me that they parallel each other a lot-- they both end up visibly questioning what they're doing and the team that they're a part of, but are trapped in it for different reasons. they're both kinda the one spot of normalcy for the other in Meteor-- which isn't a good environment for either of them to be trapped in. both of them seem pretty reluctant to battle the player (i.e. stuff like using gimmick sets, visible reluctance and dialogue surrounding fights), and only do so because of orders and obligations-- I get the feeling that the MC in a story instead of a game (and absolutely plan on capitalizing on this) would absolutely pick up on the fact that both of them never really... try. both of them just don't really ever want to fight you-- whereas some other characters like Blake, Zero, Fern, etc will pretty much always throw everything they've got. that along with them being really close in age (canonically! the exact ages are left ambiguous, as is the same for most other characters, but it's mentioned that they're very close in age) and they just are both really fun to talk about and to draw and write together. I love how they still are there for each other even when Meteor's no longer a thing and I love thinking about how much both of them finally having that freedom can help both their relationship and them as characters grow.

it's an AU but it's also pretty heavily canon-based in terms of characterization (although events diverge a lot from canon!) so I love the two of them in Margo's AU as well-- Martakace (Meteorshowershipping) is one of my fav ships along with Takace (Royalcourtshipping) rn <3

rambles under the cut bc this is OC stuff that I have shared custody over with some friends so it's not as pertinent to the original ask, so cutting it here in case you don't want to read!

HI if you're here! i have SO many thoughts about martakace and MC/Ace/Taka as a polyship outside of Margo bc they're a power throuple hdfsdf. since Ace doesn't send their letter, now neither of them know where to go, and they end up leaving to the desert together. neither are really very prepared, and they're both kinda in a rush so they don't have many supplies beyond food and healing items and their backpacks. they can't use their PC of course since Terra would zero onto them in an instant so they only have the teams that they carry on them (Ace's is modified a little to split between the mons they share on other teams), although they miss their other Pokemon dearly.

they end up sleeping on the sand together one night and wake up to find Margo on the platform the next day and the reaction is panic initially. Margo's absolutely been able to tell that neither of them have really wanted to fight throughout the game and they see that these two people are panicked and unprepared and just. protec. Taka and Ace are panicked on the other hand and just think "okay if they're here then the others aren't far behind and then it's gameover for us." so they're a mix between terrified and betrayed and resigned. but then the three of them are traveling together and they're just both. confused. Taka and Ace are obviously very close with each other but here they're kind of questioning whether this is even the same person that they heard rumors of with meteor? and Margo calls them friends for the first time and it's kinda the start of both of them developing a sort of puppy love crush-- where it's kind of just that Margo is very cool and thoughtful and kind to them. their feelings for each other are obviously the kind of thing that's never been acted upon-- Margo encourages them to be more open with themselves as well as with each other-- so Taka and Ace end up getting together in Train Town after having a first kiss one night very late in their travels when the three of them are stuck on top of Teknite at night. Margo refuses to take the Gible when they're all in Sugiline and adopts a Trapinch instead, and doesn't take the sword either when the three of them are atop the tower.

Margo just encourages both of them to be more open-- Taka to be more confident, and Ace that it's okay to be vulnerable and to put themself first sometimes-- since they have a habit of neglecting themself in favor of worrying about others (such as Taka and Margo). Taka and Ace help each other grow and end up growing closer as friends due to being able to communicate more, and grow into not just being used to acting as stepping stones-- but instead wanting to actively help others and do things. there's a lot of other canon divergences-- Labradorra City+tournament and Victory Road are big ones due to both Ace and Taka being involved in that and in a relationship now, and their feelings for Margo growing more (they don't get together until postgame after Margo comes back from the New World, though, so it's slowburn on that end).

there's so much more but I . will stop rambling. thank you for listening shdfsdkfsd I will talk more about either of them until the cows come home but this ask is getting too long and I'm getting embarrassed. I love them v much <3

okay yeah i'm so sorry to everyone the cotapepunch post from earlier has made me think about them and i'm not going to shut about these guys for a while i'm so sorry but also not

this is like. extremely long shoutout to anyone who reads this whole thing (also it's pretty sad bc well. you know i'm going to talk about their backstories like you know it's coming. it gets a lot less sad by the end though i promise,,). i'm sorry if some of it does not make sense i did not sleep at all as of writing this

okay so. whenever i mention these guys really i feel like i either just. either feel like i go "hehe yes they are my silly gays and i love them :)" or just like. off-handedly mention the stuff they individually go through but i never really. detail their full dynamic

like. at the very core of it my main two descriptions of this is like when i first came up with it the general premise was "three gay losers/fools dating one of which likes to believe they're the least bad of the others or at least tries to ACT like it but they are just as bad if not worse at times" bc while i liked tapepunch a lot i was like! adding copen to that would be very funny and cute bc of how they are both in canon and how mine is specifically since jp was always meant to be a pathetic asshole who's a complete loser at times,, and it was! but at the same time it's also just. "three guys who are still coming to terms with the struggles of their previous lives genuinely being shitty and having to live with that while trying to support each other to the best of their ability"

(which really. my los' general dynamic can be boiled down to "group of people who all generally had shitty backgrounds to some extent who try to support each other and be the sort of family/support that they never had when growing up" but i mean like this is the other specific dynamic we have going on for cotapepunch in my los)

so like. i've established that these things like the whole multiple deaths, backstories, and hell the whole mind control thing (which i do not go into much detail about since it's sort of hard to explain but at the same time this is like one of the few instances of that thing that i'm comfortable detailing (...iiiitt's mainly just that stuff like that outside of when i personally write it does make me at least a lil uncomfortable <3)) genuinely still affect my los. like these guys never got a proper chance to fully. grasp just how fucked up some of this shit was until post-game au hits because for the entirety of pmtok well! yeah it was pmtok and it wasn't like their lives were exactly the best in their first lives

so for them post-game is finally. when they actually have a genuine second chance at life. and for my cotapepunch this hits them like. very hard

because they've never gotten the chance to really function as a throuple in that kind of setting before! they only really got together in pmtok after a few weeks of getting revived (and there's. reasons for that. both because cotape and tapepunch actually did know each other prior and also bc it at least makes sense to me as to why it happened. kinda quickly or at least from that perspective). and then there's the whole memory loss thing w/ getting revived again and it was. a whole thing. but when they do get those memories back fully and eventually get back together they now have to figure out. functioning while also having to deal with the aforementioned stuff from earlier

and like! these guys are very cute together and they genuinely do love and care about each other but! it is not a perfect relationship at all and like no relationship is perfect but it's like. w/ these guys you can kinda just tell if you live around them for long enough? like it's not very often that it happens but like. they will fight and i mean like serious fighting like this is a fact

because i've at least kinda mentioned it here but like. taniel is a guy who has really bad issues with trusting people after being left to die by his old crew and he genuinely feels like beating the ice vellum will fix all of his emotional issues relating to that (oooh boy and this isn't even. touching on his relationship with his parents like neither are the best). holt is someone who was actively fucked over by xyr family and ended up running away and while xe did get adopted by king shroomses and started recovering from it all, xe was still stabbed in the back and killed by some relatives and even then everything that's happened still sticks with xem hard. jp is literally an ex-soldier who tried his best to protect those closest to him but ultimately failed (robin is the main example but also. a reminder that he was an ex-soldier), and genuinely tried to do the right thing to make up for his past mistakes but ended up just adding to it as well (see: saxen and her father's deaths). and that's not even including pmtok and the fact that my los gijinkas as partners au is in fact part of their canon so it's just. yeah they're still dealing with that

taniel genuinely struggles with trusting people, and that's not excluded to jp and holt. he's genuinely scared of losing people close to him again, and doing something that causes a repeat of the whole crew betrayal thing. he will think that he needs to do something on his own or keep something to himself to protect himself from that, and gets terrified when it backfires on him. holt blames xemself for a lot of shit that isn't even xyr fault, has very little self-confidence in xemself like at all (never outright shows it bc well. sometimes it's easier for xem to act like xe has confidence than be honest), has a lot of nasty thoughts that xe never really says out loud that are partially influenced by how xyr parents raised xem but also just struggling to always see the good in people at times, and also just internalizes anything that's even remotely negative about xem and feels like it's true. jp already struggles with just social interaction in general and purposefully avoids it because they know they aren't good at it and are very much aware of the fact that they're an asshole at times. they know they're really bad with emotions both with themself and figuring it out with other people, so it really does lead them to say things they genuinely don't mean at heart but are really fucking mean at times. and it's like,, they're genuinely trying because they really do care! but they mess up enough to the point where they struggle to see the point in trying to be nice since they often feel like nobody really sees that

so it's like. these guys will end up fighting because of these things and it's like. yeah because while they want to communicate w/ each other more it's like. there are very specific things that these guys won't open up about (taniel's whole motivation to keep fighting the ice vellum, holt being adopted by king shroomses + xyr death, and jp well. y'know. the whole thing with saxen and orrick/her dad). and like for reasons that make sense but like. it'll conflict and it does blow up if it's like a constant thing that one of them refuses to address like taniel constantly fighting the ice vellum

but at the same time i think at the same time. it's also what helps them in a way. because it's like. holt honestly does struggle w/ seeing the good in people at times but like! xe's seen that taniel is trying his best to be better despite his moments of lashing out, and tries his best to make up for them (like this is. especially seen w/ saxen like no joke this is mainly what helped convince jp and holt both that taniel really was trying to change). and when it comes to jp, holt is still obviously hurt by some of the things said but xe notices enough stuff that makes holt feel that jp isn't really that much of an asshole and does try to be nice if you're like. patient w/ them. jp is initially dismissive of his attitude towards the other two but holt keeps Coming Back (and eventually taniel) and it confuses the hell out of him. and while they bond over various things jp tries to consciously filter himself more and understand what he should/shouldn't say around them bc he genuinely doesn't want to hurt their feelings since he's grown close to them and will genuinely apologise if he messes up which is. something he does not do often. taniel genuinely tries to trust his boyfriends a lot more even though it's again. something he struggles with a lot for good reason because he knows they're both trying their best with him and he really wants to be able to give them that same level of trust, or at least honesty

...and then on the lighter side they're just really silly and sweet together sdfgh. like i did just go on that whole tangent yes but i do feel the need to stress that it's something that they really keep private and it's not something that comes up a lot, at least in the case of holt and jp's personal stuff that would absolutely cause Some Shit (or in holt's case xe feels like it will w/ one of 'em). w/ taniel's it's absolutely something they'd be working on for a long while but like! it's a process

like. these guys love pulling pranks on the others at times like especially tapepunch and cotape especially. holt literally tells taniel about some of xyr other demigod powers just so they can go mess with people, and jp and taniel literally recreate the several incidents of jp throwing red paint onto taniel and pretending it's blood. it's genuinely the funniest shit to them both

holt and taniel often get jp into doing more things that she normally would like. never do at all. or just never had the confidence to do really. they take her fishing once and it's the best worst experience of her life. another time they take her out dress shopping and she's genuinely so happy since like. normally jp would just ask robin to make her a dress and while jp really likes the ones robin makes she also wants to go look at dresses on her own time <3

holt usually just watches jp draw and. while she isn't the most used to people just watching her draw she's the most comfortable with holt doing it since when it does talk it's usually to compliment the art sdfg. taniel does sometimes too but he usually just falls asleep on jp's shoulder but she thinks it's cute so <3 (but otherwise he doesn't speak much either like. less so than holt. like if he's around people he knows well enough he's not much of a talker. it's more of a sign of comfort for him really)

sometimes holt and taniel literally just physically fight each other for fun wsdfg. like no reason at all sometimes they do it just because they can.

sometimes holt and jp will take taniel to any sort of aquarium just so he can look at marine plants like. dunno if i mentioned it here specifically but taniel is into marine botany. like he's very awkward about it but his boyfriends know and like. they will use it to their advantage to convince taniel to do smth if possible (ex. "promise me you won't get us banned from another restaurant" "...ehhh" "we can go to the aquarium to look at plants afterwards" "stop bribing me with things you know will work this is so unfair (it's a yes)")

and then like. all of them will cuddle together a lot like holt is already naturally very warm bc fire demivellumental but also. they just like cuddling a lot it's like their go-to when any of them are upset about something

i will end this here bc getting tired but like. cotapepunch my fucking beloved i think about them so much yet don't draw them often nor write about them that often either. i do focus on like taniel and holt the most out of them but like. note that i love the three losers a lot hgfd

I watched a lot more thai dramas that were okay and mostly enjoyable, but these are my favourites!! They have genuine interesting plot besides the gay love story ('Not me' has that too btw!!!!!). 3WBF has a poly throuple of sorts and they are on the run from the mafia, really thrilling, badass female characters. And ATOTS is also directed by P'Aof, who does bad buddy. I should also mention 'He's coming to me', also by p'aof and with ohm pawat (pat from bad buddy) in the lead role. It's a cute ghost love story!

Okay okay okay, nobuta wo produce, dele and smoking are imo criminally underrated dramas!!! At least on tumblr, I know nobuta was really popular in japan back then. I suspect dele might be more well known there too? I hope so because it's really really good and I love it!! I wish they would've made more seasons, the concept of this story is so clever and unique and the two leads have wonderful dynamic. I really recommend it, it's a gem. Smoking is a little brutal but my goodness, it has the most beautiful found family bonds.

Alice in borderland, so so good. Very popular since it's a big production, I'm sure I don't need to explain it. I'm so stoked for season two. Giri/haji is actually british japanese, it takes place in london and tokyo, they switch between talking english and japanese a lot. It's a crime drama involving mafia and there are cool swords and lgbtq+ storylines

I mean. Do I have to say it. The Untamed. The untamed!! It's been almost two years since I first watched it but wangxian still hold me captive, what can I say.

Detective L

Go ahead is a comfort watch, definitely. Really sweet and funny unusual family constellation and a slow burn romance. Guardian kinda gave me Torchwood vibes, I don't know why. I'm a bit disappointed with how they handled the story in the end, it felt a bit rushed and idk I would've made a few different choices in the story telling but aside from that, really fun modern fantasy, really gay.

Detective L, now this one I love so much!!!! Featuring the actor from guardian as detective Luo Fei, early 1930s in shanghai. It's very obviously inspired by sherlock holmes, but he's actually a likable character. His assistant is policewoman Xiaman, the first female detective at this station and she is badass!!!! Their romance is subtle and really adorable and sweet, but foremost they have a wonderful friendship dynamic. It's funny and silly and they bicker and tease eachother a lot. The crime cases are so well written and the costumes/settings/visuals are just 10/10 . I don't think many people have seen Detective L so I need to give it a bit of a boost :)
