Original story by sarcastically-defensive17
The lights were flashing all around them. Strobe flashes dancing across the skin of each person crowded on the dance floor.
The bass of the music was thumping through the building, shaking the floor and reverberating through Y/N’s chest.
It was the final show of the tour, which called for a celebration. As such, Ashton had declared that the four men, and their significant others attend one of the more lowkey clubs in L.A. as to not draw much attention and to be able to enjoy themselves and celebrate the long tour they had put their all into.
The night was going well. Y/N danced until her skin glistened with a thin layer of sweat, Calum stayed by her side for most of the night until he was pulled away to do shots with Michael and Crystal, leaving his girlfriend with KayKay at the bar.
She had put effort into her appearance, donning a fierce up-do and a sultry red lip. Calum could barely keep his eyes away from her all night, and she ravished the attention.
She hadn’t been with them for most of the tour, as she had her own work commitments, so she was more than ecstatic to have her love home, and to be able to catch their last show and celebrate afterwards.
She had missed the man that she spent many days waking up next to. Her bed had never felt so empty, and her and Duke visibly longed for the presence of the Maori man.
Even now, as she stood with KayKay, her eyes stayed locked on Calum. He was focused intently on the conversation he was engaged in with Ashton and Michael. Crystal said something that they all perceived as funny, and Y/N’s face split into a wide grin as she watched Cal throw his head back in a laugh.
His cheeks rounded more, allowing the apples of the muscles to stand out. His teeth were on show, an infectious display that could force many to mirror him. His eyes shrunk, lids overtaking until they looked near shut, crinkles at the corners as evidence of a lifetime of laughter and joy. His smile was her favourite thing to gaze upon.
KayKay leaned in close to distract her from her stares, near shouting, yet her words were still muffled by the thumping bass and the sound of voices all around them.
Both women had grown accustomed to the struggle of hearing over loud music, as they had both spent much time in the crowd watching their men perform.
“I’m going to head to the bathroom. Don’t get into too much trouble,” her purple haired friend winked, sending her an air kiss before strutting away.
Y/N and KayKay had been close since they met, and the former couldn’t thank her best friend enough for introducing her to Calum.
She watched her friends retreating figure before casting her eyes towards the bar and sending a smile to the bartender who placed her cocktail down. They had a tab going for the band, so her card was refused as she offered to pay.
A hand slid across her lower back and she leaned back into the feeling of the large appendage, believing it to be Calum.
“Hey pretty baby,” a voice whispered in her ear. It was an eerie tone that sent the hair on the back of her neck standing on end. Her body involuntarily jerked away from the person and met a smug grin on a pasty complexion.
The man in front of her would have been slightly attractive if she hadn’t already given her everything over to a man she believed to be twice the person that another could be. She was deeply in love with Calum, and no other could even begin to amount to the admiration she held for him.
“What’s a pretty little thing like you doing all alone?” The man transitioned his grin unto a smirk, and Y/N found herself disliking the feeling of his blue eyes on her. They traversed up and down her body, lingering on her chest.
“I’m here with my friends and my boy-“
“Can I buy you a drink?” He winked, disregarding her attempt to shut him down and the fact that she had a drink in her hand.
She sighed, placing her cup between the two of them on the bar, “No, thank you. I already have one. I’m really not interested, I’m sorry-“
He stepped closer to her, enveloping her in his scent of BO cutting through the overdone cologne. “You don’t need to play hard to get with me, baby. I can see that you’re dying for a good time.” He winked and she found herself wanting to throw her drink in his face.
She cringed, looking over to the direction of the bathrooms in hopes to see KayKay come out but she frowned at the sight of her friend with Ashton and Calum.
A sigh left her red tinted lips as she turned back to the man in front of her. She picked up her drink and downed the remainder of it before fixing him with a deep frown. “Im sorry, I’m really not interested. Please learn to take a hint.” Her cocktail glass clinked against the bar as she rushed to the bathroom.
She emptied her bladder, washed her hands and just stared at her reflection in the mirror. She always felt uneasy when sly people resisted taking a hint, and she wanted nothing more than to head to Calum and spend the rest of the night with him and their friends.
Her stomach felt like it was flipping within her abdomen and a wave of drowsiness overtook her. She hadn’t felt so dizzy in a long time and she was struck with confusion at the sudden wave. She had been in the bathroom for maybe 15 minutes, and it had come on so suddenly.
Her eyelids felt unnecessarily heavy. When she blinked, she was sure her eyes stayed closed for at least 10 seconds. She hadn’t felt like that before, and it brought anxiety to the top of her stomach. Her hands were shaky, almost numb as she lifted them to brush sweat from her, now glistening, forehead.
It was a struggle to pull the door open, but she breathed a sigh of relief as two women opened the offending blockage allowing for her escape. She needed to find Calum, something wasn’t right.
She had only downed two drinks, no where near enough to be this intoxicated, nor had she taken anything that sketchy people in the club had been offering.
Her stomach was flipping and she could feel her pulse pounding beneath her skin. The thudding was vibrating through her skull, doing nothing to quell the dizziness.
Calum was over the other side of the club, she knew that much, yet everywhere she stepped she connected with another person.
Hands had brushed across her feverish body, sending her nerves alight and the lighting was beginning to make her eyes ache.
She wandered across the dance floor, eyes searching for her brown-eyed boyfriend but to no avail.
She had grabbed many people to save herself from falling over, her heels doing nothing for her legs that felt as shaky as a baby deer’s.
A hand secured around her upper arm as she fell into another body. The familiar blue eyes stared down at her and she tightened her grip on the man.
“Luke! Where’s Calum?” She slurred, standing as best she could with her current condition. “Somethings wrong. D’know what happened.”
Luke knew that Y/N wasn’t okay. He had known the girl for a long time, and had spent much time with her, as she was the girlfriend of one of his best friends. Y/N wasn’t the type to get drunk often. He had only seen her have more than three drinks once, and even then, she maintained her composure almost perfectly.
This was out of the ordinary.
Sierra was alarmed immediately. Y/N looked physically sick, but what set her off more was the man that looped his arm around her friends waist.
“There you are, baby. I’ve been looking for you everywhere!” The main exclaimed, and Y/N gave him a tired look, unable to remove the offending arm.
“Excuse me, who are you?” Sierra gripped Y/N’s arm below Luke’s slowly tightening grip. Neither of them knew the man, and Sierra had a guess as to what his intentions were.
“I’m her boyfriend. Who do you think you are?” He glared at the two people, a smug grin on his face that sent a chill of anger down both Sierra and Luke’s spines.
“Si, go get Calum,” Luke told his girlfriend and she rushed off immediately, her small frame moving through the crowd quickly. “Look, mate, just let her go.”
“Are you deaf, asshole? She’s my girlfriend!” The man was getting angrier as the seconds passed and Y/N fell further and further out of consciousness.
“Bullshit.” Luke snapped. “What did you do to her?” His eyes were flaming with protectiveness. Y/N was part of his family and he felt every bone in his body wanting to hurt the man who had hurt her.
“I did nothing,” he grinned. “Now, if you don’t mind, my girl and I need to head home. As you can see, she’s a little under the weather.” His grin was sly, slimy. His eyes had a deeper motive hidden underneath the smirk and Luke’s stomach dropped at what he could imagine was going through the mans head.
“Like fuck you are,” a voice growled from behind the men, and the man who held Y/N turned with her body slumped against his in her now unconscious state. “Get your hands off of her before I break them.” Calum’s jaw was clenched, and he wanted nothing more than to throw his fist into the guys face but he wouldn’t do so while he had Y/N. He wouldn’t dare risk her getting hurt more so than she already had.
The man looses his grip slightly and Sierra grabbed a hold of Y/N. KayKay was on her other side, both supporting the woman as they led her outside and away from the men.
The man visibly retracted. His eyes became flitty, and his Adam’s apple jumped as he swallowed heavily. Calum easily had some height on him, and the addition of both Ashton and Michael behind him definitely did nothing to lessen the building fear.
“What did you do to her?” Calum growled once again, every fiber of him spinning with anger at the man who tried to take advantage of his girl. “What the fuck did you think you could do to her?”
The man stumbled over his words, stepping back slowly, only to hit into Luke who remained behind.
“I slipped something into her drink. Look man, I was just looking for a good time, s’all. I didn’t mean anything by it.” The man raised his hands, face paling.
“You didn’t mean anything by it? Well that just makes everything fine!” Calum snarls, laughing sarcastically with malice shaking his every syllable. He stepped closer, trapping the pervert between himself and the other guys. “If I ever catch you trying that shit with Y/N or anybody else, I will make you wish you never had the thought to do that. You think you can just roofie and rape people and excuse it? You’re fucking lucky that you didn’t get her out of the door.”
The man was shaking in fear now, his body trembling as he fought to draw his eyes away from the angry Maori in front of him.
“I have half a mind to beat the shit out of you right now, but I need to do make sure my girlfriend is okay. If I ever see your face again, you won’t know what fucking hit you, you piece of shit,” Calum snarled, his face so close to the man that he could feel the hot breath on his cheek as he was threatened.
Luke nodded at Calum over the head of the man, signaling for him to leave as the guys waited for the security guards being sent their way.
Calum was alight was rage. He wanted to cry, scream, beat the shit out of that guy and apologise to Y/N all at the same time.
How could he leave her alone? How could somebody think it was acceptable to do that to another person? The night could have ended horribly for her, and he would never be able to forgive himself if it had have.
Y/N was unconscious as the women helped Calum take her home, and she slept the entire night. Calum could barely will himself to walk away from her, let alone sleep. He slept for barely 3 hours that night.
A groan startled him as the sun rose, Y/N sitting up slowly. His shirt was polled around her legs, and she had dark circles underneath her eyes.
She was upright for barely a second before she was stumbling to the bathroom, followed by Calum who sat beside her with her hair secured in his hands.
He had made sure to get her out of her party clothes last night and into one of the many shirts she had stolen from him. His heart broke even more as he watched her empty the contents of her stomach.
The retching ceased after a few minutes and she attempted to stand, but failing on shaky legs.
“Hold on, baby,” Calum told her, grabbing a cup from the cabinet above the sink and filling it with water for her. “Here.”
“Thanks...” her hand was pressed against her forehead, memories of the night before appearing in fragments in her mind. She knew she hadn’t had much to drink, but it took her a few minutes to remember what happened the night before.
The feeling of the venomous blue eyes watching her. The tangy taste of her drink. The heaviness of his hand on her waist and the way her eyelids refused to stay open.
She felt as if she had been struck by the worst motion sickness possible, and guilt washed over her as she thought of how her actions must have ruined the previous night.
“Are you okay?” Calum moved his hand towards her slowly, waiting for any sign of disapproval before gently resting his hand on her knee.
She shook her head, trying to stop tears from falling as she thought of the man from the previous night. “I’m so sorry.” Her voice was barely above a whisper, and she didn’t raise her eyes to meet his.
If she had have, she would have seen the perplexed frown that he adopted. “What for?”
She sighed, hoping he would simply be mad at her, allowing her to forgo the explanation that she thought obvious to both of them.
“I should have been careful last night. I was stupid and because of me, I bet the night was ruined.”
“You should have been careful?” Calum gaped, watching as she softly nodded. “Babygirl you shouldn’t have to be careful.”
She rose her head, catching his eyes as he sat on the bathtub edge, staring down at her frame that was resting against the Basin cabinet. She cricked an eyebrow, confusion setting in her features.
“But I didn’t pay attention to my drink. If I hadn’t have found Luke-“
“A woman should be able to go to a damn bar and not need to worry about some sleezebag taking advantage of her, Y/N. I’ve been fighting with myself all night. I shouldn’t have left you alone, and I am so sorry that I left you to get into a position like that on your own, but you should be able to be fucking safe, on your own, in a fucking public space.” Anger was coursing through his body once again and he clenched his fists together, resting his forehead on them to try to hold back the angry tears. “A woman shouldn’t need to constantly have somebody witness her to guarantee her safety, and I want to ring that little assholes neck for thinking he could try and take advantage of you like that. I should have, but I didn’t. I should have been there for you, and with you. If you hadn’t have found Luke then I would never forgive myself.”
His shoulders began to shake softly, tears dripping down his forearms and onto the times beneath his feet.
She sat up on her knees and placed her hands on his shoulders to still his movements. Her own tears had been flowing for so long that she hadn’t realized the cool wetness on her flesh.
“Calum, baby, you have nothing to feel guilty about,” she met his brown eyes with her own orbs, his head shaking in disagreement as he sniffed. “You did absolutely nothing wrong. The only one to blame is that scum bag. I’m
going to report him today. I don’t want him to think he can try shit like that with any other person.”
“Want me to come with you?” He used his hand to brush some tears from her cheeks.
“Of course I do. I always want you with me, Cal,” she whispered to him, brushing the tears as they fell.
“I love you, and I’m so sorry that you went through that. I’m sorry I wasn’t there from the beginning.”
“It’s not your responsibility to watch over me constantly because other men think they have the right to do what they want to women whenever they want.” She smiled softly, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. “You have nothing to apologise for, my love. I’m just thankful that I have somebody like you to help me through this.”
“You’ve always got me, baby.” His eyes bored into hers with intensity, and she shifted forward to press her forehead against his.
“I need to thank Luke and Sierra. Between them and you, I basically have my own team of beautiful superheroes by my side.”
Calum laughed softly, standing and pulling her to her feet beside him, encircling her in his arms and pressing a kiss to her forehead.
“I’ll always protect you, baby.”

Aquaman (2018) is a fucking GEM and here’s why
Buckle up, get your popcorn, get a drink, because my squawking about this film--
Tumblr media
--is gonna be long!
Okay, so as anyone who knows me reasonably well or has followed me for my DC stuff can tell you I am a MASSIVE nerd about DC’s Atlantis (thanks in large part to my wonderful and adorable fishy son La’gaan).
Tumblr media
(Obligatory shot of this kid’s happy smiling face because I love him and he deserves at least a moment of attention.)
SO--
The Big Things
This film freaking delivered with showing us Atlantis in full lit-up glory, not to mention showing a clear delineation between the lower levels and the upper levels. We didn’t get to see much of the lower levels unfortunately, but the fact that what we did see of it was an old shipwreck says some things. (Which I’ll probably extrapolate on under Social Things.)
I was never left in doubt for even a moment that Arthur and Mera were capable of what they were doing. Both of them are badass beyond words, are goddamn tanks who should NOT be trifled with, and have genuine complexity and chemistry that makes me heavily invested in their relationship. I can understand why they would be drawn together and how their dynamic would work out, and even as that’s going on I am never once left in doubt that both of them are a force of nature who are just as capable of flattening their enemies individually as they would be if they joined forces and fought side by side. Get on their goddamn level, because they are a power couple who can and will destroy you (or make you wish they had) if they deem it necessary.
BLACK. FUCKING. MANTA. I was not prepared for the sheer level of genius badassery from this man. It was one thing finding out that he got his tech from atlanteans (fuck you Orm), but it was something else watching him break it down and rework it to suit his needs while making his own helmet for-- oh yes-- the goddamn eye-lasers. We are very clearly shown that with his first attempt if he’d been wearing the helmet he would have died, but this brilliant badass pretty much just, “Guess I need a bigger helmet,” and then just went ahead and made a second one with everything figured out and sorted so it wouldn’t blow his damn head off any time he used his main weapon! Just HOLY SHIT BLACK MANTA! On only the second try?! What the shit dude?! Granted, you started out as a pirate and then stepped it up to being a supervillain, but HOLY SHIT. I’m surprised he stuck with being just a pirate for as long as he did!
Also, Black Manta’s motivation makes perfect sense. It took one of the more dick-ish moves Arthur’s done (which was also in character for him at that point in the movie), but that act of not saving Black Manta’s dad (especially since with their interactions I’d argue it’s fair to assume that his dad was a good dad to him) feels exactly like it was all that was needed for him to decide he wanted Arthur dead.
Tumblr media
(And RIP me, when I first saw Black Manta’s dad my first thought was ‘Is that Coffeepot Guy from Young Justice?’)
Orm. Hoooolllllllyyyyyy SHIT Orm. Full props to that actor, because he completely sold Purist McDouche-Face Orm for everything he was worth. Even down to the subtle nuances of how easily he let Atlantean slurs fall, the casual arrogance and unnoticed contempt for anyone who wasn’t ‘pure’ (though that specific word didn’t come up) or who he viewed as ‘traitors’, and the fact that this son of a ba’athu-kest had his brother dragged to him unconscious and in chains in his throne room. There was a fucking COLLAR around Arthur’s neck! And then he has the fucking gall later on to essentially say, ‘If you leave now I’ll let you live and we never have to be at odds again, just ignore the fact that I’m going to be committing genocide that’ll probably include your Dad since he’s close to the shore. No hard feelings. ‘Kay?’ and act like it was an act of goddamn mercy or benevolence. Just... OMG. Seriously, just... fuck you Orm. Fuck you so much for engineering a goddamn war. JFC.
And speaking of Arthur’s Dad-- Arthur’s Mom and Dad are PERFECTION. Yeah, we don’t get to see as much of their relationship development as we do with Arthur and Mera, but Tom Curry and Queen Atlanna are the kind of partners you would expect to see epics written about in the old and ancient days. If we’re talking The Odyssey, then they are Odysseus and Penelope with their roughly 20-year absence from each other-- except Atlanna’s Odysseus and Tom’s Penelope. And when they came back together? I was almost crying in the theater. Holy crap. It was just SO MANY FEELS. Not even a moment of doubt that the two of them loved each other, that they loved each other deeply, that they loved each other intensely, and that they loved each other so much that they were willing to wait until the end of time if that’s what it took for them to be reunited. And if I’m not careful I’m going to get misty-eyed over them again.
And can we just appreciate the fact that Tom and Arthur are indigenous? I mean actually? Because dear gods when Tom greeted Arthur and they pressed their foreheads together and breathed I started fucking crying in the theater. I needed that. I needed to see an indigenous superhero with his culture woven in in subtle ways and for it to play out through affection between him and his dad WHO HE ACTUALLY HAS A WONDERFUL RELATIONSHIP WITH-- and fuck I’m crying again. (I’m assuming because Jason Momoa is Maori that that means they’re Maori? I’m not sure though. I hope the specific culture gets mentioned on the bluray whenever it gets released, because I’m forever after this film going with indigenous Arthur and I want to know I’m referring to his people correctly. Indigenous Arthur is in, all other versions of Arthur can go home.) Gods I have so many feels. If Atlanna had showed that she’d adopted small parts of Tom’s culture by doing the forehead thing with Arthur that would have ended me. On the spot. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, 404: Fira not found due to breaking down over all the feels.
Shifting a little (because otherwise I’m grinding to a halt and I have SO much more to get into) let’s talk about the kisegra, the Trench, and the various beasties! Of the kisegra we only really get to see two types-- the Fishermen (merpeople essentially) and the Brine (lobster/crab-centaur-ish people). I’m not going to fault the people working on the movie for showing us only those two types because they busted their asses on this movie and it shows-- hell, even among those kisegra there’s a diversity of coloration and body-build!-- but I was a tiny smidge disappointed not to see more diversity. Maybe something for a later movie. And then there’s the Trench. THE GODDAMN TRENCH. THESE NIGHTMARE FUEL BA’ATHU-KEGEST.
Tumblr media
The La’gaan muse in my mind may as well have been screaming bloody murder. The scene with them is THAT MUCH NIGHTMARE FUEL. It’d be one thing if only a couple of them had been on the boat and the ones on the boat were all there were.
AHAHAHAHAHA-- NO. I do not have words for the SWARM of them that we end up seeing on screen. JFC. (Though there is the vague indication that the Trench may???? be some type of kisegra???? in this reality??? Don’t like that implication one bit, especially with how it gets tied to bigoted purist comments. Might just be a thing purists were saying because fucking sea-nazi purists though.)
And can I also say that the Karathen is a damned Queen? Yes, Julie Andrews voiced her. Yes, she was voiced by Mary-goddamn-Poppins. Yes, she is “practically perfect in every way” and will flatten (or eat) a bitch as needed. Lava doesn’t affect her, she is fucking impervious. It’s no wonder why King Atlan wanted her to go with him when he fucked off into permanent self-imposed exile for his GIANT ASS mistake-- because who wouldn’t want to have their bestie to spend the rest of their life hanging out with when said bestie is the ORIGINAL ‘Deep Beast’ and will cheerfully destroy any of your upstart descendants if they try to be as stupid as you were by attempting to repeat your mistakes? (Real talk though, the fact that King Atlan made friends with her in the first place implies that he learned how to let go of almost all the excess pride that got him in trouble in the first place. Congrats for having some character growth and having stuck with what you felt was right my dude.)
SEA. HORSES. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA They were SO DAMN COOL.
And armored sharks. Fucking armored great whites. For when you absolutely, positively, have to kill every mother-fucking thing in the ocean around you.
The Differences From Other Realities
So one of the big things that stuck out to me was the “only the high-born can breathe air” thing. While I do agree that the ability to breathe air, or water, or both probably varies due to genetics and whatnot, in most realities and interpretations I’ve seen the ability to breathe air isn’t something only found in ‘high-born’ individuals. (Case in point, La’gaan. I love him to pieces, but as someone from the Outer Provinces there ain’t no way that boy is ‘high-born’, and yet he can breathe air.) I’m not pointing this out as a “screw up” of any sort on the part of the writers, but more to point out that this is a detail that makes the DCCU unique from other DC universes.
Atlantis-- Something that caught my attention was how Atlantis was spoken to in relation to other kingdoms. We have several kingdoms mentioned in the movie-- the Kingdom of the Fishermen, the Kingdom of the Brine, the Kingdom of the Trench (who tf decided they had a kingdom???), the Kingdom of Xebel-- but the way they’re each spoken about implies that they’re not seen as being part of Atlantis. Whiiiiiich is kind of weird, because Atlantis (in most iterations) is implied to have been a small continent/large island and not just a single city-state. On the other hand there have been (mostly older) renditions where it was a single city-state. Going off of what we see though, I’m inclined to think that what may have happened is that what was that world’s Poseidonis at some point during their history got renamed Atlantis (so kind of like a New York, New York situation; New York City in New York State, Atlantis City in Atlantis).
The number of kingdoms-- This is something I’ve seen vary SO DAMN MUCH. Some realities it’s only one, others have implied as many as 12 (before several were lost), and this reality says that there were 7 and that 3 have been lost. Fun details.
And Xebel being one of the kingdoms? Most renditions I’ve seen have it as a place for criminals or sealed off in its own pocket-dimension. So it being one of the kingdoms is pretty unique.
ARTHUR’S. PARENTS. ARE. ALIVE. HOLY. FUCKING. SHIT.
AND NEITHER OF THEM DIE!!!
And thank you SO MUCH to the writers for completely erasing some of the more questionable things that have been done with Mera and Xebel, and with Black Manta. As far as I know none of the recent comics dip into that uncomfortable written history, but I still couldn’t help but be thankful that none of that awful crap got used.
No use of the word ‘pure’ in regards to the purist rhetoric of some of the characters, but it was so heavily implied that I think it’s safe to assume. Still mentioning it because with everything else going on it was almost weird that it wasn’t mentioned even once.
BORDER PATROL AND WALLS AROUND ATLANTIS. What the actual fuck?! What the fucking fuck?! Who the hell in Arthur’s family thought that was a good idea?! ‘Oh, you’re trying to go up and over the wall and not through the only gate into or out of Atlantis-- ‘cause that’s not asking for trouble AT ALL-- how about... No. Instead we’ll just FUCKING ANNIHILATE YOU WITH GIANT ASS LASERS BECAUSE THAT’S REAL PROPORTIONATE TO THE SITUATION.̓ (Seriously. What the fuck.)
The split between upper and lower levels. I’ve seen splits between inner and outer provinces before with various iterations, but this reality is the first one where I’ve seen an upper-versus-lower-level split in Atlantis.
Arthur being the eldest. Some realities he’s older than Orm, and in other realities Orm is older than him. It’s kind of a toss-up.
Atlanna being ‘sacrificed’ to the Trench. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ATLANTIS?! Granted, the Trench are a recent addition to the Aquaman mythos (a la New52), and it could be argued that for other realities they’re almost a myth, a legend of nightmare stories to warn reckless guppies away from going into open and empty areas away from others where it’d be easier for predators to snap them up and swim away; but for a reality where they’re known to factually exist and for people to be completely okay with SACRIFICING THEIR QUEEN TO THEM... What. THE. FUCK.
The Social Things
Technically I could put this point under Differences From Other Realities, but it has to do with a huge social detail for this movie, so it’s going here. ARRANGED MARRIAGE. I think it’s fair to assume that it may have been a thing in the past in most DC realities, but this reality is the first one I know of where it’s a current thing. Obviously this has HUGE repercussions for how things play out (like Queen Atlanna getting ‘sacrificed’ to the Trench for ‘committing treason’ thanks to having fallen in love with Tom and having Arthur-- WTAF Atlantis?), and it implies a lot more heavy restrictions in Atlantis than even I headcanon-- and I’ve headcanoned some really dark shit based on the crumbs and hints DC has given us over various renditions.
This movie did not sugarcoat or simplify the bigotry in Atlantis. They very clearly conveyed that being bigoted isn’t just “deliberately being mean to someone” and that bigotry is pervasive and can affect damn near everything. In fact they did an artful job at subtly and carefully weaving it into interactions that you might not even notice unless you know what to look for. This includes such “tasteful” (NOT) Atlantean slurs and comments rendered in English as:
- Half-breed (canonically an in-world slur)
- Mongrel (implications similar to ‘half-breed’)
- Savage (I hate this word so GODDAMN MUCH, you have NO fucking idea, my kneejerk reaction to hearing this word is the urge to either deck someone or set something on fire)
- “If that half-breed mongrel wields the trident, then that half-breed mongrel is your king.” (May not be word-for-word exact, but it was said by Mera’s father-- which fuck you Nereus, you purist piece of shit, and fuck you for daring to refer to the man you just told your people to follow by using a goddamn slur.)
- There’s more, but goddamn if I went through it all this thing would get even longer and I’d be screaming even more about Orm and Nereus.
- Though I will say with Arthur being indigenous, that insult of ‘half-breed’ carries WAY more weight than it might otherwise. Like WAY MORE.
Oh yeah! And before I forget! Because fuck that hagfish-sucking purist piece of ba’athu-kest shit ORM! THE ASSHOLE KILLS KING RICOU, KING OF THE FISHERMEN, IN FRONT OF HIS FAMILY BECAUSE HE WAS CALLING ORM ON HIS SHIT AND REFUSING TO GO ALONG WITH HIS WAR.
And then he fucking threatened to kill King Ricou’s partner and daughter if they don’t do what he wants!
Just... FUCK ORM. Fuck his purist bullshit, and fuck his purist bullshit that obviously made him think nothing of killing a kisegra where he actually hesitated over the idea of killing someone ‘pure’. (Think Vulco, to a certain extent, and Nereus when Nereus told him to back down over killing Mera.)
Mera says that people try to get into Atlantis over the wall “all the time.” Um, hi, because that’s not saying anything intense. At all. What it immediately calls to my mind is that it may be a direct hint of kisegra not being seen as citizens in Atlantis and (generally) not allowed in. In fact, in the main crowd scenes during the first fight between Arthur and Orm I only noticed ONE kisegra, and then only because of their tail. I may be wrong, there may have been more that I didn’t notice, but in the brief amount of time there was I tried to scour the shots of the crowd for kisegra and came up empty aside from the one. (Can we say ‘possible hints of that arc in the pre-boot comics where kisegra weren’t citizens until Arthur took the throne’?) It also implies-- if they’re willing to risk getting FUCKING ANNIHILATED BY GIANT ASS LASER-CANNONS to get in-- that things are B A D outside Atlantis.
Tumblr media
(Arthur, you poor bastard, you’re walking/swimming into a shit-storm.)
And ‘battles to the death for the throne’???? In a goddamn ARENA?! What kind of fucking hellscape is Atlantis that they’ve had such advanced tech at their disposal for centuries and they’re doing that shit?! (Again, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ATLANTIS?!)
The division between the upper and lower levels. Um... What... the fuck??? Apparently the “low-born” aren’t able to breathe air-- which okay, whatever-- but they apparently have to live with/in wreckage???? Without electricity??? (Obviously the Atlanteans have some form of energy production going. Magic or electricity or both, idek, but that shattered wreck of a ship looked like there wasn’t anything on it or in the area around it that might have cast some light that wasn’t whatever happened to be shining through from higher up.) And apparently without the means to build actual houses???? Great system there for the poor Atlantis. Really.
Arthur, you poor, poor bastard, you’re swimming into a shit-storm.
A gigantic shit-storm.
Arthur, you poor, poor bastard, you’re swimming into SUCH a gigantic shit-storm.
Arthur, you have my deepest sympathies. (Pun not intended.)
I know I said it before, but I’ll say it again: the implications for this world’s Atlantis are way darker than my headcanons have been.
Though this does make me wonder just how much shit Arthur and Mera might get over their relationship and how it came to be (since it obviously wasn’t through “proper traditional procedures”).
Some Other Points I Realized After Getting Some Sleep
Even though we get the sense that everything is headed by kings in Atlantis (HA), we also actually have evidence that Atlantis might not actually go in for surface-world sexist shit.
- Atlanna is clearly Atlan’s descendant, not Orm’s father, otherwise Arthur wouldn’t have been eligible for the throne. Which means the throne was hers (before she was going to be ‘sacrificed’ as a traitor). So that brings up the possibility that things may have played out differently if she’d been found out before Orm was born. (Maybe they wouldn’t have been able to safely ‘get rid of’ her without having someone of her family line available and ready to step in.)
- When Orm kills King Ricou it’s very clearly implied that the throne immediately goes to Ricou’s daughter and not his partner. There is no question or doubt that the princess is immediately in charge of her people’s armies, not even a hint that her gender is a factor in the situation. (It also reinforces the prior thing in the point about Atlanna that family-line seems to be the important factor over everything else for the royal families.)
- Atlanna and Mera both are shown to be highly capable fighters who aren’t to be taken lightly, and though we only really see them being pursued by and fighting against men, there’s not even a moment where any of the atlanteans seem surprised that they’re as capable as they are.
- The Karathen is arguably the biggest badass tank in the entire movie, and yet it’s safe to assume that when King Atlan went into his exile that he cared more about what she was capable of than he cared about the fact that she was the biggest badass woman in the entire ocean. (Assuming the Karathen even has the concept of gender. Pretty sure that’s up for question.)
Chances are high that when Atlanna was ‘sacrificed’ to the Trench, Orm saw his father’s show of harsh and callous ruthlessness and told himself that it was strength, it was admirable, and he wanted to be as much like him as possible. And there’s also the possibility that he had some part of himself deep down somewhere that was absolutely terrified over what his father might do if he ever was or became anything that his father saw fit to ‘destroy’. (Not that it excuses his purist bullshit for even a moment-- purist fucking McDouche-Face Orm can still fucking die in a fire as far as I’m concerned-- but that kind of thing may have added fuel to the fire for his purist bullshit.)
Since it’s very clearly implied that Mera and Orm were raised together, there’s a high chance they were friends as kids. It also means she got to see his increasing asshole-ish-ness, and while she may have missed the friendship they used to have as kids (thank you @tamlins-stories-and-poems for bringing this point up) she also would have known how quickly the switch could be flipped from him caring about her to him deciding she needed to die if he saw her as a ‘traitor’. (Which also explains her deliberate anti-surface comment to him before trying to say that she felt he was going too far.)
I just have to say, in regards to my fishy son La’gaan, he’s the kind of person who doesn’t willingly bow before or submit to anyone unless he feels they’ve earned it. The versions of Mera and Arthur in this movie? They are exactly the sort of people he would be ecstatic to call his Queen and King. They’re the sort of people he would be loyal to and fight with everything he has to defend them-- because they’re both the sort of people to essentially say “fuck you” to social conventions to do the right thing.
With the 7 kingdoms, at least 6 are outright mentioned (unless I’m not remembering the seventh, and even so I’m dubious about the kingdom of the Trench even counting).
- The Remaining 4: The kingdom of Atlantis, The kingdom of Xebel, The kingdom of the Fishermen, and The kingdom of the Brine.
- The ‘lost’ 3: The kingdom of the Deserters (implied to all be dead), The kingdom of the Trench (again, I’m dubious about their claim to the title, but there’s that purist rhetoric about some people having ‘regressed’-- fuck that noise SO much-- but if we put any stock in it then it would imply the kingdom was ‘lost’ because they ‘fell’ so far), and then the third one which may have been mentioned but I don’t recall.
- I just have so many doubts in regard to the Trench having their own kingdom. They’re screwed up nightmare fuel, and claiming they’re one of the Lost Kingdoms feels almost like one of those things that purists thought up as a way to support any claims they have about kisegra being “savage” and all that shit.
And while I’m at it, I fucking love how Orm’s spouting bullshit about how ‘savage’ and ‘barbaric’ kisegra are, and meanwhile the King of the Brine and King Ricou both tell him in no uncertain terms that he’s the one who’s being a violent asshole who needs to back the fuck off.
Really fucking pissed about how Orm killed Ricou and was going to kill the King of the Brine (after he’d already ripped his arm off, fucking asshole Orm).
- Also not thrilled about how after Orm gets ripped away from the King of the Brine, we don’t get to see that king again. I would have liked a moment of him making his way to Arthur to talk. (Maybe something to hope for in a sequel. And hopefully they’ll give him an actual name.)
Also, I appreciate that the one group of kisegra were called fishermen and not fish-men. It’s only something I’ve seen come up in a couple iterations (the animated Young Justice being the main one), but ‘fish head’ is yet another Atlantean slur. Presumably going off of that, things like ‘fish face’, ‘fish lips’, etc.-- while possibly not outright slurs-- could be similar enough to the actual slur to (justifiably) make any kisegra bristle. By going with ‘fishermen’ for that group, it’s pushing away the negative connotations of a possible slur by invoking a term and imagery that implies they are hunters, and therefore shouldn’t be taken lightly. It’s a nice little touch that I’m not sure if the writers intended or not, but I appreciate it all the same.
That said, for all my screaming, I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

The entrepreneurial mindset – transcript from my tedx bundaberg communicate
So, the phrase entrepreneur, permit’s begin there. Has everybody ever seemed this up in the dictionary? I’d never heard the word entrepreneur whilst i used to be at faculty. By no means did every person  Digital Marketing Companies Stafford say “you! The lady that talks in magnificence and receives kicked out a whole lot”
“you! The lady that gets suspended”
“you! The girl this is smart – but doesn’t appear to be engaged in a whole lot of this content”. That became me. Nobody ever said “you realize what? Maybe you ought to think about being an entrepreneur.”
and this is pretty surprising to me because in case you haven’t already picked it up, i’m from wellington, new zealand and that i went to a definitely modern faculty – it became called wellington high college which is now over 100 and thirty years antique. We referred to as instructors by their first names, it became co-ed; boys and women, we didn’t wear a uniform. In the senior years it was go in case you need and don’t pass in case you don’t want – which didn’t in shape every body. We may want to study subjects like journalism and horticulture which turned into first-rate, but nevertheless, the handiest pathway they ever supplied to us in 1994, which become the 12 months i finished high school, become that you cross right through to 12 months 12, which you then move and get a tertiary education and you then get a process. That’s all i ever knew. Both my parent didn’t run companies, one changed into a teacher at my college, so you can imagine how mortified he became at my behaviour at times. Nobody ever supplied this idea of being an entrepreneur. When i have heard the phrase entrepreneur over the years, occasionally it’s were given bad connotations, hasn’t it? Take a look at these words on the slide at the back of me. I suggest who desires to be a wealthy person? A rich person? A dealer? What approximately a wealthy person, or a massive shot, or a large wig? Or even a whizz-kid. So using the phrase “entrepreneur” certainly dates again to the 1800s and it’s a french phrase. And over the years it has grown in popularity. I feel like in latest years if anything, the phrase entrepreneur has taken on a lifestyles of its own and is perhaps even over used – wouldn’t you agree? These days, i’m pretty certain while you’re growing up in new zealand, australia or someplace else within the international that pretty probable, and that i genuinely desire this is real, you're advised approximately the possibility to move on a path of constructing your personal business – if that’s what you want to do. And i implore all of you too, that even when you have taken the traditional direction of studying and going and getting a activity. That at any time you could choose to do a “side hustle” or even mission out and start a new commercial enterprise. Did you already know that the colonel from kentucky, that made the well-known kentucky fried chook or kfc, didn’t begin his commercial enterprise till he was in his 70s?! So in case you want to be an entrepreneur or you simply need to have an entrepreneurial attitude that’s a bit more like an entrepreneurial individual – what does that imply? To me it way numerous different things. It approach to assume in a different way and all those instances i used to be at excessive school getting into hassle, struggling with the academic paintings, it’s due to the fact i notion in a different way, and i just didn’t in shape the mould. So in case you’re taking into consideration a person right now that seems like that, whether it’s your very own baby or a nephew or a niece or someone you’ve taught, perhaps, just perhaps, they’re an entrepreneur too. To inform you how i got here to workout i used to be an entrepreneur (and how it wasn’t such a terrible element and has in fact brought me a lot of awesome opportunities on this life) permit me inform you a piece about my journey. As i said, i started lifestyles in wellington new zealand wherein i was born and bred until the age of 21. I created my first commercial enterprise when i used to be 17 years antique after i decided to begin a newspaper whilst at school. As i said, some of the subjects at faculty weren’t for me – i’d never contact computer systems till i needed to do a journalism direction and had to discover ways to type out my story. Then my dad said “you need to begin a newspaper and also you have to do it on game,” and i thought “that sounds high-quality to me because i really like sport!”

In fact at that point i used to be inside the new zealand crew for water polo for my age group and i skilled loads. I also did a whole lot of swimming and a whole lot of surf life-saving and i gained a variety of medals. I was a water toddler i bet you can say. And the issue that were given me genuinely inquisitive about beginning the newspaper – all of us need to be encouraged by means of some thing – and for me, at age of 17, it became money. I wanted money to pay for my game, which became unfunded. My parents didn’t have the money to keep installing to pay for the uniforms or the journeys and all of the costs associated with recreation. So, i started that newspaper. And in those days, for the ones of us old sufficient to remember, it was bromide, no longer virtual at all. And i had quite a few pleasure losing off in my little crimson mini to every excessive school in wellington, a package of newspapers. And because it become made by means of youngsters, for kids, they devoured it! Then i get this enterprise name from an american man who stated ‘you’ve stolen my concept!’ he was splendid annoyed at me so i stated “how ought to i have stolen your idea? I’ve in no way met you, i don’t know who you're or what your idea even is!”
Properly it seems that this guy have been planning to begin a secondary school sports newspaper plenty like mine for approximately two years. And here became me, coming alongside in any respect of 17 years antique and that i just began this issue, and i idea things like $2 hundred complete web page ads changed into excellent for putting in the bank to pay for my sport. So he demanded a meeting with me and right here i'm, my first boardroom meeting as a 17 years old, with my dad there for assist, reducing my first business deal. And also you’re probably thinking what that frypan reference is up on the display screen? I’ll inform you currently. Years later, a guy in silicon valley said to me, “ you recognize businesses are a lot like pancakes – you stuff the primary one up,” and that i stated, “ oh my god, that’s so actual for me!” due to the fact that newspaper was the primary commercial enterprise and without know it i reduce that deal and it ended up being a clearly horrific enterprise deal when i appearance back. It became a salary, a small lump sum and that i had to continue to paintings for him for the rest of the 12 months. Which for me, become excellent on the time, because i simply wanted to educate and get the cash to go and play against australia later that yr. Properly i did what i used to be asked, and i learnt my first very good commercial enterprise lesson. Which is, if making a decision to enter commercial enterprise with a person, or some thing it's far you decide to do as an entrepreneur, make certain it aligns together with your values. On this experience, his values and my values did not align. And it didn’t exercise session. On the quit of the yr we parted ways and that turned into the end of my first enterprise. For the next seven years, from age 21 to twenty-eight i travelled the world and that i supplemented my travels with journey writing, so i guess you may say i was a journey blogger earlier than it became even a thing. In order that’s my second tip on becoming an entrepreneur or developing an entrepreneurial mind-set, you want to create your very own opportunities. People aren’t necessarily going to mention “hello, you ought to try this” now and again you’ve just got to think “i want to do that. How am i able to make it appear?” then make it manifest! Fast forwarding in my story, i fell pregnant at the tablet, in london, and that i had to work out what to do subsequent. With the aid of this degree, i used to be the editor of a newspaper at age 26. So, i was doing pretty well with the career aspect. However to fall pregnant at the tablet unexpectedly in london, truely made me re-suppose existence and what i was going to subsequent. We in the end had the child, and for some time there we caught it out in london seeking to make matters work, but when it have become too tough we determined to move back to in which our family lived, which became australia. So then, some years pass, i locate some work in australia and then i have a 2nd infant. So now i have a 3 yr old and a new child at domestic and i assume, “how am i going to earn cash now?!”
so i start some other commercial enterprise! Operating from domestic round my youngsters had been the humble beginnings of my 1/3 business, the creative collective. And actually, i didn’t mention that in among my “pancake enterprise” (the newspaper) and my profession in london i additionally started out a web commercial enterprise selling t shirts known as “tikanga teeshirts”. Tikanga means “subculture “and tikanga o te wa – those are maori words i’m the use of – means fashion. I created that enterprise due to the fact i used to be truly proud of our indigenous culture and language in new zealand. Although i am not maori, i used to be delivered up with it. And i desired to share with people that i used to be a proud new zealander and here changed into our subculture. So the teeshirt business i started in 2002 with no capital. I put up a website up after coaching myself html, and four years later, sold it for 5 figures. So that changed into an excellent final results, doing the entire cycle of the enterprise, really higher than the first pancake. However the 0. 33 commercial enterprise, the innovative collective, that’s wherein it all truely began. I got a emblem designed via a friend, i were given that revealed in an a3 layout and laminated, positioned it up inside the have a look at and increase we’re in commercial enterprise! I then threw up a website (now we’re absolutely in commercial enterprise), i made a enterprise card (whats up everybody, i’ve got a business!)
In the ones days it wasn’t very common for mums to work from home – or it didn’t appear to be it become. I didn’t have many friends to name on. However it’s turn out to be increasingly more popular now and i think that that is high-quality, that dad and mom who select to stay at domestic and lift children can still earn an income and do some thing they love. Now today, the innovative collective has 12 personnel throughout offices at the sunshine coast and newcastle and approximately forty contractors. I personal a business building that we perform out of at the sunshine coast and we've customers all over australia and even a few global ones. It has a spinoff company called the schooling collective, in which we teach human beings digital skills. And importantly, we’ve had loads of amusing with it all. Now there’s a high-quality metaphor obtainable approximately what it takes to be an entrepreneur that i’d love to share with you. An entrepreneur says to a mentor, “be my mentor, show me what it takes to be an entrepreneur.”
The mentor says, “okay come meet me down on the water early when it’s truly honestly dark and cold out”. The entrepreneur meets the mentor and on arrival the mentor says “walk with me” and fully dressed heads straight into the water. The entrepreneur says to the mentor “wait! I need to get undressed. I’ll get moist…”
the mentor says “no you don’t just stroll for your clothes”. So they enter the water, which is clearly in reality bloodless, and are up to their knees in their garments. The entrepreneur says “oh man this is uncomfortable! What are we doing? This is terrible!”
the mentor smiles and lightly says “that’s proper, simply hold strolling”. So they hold on foot deeper and deeper into the water, and that i should virtually complicated in this tale, however the factor is, they walk till they’re as much as their necks, and the entrepreneur at this factor is certainly suffering to hold his head above water due to the fact his garments are wet, he’s freezing bloodless, and the whole thing is weighing him down.
“i hate this!” he again complains to the mentor.
“i want to get out! I will’t cope! I’m going to drown!” he yells desperately to the mentor. And when he gets to date, the mentor says, “my friend, that is what it takes to be a an entrepreneur. You’ve got to be prepared to get from your consolation zone. You’re going to swim into un-chartered waters. You’re going to be uncomfortable, and also you’ll every so often experience like you’re sinking. At instances you can even think you’re drowning, but you’ve just were given to preserve going. You’ve got to try and swim even if things are weighing you down.”
in order that’s every other tip i have for all the budding entrepreneurs obtainable. You’ve were given to be prepared to get from your consolation quarter and make it work! My first step to get out of my consolation area, turned into getting into a enterprise award. I were in business simply six months with the innovative collective, and i idea “good day, i need to marketplace my commercial enterprise, or supply some thing a pass right here to get the word available about my business.”
so i throw my hat into the small commercial enterprise champions awards, and that i couldn’t consider it. I gained! I received the younger entrepreneur of the 12 months award in queensland in 2007. Out of this revel in i realised that coming into business awards labored quite properly and that i'd want to do extra of that because the telephones started out ringing, and enterprise began coming in. I also met some fantastic people at that event. Off the back of winning that award, i were given presented to go on tv, on a country wide display approximately extraordinary corporations. On it they depicted me because the mum who worked from home juggling my two young ones that's precisely what i was doing at the time. That equal piece came out on channel nine, after which featured at the vodafone internet site and on qantas’s inflight television and things in reality took off. And this become all from going outdoor my consolation region and coming into a commercial enterprise award. The alternative things i’ve found out along my years of being an entrepreneur, is which you want to be open to new studies, places and people. That's exactly why i say, sure to driving three hours to speak at a bundaberg tedx occasion. I wanted to come back up to fulfill new people and have a brand new revel in in a brand new region. Through my entrepreneurial/commercial enterprise journey, i’ve simply been capable of do this. For instance this is me in ny, getting into the international women in enterprise awards. And in that yr, my kids had been elderly 2 and 5, the foreign exchange rate become horrible and that i felt so responsible leaving them to attend these awards. I didn’t win that award, but it was nonetheless so really worth going and being open to these new reviews. Due to attending that event, that night, i went night clubbing, as you do with the ceo of the whole awards. And he provided me an opportunity to sell these awards in australia and new zealand, which i then did for the subsequent 10 years. And that has became having connections with some of the excellent enterprise people in australian and new zealand, which has been an outstanding ride as properly. I assume you want to put your self available, and remember you have got as an awful lot proper to be there as everyone else. Through getting into some other enterprise award software, the telstra enterprise womens awards and winning business proprietor of the 12 months in queensland, extra possibilities unfolded for me. I were given invited to go to silicon valley, which if you don’t know, is the tech capital of the arena. But anyway, it become a lifestyles-changing revel in to go to the offices of the likes of fb, to satisfy the founding father of eventbrite, visit the linkedin offices and sure, just as they are saying, they all have brilliant workplaces. The linkedin workplaces have a band room, so in case you want to head and jam for an hour for your lunch destroy, you may. And yes, facebook has free meals simply as they say, they all do. Three courses, day or night time, any time. Additionally they have unfastened ice cream, free barbers, it’s a international unto itself. So i were given so far and i was wondering what's this all about? What does all of it suggest? What do i do with all these connections and reviews i’m having? After which i remembered a teacher back at wellington high school pronouncing to me, “what do you want to be remembered for? He also stated that in case you are an remarkable mathematician or inventor you can spend your whole lifestyles seeking to training session one math equation, or to create one invention, and you may or might not be successful. But he stated to me, in case you’re to write one poem, one music, paint one artwork piece – however desirable or bad – it will be remembered, as it lives on. He become speakme about legacy of course. And that i determined i in reality liked that concept. I realised i’d always had in me a burning preference to write down a ebook. So i’ve virtually written a couple. I wrote one about my grandfathers existence, which i launched in 2006, only a few months earlier than my grandmother handed away so it changed into outstanding to try this. And that i launched another e-book in 2014 after i gained it female of the year, at the countrywide iaward due to the fact i felt pressured to make a contribution and provide back to what i knew which became in which the it industry was going and what sort of this changed into changing things and how we had a responsibility to research greater approximately technology in order to enhance our kids in a technology driven international. This phase noticed me speak to and have an effect on ministers, do lots of media observation and encourage humans to educate youngsters coding. Which now of route today is widespread in faculties. And these are all things which befell in my entrepreneurial journey. The very last tip i desired to give you nowadays, is tapping into whatever you’re captivated with, what you love to do. So, in case you do rise up each morning and go to paintings and think “i hate this, i hate those human beings, i hate this region” or “i don’t sense any experience of my soul being ignited, i don’t experience joy or whatever….” then maybe it’s time to alternate. And whether that requires quitting your job to move into something you’re greater obsessed with, or initially reducing your hours, or going returned and reading or completely converting careers, or starting a side-hustle or a totally fledged business – be courageous! If you have a burning preference or something you’re passionate about doing, i say do it! In precis, i suppose the entrepreneurial mind-set is a way of wondering. It’s specially approximately the manner you approach demanding situations and mistakes. Now i was very conscious about setting together my talk, and hoping it doesn’t come upon as pronouncing, “observe me i’ve had this exceptional lifestyles and all of these simply cool things befell,” but i need to make certain , there’s been lots of hard stuff, the treading cold deep water full dressed metaphor stuff. I’ve had the ato name me up on a friday and want $forty,000 off me on monday, due to the fact i had a crappy accountant who gave me the wrong recommendation. I’ve had team of workers and pals (no longer my friends), stealing my highbrow property and now not seeing an difficulty with it and starting up very comparable businesses, with similar names and things like that. We have consistent breaches of our trademark definitely and we’ve had to move and attraction one absolutely currently. There’s been sincerely tough life stuff. I separated from my accomplice of 18 years, and the daddy of my kids and thru this i nonetheless had to stand up and visit work. It’s tough stuff. Demanding situations with raising teens, fitness problems, money issues – therehave been weeks wherein i didn’t even recognise how i used to be going to do the payroll. You realize, among all this joyous life, there’s nevertheless those difficult matters you have to arise and cope with. But, if you maintain finding the right human  Digital Marketing Company Stafford beings to be around, and if you could just hang in there and that cold water with the ones clothes on, you could definitely experience it too.

SugarDaddy!Cal Pt.3
A/N: I appreciate all the kind anons, glad you all actually liked the first two parts. Okay so, I think I gonna try to stick with this as long as you guys enjoy it. I need at least 100 notes for the next chapter, cuties💕
Oh and sorry if some of the details don't apply to you. Once again due to the request it's focused on POC, and since I don't know you guys I kind of just fill in holes with things about myself so sorry.
**Warning** : Just slight smut, nothing too heavy
One/ Two/ Three/ Four/Five/Six/Seven/Eight/ Nine/Ten/Eleven/Twelve/Thirteen/Fourteen/Fifteen Sixteen/ Seventeen/ Eighteen/ Nineteen/Twenty{END}
"Are we there yet?" You complained as the sun was practically melting your back.
Calum had decided to pick you up today and drive you all the way to the other side of town just to take you to the park. He kept repeating that there was the most beautiful view, but what he forgot to mention was how long you two had to actually walk to get there. So, here you were at a park you've never been to with beads of sweat rolling down your face from walking up hills for more than fifteen minutes. You were never an outdoor type of person and even though you played volleyball all throughout high school, you weren't as athletic anymore. It didn't help that you had decided to wear sandals today either.
"Stop your whining, we're almost there."
You let out a sigh as you trudged up the hill to catch up to Calum. Your eyes widened when you realized that there was one more huge hill and that's when you called it quits.
"Oh fuck no." You shook your head, having a seat in the grass." I'm done."
"Oh come on, Y/N. It's not that bad."
"Look, I don't know about you, Calum, but I don't do this on the regular. I don't even work out!"
"You're being lazy." He laughed.
"My feet hurt and I'm sweating all over.” You took a breather, wiping the salty liquid from your forehead with the back of your hand.” I'm hot and tired."
"You're going to be hot and tired a couple of times out of the week, princess. " Calum gave you a goofy smile and you let out a laugh.
"Stop it."
"Seriously, though," he squat down to your level," it's just this last hill."
"Calum." You whined out.
"Fine, grab the bag."
Calum turned around and motioned for you to climb onto his back and you happily obliged. He reached his hand up a little more to squeeze your butt quickly and you giggled, batting his hand away.
"Onward, Hood!" You yelled as you pointed forward and he began to climb the hill.
"This is a good workout. I feel the burn." He groaned and accidentally took a step back, causing you to panic and grip to his neck tightly.
"If you drop me, Calum, I swear to God."
"I won't, I won't."
He then faked as if he dropped you, causing you to let out a squeal as he laughed at the situation.
"Fucking hate you!"
It took no more than five minutes before you two finally made it to the very top and you had to admit, the view was beyond incredible.
"Holy shit, Calum. You can see the whole town!"
"Ashton and I found it while taking a walk a while ago. We come up here every now and then."
He rolled out a small blanket for the two of you to sit on and pulled out a couple of containers filled with food. You couldn't help but to giggle as you watched him place sandwiches and fruit on the two plates, finding it beyond cute. To be a guy confident enough to technically buy his way into sex whenever he wanted, he sure was a gentleman.
"What?"
"This is cute, s'all." You popped a grape into your mouth, getting yourself comfortable on the blanket. "Never been on a picnic date before, especially where the guy makes sandwiches."
"Well, I'm glad to be your first." He grinned, the side of his eyes crinkling up. " Bon appétit!"
"Is this your special, Chef Hood?" You joked and the boy let out a laugh.
"Ah, yes. Thinly sliced turkey with a mayonnaise and mustard spread, sprinkled with freshly made all American cheese served on white bread. It's served with a side of grapes and strawberries grown in my backyard garden and a bottle of authentic raspberry lemonade." He faked a French accent and you fell back on the blanket with laughter, not even attempting to control it.
"Oh my God." You said as you calmed down a few moments later, holding a hand in the air for Calum to high five it." That was amazing."
There was this long silence, not awkward, but it made Calum miss the sound of your voice. Just from the first date he realized that your voice would be his new favorite thing and he didn't want to go too long without hearing it. Don't even get him started on how much he loved your laugh. It wasn't like most other girl's laughs he's heard. No, yours was loud and genuine, like you couldn't care less what others thought because what you just saw or heard was hilarious it had to be let out.
"What's the most embarrassing thing you've done?" He questioned with curiosity, wanting to hear more about you, feel like he was getting closer to you.
"My whole life is full of embarrassing moments." You sighed." Uh...I'm not sure. Maybe the one time I twisted my ankle and broke my crush's arm at the fair."
"What the hell?" Calum furrowed his eyebrows.
Calum listened intently as you explained how it all went down. You went through every detail on how you met up with your crush and a couple of friends at the annual yearly fair to have a good time. Somewhere towards the end of that night, you got off a ride only to fall and twist your ankle, pulling the boy down with you and causing him to land on his arm. Calum couldn't help but to laugh as you went on about what happened once you two got to the hospital.
"How hard did you two fall?"
"I don't even know. We were standing on a platform, but we weren't even that high off the ground."
Again there was another moment of silence, leaving Calum to his thoughts. He watched you as you quietly ate the last of your fruit, staring out over the town. At first his thoughts were pure, simply consisting of how beautiful you looked as the sun set, your skin seeming to glow, but they soon turned dirty the minute your lips wrapped around that strawberry. Your lips were naturally plump and full, and the poor Maori boy couldn't help but to think what they'd feel like leaving purple blotches along his skin or wrapped around his cock. He could feel himself starting to strain against his jeans and bit his lip, continuing to envision you sucking him off as you stared him in the eyes.
"You okay?" You furrowed your eyebrows, noticing the shift in his mood.
Calum was so out of it that he didn't even know he had let out a small groan, let alone how angry he seemed to look all of a sudden.
"Fuck, come here." He moved the plates out of the way and got you to straddle his waist.
He reached up to capture a kiss, his hands cupping your cheeks as you nearly toppled over at the ferocity of it. Calum thought he could never get over how soft your lips were, maybe the softest he'd ever kissed if he was being honest, and he's kissed a lot of girls. The make out began to get heated pretty quickly due to Calum's state. His hands were now attached to your waist as he rocked your hips back and forth against himself, your core heating from the feel of his boner pressed firmly against it.
"Your fucking lips." He pulled back for air, leaning up to capture your lips again. He couldn't help but to praise them.
"You like my lips?" You mumbled against his and he hummed in agreement, lightly biting your bottom one."What's got you so turned on all of a sudden, Cal?"
You pulled back with a slight smirk, Calum looking at you with dark, lust filled eyes. You weren't sure why, but that gave you confidence. The fact that you had someone who wanted you this badly underneath you made you feel sexy.
"What were you thinking about?" You asked.
You then began to place kisses down his neck, moaning quietly as you continued to grind against him. He didn't say anything at first, relishing in the moment and tilting his head back to give you more access.
"Hmm?" You urged.
"I was thinking about how good your lips would look wrapped around my cock." He admitted and you let out a light giggle, deciding that now you meant business. He was your sugar daddy after all, right?
"Is that so?" You unbuckled his belt, shoving your hands down his pants to rub him through his briefs."You want me to suck your cock?"
"God yes."
You tugged his pants down just a bit to where his boner could breathe, then you began grinding even harder. Calum moaned as you swirled your hips against him, pressing kisses to his lips.
"Well, maybe," you began with a mischievous smile,"if you take me shopping I might consider seeing you again tomorrow."
"I-I can't." He whined, bucking his hips up to meet yours."Im busy."
"Welp." You shrugged." I guess you won't be-"
"Fuck, wait..." Calum began to kneed your ass and you hummed in appreciation."I'm free Sunday."
"Take me shopping and I'll suck you off right after." You promised. "Deal?"
"D-Deal."
"I'm looking forward to it." You moaned in his ear, smiling before adding,"Daddy." in a seductive whisper.
"Oh my God." He groaned out, tilting his head back as you continued to grind against him.
It didn't take much longer for him to release into his boxers, a loud grunt passing his lips as he did so. You slowed down the pace of your hips and eventually climbed off of him to allow him to calm down. Calum looked over at you with a lazy smile, shaking his head.
"What?"
"And here I thought I was going to be the one to make the shy girl cum first."
"I'm not as shy as you think, sweetheart." You winked." Maybe we should head back, you've got cum in your boxers."
"Shit, I don't have another pair." He whined as you packed away everything the two of you brought."I didn't think I'd cum in mine."
You simply laughed and began to walk down hill, calling behind you, "If you keep your promise, you don't have to cum in your pants next time."
Calum sighed, watching your hips sway side to side and your ass jiggle slightly in your jeans. It was then he knew that you'd be the death of him.

                                                  I M A G I N E
Helsinki, 20:34 P.M. (same night as their landing night)
“Man, I am pooped!” Michael announced, belly flopping on one of the fluffy beds as everyone piled in one of the hotel rooms.
“So we accidentally booked 2 rooms with 2 bedrooms each,” Ashton announced, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. “I swear I had every other hotel planned and covered but I guess I forgot this one detail in Finland. M’sorry, Y/N.”
“No worries!” You quickly blurt out, shaking your hands in front of all the boys. “I can just pull out the bed from the couch in wherever room I stay in.” Luke, Ashton, and Michael placed their eyes on you, staring sternly as you stood awkwardly.
“We’re not letting our guest of honor sleep on a shitty, convertible couch-bed,” Michael claims before he drops his face back into the bed.
“Isn’t this a 5-star hotel?” You chirped, but the boys ignored you as Ashton walked over to Calum, who was looking at Michael distantly.
“You’ll be sleeping with me and Calum in our room,” Ashton assured as he went for your bag to carry it for you. “I’ll bunk with Calum so you can take my bed.”
“No no, it’s okay, seriously--”
“Just shut up and take his bed already.” Everyone turned to look at Calum, who was walking over to the door. He slowly walked out the door, walked a bit, and entered the other room. Slamming the door shut, you flinched from the impact and looked up at Ashton.
“He seems a bit crabby, eh?” Luke commented as he walked over and sat on his bed.
“That’s a regular for Calum ever since Y/N arrived,” Michael said, planting his face once more into the bed. Muke began getting comfortable in their beds, having it be you and Ashton’s queue to leave the room.
“Goodnight,” Ashton said as he quickly escaped from the room.
“Goodnight.” Muke said in sync. You walked over to Luke, kissing him gently on his head before going to Michael. You kissed the back of his head before ruffling it a bit.
“Goodnight, you two,” you whispered, giving Luke a smile as he smiled back.
“N-night, Y/N,” Michael stuttered, his face still planted in the bed to hide his flushed cheeks from you. Leaving the room, you softly close the door and walk over to Cashton’s suite. Knocking the door, you wait a moment before the door opened and you were quickly introduced to Ashton.
“C’mon in, Y/N!” Walking in, you already noticed a mess. Luggages were open, with clothes spewing out of it. Several shirts were also ornate around the floor as you cautiously walked around them. “Sorry for the mess, we were exchanging clothing for a minute.”
“What, did you have some of Calum’s shirts?” You teased, having Ashton blush before looking away.
“Maybe.” His muttering made you giggle as you went over to your bag that was on (you assumed) your bed. You take out a top and pants for you to sleep in, with underwear as well as the products for your nighttime routine. Taking all that into your arms, you began heading towards the bathroom.
“Oh hey, knock before trying to get in there,” Ashton warned as he grabbed a soda from the mini fridge. “Calum is taking a shower.” Nodding at the warning, you turned back at the bathroom door. Your hand was making its way towards the door, aiming to knock at it. But before you could, the door suddenly opened to reveal Calum. Shirtless.
A pink towel was wrapped around his waist, covering his man bits as well as his thighs. His chest was still a little moist, with his tattoos glistening from the water. Your eyes couldn’t help but look down to see his toned, emphasized abs that he was obviously developing. Veins were crawling up and down his forearms as he stood there looking down at you.
“Stop checking me out, pervert,” Calum hummed as he walked passed you. You blushed, turning around to look at Calum’s back.
“I am not a pervert!” You exclaimed before rushing into the bathroom and locking the door behind you. You heard Ashton chuckle a bit as you pressed your back against the door. Sinking down to the floor, you couldn’t help but let out a sigh.
I really was checking him out, you thought, blood rushing into your cheeks some more as you thought about the Maori boy. You pondered as to why you were so attracted to him. Was it because of your previous crush on him? Could it be that it’s an extension of the crush?
It felt incredibly wrong to like him again. He grew up, and you did, too. He’s probably getting laid all the time and going to parties and drinking until his heart was tired. You were just continuing your studies with a shitty job.
Two completely different worlds with a shared past.
Sighing in frustration, you decide to get back on your feet and begin your showering. You need to cleanse yourself from the thought of Calum and what had happened on the plane and car. But as you were turning on the water, you couldn’t help but think about your head on his shoulder as he held you close.
“Fuck!” You hissed at yourself as you undressed and hopped into the shower.
21:56 P.M.
After an hour or so, you were finally clean, dried, and moisturized from your appointment in the shower. The water helped you relax a little bit and allowed you to think more about being clean than the rude, asshole-ish Calum Hood. Fuck, you thought angrily. I’m thinking about him again.
Exiting the bathroom, you adjust the wrapped towel on your head as you felt the coolness of the room hit you. Goosebumps began crawling around your arms as you were introduced into the darkness of the room as well. You heard Ashton snoring, listening as he was already passed out.
How long was I in the shower?
Using the light of your phone, you walk over to your bed and put your bag down on the floor beside it. You grabbed the small quilt that came with the bed and wrapped it around your body. Sitting down on the bed, you yawned and found yourself growing just as groggy as Ashton was. But, you looked up slowly to notice that the balcony door was open and letting in the fairly cool breeze.
“Calum?” You called out quietly, rising from the bed to go towards the balcony. Looking through the sliver, you saw Calum outside, leaning against the rail. Fully clothed, thankfully. You quietly walk through the sliding doors and slowly approached him. “Calum? Are you okay?” You called to him once more, having him look back a bit to notice you before he looked back into the distance.
“Mhm.” The moon was shining brightly down at the two of you, having it be the only source of brightness in the sky that you two could see. You hesitantly joined Calum by getting beside him and leaning against the rail as well. Letting out a deep sigh, you look over at Calum, who already had his eyes on you. “Why are you out here?”
“I was looking for you,” you said quietly, your eyes distantly looking down at his Indian tattoo. “It’s rather cold out, you should grab a sweater.”
“I’m alright,” Calum admits, but you knew he was lying. In a simple, white tank top and grey sweats, you knew he was pretty cold. Goosebumps were even collecting on his toned biceps.
“How long have you been out here?” You asked him politely.
“Since you went into the bathroom.” He responded.
“You’re gonna catch a cold,” you urged him, receiving nothing but a snort as he continued looking down at the country side and the few houses ornate around them. You sighed, studying the concentrated boy before moving a little closer to him. In his peripheral vision, Calum watched as you wrapped the quilt over his shoulders and secured it so it didn’t sink off his back.
“Y/N, what are you doing?” Calum said coolly, looking over at you. You were getting cold from the lack of warmth, hugging yourself in attempt to keep yourself a little bit warm.
“Making sure you don’t get sick,” you whispered, looking down at your bare feet as you felt the coldness making you shiver. Sighing a bit, you watched the white smoke form right in front of your very eyes. Little did you know that Calum was staring at you with a bit of fascination.
Swiftly, you felt the quilt wrapped on your once more, having you look over at Calum, who was watching you sternly. His almond eyes were looking at you seriously as his stubbornness was showing again. He looked back at the sky, staring distantly at it. Watching him, you rolled your eyes and wrapped the quilt back on him.
“Y/N--”
“Just keep the fucking blanket.” Hands quickly cupped your mouth as you were quickly pulled into Calum. Suddenly, your back was against him as both of his arms closely wrapped themselves around you. He removed his hands from your mouth to lean them against the rail once more. “U-uh, C-Calum...”
“If we share body heat, we won’t be as cold,” Calum said with his typical monotone voice, having you feel blood surge into your cheeks. The closeness was killing you, having your heart race from feeling Calum’s chest upon your upper back. “I know it’s awkward but you’re too stubborn and I want to stay outside.”
“I’m stubborn? Yeah, okay.” You hissed, getting a chuckle from Calum as you smiled as well. It felt nice to bond like this with Calum. Although you’ve only been with the boys for a fair week now, you felt like you’ve finally gotten closer to Calum by just a bit. It didn’t feel like he totally hated you.
“You are, though,” Calum began, causing you to roll your eyes.
“Okay, Calum, whatever you say,” you gave in sarcastically, allowing silence to swallow the conversation. Crickets began to play as the two of you stood on the balcony to admire the night sky. You then realized something and blushed a bit before letting Calum know. “You know, they say that sharing body heat would be more effective if the two people were naked...”
“So you really are a pervert,” Calum said simply, having you turn around and hit Calum’s chest slightly hard.
“I’m not!”
9:05 A.M.
Achoo! A sneeze escaped from Calum’s nose as he was cuddled up in several blankets and pillows. Everybody was looking down at the Maori boy, who was suffering a fairly bad cold. You couldn’t help but giggle from the fact that he actually got sick and you called it.
“You’re not coming to practice today,” Michael said as the band’s doctor was checking Calum’s pulse. Calum gave him a bitch face before he was told to sit up to check his heartbeat from his back.
“I can go to fucking practice, asswipe,” Calum declared, his voice raspy and more nasally than it usually is.
“Sorry, Mr. Hood, but you can’t,” the doctor began, having Michael stick his middle fingers at Calum as Calum sulked back into the pillows. “You currently have a stuffy nose and a developing sore throat. You need to rest a bit before you can get up and start using your vocals.”
“Sucks to be you,” Luke jokes, poking at his legs while Calum tries to swat him away.
“I’ve left some medicine by the bedside table there,” the doctor informed as he began to rise and lock his bag. “He should drink those pills right after he eats his breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I’ve also left a nasal spray for that stuffy nose of his.”
“Thanks, doc,” Ashton said, showing the doctor out as you, Luke, and Michael looked down at the sick Calum Hood.
“Man, it’s gonna suck for you to be alone here while we rehearse,” Michael hums as he goes over to you and grabs your hands. “I want to show you all the awesome tricks I’ve been learning on the guitar.”
“Hold your horses, Mikey,” Luke began, grabbing him by the back hem of his shirt. “I think Y/N should stay with Calum.” Your heart skipped a beat when you heard those words uttered from Luke’s mouth.
“I dunno...” Ashton began, seeming very hesitant as Calum let out a dry cough. You looked over at the sick patient, feeling very bad that you couldn’t get Calum a blanket in time last night. Feeling down about it, you look over at the boys who are having a small conference about it.
“But she’ll miss out on my amazing guitar playing!” Michael pleaded, pouting a bit at Ashton. Ashton simply shoves him away with his hand on his face as he looked over at you sympathetically.
“Would you mind staying with Calum, Y/N?” Ashton began. “You can definitely say no if you’d like.” You look over at Calum, whose almond eyes is studying you tiredly but intensely. He looked too sick to do anything on his own, and he doesn’t appear to be declining it...
“I don’t mind, you guys go,” you say confidently, having Michael drop down to his knees in disappointment. “Next time, Mikey, I swear I’ll be there to watch you practice!”
“Sound check when we go to Ireland, okay, Y/N?” Michael asked, sticking out his pinkie to you. You wrap your pinkie around his and shake on it. Helping him up, you hug all the boys and pay them farewell.
“We’ll come back by lunch to take care of that loser,” Luke calls from the hallway, having you giggle as Ashton is the last to join them.
“Good luck, lil cuz,” Ashton says, giving you a wide smile before closing the door. You turn around to find Calum looking at you sleepily.
“I’m hungry,” he announces, having you roll your eyes before heading to the kitchen to see what there was. There wasn’t much, but just enough to make the sick boy some soup.
“Does soup sound okay?” You began, receiving a loud ‘mm’ from Calum. You quickly took out a pot, a knife, and a cutting board to prepare. Boiling a bit of chicken broth, you go ahead and begin chopping up some carrots, celery, and onions.
“Do we have actual chicken to put in the soup?” Calum asked weakly.
“We don’t, unfortunately,” you say shamefully. “I can go get one if you’d like, I can--”
“No,” Calum said abruptly, pausing your cutting to look up at him. “Don’t leave me...” You blushed, looking at Calum distantly while taking in his words.
“O-okay...” you whispered, looking away to continue preparing the soup for him. You seasoned the soup nicely, not putting heavy spices due to Calum’s weak taste buds at the moment. You made sure to boil the soup nicely so it took all the flavors of the vegetables you diced. Furthering, you put a bit of pasta in it so Calum could have a decent solid to digest.
“Finished!” You announced, walking over to the bedside table with a poured bowl of soup, a spoon, and a cup of water. “Let me help you sit up, okay. Come over here a bit.”
You watched as Calum scooted over towards you to be closer to the bedside table. With urgency, you grabbed a few of the pillows and stacked them so Calum could have better elevation. Offering your arms, he used it to sit himself up. But it ended up being you hugging him and lifting him up with all the upper body strength you had. You felt his broken breath upon your neck, sending all sorts of goosebumps around your body as you assisted him.
“Mm, here we go,” you begin, grabbing a chair over to sit by Calum better. Grabbing the small bowl, you hold it in one hand while using your other hand to hold the spoon. Getting a spoonful of soup, you offer it to Calum. “Here.”
“I can’t eat that.” You pout at his words, dropping your shoulders as you looked down at your homemade soup.
“But I made it just for you, Calum. How can you even say--”
“It’s too hot,” Calum began. “I’ll burn my tongue and that won’t be any fun.” You silently oh’d yourself while taking back the spoonful of soup. Blowing on it a few times, you offer it once more to Calum as it didn’t have much steam anymore. Calum slowly opened his plump lips and took the spoon in his mouth. You removed the spoon as Calum gulped down the soup. An expression of pain was painted on his face as he crinkled his face.
“Good?” You whispered, noticing how close you ended up being to Calum. He blinked a few times, studying your eyes as you two were 2 inches from touching noses. He remained silent while watching you, having your heart race a bit faster than before. “C-Calum...”
“Can I have some more?” Calum asked softly, quickly looking away to cough into the bend of his arm. You nod, taking more spoonfuls of soup and cooling it down for him before feeding it to him. With the consistency he ate, he managed to finish the entire pot within 30 minutes.
“Wow, you must’ve been real hungry,” you hum as you begin taking out one of the pills from his medication. “Alright, lets have you drink this first before you lay back down, okay?” Calum nodded obediently as you gave him the pill and the cup of water. Watching him swallow it, you take the cup from him as he goes back to laying down. Grabbing the bowl as well, you rise to take them to the kitchen to wash.
“Y/N.” Calum called for you, having you quickly clean the dishes before rushing back to Calum’s side. You remove the chair from beside the bed and put it back where it was before going back and sitting on your bed that was across from Calum.
“D’you feel better?” You asked, having him shrug a bit.
“Come here,” he asked gently, having you stand up once more to go and see what Calum wanted. “Sit,” he said, patting at the space of the bed next to him. Sitting down, you look down at Calum who barely had his eyes open.
“What is it, Calum?” You asked, watching the sick boy slowly get into a deep slumber. He suddenly took you into his arms and held you tight. You flinched from the sudden action, worsening your heart beat easily. His fingers grabbed your shirt as he held you. You felt him bury his face in your neck, feeling his heavy breaths against the sensitive skin.
“Thank you... for choosing to... stay with me..” he mumbled, his arms losing energy as he let you go. Pulling away, you found yourself completely flushed as you watched the Maori boy instantly fall asleep.

Ruined Us pt.3
A/N Hey loves, part three is here and I hope you enjoy it. Remember I take requests and I’ll gladly do imagines or blurbs for you. Enjoy <3
Tumblr media
I slowly walked up to the door of boys house, a place I've grown accustomed to but now it feels as if I've never entered through this door. I'm very hesitant to knock on the mahogany door, but once I mustered up the courage the door swings open revealing a blonde Micheal.
“Mel!” He yells, wrapping his arms around me in a warm embrace. I lightly pat him on the back, a little anxious about the situation but I'll pull through.
“Hi Mikey.” I say plastering a smile on my face after he pulls away from me. I can see Luke and Ashton behind him with wide smiles. Micheal steps out of my way and Ashton runs up to me and pulls me farther into the room while Luke rushes to Ramona mentioning something about new guitars.
“He's in his room.” Ashton whispers as if he were afraid the others would come with us.
“Thank you.” I reply before descending up the stairs to Calum's room. I stand at the front of his door for a couple of minutes debating whether I should knock or just come right in, I end up knocking earning a small ‘come in’ for my answer.
I slowly walk in and close the door behind me, and stand there for a minute staring at the boy I love, his almond brown eyes were puffy and red as if he'd been crying for quite a while. His nose was a tad red as well, and his cheeks that I always loved squishing before kissing him were tear stained. We stare at each other for a couple of seconds before Calum ended up breaking the silence between us.
“Hey.” He sniffles before looking back down at his pillow, he pat the spot next to him but I took a seat at the edge of his bed. I honestly don't know what to say to him. Do I yell, do I cry? “How are you doing?” He asked, his voice seemed bored but when I looked into those brown eyes you could tell that the question kept him up at night.
“Do not ask me that question.” I replied now feeling the tears build up in my eyes. I tried to blink them away but they ended up falling upon my cheeks, I quickly averted my eyes down in my lap my hair shielding my face as I let the tears fall.
“Why can't I?” Calum asks, I feel the bed dip in front of me. He probably scooted closer to me, I look up to see the Maori boy his eyebrows furrowed and eyes full of hurt. I quickly swipe away the fresh tears from my cheeks and look at him straight in the eye. A sudden fire inside of me sparking.
“You can't ask a person is doing right after tearing them apart Calum. You have no right.” I snapped. His eyes widened at my sudden change of attitude, but that was only the start. “You ruined me Calum. You took every bone from my body and broke it, you ripped every organ from my chest and butchered them. You carelessly breathed in every essence of my soul like one of your cigarettes but you never returned it. I became lost without you. I don't know how to breathe or walk - let alone get out of bed- I don't even know who I am, that's because you took all of me. All of my pieces and scrambled them together. A mixed up puzzle the one you never put back together.” At this point I can feel my heart aching and it hurts somuch. I grab at my chest and let out a loud sob I've been holding in, and hear Calum sniffle above me, only making everything hurt even worse.
“I'm sorry, I didn't ever want to hurt you.” He whimpered. I looked up to see his almond eyes full of tears and his lips were trembling.
“But you did Calum. But I'm sorry that I can never be her.” I whispered, he opened his mouth to interject but I interrupted him. “I saw the pictures on the internet. Once I saw her I knew I couldn't be compared to her. Her looks will never compare to me, and the fact that she seemed to make you happy enough to do this means my character could never compare to hers. Over the months I just loved you more and more, but every photo of us you would take down, or every night out canceled was my reminder that I couldn't fully get you to love me like I love you Calum.” I cry even harder and end up wrapping my arms around Calum's torso and cried into his chest letting out all my sobs staining his grey T-shirt.
“Mel I do love you. I love you so much.” He cried holding onto me tightly as if he's trying to pull my pieces back together.
“If I could take every tear I've cried over you I could fill oceans.” I whisper.
He pulled away and gazed into my probably bloodshot eyes, “I'm so sorry I hurt you Mel.” He replied grasping onto my hand. I stared at the small gesture, I wish it could warm me up and fill me with happiness like it used to. I extracted my hand from his grip, I've always knew Calum was too good to be true but I've always hoped for the best, I thought but didn't say. Instead, “I was anchored onto you like a buoy.” I replied out loud while walking over to his room door to leave, before walking out I turned, “But you left me to drown in the ocean of my tears and love for you.” And like that I walked out, feeling more broken than before.
//
“Mel wake up.” Ramona demands as she enters my room. I groan and turn on my side before pulling the covers over my head.
“Mel now, we have interviews.” Ramona says while ripping the covers off of my body, causing me to tumble off the bed and land on my back.
“Fuck.” I yelp before sitting up rubbing my lower back to try and relieve some pain. I shoot Ramona a deathlike glare and proceed to get up and walk to my dresser and grab a decent outfit for today.
I settled on a plain black t-shirt with denim shorts and black stockings, tying the outfit together with my black doc martins and a simple choker. I spray my favorite fruity perfume and walk over to my bed to grab my bag. Keys, phone, earbuds, wallet, and charger is all there. Please with everything I walk over to my body mirror and pull up my messy purple hair into a simple ponytail pulling some strands of hair from the sides to frame my face. I quickly walk over to my dresser and fill in my eyebrows, and then swipe on a few coats of mascara.
“Ramona are you ready?” I call into the hallway as I depart from my room, only to see my sister waiting patiently on our couch twirling her keys with her pointer finger.
“I've been ready now come on.” She replies rolling her eyes before disappearing behind our front room door.
-
“Now you guys have a gig in a few days?” The bleach blonde reporter asks. If anyone questioned me on how I felt my answer would be annoyed, this reporter's voice is annoying and she seems to be trying too hard just for an interview.
“We do, it will be in downtown LA and it's only five dollars to enter, we will be giving everything we earn to charities.” Ramona beamed, I'm proud that she came up with the idea of us giving all our earnings to charity.
“Now Mel, I'm going to ask you a few things,”
God no please.
“How are you? With the whole Calum cheating mishap?” She questions furrowing her blonde and fairly thin eyebrows, her green eyes piercing through my whole soul.
I swallow down the large lump in my throat and twirl my thumbs around each other, looking down at my lap. “Well I should be saying that it's okay, but that'd make me the biggest liar ever if I said that. So it's not okay and it won't ever be, I believe that he knows his actions had such a big impact like they did. They ruined me, but the fact that he never noticed me catching on, him deleting our pictures and going out with her when we had plans. That destroyed me, broke me down.” I mumbled earning a small ‘mmmm’ from the green eyed blondie.
“Do you ever wish to go back to when you two first met? Connected?”
“See that's the sad thing about time. I do wish I could go back, but you can't. Once time passes you can't go back, you either mourn its absence or focus on the here and now. I feel myself mourning Calum quite often. My heart feels hollow and I can't trick myself into thinking that I'm whole. My body knows Calum is not with me, I should have told him that I knew, I should have hugged him tighter, fought a little harder, cried a little louder. I could have, but I didn't and I wish I did.” I reply wiping the tears away, not daring to look back up at the reporter.
“I'm sorry Mel.” Ramona coos, rubbing small circles on my back to try and help me.
“You and Calum met at a party? What do you think would've happened if you ignored him?”
I laugh at her question, how would I have reacted? “I probably would've had a hard time ignoring him anyway. Those eyes of his pulled me in, and anyone who says his brown eyes are boring they are so horribly wrong- they're so easy to fall into. His were beautiful, so easy to fall into. Maybe the alcohol helped, but I felt dizzy looking into them. We stayed on the front lawn that morning, just joking around laughing with each other, and even though we missed the sunrise, I felt like I had witnessed the greatest artwork of all time just watching him. How his eyes crinkled around whenever he'd genuinely laugh. His smile, I love that smile so much, I love him so much.” I whimpered, taking that it's too much I get up and walk out of the room. People are coming around me, shoving water bottles and tissues in my hands, I start to panic there's too many people and it's making everything worse.
“Please move.” I whimper feeling overwhelmed with all the crowding around me. Nobody listens, their voices just overlap and it all becomes too much, the Calum questions, the upcoming gig, and the cheating, all of it's too much. I push through everyone and rush to the exit to try and calm myself with some fresh air.
“Look who came to the party. Want a smoke?” A voice by my left side asks. I turn my head and face Josh, great now my ex?
“No.” I hiss, turning my head away from him not wanting to see the drummer, the person who once taught me my dream, my passion.
“That's one way to treat me. But I guess you're aloud to be mad since that boy broke you. What was his name? Calum? The bassist?” He sneered causing me to turn back to him and take a couple steps closer to his face. As I'm gazing at him, I can see the stubble on his chin that he has yet to shave, and smell the deathly minty scent off of him that overwhelms my senses. Memories flooding through my head of Calum, yet Josh is showing every other picture.
“Don't ever talk about him, you don't deserve it.” I spat, causing him to smile widely. He threw his cigarette on the floor and stomped on it, turning ever so slowly to face me again.
“And you don't deserve the hurt he brought you princess.” He replied walking away from the building leaving me standing here with so many thoughts.

my dad was adopted but im white passing bc my mom is dutch so every time i get asked if i have aboriginal australian/pacific islander blood ive just gotta ???? ? ????? its anyones fuckin guess my guy its fucked tho bc there are so many points for euther conclusion. my actual goddam facial structure alone holds. so many clues bc i have this sort of wide round nose, with the shallow bridge (its a very pacific islander/maori/aboriginal Australian nose) but then even tho im fat my enormous cheek bones are still pretty visible and i have this sorta softer version of john travoltas chin, which i hate, so i was about to say my face is eupropean around the edges, but then i just looked it up and cheekbones are a sort of across the board thing so now im even more ?????? And i have these nigh-black eyes, right? And my hair is like 3a, borderline afro-curly when its not brushed out or greasy also im 6ft tall and islanders are generally tall, question mark? (Not sure if thats a stereotype or a genuine anatomical thing,,, •~•) also going a bit deeper my dentist told me that my teeth dont quite have enough room (were talking under a milimeter; theyre all but perfect, the bottom ones are just stuck under the edge of the ones before them) - my wisdom teeth arent impacted, theyre really well formed, but for some reason the dna coding responsible for the length of my jawbone and the size of my teeth were not on the same page?? look at Bumpercar cucumberpatch's jaw vs like,,, dwayne johnson's jaw in length. you think dwaynes teeth would fit in candlebumps mouth? i dont think so. I also just. Dont wear shoes. Neither does dad,,, we walk barefoot all kindsa places, and only wear shoes if theyre specifically required. Dad tans like 3 shades darker than anyone in my family. He has the same eyes and hair that i do, but not the same nose? Same chin and jaw tho. local aboriginal circles just consider him a cousin on the dl. He just considers himself white bc since he doesnt know for sure he doesnt want to con the government out of money on suspicion. Another thing,,, Moana really called to me. And tbh i live in fear that its just a "ive lived so long as a boring cultureless white person that i want to cling to a culture so bad its skewing my judgement" but like,,,, ive had like ideallic thoughts about islands since i was small? ive loved water but come to hate sand, but thats more like a personal quirk than an innate trait. I have this primal urge to watch the stars for hours on end?? Ive never had seasickness - acually its the opposite i take to sea legs so quickly my friends say its freaky, and then it took me 3 weeks for my body to stop using my sea legs after 24 hours on a boat one time. Also happens on long long train rides (Wait Yall know that thats acually a thing right? Your body does a supplementary rockig motion to the boats passive movement) Like what if those are traits i inherited. Im pushing my parents to get these dna tests so ill know one way or another, for sure, by the end of this month hopefully but like,,,, goddam does anyone have any thoughts or like,,,, testimonials or something? I drew my face and my existential dysphoria kicked in and now i feel like s h i t

ofc, you can have any imagine you want my love
I M A G I N E
Fan hate.
It’s something you were forced to put up with when it came to dating Calum. It came with many downsides that put you in a very complex situation. Along with fan hate was the distant that was between you guys almost most of the years you two have been together. Then there’s the jealousy that consumes you every time you see millions of fans at meet-and-greets go to kiss your very boyfriend on his chubby cheeks.
You thought you could handle it, as you have been able to for a fair couple of years. But, on the flight to Australia to see the Hoods, you couldn’t help but feel like your tolerance was reaching its limit. It made you uneasy, twiddling your thumbs anxiously as you tried to listen to some music. But listening to Attention by the Weeknd gave your tongue a bit of distaste.
How selfish were you? Your very own mind spat at you as you studied the screen in front of you. But you couldn’t pay attention to the action film in front of you as the image of Calum being kissed by all these fans was taunting you.
It was cruel of you. You were already fortunate enough to date the amazing bass player. He loved you differently from the fans, the boys, and his family. You were the girl he chose from the crowd, the only girl that managed to illuminate his life with one simple smile. Your personality stood out from them all, having you become Calum’s girl.
But that was the beginning of everything.
Time has passed, and the attention he used to give you has been slipping away slowly. And you understood as he was a rockstar pursuing his dreams. But it began to hurt. He’d only call you once a week and text you once every 3 days. It was like he was becoming bored of you. Could that even be a possibility? Perhaps.
But even so... you looked down at the plane ticket he paid for. First class ticket to Sydney, where you’ll be picked up by Mali and taken to the house of the Hoods. The boys are on break, so Calum wanted to finally spend time with you. Just like you two planned.
But your paranoia was still getting the best of you as your tolerance is on the edge.
“Y/N, you’ve had that gloomy face since I picked you up,” Mali said, glancing at you slightly as her hands firmly held the car wheel. You give her a sheepish smile as you attempted to lift your mood. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, of course,” you gave Mali a reassuring smile as you picked at your nails. “It was a long flight, and travelling through timezones is exhausting as hell.” You faked a yawn, even though you really were tired. Mali giggled, nodding as she put her eyes completely back on the road. Your smile quickly fell back down to a frown as you studied your hands.
Within minutes, Mali was parking at their driveway as you grabbed your bag firmly. Once she parked, you calmly left the car and let out a sigh. Just smile and be happy that you’re finally spending time with him, you thought. It used to be so easy. What’s going on?
“He’s literally gonna cry when he sees you,” Mali gushes as she locks her car and takes out her house keys. Walking over to the front door, you watch her open the door and let you in. “Calum, I got her!” She yells, having you giggle as you came inside and went to greet Calum’s mother.
“Y/N! How are you, dear?” Joy contently greeted you, having her arms open up just for you. Entering them, you give Joy a firm hug and a kiss on the cheek. She was practically like a second mother for you, considering how sweet she’s always been to you. You always felt at home around her, like you’re her very own daughter as well.
“I’m incredible, Joy, how have you been?” You ask happily as you two held each others arms. She was practically radiating from the sight of you.
“Happier now that you’re here as well!” Joy said with sincerity. “It’s always good to have my boy and his amazing girlfriend over for a bit. I always feel the love between you two.” You smiled. but you couldn’t help but feel a little hurt. The love between you and Calum feels like it’s faltering just a bit as time goes.
“Y/N!” Calum cheered as he ran into the kitchen and grabbed you from Joy. He gave you a big hug, making you squeal from the sudden grasp. You wrapped your arms around him as well, feeling your heart race from the contact. “I missed you...” he whispered in your ear, feeling your cheeks heat up as you nodded gently.
“I missed you as well,” you whispered in return, having him hug you tighter. Although this moment felt as though your relationship was weaving itself back together, the next day had your doubt come back.
“Calum? D’you wanna go to the movies?” You asked quietly as you awkwardly stood in the doorway of your shared bedroom. Calum was laying down on his bed, his chocolate eyes glued onto his phone. He was looking through tweets since the both of you have woken up, not even giving you a morning kiss. “Calum?”
Still nothing.
“How about a picnic to the park?” You suggested with a small smile. “I can ask Joy to make us a basket and we can walk over to your favorite park. You can bring your guitar, too. Maybe write a bit of music?”
Silence.
“Calum...” you said quietly, your hope slipping away as he put his phone down and gave you an agitated look.
“Can’t you see I’m busy, Y/N?” Calum lashed at you. “These tweets aren’t gonna answer themselves you know.” You simply blinked, unable to comprehend what just happened. He put the fans before you. This hasn’t been the first time, and you understood that he loves his fans and has to attend to them. But you haven’t seen this boy in seven months while he’s been all over the world with millions of fans screaming his name.
You’ve reached the limit.
“Alright,” you said, swallowing harshly before you began packing up your bag. As you were finishing up, Calum finally noticed and put his phone down. But you didn’t bother raising your eyes to him.
“Y/N, what’re you doing?” Calum asked, acting as though he’s done nothing. You stand up once more with your bag now hanging from your body. Weaving your hair back, you turned your back to him and began walking out the room. “Y/N! Come back-- where are you going?”
“To the airport,” you say as you rush yourself down the stairs. Calum quickly followed, catching up to you. His calloused hand caught your shoulder and turned you around. Finally catching your eyes, he noticed them coated with tears and flinched.
“The airport? Y/N, what’s going on?” Calum asked, his almond eyes filling themselves up with worry. You looked into them and felt tears slipping out of your eyes. Biting your bottom lip, you let out a ragged sigh and gulp down your anxiety.
“I’m going home, Calum,” you mutter, sniffling a bit as your emotions were taking you aback. Calum quickly grabbed your soft hands, giving you a scared look as he held you.
“Wh-what are you talking about? Baby, you are home...”
“You’re no longer my home...” you whispered painfully as you gave his hands a light squeeze. “We’re done, Calum. I’m done being stuck in second place.” How selfish, how greedy. “I’m sorry.”
“Y/N, no, no no no,” Calum began, his voice becoming shaky. He tightened his grip on your hands as you felt him tremble. “Y/N, you’re my girl. You’re my whole world, space, stars-- everything. Second place to what, baby? You’d never be second!”
“I’m intruding into your career now, Calum,” you said quietly. You looked down at your feet, feeling your toes curled in your white converse. “You have to tend to your fans and I guess I understand now that I can’t be in that mixture anymore.” It pained you to see your loved one hurting. But you had to do this, for you and him.
“Y/N, no, please don’t go!” Calum wept, tears finally escaping those eyes you fell in love with. Your hands slipped from his as you quickly fled through the front door and began walking to the street. You quickly got a taxi, slipping inside as Calum placed his hands on the window. “Y/N! Y/N please don’t leave me! Fucking please!”
“I’m sorry,” you said, placing your hands on the window to be in sync with his. You told the taxi driver the airport you wanted to go to as you began to drive away. Calum attempted to chase you down but by 3 blocks, he stopped and fell to the floor.
You watched as the man you loved pounded the concrete floor in pain.
3 months later...
“This way, Y/N,” the doorman greeted as you walked into the 5SOS pad. Your eyes kept shifting from the many dancing guests in the home. Thanking the doorman, you held your strapless purse with both hands while walking around. You were hoping to see the boys and Michael to give him his birthday gift and flee immediately.
It’s only been 3 months, but its felt like a year since you’ve seen your favorite Maori boy. After breaking his heart (and yours in the process), you haven’t been able to even try becoming friends with him. He pleaded for you to return to be his girl, and as much as you wanted to-- you resisted. Your greedy self wanted all his attention that you didn’t deserve. But the way he put you second just broke you into millions of pieces.
Wandering carelessly, you quickly halted when your eyes met the ones with the beautiful almond colors. Your heart was racing when you saw the Maori boy with the chubby cheeks and the short hair. He was dressed in a suit, but still had a pair of converse on. He was never one to get completely dressed up, you thought.
“Y/N...” Calum mumbled, his voice slightly raspy. His eyes were slightly puffy and pink, like he’s been crying for a while. Was that because of me? You didn’t want to believe it, but that was probably the case. “Look at you...” he was awestruck by your appearance, having a few tears begin to well up in his eyes.
“Shit!” You heard Ashton exclaim as he rushed to Calum’s side. Ashton gave you a smile, having you give him a sheepish wave before he began taking Calum away. But as he was, Calum kept shouting your name.
“Y/N!” Luke and Michael greeted, giving you a big hug as you smiled at them. You were happy to see the boys, even though the sight of heartbroken Calum was swelling your heart. The boys then looped their arms around yours and guided you outside to the pool with haste.
“Guys?” You asked them as they rushed you outside. You were introduced to the night once more as you looked at Muke stand with concern. They were both dressed up nicely, with the birthday boy wearing a cute little crown. “Why are we out here?”
“Y/N, do you love Calum?” Luke asked, giving you a serious look with his blue eyes as icy as ever. You gulped, looking at him before looking at Michael. The pair of green eyes was giving you the same stare, one that made your legs feel like jelly.
“Of course I do...” You said with a sigh. Your gaze dropped down to the tiles, studying their form as you tightened your fists. “But, out of love, I had to let him go. I’m such a selfish girl, I want him solely to myself. But he has fans and I was tired of sharing... of being second.”
“Y/N, he’d never put you second,” Michael began, clearing his throat. “Calum has been focused on the fans lately, I give you that. But he has to because they are the reasons we’re here living our dreams. He loves them, Y/N.” Your fists only got tighter from hearing that, making you attempt to gulp down your tears.
“But the way he loves you is so much different,” Luke says. “You are his muse, Y/N. You are the reason he wakes up and goes to sleep soundly. You are the inspiration for the words he writes and the songs he sings. You are his music, his escape.” Your firsts were hurting from how much you’ve been grasping at nothing. “Don’t you see? You’re his--”
“Calum!” You heard Ashton shout as the sliding doors opened. You looked up to see Calum run to you. Quickly, he grabbed you in his arms and planted his face in the crook of your neck. Tears began to ornate your neck as Calum wept on you.
“My world, my sun, my moon, my reason to live,” Calum muttered, holding you as if someone was gonna take you from him. “Let me come home, Y/N. Please let me back home...” his fingers began digging lightly into your skin, having him grab a bit of your clothing.
Your hands loosened, having them hang as you were stunned. The boy you’ve loved for years, who you broke, was holding you in his arms. You didn’t deserve it, and you know you didn’t. But Calum wanted you. He wanted you more than anything at that very moment and every second after. Sighing, you smile weakly before wrapping your arms around the Maori boy.
“Welcome home,” you whispered as you gave one of his cheeks a small kiss.
