Once again I am driven to stress rock painting. This time thought I’d try that technique where you don’t fully mix colours to try and give a streaky effect. Blue metallic and black in this case. I couldn’t decide if it looked more underwater or spacey so why not both?

“Before we depart, we have one more order of business,” Allura announced. She looked directly at Lance.

Lance did what he always did when he sensed he was about to get in trouble for something.

He played innocent.

“And what’s that, Allura?” he asked, clasping his hands behind his back and smiling sunnily. The picture of blameless virtue, he was.

Allura raised an eyebrow. “The creature, Lance. The one you have set up in my pasture.”

Lance quickly ran through his options, and decided the best route was to play dumb for the time being. “Pasture? What’s that?”

Allura rolled her eyes, not buying it. “You know what a pasture is, Lance.”

Lance shrugged, schooling his face into an appropriately baffled expression. “Maybe it’s a mistranslation? I’m not sure what a pasture is.”

Allura sighed, but decided to indulge him. “A pasture is an area with lots of low plants, for grazing animals.”

Lance’s grin turned devious, and Allura immediately realized her mistake.

“Grazing animals? Like a cow, perhaps?” he asked cheekily.

There was a laugh from behind her, covered poorly with a cough. She whipped around to glare at the offender, but the paladins were all looking away, desperately trying to hide small smiles. Allura shook her head, trying in vain to hide her own amused grin. She shared a look with Coran, who was twirling his moustache in mirth, before sighing and returning to look at Lance.

He looked very smug.

“I suppose you may keep your beast,” she decided. “Provided that you care for it and prove that it is useful.”

“Prove that’s he’s useful,” Lance insisted.

“Kaltenecker has udders, Lance, it’s a girl,” piped up Pidge.

Lance stuck his tongue out at her. “He mooed sadly at me when I called him a girl! Clearly he’s a boy cow!”

“It did not moo sadly, you doofus —”

“He did too!”

“Did not!”

“Did —”

“Paladins,” Shiro interrupted, “please argue about this where I can’t hear it.”

“Seconded,” agreed Keith.

Both paladins rolled their eyes in tandem, but complied.

“Is there anything else we need to discuss before we wormhole, Allura?” Hunk asked, guiding everyone back to the task.

Allura shook her head, heading over to the control station to start up the wormhole. “Everyone to your stations and prep for the jump,” she instructed. She closed her eyes, bringing up the image of their next galaxy. It was time for Team Voltron (plus a quiznacking cow, because one of her paladins is an exceptionally good negotiator, apparently) to get out of this disaster quadrant.
