TOP TEN: i m p o s s i b l e

Really though I’ve been sitting here marveling at the fact that, this show has been on since 2005, it has either 17 or 20 full seasons with two more on the way, (the episode counts are weird) I can pop in Season 2 or Season 16 still have a grand old time. They just do...whatever the hell they want, and it works!

I wracked my brain for several months, I made some painful cuts, here’s my top ten lol. In no particular order. Just barely managed to figure out what my fave ep of all time is

Spoilers!! Kind of. I don’t want to spoil these in case people wanna watch them. But who am I kidding; I’m screaming into a void over here. ANYWHO:

The Life and Times of Stan Smith 12-15

Okay. So one set up in this show is, Stan is against something. Turns out he can’t avoid that thing or it’s a Good Thing Actually. He gets waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too far into it. Shenanigans!! It’s great, I love it. My favorite example is this episode. He gets addicted to dying. Like...like actually dying.

Meanwhile, Steve goes to Arizona State University and does not have a good time

Daddy Queerest 4-19

This episode just warms my heart. Greg and Terry are a gay couple that live across the street. Terry’s dad is visiting for the weekend and doesn’t know Terry’s gay. Dramaaaa!! Oh my god, the ending of this one is so cute and good.

Meanwhile, Roger buys beer for Steve and his friends at a party. For $12 profit.

I feel like i should acknowledge something. *sigh* So yeah. Greg and Terry *are* that stereotypical gay couple where almost every joke with them is that They're Gay. But i dunno, I never got the sense of any malice behind it. They're never put down by other characters for it and there's never any theme or joke that it's bad to be gay and over the top like them?

I understand why it is annoying to only see that portrayal and that the joke being HAHA GAY is bad though so...Your Mileage May Vary

Hayley Smith, Seal Team 6 11-3

Eps like this one make me so happy this show got a second chance on another channel. Hayley ends up mentally regressing to age six. Jeff and Klaus try to get her back to normal. I love all the little bits they do that show how her relationship with her parents was like.

Meanwhile, a weird stranger convinces Steve and his friends to use a slow cooker while making pork. He’s not even a real pervert!

There’s this adorable part when she does patty-cake with Roger which shows they used to like each other too.

EXCEEEEEEPT!! [extra nerdy glasses on] In season 2, Roger sings a song about how he used to be close friends to Steve. And in that, when they first met, Roger is shown to be given to Steve as a birthday present.

While Hayley and Francine freak out, and the design they use for Hayley is her mid-puberty design in a later ep

THEREFORE they did not meet when she was six. Episode recalled

Lost in Space 8-18

Jeff is trapped on the ship of Roger’s people. Pretty much every episode about Jeff going to, being in, or result of space is really good. I could shove them all into this...part of this non-numbered list

It's adorable! Like almost painfully so. Whenever I hear people say this show is too mean or gross I can think of several episodes where they're not lol

Haylias 3-5

This one was my top fave for the longest time. Hell it still might be. Turns out Hayley was trained to be a CIA sleeper agent. Stan re-activates her so she’ll be independent in the way he prefers...kind of. He actually feels a little guilty about it.

Meanwhile, this is also the ep when, the myths, the LEGENDS, Wheels and the Legman are born!! Fantastic [Steve and Roger pretend to be detectives and half the joke is they're making it up as they go along. it's one of my favorite plot threads ever in this show]

Flirting With Disaster 6-18

Soooo...Stan and Francine. I love them so much. They're insane. Ohhhh my god. In this one, it’s revealed that Stan flirts with other people at work. Nothing that leads to an affair or anything. Francine ends up working there and everything’s fine until something happens that renders her horrifically scarred. Now they gotta learn how to flirt with each other again.

It starts with an...homage? Parody? Of “The Office”, but with who Stan works with at the CIA. They keep with that parody in how the scenes are shot and the general humor, until the first commercial break. They also explain that in-universe in a funny way that isn’t too meta. (Oh man, I could go ON about how this show does meta humor) The humor they do isn’t too far off from how the show generally is, so when it goes back to how the show is normally shot it’s not too jarring.

Meanwhile, Steve builds birdhouses as a hobby and Roger starts a business with that. There’s this one part with birds that leaves me in shock and awe every time like jesus christ it’s just soo...the efforts they go to just for A Bit in this show. I need to make a separate post about that I just sfhdjsjfhsdklghdslkgds

Yule. Tide. Repeat. 15-22

The Christmas eps of this show. SHIT GETS WILD. Almost every one that’s come out has been in my top fave episodes. Stan wants to have a normal, “Norman Rockwell Christmas,” because every one they’ve ever had has been very bad and very weird. His words, not mine. Something goes terribly wrong, and Stan ends up caught in a time loop where he has to pick the right path to find his family.

There’s a part with gore, and honestly gore jokes are one of my least favorite parts of this show. BUT. It’s used effectively in this story. (and I will acknowledge that even though I don’t like gore jokes. at least when they happen on this show it’s actually a joke or part of the plot sooo whatever)

The Two Hundred 11-10

It’s the apocalypse for some reason. Stan wanders the earth with tattoos feeling real bad about how he treated his family. Greg is there too. He’s fun, I like Greg

West to Mexico 12-22

So every once in a while there will be an “au” episode, where the characters aren’t related to each other but still do a Thing. (I mean every once in a while; there’s only been like two or three over 300 eps and I’m not sure if one is even ‘canon’)

In this one, Stan’s an outlaw in the United States after the civil war. Wild west stuff happens. I think it's based on a movie. But when this show does movies they don’t just do a movie scene but it’s the characters and they’re meta about it, they’ll just do a scene or something similar to it. Like no one turns to the camera and says “heeey this is just like Djanjo Unchained!” or whatever it was. It’s based on something but it’s still done in the style and humor of the show, which is neat.

One Little Word 4-3

Oh god. THIS ONE. You know what, I’ve finally decided. This one is my favorite. This ep is like a culmination of everything I love about this show. The cringe AND the good shit. This was an ep that when it came on I’d feel like YEESSS IT’S THIS ONE. You know that feeling?? Like you know you’re gonna have an excellent time for the next half hour. I just...there’s so many little details and bits that are expanded upon later and little cute character moments and everything just builds to this hilarious payoff and AAAAAAH

There’s a couple jokes that are kinda...well not the worst thing ever but I can see why today people might be like...mmmm No. But mostly I just. Oh god. I just love I was able to fall in love with this one all over again. Christ I haven’t even said what it’s about yet.

So Stan wants to be Bullock’s number one at work. (there’s already Layers here) He goes so far to bring back his wife from being captured overseas. Meanwhile Francine wants to celebrate with Stan up alone at a lake. Unfortunately Bullock’s family ends up staying at Stan’s house…

(Lake Fraiser. I havent seen much of that show but recently I’ve been wondering if this episode is a parody of either an episode of it or just its style of writing in general?? I’ve wanted to watch Fraiser but never got around to it. The syndicated channel I watched reran this show, Two and a Half Men, and Friends instead. Baaarrff lmao)

Oh dear god I've done it. Kind of. See I’m looking at this list and there’s STILL sooooooo many I love where I’m like “what about this ep. And this one. And this one. Technically there’s infinite numbers between one and ten” There’s at least on ep per season in that top five list I did where I KNEW I’d be like “why isn’t This one on the list goddammit”

cross posting yesterday's rambling thread for posterity and because tumblr lets me edit things. anyway this is a sorta long thing and i might add things i forgot to mention in the twt thread

i tend to draw on-model canon because im a coward + just personal preferences. but the way i convert the canon designs into my artstyle is that i take the distinct features oda gives them and then combine it with personal headcanons to complete what should look like a unique human. Starting with Trafalgar Law, who is unfortunately a bland-ass conventionally pretty boy

someone commented a while ago the law hat drawing tutorial i made a while ago didn't make much sense and i realize its bc of the specific way i draw law's face: heart shaped (ba-dum-tss). That meaning, a narrow chin widening into a mild defined jaw, wide cheekbones, and up to his know-it-all brain dome.

given that, the pudgy guitar pick shape of his head i mentioned here should make a lot more sense.

i don't think this design point is unique to me, as most conventional pretty anime boy gets given jaws like this. a lot of law artists tend to veer into this head shape. just how life be sometimes. other points: flat, thick eyebrows is bc im a hairy gal and i need to feel better about myself.

Killer gets to be more interesting, because he shouldn't be considered conventionally attractive. my idea behind killer's is that those individual features is smth he would be insecure with enough to hide himself in a helmet but i draw him with all the love in the world actually. i'd like to think its how kid sees him or yknow, law, bc he's my kin assigned blorbo and maybe you ship lawkill as a guilty pleasure too i mentioned before (and ruined people's days) when i said whenever i draw killer he looks like griffith before i put on his goatee. the upper half of his face is distinctly feminine, with the lower half kinda over compensating. other than that uhh...idk. stan killer

Kidd is the bane of my existence, i feel like i can never draw his face consistently. yet at the same time he's so damn fun to draw everyone gotta try it.

my problem with kidd is that this mf does have eyelids. most kidd painters out there interpret this as him having deep set eyes (think Matt Smith or jeffrey star) . and yeh skill issue on me i should practice that. other notes, i try to make him younger than canon makes him look. he is my babygirl and he deserves to look cuddly. my band au kidd version has the honor of being allowed some chubs. he's just tries to look older and more menacing with edgy makeup. also i try to give him dimples when i can because, well i can.

Rosinante last bc i lost steam after kidd. the thing abt cora is that aside from not having eyebrows, everything is structured with the generic one piece man template. which means i gotta do everything myself doffy is there bc the way to figure out how to draw these two is to give them minor differences from each other, that being doffy gets slightly sharper features. in canon, these two are also rly wide boys (more of an oda style feat tbh) but i make them long. though bigger brained donquixote artists know that of these two brothers, doffy should be the wiry-er built. anyway that's it. in conclusion, i need to draw more girls actually i feel like im becoming misogynistic by osmosis from oda's style and now i draw girls all looking the same too.

Question for Jon stans: so I think a lot of us expect Jon to leave the watch at some point in his story, whether in Winds or sometime in Dream. I tend to think he’s going to straight up desert the Watch, like going ‘fuck it I’m done here’ much like Bloodraven and Mance, instead of leaving on a technicality (i.e., a ‘he’s dead so he’s technically done his service’ type of thing). 

BUT the question is, does he go north or does he go south? I think it’s reasonable to assume either direction works narratively.

We have this:

Lannister studied his face. “Yes,” he said. “I can see it. You have more of the north in you than your brothers.”

Plus he’s been set up to parallel Bloodraven and Mance both of whom go north, and there’s this quote from AGOT that could be foreshadowing:

Far off to the north, a wolf began to howl. Another voice picked up the call, then another. Ghost cocked his head and listened. “If he doesn’t come back,” Jon Snow promised, “Ghost and I will go find him.” He put his hand on the direwolf’s head.

“I believe you,” Tyrion said, but what he thought was, And who will go find you? He shivered.

There’s also symbolism in him embracing the name “Snow” and living in the snowy north….

But then we these quotes from AGOT as well that’s essentially about him finding the Wall to be stifling and equating freedom with the south:

“Yes. Cold and hard and mean, that’s the Wall, and the men who walk it. Not like the stories your wet nurse told you. Well, piss on the stories and piss on your wet nurse. This is the way it is, and you’re here for life, same as the rest of us.”

Plus there’s the whole thing with him seeing three different trees which could serve as representing his arc in the series, and the final tree faces south…

- Massive fucking NERD!! (pls i love nerds).

- Got straight A’s throughout high school.

- Was on the honour roll and was on student council.

- Firm believer in basketball Kyle supremacy.

- Came out as Demisexual and Bisexual (male leaning).

- Stopped being super strict on Kosher throughout high school but kept that a secret from Sheila.

- Never stopped being insecure about his nose. Literally at one point started saving for a nose job till Stan talked him out of it.

- Drinks almond milk.

- Thinks thrifting is gross cause he’s a germaphobe. Washes his hands like 50 times a day.

- When I hear the song Basic Instinct it reminds me of Kyle.

- The Smiths > The Cure.

- Style: Stan fell first, Kyle fell harder (bro i love these dweebs lol).

- Was legit so in denial about being in love with Stan for the longest time.

- An absolute gentleman. Refuses to let you get out of his car without him opening the door for you. Holds doors and pulls out seats. Always gives you his jacket.

- Was very insecure about his sexual inexperience. But y’all guided each other through it. I think there’s something so sweet and special about that.

- Touch tank by quinnie is all I have to say 😼.

- Loves kissing your neck and ears. He kisses your knuckles as well it’s very tender.

- Combusts when he sees you getting along with his family. Especially his Mum and Ike.

- Let’s you touch his hair, it relaxes him a lot.

- Opens up to you about his struggle with his Dad and nicotine. You are his biggest supporter through it all.

- Even though he hates photos, he’ll have a polaroid of y’all in his phone and wallet. Plus a photo booth strip in his car.

- Y’all will bake at midnight together.

- You go on fancy dinner dates together and rate the restaurants in the car together.

- Kyle always had trouble sleeping but there was something very comforting about your presence so he’ll spend a lot of time at your dorm.

OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE THIS QUESTIOOOONNN

So since May 2023 (what happened there? I have no idea 😉) I've watched everything Jonah-related I could get my hands on (except for Little Women, but I'm definetly going to watch that later this year).

My top 3 Jonah projects OTHER than The Little Mermaid (because truth be told, I think it's pretty clear how obsessed I am with that movie and it's not really a fair comparison to some of the more indepent, even low budget projects Jonah has starred in) so far:

1. World on Fire (2019 - 2023)

Big shocker, right? Given how much I already rambled about Harry and Kasia (my traumatised parents) and how upset I was when they cancelled it. I will always mourn this show for the huge potential it had.

World on Fire is a BBC-show following different people in Britain, Poland, Germany and France (with some American viewpoints as well) as they have to endure and navigate their life through World War II. Doesnt really sound like anything we haven't seen, right? However, World on Fire is worth checking out imo, since it differs a lot from the usual Hollywood-infused war epics, because rather than focusing on the politics or the big battles, the show looks more closely at the everyday person that actually had to live through this tragedy and how they deal with what's happening. That being said, obviously this is still a show about WW II, so there definitely IS depiction of violence, murder and torture, as well as bombings, gunfire etc., so please be careful if you find any of those things triggering. I personally found some episodes quite hard to get through.

I think it's interesting that Jonah's filmography is very heavy on projects set during or related to WW II (additionally to WoF you have The Song of Names, Ashes in the Snow and ofc coming up The Tattooist of Auschwitz). Theories on why that is are welcome!

Harry Chase (brilliantly brought to life by our favourite British simp) differs quite a bit from many of Jonah's other roles in that he`s not your heroic, clean-cut good guy (like Andrius, Lucas, Mo or Prince Eric). He's insecure and a little helpless, even cowardly at times. Harry starts out as a translator, but later joins the British Army and the SOE. He fucks up repeatedly, both in his role as lieutenant, as well as in his personal life. Even though most of the time he means well, his cowardice ends up hurting a lot of people and leads him to be in the middle of a love triangle. (Though to me it's not a triangle, but rather a straight line, Team Kasia all the way.)

Harry, though deeply troubled, is a very kind and soft soul. That doesn't really pair well with the acts of war, as well as british society in the 1940s in general, which leads to conflict with other characters and their idea of who he should be. Especially when he clashes with his mother Robina (portrayed by the absolute MAGNIFICENT Lesley Manville, shes giving Emily Gilmore in the best way possible), Jonahs acting is ON POINT. His performance is so nuanced: He's angry, he's desperate, he's sad, but also condescending, sarcastic and hostile towards her. The interesting thing about Harry is the journey he takes. To watch him try to better himself by dealing with past trauma and taking responsibility for present mistakes. The real standout for his character is episode 5 of season 1 where he finally steps up and takes charge. This is also when he starts earning the respect of his sergeant Stan (Blake Harrison) for the first time - they have a real bromance, both on and off the show, I LIVE for these two.

But - just like in real life - he doesn't have this one breakthrough moment and everything is smooth sailing from there. He fluctuates, just like a real person would. He still has the tendency to run away from his problems, but I think what he's seen in the war, what happened at home and (yes, I'm making this about my ship) his love for Kasia (Zofia Wichlacz) make him realise the type of man he wants to be and he would probably try to act accordingly IF WE GOT A THIRD SEASON, BBC! 😤😡🤬

2. Old Boys (2018)

If you can only watch one Jonah movie, I beg of you MAKE IT THIS ONE!

I`ve found next to nothing about Old Boys and that seriously has to change. (watched the entire movie again, getting my non-existing gif-making skills ready, just the night before I got this ask, talk about fate)

This movie is so underrated, it doesn't even have a Wikipedia entry. Make it make sense! How is nobody watching this cutie-patootie work of art? Its adorkable in the best sense of the word, it's heartwarming, a little silly and oh! so funny!

It's losely based on the play Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, set in an all-boys british boarding school in the 1980s. Given the source material, catfishing is definetly a thing here, keep that in mind if you might find that topic difficult.

Alex Lawther's character Amberson (cliché school nerd and victim of bullying) falls in love with the new french teachers daughter Agnes (Pauline Etienne) who in turn has a crush on First-Class-Himbo Winch (portrayed by a beautiful, dimple-faced, british actor). Because Agnes is very artistic and looking for someone that matches her vibe, Amberson helps Winch to try to impress her, because Winch himself is... well... a little dim 😅.

Winch is easily my favourite Jonah character to date (yes, including Prince Eric). I have seriously considered changing my tumblr-name to themightywinch because of him. I mean... he's corteous and punctual, after all 🤣😍.

While not the main character, he's definetly the highlight of the movie. Jonah is likeable, charming, the right kind of awkward in the right moments, has fantastic comedic timing and great chemistry with Alex Lawther.

Just look at that scene alone! IT`S. SO. CUTE!!! (cute-raging over here 😡) Watching this just makes you wish Jonah would star in more comedies, because he definetly has the skills for it! This is just a feel-good movie that leaves you smiling with a warm, fuzzy feeling in your heart. It has easily become one of my new comfort watches. Old Boys just never fails to make me laugh and I wish it would get more attention and recognition since it definetly deserves it! (like at least write a Wikipedia article about it) Btw, I bought this on Prime for 99ct, best money I ever spend!

3. The Last Photograph (2017)

(the trailer says 2019, but the movie was originally shown at the Edinburgh Film Festival in 2017)

Fair warning, this movie is gut-wrenching. I don't know if this qualifies as an actual trigger-warning, but this movie deals with the loss of a child/ death of a young person, as well as the real life tragedy of the Pan Am Flight 103 bombed in 1988 so proceed with caution.

Luke Hammond (Dimples McGee) is on said flight to visit his long-distance girlfriend Kate (Stacy Martin) in New York. Kate's and Luke's first meeting is a little awkward imo, I think it's meant to be like a meet-cute, especially with the whole "Bird"-thing, it just doesn't really work for me. But the rest of their love story is very endearing, they're just two young people experiencing love for the first time. Their time together is told through seemingly random, incoherent flashbacks and memories, just giving little glimpses of what their relationship was like and it's the cutest thing. Little intimate touches, hidden smiles, shared laughter... It's shot in a way as if you're watching them through rose-colored glasses, which is probably the point.

I love the way this movie uses different lighting and colour changes to depict a difference in the time line as well as the emotional state of the characters.

We only see Luke in flashbacks (guess why) and follow his dad Tom (Danny Huston) in present day (which in this case means 2003) as he is desperately trying to retrieve the last photograph (hence the titel) he possesses of his son after his bag was stolen. To see Tom slowly losing his grip as he grows more and more desperate to find the picture is truely heartbreaking. (It's a polaroid, so there are no copies, this is truely the last memory he has of Luke. God, I'm tearing up while writing this.)

Because Luke is basically just seen through the memory of his father who obviously holds him in high regard/ romanticizes the idea of his son, he is portrayed in a solely positive light, which usually wouldn't give much dimension to his character. Yet Jonah still manages to fill this role with life and witt and charisma, making you understand why Bird fell for him. He's sweet, romantic, a little bit shy, which works really well here, has the cutest laugh and clearly cares really deeply for his father. He's definetly portrayed as the "you simply have to love him" kinda guy, which is why his absence cuts so deep.

This is also in huge parts due to Danny Huston's performance. Honestly, the sweater-scenes (or jumper, if you're british 😉) almost broke me. And don't even get me started on his letter to Kate or Kate's letter to him... ugh. It's. So. SAD.

This is obviously not for everyday watch. However, even though The Last Photograph is heartbreaking, it doesn't necessarily leave you hopeless and depressed. This movie feels like a loving tribute to an actual person and therefore has a beauty in its melancholy. Throughout Tom's journey there is hope and forgiveness towards himself. There's a beautiful symmetry to the whole thing. The ending feels almost satisfying if you can say that in this context.

I also wanna give a shoutout to This Is The Night (2021). The movie itself isn't that great, it's a little all over the place and I think they tried to do a little too much all at once. But I looo~oooved Jonah in this, Christians character arc is by far the most interesting one and I wish the script gave their character justice in the way Jonah's and Naomi's acting did. (Also this is the HOTTEST he's ever looked which is a bit ironic).

This list is probably going to be outdated soon, since he has a lot coming out in the near future (I'm especially excited for Rich Flu).

I know Team Green hates Daemon, and I agree there are 172838 reasons for him to be hated. But Nettles is one of the only things that make him somewhat likable because even though the green side keeps going on and on about the grooming, let’s be real: the public wouldn’t care as long as Matt Smith had chemistry with the other actress. People didn’t care even when his scenes with young rhaneyra were framed as grooming.

And I’m sorry, a lot of y’all takes is always framed through the lenses of “how can I make Daemon look even worse than the scumbag he is” which fair, but then don’t pretend Nettles is in the center of those thoughts because she’s not. If she was, the first point in any meta would be to determine that Rhaenyra is the true villain of Nettles story and just because Rhaenyra was a victim of Daemon, that doesn’t make her worthy of being “sisters in pain” with Nettles when 1) Rhaenyra was racist against her and 2) Daemon was the one to actually save nettles; if it was up to Rhaenyra, Nettles would be another head decorating the gates of the red keep. It’s hard to take any of those metas seriously when y’all weaponize Nettles arc against Daemon and use her just the same as Team Black does, just for a different purpose. It’s still all about victimizing Rhaenyra, and Nettles is just an means to an end. So in the end, are y’all that much different from Team Black or Rhaenyra stans when it comes to Nettles?

George loves daemon; he never wrote his arc with nettles as a commentary on his pedo tendencies. He wrote that arc in spite of his pedo tendencies. He wrote that arc as a way to show “look, Daemon killed a bunch of people, groomed a few others, did terrible things his entire life and is cheating on his queen with a way too young girl, but look how cool and badass she is and how much she suffered in her life, and this time around Daemon really likes this girl and is willing to do selfless acts for her and protect her, a lowborn girl nobody else cares about, so here, he’s light too, see how gray and complex he is?”. And the truth is that public would eat that up because even with Daemon choking Rhaenyra, killing his ex wife, laughing at his second wife’s funeral and ignoring his third wife screams while she gives birth to a demon baby, he still has tons of people who think he’s awesome. That’s just the reality of it. Now, we can argue about the problematics of the storyline, we can argue about how George wants Daemon to get away scot-free, all of this are valid points and tbh I agree with many. But it doesn’t change the story.

I can’t actually engage with team green discourse when it comes to Nettles because y’all don’t see her as a character of her own. If y’all did, y’all would see she’s way more interesting than Rhaenyra and Daemon combined. That her arc is so much more than her relationship with either of them. That she disrupts the status quo, she comes bringing with her a pletora of questions about what it means to be a dragon rider, what it means to have dragon blood. She brings the perspective of the small folk, of the ones forgotten and not cared about when the royals are destroying each other. She survives. She becomes a legend. She is sooo much more than all of this.

The reason why I want Nettles in the show has nothing to do with Daemon, Rhaenyra and whatever takes y’all have on that relationship when it comes to them both. Nettles is not the “new Rhaenyra”, she has nothing to with that character. She’s not a folder to her story, she’s doesn’t exist solely to prove a point or to be used as a weapon to help in her victimhood. Rhaenyra is not the “new Rhea Royce”. Rhaenyra is Rhaenyra, a victim of Daemon as much as a villain in Nettles story. Nettles character doesn’t exist solely to villainize or whitewash Daemon, or to play a role in his story as a folder of his previous relationships. She’s her own character, with her own arc, with her own importance, with her own role, with her own message. Her romance is her own. Her importance is her own. The sacrifices made in her name were made because she was worthy of them. Stop using her just to make your point when the point you want to make is not about her, you are not sounding any better than the ones who dismiss her as just Daemon’s bastard or want her cut off entirely from the show. Your noise is sounding very similar to theirs if I’m being honest.

I managed fine without a car, but I'm also aware that college is different from adult life. I lived on campus all four years, so I had everything I needed right there- food, living space, and the occupation that took up most of my time (ie classes). Relying on transit to get you to work every day is different from using it to go Christmas shopping with friends or similar.

9-1-1: Lone Star's Ronen Rubinstein and Rafael Silva are setting network TV ablaze with their fiery queer romance.

Tarlos is here — and ready to take over.

Coined by fans of Fox’s hit procedural drama 9-1-1: Lone Star, the affectionate “ship” name is a portmanteau of the show’s queer main characters: firefighter-turned-paramedic Tyler Kennedy “T.K.” Strand and Carlos Reyes, an Austin police officer. The LGBTQ-inclusive series centers on the lives of emergency responders and also boasts names like Rob Lowe, Liv Tyler, and transgender actor Brian Michael Smith.

Watching Lone Star, which opens a fourth season in early 2023, it’s easy to see why fans love Tarlos. Their relationship — which began in the pilot episode in an Austin honky-tonk and evolved into a roller coaster of casual hookups, breaking up, moving in together, and eventually getting engaged — is a story LGBTQ+ fans could only dream about seeing on network television just a few years ago. Seeing these two characters — with their movie-star good looks and boys-next-door appeal — navigate life and love in relatable ways gives fans giddy feelings with every new episode (which is why discussions of Lone Star continually trend on Twitter during the television season).

Fortunately, out actors Ronen Rubinstein and Rafael Silva have the chemistry to bring these two Lone Star boys to life.

“I can’t imagine doing this with somebody that (a) you don’t like and (b) you don’t mesh well with on set,” Rubinstein says of Silva. Since they started this journey as Tarlos when Lone Star premiered in 2020, the two have grown close as both colleagues and friends. “I can’t imagine doing that with somebody that you don’t get along with and you don’t respect and you don’t love as a human being,” he adds. “I can honestly say that’s how I feel about Rafael.”

“Ro and I are just so fucking different as people…. But it’s this sort of yin and yang thing,” says Silva. “Two of the same pieces of the same puzzle are not going to go together, they’re just not. They have to be different in order to complement each other, and I think we do that very well as actors and as people.”

One of the first scenes the two shot together was a sex scene, and like with any intimacy on camera, that required a lot of trust — even if at the time, they had just recently met. But the two used their real-life newness with each other to their advantage, as it paralleled how T.K. and Carlos were also just getting to know each other, creating a realistic pairing that the stans simply can’t get enough of.

“At that point, when you have a bunch of people just watching you make out and do that, you have to rely on your partner,” Silva says. “It’s like we only got each other right now, so let’s just do whatever happens here, just go with the flow. Let’s just go.”

Tarlos, with all their confidence and chemistry, is one of television’s better examples of an LGBTQ+ couple just getting to live their messy but meaningful lives without extreme trauma keeping them apart. A couple like Tarlos was a portrayal Rubinstein and Silva didn’t see a lot of growing up, and that helped motivate them to portray T.K. and Carlos in a way never before seen by generations of queer TV watchers.

Silva, who was born in Brazil and spent the early part of his childhood there, says he was raised in a very male-dominated, machismo-drenched culture with a stigma surrounding gay people. It wasn’t until he was a young adult attending Pace University in New York City that he was exposed to queer culture, and he was able to “actively, fully be myself” as a gay man. And it wasn’t until he saw Viola Davis’s badass bisexual Annalise Keating on ABC’s acclaimed How to Get Away With Murder that he felt like he saw something of himself represented on television.

Like Silva, Rubinstein, who spent his childhood in the U.S. but was born in Israel after his family left the Soviet Union following its collapse, had a similar experience growing up in a culture that taught folks being gay or queer was verboten. “It just wasn’t a thing that was ever brought into my world,” Rubinstein says.

That is, until he caught the acting bug. Going into Manhattan for auditions and exploring the West Village introduced Rubinstein to people and cultures that he had never experienced before, and that’s when he started to realize he could truly be himself and like both men and women. (Rubinstein publicly came out as bisexual in April of 2021 while Lone Star’s second season was airing.)

“I remember going there, just wandering around, and I was like, ‘Oh, wow, this is amazing,’” he recalls. “I think that was probably the first time where I started looking at men differently. Especially growing up, [I don’t remember] anybody talking about being bisexual. That wasn’t even a term that I even knew existed. It was just gay or lesbian.”

Though they didn’t have much representation growing up, Silva and Rubinstein are elated by how many people are touched by Tarlos. “It’s really all over the world right now, it’s unbelievable,” Rubinstein reflects. “I’d be lying to you if I said, ‘Yeah, of course I knew it would be like this,’ or ‘Yeah, I expected it.’ First of all, just for this storyline to even be birthed, it is so risky. Especially for a network like Fox. If it wasn’t for [creators] Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear, it wouldn’t be possible, and it’s still shocking me to this day.”

What was also shocking for Silva and Rubinstein (in a good way) was getting to see just how much love fans were ready to give in real life, as the two got to meet Tarlos stans over the summer at the Dream It Not at Home convention in Paris.

“We met a lot of people saying, ‘I’ve been saving money to come here, I’ve been working overtime,’ so all I could hear was, ‘I’ve been putting in effort in order to see you,’” Silva says of the experience. “When you hear that, you feel the responsibility to also take them in.”

And they’re not taking any of that love and support lightly. With season 4 of Lone Star on the horizon, and with more Tarlos promised to viewers after a breathtaking proposal scene at the end of season 3, Silva and Rubinstein are more committed than ever to nailing their parts as authentically as possible. And they can’t wait for fans to see what season 4 has in store.

“I’ve definitely been shocked and surprised already within the first couple episodes. There’s definitely been some storylines where I’m like, ‘What?’” Rubinstein says. “It’s hard to predict what’s going to happen on the show, especially with us, so that’s been really cool. It keeps you on your toes, and when I get a script, I’m literally flipping through the pages as fast as I can because at any moment, there could be a bombshell — and we’re definitely going to have a couple this season.”

“Right off from episode 1, we’re going to find out some things that are funny, but it propels on to several beautiful episodes after the first one, and it’s going to be intense,” Silva says. “It’s going to be fun to watch and fun to do. Like what Ronen said, you can’t really expect much because things change a lot. Whatever you think is going to happen, Tim always brings something better than what your imagination can perceive. I think the fun part is just waiting to find out what actually happens.”

“The biggest thing is all paths lead to the wedding,” Rubinstein adds.

As the actors reflect on the future of their careers beyond Lone Star, both remain optimistic that LGBTQ+ representation is only going to improve, and they both want to work on projects that push boundaries and are more inclusive of historically marginalized identities. For Rubinstein, that means seeing more projects with bisexual male leads, and for Silva, that means adding Latinx representation to mainstream American media.

“I would love to do movies and work with some of my heroes, whether it’s Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale. I’ve been putting that out since I’ve started this journey, so hopefully it happens,” Rubinstein says. “I think, selfishly, I would like to see more male characters who are bisexual, especially in leading roles. It’s strange that it’s not happening more often. Maybe it’s going to take me to produce something or be the one that does it, but I’d love to see more of that. I think there’s a lot of stories to be told, but especially in the LGBTQ+ community.”

“If I’m going to dream, I want to do things that challenge me, that make me scared, but where I can also have fun and also, I’m going to say selfishly, where I can achieve a certain level in my career where I won’t feel like I have to explain myself,” Silva says.

I think so fondly about Jackson being a crossdresser. Just because he comes across as this tough guy but I feel like he has a really sweet side to him where he likes to wear heels and dresses and makeup. So I'm gonna give y'all some headcanons on how that came to be and some of his friends reactions to seeing him for the first time.

- The first time Storm ever wore heels it was a joke. He was out with some aqquantences and they went to the mall.

- He was dared to try on heels and when he dod, they made him feel powerful.

- He went home and was questioning things a lot, he knew he was gay, but this was much different from that.

- Fast forward a couple of months and it's June. Pride Month. He ended up going out to a pride parade, and he met some drag queens.

- He fell in love.

- He thought they were gorgeous, stunning, and beautiful. He wanted to be like that.

- He kept his cross dressing a secret for a pretty long time because of his father's reaction (I'll post headcanons about his father if anyone's interested!)

People's reactions

His Father:

The first person he showed was his father, hence why he hides it and only shows it to a few trusting people.

His father was pissed, yelled at him and told him to take it off. Said it was bad enough that he was gay, he didn't need to be dressing like a girl either.

Ray and Gale:

The next two people he showed was Ray and Gale, he trusted them the most out of everyone he's ever known.

They thought he was stunning. Gale almost cried. And Ray just gave him a proud papa smile. They both hugged him and thanked him for being comfortable enough with showing that side of himself.

To me I viewed it as a very heartwarming and key memory of Storms life.

Lightning:

Since in my AU Lightning is his partner, I headcanoned that it took a little while for Storm to really say anything.

When they'd go on dates Storm would wear something casual or a suit, but one night he felt confident and comfortable enough.

It was there 1 year anniversary.

Storm had been taking a while and Lightning was waiting for him patiently.

Finally, once Storm came out, Lightning was in AWE. The first words to come out of his mouth were "you're beautiful".

As for others? Some of the next-gens were dicks, others were pretty open to him.

And Cruz was just happy that he was able to open up to people for once.

Chick ended up saying the wrong thing on his talk show about it and Lightning Will Smithed him the next day.

But those are just some of the many hcs I have, I keep coming up with more and its taking over my brain ngl.

Thick as thieves, No one was shocked when he kneeled down and proposed at the age of twenty and here you were, three years later..in your big house that constantly felt empty. He said she met her at the gaming lounge with Sannie. “Just gaming friends babe” is what he constantly told you. Naive at first you believed it. You ignored all those red flags. Until Yunho was tired of watching from the sidelines, the constant flirting between the two in front of him constantly made him physically ill. You will forever be grateful to Yunho for making you take your rose colored glasses off and showing you what was truly happening. Woo always shook it off denying anything going on between the two of them, calling you crazy but he couldn’t make it anymore obvious.

Tilting your head back to swallow the tears you had been pouring out the last hour and a half. Forcing a smile on your face. “Hello!” you answered cheerfully like you had not just been crying so hard your chest had hurt. “Baby! I am going to be a bit late! San decided to stop and get flowers for his mom.” You know he was with her. You weren’t dumb.. Once upon a time you were hopelessly in love but not dumb. His voice spewing out lie after lie was driving you up the wall, physically making you ill. You let out a soft chuckle, amused by the lies he constantly loved to tell you. “That's no problem. I am just baking.” you replied while leaning on the kitchen counter, exhaling and rubbing your hand over your forehead. “You are the best gorgeous. I love you.” “I love y-” He had hung up before you could even finish your sentence which you were happy that he had. You couldn’t possibly choke down another fake i love you to him. It was emotionally draining , you tightly gripped your phone, taking a deep breath in. Staring ahead to the living room remembering all of yesterday, the sparks between the two, anyone could feel it. Yesterday was just extra clarification to let you know what you truly needed to do.

“San grab the damn platter!” Woo yelled. While trying to balance board games in his hands. “No one told you to grab twister and Yahtzee! No one likes Yahtzee Woo!”  With a smack of his lips San grabs the meat platter and trails behind Woo. Y/N looked up from the current conversation she was holding with Yunho and her eyes trailed over to Woo who walked in sporting the biggest smile, like always. Yunho looked down at Y/N and his eyes flickered over to Woo. Everyone but Mingi knew what Woo was doing to Y/N but yet no one but Yunho had the nerve to even attempt to save her. Yunhos smiled faded once he realized Woo wasn’t even glancing your way. His eyes trailed over to Mila the girl Woo was now head over heels for. Yunho saw your armor cracking day by day while your armor was cracking his heart was breaking for you. Gritting his teeth, he tapped your shoulder “Should we join everyone on the floor?” He said while flashing his pearly teeth. You drew your attention back to Yunho..”Oh..of course!” You tried to put on a genuine smile but it was so hard you had watched your husband fall for another girl right in front of your own eyes, getting the extra clarification was just the stamp of approval for everything. Plopping on the floor next to Yunho..trying to muster up the best smile you could.

 “And that’s when I said! You can’t swim with sharks Woo!” Mila barked out gripping her stomach laughing. Woo doubling over letting out his squawk of a laugh. While everyone looked at you, letting a pity smile through, San letting out an awkward chuckle. While Yeosang played with the string on his sweatpants, Hwa was layering cheese on his crackers, avoiding eye contact with everyone. Hongjoong looked back and forth between Woo and Mila, slowly his gaze fell upon his slightly chipped painted nails. Jongho nervously flashed his gummy smile..”That's my Hyung thinking he can swim with sharks.” He chuckled nervously. Yunho looked down at you, stone cold dissociating from the current events taking place right in front of you. It’s like Yunho could see the wheels turning in your head. “Y/n Y/n...? Y/N!” You faded back into reality, looking up and smiling at Mingi. “Yea Mingles?”. “I just wanted to see if you were going to be going to the gaming lounge with us tomorrow?” It got deadly quiet...you were positive you could hear everyone's heart beating at how quiet it was. Your eyes flickered to Woos and Milas..they both stared at you so intensely. You flashed your eyes over to Yunho who was staring Woo down, he let out a small chuckle. You put on the biggest fake smile you could.

 “No sorry Mingles. I have loads of chores to do around the house.”  He frowned..”I have an idea! Why don’t we help out! That way you can come!” He smiled so big his eyes shut. You noticed Milas hands had shook like she was nervous hearing Mingi confirming whether or not you would be coming along. “NO!” Woo shouted. Everyone turned their heads, staring at him. Woo slightly coughed, desperately trying not to look suspicious but failing miserably, clearing his throat. “You know how OCD she is about her cleaning! She knows she can always catch up with us another day. Right baby?” He flashed his smile at you. Milas jaw tensed up at hearing him call you baby. Mustering up the best smile you could..you looked him in the eyes, slightly tilting your head to the right “Of course Woo.” Mingi slightly nudged you with this elbow “Please?” He said with such a sad look on his face. His eyes flashed up to Yunho then back down at you. “It's been so long since we’ve all hung out..it's been six months now..you are my friend too.” Yunho let his eyes roam over Woo staring what felt like straight into his soul “Y/n is a friend to everyone here. No one could replace her. If she doesn’t attend I might not even go. Hate to have someone in our friend group not come.” He spoke with a passive aggressive tone. Mingi looked up at Yunho, following where his eyes were occupied. Mustering up a smile, you patted Mingi on the back “I promise next time.” Sticking your pinky out and smiling genuinely at Mingi. He started pouting and held up his pinky to lock with yours. “Next time! You promised, so don’t forget or I will cry.” “He means that too!” Yeosang spoke up, flashing a half smile your way.

 “A promise is a promise..I would never break one.” You silently whispered to Mingi. “Aww that sucks! I was really hoping us girls could be closer!” Mila suddenly spoke up with a fake sad pout on her face. Woo smiled as soon as she spoke, instant reaction. If anyone told you that you would be sitting in the same room as your husband's not so secret, very obvious mistress, you would’ve told them that they obviously don’t know your husband well enough..but as those thoughts clouded your brain you realized you didn’t even know your own husband well enough.

  You slightly tilted your head to the side smiling at her “Anyone need something out of the kitchen? I’m a little thirsty.” Y/N said while getting up and dusting off their pants. Everyone quietly refused. Yunho watched you walk away with your head held high and even though he knew you were cracked on the inside, not broken, you would never let anyone notice. As soon as you were out of earshot. Yeosangs hand swiftly came up, thumping Woo in the back of the head. Wincing slightly Woo rubbed his head shooting daggers at Yeosang. Yunho's face shriveled up, shooting daggers at Woo, while Hongjoong rubbed his hands over his face. Jongho looking down and picking at his nails, Hwa stuffing a cracker in his mouth while looking between Woo and Yeosang, San looking anywhere but his members. Mingi looked at his group of friends folding his legs up to his chest, feeling the shift in the air, making himself feel small. He could feel that something was going to change within their group dynamic..but he couldn’t exactly place his finger on what it was. He knew something was brewing, now he was just waiting for everything to boil over.

The pre heated oven beeping had brung you out of your thoughts. Blinking rapidly..you let a small smile creep on your face while wiping your tears. Only if Woo knew that you knew not only did Yunho and Mingi not attend the gaming lounge after yesterday's events, none of the boys did. You knew he was with her, the long nights of him coming home, you could smell her on him. Did he really think you were that blind...naive at times? Yes, stupid? Not in the slightest. You let out a small laugh which turned into you hysterically laughing, laughing so hard tears were pouring out of your eyes..you don’t know if they are tears of laughter or tears of pure heartbreak and realization. You let your hands run over your hair. Looking into the glass on the oven door...looking at your current state..eyeliner running down your cheeks, mascara smudged, your wicked smile painted on your face, truly looking like a scorned lover, insane. While continuing to look in the reflection. You decide you are in the mood for a much needed drink you waltz to your liquor cabinet. Sipping straight from the tequila bottle. Slowly the liquor was doing wonders on your body and giving you liquid courage. You push yourself off your kitchen counter...eyeing your and Woos wine glasses, the ones you sipped from on your wedding night, the ones you vowed over, promised over. A blind rage mixing with the liquor pumping in your veins. You grab your wine glass and pour Tequila in it. “For better or for worse! Sickness and health! For rich or for poor! You yell while raising the glass in the air, pouring the liquor from your glass in your mouth, suddenly you throw your wine glass at the wall screaming, letting out the pent up anger in your body surface. You shove all glasses from the cabinet, hearing them crash at your feet, sounding like the most beautiful music. Smiling wickedly, you open more cabinets as you throw all your wedding glass dishware that you saved from that special day on the kitchen floor. Letting out screams of frustrations, screams of being heartbroken, screams of defeat because you dedicated so many years to him.

 Opening every cabinet, you can in the kitchen and throwing the glass on the floor. Tears are pouring down your face, while you laugh menacingly. The glass crashing, while letting out heart wrenching sobs, You saved his wine glass for last..reaching up to grab it. Looking at an object with so much hate and disgust, you drop it hearing the glass shatter sends shivers up your spine. It's all sounding like the most beautiful symphony you have ever heard. The sweet symphony is cut short when you hear your phone ring. Pulling your head out of the current events you answer without even noticing who was calling. “Hello?” you answer, trying to catch your breath. “Baby! I will be home in about 30 minutes. While I was coming back from picking up dinner I got a flat. Don’t worry though, it's fixed! Also I picked up dinner!” He says with a slight laugh in his tone. Woo goes on talking in that loving voice which you have grown to realize that you hate. Your eyes flash to the clock on the oven realizing that almost two hours have passed by. You smile “Oh how generous of you Woo.” you say while rolling your eyes. First it was San who was getting flowers. Now it’s coming back from picking up dinner? “Well love, I will see you in 30 minutes.” you quickly hang up. Looking at the glass on the floor...you wickedly smile again. Waltzing over to grab the broom you start cleaning with the biggest smile plastered on your face. This was it you thought, your armor has finally cracked, your mental state is now in shambles, you’ve officially lost your mind you think while a smile continues to break across your face. You spin the broom around like it is a person while silently laughing. Catching another glimpse of yourself in the oven door. You realize you have to clean up your face, quickly you rush off to the bathroom and fix your makeup, reapply your perfume, while taking a long swig from the tequila bottle, and brush your teeth to get rid of the liquor smell that was heavy on your breath. Just as you were making your way to the kitchen while adjusting your shirt.

You hear Woo pull into the driveway. Putting up the tequila and grabbing your mixing bowl and whisk which you had neglected for hours. You make your way to the front door, flicking on your front porch light to greet Woo. Opening the door slowly with a huge smile on his face “Hello baby!” He greets you with open arms, bags of take out in one hand and his bag in the other. You forcefully smile “Welcome home my love.” you place down the mixing bowl full of cupcake batter, slowly lifting your arms to put around his neck. While leaning in you notice the slight foundation smudge on his collar, rolling your eyes you hug him back. “I’ve had the longest day!” Woo says while placing his bag down and carrying the takeout to the kitchen. Hearing his voice get smaller and smaller as he walks away. You walk up to the front door, looking across the street, locking eyes with Yunho who is sitting in his car. You give him a thumbs up. He throws his head back on his headrest and lets out a chuckle, eyes dragging back over to you slowly. 

The eye contact between the two of you darkens and you both let a wicked smile grow on each other's faces, smiles so big it resembles the Cheshire cat. “Honey, are you coming?” Wooyoung says while walking towards you, he puts his hands on your waist. You throw him a simple and breathless yes, while smiling and staring at where Yunho was parked. Wooyoung looks down and notices your big bright smile. 'What's got you smiling so big baby?’ he questions while internally you want to vomit. “I’m just happy is all.” You say while letting out a soft sigh, dropping the smile you were giving Yunho and settling for a more subtle smile. “Come on, let's go eat.” He says with a small tug to your waist retreating to the kitchen again. You step back in the house, before flicking off your porch light. Yunho starts his car, before he drives off he throws a wink your way. Flicking off the porch light..you can still make out his eyes in the darkness that are staring straight at you. He starts to pull off, while he’s driving off down the street you hear his menacing laugh in your ears echoing down the dark street, resembling the laugh you were letting out earlier in your kitchen. You step back in your house silently humming to yourself while walking to the kitchen with a wicked grin on your face.

“You say I'm crazy

I know I'm not the only one.”

I love the thriller vibe of Yunho😭💗! I swear I can see him playing a villain/bad guy in a drama! So what are we thinking, what are our thoughts? Who do you think in Ateez would be the perfect villain/bad guy in a drama?

Roger the Alien (Platonic & Romantic Headcanons)

WARNING: substance abuse, death, references to domestic violence, blood, psychological manipulation, toxic mindset.

A.N. - Spun a wheel for which character and it landed on this hooligan.

PLATONIC:

When anybody is hot on his trail and he needs a place to lay low for a while, Roger's first thought is of his friend. He barges into their home unannounced and, when asked, reveals he had a skeleton key made so that he can visit anytime the urge strikes him.

Trash goes missing, clothes vanish and then reappear on Roger the next day, and muddy footprints are tracked throughout the house. Roger is super casual about breaking into his friend's home and staying there until he either eats all the food, is kicked out, or the Smiths come to collect him.

Whenever Stan's SUV is parked outside and Stan is demanding that Roger gets in the car to come back to where he belongs, Roger throws a fit. He hurls plates and insults at Stan and declares that he is living with his friend now.

Stan eventually gives up on reasoning with him and tells Roger's friend that they can have him, at which point Roger rejoices and claims that he is never moving out.

Having a roommate before him or taking one after him is an easy way to have a murder happen under the roof. Roger views every moment between his friend and himself as private and is not willing to share this privacy with anyone, so he trash-talks every other living thing in the house until this is no longer enough.

As he operates under the protection of the CIA, Roger has legal immunity. Nothing is stopping him from hijacking a car and barrelling into the entrance to his friend's home, drunk on tequila and high on half a dozen drugs. Roger offers to drop acid together just before he pukes on the floor.

When tensions are running high, Roger disguises himself and disappears into whichever persona is necessary to placate his friend. He pretends to be someone else and tries to assimilate himself into their life under a different identity, not dropping the disguise no matter how obvious it is.

Roger hosts parties at his friend's home without permission and then acts like they are the party pooper for not playing along. After his sixth drink in ten minutes, Roger drunkenly tells his friend that they are his favourite person and proceeds to curse at anyone who comes to talk to them.

ROMANTIC:

His sense of boundaries and personal space is nonexistent. Be affectionate with Roger, and he will escalate it to epic proportions. Say something nice to him, and he will tear up before whacking the person next to him for looking at his partner too long.

Roger handles rejection with the grace of a broken-legged dancer. He is of the mind that his affection for his partner justifies his every action, so to see it be tramped on sends him flying into a violent rage. While the rage is short-lived, it does not end without someone on the ground bleeding.

Roger then reverts to a calm state and uses gift-giving as a means of winning back trust, presenting a rare item that was once mentioned in passing.

He has no qualms about stealing and cheating to get his partner something they want. Other people are thrown into the arms of criminals to cut a deal, shops are held up in late-night robberies, and the bodies of witnesses turn up floating down the Langley Falls river.

Even wanting something as simple as a bag of chips can lead to someone needing a hospital. Maybe the pantry is empty that day, and Roger decides not to pay for the chips when he visits the mart. One broken nose of a cashier later, and Roger walks into the house slathered in blood with no remorse.

From the mutilation of perceived obstacles to the theft of body parts that his partner has envied, Roger sees himself as a connoisseur of passion.

He devotes every waking moment to spending time with his partner, regardless of whether they are aware of his presence or not. Hidden cameras that he scattered throughout the house are a big help in this pursuit.

When confronted with his bad deeds, Roger either says that the person deserved that harsh fate or blames it on his need to expel bile from his system. He refuses to take responsibility for the consequences of his actions and believes that the lives of anyone besides himself and his partner are inconsequential.

Roger has trouble being genuinely mean to his partner. When he is around them, he tends to be hyper and playful in a way that is both obnoxious and unrelenting. He slaps others for letting out rude words about his partner while simultaneously arguing that his feelings are not as strong as they appear.
