ohhh the change from the game. that joel doesn't find her. that joel doesn't pull her off david whilst she's still attacking him. that she's actually allowed to fully release all her rage and her fear and rightfully brutalise this man who violated her and only after she escapes using her own wits and strength does joel find her..... THAT'S giving ellie agency baby!!!!

#it also adds to the running theme of joel failing to save her. like he found her but she had to escape by herself #joel is not nearly as all powerful in the show and thats really important #hes a protector he loves ellie but hes not always going to be there for her as much as hed want to #hes weaker than he wishes he was. and ellie is stronger than he realises #she can take care of herself. but joel finding her immediately afterwards tells her she doesnt have to. not always #sometimes hes going to be too late but he will get there eventually. shes not entirely alone #it works on so many levels. #the last of us #tlou spoilers #tlou

I FEEL SO STRONGLY ABOUT THE CHAMBER'S REACTION TO KEL OK

kel is the lump, a stone, the calm surface of a lake- but ONLY on the outside- ONLY to make dealing with people work better

the chamber hammers your weak spots trying to make you BREAK, but KEL, WENT TO THE CHAMBER, AGAIN AND AGAIN, she GREW AROUND it like a TREE

the day came when the chamber had it's chance- to strike her as HARD AS IT COULD

and

there was almost nothing left for it to even aim at

because kel had stuck HERSELF already, had BEEN hammering herself this whole time- had been TESTING herself every step of the way QUESTIONING HERSELF AND asking herself how she could be and do better next time

for the sake of those who need someone when no one sees them as people. for the sake of unwanted animals and overlooked humans- kel became her own ordeal

the chamber couldn't break Kel. SHE broke IT

so it had nothing to do, except make her an ordeal in the real world-

the nothing man, child killer, the promise she will stare evil in the face somewhere somehow, that tantalizing and USELESS knowledge burning her as she is given charge of convicts and refugees and not enough soldiers to defend them and her old desire to be like the Lioness, her inspiration, to go out there and STOP THIS SUFFERING FROM HAPPENNG HERSELF

the chamber jammed this thorn into her heart and THEN it chose to Watch Her out there

as she.... chose people. Again. chose care over glory. everyday duty over heroics. obscurity to wider world- but a friend to a small corner of the world that desperately needed someone to see them, fight for them, and not ever look away... or abandon them

the chamber saw that. it NAMED HER- didn't chose her- didn't make her- gave no gift other than pain to her

henry telling joel the story of how he informed fedra about the leader of the resistance so he could get the medicine he needed to save sam, and seeing joel's entire face and demeanour change as he starts to understand who henry is and how similar they both are. joel initially not trusting henry because he's a rat, but once the full context is given to him, he tells henry it's not fair on him for so many people to want him dead for what he did. joel not questioning why henry would betray so many people for his brother, because he knows he would do exactly the same thing in his place. henry DIRECTLY making joel ask himself the question "what is more important: the world, or the one person you love? your honour, or your family? when it comes down to it, how many people will you hurt to make sure she's safe?", and you can just see that joel immediately knows the answer.

#if bill was there to make joel realise his purpose as a protector #henry is there to make joel painfully aware of the lengths he must go to to fulfil that duty #and only AFTER this conversation may i add does joel start trusting henry unquestioningly #because he knows who henry is now. he knows theyre exactly the same #and no matter what he can rely on him to keep these kids safe. theyll both do whatever it takes #god help ANY motherfuckers who stand in our way #< the way THAT has become one of the thesis statements of the show btw. thank you bill #anyways i think this episode was a bit anticlimactic in terms of dramatic stakes #but the narrative throughline. joels character development. ellies friendship with sam #it all balances out #if nothing else this show is fucking NAILING the character beats #tlou #the last of us #tlou spoilers #meta tag

Protective Aziraphale

The parallels in the Before the Beginning episode and the final part of the last episode are so sad to me.

When they were both angels, Aziraphale tried to warn Crowley against questioning god’s plan, getting very nervous and using his hands when not knowing what to say/how to prevent Crowley from saying something potentially dangerous.

We see this:

In the final episode, when Aziraphale returns to the bookshop after his conversation with the Metatron, he encounters a Crowley who wants to say something, and Aziraphale is afraid, knowing that the Metatron is watching. Again, we see a very anxious Aziraphale using his hands nervously when speaking.

This does not seem like a genuinely happy expression:

He keeps trying to protect Crowley, even when Crowley doesn’t realize it. When Crowley doesn’t even know he needs protection.
