The people in italics are ones I had to shift to a zodiac other than their actual one because there wasn’t an even spread. All the duos are like duo fusions? Except for Gemini, because that’s literally the twins.

The general idea is that they’re all kind of celestial deities who take it in turns to rule from the Celestial Citadel. Technically they should have about a month of time each, but if their successor arrives early they can ceremonially fight them to have more time in charge.

Although the outbound broadcast was as clear as any other world, the inbound static intermission of a small radio only ever meant one thing, and Etho never had guessed wrong before - or if he had, those versions of him hadn’t survived, and technically his perfect record was intact. If anything proved continuity among his selves, it was that internal consistency mattered more than being perceived as consistent by other people; without an audience, he wouldn’t have existed, but it wasn’t for them alone that he kept going. In fact, he had refrained from modded worlds for so long, in spite of audience questions which he had responded directly to from time to time. The fear, freely shared, was that his own interest might grow too much, that the same rule of integrity against cheating being given a foothold might instead grow bored of anything with a higher level of baseline speed and convenience. None of this, of course, helped at all with the bears.

going back to my roots (posting excerpts of my WIP in the futile hopes it'll give me momentum). that second paragraph is getting redone heavily but i'm Writing

🌈 Share something soft/fluffy from your WIP. I'm not sure if I'll ever finish this one, but I have a hermitcraft wip where Etho and Rusty from Decked Out 2 are besties and Etho makes good on his promise of breaking Rusty out! Here's a little sneaky peek:

“Hey buddy,” Etho greeted. “How ya been, Rusty?” Rusty creaked as his limbs moved. Etho nodded. He reached into his inventory for a repair kit and something he’d seen sticking out of the damp cave wall on his way over. It was technically contraband, but Etho wasn’t too worried. He passed over the small dandelion, allowing Rusty to slowly reach out and pluck it from his hand. It had caught Etho’s eye with its glorious color and resilience in the unforgiving environment of the dungeon. “Let’s get you all fixed up, shall we?” Etho said.

🌩️ Share something funny/cracky from your WIP. Okay, this one is from a good ol' lord of the rings road trip fic! I love a road trip fic. The funny bit is that everyone is trying to fit people into their various vehicles, and Boromir spends ten minutes antagonizing his brother because he's strapped their snack cooler into the passenger's seat of his pickup truck and doesn't want to let anyone ride with him.

Boromir: "Sorry, I've got no space."

Faramir: "It's a pickup? Put it in the back?"

🌈is there a fic that you worked *really fucking hard on* that no one would ever know? maybe a scene/theme you struggled with?

this one applies to both polaroids and the taken fic but like. for the taken one specifically I am so disappointed bc. I only did the chapter for ren and I really wanted to add the grian chapter but I just couldn't bring myself to do it and there's an entire scene where I use my knowledge abt 19th century clockworks and also what I've been told abt menory illnesses and just 19th century knowledge but I cannot bring myself to work on it no matter what. I also remember planning the etho chapter because I had Ideas for that. for polaroids I had like. a sort of corkboard in my mind abt just what to do and I wanna rewrite it and then ALSO This Place Is Not A Place Of Honor and I have like. one chapter written and a few illustrations already when I just. gave up

💞what's the most important part of the story for you? the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, the technical stuff (grammer etc), the figurative language

OKAY SO when reading, it is always to me character and/or grammar. I've clicked off so many fics i thought would be interesting bc the characters were just Wrong. I can excuse grammar sometimes and if I can tell a fic will just have shit grammar I might click on it out of morbid curiosity (ahem that one time I liveblogged a fic in class) but I've built up enough resilience against subpar grammar to be. fine with it as a reader

as a writer, what I said above but also the figurative language because there's something about using a metaphor that hits just right for that specific character in that specific moment that feels so satisfying. when writing characters you don't want them to feel Off in a way that would make a reader unsatisfied and its okay to have a few grammar errors in fic (especially common ones, fic is free and beta readers are hard to come by) but just. be careful

💌share something about an up-and-coming work (WIP) that has you excited

OKAY so I actually have plans for some star rail fics but they're not fully realized yet and they're going to be infinitely more planned than what I have planned as fics for poor alhaitham but for now I wanna do clara & svarog fics where its just slice of life (and then a fic of when clara is grown up bc I write angst for a reason. robodad and his human child give me so much joy I love them So Much), a luocha and welt fic, a welt and void archives fic (copius amounts of Gay. old men yaoi. I have to finish apho 2 before this one because I still haven't done that) and also a fic with kafka (and maybe elio) in it (the heavens knows I'll be able to finish... one of those. maybe two)

anyways here's some snippets from wips wherein I hurt alhaitham the one on the left like. half-scrapped but only half-scrapped cause I still wanna work on it. it'll just take A While to do so

(I actually really like the writing style I chose for the one on the left cause its like. dottore's thought process and inner mind and. actually I want to show more I love how I wrote the first part so much and technically I can call it done but it would be injustice to the hurt part of hurt/comfort if I just stopped there)

I need to write in this style mor. it works best when the character is acting-to the beat of my vocabulary-Out There and Wild but a "softer" scene has been laid out by past me and I think I can utilize the way I write him to turn him into a threat even if 3rd person limited only limits us to outsider reactions of his character

actually just. about this fic in general is that I plan for it to have 3 really long chapters with the third being the longest (because thats where all the comfort will take place) and the first two are gonna be strictly in third person limited while the third one will also probs be 3pl except I change which character that perspective belongs to but I'm gonna try to limit myself to as few pov shifts as possible

oh god its 130am here. I like to ramble don't I. If I feel it I might ramble in the morning

💗Is there a scene you can’t wait to write for a WIP?

So technically this WIP is *barely* a WIP right now (as in hardly written past outline plans) but regardless, i will talk about it!

I am very eager to get back to writing for The Killing Type, once i finish this LL fic. Took some time off from it, but i have already planned out the next chapter which will go back in time to the Trial, the very beginning of where their relationship started but was.... less nice. they were less friends in that and more like colleagues.

The scene I really want to write is where Bdubs is trying to bribe Etho *one* last time before the trial. literally before it starts in like a few hours. so its after all the killing happened that led up to the trial. but bdubs being the cocky guy he is makes this a silly back and forth that brings out less seriousness, despite etho threatening him very clearly.

i want it to define how the scenario is serious... and bdubs is afraid etho will kill him as they havent establish the bond they have later, but also the silliness of the whole trial and bdubs' attitude towards everything. there probably wont be any actual killing in this chapter (sorry folk. four chapters in a row with no murder i SWEAR i will change that).

The Hermit Archives / HC Fic Series [Grian-centric.. ish...?] / Thoughts

So. The Hermit Archives. Where do I even start?

Well first off- I finally read it- I binged it all today actually? And like. so. I've never actually seen The Magnus Archives, which I'm pretty sure is what THA is based off of, but like HOLY FUCK- I think I have a new fixation, which is a bad thing, and I've already had multiple fixations TODAY-

Like Chrisrin who does a few of the book covers for some of em on Twitter had this post pinned with I think THA Scar but hanging upside down as the tarot card 'The Hanged Man' or something and then my brain was like 'what if I wrote a collection of oneshots either connected or not connected that have to do with tarot cards and their meanings and i could pull random ones to decide'

and then now i wanna do the fuckin audio recorder format where its like

WHY- i have so many other WIPs I really need to get done that I've been procrastinating for like over a month now D:

My point is though- The Hermit Archives is distracting as fuck and the storyline is just 'HOLY FUCK' and for a series that technically doesn't usually go straight after each other and are instead from different times as well as the statements we 'hear' of, you just get stuck in this story, and it all feels like it connects, like one after the other and the stories are just so interesting, and each statement is like its own little story even though its in like first person stuff which I kind of grew a dislike for eventually, but I just don't mind it in statements??

okay Grian has main character energy probably- I think he's most likely the only one who has 'encountered'.. twice, third..-ish..??? Actually i think Mumbo did twice though because the potato incident and the evil moon rock- everyone else, i dunno

BUT. So. Grian has Red Light Green Light where he.. Honestly I wanna say it was similar to third life with desert duo? I think we were all thinking that, except Grian has murderous urges and then continues to have those urges and HOLY FUCK- YES.

Then we have during the moon rock incident.. THE EYES??? we never got an explanation for the eyes- the fuck?

THIRD- we have Cleo's... feathering

WAIT NO FOURTH BECAUSE HE WENT TO TANGOS LIBRARY AND LIKe... fell. and saw pearl. that counts, right? holy fuck man

Also do we even wanna get started on what happened to Etho? He went blind, eyes gone- I wanna say it might've been.. Evil Xisuma....? I can't tell whos who because I'm a dumb fuck, but so basically- EX was like.. carving out peoples eyes and replacing those eyes with his to have total control of their body and live on forever basically, but what happened to Etho? But with Xisuma, EX took out on eye and replaced one, so logically Etho should have two by now, but like..

I mean we will never know will we? But would they really dangle mysteries in front of us if they won't give us an answer?

BUT to what I said, EX probably wouldn't though because he was choosing his family members as his 'successors', and as far as I'm aware, Etho and Xisuma aren't related.

But so- out of all of this- I think that one title that I can never remember how to spell with the study of birds, where Grian went to Cleo to make a deal that he'd stay there for 3 days as like a statue thingy and she would get Joe for a meet up (except not really- but what can she do?)

uhm. so. i wonder- i mean so in the alternate hermit archives, cleo chopped off grians arms and legs and replaced them with wings and bird legs

do you think that wouldve happened if cleo had been more prepared?

huh..

BUT Grian was kidnapped there for like 6 months he said in that alternate. but I'd think that Cleo could finish before that time, not to mention Grian said that he'd been in Cleo's closet with a cloth over his head in case someone would look in ? Cleo didn't even let him out, the statue magic just like.. wore off..??

honestly confusing as fuck but honestly really interesting. EVERYONES INTERESTING- except i dont think we've seen enough with mumbo? We've gotten a lot of pearl and her dreams, a bit of Scar with his death curse thingy, Grian- because hes head archivist, and then we just hear Mumbo about becoming like a vegetable potato thingy and etc-? I think it was Slumber Party or something when the evil moon rock happened, but Mumbo wasn't even the main focus, he just like started it and then everyone else went and encountered the fuckin monster

I was researching for my wip, and your commentary of SJM just picking and choosing what she wants from random cultures/religions to seem ~aesthetic~ and how she doesn't seem to do enough research on the bits she uses (i agree), made me wonder how much research is /too/ much shoved into a book (aka just info-dumping), and what are some good examples of cultural/religious appreciation in books??

I don’t know, stuff like this is very subjective. For me, an immediate example of a book series that does too much with its research is ASOIAF. People laud Martin for his worldbuilding skills and his historical accuracy, but I feel like the ~historical accuracy~ (which isn’t as accurate as dudebros would have you believe, especially when it comes to misogyny and racism) significantly adds to the dullness of the series. I don’t want to know that 147 or whatever vassals are beholden to the North, or how the trebuchets exactly align with each other, or how people in the olden days used to say “nuncle” and “must needs.” On the other hand, that kind of detail is exactly what a huge portion of the fanbase loves about the series. All I care about, personally, is if the Starks are ever ever ever getting back together.

A big factor of book research also depends on what you want to do with the story. For ASOIAF, it makes sense that there’s so much detail about geopolitics and warfare technicalities because the books are about war and its consequences. But one of my friends from college is an environmental science major, so the bulk of her research and worldbuilding lies in environmental factors and how they affect people and magic. I focus on oppression and personal/political stuff because my background is in women’s and gender studies. Etc. So I guess that’s a long-winded way of saying to write to your interests and your strengths. That being said, I do think there’s a baseline you want to hit with all the major tenets of your worldbuilding (for example, culture, religion, magic, architecture, geography, weather, etc), and you kind of figure out that baseline the more you read fantasy and follow other writers’ examples. Also, because you’re worldbuilding, you can make your own rules as long as they’re internally logical.

To use SJ/M as a bad example, AC0MAF and WAR rely on politicking and manipulation, but the politicians in question make no sense. Rice had to “pretend” to be a terrible person to save V/elaris but he also needed allies to save V/elaris. Why would he pretend to be someone else when he’s clearly such a “good” guy and it would behoove him to be kind to Tarquin, the queens, and the CoN? Meanwhile in The Hunger Games, a huge part of the series is also using charisma and appealing to the audience. Collins has a very clear understanding of pathos, ethos, and logos, and thus so do her characters. So in general my advice is to do the bulk of your research on the topic that will be most plot/thematically relevant. If you’re uncomfy writing about xyz identity or religion or whatever may have you, you’re probably not ready to write it yet and you should do more research. Sensitivity readers can definitely help you figure that stuff out in more depth, case by case!

Writerblr Intro?

Hey everyone, I’m not a super active writerblr but I do want to become more active. I’ve written for as long as I can remember and I don’t want to give that up now. @abalonetea has been insisting I get more involved in the writerblr community, because a lot of times I only share my stuff with her - so I guess here it goes. (Reblog so I can follow you??) 1. I do love and am always open to brainstorming and helping develop and offer ideas for plots and characters. Abalonetea comes to me a lot for help with that kinda stuff, so maybe I’m good at it? (Of course I go to her too, she’s amazing). 2. I technically have a couple of current WIP projects, (and one isn’t even a story its a game world and story I’m writing for DOS2 campaign) but I have really really old WIPs that I want to start back up and churn out because I love them and never really forgot about them one even has a book cover and 50k word crappy manuscript. But they definitely need tons of work because they’re old and from when I was less.. just less. xD A little bit about my projects: ( a lot actually)

Rising Tides

It’s actually a really convoluted, weird story about 2 assassins- I’m getting ahead of myself.

It’s set in the not too far future around 2050s and humans have pushed their limits for decades and it has resulted in abilities of sorts. People who can run super fast, or lift more than we thought possible. Bio-luminescence has even come about (did you know humans are naturally faintly bio-luminescent?) and a bunch of cool other things. No one can like throw fireballs (yet) but they could in theory create sparks or tiny flames.

But also,the world is falling apart? We’ve pushed our environmental limits for too long and the earth is literally fighting back- hurricanes, tsunamis, natural disasters galore, and diseases. Temperatures in the extremes, etc.

Vegetarianism is the norm because its too taxing on the environment and there are too many people in the world to think about farming enough cattle for such a population?

Also those who are very spiritual have realized they’re stronger than before? The energy that flows through the earth has been granted to some individuals in hopes they will stand up and defend the planet.

There are also dwarves that live underground; Elves that have clipped their ears to hide their identity and druids.

Political stressors are rising and contract killing has become the norm ? So popular in fact that contract killing companies have taken up endeavors of kidnapping children to raise them as killers. That’s where our assassin MCs come in.

SO! That’s too much info about one story.

My second WIP is actually for Ethos the game adventure I’m modding.

It’s just something I’ll explain later I guess.. But it’s kinda cool. It has elves, dwarves, humans, lizards and undead. The undead are revered for their knowledge. Technically there is no MC because the player would get to fulfill that role (maybe I may change this up) but the main person I develop is a summoner who is the antagonist who doesn’t have a name (I think)~

Then my two old WIP I want to revive:

Dementors (with cover art)

A half shapeshifter half demon has to blend in with the shapeshifting community because he father (the leader of the demons) thinks its too dangerous for her to run with them. There’s also a crappy prophecy. The demons are actually not an evil species, but they are hunted for the magical properties of their horns. u.u They’re just misunderstood since they look evil, and intimidating. Some demon factions are actually evil though.

Either way, demons are going extinct because of the hunt. They are also typically, publicly executed when caught and/or mutilated for their horns. Though few demons live without their horns.

Elves have a couple of elemental abilities. Humans have super advanced technology in a futile attempt to stay on par with those who have powers.Nymphs exist as creatures that have powers that center on nature and growth, the seasons, water or earth elements. Seers are rare race that typically run with the demons for protection but also to help keep the species alive since their downfall could lead to all kinds of chaos in the world.

Dementors are the evil race in the story (not like HP? At least not the apperance of?). they are essentially an evil embodiment on magic. Anyone can turn into a dementor by drinking the black blood of one, or eating it’s flesh. The person then appears hallowed out leaving a husk but their abilities are strengthened and they can acquire new ones based on their old race.

Dementors is set in the world of Consreane where I created a conlang, and I uh, wanted to write short stories based on the world I had created. ;-; Demons are actually called “Lekúru” which is the consi word for demon. u.u

Villain Academy

obviously, an academy dedicated to creating villains.

The Academy is called Mori Arts Academy ( wink wink ). The whole world is kept in balance by people called the Overseers, Two reign the natural world, and the other two are split between good and evil. The overseers take care of a fragile balance and seek to maintain it regardless of consequences - because if it falls out of plan then chaos and destruction will ensue.

Soul Energy

Every person’s soul energy is monitored and if it is good they are recruited to be heroes, and bad to be villains, and everyone else is just the average joe.Those who are admitted due to an exuberant level of evil soul energy are the ones who are inherently evil. All inherently evils are accepted before those of threshold level are sent their invitation.

Anomalies During shortages of evil; If a person is not as outwardly evil (but meets the minimal evil threshold on soul energy) and they are unwilling to complete the villain academy they can be possessed, cursed, etc to be inherently evil and fulfill the balance needs.

Some are Rejected: the rejected are a set of people who fulfill the requirements for admission into the academy but the balance of the world is not ready for them
