Do you like Kakashi's dogs? Let's talk about why there are eight of them.
another example of naruto's ✨cultural code✨

Naruto Vol. 10 CH 90
[ one dog is wonderful, I'm saying as the owner of a sweet little york terrier. two dogs are good, they won't be bored together. three dogs? yeah, cool! how are you going to walk them though? four? yes... look, maybe we have to draw the line h- wha- EIGHT? Excuse Me!? ]
surely, it's worth starting with the fact that eight is a lucky number in Japanese culture — everybody watched Hachi. of course, this is not the only cultural detail where the eight is mentioned. I want to pay special attention to a thing that I didn't know about until I googled it, and this is clearly what Kishimoto was doing homage to with Kakashi's eight ninken.
The Eight Dog Warriors Chronicles
Better known as Nansō Satomi Hakkenden. and it's not just some kind of book, it's a novel, consisting of 106 booklets written by Kyokutei Bakin in XIX century. Hakkenden is considered the largest novel in the history of Japanese Literature. this is one of the main representatives of the gesaku genre, which includes works of a frivolous, joking, silly nature. further I will emphasize a few more times how damn popular this work is and how often it is reflected in culture.

here are some illustrations for these books
now let's talk about the plot. It's weird, but it's weird at samurai-dogs-story level so stay here.
In brief, the story tells about the commander Satomi Yoshizane, whose native lands were attacked by the army of a man, whose forces surpassed those of Satomi, and the samurai in despair swore to a dog named Yatsufusa that the dog would get his beloved daughter Fuse as a wife if he chewed that man's throat. surprisingly, the dog not only understood the owner, but also fulfilled his wish! after that the commander refused to keep the promise. however, Fuse, true to her word of honor, went with Yatsufusa to the mountains and became his wife. upon learning that his daughter was pregnant, Satomi, in a rage, sent a samurai to kill Yatsufusa and bring Fuse home. she stood up for the dog anyways and died with him. at that moment, eight pearls with hieroglyphs that denoted the foundations of Confucian virtue burst out of her womb. (...cheers for mythology, I guess)
Soon, eight dog warriors who were Fuse's spiritual children were born in different parts of Awa province. after going through hardships, they got together and became vassals of the Satomi clan, then won the battle, and soon reached peace.

some more illustrations made by Utagawa Kuniyoshi. from left to right: Inukawa Sōsuke (the dog warrior), Inumura Daikaku (the dog warrior), Princess Fuse (their mother).
the novel mainly tells about each individual warrior dog and his shenanigans in a funny adventurous way. huge fame has led to excerpts from Hakkenden being staged at the Kabuki Theater and mentioned in the anime and manga, such as Inuyasha, Dragon Ball, as it turned out, Naruto and so on. there's also a lot of films and video games.
The eight virtues
these are loyalty, filial piety, benevolence, love, honesty, justice, harmony, and peace.
they relate more to Chinese culture, but basically Hakkenden was inspired by it too. since I did not read the whole novel, I would still like to mention at least the values on which it is based, and which were embedded in the symbolism of this story. It's quite interesting to apply this to Kakashi's dogs. gives them more weight and depth.
It is also interesting to note that the reason why Fuse gave birth to dogs was also that her father was cursed earlier in the story in a way that his descendants would become depraved like dogs. in Japanese culture, dogs embody the duality of character: the same mentioned filth and depravity, and devotion and bravery. so as samurai. but this is a different conversation, more related to Kakashi and his dog poetry.

Did you get here? Here's an additional discovery for you✨
Pakkun's name (パックン) is derived from the Japanese onomatopoeia “pakupaku” (パクパク) which reflects the sound of munching.
Kakashi, that's very sweet of you.

thank you for reading this to the end ♡

i did it for winx i did it for powerpuff girls anyway here’s my pitch for a good “modern” scooby doo remake
shaggy comes from a family of paranormal investigators. at barely 16 years olds he returns to his hometown of coolsville with his dog after his super rich parents tell him it’s time to live up to the family name, taking him there specifically because of many rumors about cursed areas of the town and crmiinals who take advantage of said rumors to pretend to be monsters themselves. while there he reconnects with his old childhood friends and eventually all together they form the mystery inc... and have to deal with a benevolent yet very clumsy spirit who took over scoob’s body
character thoughts under read more!!!
shaggy is, again, the last of a family of paranormal investigators, who ever since he was a child had to deal with his parents bringing him in adventures and dealing with (real and fake) monsters. you’d guess that would make him brave, but. no that just made him very paranoid. while he acts like the team’s straightman, he’s also the only one who knows how certain monsters work, ironically working as one of the “brains” of the group!
scooby, again, used to be a normal great dane. a little lazy, not even particularly friendly, at least until shaggy brought him with him in coolsville; during their first night out. while he ends up falling into a trap, a benevolent ghost takes over his body, making him able to talk and tell the kids that coolsville is in big trouble and that they need to stick together. overall, he’s the team’s mascot, someone who’s directly connected with the main antagonist similarly to the mystery inc series, but also a goofy spirit (and now dog) who’s appreciating life!!
velma is a seemingly distant and cold nerd, but also the first one who joins shaggy in his adventures after she learns that all the curses and mysteries of her town might be real. her knowledge and ability to think on the fly comes from her being a dnd player and, most importantly, a dungeon master, and out of everyone she’s by far the bravest member of the team.  while a little snarky and with a lot of problems with social cues, she’s a smart and quick thinking young lady who’s happy to be part of a real adventure. and also has a girlfriend who may or may not be yet another monster since her being into criminals and monstergirls is a recurring trend now
daphne is part of the popular girls in school, but since we hate stereotypes she also has a reason to be popular other than “she’s pretty XD”. tiktok influencer and vlogger, she joins shaggy and velma almost by accident uhhhh i’d say 3 or 4 episodes into the series, maybe trying to start off a paranormal youtube channel, and eventually gets very close to them. the assigned people person, she knows everything about everyone in town and is generally very charismatic, but make her angry and she’ll make sure that you will remember with who you’re messing with.
fred, daphne’s boyfriend, is a member of the football’s team and the mayor’s son... and for “half” of the first season, he unknowingly acts as a minor antagonist, since i’d say. down with the politicians, the mayor is one of the bad guys, and with fred being a total himbo he accidentally works as his spy. eventually he finally understands that something is up with his dad, especially thanks to daphne who reminds him who truly cares for him, and eventually shaggy and velma too, with who he shares good memories of pretending to be detectives together and watching “that one weird show with the talking dogs and the kids looking for ghosts... goober or something!” he finally becomes the team’s wild card, the brawn and. yea i’d bring back his love for traps and elaborate schemes. he and velma become super besties after she tells him about her latest dungeon in her session

Wendingways' Star Wars fic recs
The vast majority of these are fix-its. Some are time travel/time loop. Most revolve around PT, TCW, and OT characters. A lot are also gen, as it turns out.
The order of the list has nothing to do with how much I enjoyed each fic, because I've enjoyed them all in different ways, for different reasons! Fics that seem to be really popular have been placed toward the bottom of each section, because I'm guessing they already appear on a lot of other rec lists. Aside from that, the order is pretty much random.
*Chapter and word counts may not be up to date. I try to go through once in a while to update the details for WIPS, but it's a lot to keep track of!
Complete multichapter fics
Finding Obi-Wan; T, 86.9k. Obi-Wan, having disappeared from the Jedi Temple, wakes up with no idea who he is or what the Force is and gets pulled into all manner of messes (yes, Hondo gets involved, of course he does), while Anakin refuses to believe he's dead and struggles to find him.
Blood and Copper Oxide; T, 36.3k. "Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader crash land on a planet that shouldn't have existed. Luke can't escape Vader and survive the planet at the same time. Darth Vader can't capture Luke and fight off the innumerable threats the planet sends his way. They might have to work together instead." Very cool story!
The Skywalker Secret; T, 39.8k. Anakin time travels back to the Clone Wars following Endor. The story is told mostly through the eyes of perplexed observers, and has an excellent ending; it's very satisfying and lovely!
Lunches at Anakin's; T, 93.1k. After Endor, thanks to the Force's meddling, Anakin finds himself alive but stuck on Tatooine, where he ends up reluctantly mentoring a Force-sensitive girl. (Technically complete, but part of a series which is not complete.)
(Tooka)Cat Scratch Fever; not rated, 17.7k. Luke adopts a tooka which turns out to be his father, under a curse by Sidious. (I would probably rate this one as T.)
In the Tall Grass; T, 18.5k. "After a failed order 66, in which many Jedi still died but the Sith were defeated, an exiled warrior and a boy wander a distant planet and attempt to get along." This one is so cool, it has such a fairytale feel to it! And there's a sequel!
Shadows of the Future; K+, 129.3k. Obi-Wan dies on Mustafar and is sent back to TPM, where he bonds with Anakin and begins to change the future for the better.
Gut Feeling; T, 7.5k. Amusing little multichapter wherein Piett is assigned a new aide who goes by the name of Lucas Starkiller (who is clearly not Luke Skywalker, definitely not), and from there becomes embroiled in treason.
May Death Find You Alive; T, 11.0k. Anakin gets stuck in a time loop where Obi-Wan keeps dying.
Empire Reimagined; series, T, 341.7k. A saga of Luke, Vader/Anakin, Piett, Veers, and Leia covering from ESB-era to post-ROTJ. Epic friendships abound! (Series not marked complete, but the last completed fic doesn't leave you hanging.)
Mirjahaal; T, 132.8k. Another lovely Wishful fic in the spirit of Empire Reimagined, involving favorite characters and somebody else who's a surprise!
The Exiled; T, 20.1k. "Leia has tried everything to help her baby son. She has turned to every expert on the Force she knows-- all but one. (Ben and Grandpa go camping)" (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
Cloudy Symbols of High Romance; G, 22.1k. This one's a bit of a relict! Posted pre-AOTC, way back in 2001, it's a cool take on how Anakin and Padmé's AOTC-era reunion happened, and omg, it's so much better than AOTC. It's actually cute, and you can see why they like each other, and man does it make the knowledge of what's coming so much the worse.
Kintsugi; T, 16.7k. Quietly tragic, even though nobody dies and it's broadly a fix-it. Not a comfy fic, but one which is well done.
What Lurks in the Dark; T, 155.4k. "A simple mission to check out an abandoned weapons factory turns into a dangerous fight for survival. Trust is broken, loyalties will be tested, and dark secrets are brought to light. Because sooner or later, the truth always comes out."
The Beauty in the Beast; T, 46.1k. "When the Force decides it's had enough of Darth Vader and wants Anakin Skywalker back, it dumps his long-lost teenage son on his doorstep with an ultimatum: unless Vader renounces the Sith and turns back to the Light within three months, Luke will die."
Sibling Revelry; T, 24.9k. "After Bespin and before Endor, Darth Vader is shocked to discover that Luke and Leia are twins. Especially since Imperial Intelligence just told him that Organa and Skywalker are, erm, a tad closer than previously suspected..." A hilarious comedy of misunderstandings!
The Sith Who Brought Life Day; G, 13.3k. A rather entertaining take on how Vader found out who blew up the Death Star.
This Life of Ours; T, 53.9k. "On the run from the empire and the remaining Jedi alike, Vader must come to terms with his past and his future, all the while learning to care for the boy that is his only connection to his life as Anakin Skywalker." (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
Teach the Padawan. Save the Galaxy.; series, T, 387.4k. 4 books complete, but the series itself is not complete. Ben Kenobi goes back in time and becomes Obi-Wan's master instead of Qui-Gon.
Legacy; G, 175.5k. Post-ROTJ Luke and Leia time travel to the Clone Wars.
there but for the grace of god; T, 49.2k. Young Luke winds up time traveling to the Clone Wars, where he causes both confusion and conversations that will lead to a brighter future for the TCW crew and the galaxy in general.
Precipice; M, 231.7k. "An AU in which Anakin Skywalker does not follow Mace Windu and the others to Palpatine’s office after they leave to arrest the Chancellor. As a result, he doesn’t get that final push over the edge, and doesn’t Fall." Padmé and Anakin each raise a twin and work to bring Palpatine down.
Don't Look Back; M, series, 533.7k. 2 books complete, 1 in progress. Leia gets sent back to AOTC-era, and omg is she a force to be reckoned with! Very detailed, very political series.
Oneshots
Negative Static Stability; G, 8.1k. Vader and Leia meet when Leia is 5; lessons on the workings of ships ensue, along with some good old Artoo scheming. Adorable!
Palpatine's Greatest Hits II: Imperial Boogaloo; T, 1.3k. Just Palpatine being salty. It's very fun! "Fortress Dramaticus" has got to be one of my favorite bits, coupled with Palpatine's ongoing disgust at its lack of shields and certain people's inability to learn certain lessons. And his disgust at Vader's Kenobi obsession. Okay, the whole thing is great. Go read it!
Dust to Dust; T, 4.7k. "Darth Vader goes back in time. The Galaxy is saved; he is not."
Puppet Kings; series, T-M, 18.8k. Really nicely done, dark oneshot trilogy (complete) about Luke, Vader, & Co. I'm not usually one for horror and tragedy, but I read the first fic in the series and didn't want to stop!
Amelioration; T, 8.2k. "A recently liberated Vader attempts to ameliorate the future by changing the past." A different sort of angle, and an interesting fic!
The Horrendous Space Kablooie; T, 6.2k. "9 year old Anakin wakes up on the Executor. Chaos ensues." Well worth reading! Can't say more because I don't want to spoil anything.
The Agony of Tarkin; G, 4.8k. "An extra in the Imperial Opera Company discovers he has been assigned the role of Darth Vader in its upcoming production of The Agony of Tarkin." Another hilarious fic in the vein of The Sith Who Brought Life Day and Accountant Non-Heroes of the Republic.
Accountant Non-Heroes of the Republic; G, 7.0k. "Palpatine makes a choice to hide his fiscal manoeuvres in the Financial Department. The Financial Department takes advantage of this lack of transparency to do whatever they want. This saved the Republic." It's always fun to watch Palpatine shoot himself in the foot, and all the better when it comes completely out of left field.
Out of Step; T, 4.9k. Nice little oneshot with post OT-era Obi-Wan and Anakin stuck into their TPM-era selves.
FIVE HUNDRED AND ONE THING THE MEMBERS OF THE 501ST LEGION OF THE GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO; T, 4.9k. A hilarious list composed by General Kenobi. I laugh myself silly every time I read this. (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
501 MORE THINGS THE 501ST ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO; T, 3.4k. A sequel to the 501st list fic, also very funny, although it only has about 250 entries, not 501. (Visible to registered AO3 users only.) Listed with oneshots because the extant 250 entries can be read as a complete list.
Where Have We Come?; T, 2.0k. "The first time was one of the hardest and the easiest. Obi-Wan loses at Mustafar, but instead of dying he wakes up at the dawn of the last day of the republic, doomed to repeat the worst day of his life, over and over again." Time loop!
you drew stars around my scars (but now i'm bleeding); not rated, 1.1k. Post-Twilight of the Apprentice, Ahsoka and Anakin. I'd rate G or T. (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
still dancing with your ghosts (sleeping with your memories); M, 1.1k. "Everyone knows about the Massacre, and how no Jedi made it out alive. The Jedi refuse to let anyone forget." I do not cry easily at fics. This one made me cry.
The Trick is to Keep Breathing; T, 3.5k. "She's older now, and so is he. Far older now. She wonders: will he have lost any power with his age? Will he be shorter, weaker? An old man on a ventilator? It's hard to imagine that he won't still be dangerous. But then, that's exactly what she's counting on."
Tuning up your TIE-Fighter to prove you’re better than the bastard currently running the TIE-Fighter Program for fun and profit; G, 7.1K. "As a rule, Vader didn't really do anything with his social media account, but then the rant of some kid from Tatooine about the inefficiency of TIE Fighters began trending, the pilots and engineers on the Devastator started fixing their ships and Vader got invested."
Multichapter fics that are incomplete but still appear to be alive as of now
Turning Point; T, 9.8k. After Vader dies on the second Death Star, he's sent back in time to the year 69 BBY, on Naboo, where he picks up an unfortunate barnacle in the person of the teenage Sheev Palpatine. Quite entertaining, and I can't wait to see where it goes!
The Good He Seeks; T, 70.1k. "After killing the Emperor, Darth Vader agreed to serve the fledgling New Republic and destroy the last true-believers of the Empire he had once helped create. But he's living on borrowed time." Though I do enjoy pure fix-its, there's just something that really gets me about fics that are fix-it-ish, but life is messy, the characters are messy, there are no easy answers or perfect solutions, and every positive development really feels earned. So far, this is one of those fics, and I'm loving it!
The Galaxy Revolves at a Million Miles a Day (Around Me); T, 40.7k. After dying on Executor during the battle of Endor, Piett finds himself trapped in a time loop which he must break. I'm a sucker for time loops, and this is such a good one!
The Sleepover to Restore the Republic; T, 56.1k. This many Skywalkers, clones, and associated friends, relatives, and coworkers were never intended to be thrown together, and when they are, boy oh boy. Gloriously chaotic and funny. (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
Nameless, on the Edge of Nowhere; M, 100.7k. Vader survives ROTJ, but both he and Luke made it out of the second Death Star via random hyperspace jumps in separate ships. After getting by for a time, the not-fully-Sith-but-not-fully-redeemed Vader ends up with the Rebellion, where Leia becomes his handler. Slow build, and a really rewarding read thus far! (Also, I love the OCs in this one; they all feel very natural and vivid, and like people in their own right.)
Multichapter fics/series for those okay with living on the edge (inconsistent updates, long hiatus, or abandoned)
Headaches; T, 31.2K. "When Luke overhears his aunt and uncle arguing, he follows old Ben to Daiyu. Skywalker shenanigans ensues." Oh my goodness, the pure child chaos that is in this fic, it's an excellent time. Hasn't updated in almost a year, but what's there is so good!
Balance on the knife edge; T, 136.6k. After dying on Malachor, Ahsoka time travels back to Mortis, during the Clone Wars.
The Thunder Answered Back; M, 13.1k. "Count Dooku survives his duel with Anakin Skywalker only to wake up as a captive in the Jedi Temple on the evening of Order 66 and the siege. Betrayed, maimed, and surrounded by slaughter on every side, he must choose his path forward - and choose it quickly. RotS AU." Featuring Jocasta Nu.
Synchronous; G, 67.9k. "It's the usual time-entangling fiasco: 'Find the disturbance. Rectify the wrong. Fix the anomaly. Bring balance to the past so the Force may be balanced in the future.' There is a slight miscalculation, however, and Luke Skywalker finds himself in the Clone Wars while having to masquerade in the body of his late father Anakin Skywalker. Leia and Han aren't so helpful either."
In the Midst of Darkness Lays a Sleeping Light; T, 26.0k. Series, wherein Palpatine turns Vader into a dragon. (It goes great for both of them. Totally.) Angsty and enjoyable, and an interesting exploration of dehumanization/rehumanization.
To Set Up a Sith; T, 35.2k. "Teenage Luke tries to help his unwitting Sith father make a friend, with a little help from his ghost mom and the Force." Interesting story with fun and sweet bits, and I'm super curious about how it will turn out if it's ever finished!
like a lazy ocean hugs the shore; T, 10.7k. After Vader kills him, Fox gets stuck in a time loop around the time when Fives is killed.
Living Every Day; T, 82.9k. "When Satine Kryze survives her encounter with Darth Maul, it changes the galaxy. But even more than that, it changes the lives of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Skywalker family."
Dancing with Ghosts in Your Garden; T, 979.3k. Star Wars PT and TCW characters, but in a Hogwarts setting. It works surprisingly well! There's a little more teenage romance than is my personal preference, but it's a cool AU and quite long if you're looking for a fun, imaginative fic to absolutely bury yourself in for a while. (And it looks like Ahsoka might finally be entering during the next year of the fic!!)
What We've Become; T, 82.0K. "Darth Vader and Ahsoka’s fight on Malachor takes a different path, and Ahsoka actually is able to save her master. Or rather, she’s able to convince him to save himself. Diverges from canon in the last few minutes of Twilight of the Apprentice and goes increasingly AU from there."
better late than never; G, 41.4k. Ahsoka wins at Malachor, Vader redemption fic.
Madhouse Promenade; T, 13.0k. "In a bid to save his new apprentice's life, Darth Sidious siphoned the life force from Padmé Amidala, ultimately killing her. Ten years later, after finding out the truth, Darth Vader finds himself haunted by her ghost, and Padmé finds herself face-to-face with what her husband has become."
Hard Reset; T, 33.4k. "Anakin Skywalker wakes up to his worst nightmare, and he doesn't even know all of it yet." Aka Vader gets amnesia, and Anakin is confused about everything. (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
The Ghosts on Coruscant; T, 143.6k. After surviving Mustafar and living as a rebel for eight years, Padmé is captured by the Empire, and Vader finds out.
Of Queens, Knights, and Pawns; T, 616.6k. ST-era Leia time travels back to ANH.
Old Man Luke; M, 109.4. ST-era Luke and Leia time travel to the Clone Wars.
Comics (all wips)
Dark Chasm; T, 21 chapters. "On Bespin, the truth is revealed, and Vader bids for Luke to join him. Luke looks down into the dark chasm and makes a choice."
Imperial Babysitters; T, 17 chapters. Cute comic/art series with Luke being raised by Vader, Piett, and Veers.
Our New Hope; T, 57 chapters. "After Ahsoka Tano discovers 12-year-old Luke Skywalker on Tatooine, she takes him under her wing and around the Galaxy. Meanwhile, Darth Vader has found Bail Organa's force-sensitive daughter and has started training her as a Junior Inquisitor. A chance encounter between the twins brings their worlds together."
The Tinies; G, 76 chapters. Cute comic with Vader and Padmé raising Luke and Leia.

I can't believe there is a "Cursed Cat Alastor Controversy" and that once again I had to have the evil lepreconartist who lords over the fandom making his gold off of Medrano's despair explain to me in order to understand what the fuck is going in on the fandom, yet again ... But I kind of hate you all so here's my hot take...
It's actual petty bullshit.
It's the equivalent of a fanartist calling out an AMV maker for "art theft" and demanding that a video they worked hard on be taken down because they used a piece of fanart for a character in an AMV tribute to the character that both the fanartist and the AMV maker (who is already an artist in their own right) already do not actually fucking own. Like, regardless if the AMV maker gives the fanartist credit. Instead of being honored by it, when they should know better that neither of them ever actually even own the shit to begin with, yet they still demand "credit" for fanwork.
I once saw a popular Asian artist in the svtfoe fandom demanding a boycott of the popular fan run merch store TheMysteryShack just as the beautiful fan made artbook Tales of Rebel Princess was about to launch exclusively through there because she alleged that the shop owner had stolen one of her friends fanart designs on a goddamn fucking Steven Universe tarot card pack of all things but I still really liked her Star fanart, so when I tried to respectfully explain to her that I wouldn't be boycotting the shop because of Tales of Rebel Princes launching and how I thought it was personally in very poor taste to not just contact the shop owner privately about the matter and instead making a big stink in public about boycotting his shop when she knew that one of her other artist friends that we knew she had also collaborated with in the past was just about to debut another big collaborative art tribute book dedicated to Daron and Star vs. there through this guys shop! And essentially it would be sad to see her knowingly taking business away from her other friend like that and demanding others in her following do the same and over something as small as a deck of Steven Universe cards, especially in understanding how little love svtfoe gets, since she was also a well known svtfoe fanartist ... All I got in response was "Well I'm happy for my friend but I'm Korean and you're just a Filthy American who couldn't possibly understand how disrespectful something like this is in my culture and blah blah blah if you instant on further harassing me about this I'll block you!"
And I was basically like "suit yourself being fake and having a stick up your butt honey I'm still getting my Star vs. artbook!"
And then she blocked me.
Good riddance. As if Miss Heinous would honestly ever head bang to Ruberiot...
But I guess what I'm trying to get here is that like...Oh, I'm sorry? You wanna make fanart for western cartoons? You gotta play by western rules then. Like it's late night here and I'm sorry if that sounds harsh. But it's true.
If Aurelio Voltaire honestly deserves to have a deal be cut in my opinion so he can finally officially own his share of the "Vampair" series after Daria Cohen stole his voice to make it (half dry humor, half serious here, to be quite frank about this) then coma0423 deserves to cut a deal so that Amir Talai can have a bit of financial comprehension and his percentage of whatever kind of (I'm guessing financial) ~"credit'~ that Coma is now demanding from other fanartists who make Cursed Cat Alastor fan merch since Talai , after all, did design the original concept sketch that would become Cursed Cat Alastor that Coma saw and then decided to just runaway with when they made the meme ...
Listen to me... Fanart belongs to everyone and no one by nature of it being made by fans and no one can truly own a "fan concept" expect for the true creator of the thing that it's based on. Unless that thing is already in the public domain. And if it is it becomes Schrodinger's Cheshire Cat.
Schrodinger's Cursed Cat Alastor belongs to everyone and no one, babe. He belongs to The Hazbin Hotel Fandom and The Hazbin Hotel. If he actually becomes canon in the show somehow, then he'll belong to Amir and Viv, actually, maybe Coma will get proper credit then, but the concept won't even really be theirs anymore, just as it even isn't really officially theirs now, even if they officially do get hired.
First you're telling me that I'm not allowed to fuck the radio demon ... Now you're telling me that I'm apparently not even allowed to kiss a cute wittle kitty cat plushie of him between the space on his head between his ears if said plush wasn't crafted by or sold explicitly by the fanartist who again, stole the concept sketch of him from Amir Talai in the first place?
No. This is nonsense.
Stop making all these petty dramas off someone else's work that only feed the evil leprechaun more gold off of someone else's work or start making you're own original work from your own original concept that you can actually claim your own copyright to I'm exhausted.
Ever hear the phrase once something leaves your brain it belongs to everyone, not just you anymore?
This goes triple for anyone making fanart of someone else's work and that's a fact. Especially if it's only ever an extremely memed up version of an already canonically existing character that you were only so lucky went viral.
Stop the bullying. No one fanwork is that special. Just do your best to honor the source material and be flattered by other fanartists imitations of your fanartist imitation... It's the circle of cursed kitties and it feeds us all. *smacks paw down*

sjm/fandom rant
so i was thinking.. as much as i can’t stand that side of the fandom, the huge problem here is actually sarah (and/or her team i guess?) and how she has been handling this mess ever since acosf came out.
>starting with that cursed bonus chapter: lets be fr there’s now way she didn’t know what she was doing. but let’s say she truly didn’t. let’s say that at the time she truly wasn't expecting gwynriel to become popular and for them to not pick up on the fact that the bonus chapter’s ending was definitely not a romatic set up. all this time she could've put a stop to it but she never did and she's been perpetuating this shipwar by not saying anything specific about acotar instead.
>elain hate and everyone diminishing everything she's done in the series: she's partially at fault for that too. for example she is the one that made nesta take all the credit for killing hybern without a rebuttal, she made her almost nonexistent in acosf then in cc too and gave the spotlight to azriel instead. and i know that the number of appearances =/ importance, i know that elain doesn’t need further set up, but at the same time does sjm really expect people to remember little details, crumbs and to analyze the text after years? if you don’t talk about elain, they’ll forget about elain. if you write more and more about azriel, why would they expect anything other than for him to be an important character? and yes he will be, with elain, but where is she? what about her?
>gwynriels’ misogynistic takes: i will NEVER justify them but, again, sarah is the one that decided to include in her books women changing their anatomy to bear their partners babies. it took her three years to to vaguely acknowledge how disgusting the takes around that topic have been in that one conversation in hofas.
>same goes for gwynriels saying azriel's only lusting after elain. anyone with at least one working braincell knows it's not true but at the same time can we really blame them for thinking otherwise given with how sarah made azriel act with rhys and that whole necklace fiasco afterwards? and yes, i know that there’s been a subtle debunking of basically every single gwynriel ‘theory’/proof in cc but, again, she knows how obsessed they are. she’s not doing enough and at this point it’s hard to think she’s not aware of it.
i guess my final point is: do i think this mess of a fandom is ONLY sarah's fault? of course not. but has she been CONSCIOUSLY playing a big part in it? i think so. so far she's done close to nothing to end this nonsense. she could've but she's choosing not to. we should all acknowledge that instead of fighting with each other all the time.

Ok, so people on Bionicle Discords are talking about Creeping in My Soul and Bring Me to Life. I think it's a common sentiment that the former is almost certainly based on the latter (though is a definite improvement IMO). But what if I told you that Bring Me to Life is actually way more relevant to Bionicle than its "copycat"? Specifically, it's a conversation between Mata Nui and Matoro at the end of 2007.
Going to need to go line by line for this
How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Starting off a bit weak, but Mata Nui's eyes are quite literally doors. BA6 shows that Naho Bay is where the Toa Metru first arrived on the island above, and that's directly above one of the GSR's eyeholes.
Leading you down into my core
Matoro is being led to Karda Nui, which is often referred to as the core of the universe, by the return of Voya Nui.
where I've become so numb
The core is numb, the energy storms have stopped.
Without a soul, my spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
It's essential to the conclusion of 2008 that Mata Nui's spirit temporarily left his body.
Until you find it there and lead it back home
Pretty self explanatory, Mata Nui wants Matoro to use the mask to return his spirit to his body before he dies.
Wake me up inside
Again self explanatory, Mata Nui telling the beings inside him to wake him up.
Call my name and save me from the dark
Three guesses as to what the dark represents.
Bid my blood to run before I come undone
Either referring to the repopulation of Metru Nui (Matoran are often likened to red blood cells) or reactivation of the energy storms (Karda Nui is the heart).
Save me from the nothing I've become
A bit of foreshadowing for the twist ending of 2008. Mata Nui has realized that Makuta, who is often referred to as "nothing", has become the Great Spirit.
Now that I know what I'm without, you can't just leave me
Mata Nui's character arc is about recognizing how he completely ignored his inhabitants. He took them for granted, and he recognizes that here.
Breathe into me and make me real
Ok yeah I got nothing
Bring me to life
Self explanatory.
Frozen inside without your touch, without your love
Another reference to ice, Matoro's element. This is starting to get into the importance of Matoro specifically, elaborated on in the next line.
Darling, only you are the life among the dead
Matoro is the Ignika's chosen bearer. Only he can hold it without being cursed. He's also about to be very much not alive, but Mata Nui reassures him that his spirit will live on. It's also a nod to the Kanohi Tryna that was given to him as a test of character. He would resurrect the dead, being the only life among them.
All this time I can't believe I couldn't see
Alright, Matoro lines. What has he realized?
Kept in the dark, but you were there in front of me
Ah, he's realized the true identity of Mata Nui! The Great Spirit has been in front of him all along, just not in a form he recognized. Canon materials often used the phrase of toiling "in the dark" when describing the Matoran creating the GSR as a euphemism for being unaware that their home was the body of the Great Spirit.
I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems, got to open my eyes to everything
lol
Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul
Matoro is transforming into energy. He's beginning to lose his corporeal form.
Don't let me die here, there must be something more
Matoro regrets his decision to don the mask. This is something that explicitly doesn't happen in canon, but this isn't actually a Bionicle song and I'm doing my best here ok
Bring me to life
I've been living a lie
Matoro grappling with the revelation that Mata Nui is the MU.
There's nothing inside
Again an oblique reference to Makuta taking control of Mata Nui's body.
so there you have it, incontrovertible proof that this popular mainstream song that was released in 2003 was written about the plotline of a 2007 toy. i will not be taking questions at this time.

So if Crowley was Levan...
Why would he be *gestures at him* the way he is now? I think that's the general roadblock to this theory, which is so understandable. The Levan/Revan (how is his name spelled) we know of so far is loyal, dependable, and truly in love with Mallenoa, as its the only way for a dragon's egg to hatch. There's so little we actually know of the TWST universe, so we could be blindsided by any answer haha. But using what we know so far, I want to risk a little guess:
Overblot.
Tumblr media
A genius post once mentioned how Crowley's mask and gloves (that he still wears in his vacation outfit) are accessories that would cover overblot markings, like ink on his hands or face. Another detail I noticed are Crowley's lips. of course, it could be makeup or a fae feature, but I've begun to doubt it. Malleus, for example, has noticeably darker lips, but not to the point that they're super noticeable on his model. But Crowley's lips are ink black- that same type of black that has been present on several Overblot victims.
Tumblr media
But a very noticeable change that overblot victims have are their personalities. It's like the worst aspects of themselves, or their suppressed desires, come out and magnify themselves tenfold. It consumes their original personality, and as we learned from Styx, the blot eats them up until there's nothing left. However, there's very little known about overblot, and the potential of Fae magic in general.
Tumblr media
This, added with the fact that in rare cases, phantoms can blend in direbeasts, and how Grim has thousand-year-old magic cast on him (currently unknown if its a blessing or a curse), I have an absolute insane crack theory to suggest:
Tumblr media
Grim was Crowley's phantom.
Tumblr media
Yes yes absolute nonsense I know oavfjkbsd. We know Grim is currently eating the black overblot stones, which will probably make him the phantom he's theorized to become. But why then, was extremely powerful magic cast on him a THOUSAND years ago? Combining this with Crowley's potential overblot markings, I'm thinking that Crowley managed to force his own phantom out of him, sealing it away with magic- OR had someone else seal it.
Again- STYX knows so very little about overblot despite their advanced technology. Pretty much anything is possible, especially when there's a potentially powerful fae involved. But this part of the theory is kinda optional, just because a thousand years wouldn't line up with the timeline akcjbvsk. Of course, Idia could've been exaggerating, but the Grim theory is already a bit much haha
Another edit: Another big brain genius comment mentioned how the thousand-year-old magic could also refer to a SPELL thats a thousand years old, so the timeline could still be accurate. This makes a lot of sense, because the transcription of magic and history vary A LOT throughout the kingdoms, and extremely little is known about fae in general. It would make sense that even STYX wouldn't know an ancient fae spell.
Edit: An absolutely genius comment mentioned how Grim managed to open MC's coffin. Crowley says no one has ever opened the coffin before he opened it for them, and he's been the headmaster for at least 100 years. If Grim was a part of Crowley, he would have the ability to open the coffin by himself! Thank you for this comment <3
Tumblr media
According to Book 7, Levan was constantly praised by Mallenoa, for stuff that really didn't deserve it. Yet was loyal and dependable, to the point Lilia dedicated a long time to search for him. But as we know, Overblot changes the personality significantly- or rather, magnifies what was already there.
If Crowley managed to suppress the majority of his Overblot state and seal his own phantom away, he still wouldn't be the same person he was before. He never cured himself of his overblot like the other TWST characters- he's still trapped in a limbo. Although he's not in a senseless rampage, the worst aspects of himself overtook the person he used to be, becoming greedy, shifty, self-serving. I've heard popular theories of Overblots being tied to the Deadly Sins, and we could even say that Crowley's is Vainglory: Excessive boasting, excessive self-love and the desire to be loved, even if it isn't deserved.
To sum it all up, I think Levan/Revan overblotted some time soon after he left Mallenoa and the egg- perhaps a certain battle was too much for him, and never returned. Somehow, his phantom was torn from him, but lingering effects from the overblot essentially wiped the original person he used to be. Crowley is very sus and seems to be up to something, but I have no idea what. But if he's been in that state for this long, it's possible that he could never return to being Levan.
Tumblr media
Edit: I also want to add how Crowley says "fear not the power of darkness" in the opening. I think this opening sequence has a lot of importance and has a lot of foreshadowing, But notice how he says "darkness." It's kind of a running joke in the TWST universe how all the villains are treated like the good guys. Everyone thinks their actions are just, they never treat their powers or actions as 'evil' or 'dark.' But if Crowley overblotted- and was somehow tempted by its power, he may acknowledge its dark and forbidden powers and is attempting to harness it
ANyway im an absolute clown and will remain this way until my silly crack theorists are crushed by canon haha

Been a while since I’ve posted a rant here, and now that I have Many Thoughts about Pixlriffs’ recent Empires episodes, it’s time for another one.
This isn’t really a theory as much as it is me pointing out some interesting connections and exciting details, though I do theorize a little bit.
(Spoilers for episodes 34 and 35 of Pixlriffs’ Empires S2!)
Okay first of all, it’s super interesting to me that Pix was the one to find the Crown and put it on, proclaiming himself to be the king, even saying that it “fit quite nicely” when this was his Tweet teasing Season 2:
Tumblr media
“Not all heads are suited for a crown.”
Which also feels very in-line with S1 Pix exiling himself for much the same reason; not feeling as if he was deserving of the crown and like all he did was bring upon ruin to his subjects. He deemed his head unsuited and unfit for a crown. (This is a popular theory for why he left S1 early, lore-wise.)
So Pix then wearing the Crown in S2 felt strange when his whole premise was that he isn’t a ruler this season. ...But then, in E35, the Crown itself kills Pix. He says that it “had other ideas for who was destined to wear it.” ...Interesting.
No, I have no idea why he’s now a ghost, but I’m very interested to see where he goes with it. Now that he can see the ghost cat (he made it canon!), it’s possible he’ll be able to see ghosts of other people as well... perhaps even some people from the past we might already know. It seems we might finally be approaching Pix’s S1 tie-ins, which he’s already teased once before with David (the copper aging machine). “How did the Copper King’s ancient machine end up in my hands? Trust in the lore man.” (Probably not the exact quote, but it’s close enough.)
And what does he say in this newest episode?  "Maybe the archaeologist of the ancient capital and the curator of the museum was a piece of the past himself all along."
He may very well be the literal ghost of the Copper King. After all, we already know from Sausage’s lore that the S2 characters are reincarnations of the S1 characters. They’re all the same. And sooner or later, all of them will begin to remember.
(Perhaps the Crown kills everyone who wears it and not just Pix because he’s “unfit for a crown” but who knows. Maybe everyone who wears the Crown will become ghosts; maybe the Crown kills all the past rulers. Maybe it just simply kills everyone; maybe it’s been cursed. Maybe it just kills Pix because of his early removal from the throne in S1. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.)

Never noticed it before either but the Shouto & Yuki comparison works so well bc both of them were among the first characters helped by the protag in their series, and they both become a fierce loyal friend to the protag in the process. Their healing continues independently after receiving help from the protag and their arcs have this similarity of reconnecting with a brother they don't know much (Ayame and Touya).
Tumblr media
Anon, this comparison is making me insane. I also spent a good hour or so searching the manga for Yuki's chapters so I could see for myself, and I'm screaming.
This comparison works really well when you're looking at the entire zodiac as the siblings Yuki was isolated from and resented by.
Tumblr media
Birth being long awaited-a curse disguised as a privilege
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Watching everyone else play/be together and ignore/resent him (including his own biological brother)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kyo actually reminds me more of Touya and Shouto just because of the visceral reaction of trying to beat down/win and prove himself against Yuki (Touya trying to kill Shouto). I know Akito isn’t their father and I know there is an accompanying motive for Kyo wanting to beat him so bad (not wanting to be locked away), but Akito in this case is in Endeavor’s position (Yuki having Akito’s attention and not wanting it, Kyo wanting Akito’s approval and not getting it).
Tumblr media
I definitely find it fun that both characters' arcs involve reconciling with their biological brother that they basically never had in their lives, but Ayame and Yuki remind me more of Rei and Shouto.
Definitely, definitely different circumstances and dynamics, but it's similar in the way that Ayame hurt Yuki and left him behind and then wanted to make up for it later down the line. It's the only biological bond Yuki cares to mend and then his relationship with the rest of the zodiac (his 'siblings') is just...yeah. God.
And then what was already pointed out about Yuki taking initiative in his healing. Tohru opened his heart early on and he slowly decided to start growing on his own throughout the manga. Shouto's decision happened quicker and through the use of fighting (shonen hahah) but he made the decision to see his mom and start there. Gahhh
Thanks for this it drove me crazy in a good way.
This proves absolutely nothing on a meta level but it kind of opens my eyes to how BNHA is constructed and how it's a little wild that it has a lot of the same components as one of the most popular shojo manga out there.
That to say that Fruits Basket also sticks out in its genre for the same reasons BNHA sticks out it is own. But I love that BNHA has a lot of the same sappy, emotionally charged, interpersonal components that Fruits Basket has. Maybe that's why I like the endgame we're heading toward for BNHA so much.
I've loved Furuba since I was 12 years old so I guess it makes sense lol

no I feel you so much with the AU thing. ships I like becoming popular is always a double-edged sword to me because on one hand yayy more content in the ao3 tag! but on the other hand Curse Of One Million OOC AUs and it's like. Okay. people can do what they want. whatever. but also like. does their canon dynamic and history and everything not fascinate you. why are you turning them into cookie cutter yaoi. who are these characters. yk
(ofc there are exceptions to this and I've seen and read good AUs too! but they're rare in comparison sadly)
yeahhh it's just really tiring when at the end of the day it's not what i want, even if others are having fun. honestly that's why i've been writing so much spiderbit stuff like i love fluff i love characters going to sleep, sleep soup and like. idk some other s word are my signatures in fics but also bc there's so little in-canon spiderbit stuff and i want there to be more. ive written like five reunion fics bc ive only seen like two other people do them! i'm writing a million specific era ones bc i love those moments so much and i wish there was more fanworks about them, which i guess is how fandom always works (you get so annoyed with a hole in the fandom that you have to fill it) but it's like i have a life i can't be doing all this!!!! but yeah back to your original point it's just unfortunate bc it feels like people care more about inserting the characters into whatever aus they want to make regardless of the fit and they don't really engage with canon at all. like the amount of qsmp fans who do not actually like. watch any streams or videos is actually insane i'm like fuck no wonder no one can write dialogue

mini soundtrack review!!
i was so worried about the music for season 2 of jjk after alisa okehazama and hiroaki tsutsumi left the team, but yoshimasa terui has really come into his own with the freedom to create a score that suits his style, rather than working around other people.
i feel like the music for season 2 brings us a lot closer to having a recognisable “sound” for jjk thanks to the unique instrumentation and strong use of motifs. i think yoshimasa terui’s energetic style really suits the modern setting with its “cool” characters, but he’s also great at switching it up when the scene calls for it — like the piano piece in hidden inventory, or the opening to the mechamaru fight which is a tip of the hat to 90s anime.
apart from megumi’s theme and nanami’s theme from the kyoto fight in jjk 0, i didn’t really like any of yoshimasa terui’s tracks before season 2, so i’m honestly shocked by how much i’m loving the music this season. i think he’ll probably become my favourite jjk composer overall by the end of season 2 — so wow, you showed me i guess!!
if you haven’t listened to the whole hidden inventory soundtrack, please do!! there are so many brilliant tracks that didn’t feature in the anime and it’s such a shame. the album really picks up from ‘searching for riko’ so start there if the tracks at the beginning put you off. my favourites in soundtrack order:
limitless cursed technique - such a dreamy track which sets the stage for gojo’s leitmotif to come round again and again throughout the soundtrack, representing all his highs and lows
prepare yourself - i adore the tasty rhythms and the polyphony and the delicious strings towards the end!!
if i am with you - no need to say anything at all 😭
no hesitation - this might be the best track on the whole soundtrack and it wasn’t used?! incredible guitar work and super satisfying syncopation
physical prowess - we only hear a tiny bit in the anime, but the beauty of this track is in hearing how all its different parts fit together as a whole. it’s a journey of rich textures!!
with rage - super atmospheric track that feels to me like the musical representation of the point “the strongest duo” fractures
delirious - use a good pair of headphones to get your world rocked!! so much to say about this track, but i’ll limit myself to gushing about how the distorted version of gojo’s leitmotif representing his mental state after his rebirth reminds me of how terui distorted megumi’s theme for “an unfair reality” in season 1 - simple but so effective!!
decision - seems like this was composed for the moment suguru decides his “true feelings” so whyyyy wasn’t it used for that??? this piece literally sounds like suguru losing his grip on his sanity before the chaos in his mind is replaced by calm and quiet when he finally lands on his decision. the build up to the stuttering percussion that becomes his signature sound is so so good!!
anyway, that’s what was rattling around my brain this rainy tuesday morning. i wish there was more analysis of the jjk music online because there are tons of little clues woven into it, like how suguru’s leitmotif slowly warps into something unrecognisable over the course of the soundtrack. i’m from a musical background, but it’s not my day job so i’m not confident enough to do it myself.
i hope with the increase in popularity of the anime and the more cohesive soundtrack for season 2, someone will dig into it!!

Gojo has his head. In season 2 he tells toji he failed to kill him because he didn't cut off his head. Sukuna didn't cut off his head. He can still heal his body.
Plus we see Nanami tell gojo that there are two paths. One to change you or one to stay who you are. Gojo says goodbye to his dead friends and we see him walk away showing he's taking the second path. We also see a lotus then.
Which symbols strength and renewal.
Gojo is not dying. He may be gone a few chapters but everything his hunting he will heal his body and be back.
Gojo will live.
i wish i had your hopium but i gotta correct a few things here ... 1) it was said by i think kashimo (i dont even remember) that cursed energy comes from the gut, and gojo has been split into two from his stomach. toji never bisected him, even if he managed to stab him through the cranium. 2) gojo didn't say goodbye to his friends in the afterlife, that was a mistranslation. 3) he's not walking away from anything either ?? 4) the chapter title is called "going south" bruh...
listen. i so badly want him to come back. i really fucking do. i read jjk 0 when it came out in jump giga in 2017 and when it wasn't called jjk yet (it was called tokyo metropolitan curse technical school btw). i've been with gojo since mfing 2017... 2017!!! i've loved him for over 6 years now i can't even believe it's been so long.. i never expected that silly oneshot manga to become this popular 🥹 kinda makes me happy how loved jjk is currently :')))) but the fact of the matter is that gege has stated numerous times that he wants to finish jjk soon. he actually stated in late 2022 that he was planning on finishing it in 2023. gege's editor has come out and said that the manga will not be ending this year though, so my guess is somewhere around spring 2024 everything will be wrapped and and be donezo so that gege can move on to that goddamn idol manga he's been yapping about for a while now. so what am i trying to say with this tangent? i'm saying that jjk is ending soon and that gege has stated multiple times how difficult it was for him to write around the powerhouse that is gojo (which is just an admission of his own shitty writing/planning because mf YOU 🫵 are the writer like you are the one that created him!!! learn how to plan out your story and how to utilize the characters you yourself have created for it you stupid fucking cat i swear to god....). this all just screams to me that it's over. it's finished. gojo already died once and came back enlightened, he's not gonna have it a second time. not this close to the end. not after having been removed from the narrative for over a hundred chapters. not after seeing sukuna back at full health in his heian era form, something gege didn't even have gojo force out of him. like gege really got him out of the box so that he could be done with him unarguably and conclude his character arc because he wants to finish jjk.
gojo is dead, nobara is for sure dead, megumi is basically done for (we'll see him once more within the mind once yuuji does his soul cursed technique whatever bullshit on sukuna to have a talk but he's not coming back no more), and yuuji, the kid whose execution started this story, will be the only one left alive. gege said in an interview a while ago that he wanted to end jjk with either 1 of the main 4 dead, or only 1 of the main 4 alive. i think it's pretty obvious that person is supposed to be yuuji. "die surrounded by your friends" from the first chapter is going to turn into "all your dead friends will surround you". i am wholeheartedly convinced of this. i'm sorry, but after 3 years of having to sit through that worthless culling game arc leading to absolutely nowhere for our heroes, after realizing that there will never be a pay off for the last 100+ chapters because the whole point of the arc is now fucking dead just like that, i do not have it in me to have any faith nor hope in gege's writing skills. it's become painfully clear to me how mid that guy is at writing and how hard he is rushing towards the end. i have lost all faith and goodwill i used to hold for gege.

DISCUSSIONS OF THE JJK MANGA
Okay so I just got fully caught up in the jjk manga after binging all 220~ chapters in the span of a couple days. I went in knowing some stuff about the characters, nothing major, but enough to set up some expectations for the story
All I'm gonna say is that those expectations were absolutely SMASHED. The action is intense, the development is amazing, the characters are well written, the story is very well paced, and the antagonists are EXCELLENT.
Speaking of antagonists, I love Mahito. He very quickly rocketed to becoming my favorite character in the entire series. He does a bunch of fucked up shit and it's awesome, because he's so blatantly evil that anything else would be disappointing. Yes he kills some very popular characters, but it simply wouldn't be in character for him to just let them live. He's consistent while still being unpredictable. Every panel he was in, I knew shit was going to do down and that it was going to be a hell of a time reading it.
Geto (well, I guess I should say Kenjaku) is amazing too. I love how he's both manipulative and also very clear in his intentions. He offers a more deliberate approach to the antagonists of the series, being more meticulous in how he goes about tackling his plans. Learning bits and pieces about him and his motives as the story progresses is so much fun, because it leaves you guessing how he's going to go about making his goals a reality (and holy shit, I did not expect for him to rope in foreign militaries into making his goals happen.)
Of course I have to sing praises for the main characters as well, because they make the story what it is. Itadori is put into such an interesting position from the start, both by being thrust into the world of sorcerers and purely by being Sukunas vessel. The way he matures throughout the story is such a gradual change that feels so natural, and it's something I love to see. He's not a static character - he's always striving to improve and get shit done and it's amazing.
Megumi is incredibly interesting to me. From the start you kind of expect him to take the path of the classic troubled anti-hero (think Itachi or maybe even Sasuke), but as you get to know him as a character it becomes apparent that he adverts all of those expectations. He's not afraid to kill people if he needs to, but he doesn't revel in it. It's a necessary evil, and his view on morality is incredibly interesting. He's not explicitly good, but he's extremely far from bad as well. His mental turmoil when faced with the threat of his sister being killed for something she had nothing to do with was heartbreaking, and seeing how all of his effort amounts to practically nothing when faced with her death is as soul shattering for the reader as it is for him (especially seeing as his body was the one used to kill her).
Gojo is a character I probably knew the most about going into the series. Hes THE character in jjk, and it's hard not know who he is if you're even a bit active in the modern animanga community. But even then I feel like his character is very easily misread by many people. He's seen as this childish guy with a god complex by many people who either haven't gotten far into the series are aren't bothered to take a deeper look into why he is the way he is. Especially in the chapters looking back on his past with Geto, it's interesting to look at the parallels between how he acts in the current timeliness and how Geto acted before he became an antagonist. He's grows very subtly throughout the series while still staying very similar to how he was at the start, and that isn't a bad thing at all.
Sukuna, similar to Mahito, is very blatantly evil. I mean, how could he not be. He doesn't show up a lot like I thought he would, but when he does it always leaves a hell of an impact. He acts for himself and himself alone, but he isn't unaware of the people/curses around him. We've seen very little about his past, and honestly I'm so pumped to see a bit more into what shaped him into how he is in the current point of the series. Him switching into Megumis body was such an adrenaline filled moment for me, because holy SHIT things are getting serious. You're reminded just how much of an enigma Itadori is, because up until that point you're used to Sukuna not being able to take control of his body as he pleases. But now? Megumi is practically powerless now that Sukuna took control of his body.
I have a lot more thoughts on the characters and just the story in general, but that's just my impressions right now dhajdjjdj
Didn't expect to write that much tbh

Since the theme is the villains, maybe we should be prepared for dark, angst, tragedy and unpleasant things which is more than Ikepri or Ikevamp story 👍
At first I thought the theme of Ikevil's story would be witches in the 19th century lol. Since villains/angst/dark stories become popular, Cybird dared to take this idea. Even though actually I'm still quite sad about Ikerev and Ikelive, especially Ikelive which i never played at all
Ikemen Genjiden Eng when? 😂
For sure, the idea of this 'Fairy Tale Curse' is very interesting. Didn't expect them to take ideas from the Magic Mirror or Thorns 👏 Can't wait for the game 😁
Please look forward and support the game!

It’s been a while since the last entry in this series, but here are the author’s notes for i’ve become the villain’s lover, the longest one shot I’ve written to date!
1. I wanted to base each character off of a specific troupe you find in isekai/transmigrator/reincarnator/returning to the past manhwa, though some of them ended up being more similar to their in-game counterparts… here are the inspirations for each character!
Riddle: the cold duke… the one who is feared by everyone, who doesn’t care for romantic dalliances, who is infamous throughout the empire… it’s a very common troupe and I thought it suited Riddle very well!
Leona: the scorned prince is also a popular troupe in manhwa, and fits Leona’s in-game backstory pretty well, huh. Though Leona is scorned not due to an illegitimate heritage but because of the fact he can never live up to his brother, the golden child...
Azul: the head of the information guild… is this not similar to azul’s role in canon or what? There’s not much else for me to say here, either, because Azul’s role speaks for itself!
Jamil: I love Jamil and Kalim’s complicated dynamic a lot, so I focused more on translating that into the fic instead of fitting Jamil into an existing manhwa troupe. There’s not really a troupe for traitorous advisors in manhwa (or maybe there is, and I just can’t think of any at the moment), but Jamil fits in pretty well anyways, I think!
Vil: childcare manhwas are super cute, and while I was struggling on what to write for Vil (there aren’t a lot of popular performer troupes in manhwa, excluding hidden talents who are sponsored by the protag), I thought about this troupe and realized it would be fitting for Vil and Epel! Though they aren’t really father and son so much as mentor and protege… I also added fake dating because why not spice it up a little?
Idia: the head of the magic tower!! The magic tower is such a staple in manhwa even though it’s never really elaborated on most of the time. It’s like oh, the magic tower, everyone knows the magic tower. I also drew on the whole “ml is cursed and only mc can cure them” troupe but thought it would be too cheap if reader just cured Idia by the end after everything Idia went through… what is the cure for his curse? Originally I was going to have it be “true love’s kiss” to reference the cast’s original inspirations (hi fairytales), but then… that opened up too many plot holes! So I don’t have any solutions as of writing this, sorry Idia,,,
Malleus: the crown prince… it fit Malleus’s current status too well! The “royalty sneaks into town and falls in love with a commoner” troupe isn’t manhwa specific but I thought it was cute, anyways, and suited Malleus a lot. Unintentionally his part of the fic ended up being the most romantic and fluffy… I guess it’s because I can’t see him acting hostile whatsoever, unlike the other guys…
2. Originally I toyed with giving the fic a twist ending on why the reader was transmigrated/isekai-ed. for example, I considered the idea that reader was originally from the novel, died and reincarnated into the “real” world, and had their soul called back into the novel because of the villains who loved them (who perhaps lost their memories in the process of bringing them back). Or maybe your friend in the real world is actually Hera Winn from the novel, and had reincarnated with you in an effort to bring your soul back to the novel world. But that became convoluted fast so it’s… all up to interpretation! I didn’t touch on the reason for why reader transmigrated because I think the consequences were more fun to write about, haha.
3. The fic title is also inspired by a lot of manhwas, which usually have their premise directly in the title. I guess it’s a way to grab the reader’s attention while telling them exactly what they’re gonna find in the plot!
4. Though I had reader reject every suitor for the sake of plot (sorry guys), I wanted to make it clear that reader and the villains are very fond of each other. I didn’t have time to write interactions after reader rejected them, but I like to imagine they’re still friends. Reader is very clear to everyone that they have six other rivals… and everyone is, of course, pretty catty to each other… but they’re also all friends! Somehow. Jamil and Azul hang out sometimes, and Vil and Riddle often bump into each other at parties and chat, and so on!
5. What about the other twst characters? Well, they can be eligible bachelors as well if you want! Again, if I tried to write something for them, the fic would have gotten much too long, but if I have time, I might briefly elaborate on their roles and backstories in a different post...

1. Thank you for the link to the fairytale!! ( Yup. Same anon lol.)
2. So the ending of the Valor fairytale said it either got story-cursed or we'll find it in another- which being a reader we can guess will be continued in acftl. I'm curious if the fall of House Merrywood, arguably one of the most favoured noble houses of the Valors had anything to do with the Star.
We know Wolfric promised all his children to noble houses so the Aurora-Vengeance thing is not really pointing towards closeness towards House Slaughterwood, and their two most popular children (and prolly most dangerous since their powers had to be hidden) basically grew up in Merrywood Village and they were close enough to the family that Honora Valor recognised one of their "nobody" friends by face (friendly reminder that of the Merrywood Three only Jacks wasn't named and that usually only happens when you're important because someone else made you important - by hanging out with them, for instance. Everything important has a name, so if you're not named, you're not important)
^would also like to mention that she recognised him despite living in Wolf Hall which is an entire days ride away from Merrywood Village (on improved transportation!! though how much you increase horse-drawn carriages idrk)
This also ties in with the theory that the Star also manipulated the downfall of the Valors, right down to the chopping up their heads and locking them into the Valory Arch. Why? I do not know - maybe the intention was to sneakily get rid of Wolfric and then get Honora?
Another theory I've seen is that Gavriel might be the Star and that seems legit- the Star's obsession with Honora reminds me of Jacks' obsession over Tella- not love, only the Fated illusion of it. The (Fallen) Star might even have taken the concept of a bunch of powerful not-quite-humans, and made the Fates as a replica of them. Explains how Esmeralda and Gavriel were able to actually do something so powerful and no one else has ever managed. Also ties in with why the Fates are severely weakened in the North (presence of the Valors and the amount of stars that were killed there- starry magic got weakened) also maybe why three of the North's prominent figures are Fates (sorta. convulated revenge angle).
If that was somehow not, and Gavriel wasn't the Star, then do you think the Star might have become a central antagonist to the plot of ACFTL?
Hello, anon!
That's very interesting! Like you, I definitely do believe that the star had something to do with the downfall of the Valors and the uprising of the Great Houses. I think he has succeeded with that revenge plan.
Since you bring up the star being a character in ACFTL, it has me thinking that this could be possible, too. I remember Stephanie saying that she's saying goodbye to the Caraval world to work on new worlds, which could add credibility to the star making an appearance in ACFTL.
Perhaps the star took the magic from the Magnificent North, and defeating him would bring it back. However, this kind of runs quite similar to the way the Fallen Star was defeated in Finale.
It's very curious 👀
