can’t believe the blacklist ended with the vaguest ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ reference to red being trans without any explicit confirmation in canon. or even any mention of the letter confirming his real identity to elizabeth that they’ve been teasing for years??? talk about a dropped plot line… i’m mad abt it from a queer tv viewer standpoint and also just as a fan who’s been waiting for this answer for years

not to the blacklist post on main after abandoning the show about three to four years ago but i know it's finally been laid to rest now so, as i have always had a soft spot for that snazzy old man, did we find out who raymond was in the end, was he liz's father (or was he in fact, a trans icon aka liz's mother/katarina??? did we get rederina) was dembe & agnes alright in the end? i'm assuming they killed red at the end of it all because i can't imagine it ending any other way then him just passing away quietly in a chair, the concierge of crime going out with a whimper instead of a bang.

Just found out how The Blacklist ended and I'm. Genuinely speechless. Is it just not allowed to have satisfying endings anymore?! Literally the stupidest ending I've heard off, somehow even more random and ridiculous than a rusty nail.

You had an anon mention slow burns and also Luke and Lorelie. Firstly I agree with the messiness of S5a and S6a. I wrote to you a few weeks ago its just messy timelines and I hope if they get S7 they stop this pacing. I don't know alot about the other ships but I believe in Luke and Lorelie supremacy. However..... no joke it was torture watching it real time pre-tumblr.
Listen, it took them 5 seasons to get together. Really only one season of drama free being together. They spent more time married to other people then spent together. We got the pay off in the last 5 minutes of the finale. We won, so yeah. But that shit was torture every week. Tumblr posts would have been a mess back then if it was the same now.
And I bring all this up to get to my point. I sustained it all because I was relatively certain that this straight couple would make it, I was supposed to root for them. They were at the basis each other's rocks. Buck and Eddie still are straight or the very least believe the other is. That's not just angst to get over, that's a sexual identity crisis to get over.
And hopefully like Gilmore Girls they will. One day I can rewatch the same way I do now. Spoiler alert, wanted to cry when she married Chris in Paris, now I can throw popcorn at it and laugh. Just kidding, I still FF that part.
But again, I'm like you I can't promise it will go Canon. If it doesn't its because they are cowards. However in alot of ways there is a stronger case for Buck and Eddie being soul mates rather then Luke and Lorelie. Again I love L&L but still they were messy and heartbreaking to watch.
Hi lovely Nonnie! Thank you so much for the ask. As well for keeping up with my blog and repeatedly writing to me. I appreciate the vote of confidence! ;)
As for Gilmore Girls, I have to confess that while I’ve seen an ep here or there (I never got to see them in sequence, as you’re meant to, so I never got into the swing of things. I’ve seen enough to know some basic stuff, but not much more than that). So I can’t comment on Luke and Lorelai’s love story beyond the fact that they were OBVIOUS. I could see them coming from the first sec I saw them in a scene together. They were ALWAYS going to happen. The show couldn’t have been clearer about it. And yeah, this is what a slow burn means, if we’re being honest. A lot of torture along the way, because it’s meant to make the pay off at the end that much sweeter. Does it actually manage to do it? The answer varies between ships, and probably between fans of the same ship, too. But that’s the principal, the road is usually bumpy, some parts of it are delicious angst and pining, and screaming about how these bozos still don’t get it, but yeah, some parts of it are not that fun to travel.
My deepest sympathies for going through all of that for Luke and Lorelai! I hear you, and I hope you still got to enjoy at least some of the pay off at the end of it all. I know how you feel. I went through 8 seasons for Keenler (BEWARE! SPOILERS for The Blacklist), and I can count the moments they were actually together on... let’s be generous and say two hands. But stupidly, it works. I treasure the moments that I did get all the more ‘coz I love how long and patiently and without demand Ressler waited for Liz. They had their messiness as well, but God, he loved her so profoundly. To see her realizing that and reciprocating his feelings was beautiful and worth it, even though I will forever wish they had more time together. But to tell you it was fun along the whole way? No. The parts of the story where Liz got back together with Tom were hell, seeing her re-committing herself to him was awful because HE was awful, in general and to Liz (so it wasn’t just as a Keenler shipper that I couldn’t stand that part of the show), and even when he was gone, there were almost two seasons where I survived on essentially one scene of comforting (but seemingly casual and platonic) touch. Slow burn is NOT for the faint of heart.
And you know what I love the most, Nonnie? Is that bit you threw in about Luke and Lorelai still having less in the way of ‘soulmate material’ than Buddie. Because I can actually make a LONG list of CANON couples that I absolutely ADORE that this is true for. And that’s exactly why we keep saying that if Buck or Eddie were a woman, they’d be inevitable, right?
Thank you again, have a great day! As always, here’s my ask tag. xoxox

Didn't realize The Blacklist ended this week.
I gave that show up two different times:
1) when they had Tom come back
2) when Keen kissed a mannequin during Covid
For the first, I was so angry they'd write Liz in such a way that the manipulation Tom used **as a spouse** was forgivable, not to mention the retconning or just ignoring the fact that he was also having an affair in S1? Maybe I just found a weird way to justify Red's secrecy cuz it was clear that was coming from a place of truth in that the less Liz knows, the safer she will be? But Tom being this wonder to Liz after all the shit never sat right with me. But I came back because I heard the show was going back to the tone from the first few seasons. It was gearing up again, so I caught up and was learning to love it.
But Covid came. Really even before Covid. I thought I was following a plot about Red and then all the sudden I found out Liz had feelings for Ressler that must have been in every deleted scene from every season because I was so confused why I was being shoe-horned into believing this relationship wasn't a dramatic plot device to "spice" up a show that was losing its spark. I couldn't do it anymore. I felt the writers really squandered the big picture and in the long-run squandered the continual success of the show. Spader killed every scene. Why did that show not have more viewers? Because so many of us left after such strange character developments and plot holes.
But to learn that the fans who watched til the end didn't even get a real answer? Fuck that. None of y'all deserved that.

Redarina baiting this late in the game! Seriously?

A few thoughts prior to the season 9 finale.
Episode 21 had me going for a minute. I really thought that the reason Marvin was able to find Red was that Chuck, the driver, had gone over to Marvin. Especially with that conversation between Marvin and someone who mentioned how much money Red normally paid, and Marvin offered to double it. I was so relieved that it turned out to be just a bug in the car! Yay for loyal Chuck! I see he's appearing in the finale, I hope he makes it out.
I wonder why we're getting a flashback to Young Agnes. I originally thought that they needed her to reveal something about the day Elizabeth died. Now I'm thinking more about how Elizabeth once said she was going to train Agnes to face dangers, as Elizabeth was trained when she was a child. I've also wondered if they might do a parallel where Agnes is the one who actually shoots and kills Marvin to protect Red.
We know that the Xiu sisters will not be in this episode. I hope we've seen the last of mierce, her calling him the god of death or whatnot certainly seems like she's done with him. But she was done with him pretty much from the beginning. I didn't buy for a moment that Red would actually leave Agnes and go back to the mountains. But I would be okay with Weecha coming back. I need to know more about their relationship, but she seems to be a solid friend for Red. And he doesn't seem to have many of those right now.
I miss Red and Dembe's relationship, and episode 9.21 gave a weird taste of it that was all wrong, with Dembe splitting hairs to betray Red twice. So while I want them back together, I think it's going to be a long haul if it ever gets there. And so it should be, they're not in a good place right now.
What is going to happen with Park? She isn't fit for field duty anymore, but I find it weird that they would simply keep her in the post office all the time. They've already got Aram doing that, and Park and Aram's relationship is good, but it's not that great that I would want to see it in every episode.
I wonder if there's a card left to play here for Panabaker. She had a much bigger role this season than ever before, and I really enjoyed it. She's now on terrible terms with Reddington, I hope the show capitalizes on that.
I feel weird about the promo pictures of the task force all dressed up at Liz's grave. I realize they're probably trying to put a bookend scene in where everyone says farewell to Liz. But I don't think it's necessary for them all to be at peace with Liz's death. Reddington certainly never should be, and it feels a tad disrespectful to both Liz and to Red that the rest of the task force seem to be getting there, especially on Dembe's part.
I think it's fairly obvious that Marvin is going to spill the beans to Wujing about Red and the task force working together. That is possibly the most dangerous thing that could happen to Red, and the task force as well. Every criminal Red has ever had dinner with will be gunning for him, and the task force too, as who knows what Red might have told them. I think Cooper should be paying a great deal of attention to that possibility. I'm very curious, I'm not sure how they put that cat back in the bag once it's out.
Honestly...this is gonna be a gas.

thoughts on The Blacklist s15 part one. first about Liz. in a lot of cases it can be interesting when the, or one of the, main characters leaves a show. it shakes things up, can give a new dynamic to everything. but in this case I don’t think it works. the show was so based on Liz and Red’s relationship from ep 1, and without her, something is just fundamentally missing. I wish shows were just allowed to end when they fucking should instead of running on forever just because they still bring in money. when she wanted to leave, the show should have ended. and to find out this isn’t even the last season? uuuugh. also, Red was supposed to be dying just last season, and now they’re not even talking about his illness?? jfc. which leads to Dembe being an agent, so they’d have a substitute for Liz’s role with the FBI and Red, and Dembe is really the only available person for that - but I just can’t suspend disbelief about him getting to join the FBI. with Red, in a fictional context I can buy the arrangement they have, and the logic in letting one criminal walk free to catch hundreds of others, potentially save thousands of lives. and that they looked through their fingers about a lot of things Liz did, because of the fact that she already was an established agent, and her connection to Red and how it affected the task force. but for Dembe, after everything, to be accepted as an agent? and for everyone but Ressler to immediately trust he isn’t a double agent for Red? come the fuck on. it’s laughable. I get that most other people don’t know about his background, and that Harold could probably pull some strings and get him accepted into the academy, “I know this guy personally, he’s great” etc., but. Red has always had a selfish reason for the cases he given them, has been dishonest a lot, has always had ulterior motives. so for them to trust the guy who was his closest man for decades when he says he no longer works for Red, and to trust him to be an agent, to get access to all that information, etc. etc... nope.jpg

We found an episode of The Blacklist on the DVR. We didn't even realize it was back on. Then we turn it on, and I'm immediately confused. Par for the course with this show.
