The Blacklist rewatch, Tom's death and bad motherhood representation
I don't care that most Blacklist fans didn't like Tom, that they hated that Liz took him back instead of dating boring Ressler or old Reddington, I'll always be thankful that he stayed for 4 seasons and a half, and very bitter that he was killed off while he was with Reddington the only true GREY characters of the show, and actually brought something.
I saw someone say the show really turned bad after he died and I'm not far from agreeing.
And I for one think he got a redemption too easily, and that Liz looked very naive believing him after he lied to her about his true identity and his presence in her life since the beginning...
But at the end of the day, there was something very... irresistible.... about this man who was 200% dedicated to this woman and his child, who genuinely wanted to lead a peaceful life with them and who became feral if anyone touched Liz.
Tumblr media
And I hadn't realized before, but in the car that brought him and Liz at the hospital, Liz thought that Tom would make it and she would die.... and he just begged her to stay with him, because he couldn't live without her. And then she closed her eyes and he thought her dead. That's when he lost the will to live and died at the hospital, while HE WAS SUPPOSED TO MAKE IT! And I'm supposed to be ok? Duh.
Tumblr media
What I can't, WON'T accept is that Liz just abandoned her daughter for months to live alone in the woods and mourn Tom there. I'm sorry but no mother in her right mind would leave a one year old baby she couldn't t see for 10 months under the care of a woman who's..... A fucking criminal no less?! Tom's mother, who wasn't even his mom for 30 years and who had never seen the baby before! Only a man could have put this shit out of his ass. At least she could have asked Harold Cooper, who she said was the closest to a father she ever had...
Or no, she should just have never abandoned her daughter at all. The excuses "I'm too angry", it's bs. What's sadder is that it's only the first of a long list of bad choices that Liz did with her daughter. And just like Liz was better off without her deadbeat mother Katarina, Agnes was way safer without Liz. I just can't understand how the writers thought it was a good idea to write Liz this way...
In my opinion, Agnes was a mistake. A BIG one. Once she was born it was clear that the writers had no idea what to do with this baby, and as a result she was basically absent all the time because her parents were too busy doing.... anything else than parents are supposed to be doing! It's a really shame that they gave this "bad mother" angle to Liz, because without that, I LOVED "Darth Lizzie". I loved that she turned dark at last, that she stopped being always nice and pretty and boring, with her weird mood regarding Reddington that changed all the time, and made her very inconsistent as a character.
I was like, "let her do bad things, yeah!! but... the kid?"

There’s a moment where your heart skips a beat. You inhale and feel your ribs against your skin. You can’t scream, nothing leaves your lips. Just utter silence. And in this silence, you realize you’ve lost everything. Even yourself.

so I wrote a new fic...
Title: There's No Place Like Home
Relation(ships): Elizabeth Keen & Raymond Reddington, Elizabeth Keen & Donald Ressler & Samar Navabi & Aram Mojtabai, Elizabeth Keen/ Tom Keen
Rating: Teen +
Summary: She had been in the system her entire life and expected to remain there until she aged out. That's why she was sent to the Coopers' foster home for troubled children. So you can imagine her surprise when she is randomly adopted one day by a mysterious man who has answers so questions Liz didn't even know she had. Oh, and she still has high school bullshit to deal with.
aka, the task force is a foster family and liz gets adopted by red

thoughts on The Blacklist s15 part one. first about Liz. in a lot of cases it can be interesting when the, or one of the, main characters leaves a show. it shakes things up, can give a new dynamic to everything. but in this case I don’t think it works. the show was so based on Liz and Red’s relationship from ep 1, and without her, something is just fundamentally missing. I wish shows were just allowed to end when they fucking should instead of running on forever just because they still bring in money. when she wanted to leave, the show should have ended. and to find out this isn’t even the last season? uuuugh. also, Red was supposed to be dying just last season, and now they’re not even talking about his illness?? jfc. which leads to Dembe being an agent, so they’d have a substitute for Liz’s role with the FBI and Red, and Dembe is really the only available person for that - but I just can’t suspend disbelief about him getting to join the FBI. with Red, in a fictional context I can buy the arrangement they have, and the logic in letting one criminal walk free to catch hundreds of others, potentially save thousands of lives. and that they looked through their fingers about a lot of things Liz did, because of the fact that she already was an established agent, and her connection to Red and how it affected the task force. but for Dembe, after everything, to be accepted as an agent? and for everyone but Ressler to immediately trust he isn’t a double agent for Red? come the fuck on. it’s laughable. I get that most other people don’t know about his background, and that Harold could probably pull some strings and get him accepted into the academy, “I know this guy personally, he’s great” etc., but. Red has always had a selfish reason for the cases he given them, has been dishonest a lot, has always had ulterior motives. so for them to trust the guy who was his closest man for decades when he says he no longer works for Red, and to trust him to be an agent, to get access to all that information, etc. etc... nope.jpg

Did you watch the blacklist finale? What did you think of it?
I actually haven't seen it- I stopped watching the show just after Liz died because the entire show was about her and her past and the dynamic between her and Red so once that was gone I didn't feel the show wasn't really worth watching but I have heard and read bits about the ending and it sounds interesting but I think the writers tried to make the show a bit too complex and it didn't have as good an ending because of that. I think season 8 should have explained more things and then the show should have ended there but I know other people think differently and that's fine too :)

rewatching the blacklist from the beginning & the thing that gets me is just how often Liz and Ressler… stare at each other??? like even in the early days when Liz was “happily married” and Ressler quite obviously didn’t trust her — they were always still just looking at each other, observing one another, gauging each other’s reactions to anything and everything. so like, of course Ressler knows immediately when something’s up with Liz’s marriage and of course Liz knows something must be really wrong when Ressler is late to work and has poor reaction time in the field… because they’re always looking at each other!!!
like there is a ridiculous number of throwaway shots of them watching each other in debriefings when neither of them even have any dialogue and aren’t even the focal point of a particular shot. and look, my shipper heart has been here since romeo, the access code is romeo but even I didn’t realize how blatant all the staring was. and now I’m so curious about if that was a director-level decision or if it was a diego/megan decision, because watching it with the benefit of hindsight on how their story ends just makes the evolution of their relationship so much richer.
